Paulie - Hi meeha and marcie
Paulie - I was searching for a pattern for a scarecrow online but I could not find one -- do any of you know where to find one online?
meeha/ece/tx - Paulie -- I don't know for sure ... want me to go take a peek? (I just make mine using shapes!)
Paulie - I wanted it for a friend I have one that is three pages long but I could scan it for friend but I don't have copyright priviledges so don't want to get invloved that route
Barbie/K/WI - do you read The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything?
Paulie - no it is ok I just wondered if you knew
Paulie - I don't have that book Barbie but I heard it was good
Barbie/K/WI - Oh my, it is very good!
Barbie/K/WI - The kids LOVE IT!
Marcie/1/OH - Checking out some leveled readers for my lower students.
Paulie - are they free print leveled readers? or ones to buy?
meeha/ece/tx - That book is good for sequencing ... first ___ did ___, then .....
Paulie - Linda we are glad u came
Barbie/K/WI - I have a quick question about 1/2 kindergarten... we have our students for about 2 1/2 hours. With 20 minutes for gym and music and then Computer and Library 1-2 a week for 1/2 hour, how do I get everything in?!
Marcie/1/OH - Nope; ones to buy. I subscribe to readinga-z, but I am trying to find more.
Paulie - the only way to get everything in is to integrate it
Barbie/K/WI - Marcie, I just heard about that. Would that be good for kinders?
Barbie/K/WI - today, I felt like we did nothing!
Paulie - I find that printing ink costs more than if I buy the books
Marcie/1/OH - YES, well if they are somewhat readers. Check out the site--they have samples of all of the books (various levels) tha tthey offer.
Paulie - We also used centers in half day K
Marcie/1/OH - Paulie, I use the printers at my school.
Barbie/K/WI - ok, thanks Marcie
Paulie - oic well u are lucky to ahve printers at school
Paulie - but I ddi print some of the free ones
Marcie/1/OH - You don't? That stinks.. we share them (1 for every 2 teachers), but they are nice printers.
meeha/ece/tx - Barbie -- with the weather today, I think my p.m. class about went over the edge!
Barbie/K/WI - me too Marcie, I use the printers for school stuff printing
Paulie - lucky u Marcie
Keisha - Hola mi amigos
Barbie/K/WI - it is getting cooler, may rain tonight
Marcie/1/OH - So Paulie what grade are you teaching?
Paulie - Guten abend!
Keisha - Hi Paulie
Marcie/1/OH - Hola Keisha
Marcie/1/OH - Barbie, it's COLD here...
Paulie - (well, I was speaking of my last school, rememebr I moved and don't have a class yet)
jen - hi keisha!
meeha/ece/tx - Marcie, http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hollow/1213/scarecrow.html has good info for scarecrows, including links to several scarecrow units ... I bet one of them has a pattern she could use!
Barbie/K/WI - I think it was around 65
Barbie/K/WI - I think it was around 65
Keisha - hello jen, i think I know you
Paulie - thanks meeha
meeha/ece/tx - I think our high today was about 65, Barbie! Felt downright cold!
jen - i think so too..my classroom management guru, right?
Barbie/K/WI - well, yes for Texas!!!!
Marcie/1/OH - Thanks--except I didn't ask for it
Keisha - LOL, i thought so
meeha/ece/tx - Sorry, Marcie ... Paulie wanted it!
meeha/ece/tx - Barbie -- felt cold, probably because it was SO damp! (rained most of the day!)
Marcie/1/OH - Paulie, here's a good website to check out: http://www.mrsballingall.homestead.com/Scarecrows.html
Keisha - did my name give me away, lol
jen - i am making airplanes as we speak, thanks to your suggestion
jen - yes a little!
Barbie/K/WI - where about in Texas meeha?
Keisha - good for you, i am so excited for you
Barbie/K/WI - my father in law is from Batesville
meeha/ece/tx - Barbie -- near Dallas.
Paulie - thanks marcie, I will look at it
meeha/ece/tx - don't know Batesville. (TX is so big!!!)
jen - man, wish me luck...this is a tough group!
Paulie - airplanes?
Paulie - hi cf
meeha/ece/tx - Jen -- your year off to a rough start?
Marcie/1/OH - Well I am STARVED... gonna go pop some popcorn and veg in front of the TVTTYL, okay?
cf - Hi, Is tonight's topic about 4-blocks?
Keisha - Having a discipline plan weeds out the followeres
Paulie - I already ate my popcorn
meeha/ece/tx - ttfbn, Marcie ... take care.
jen - meeha, that is an understatement!
