Jo - Hi wizzle wolf The pile of stuff keps growing!
wizzlewolf - Well I don't know if that is good or bad (???)
Jo - It looks like Tam has a good grasp on what is in the offering
wizzlewolf - So how is life for you?
Jo - Great the osprey are fishing and I am thinking about putting the loom together.
wizzlewolf - Fishing????
Jo - I have a small lake in the back.. they do a dive and pick up number with the fish
wizzlewolf - If more people don't come to chat tonight, I am going to give up this chat stuff.
Jo - I agree, Jag is on!
wizzlewolf - Oh I watch TV while I am chatting. I am watching American Idol.
wizzlewolf - It is just I feel like an idiot promoting the chat and then nobody shows up.
Jo - I get boos and his from myhusband for the "real " llfe stuff but it's great escape
Jo - No we had great response do far maybe it is the FCAT stuff
wizzlewolf - Oh I don't think so. We had FCAT at my school and my kids still showed up to art. (Do you think the teachers want to give up their planning time?)
Jo - How are your kids about handling other kids art work, ceramics in particular
wizzlewolf - What do you mean "handling other kids art work"? I don't understand.
Jo - There have been times when art wrok has been broken even with a not touch rule
Jo - Have I lost you?
wizzlewolf - Oh I never leave anything out (ceramics) for kids to touch. It goes from the clay room directly to their bags to go home.
wizzlewolf - A few years ago, I couldn't hang anything up on the bulletin boards because me kids would tear it down. They are being good this year.
Jo - . Are you are to get anykind of art history into plans?
wizzlewolf - Plus they know if they tear up art, I will hunt them down.
Jo - I was definitly into the hunt doen mode when I taught
wizzlewolf - It depends on the year. Right now, ALL of my kids are so, so low. I just touch on art history. Some years we have higher level kids.
Jo - I have to get a bigger bar for typing in responses
wizzlewolf - Jo, since nobody else showed up, I am going to leave now. I am so tired and the only reason I logged on was because I wanted to support the chat. Nobody else cares, so I don't either now. Bye bye
Jo - For a number of years I did a "Who is this" and put up a large illustration in the hall with clues first kid to guess got a soft drinl or set of stickers
Jo - Wizzle take care we do care
Jo - Artie what is new in your world.
Artie - Hi Jo, I just logged on! :>
Jo - Ok, what is your favorite lesson?
Artie - Well, its been very busy at school...how about you?
Artie - I have just started 2 art history units 4th and 5th grades...they are loving them!
Jo - I've retired after 30 years I am just enjoying the quiet
Jo - Great my favorite group of kids what are you doing with the 5th graders
Artie - I am getting revved up before my retirement, I guess!
Paint - We don't even have an art teacher at our elementary school.
Jo - Paint.. yikes how come/
Paint - budget cuts...arts are the first to go. We do have it at the Middle School and High School. I am the only art teacher at the high school. - Ceramics? No kiln. Have to use oven bake clay.
Paint - Retirement? ha, ha. I've just gotten started. - put in 3-1/2 years...and 50 yrs old. *smile*
Artie - I'm just finishing ceramics with High School, and starting with Jr. Hig...
Paint - I don't know how you jump from one school to another. I teach all day at the high school.
Jo - I know I always held my breath at the end of the year to see what class enrollment was going to be. Are there any commerical ceramic places around you could work a deal with? Have them adopt a class ?
Jo - I am always amazed at the number of schools that do the one day here one day there are drag a cart around.
Artie - I do what I do because I like it most of the time...k - 12 is quite a span in a week!
Paint - Actually, my college professor donated an old kiln. I have it in my shop at home. I have to check it out to see if it works. If it does, I will have to see if they will set it up. They have already said they would have to build an out building because of fire codes.
Paint - Or maybe I could fire at home and they pay my power bill. lol
Jo - The fire codes have really come into the picture after all these years I had to take down half of my room last year because it didn't meet fire code.
Paint - Artie, so your high schoolers don't have art every day?
Paint - My classes meet every day for 90 minutes each.
Paint - gosh, this room is slow
Jo - Great at least youhave time to work on the longer projects
Artie - Yes, I meet with H.S. everyday, first hour, then I meet with 1 of 5 Jr. high everyday, the rest have art once a week...
Jo - Yes we seem to be the only ones on and my typing is terrible.
Paint - So there is only one art class at the high school, Artie?
Artie - I mean 2x a week, k - 5...sorry about that
Artie - I teach art 1 one year, art 2 the next year...I tried combining, art 1 and 2 and then 3 and 4, but it was tooooooo much...
Jo - Och.. to many kids
Paint - I won't even breathe this plan to my school. Each year I teach two Art I classes, an Art II class, any Art III students (which are few) meet with my Art II. I teach graphic design and am yearbook advisor.
