Sunny - What grades do all of you teach?
SheliaB - Pre-K this past year probably 1st this year
Sunny - I sub right now K-6, but I also taught preschool for awhile. I'm going back to be certified to teach prek and k
Paulie - I don't teach a grade -- I teach kids. . .
Sunny - Ha ha ha Paulie
Paulie - There is nothing funny about that statement
SheliaB - I have been with Pre-K but will probably be in a 1st grade class this year
Sunny - I detect a dry sense of humor.
Ronni - I teach 6, 7 & 8
Paulie - It was not meant to be funny . . . I don't teach a grade . . . and you shouldn't either . . .
Sunny - Ok, Paulie. No big deal
Just Me/Mi - I'm the biggest kid in my kdg classes
Sunny - I hear ya, Just me! That's important!
Nonnie - Hello. I'm finally home on a Tuesday night to chat. I work a second job and I took this week off.
Sunny - Good for you, Nonnie. You need to take time.
Paulie - Just me are you finished with graduation parties?
Nonnie - I'm presenting at a primary teachers conference at the U of MD this month. My topic is technology and the primary classroom. I hope I do a good job.
Just Me/Mi - I know Paulie is from WA and I'm from MI but where are the rest of you from?
Sunny - New Hampshire
Paulie - nonnie tell us more about your presentation
Nonnie - I live in MD but work in Northern VA.
SheliaB - I'm from Florida
Just Me/Mi - 19 down 2 to go but my son's party is over -- Big success!
Paulie - great, Just me
Nonnie - Well, I hope to show K-2 teachers how they can "weave" technology into their curriculum with or without a lot of technology know-how. I will focus on several software programs, KidPix, AppleWorks and Microsoft Word and a new internet site, Teaching is Easy.
Just Me/Mi - I'd like to hear about it too, Nonnie
Paulie - Can u give us the url for the internet site?
Just Me/Mi - Sounds interesting. Wish I could go.
Paulie - Do u teach any keyboarding?
Sunny - I'm having trouble w/ my computer now. I'm logging off. Night all.
SheliaB - My children REALLY liked KidPix however I am not familiar with the site TIE
Just Me/Mi - bye, Sunny Come back again
SheliaB - I have to go as well. This computer isn't working well with the ISP tonight..it is slow and won't upload properly.
PS - PS = Paulie
Just Me/Mi - bye Shelia Come again soon
PS - Just me == I did not get your email ;o(
teddy bear - I teach k & was noticing about the computer references. We try to teach keyboarding but our computer lab isn't very friendly or cooperative.
Just Me/Mi - It was all about the graduation party, Paulie. I didn't save it so I will rewrite it later and try again.
tc/wtx - Hi all ! Is there a topic or theme tonight?
PS - I wonder why it never came? I check my email daily several times
Just Me/Mi - hi, tc What topic would you like?
PS - I have sent mail for 30 days saved with aol
PS - No special topic that leaves it wide open
tc/wtx - I really just came to listen for my first time. I guess I choose Third Grade Math.
PS - What do u want to know about 3rd gr math?
tc/wtx - How long is your math class? How do you divide it up?
PS - darn, I missed teddy bear's line until she left . . .
Just Me/Mi - I haven't done 3rd grade math since I was in 3rd grade but I will give it a try
PS - 3rd gr is only gr I ahve NOT taught I would think it would depend on what you wee teaching
PS - and if it had been introduced already
PS - I liek to wrok in little groups too and soemtimes even centers for reinforcement
Melissa - teddy I teach k also
Melissa - what are you chatting about
PS - whatever u want to
Just Me/Mi - Any new ideas for kdg?
PS - everyone that has brought up a topic has also left . . . lol
PS - angela, you here?
Nonnie - I'm still compiling lessons and internet sites for my handouts. I saved some of the kids projects from this
Melissa - nope not at the moment
PS - do u have Mathcats.com?
Melissa - my k creativity is on hold
Melissa - I am onto computers - teaching for the summer
Nonnie - Is MathCats for primary kids?
