Kathleen - Chat tonight with Marjan Glavac, author of The Busy Educator's Guide to the WWW
Kathleen - So, any new projects shaping up in your classroom this Fall/Winter?
Marjan - Kathleen, just finishing up one I've been working on since September. That's the Junior Summit 98 from MIT. 3000 students worldwide have been discussing topics and solutions to problems and challenges to kids worldwide.
Kathleen - Marjan, did you get any press coverage for that project?
Marjan - I'm a moderator for one of the topics. Next week, 100 of them will meet at MIT. The web site for more info is http://www.jrsummit.net/
Kathleen - Marjan, you are moderating virtually/
Marjan - Kathleen, Yep...a virtual moderator for a virtual world!
Marjan - MIT being MIT, with profs such as Negroponte and Seymour Papert and others have all kinds of contacts. You should see something on TIME/CNN I imagine.
Kathleen - What topic is yours?
Marjan - My topic was the use of computers and other technologies to improve education worldwide.
Kathleen - Marjan, would you post on our main chatboard about the MIT project and your involvement? Your fans here at Teachers.Net would benefit from the info
Marjan - Kathleen, okay, I'll post the web site and other information as it comes to me.
Kathleen - Great, thank you, Marjan>
Mary K&1 - Marjan, can you tell more about this meeting at MIT?
Marjan - Mary, on November 21, the kids will be presenting their ideas. These kids are being flown in from all around the world and being put up at MIT for the whole week. Should be very interesting to see what they all have to say.
Mary K&1 - What age span are the kids?
Marjan - Mary, the kids ranged in ages from 11-16.
Mary K&1 - What a wonderful experience for them!
Marjan - Mary, my greatest regret is that I wasn't able to join them at MIT. My very good friend is also a moderator. She's going down as a chaperone for the kids. Should be a very exciting week.
Mary K&1 - That's too bad :( Will there be another opportunity?
Kathleen - exciting might not be the word...;-)
Marjan - Kathleen, these kids are just incredible. The thoughts and discussions online were a real inspiration to me (especially after some long long days with my grade 7/8 students)
Marjan - And the corporate sector helped out by giving computers and Internet connections to a nubmer of African countries that had nothing.
Marjan - Mary, I hope there will be another opportunity. I'd love to tour MIT's Media Lab.
Kathleen - Marjan, I'll bet you could arrange that if you are going to be in the area. Contact the school's public affairs office and let them know about your book, and your interest. Mention your speaking tours ;-)
Mary K&1 - Marjan, a former student of mine is in his 4th year at MIT ... he was into computers all his life
Mary K&1 - You can't start too soon
Marjan - Mary, two friends of mine from the University of Toronto went there to teach. One of them was into computers all his life as well. I found out that his research was on ARPANET, the project that made the Internet possible.
meeha/ece/tx - I would really like to know more about using computers to enhance the learning that takes place in my classroom -- special needs early childhood! The kids will work at the computers for fairly long time periods, though I'm not sure they're often learning as much about language (our main thrust) as I would like!
Kathleen - meeha, I'm not convinced that computer interaction is all that beneficial for kids like yours (needs and age) except as a supplementary, choice, that of course allows them to develop a familiarity with the tool.
Marjan - Meeha, you may want to go to this site: http://www.rit.edu/~easi It's a site that deals with persons with disabilities. Great profs run the site.
Marjan - Meeha, They have a great deal of experience with your situation and can give you leads to resources as well.
Mary K&1 - My hearing impared child is a real computer pro! I think that it gives her a another way to express herself
meeha/ece/tx - i'll check it out this weekend!
Marjan - Meeha, tell them Marjan sent you!
meeha/ece/tx - will do!
Marjan - Kathleen, I need an agent. Are you available :-)
Kathleen - LOL! grease my palm ;-)
Marjan - Kathleen, funny you should mention Palm. I've got a PalmPilot and a friend of mine sent me a book and CD on the Palm Pilot!
Mary K&1 - Marjan, is your book available in that format?
Kathleen - PalmPilot?