Barbie/K/WI - ok, everyone we are going to the fire station tomorrow. I have 2 girls with nits in their hair ( we don't have a no nit policy) Do I take them in my group? It wouldn't be right to give them to an unsuspecting parent would it?
Paulie - nope tonight is primary chat
meeha/ece/tx - ...... well, ttfn, anyhow!
Keisha - ooohhh, Barbie
jen - I thought under Naeyc, I couldn't have a plan like that...
cf - Oops. Guess I'd better learn to read!
meeha/ece/tx - Barabie -- I don't take kiddos with nits ANYWHERE but to the clinic!
Vic - I think that I would keep them in your group Barbie.
Paulie - why can't the nurse send them home?
Paulie - I want to know why you don't have a policy about nits?
Barbie/K/WI - our school policy is if they don't have live lice they stay in school!
Vic - Unless they are really bad, like falling out of their hair, we can't send them home either anymore.
Barbie/K/WI - It is a terrible policy!
meeha/ece/tx - Jen -- you really have to have a set of "behavioral expectations", along with "consequences" (((both positive and negative))) in any setting!
Paulie - soon as a child in my class got them, everyoen was notified to check their kids out
Paulie - and the child was sent home
Vic - We don't even notify other parents any longer. Due to confidentiality.
Linda - Our kids are not to be in school unless they are nit free
meeha/ece/tx - but, then, soon every kiddo on campus will be out with LICE, as well as the staff!!!!!
Barbie/K/WI - ours too Paulie most parents don't understand that once they have lice, the whole family, house and car... need to be treated and cleaned
Keisha - I know plenty who do, jen, go for it
Keisha - I know plenty who do, jen, go for it
Paulie - could not come back until the nurse checked them after they said they used the shampoo and washed their bedding
Paulie - were checked for a week following
Barbie/K/WI - the same kids keep getting them
jen - oh I knoe meeha, I just thought a behavior mod ((sticker chart)) was a naeyc no no
Paulie - hi ally
Vic - yep, that is true here too Barbie
jen - Beleive me I have no alternative keisha
Paulie - I never thought about the car lol
meeha/ece/tx - Barbie -- public school? Does the district have a "parent educator" who can go into the home to help the mother clean correctly? It can be a REALLY challenging job!
Linda - Barbie, I was born and raised in Delavan. I went to the high school there.
Paulie - why just help the mother? geeze how about helping the whole family
Barbie/K/WI - I think that would be good meeha, but no
meeha/ece/tx - I don't know, jen ... don't use a chart ... pass out stickers intermittently when all (or most) are on task ... occasionally do tattoos ... rarely m&m's or jelly beans!
Barbie/K/WI - well, ok, didn't mean to get you all on a touchy subject! I will keep the girls in my group and I will be wearing a shower cap tomorrow!!!! lol
Paulie - (I don't believe just the mother should clean in a home)
Paulie - lol
Keisha - depends on incentives, too me
Paulie - I want to see you in that shower cap!
Barbie/K/WI - lol
Paulie - do the lice ahve to pay admission on field trips?
Keisha - our p wants us to give a weekly treat , my typing with one hand is not working
Barbie/K/WI - now that is good Paulie!
Paulie - why are u typing with one hand?
Paulie - why a treat every week?
Keisha - rofl paulie
Paulie -
meeha/ece/tx - Paulie ... help the mother learn HOW to clean the house when a child has lice ... it is REALLY a much bigger job than one thinks at first glance!
Keisha - 3 year old in other one
Keisha - 3 year old in other one
Paulie - meeha I know I understand the procedure for cleaning but why just the MOTHER?????? why not the whole family?
Paulie - o
Barbie/K/WI - It is a huge job! They think treating the kids hair and sending them to bed with the old sheets and blankets is fine!
jen - I am having a problem with tantrums and kids telling me no...
Barbie/K/WI - oh my jen!
Barbie/K/WI - I had one tell me last year "you're not the boss of me!"
meeha/ece/tx - well ... generally the little ones I deal with aren't able to assist in any meaningful way ... but it isn't just the mother ... the family in general! (My mother ... and I ... are the "chiefs" where cleaning is concerned!)
Paulie - tell the "NO" kids that you are there to teach them a new word and everytime they want to say NO , say yes instead
Keisha - ok, i'm free
jen - I get, I don't like bad teachers...and i am not your friend...
Paulie - well I think fathers can help too
jen - usually the no is followed by screaming...