Melissa - and helping with games and activites for my Nephe's fifth birthday party
isube - So what are we going to talk about tonight?
PS - I never heard of K teachers puting creativity on hold before -- thought we were always on GO
PS - isube . . . whatever u like
Melissa - actually just transfered
Melissa - wrong choice of words he,he
Nonnie - How many of you have used Kidspiration? What have you created with this software?
isube - I know I am sure on the go. I agreed to teach summer school so I am always on the go!!!:<
Just Me/Mi - What are you teaching about computers?
PS - Mathcats, com is mostly for elementary check it out Wendy Petti is always addign new things It is interactive and kids can even send in their own written math problems for her to use
Melissa - actually it is a camp and I am the computer lady
isube - What is Kidspiration? I'm always up for new ideas!!
Nonnie - I'm the tech coord for the school. Monday we are expecting 500 K-2 students for summer school!
Melissa - they are allowed to play games second half and I do a lesson the first half
PS - Heard of Kidspiration -- never used it as the school I was at did nto have computers for all rooms til last yr
Nonnie - Thanks for the MathCats site. I'm adding it to my list.
Melissa - today the older kids did fourth of july acrostic poems in microsoft word and had to find patriotic clip art from the web and paste ut ub'
Melissa - the younger kids fell in love with the virtual mr.potatohead
PS - Nonnie I love the site myself check out the tesselations part -- my favorite
PS - It must be technology night
Just Me/Mi - I'm not familiar with Kidspiration. District dropped tech people. So much to do with language and math standards that I'm not up on technology so I will listen and learn from you.
Melissa - do any of you have a good site where the kids can draw and print out there pictures
PS - so mr potatoehead is online too huh?
Nonnie - I taught first grade before I became a tech coord. I love the primary grades. My most difficult times were managing centers. Any tips?
Melissa - yep
Melissa - www.hasbropreschool.com/mrpotatohead
PS - managing centers depends on age of kids
PS - thanks for url
Melissa - etch a sketch was cool but can't print, the kidpix was the same way
Melissa - no problem
Paulie - I think if you type the http:// before the www it makes a clickable link in here and you can go bookmark it and stay in the room too
Paulie - melissa do you ever do those . . . what do u call them . . .oh yes, webquests?
Just Me/Mi - Start with just a few activities that they can do without you. As they get used to your management system add activities. Once they understand routines you can have a center where they meet with you for instruction in small groups. That works for me in Kdg.
Melissa - I thought it did it automatically
Melissa - nope do share what are they
Paulie - I had to copy and paste instead of clicking on the url
isube - That is how I do it - just me
Melissa - another thing the kids had fun with were online madlibs
Paulie - webquests are studies about a different topic using the web for part of it. You could look up stamps that depict holidays and also visit the PO site and stuff that you find that connects in a search engine. The teacher usually plans it out and the kids learn to use the internet that way and usually write a report
Paulie - online madlib????????
Melissa - got it
Melissa - you know madlibs
Melissa - wacky web tales is good too
Paulie - In K I taught everyone on rug what was to happen in centers then we rotated
Melissa - http://www.elibs.com
Nonnie - I'm back. How long does it take before your students catch on to the routine of rotating?
Melissa - http://www.eduplace.com/tales/index.html\
isube - My assistant takes a group and I take a group and we rotate through centers until we have gone through tthem all. It usually takes about a week to get through all of them.
Paulie - great clickable links thanks
Melissa - no back slash after the html
isube - It takes my kids only a couple of days.
Melissa - no problem
Paulie - lol ohoh might not work
Just Me/Mi - It depends on the group. Some kids never get it. Most kids can do it within a week or so.
Melissa - how true just me
Nonnie - Thanks for the ideas. Sometimes I have to cover a class if no sub is available.
Melissa - yep got carried away with the typing
Paulie - I bookmarked the sites the tales one looks fantastic thanks!
Paulie - It said error but I jsut erased the backslash and it worked
Melissa - tomorrow we have a field trip to a state forest
Melissa - we do a trip a week so it breaks up the week
Paulie - I hope one that is not on fire . . .
