Kelly M - Hi everybody!
JanWV - Happy New Year Everyone...
Susan (NC) - I see we have a few people to chat today......does everyone go back on Monday?
Monika - Hi all...how is everyone?
Monika - we went back Thursday!! (snow days)
Susan (NC) - We actually had a teacher's work day Friday; but I stayed home........ & worked on NB- what else?
Becca - We had work days on Thur and Fri but I used some comp days to stay home and type!--Just like Susan1
Kelly M - I go back Monday.... I've certainly enjoyed two weeks off!
Monika - my engine just shut down, trying to get a #4 down *LOL
Kelly M - Becca - are you feeling like your approaching the finish line?
Sandy - Hi! I have a question. I'm reading a literacy entry. Do you have to just have one question about the child's development? and in entry 4 would reading recovery training NOT be an accomplishment if you are a RR teacher?
Kelly M - oops -= that was supposed to be "you're"! Good thing I stay in first grade!
Becca - My brain is like squashed! Patrice emailed me yesterday. It made me giggle, "I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and it is not a train." However right now I think it could be a train.
Kelly M - Sandy - I would think that you need more than one question for literacy!....more like 3-5! I think RR training would depend on how you write it up.....not so sure it's an 'accomplishment'....
Susan (NC) - Sanday, I thought you were supposed to have more than 1 question.........and having RR as an accomplishment would definately be a keeper........but this is just my humble opinion-
Becca - Sandy..I'm a candidtate but I know RR training is very rigerous and I see a lot of valuable learning that could impact student learning
Monika - in # 4, i am talking about a workshop I attended...I am writing examples of how I used what I learned ... am I headed in the right direction? And they said #4 entries were the easiest...yikes!
Kelly M - Hi Wanda - welcome!
Wanda (SC) - Hello, this is my first time here
Wanda (SC) - thanks
Kelly M - Monika - yes, that sounds like the right direction!...you want to show student impact from what you learned!
Sandy - Thnkas, I'm on the right track. She went to many conferences and mentored others about RR. I think that would be a better use.
Becca - As kelly stated it would be how you write it up.
Bonnie - First time for me too!
Kelly M - And hello to Bonnie! Wow...we have a crowd today!
Wanda (SC) - great
Wanda (SC) - Is anyone here in EA science?
Monika - with student impact, just HOW specific does it need to be??
Kelly M - Sandy - yes...then I think more kids are impacted.......have her explain just HOW they are impacted, though...don't take it for granted!
Monika - I mean, I can think of individual children, etc...
Susan (NC) - All of a sudden - lots of people are here; hope I can keep up!
Kelly M - Monika - I would say something like "because of this, I could see that I was able to help Johnny by doing XYZ..."
heather - This is my first time here, too!
Sandy - Also , in the literacy, does the new gen have to have a plan to improve the child's literacy development?
Bonnie - Entry 2 is harder for me to write up than I expected. I have written a social studies goal and a art goal, but the more I think of it, I want to combine them so that I have 1 overall goal that includes art and social studies? Any thoughts
Sandy - Also, in literacy, do you have to involve parents? I'm an old gen person and don't have the directions for the new one.
Kelly M - Sandy - I don't have the directions in front of me....but I bet they do! Can somebody clarify that question about a literacy plan?
Becca - In the supporting lit development you talk about strategies you will employ in the future
Kelly M - Hey there heather and Mary Lou! Hello!
Mary Lou - Bonnie - You want to make sure that your Arts goal can stand on its own. Prove you couldn't do without it.
Mary Lou - Hey Kelly! I'm snowed in - only a foot this storm though.
Mary Lou - Hey Kelly! I'm snowed in - only a foot this storm though.
Kelly M - Sandy - YES on the parental involvement!
heather - Do retakes use the old standards from last year or wait for this year's?
Becca - Sandy you can go to the NBPTS and view the new gen portfolio directions as will.
Mary Lou - Oops! Must have hit it twice!
Kelly M - heather - I don't believe the standards were revised this year. That only occurs after several years....
Monika - are the portfolios due at different times ?? I read something about it on the board yesterday
heather - Ok, thanks. I just decided to go for it, so I wasn't sure of all the rules.