Marjan - November 16-22 is National Children's Book Week. November 19 is the Gettysburg Address Anniversary. Thanksgiving is on the 27 and Mark Twain's birthday is on November 30. For a great site with links to all of these events: http://home.earthlink.net/~mediadesigns/Calendar.html
Marjan - Mary, I did a number of notes on it. I can download from my home computer text files to it.
Mary K&1 - Do you find it to be a tool that we all will need soon?
Marjan - Kathleen, I think every teacher should have a Palm Pilot. All my addresses and phone numbers are on it; a to do list; calendar; lesson plans; schedule etc...
Kathleen - oh, geeez another computer! Ihave all I can do to keep up with this one!
Mary K&1 - Are all the major computer manufactures making them?
Marjan - Mary, yes. I've heard of a marks program for it although I haven't checked it out. It's great for all those anecdotal comments you have to make. There's no need to have all those little sticky notes...everything is in digital format on the PalmPilot.
Marjan - Katleen, it's a mini computer!
Kathleen - I like sticky notes. They don't have to be downloaded or uploaded or scanned or booted
Marjan - Mary, there are a number of different versions on the market. Mine is made by 3Com
Mary K&1 - How long can it run between charges?
Kathleen - See, my point exactly, sticky notes don't have to be charged
Marjan - Kathleen, I keep losing all my little stickies and notes. At least they're on my PalmPilot and backed up on my desktop computer.
Kathleen - how much does it cost you to replace a lost palm pilot?
Marjan - Mary, it takes 2 penlight AAA batteries. Depending on use, 1 to 1.5 months before replacement of batteries.
Mary K&1 - Kathleen, my sticky note get stuck in all the wrong places ... I can't control my stickies :-\ I don't like them much
Marjan - Kathleen, it's cheaper than a laptop!
Kathleen - my computer gets stuck plenty :-/
Mary K&1 - WOW, that's great!
Mary K&1 - Guess what I want for Xmas
meeha/ece/tx - it sounds 'energy efficient', how easy is it to keep up with? (My class-link phone is always getting misplaced!)
Kathleen - Marjan, but I'm not comparing with the price of a laptop, I'm comparing with the price of a pack of sticky notes 8-)
Mary K&1 - Does it have spell check?
Kathleen - How much does a palm pilot cost?
Kathleen - Mary, is that a subtle hint?
Kathleen - not subtle
Mary K&1 - It's best not to beat around the bush
Marjan - Kathleen, I don't know the US price, but as you know, speed and accessories keep increasing and price keeps decreasing. Around the $300 mark, depending on extras. You can even get a mini modem (about 2 inches wide) to do all your e-mail while you're teaching K!
Kathleen - no one will tell me how much this little palm pilot computer costs:-/
meeha/ece/tx - ... less than a laptop is still less than it would cost for me to replace my present unit -- even with upgrades. are we looking at $300 - 500 or what? (help, please!)
Marjan - The price in Canada was $300. Again, depending on accessories, memory...you can get a modem (about 2 inches wide so you can do your e-mail while teaching K!)
meeha/ece/tx - thank you! i was just wondering. :-)
Kathleen - DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY STICKY NOTES YOU CAN BUY FOR $300???? (e-mail at work, eh?)
Mary K&1 - Palm Pilot address http://palmpilot.3com.com/home.html
Marjan - Kathleen, at least you could "moonlight" on the job!
Lucy/OK/1 - I'm still trying to believe what I am reading....a hand held (palm) computer...hadn't seen one yet.
Kathleen - Mary, I think you'll have to approach Santa, if it had been under 250 I was going to buy it for you :-)
Marjan - Mary, thanks for the address. There's a lot of great programs out there for it as well.
Kathleen - Lucy, they are trying to convince meeha and techno-kat that we should have one
Marjan - The big reason I'm so enthused about the PalmPilot is because you can write on it with a stylus.
Lucy/OK/1 - Sounds good to me... I would love to have one.