Melissa - good
Just Me/Mi - I don't have an aide. You are so lucky isube
isube - Melissa - that sounds fun. What are you studying?
Melissa - last week was the circus
isube - JM - How many students do you have on average?
Paulie - In K I had an aide and another teacher who taught the PM class I also helped her
Melissa - I have a full time assistant also
Paulie - do the kids have to pay extra for those field trips?
isube - Melissa - My summer camp and I are going to the zoo in two weeks.- it should be fun!!!
Melissa - we are just going to do some hiking and swimming in the lake
Paulie - In K I had 20
Melissa - which I am not looking forward too
Melissa - cool
Paulie - swimming? do u ahve to have certified lifeguards?
Melissa - I started with ninetten and ended up with sixteen
Paulie - isube . . .what zoo?
Melissa - I usually have about thirteen
isube - I was going to ask the same question - How safe if that to let them swim? I would be nervous!
Melissa - rumor has it that there aren't at the lake so we must be in the water
Just Me/Mi - I had 22 in AM (seemed like 42!) and 20 in PM but my contract says I can have 28 WITHOUT an aide WHAT A ZOO THAT WOULD BE! lol
Melissa - although I don't beleive that but will see tomorrrow
Paulie - Just Me did u have parents help then?
Melissa - by the end of last year i only had ten
Melissa - we have parents going too
Melissa - during the week they go to the aqua park and there are tons of life guards
isube - JM - So your class is broken up into two groups. I have my kids all day long. We went to all day kind about eight years ago. How do you like having two classes. I think that would get on my nerves having to do things twice.
Melissa - I have full day also
isube - Mell - How do you like full day?
Paulie - I t was not much fun doing it twice -- I liked the year I taught all day K best
kat - I teach 2nd grade
Paulie - we went from 8:45 to 3:00
isube - P - Why did you switch back or did you got to a different school?
kat - I used to tach k
Melissa - It is all I have ever done so it is great
Paulie - I taught 2nd one year loved that age
Melissa - I can't imagine doing it in half day
Paulie - different schools
isube - Kat - why did you switch from K?
Melissa - we are 8;30 to three
kat - This year I will have the principal/s child who is EH and another teacher's child.
Paulie - all day was in parochial school 2 sessions of half day was in public schools
Paulie - EH?
kat - Emotionally handicapped
isube - I taught K for six years and then last year went to first and now i am back in K. I think I like K better. First is so demanding!!
Melissa - that is what a lot of people say
Nonnie - I hope to chat with you next week. Have a safe July 4th everyone!
isube - Kat - talk about stressed. I bet you will do fine. How long have you been teaching?
Paulie - I started in all day K, went to first, then second all three different schools Then two years of 2 sessions half day K and then 4th gr
kat - I like K for the years I taught it, but I prefer 2nd. You can do so much with them.
Melissa - don't let it phase you kat
Paulie - u too Nonnie bye
kat - I have been teaching for over 15 years.
Melissa - I taught pre-k, was the tech coordinator, and now teach k
Paulie - I like 2nd graders too as I like to teach writing stories and stuff liek that and they have the basics down and you can really go far
kat - I just prefer 2nd best than K
Melissa - byenonnie
Just Me/Mi - I've never had all day Kdg. With the group I had in AM this year 1/2 day was long enough! lol
Paulie - I subbed short and long term -- 8 long years
Just Me/Mi - bye Nonnie Happy 4th!
kat - I am really not looking forward to having the principal's child in my class, but as everybody been telling me "just treat him like all the others."
isube - The little ones do need a lot of attention in the beginning. You know what I really enjoyed about first grade - not tyeng shoes!!!:<
Melissa - I had one of those groups too
Paulie - I did not tie shoes in K either
Melissa - it was the toughest class I had yet
Paulie - I told them they were big enough to do it themselves or they could tuck the laces in to sides of shoes
Melissa - only until January then ask a friend
isube - I try not to tie in K either but it's that or they fall all over each other!