Artie - Talk about Ouch...my Jr. High classes are 30 - 32 everyday, and they only meet once a week....hummmm,I'm overwhelmed this year!
Paint - We are on block schedule. We change out classes each semester.
Paint - I had 29 and 30 in my Art I classes last semester. Now I have 13 in Art II, one in Art III, 21 in Graphic Design, and 23 on Yearbook staff.
Jo - Adminstration and teaches seem to thinlk we can handle anything.
Artie - I have to go...I hope to chat with you all again!
Paint - Jo, did you say you were retired?
Jo - Yes at 30 I had enough
Paint - What age group did you teach?
Jo - Hi "B'
Paint - hi Bubbadoo
bubbadoo - hi Paint
Jo - I taught the 4 th through 12 range. I was a military wife and taught in Dept of Defense Schools
bubbadoo - My neices and nephews call me bubbadoo
bubbadoo - I'm new at this.
Jo - B that works
Paint - do you teach art, B?
Jo - B I think we are all new at this
bubbadoo - Yes. Iteach elem. in sc
Paint - I've been doing the Teachernet chats for a good while...mainly in Room 1.
bubbadoo - working on n boards
Paint - I teach high school in Georgia
Jo - Ok what goes on the room 1 I'm new at this
Jo - Ok where in Georgia
Paint - Room 1 is all different kinds of teachers that just come and go and chat about all kinds of things. They can be quite silly.
bubbadoo - any of yall Nationally board certified?
Paint - Room 1 is not a set meeting. Is is just a general get-together room.
Paint - I am in the southwest corner of the state. - No, I am not Nationally certified and probably won't ever be.
Jo - B I've been around to long but I think wizzewolf is
Jo - Pain I taught in Valdosta for a number of years I swear the world keeps shrinking
Paint - Jo, my youngest daughter lives in Valdosta.
bubbadoo - who is wizzlewolf?
Paint - It takes me about 2 hours to drive there.
Jo - Paint the world is getting smaller yet
Paint - Wizzlewolf is another art teacher. I think she (or is it he?) started this idea of an art teacher chat meeting.
bubbadoo - moving on. enjoyed waching the action.
Jo - B.. you will find her on the art and craft board She teachers a sepecial ed type of class I suspect she is good at it.
Paint - If you ever visit the chatboards, you will see her comment on things quite often.
bubbadoo - thanks for the info before I logged off.
Paint - Jo, was it hard to move around so much in the military and change schools?
Paint - Was there a set curriculum across the military, or did it change from base to base?
Jo - No loved it Had just incredible expeiences.. Africa Turkey Europe in general and lots of money to teach with
Jo - No had a set curriculum but could do as I pleased
Paint - I guess you never knew what supplies were present and what you would have to order in.
Paint - When I started teaching 3-1/2 yrs ago, they already had a textbook being used. I am the only art teacher, so I can organize my classes any way I wish. I have a limited budget, though.
Jo - Again spoiled always had supp;ies and if I didn't I could go the the military side and ask or go out on the economy
Paint - Gosh, I better say 3-3/4. We have 9-weeks exams in a week. Half of the semester over with already!!
Jo - When I tasught stae side I did a lot of dumpster diving for materials. One of my favorite place wa the sand pile at local pit. However I had to fight off a large racoon who thought it belonged to him!
Paint - lol. What did you find in the dumpsters?
Jo - Paper materials, wood and some raw clay paint
Paint - I've thought about putting an article in the paper asking for old fabric, yarn and wood.
Paint - My kids love to do wood burning projects.
Paint - explain raw clay paint.
Jo - Why not stick up a notice on some of the boards at the big markets,, also contact any of the local craft guild..weavers especially
Jo - Needed a comma between caly and paint,
Paint - you must think I live in a city. lol. There are no big markets, and definately no craft guilds.
Paint - oh, I thought you had come up with an unusual paint medium
Paint - Are you an art teacher, or coming in for the next meeting?
Carrie - I lost track of time
Carrie -
Jo - Paint since you are in the home of the famous Georgia red clay any cla despoits in your area? Hi Carrie
Carrie - elementary art teacher
Paint - Plenty of red clay.
Paint - high school art, Carrie
Carrie - I give u a lot of credit...
Paint - why, Carrie? I give YOU a lot of credit. lol. I think all of us are suited for different age groups. I love my classes.
Jo - Paint have you tried hitting up any of the suppliers
Carrie - That is very true
Paint - No. You mean the mail order art people?
Jo - Paint no goin directly to the ones who dig the stuff up!
Paint - We are about to be invaded by the EC people. Carrie, you might like to stay, since they are elementary teachers.
Paint - Jo, I don't have a kiln, so I don't look for clay suppliers. I will when I ever get set up to fire clay.
Paint - Well, I think the art people's time is up. I think I will logoff.
Jo - Ok I am right behind you Jo
Carrie - I will talk to all of you next week!