Mary K&1 - $249 for the pro model
Kathleen - I think I'll have to speak to Palm Pilot about our huge audience of edcuators who want to e-mail from the palms of their hands ;-)
Kathleen - mary, you deserve the best, write to Santa
Lucy/OK/1 - I hate to ask you to repeat Kathleen...but just what are the capabilities of the palm pilot?
Kathleen - Marjan, would you list the capabilities of the palm pilot for Lucy and any lurkers who are interested?
Mary K&1 -  From PalmPilot's site "Instant access to your most important data. Whatever's important to you -- appointments, contacts, e-mail*, expense tracking -- the pocket-size PalmPilot™ Professional Edition organizer makes it easy to stay on top of things. It lets you enter, access, and update the information you need, whenever you need it. It does everything the PalmPilot Personal Edition organizer does and more. Quick Stats: Synchronizes data with your PC Supports e-mail* 1MB of flexible storage capacity Palm OS™ 2.0 Supports applications and links to popular PIMs from thousands of developers Size: 4.7" x 3.2" x 0.7" Weight: 6.0 oz (with batteries installed) Windows® 3.1x, 95, NT 4.0 and Macintosh®* compatible"
Marjan - Kathleen, the PalmPilot is a mini computer that can take your written notes. It contains a calendar, memo pad, calculator, expense sheet. At one time I had all 700 of my students on it, marks, web sites, notes to myself, a to do list etc
Marjan - Mary, oh WOW! Copy and paste...one of computing's great inventions!
Mary K&1 - You betcha, Marjan!
meeha/ece/tx - ok -- i'm convinced, i need one too!
Kathleen - Here is a link to Marjan's book, The Busy Educator's Guide to the World Wide Web http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0968331009/teachersnet
Kathleen - So Marjan, do you have other links to interesting seasonal sites?
Marjan - Kathleen, about the sites...CyberSurfari is going strong. It's over on November 20, but the 100 sites are a great resource for all teachers http://www.spa.org/cybersurfari
nikle/wi - I don't know if this is relevant, but what successful use of e-mail is there by teachers, without taking away their personal life
Kathleen - Marjan, the cybersafari site will remain available, right?
Mary K&1 - Speaking of Santa, Marjan, what's the best Santa sites?
Marjan - Kathleen, I also reviewed 3 Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza/Winter Solstice sites. I'll post them in our December chat!
Marjan - Mary, one of them was a Santa site that was around last year. My primary kids really enjoyed it!
Marjan - Mary, here's the 3 sites--check them out http://www.claus.com/http://www.benjerry.com/yule/index.htmlhttp://www.christmas.com/html/worldview.html
meeha/ece/tx - someone sent a cute link through -- it lets the kiddos check in and see if they are on Santa's 'good list' or 'bad list'.
Lucy/OK/1 - I don't have internet at school...we are soooo far behind in technology at our school.
Kathleen - Marjan's book is also available directly from him (autographed :-).. You can reach Marjan by e-mail at marjan@glavac.com
meeha/ece/tx - Marjan -- WHAT are you ever doing with 700 students?????!
Mary K&1 - Marjan, see any really good school web sites lately?
Marjan - Meeha, I'm the sysop and last year I taught every kid in the school.
Mary K&1 - Thanks for the Christmas sites :)
meeha/ece/tx - Sounds sscary to me! (and i don't even stutter!)
Marjan - Mary, yes try: http://204.170.128.4
Mary K&1 - Oh, yes, Bethlehem Area School District! It's changed since I was there last
Kathleen - What is that site, Marjan?
Marjan - Mary, here's another one:http://www.hobart.k12.in.us
Marjan - Kathleen, they're school sites
Kathleen - van gogh, what are you using your classroom computer for?
Lucy/OK/1 - Kathleen, do you use internet in your classroom curriculum? If so, could you just give me a quick example?
van gogh - Basically I am using it for reference, word processing, etc. I have a list of students who can't use the internet (via the parents wishes) but for the most part, it's basically being used for reference.
Kathleen - Lucy, we are not on the Internet :-(
Marjan - Kathleen, really! I assumed you were.