Melissa - I like that Paulie
Paulie - they never asked more than once
Melissa - speaking of tieing, the Pre-k teacher told us something cute
Paulie - not so . . .when they tucked them in they were fine
Paulie - preschool it is ok to teach how to tie shoes -- with the rabbhit and hole and all that stuff story
isube - I did start telling them to tuck in the shoes because I wasn't about to tuch shoe laces that have been all over the bathrooms - and you guys know what is in K bathrooms!!:<
Melissa - one of her kids said the pre-k kids said the k teachers don't tie shoes because they don't want to get their pretty clothes dirty when the kids put their shoes on them
Paulie - tell us , Melissa
Melissa - he,he yep
Paulie - lol
Just Me/Mi - with untied shoes I say - Who knows how to tie? When someone raises a hand or says "I do!" I say, "Go see him/her" lol
Melissa - amazing how their minds work
Paulie - I jsut figure that is parent's job BEFORE they coem to school
Paulie - lol Just Me
isube - I agree with you Paulie. I even put it on Homework!!!
Paulie - most get the velcro ones
Melissa - yep
Paulie - ohoh we chased away the 2nd gr teacher . . .
Melissa - when we graph shoes the velcro or other usually wins
Melissa - I thought the same thing
isube - Hey, you guys...tell me what "1o1" means. I know it is a dumb question.
Melissa - laugh out loud
Just Me/Mi - Only the strong survive, Paulie!
Paulie - long as a ? is asked , it is not dumb
isube - THANKS:<
Melissa - how long have you been subbing isube
Melissa - yep
isube - I don't sub. I have taught K for six years and first for one year. Why? Do I sound like a sub?:<
Melissa - sorry because of your name
Melissa - we are all k teachers then except nonnie
Paulie - no I don't have a job this year I moved
Melissa - ok, I am sure you will find something
Paulie - hoping to get one for fall
isube - Are you planning on working Paulie?
Paulie - hope u r right
Melissa - i am looking also
Paulie - soon as I get the contract I am still looking
Just Me/Mi - Good luck to both of you
Melissa - hard to get public school job in Norther NJ
Paulie - I want 2nd gr or K -- all day
Melissa - thanks
Paulie - need more than luck Just me but thanks
Melissa - I'll teach up to fourth
Melissa - so ture paulie
Melissa - to know the right people
Paulie - I loved the curriculum for 4th but I did not like the disrespectful kids in CA school I taught them in
isube - It's not what you know but who you know.
Paulie - must be isube
Melissa - yep so true
Melissa - I was thinking about quitting my job and subbing to get an in in the public schools
Paulie - I would liek to find a job in WA again
Paulie - hated so CA
Melissa - where do you live paulie
Just Me/Mi - I've heard there is a teacher shortage coming. I hope more jobs open up soon. My oldest is studying to be a teacher and he graduates next year.
Paulie - Melissa that might work -- might not sicne I tried for 8 long years I was a popular sub but not good enough for them to get a contract I guess
Melissa - wow
Paulie - Vancouver, WA across the Columbia River from Portland OR
isube - I know why there is a teacher shortage in my district - they don't support teachers!!
Melissa - yep
Paulie - isube and where is that what state?
isube - I work in South Carolina... Now don't everyone laugh at once!!:<
Paulie - we have the biggest firework display WEST of the Mississippi on the Fort grounds on July 4th
Melissa - why would we laugh
Paulie - I lived in Charleston Heights in SC for four months
isube - I wish I could be there Paulie
Just Me/Mi - Sometimes subs are so good districts want to keep them as subs. Mine has pulled that. We lost some excellent teachers to other districts that way.
Melissa - i am off to north carolina on Sat.
Paulie - what for Melissa?
Melissa - I guess that is there reasoning
isube - because SC is one of the lowest when it comes to education
Melissa - i am visiting my cousins
Paulie - isube they do it on a barge in the Columbia River It is huge and people from Oregon coem too an all day event
Paulie - have fun Melissa
Melissa - see now little old me did not know that
isube - we just got the lottery past and they are wanting to spend it on "higher ed" and my thoughts on that are if they don't put money in the early years then they won't have anyone to go to highter ed!!!