Paulie - bad teachers?
Barbie/K/WI - where are you jen?
Paulie - what did you do with that 3 year old?
Paulie - lol
meeha/ece/tx - Jen -- "NO" works two ways! but what I tell my kiddos is "NO" is not an option in my classroom.
Barbie/K/WI - oh, they are 3...
jen - yes, the child says, I don't like bad teachers!
Keisha - I don't do tantrums, I have a little boy who thinks that if he behaves ( and I use that loosely) one day out of 5 he is doing great
Paulie - the one hanging on her other hand was three
meeha/ece/tx - A trick I've learned is to direct rather than ask, too! (I don't say "are you ready to _____", I say "Now it is time to _____" -- it has made a big difference!)
Barbie/K/WI - oh
Keisha - laid her down, she is the baby of three, I admit it she is spoiled
Paulie - who told that child there were BAD teachers?
Paulie - good plan meeha
jen - I tried that today meeha...we've been really emphasizinh making the right choice and praise for my listeners...but when I give a sticker to my listeners--I have some say so, I don't want a sticker anyway
jen - who knows paulie!
Barbie/K/WI - you have some tough little cookies jen!
Paulie - well they "have to" say that to make themselves feel better about not getting one
Keisha - I don't think there is a single plan for every child, you have to do what works for you
jen - you don't know the half barbie...I got hit and pinched yesterday
Keisha - and your class
jen - I agree paulie, but this particular child has a mean streak
Paulie - jen is this preschool or K? or what?
Barbie/K/WI - remind me... they are how old again?
meeha/ece/tx - Jen -- When I have two or three not quite on-task, I'll pull out the stickers and pass them out. Then, as the others migrate toward where they are supposed to be (and begin to follow instructions) I provide them with a sticker. Sometimes acknowledging the effort ... immediately upon the effort ... is the most effective tool you'll have in your hand!

Paulie - Is this board not working again?
Vic - I wish that hit and pinched is all that I have to deal with. I am trained in Mandt Restraint and I have been ordered to not restrain this year.
meeha/ece/tx - I hope some of the others come back and try again soon!
milymo/oh/k - I'll bet it was a server problem.
meeha/ece/tx - Glad you came back! How has your week been going?
milymo/oh/k - Me too!
milymo/oh/k - It's been good. Each week gets a little better - I just moved back to K, after 3 years in 2nd.
milymo/oh/k - How about your week?
meeha/ece/tx - I'm going to run refill my iced tea ... brb! (Want anything? What do you want to chat about tonite?) My week's been going quite nicely, thanks!
milymo/oh/k - Don't need anything- just finished a glass of milk.
meeha/ece/tx - I"m back!
milymo/oh/k - Not sure what to chat about. Can't think of anything specific.
meeha/ece/tx - I should drink more milk!
meeha/ece/tx - What kinds of "fun" themes are you doing now and in the near future?
milymo/oh/k - I did apples last week - Bats and Bedtime this week - and probably careers and pumpkins the next couple weeks.
meeha/ece/tx - last week and this week we're doing "FARM" ... next two weeks is "FAMILIES" ... then a week of "FALL FUN" (a.k.a. "Hallowe'en"!)
meeha/ece/tx - My assistants and I sat down and planned themes through the entire school year ... complete with stories/books and nursery rhymes ...before the school year started! Sure has made planning easier!
milymo/oh/k - I like doing bats, because it's Halloweeny, but based on facts.
milymo/oh/k - I found a great web site, where a great K teacher has written up her whole year like that.
milymo/oh/k - I'm still kind of meandering back and forth between Letter of the Week and Building Blocks.
meeha/ece/tx - (Mind you, it doesn't mean we won't change our plans as the year gets longer, but it feels good to be that much ahead of the game at this point!)
meeha/ece/tx - well ... we're kind of doing "letter of the week" ... to correlate with our units ... but really our "pre-literacy program" (in my classroom, anyhow) is pretty much eclectic!
milymo/oh/k - I would have felt ahead if I were doing 2nd again. Now that my grade was switched it will take a year or so. Longer if they switch my grade again!
meeha/ece/tx - THis is my SIXTH year in my present assignment! School building has changed once, but the assignment is the same!
milymo/oh/k - We will be moving to a new school building next year.
meeha/ece/tx - I"ll see you next Tuesday, Paulie ... bedtime for me!
meeha/ece/tx - nice talking to you both.
milymo/oh/k - Goodnight meeha!