Mary K&1 - We are now 100% Wired in my district
Kathleen - Marjan, you probably assumed I'm good with a computer, too :-0
Kathleen - My kids were 100% wired today
Lucy/OK/1 - It's really disheartening isn't it? I know the Math series, McGraw Hill ( we adopted this year) has a great web site for the kids...but no internet.
Kathleen - Sheila, are you hooked up to the Internet in your classroom?
Marjan - Lucy, we just finished a project with the K students. It was Diamond the Dolphin from Florida. This great big plush dolphin was sent to us with post cards, a journal, a photo album etc. Kids and teachers just loved it. She's making her way to California now.
meeha/ece/tx - :-)! ditto, kat!
Sheila - Yes. I teach Science and try to use it when I can.
Sheila - We don't have e-mail though.
Marjan - Kathleen, your kids were wired too? And here I thought it was just mine!
van gogh - I do have a resource book at school for the internet.
Kathleen - Lucy, upper grades have it, but we don't get much at our level. I can't even get my old fisher-price diskettes replaced:-(
Lucy/OK/1 - That sounds wonderful, Marjan...would love to have that capability at my fingertips in my classrom!
Sheila - Kathleen, what level are you?
Marjan - Lucy, the next visitor we're waiting for are pandas and then an otter from California.
Kathleen - Van gogh, I think it's worth investing in someone else's research about what's out there (like Marjan's book). Saves time, worry
Lucy/OK/1 - All via the internet, Marjan?
Kathleen - Sheila, part time kindergarten
meeha/ece/tx - I told a couple of my parents "it has been Friday the 13th all day long!"
Sheila - Sixth grade here.
Marjan - Lucy, we also do a lot of pen pal cards to Japan. The original connection was made via e-mail, but everything is done by snail mail. The Japanese also pick up the mailing costs!
Kathleen - I believe that every teacher should have access to the Internet, at least as a tool/resource
Sheila - I agree.
Kathleen - Sheila, why no e-mail I wonder??
van gogh - You know I do believe that you are right. I think that the internet is a great place...lots of art out there and I need to know lots of new things.
Marjan - Lucy, if you're interested, here's the contact: Mitsura Shiota cards1@telemarketing.co.jp Just tell her that Marjan suggested you write!
Lucy/OK/1 - Wow! I'm impressed. Teach 1st grade, and have some really "Bright" kids this year..would love to be able to challenge them with such activities.
Sheila - Something about too many e-mail addresses. Just excuses I think.
Kathleen - Marjan, van gogh mentioned that some partents have opted not to allow their children to have access to the Internet at school. Any suggestions about how to bring those parents around?
Sheila - We have e-mail in the district, but not outside.
Mary K&1 - Show them what it's like ... what it has to offer... we had this problem at first, but not now. The parents have seen it and they like it ... "build it and they will come"
Marjan - Kathleen, the best way to do it is slowly. Do a number of high profile projects, bring in the press and when parents see what their children are missing (by reading the newspapers and watching the 6:00 news) they'll be asking you how to participate!
Marjan - My principal has always told the staff to communicate communicate and communicate with parents. Let them know what you're doing. There shouldn't be any surprises for them.
Sheila - Just an idea-- I use the internet in my classroom, but when we are researching at the beginning of the year, I have sites bookmarked to a disk or the hard drive, therefore the students don't have to "wander". Whew that was a long sentence!!
Nita - are there any www sites for good bulletin board ideas??
Marjan - Sheila, great idea. I've done that with a number of sites and posted them to our school's web site.
van gogh - Kathleen, Marjan, I really think that the internet gets a bad name. The nifty thing about our internet at school is that if there are things that aren't appropriate for kids it is simply blocked. Seems simple enough to me.
Marjan - Van Gogh, I agree. I'm always trying to put a positive spin on the negative stories.
Sheila - Thanks! It works great for saving "wander" time. I have used it for researching biomes and endangered species.
Kathleen - van gogh, yes, but the stories out there frighten those who haven;t experienced it. maybe you could try an evening when those parents come and check it out for themselves
meeha/ece/tx - what a good idea, kat!