Melissa - thanks, I am looking forward to a week off of work
Paulie - isube my son went to school in first gr for 4 months in Charleston heights and he continued int he gifted program there we moved from upstate New York
Melissa - how true
Just Me/Mi - Enjoy! Melissa
Paulie - amen isube!
Melissa - thanks
isube - Columbia is about an hour and a half from me. I'm in Charleston.
isube - I bet you are proud of him Paulie:<
Paulie - I lived in Charleston Heights back in 71 or was it 72
Paulie - He is in Navy for 14 years now very intelligent
isube - Then I won't tell you when I was born.HAHAHA Paulie
Paulie - isube I bet u are younger than my kids
isube - Paulie are you still in NY?
Paulie - heavens no after that we went to Hawaii and then Idaho and then WA and then CA and now back in WA
Paulie - and before that it was also Hawaii after s carolina and before NY was northern CA and Connecticut and Mass
Paulie - military . . . navy
isube - WOW, my husband and i would like togo to Hawaii next summer. Has anyone else been besides Paulie?
Paulie - I loved upstate NY we lived in Ballston Spa near Saratoga Springs between the AAdirondak and catskill mountaiins and got lots of snow
Paulie - I had one son born in Hawaii
Paulie - lived there one year he was born and two years later on
Just Me/Mi - Closest I've been to Hawaii is the pineapple on my countertop
Melissa - I have it is great
isube - JM - that was a good laugh:<
Melissa - he,he
Just Me/Mi - Thanks, isube
Paulie - lol Just Me
Melissa - got worst sun burn of my life
isube - I guess we kind of got off of the subject a little. I guess that was my fault.
Just Me/Mi - I have been to South Carolina. We visited friends who moved there from Michigan
Paulie - Hawaii is very expensive too I loved wednesday afternoons kids got out of school at 1:15 for teacher meetings and we went to beach year round
isube - How did you like it - JM
isube - Paulie - My school has six early outs planned this year when the kids get out at 11:50 and we get to curriculum plan and meet with parents.
Melissa - that is nice
Melissa - the kids have the day off for our conferences just twice a year
Just Me/Mi - SC was beautiful! I loved the mountains. They took us to Ashville, NC and we climbed a mountain. It was Thanksgiving weekend and flowers were blooming. Great vacation.
isube - The only problem is that we have off for these conferences and hardly any parents show up
Just Me/Mi - We have conferences once a year, the 2nd week in November. Almost every parent comes.
Paulie - that is too bad isube
Melissa - all of mine usually come als
Paulie - all my K parents came and even in first and 2nd but not all 4th come
Just Me/Mi - If we want another conference it has to be done after school
isube - I hate to do this but I guess I had better go. I hope to talk to you guys again soon. Take care. I might try and come back on in a little while to see if you guys are still here.
Melissa - it was the whole school and most showed up
Just Me/Mi - bye isube, Happy 4th of July!
Melissa - take care isube
isube - Happy 4th so everyone. Hope you stay safe.
isube - Bye!
Paulie - bye isube come again
Paulie - u too
Paulie - I will be here stay for the late chat to amke up for when I miss both
Paulie - I hate typing away and nothing appears lol
Melissa - i agree
Just Me/Mi - I can stay a while longer but I have to be up early tomorrow. My youngest has to go to the hospital for tests. He has been having a pain in his abdomin so the doctor wants to check it out.
Melissa - hope he is ok
Just Me/Mi - This has been the week for hospitals. I took my mother-iin-law for one earlier today
Paulie - Gosh I hope he will be ok
Paulie - How is she doing Just me?
Paulie - I wonder how come I did not get yoru email Just me?
Just Me/Mi - Thanks for your concern. We are having lots of medical problems lately. My brother-in-law started on Chemo last week as we were getting our oldest moved from college and setting up a graduation party for the middle one. I always tell people I don't have time to have a job in the summer but I wish it was for fun things not this.
