Just Me - This is the EC meeting. I don't know what the topic is. I'm taking a break from my homework. I'm working on student data sheets for a meeting tomorrow. We will be working on class lists for next years 1st grade
JennyBC - our staffing isn't finalized yet, we're still waiting for pink slips

JennyBC - yes it's the reality in our province.....lots of layoffs and school closures
Christa - We won't know about our staffing until 6/4 and that's only for who is remaining at our school, we don't know what is going to happen b4 sept.

SheliaB - Christa of course they will be wild! LOL They will soon be on vacation
Christa - You could look right at them and say the same thing 5x's and they acted like they didn't understand a word I said.

Just Me - It's been a zoo in my room and I'm taking both groups on an all day outdoor field trip on Thursday

Mary/PA - How close are they to their summer vacation? That usually makes them a bit crazy.
Christa - I have PK also.
Paulie - It will be good to get them outdoors then . . .
Christa - We had scheduled a trip but had to cancell too many parents didn't pay and we couldn't afford to front the money.
Mary/PA - Just Me, I hope that your area hasn't been getting all the rain like we have been getting.

Mary/PA - It just won't stop raining here

SheliaB - We have 8 days left LOL but whose counting
Paulie - It was 83 for Mother's day here in Washington state
Christa - We have 17 days left and I am counting LOL
SheliaB - Just Me how many children are you taking and WHERE may I ask
Just Me - We are going to something called the Learning Train at a local park. The county extention office from Michigan State University, local pre-school groups, etc. are leading activity groups.
SheliaB - It was a beautiful 93 here in Florida
Just Me - I'm taking 43 kids plus parents.
Paulie - but it has been warm in FL for some time It has been below freezing at night here so the 83 was wonderful
Christa - Just Me at least you'll have help with structured activities.
Mary/PA - Just Me, do you have a lot of parents? I sure hope so.

Just Me - I'm also taking extra staff because of some special ed kids

Just Me - Each group gets to do 3 activities. It should be fun. I hope the weather is nicer than today

SheliaB - Aug 2nd for teachers 6th for students this year I think...anyway it's the first week in Aug

Christa - SheliaB That is so early to start, we start 8/20, students start about a wk later, we get out June 10th

Christa - Paulie it's always hot when we start, I shower at least twice a day! LOL

Christa - Yeah rgt!!! Once in the am at home, once in the afternoon at home...LOL

SheliaB - also having training 3 days prior to the start of school this year
Just Me - We end June 14 and start last week of August
Christa - Yes we get paid also, we do mini conferences w/the parents b4 the students start.
JennyBC - so do you have professional development days throughout the year, or just at the beginning?
SheliaB - The yes absolutely WAS NOT pertaining to showers at school
JennyBC - that's nice, we don't have any paid time before the kids come

Just Me - We get pain for one day but most of us go in and work at least a week before school starts

SheliaB - I was talking about our pay. Do you have the 22 and 26 week pay plan

Christa - We have 1PD b4 students arrive at the beginning of the yr, then about 3-4 during the yr.
JennyBC - it's interesting how different the school system is in the states as compared to canada, it seems that way anyway

JennyBC - it just seems that everything is different.
Just Me - I meant paid but sometimes its a pain too! lol

Christa - We also have profession development periodically throughout the school yr. on Wed. afternoons, as our students leave on Wed. early.
JennyBC - i heard teachers the other day talking about things they recieved from the school district/parents/principals for teacher appreciation week....i've never heard of that happening here before

Christa - JennyBC--the students leave and hour and a half early every Wed. afternoon.
Just Me - We have "delayed start" every Weds. sometimes for professional development, sometimes grade level meetings

SheliaB - That would be nice. We have our meetings early in the morning or late after school

JennyBC - yes, it's been about 3 years now for me, and i totally forget what it was like to wear glasses
Christa - Me too-I had mine done about 3 yrs ago as well
JennyBC - couldn't you get that surgery done in the states?
Christa - They had just approved it here, but were not going to start doing it until Dec. that yr.
PS - and then they said paulie was already here cause i did not log off lol
Christa - So I went to Canada as I knew they had the experience and I felt comfortable with that

SheliaB - They wanted to lay off 51 teachers for the next year but somehow found the money to keep everyone..that was after causing many teachers stress as usual
Christa - we're having cuts too--but that happens every yr.

SheliaB - Oh YES, I am convenced of that. Every teacher in our school (I felt) came to me and asked me how I felt about me possibly loosing my job. I said I wasn't looking for this one when I found it and I work hard so I will always find a job! I also said that I believe the money would be found and it showed up!
BMANN - New mayor of New York seems to be anti teacher...at least I get that from the New York Post!

Aly - My last day is 6/28. I teach at a year round school

JennyBC - i taught in a one-room school for 2 years, subbed for 1 year, k-6 music last year, and grade 2 this year.....a real mixed bag

JennyBC - who knows, anyone hired sept 99 and later are getting laid off, and then hopefully re-hired, but there's no way of knowing if i'll have a job, we won't know for at least a few more weeks