Becca - Yes Monika- I'm due on Feb 15
Monika - April here, no wonder I was feeling behind!!
heather - In what way should you involve parents in the literacy entry?
Cher - Is this the EC -Gen chat?
Kelly M - Cher - yes, it is! Can we help you?
Mary Lou - Heather - How do you inform them of their child's progress? How do you encourage literacy at home? What strategies and help to you give to parents to aid in their child's development?
Cher - Thanks, Kelly...okay...didn't know if this was NBPTS or not...I needed general..and am new to EC Gen chat
Kelly M - heather - you need to involve the parents in working on developing the strategies that you are working on at school.....
Kelly M - Cher - is there something we can help you with? This isn't the general one...but you're welcome to stay!
Bonnie - Is it ok to state 1 overall goal for Entry 2, and include the arts and social studies? For example, through selecting and experimenting with different art media, students willexpress and understand friendship>
Monika - a lot of my communication is verbal, e-mail & not all on a long "trail" like everyone suggests though
Cher - Thanks, Kelly..what time is the general one? I am reading the mtg room schedule....
Cher - I think that is why I am confused here..
JanWV - I've been wondering.... What would be a general average for accomplishments for entry 4. I have 8, but a volunteer reader told me she only had four. Should I try to consolidtate them?
Mary Lou - Monika - Do you keep a "Communication Log"? We were required to do this when I certified. This would be where you would record verbal conversations. You could then use it for documentation.
heather - Thank you Kelly and Mary Lou.
Sandy - Thnaks for the advice , now in entry 4 relective summary-"If I could do something differently for my accomplishments"are they supposed to say what they think they need to work on, I don't see in the entry that I'm reading how she feels she could change, etc, I don't see any judgment on her teachings
Mary Lou - Jan - Any number of accomplishments can work - it's all in the write-up!
Kelly M - Hi Daniele - welcome! Cher - The general one is either Friday evening or Saturday evening...not sure! Check out the front page of the teachers.net website. It has it in the headline....
Daniele - I have 7 accomplishments for 4 and just sent it out ot be read
JanWV - thanks mary lou!
Cher - yes..thought it said 4 pm...general...maybe not....thanks...
Kelly M - Sandy - she needs to reflect on what she's one...what pattern she sees....what holes she sees, etc.
Monika - ML - not in that way. I have a notebook that goes home & in it there is a section where parents & I communicate. But not a general one where I log EVERYTHING
Sandy - The one I'm reading has 7, but someone I went through with 2 years ago had 1
Kelly M - Bonnie - I think your goals need to be stated clear....separately...one of SS, one for art, one for social skill......anybody else have an opinion on that?
Monika - ok...yiou mena a log for each student (2) you choose to analyze? That makes more sense.
Mary Lou - Yes, Kelly I agree they need to be specific.
JanWV - Again on 4, I change my doccumentaion from certificates from conferences, to samples of something I learned. For example, I changed a reading sympoisum certificate, to an copy of a child's running record. I learned how to do running records at the sympoisum... Good idea, or NOT???
Sandy - Thank you so much! As you can tell, I haven't read the new directions and I haven't looked at an entry in over a year. It's all starting to come back!
Mary Lou - Jan - Your documentation is jus the "icing on the cake". The write-up says it all and the documentation proves it.
ginger - hi everyone
Kelly M - Jan - you need to be able to have some verification of how that demonstrates an accomplishment. Like a parent can verify that their child increased their ability to retell stories after you taught them what you learned from that workshop, etc....
Kelly M - Happy Saturday, Ginger! Are you buried in snow, too (like Mary Lou?)
Susan (NC) - Hi ginger! Are you the ginger on the Ba nkers list?
Becca - Jan at a conference I got the idea to do method of math instruction. My documentation was the a page (six slides) of the power point that educated my parents on the curriculum
Becca - The slides showed student work as samples
ginger - yes, susan, how are you?
ginger - yep, we're all snowed in but i got out today to see a movie...going stir crazy!
Susan (NC) - Fine ginger, but I'm starting to panic.........I need to start my video's next week!
heather - Where is the bankers list?
ginger - well, susan, the best advice i could ever give is just to tape a lot. it drove me nuts, but it was the only way to get one that was good
Susan (NC) - heather, the banker's list is for Advanced candidates.......