Melissa - I hope all is ok
Paulie - amen . . . Just Me
Just Me/Mi - We have no test results yet on mother-in-law.
Paulie - what u guys doing for 4th?
Just Me/Mi - Keep them in your prayers, please.
Paulie - sure will Just me let me know . . .
Melissa - family barbecue and hopefully fireworks
Paulie - I will not go to night fireworks this year watch them on tv I guess going to son's house before they move
Paulie - but might go to the Fort celebration during the day for awhile
Paulie - hmmm my page disappeared
Just Me/Mi - Sister-in-law who didn't come to graduation party even though she is the graduate's godmother is coming for a picnic. I'm serving left-over party food and sitting quietly and watching the "fireworks" while she and my husband argue about why she didn't come to the party. lol
Just Me/Mi - Where is your son moving?
Paulie - soon as their house sells
Just Me/Mi - Where is your son moving? Out of town or new house same town?
Paulie - clsoer to his fireman job near Seattle (Port Orchard)
Paulie - out of town
Just Me/Mi - Is that far from you?
Paulie - 4 hours It doesn't matter they are too busy living in same town to visit me anyway last time is aw them was 10 days after Mother's day they went to Disneyland during Mother's day
Paulie - saw
Just Me/Mi - sorry to hear that, Paulie
Paulie - not much isube we were waiting for u
Paulie - the 2nd session of this starts in jsut a few minutes
isube - So ya'll did miss me while I was gone
Melissa - yep with bells on
Paulie - of course we missed u
Melissa - it is like at a bar come for happy hour and stay until closing
Just Me/Mi - yup
Paulie - u know about those bars huh?
isube - My husband just called and said he would be home late so I'm here for the long haul.
Paulie - great isube
Just Me/Mi - Mine found a baseball game on TV so I can stay
isube - O really hate that seven second paus that comes in all conversations.:<
Paulie - Sure got quiet in here
Paulie - 7 second?
Just Me/Mi - I'm eating crackers. Can't type.
isube - I was exagerating:<
Melissa - im with a friend and in here too
isube - What is your friend doing?
Pam - I'm keeping an eye on the kiddos and in here too.
Paulie - I talked to daughter in law in Im for the past half hr and in here too lol
Paulie - (pass the crackers)
isube - I think I might go get something to much on...I'll be back in a second.
Paulie - we can do multi-tasks
Just Me/Mi - just ate the last one - I'll go get more. lol
Paulie - power of suggestion I am cooking dinner also lol
Melissa - I think just chatting with me
isube - multi-tasking is what we do best!!
Melissa - not a teacher so not much multitasking
Melissa - yep
isube - 7 second pause
Paulie - not a teacher?
isube - everyone must be gone to get some food
Paulie - I turned the pork chops
Paulie - †
isube - yeah, what do ya mean "not a teacher"?
Melissa - my friend I am chatting with
Pam - Back...had to clean up a mess.
isube - Pauli, what do you mean with the cross?
Paulie - welcoem back Pam
Melissa - a lawyer
Paulie - that is a german umlaut smiley face not a cross
Just Me/Mi - It's been too hot to eat much lately. It was over 100 degrees with the heat index. Our garage was like an oven today. I stayed in with the air conditioning as much as possible. Now that it is late (11pm) it is cool enough to eat.
Pam - Thanks.
Paulie - If you don't see a U with two dots above it you must be on a PC
isube - Where was it 100 degrees. I think that was the temp here.
Pam - Same here. The heat is almost unbearable. Wish I had a pool.
isube - sorry, Paulie
Just Me/Mi - It looks like a cross on mine too
Paulie - I have a apt pool haven't been in it this summer
Melissa - cold front is coming eighty six on Thurs
Paulie - well I ahve an iMac so we can make these and it looks like a smiley face
Paulie - (a cross is ok)
Melissa - YEAH another mac person
Melissa - I have an imac also
isube - I see a little yellow smiliey face on Pams. How did you do that Pam?
