Tam - that was years ago and we still laugh about that one
Carrie - oh no!
Tam - Hi Artie
soosweet - hello
Carrie - Well u are always welcome to come to my art room when you move here
Tam - the whole troup had to walk with their eyes covered until theh poor troup leader could get them out of there! lol
Carrie - experience a day
Tam - wow, thanks carrie
Tam - I might have to take you up on that. It looks like you do a lot of great projects
Carrie -

Carrie - I love to see what everyone is doing!
Tam - lol! I understand
soosweet - I want the first graders to use it. and do a presentation

Jo - Tam, how is your take on the art ed doing
Tam - I took my Praxis II Saturday
Tam - I think I aced it
Carrie - How did that go?
Jo - What does that entail? Tam
Tam - I'm moving back to NJ in May and I'm looking into grad schools
Carrie - ceramics ?s
Tam - there were a lot of ceramics questions
Carrie - I remember that
Jo - Interesting like what?
Tam - more questions about specific artists and art periods than I expected
Tam - for instance
Carrie - yes and more modern artists than old masters
Tam - there were multiple choice questions about what Picasso's inspiration for Les Madmoiselles was
Tam - yep
Tam - in fact, those were the few questions I had to totally guess on.
Jo - IWhen I was coming through I onlr had to worry about a very generalized exam
Tam - It was pretty tough, though I took a lot of studio and history classes in college so I felt prepaired
Tam - it was also at 7:30 in the morning on Saturday
Tam - sort of an endurance test too
Jo - When I taught high school I had to bring the art history in under cover all kind of different crafts
Tam - what sort of projects did you do?
Tam - Carrie, I saw a bunch of your classes' projects online
Tam - I liked your cubist pictures
Tam -
Jo - For Rodan found light weight cinder block the kids could sculpt, impressionist were science lessons of defused light with deffferent lenses and valcanic eruptions!

Tam - the stickers idea, I mean
Jo - Yes Carrie what's involved?
Carrie - Oh....the 2nd graders just finished up their Pop Art project
Carrie - and I give them an evaluation sheet that is very open ended
Carrie - Like What is the funniest or craziest thing about Warhol's art?
Carrie - If he was still alive, what subject would he print next?
Carrie - I get a lot of Spongebob answers for that one
Tam - wow, that's pretty in-depth for 2nd graders
Carrie - I just finished checking them and I created POP-TASTIC stickers on Word
Tam - that's great
Jo - Carrie good for you using Warhol with second grader keep those expectations up
Carrie - to put on their papers
Carrie - The second graders love him!
Tam - neat idea!
Carrie - They love his wig!
Carrie - and I have an adorable Andy Warhol doll that I put in class
Jo - Carrie have you tried Chagall (sp)?
Carrie - the kids love having Andy in class
Carrie - no I haven't
Carrie - Here are the artists I talk about
Tam - they make a Warhol doll? I didn't know that. I'm sure that makes him more interesting
Tam - they should make a Dali doll too

Carrie - so I rewrote the entire art curriculum for grades 1-5
Carrie - I never knew there was a Dali dolll!
Tam - how do you incorporthat must have been tough since you were such a new teacher
Carrie - I will definitely have to find one!
Tam - sorry, I spazed out there
Carrie - got some ideas from books and then I also had some artists that I love like Haring
Carrie - and just came up with an idea
Tam - Haring is great for kids
Carrie - sometimes it worked , sometimes it didn't
Tam - such fun compositions, they must love your class
Tam - I don't think there is a Dali doll...I was just imagining what it might look like
Jo - Carrie what about a parent who is craft oriented.. I had a parent design several character figures for the classroom. The kids favorite of course was a "plague rat" we were doing the middle ages.
Tam - which projects didn't work so well?
Carrie - oops....I must have read it wrong@
Tam - how was the plague rat made?
Carrie - well sometimes u do a project one way and decide to do something a little different the next time
Tam - oic
Jo - Carrie have you seen the series Scholastic has on the "great artist?"
Carrie - not that I know of
Jo - Tam , plague rat was soft sock with pointed nose and ears whiskers
Carrie - what is the title?
Tam - lol sounds like a fun project
Jo - Carrie,I'll have to look them up I may have a couple left, you vcould have
Carrie - that sounds great!
Carrie - Where do u work?
Jo - Another artist type thing was the older kids did cartoon strips about their artist
Jo - Carrie I was teaching in Florida but most of my time was with DODDS
Carrie - Cartooning is great with kids
Carrie - I do lessons right after the holidays on cartooning with grades 2-5
Carrie - Actually next Wed. we have a color blocking artist for Disney coming in to show the kids in 5th grade how a cartoon is made
Tam - Carrie, do the kids pick their subjects?
Carrie - He is a neighbor of one of the 5th grade girls and he volunteered to come in and talk to them
Carrie - Tam, what do you mean pick their subjects?
Jo - I loved having artist and crafts people come in. I use to have a nn Arts Festival every year in the Spring
Tam - for the cartoons. Is there a theme for that one?
Carrie - in 2nd grade we work on animal cartooning and cartoon heads
Carrie - I use the Bruce Blitz videos as motivators
Tam - I did a fun "project" with 4 of my grade school cousins last weekend
Carrie - in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades I have videos by a cartoonist named Frank Webb and he uses letters to create characters
Tam - we made cartoon faces out of letter
Tam - letters
Carrie - that is also a motivation for their own project
Carrie - in
Jo - Kids like his stuff
Carrie - Frank Webb or Bruce Blitz?
Carrie - in 3rd grade they create their own unique character
Carrie - in 4th grade they create a cartoon of the Jersey Devil legend
Carrie - and in 5th grade they create a creature that would live in the Nowhere Zoo
Carrie - Did u know that Bruce Blitz makes school appearances?
Tam - Well guys, It's 9:00