Kelly M - heather - the banker list is on yahoogroups.com....you can find it at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EC_GENbankers/ .
JanWV - Becca.... I'm feeling the time crunch...I'm going to throw away all my science and start all over again..
ginger - i finally got out my entry 1 that i am redoing, and discovered that although i do a lot with literacy, i had neglected to list a goal for my second kid!!! imagine that!!!]
ginger - i finally got out my entry 1 that i am redoing, and discovered that although i do a lot with literacy, i had neglected to list a goal for my second kid!!! imagine that!!!]
Susan (NC) - I've decided to video everyday.........that way I have a "record" of my lessons, what the kids & I said, and hopefully - a miracle will happen & a good tape will appear -
ginger - those of you who have been successful with that entry, did you have more than one goal for the kids or did you combine your ideas into one goal?
heather - Thank you, Kelly. Susan what is an Advanced Candidate?
ginger - good idea, susan
Daniele - a job has come open that I have waited for 6 years to open. I'm debating whether to apply for it or not. This is my first year doing the boards and this job will force me to leave my class. How will taking this job affecct my certification. It's a language development specialist itinerate postion
ginger - i had my heart set on several, but i really do like the one i ended up using
Susan (NC) - heather- it is a nice way of saying you didn't make it the first time!! LOL
Becca - susan be sure to watch them as you go along. i took a break and didn't watch a series of videos. It turned out my camera angle was bad (the backs of head) and the video content was GREAT. so I had to retape to get the content and the angle
ginger - daniele, you will need to use a class for your entry if you are doing ECGEN
heather - Well, then, I am an Advanced Candidate!
Bonnie - Bye everyone, back to typing!
Kelly M - Hi lori - how are you?
Becky - Ginger, I addressed several questions concerning each child.
Susan (NC) - good luck heather.........we are in Good Company, right Kelly?
ginger - susan, how do your kids feel about the taping?
Becky - Same here, Heather. It's nice to be in good company.
ginger - thanks, becky
Susan (NC) - My kids are excited; they said it will be being in a MOVIE!
ginger - i have several questions for each kid, but only listed one goal such as "to develop english communication skills in all areas>" is that too global?
lori K/FL - Hi all! I think I'm getting gun shy...but i'm working at it. Re; bi idea...is it only 1 big idea or can we list two?
Marcy - Hello to all!
ginger - lori, only one big idea is what you probably want
ginger - princess, are you a teacher?
Sandy - With my first video experience, we videoed that morning and that afternoon , we were the movie crtics. They realized they needed to speak up , etc. I had a hand held microphone also. So we videoed one day and let them interview each other. That got most of the giggles out of them so we could do real taping.
Daniele - I have all the documentation and sample already ecpect I still need to do my science tape but I should have time. If I get this position I will start in mid Febraury would that matter as long as I have my portfolio complete or do I have to finish the year
JanWV - Kelly, could you give some examples of the term "lift for evidence?'
Marcy - Sandy, that was a good idea!
ginger - that sounds good, sandy. i bribed my class with 10 minutes outside if they would ignore the camera
Kelly M - Jan - I will in a minute....sorry for the delay...I'll be right back...
JanWV - ok
Becky - Last I kept an old video camera on a tripod for weeks...soethimes recording and other times not. The children became comfortable with the camera.
Susan (NC) - Ginger - that idea sounds like a winner; I'm going to borrow it-
Sandy - In my actual video you hear a loud bang! ( The kids knocked over a table on accident) I had to leave the taping and attend to them. I wrote it up and it didn't create a problem.
Becky - That's "last year" and "sometimes." My nails need to be shorter.
ginger - daniele, i don't remember reading anywhere that you had to be in a certain position. just that you have to do the work with a class that is the correct age.
Marcy - Made so many bad tapes that the kids just got to the point "Here we go again".
Daniele - thanks ginger
Becca - ginger I'm working on thhat too. As I am writing how I support them with strategies and several goals relate to further extensions in those areas. I'm not sure if this is ok or dnot
Becky - In my science entry, ithink I was in it too much. I will videotape more student interaction without yours truly this time.
ginger - sandy, in the middle of my science video, one of my kids said to another kid, "Hey, do you think I'm stupid?'" We just stopped and let them finish, then we kept going
ginger - ok, becca, i'm going to think about what you said. thanks
Sandy - ginger, that's real life. I think the assesors understand that. Now if I watch that tape I just laugh. It caused me so much worry at the time. I hated to tape!
ginger - me, too. it wasn't taping the class that drove me nuts, it was the mechanics of it
Marcy - The tapes that I submitted were not perfect. For example, in my SS one child was visually not engaged. However, you are able to address problems in your reflection. That is what I did.
ginger - sandy, i think both of my videos must have brought some laughter.