Paulie - you can make the German umlaut on PC too with different typing characters u use alt and type three numbers on the keypad not the numbers at top but I forgot what three numbers
Just Me/Mi - I'm in Michigan. I didn't check the actual temp today but yesterday they said it was 98degress but the heat index made it feel like 105 degrees.
Paulie - isube look at the ? in the box at the left It tells u there how to do them
Pam - I just used the Semi Colon : and a ) and it made the smiley face.
isube -
isube - How cool!!!
isube - :*
Pam - I don't see a ? in a box to the left
Pam - Oops! Never mind. *L* I see it.
isube - That didn't work . Don't know what that it. HAHAHA
Paulie - I liek the dark glases one but it is not working for me today 8-)

isube - what is that?
Pam - Suppose to be me looking anxious. *L*
Melissa - cool
isube - Pam, do youknow any others?
Paulie - I accidently discovered I could do it in here can't on aol like the PC users but I love my mac
Paulie - I liek the angel one too

isube - :8)
Paulie - frozen again

Melissa - I think they are much easier
Paulie - O

isube - I bet you and Paulie have some stories
Melissa - the thirteenth
Pam - I'm 38 and just starting my teaching career. *L* My b/f keeps teasing me I won't have the stamina to keep up with the class.
Paulie - Jan 12 here
Melissa - yep lets hear it from the old timers he,he
isube - teach where are you going?
Paulie - I graduated from colelge at 40
Melissa - good for you
isube - good for you Paulie
Paulie -
Pam - Well I graduated in 95, but am just now starting t teach. I think that is why I'm so nervous. It's been a long time since I've been in school.
isube - Is this your first time teaching Pam?
Pam - Yep. Well I did substitute last year, but not as often as I would have liked, and never in a K class.
Paulie - I moved and am looking for a job again
Pam - What grade Paulie?
Paulie - want 2nd or all day K
isube - Why not first?
Paulie - I taught first one year
Paulie - had a good year
Pam - I'm 1/2 day K.
Melissa - full day
isube - Anna, are you a teacher?
Paulie - I jsut like 2nd grade best cause they have soem basics and I can teach them about writing stories and such better then
anna - do all of you teach early chilhood?
Paulie - I have tons of K resources
isube - Yes, I teach kindergarten
Paulie - is reason for thsoe two grades -- would teach almsot any
Pam - How long have you been teaching isube?
Paulie - I taught 4th gr two years ago
Just Me/Mi - I'm AM and PM kdg
anna - i taught kindergarten the last four years and now teach second grade students.
isube - this will be my eighth year. I guess I am still new at this.
Paulie - don't u lovw 2nd gr anna?
isube - why did you switch anna?
Paulie - I subbed short and long term for 8 LONG years
Pam - I will be sharing a room with another teacher who has been teaching for awhile. I'm hoping to get lots of tips
isube - how will you share a room?
Pam - How do you feel about switching anna?
Paulie - Pam are u in CA?
anna - Question: How many of you are put into a position to teach skills to your students that are not developmentally ready?
isube - ALL THE TIME!
Melissa - probably all of us
Pam - Well I'm not sure. We have one big room together. She will teach 1/2 day and I'll teach the other 1/2. I've had to stop all thinking on design and stuff like that. Until I meet her, I have no idea how it will all work.
Paulie - anna we had K state standards when i taught there K is not even mandatory in Ca we had to teach stuff I did not think developmentally right
Just Me/Mi - Are you team teaching? I did that one year - two teachers and 48 kids but we had a large room set up in centers and it worked well
Pam - Yes Paulie. Bakersfield, CA
isube - So you are teacing part time Pam?
Pam - No, I'm considered full time. I'll teach 1/2 and aide the other teacher 1/2 day.
Paulie - well usually when u teach like that you are team teachers and both teach both classes
anna - I have taught every level from K-8th grade during my 25 years. I love second and fourth grade.
Paulie - just one teacher is in charge each half day
Paulie - Pam and we also ahd an aide part time she ahd one and I ahd one
isube - I sure hope you two have the same teaching style or it will get pretty hairy in there, Pam
Pam - I'm hoping it will be a gift. Less pressure to be completely in charge the entire day.