Tams - Does anyone know the TEA website... Looking for the TEC document
Marjan - Kathleen, it's not just the Internet, but computer technology as well that frightens a lot of parents.
Kathleen - Marjan, I can relate to that, right Mary? ;-)
Kathleen - Tams, I'm not familiar with TEA and TEC...anyone else?
meeha/ece/tx - Tams -- have you plugged TEA into a search engine?
Mary K&1 - Kathleen, you're getting the hang of it :)
meeha/ece/tx - Texas Education Agency?
Kathleen - van gogh, I was just thinking that viewing art on the computer via the Internet is as good as a slide show, better than print in books, right?
Kathleen - Tams, what does the document (TEC) relate to?
meeha/ece/tx - you could also plug in "Tenet" if it is in TX! for some reason that gets through to the state's education sites.
Mary K&1 - Public Education Information Management System http://www.tea.state.tx.us/peims/Is that what you're looking for?
Marjan - Ah, Texas! I have a soft spot for Texas. One of my first e-mail projects (1994) was done with a school in San Antonio.
Marjan - I also had one of my first Internet presentations in Dallas.
amy - i've got to do a slideshow project for a graduate class anyone got any ideas. the slideshow will be in clarisworks and has to have at least 6 slides
meeha/ece/tx - infomart?
Marjan - Amy, what's the project about?
Kathleen - amy, are you asking for project topic ideas or technical assistance?
amy - project topic ideas
meeha/ece/tx - what is the class?
Kathleen - amy, what do you teach?
amy - technology application in reading and writing
Kathleen - van gogh, can you see the screen now?
amy - i'm not currently teaching, i am a full time graduate student
van gogh - Yes, Kathleen.....there is a screen.
Kathleen - do the slides have to show the use of technology, or can the slides BE the technology?
meeha/ece/tx - amy -- could you incorporate authors' websites and information they share about themselves at their sites into this presentation?
Kathleen - Maybe you could illustrate the developmental stages of writing, from scribble writing to word processing?
van gogh - Hey I just signed up for a Multimedia /productivity class. Our computer tech is offering it at our school.
Kathleen - van gogh, that sounds like a worthwhile class
Kathleen - oh, slides of websites, is that the kind of thing you are looking to do?
Marjan - van gogh, are your taking Hyperstudio?
amy - maybe i should clarify, i'm currently working on a slideshow using clarisworks and have chosen to do seasons and holidays. i'm just looking for project ideas for another slideshow. I seem to have drawn a blank
Marjan - amy, Dinosaurs...always a good topic!
Kathleen - amy, what about something relating to diversity within a population? or does it have to be web related?
meeha/ece/tx - i don't understand... what kind of project ideas are you looking for?
van gogh - I have been excited about 'puters from the get-go. And yes, I believe Hyperstudio is in that class.
meeha/ece/tx - WHAT is Hyperstudio? I've got it on my new 'puters -- have no idea what it is or how to use it
Kathleen - van gogh, what do you do with the extra earring when you buy a pair?
Mary K&1 - Dinosaurs, a new one has just been put on display! Anyone have the address?
amy - i'm looking for topics to illustrate and use in a slideshow. Dinosaurs are a great idea, except that they're kind of common.
Kathleen - KB, are you online at school?
Marjan - Hyperstudio is a multi media presentation program geared to students.
amy - hyperstudio from what i know is a program somewhat similar to kidpix
Kathleen - amy, children's games?
Mary K&1 - Hyperstudio is like an easy HyperCard
van gogh - Kathleen....LOL I really needed that!!!! You know all those extra earings make awesome artwork!!.
Marjan - Amy, you could do the latest Dinosaur that they've discovered. Or go to http://www.miksike.com/contest for a student dinosaur contest
KB - What age level we talking?
Kathleen - you could use them in self-portraits, the mirror type
Kathleen - amy, could you do something with solar system or space?