JanWV - I've got company.. can i keep the chat on.. and read it later.. you all are so helpful!
DebbieMc. - Hey ladies!
ginger - my ss video was us creating a class song. the kids voted on which song we would create new lyrics to. To my dismay, they chose......who let the dogs out?
JanWV - don't want to miss something important!
DebbieMc. - I just have a few minutes. Thought I'd check in.
Marcy - Hi Debbie!
Sandy - I definetly had room to say I could improve here and here...I had lots of materaial to work with
Becky - Marcy, same here. I realized that I needed to move a particular child to a new seat where he would feel more comfortable. He was quiet natured and sitting between two strong personalities.
heather - Lori, where in Florida are you?
Susan (NC) - Wow - Debbie Mc- missed you!
BRuppert - Hi Everyone, how is it going for you all?
Sandy - ginger, hey you are going with the child's interest! If you are a Georgia fan that would be appropriate
Kelly M - Hi there DebbieMc! ...and bruppert! welcome to you both!
DebbieMc. - I've just been enjoying the vacation.
Becky - HI, Hi Bruppert and Debbie.
lori K/FL - heather, i'm in bradenton
ginger - thanks, sandy
Susan (NC) - I'm about to leave but I'm glad I got to say hi-
DebbieMc. - I hope writing/teaching is going well for everybody.
aggieb(NC) - Hi to all
heather - I am in Fort Lauderdale, too far away to meet in person. Oh, well.
ginger - ok, susan, see ya later
DebbieMc. - Susan, we need to connect off chat.
ginger - hi, aggie!
Susan (NC) - ok - Debbie.
Monika - can pictures be used as part of documentation in #4 to help illustrate? What tools are usually most effective?
ginger - monika, i didn't use photos, but if they show student impact, why not?
DebbieMc. - Monika, I'd say use something that would prove impact on students.
Becky - Yes, Monika. I think the directions specify how many to a page if I remember correctly.
Susan (NC) - Happy New Year everyone & keep working............bye!
BRuppert - Hey Aggie how are you doing?
heather - I used a page of a powerpoint presentation with 6 slides on it as documentation, and somebody else had done the same thing.
Becky - Bye, Susan.
Marcy - I agree with Debbie. I am not sure if there is a "right" way, as long as it shows that important impact on children
Monika - I don't know why I am struggling with the whole "showing student impact" thing...maybe I need to look at it differently?
Becky - I did a six slide Powerpoint for instructional materials for Entry 2.
Marcy - I used 6 slide powerpoints in entry 4 and SS
ginger - monika, if you can list a way that some kid or kids improved in some area because of what you did, that's impact
Kelly M - Hi Amanda - welcome!
Amanda - Hi to all. This is my first time chatting
ginger - if you can see how what you did affected a family in a positive way, and that impacted the kid, that's impact
ginger - hi amanda, welcome!
aggieb(NC) - I used the six slides from power point also
Marcy - Well said, Ginger
Monika - I am using a 2day arts integration workshop I attended, and I used the example of how a child learned syllable segmentation through something I learned...how do I show that?
ginger - monika, does that make sense? ask for more if not
Becky - Monika, I used parent letters as evidence of specific student impact in several accomplishments..
Monika - ginger...ok, so a letter from a parent or other teacher?
Monika - what i am saying is my examples seem really hard to write about (?)
ginger - you can say that in your write up, "sam was able to understand syllable segmentation based on what i had learned." does that sound right?
Becky - Yes or an administrator.
Amanda - I worked until 2 in the morning on portfolio four. Analytical writing is a lot tougher than I thought
Becky - Amen, Sister!