Paulie - It works out pretty good to team teach liek that Pam
Pam - I know isube. I'm worried about that, and how space will be shared.
anna - either you get along or not. if not it can be a very long year
Paulie - It is ok to be different
Pam - I sure hope so Paulie.
Paulie - I did it two years
isube - It would be nice to have someone else to be there when talking to parents.
Paulie - no when talkihng to parents u talk to yoru own kids' parents
Pam - Well I'm pretty laid back. I think it would be a great advantage to us both, if she and I click.
isube - oh, I see
Paulie - U can share resources and have twice as many even soemtimes
Melissa - my assistant and I get along so well we are like two peas in a pod, but I have had some bad ones too
Just Me/Mi - we took turns leading the group when we did whole group activities. My partner did movement and gym, I did art and music. While one of us taught the other was the aide. During center time we each led one and the kids rotated around the room.
Pam - I've heard good stories and bad about team teaching.
isube - I could see the advantage to that.
Paulie - we only had 20 kdis each session
Pam - Sounds like a good partnership Just Me
isube - Have any of you looped up with your kids?
Paulie - but Just me that is far too many kids at once
Melissa - you are lucky
anna - i really enjoy this exchange and want to stay, but I am really tired and need some sleep. Are you on chatroom 1 at all?
Paulie - no but that would be fun to loop
Pam - Since I can't plan the classroom design and layout until we meet, does anyone have any idea what I should be doing this summer to prepare? I did get the teaching manuals we will be using.
Paulie - I find the chatroom is jsut chat not much school stuff
Pam - Looped up, isube?
isube - you said you are teaching K?
isube - Me too Paulie
Paulie - Pam is this K?
Melissa - making center stuff
Pam - anna, it was nice meeting you.
Pam - Yes Paulie.
anna - me too, but where can we go for stuff like this?
isube - Looping is where you go up with your class to the next grade level
Paulie - well read the building blocks book
Melissa - that is good especially in the summer
Paulie - Reading and writing for K
Pam - Oh! *Smacking myself in the head* '
Paulie - and collect books from yard sales
Melissa - no hitting
Just Me/Mi - we only did it for one year. She moved to another grade and they put up a divider wall cutting the room in1/2 making a square into a triangle with one of the points cut off.
isube - I would be getting some getting to know you things together. I do a student of the day where we look at a students name that day and do different things with the name and then the others draw that student and we put it in a book.
Paulie - go for stuff liek what?
Pam - I have lots of books of my own from when I was a child and collected some during my college years. I purchased Wong's book and am reading that. Do you think I should get the Builiding Block lesson plan book and the other material?
anna - i am interested in looping. Do you do it all the way through? Is is successful?
Paulie - you will still use your own things liek calendar and some bulletin baords
Pam - *LOL* Sorry Melissa.
Paulie - looping only goes for one gr
Paulie - K this year, first next K the next first after that
isube - it only works if you like the kids you had that year
Paulie - no don't get the lesson plan book because
anna - oh, that sounds neat. Makes a good two year transition
Paulie - when u check out BB at teachers net there is one made for you already
Paulie - u can print it off
Pam - I can?? Where can I get it please?
Paulie - it is some teacher's work already done for others
Paulie - u have to ahve a teacher willing to loop with you
Pam - Oh, sorry got the rest of the message late. On BB at teachers net I can just copy the entire thing.
isube - I went up with some of my kinders from the year befor last year and really enjoyed it. Couldn't stand the whole class though so didn't move with entire class.
Paulie - at the main teachers net there is a building blocks lesson plans listed and u click on there and find it
Just Me/Mi - Look for Carson-Delosa books for center games. I have parents help color and cut them out. I mount them on file folders. The kids love them.
anna - thanks everyone. will you meet again soon?
isube - great idea JM
Paulie - I printed it all out It is from teacher that has used program
Paulie - we meet each Tuesday

Paulie - I had it on low
Paulie - running back and forth
Melissa - wow an oven in your bedroom he,he
