The design philosophy for Teachers.Net tools begins with the assumption that every user has (at least) three distinct "spheres" of interest: their grade level, their state, and their principle subject area. In previous tips this month we pointed out tools for teachers by state, by grade level, and tonight we complete the triad, with a discussion of our tools for teachers by subject area.

Subject Area Chatboards
The core support tool on Teachers.Net is our chatboards.  Thousands of discussions flow through them every day, and a great number of these discussions are related to subject areas.  All of the core subjects in the standard curriculum are represented  - math and science, language arts, music, social studies, and more.  Here is a complete listing of the chatboards by subject area:

Mailrings for Every Subject
In designing the site, we've create companion mailrings to complement each of our subject area chatboards.  As discussed in the June 2 tip, mailrings are support group discussions that come to you by email.  Subscribing and participating are very easy, see our Mailrings page for complete details.

Live Meetings
Finally, our subject area chatboards and mailrings feature live chats - specially reserved meeting times for the teachers in these peer support groups.  If you haven't been to a live teacher meeting on Teachers.Net, you don't know what you're missing.  Check out our complete live meeting schedule, watch for chats in your areas of interest, and come out and meet your colleagues around the world.  If you don't see a meeting scheduled that you think would be popular, send Kathleen Carpenter a note and she'll try to fit it into our live chat schedule.

         Teachers.Net Live Meeting Schedule

That covers our teacher support for Subject Areas - be sure to check out the resources especially for your curriculum, and participate often.  Tell your colleagues in these subject areas as well.  And don't forget to drop in on our live meetings.  Your generous participation has helped make this project a great source of support for teachers of all types - new and seasoned, early childhood through the university, and locations around the world.

I hope to see your posts, emails, and lessons on Teachers.Net in the time ahead.  Until tomorrow....