Monika - I wrote it up with more elaboration & detail as well to give better understanding. But hard to document?
ginger - monika, i don't think you need a letter from anyone to use the syllable workshop, but you can get a verification form. It iwll be important because you will write about the specific kids that saw improvement because of it
Amanda - I finally chose a video for my social studies lesson. I am interacting with the children, but they are doing most of the talking. I generated questions when they quit talking. Do you think that it is okay I was in the video the whole time
ginger - yes, amanda, you are the facilitator!
Marcy - Well, I must go! Happy New Year evryone!
Becky - Amanda, I was in the video the whole time too, and did well on this one.
Becky - Amanda, I was in the video the whole time too, and did well on this one.
Monika - it was an arts workshop, but my literacy facilitator can write something fro me I'm sure
BRuppert - Kelly are you still assessing Literacy?
Becca - the file have a letter ginge wrote that you can modify to give to people you want to write letters
ginger - sure, but remember that the documentation is the icing on the cake (who said that today?) You have to write about the kids and how you affected them
heather - Amanda, are they using the arts in the ss video, or are you writing about that part in a before and after lesson?
Monika - that's what I did in the write-up, got specific
ginger - good, monika!
Kelly M - bruppert - I haven't ever assessed!
Amanda - glad to hear it. I heard from different people that the video should focus on the children only. Heather, I did incorporate arts in the video. The children did a creative dance to classical music and they painted
Monika - ginger - can I paste what i wrote for you to check out?
Becky - I must go also, but before I do, please know that you all have been so important to me since finding this ring (March). When I see some of your names, my heart jumps. Thanks so much for everything! Bless you!
ginger - kelly, thanks for being so constant, and so patient with all of us. I am so glad this ring exists on days when I can't deal with thinking!
ginger - monika, you mean just that one piece?
Monika - just a few sentences, not the whole thing LOL
BRuppert - Kelly , I thought you had assessed
heather - Sounds great, Amanda! What grade?
ginger - bye, becky!
ginger - sure, monika!
ginger - gingerh@warwick.net
Amanda - Heather, I teach Kindergarten. What grade do you teach?
heather - I teach Kindergartne also.
heather - Kindergarten, sorry
Kelly M - bruppert - nope....it's never worked into my schedule. I certainly hope to some day, but so far I haven't! I DID just get off the phone with my Reading First panel!....we almost got to come back to DC...but have done it on conference calls instead!
ginger - hey, look! a kindergarten explosion!
Becca - PAM???
Kelly M - Hi luv2teachk!
BRuppert - Kelly that is a bummer, I was hoping to see you again.
lori K/FL - yeah K!
Kelly M - bruppert - I was hoping to see you, too! Hey Pam...is that you?
Monika - ginger - just sent it, thanks again!
Daniele - I'm beginning to feel out of place, not teaching Kindergarten and all
ginger - i have to get some stuff done around this house! see you all on the ring. Thanks again, Kelly!
Amanda - It's good to know I chatting with so many kindergarten teachers
Monika - kindergarten this year too
BRuppert - Kelly, well just let me know if you can come back I will come back up to meet you again.
heather - Yes, we K teachers are a breed of our own!
aggieb(NC) - don't forget me I am K
Amanda - Do you have an all day kindergarten?
Kelly M - Hi again aggieb - I didn't get to talk to you before! I was sort of distracted here on a phone call!
Monika - I do...7:25-2:25 !!
aggieb(NC) - my connection is just awful since the holidays
aggieb(NC) - I am all day K
Amanda - Monica, your children are in the classroom a long time. We are in class from 7:55-2:25. I really enjoy all day Kindergarten
heather - All day K here, too!
BRuppert - I will attest the Kindergarten teachers at our school are wonderful and set things up so nicely for teaching first grade.
luv2teachk - Hi everyone i teach K too! It's like none other!! Thanks Kelly for this ring. I recently received my NBCT! You all are so wonderful. This is actually my first time to chat. I read often...but haven't chatted.
heather - Our day is from 7:55-2:00. Yours is a little bit longer!
Amanda - How many of your are NBC already?
aggieb(NC) - I certified 2002
lori K/FL - our day is 8:15 to 2:45
luv2teachk - yes, our day is 7:40-2:55.
heather - Congrats luv2teachk! Any special hints? I am a retake!