Marjan - KB, the contest is for children ages 6 and up
amy - just something i'm wondering--are any of you online outside the US
Kathleen - amy, you should do something that will be of use when you teach
Kathleen - no, Connecticut here. But Marjan is out of the States-Canada
amy - oh--NY here
Marjan - Amy, yes, I'm from Canada (LONDON, Ontario)
van gogh - Marjan, I can tell you that I chatted with our computer tech...and he said that the class would be one that I would benefit from the class, plus he knows that I love any type of computer art activities. I am very limited on what I do with the computer. But I would like to put children's art work on disk, to be stored for portfolio use. We have a digital camera and I think a flatbed scanner.....I am really in need of computer knowledge, and it can't happen soon enough.
meeha/ece/tx - amy -- how about penguins and polar bears, a visit to the antarctic?
meeha/ece/tx - Marjan -- i grew up about 100 km from London, across the blue water bridge in MI!
KB - Amy..she's right. The sol. system could be interesting. Facts change continuously.
Kathleen - amy, how about a project about the Teachers.Net web site? :-)
amy - the visit to the antartic is an original idea, where would you go with it? know of any good sites i could get pictures from?
Kathleen - amy a search would turn up lots of stuff. marjan?
Marjan - meeha, WOW...small world. How did you end up in Texas?
meeha/ece/tx - check out pbs.com -- they should have a good start. try audubond (sp?) society -- national geographic ... or plug in the work in a search engine!
amy - funny kathleen : )the solar system's good too, but what might be an original take on it rather than the obvious 9 planets?
Marjan - van gogh, you'll love the art possibilities of the Internet and computer once you learn more programs.
KB - Meeha..I'll honk in the a.m. as I drive under the bridge in Mich. I
Kathleen - amy go farther out into space. Or do a history of space vehicles, up to the space station
KB - going to the teacher store.
meeha/ece/tx - KB -- you in Port Huron?
Rocky Raccoon - <<¤>>^<<¤>> Is in the room!
Marjan - Amy, do a search on Ask Jeeves: http://www.ajkids.com/
KB - I started to say I will be on my way to the teacher store downtown.
KB - 50 miles away on the lake.
Kathleen - Rocky, no masks allowed ;-)
amy - Rocky i like your eyes!
Rocky Raccoon - The chatroom was jam packed I thought I'd relax in the lounge.
KB - I love the mask!
Marjan - KB, Lake Erie?
amy - thanks for the tip marjan
Kathleen - Rocky, are you online at school?
Marjan - Hello Rocky, what a great costume!
Rocky Raccoon - <¤>^<¤> Sorry!
Rocky Raccoon - Mask is off.
Marjan - Rocky, now there's a great idea for a travel buddy...Rocky Raccoon! The kids would love it!!!
van gogh - OOOh Lake Erie......not too far from home. Fish there when I get a chance...
Rocky Raccoon - Yes, I'm on line at school.
Kathleen - <@^@>
amy - how can you be online at school, what time is it?
Kathleen - <@>^<@>
Rocky Raccoon - My sister lives in Erie, PA.
Kathleen - amy, we mean, hooked up at school, not online right now
Mary K&1 - Looking good, Kat!
Marjan - Hello Solo1 Any snow in Saskatchewan?
KB - Sorry Marjan....Lake Huron. I can't keep up it's Fri.
Marjan - I think we've got enough people here to form a Lake Erie chapter and a summer reunion offline.
Rocky Raccoon - I am at home now. I thought the questions was am I on line at school. Meaning am I hooked up to the internet at school. The answer to that question would be, "yes".
van gogh - love all these little eyes lots of "impressionism" going on here
solo1 - Marjan...do you have any sites for Christmas concert materials?
Rocky Raccoon - Speaking of great sites I want to pass the following on to all of you who may be teaching students how to use the internet. Check out http://lib.drury.edu/pub/dswadley/thanks.htm It is a Thanksgiving internet hunt. It is great. I did one for Halloween and the kids loved it and learned a lot too.