Daniele - my daughter goes to an all day pre-k (private school) the school district here only offers k and up but it only 1/2 day K. As a parent I like the all day preK and K. She sure has learned a lot but they do give her a rest period. Hers is 8 - 3
Kelly M - Hi kt - welcome! Oh, luv2teachk - okay!...I had you confused! Glad you could make it today!
Monika - I love it as well...but my kids have 11 specials a week so the schedule gets a bit hectic! And it's hard for me to find time to do what I need to do!!!
kt - I envy all of you full day kdg teachers. I'm k as well, but only have my darling for 2 1/2 hours each day.
Amanda - My children have 6 specials a week and I find I am always running out of time. Sometimes I consider not having rest time
Monika - I teach full day but don't have them for 2.5 hours a day!!
heather - Congratulations Aggie!!!
luv2teachk - heather, my greatest advice is not to procrastnate (sp)...put off to long. With all we (women) have to do with family, kids, school, extra curricular activities, sometime I would put things off. When it got down to the nitty-gritty , I had to take off from school about 4 days to get everything DONE AND MAILED IN ON TIME!! BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!!
BRuppert - In our area we have had both !/2 day and full day. The full day makes such a difference for the children
Monika - amanda - we don't have a rest time & only go to recess when we can get it in...we have 2-4 specials each day, it's crazy
aggieb(NC) - I did it with the support of the ring
luv2teachk - CONGRATS, ANGIE (NC)
Becca - I have a question regarding comm with parents for lit. I have conferenced with one of my child's parent four times (goal setting) since Aug. Detailing each conference seems cumbersome and repetitive. Any tips on how I might say this?
aggieb(NC) - I bought the scienceline, the whole set. I t helped to watch grades k-5 to understand inquiur
Amanda - Monica, we have recess every day. My children make it a point every day to let me know when it is playground time
BRuppert - Yeah we are all proud of AGGIE!! She is so good on the ering.
kt - What is the scienceline?
Becca - It is a great set i videos. i loaned my to pam i Penn
BRuppert - Aggie where did you get it? this scienceline? Is it $60.00?
Monika - migh would too , but with all the specials (performing arts school) they can't keep up!
aggieb(NC) - I am sorry, scienceline videos for inquiry science, you can find them on PBS.org
Kelly M - Becca - how about something like During our four conferences between Aug and Dec we discussed X, Y, and Z....
Amanda - I checked out the ring and got some good websites for science inquiry. Any more suggestions? I will begin videotaping science in the next couple of weeks.
Kelly M - aggieb - I have purchased those tapes, too....from PBS....but so far I haven't gotten to watch them! I've been sharing them with my local candidates....and they say that they are really terrific!
aggieb(NC) - Becca , I echo Kelly
Amanda - Thanks for the tips on the science videos. I will check out the website
sue - sorry to be late, jjust woke up from a nap
Monika - did you read my post about the lab coats? They are TOO cute!!
kt - How long does it take to receive these science videos? I'm doing my science entry during January and all are due Feb. 15.
aggieb(NC) - Yes, the scienceline videos were a lifesaver for me. I am also using my videos as part of my mentoring
Becca - Thanks aggie and kelly
Amanda - Kt, I dont' feel as stressed knowing your box is due in Feb. Mine is due in March
sue - becca- just got your email, will do it today
Kelly M - Hi sue - glad to see you! A little 'happy nappy', huh? Nice!
sisters - I am a retake candidate, is anyone else?
Amanda - Monica, I did read that post. Did the children use them during the video?
BRuppert - Guess I will get those videos too! They may help the old brain do the portfolio
Kelly M - kt - I got mine quickly. But I heard someone say that they were backordered. Perhaps they've gotten the tapes in by now....
sue - kelly- we've been playing cathch up since we spent the end of the 1st and the first 5 hrs of the 2nd in the ER
Monika - don't feel bad..I haven't even rec'd my box (but I hear there isn't much in it, more than you can download)
heather - Sisters, I am a retake also.
aggieb(NC) - I feel like a retake candidate. I am working just as hard and giving it my all. I haven't slowed up a bit
Kelly M - I loved the lab coats, Monika! Neat idea! Where did you say you got them?
sue - kelly- hubby slipped with a bowl wahing dishes and cut his wrist but all is OK now
Monika - amanda - I haven't started taping but I am sure they will! & I hung 2 with goggles in teh science station for when they have free exploration. I wrote their last names on the front pocket, etc LOL!!
sue - dollar tree has the clear goggles, now
Amanda - In the box, you receive a disc. You have to download everything yourself
Becca - Hi Sue i was side track for a bit! Thanks! I have gotten through my analysis of kid two and now on the the supportin lit dev! PHEW!