Rocky Raccoon - The answer key is at http://lib.drury.edu/pub/dswadley/keys.key.htm
Marjan - solo1, you'll appreciate the irony here. This site is from Saskatchewan. Great Drama ideas: http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/erachi
Kathleen - Thanks, Rocky!
amy - just wanted to thank you guys for your help. : )
Marjan - Yes, thank you Rocky. Kids love scavenger hunts.
Rocky Raccoon - You'll love it!
solo1 - Yes, Ironic! THanks...
Marjan - Amy, glad we could help.
Kathleen - amy, try to let us know what you end up doing..you can come back on Dec. 11, or post on the main chatboard http://teachers.net/chatboard
meeha/ece/tx - glad to help, amy!
van gogh - I think I need to invest in the Busy Educator's Guide to the WWW. Is it mainly a resource guide, or does it tell me how to use the WWW?
Marjan - van gogh, it'll show you how to use the WWW and how to use sites and projects in your classes.
Kathleen - It tells you the basics, good sites, projects, advice
solo1 - What about neat ideas for school home pages, Marjan?
Rocky Raccoon - <¤>v<¤> This is wise old owl face!
van gogh - There is a neat site called Puzzlemaker. You can create wordsearches, mazes, etc. in any area of teaching.I used art vocab for a word search, and famous artists names in another.
Kathleen - van gogh, I recommend the book, really, not just saying that (Marjan, let go of my ear!! I'll look like van gogh!)
Rocky Raccoon - Well, I'm going back to the chat room, thanks for the rest in the lounge.
Marjan - solo1, glad you asked. My wife wants to help out our son's school with their web site. She's starting small, posting newsletters. She wants to start scanning student artwork in the primary grades and add them on the web site.
Kathleen - Rocky, you are very creative =o}
Kathleen - bye, Rocky!
amy - not leaving just yet-- can anyone recommend some good sites for kids? i have to evaluate five reading, writing or special education sites
Rocky Raccoon - <<¤>>^<<D>> Chow for now!
KB - Amy... did you try Superkids. com ?
Rocky Raccoon - Oh no! It looks like someone poked me in the eye!
Marjan - Kathleen, was that your ear???
amy - nope haven't tried superkids i'll check it out. any others you can recommend?
Rocky Raccoon - <<¤>>^<¤>> There, that's better. Chow!
Kathleen - LOL! Rocky!
van gogh - Ok, Ok, speak up I can't hear you!!!!!
Marjan - amy, try Headbone: http://www.headbone.com/ Bonus http://www.bonus.com for starters. There's a lot more.
Kathleen - van gogh, we'll have to put our heads together
Marjan - Amy, Curiosity Freezone is another:http://www.freezone.com/
Kathleen - solo, your name is redundant, don't you think?
solo1 - Thanks, I'll do that!
Rocky Raccoon - <<¤>>^<<¤>> It sure is Friday the 13th, I'll be extra careful in the dumpsters tonight.
van gogh - You know, today Kathleen, that wouldn't be such a bad idea. Two ears are better than one!!!!
Kathleen - Rocky, you really like it here, don't you?? :-)
Marjan - For girls, try Club Girl Tech http://www.girltech.com
Kathleen - van gogh, except in a noisey classroom
van gogh - Rocky, have you ever thought about a career in art????
solo1 - Rocky... I saved the lives of two little raccoons this year. They were fun, til we had to let them go. They rewarded me by destroying my corn patch.
Marjan - I like Cyberkids http://www.cyberkids.com and cyberteens http://www.cyberteens.com
van gogh - As I always say....from every negative there is a positive!!! So having one ear in the art room is really a plus!!!
Marjan - solo1, when I worked in northern Ontario, farmers told me that one or two raccoons could destroy your crop. They just keep eating and eating!
solo1 - Marjan...What about special ed. links?
Mary K&1 - Well, this has been great, but I must go, I'm falling asleep |-( Thanks Marjan for another lively chat. Good night all
Marjan - solo1, a great Canadian site for special ed is Canada SchoolNet. There are links to special ed and other subjects: http://www.schoolnet.ca/
amy - this was my first time in a chatroom-- you guys have been truly helpful thanks all--the next chat is Dec 11? anyway i can reach you before then?