Monika - Kelly - most of the parents sent them in (dad's old white oxford shirts) and a parent got a bunch at a thrift srore
sue - if you go to the lakeshore learning website and click on teacher resources, it will get you to the annenberg fdn that does the video
heather - Monika, I loved your lab coats idea! I am sure the kids doo too!
Monika - and I use it as bai...they have to earn them each day we do science, it's a real treat
Kelly M - sue - wow...I'm so sorry! ...but glad he's okay now! Take good care of him!...if he made it with you through this process he is DEFINITELY a keeper!
Becca - Sue-I hope your husband is ok. My boyfriends brother in law sliped on christmas eve and did the same with a glass.!
Kelly M - Monika - that's a great idea! I'm going to collect them!
aggieb(NC) - sue how expensive are these from lakeshore
sue - oops, it was childcraft
sue - aggie- just gets you to a list of great resources
Monika - now I have a silly question about writing (#4). I have been encouraged to stay in PRESENT tense, but...
sue - becca- he's fine, just cranky
Amanda - I find that I switch tenses. Is this okay?
Monika - I am writing about a past workshop, so the wording sounds funny...I go from then to now, etc...any tips?
sue - amanda- I did the dame. you sort of have to it you are describing this years accomplishments and others
aggieb(NC) - Is the impact in the present?
kt - ask someone who is a good editor to help you with present tense
luv2teachk - Monica, i missed the lab coat idea. Could you quickly tell me about it. EVeryone seems very excited about it .. I like new ideas. I teach K...
BRuppert - sue, I am sorry to hear about your husband.Take good care of him even if he is cranky, it probably hurts big time.
Kelly M - Monika - tense really doesn't matter. I would go for what "sounds" like it flows. There is no evidence lifted for correct verb tense!
aggieb(NC) - I have an 800 #
Monika - um...well, it happened & is still happening, that's what makes it hard?!
BRuppert - aggie, you do? what is your number?
Amanda - What is the 800 # for? The labcoats or vidoes?
sue - aggie- for annenberg? great. I;m ordering for some of my teachers
aggieb(NC) - I have an 800 # for the videos :<
BRuppert - for me the videos, I have not read the email on the lab coats.
Amanda - I am interested in the number
sue - aggie- please post it to the general board
Becca - Gee Aggie I was thinkin you had set up an 800# so all of us candidates can call you wil our thousands of questions! Darn!
aggieb(NC) - 800- 424 7963
Monika - I asked for families to send in long-sleeve, white, oxford-style shirts for us to use as lab coats during science activities, etc. I wrote their last names on the friont pockets, etc...they got a kick out of it
BRuppert - ok shoot, AGGIE
kt - please post the # for the videos when you find it. thanks
BRuppert - thanks!!
aggieb(NC) - Hey, call me ,, I really don't mind.. I have an empty nest and hubby gets tired of hearing my stories
Amanda - thanks aggid
Kelly M - aggieb - I was ready to post your 800 number to the ring! We could cut out a lot of posts that way!...folks could just call you!

Amanda - sorry, meant aggie not aggid

sue - aggie- I think we've found your 4th job of the year LOL!
aggieb(NC) - I watched from grades K- 5 and got a thorough understanding of the different levels of inquiry
BRuppert - In late Jan. I will be having the empty nest again so we will be good company for each other.
sue - monika- have you created an observation form for them to use on their clipboards in the science center? they love them!
sue - here's to the empty nesters!!
BRuppert - Kelly, guess I should splurge and get them
Monika - no, we've barely started science...yikes! But I WILL!
aggieb(NC) - It was great to see the different strategies the teachers used. even though I used the same content as one of the teachers, I went about it totally different
Kelly M - Being an empty nester is the best kept secret ever! I miss them terribly, love when they come home, and love to have my house back to myself after they've left!

Kelly M - bruppert - I would get them if I were you. How about seeing if your district would buy them? They'd be great for ALL of your teachers!
