Christi - is this the chat for National Boards?
jeff - Yes it is.
Christi - thanks this is the first time I am trying this
jeff - Are you a candidate?
Christi - yes EC-GEN, you?
jeff - Yes, Ec-Gen, also. There should be more people logging on at 4:00. I have been here a couple of times.
Christi - what grade do you teach?
jeff - I teach 2nd grade. How about you? Do you have any questions, I could try to answer.
Christi - I teach Kindergarten....the thing that is causing me the most problems right now is the language in the social studies
Christi - what does featured perios of instruction mean?
Christi - how does that differ from what came before and after the instructional unit
Debbie - Christi, I teach K too
Kelly M - Hi everybody!
Christi - great, maybe we can help each other
dustyFL - hi, maybe you could help me. i'm looking to mentor teachers on here to log hours for my national boards...and to help, of course
Kelly M - Hi dusty and Becca - welcome!
Debbie - where do you teach, Christi
Christi - in NC
Debbie - I teach in Williamsburg, VA
pez/FL - Hi all, banker here
Susan (NC) - Happy Saturday everybody!
Michele in LA - Good afternoon
Susan (NC) - Kelly, did you get your snow? We got 6 inches!
Kelly M - Wow! So many folks! Hi Donna, pez, harps, Susan, and Michele!
Christi - where in NC Susan
pez/FL - Cold in Tampa Bay, 48 degrees...brr...
Susan (NC) - Hey Pez, I'm a banker too-
Donna - Hi! I am a newbie in Fl
Susan (NC) - Christi, I'm in western NC (mountains)
pez/FL - Susan, what are you redoing? I'm doing my science/math and my science ac
Michele in LA - I am really starting to worry about my lack of time left LOL
Becca - Christi, will you repeat your question. I seems to be missingn the bottom of my screen
pez/FL - Hi donna. my sister is working on her's this year.
Donna - I know Miclele-I am burning up my computer.
Christi - I'm trying to figure out what FEATURED PERIOD of Instruction actually means...the lesson or unit
Susan (NC) - Pez, I'm redoing Science & Community and Math at the AC but my stuff is from the older generation-
Hobbs - Hi, everyone.
pez/FL - Here's my question. I'm going to video tape a sink or float lesson,. The class will be in groups. Can I have my parent volunteers man the other groups while I focus the tape on the group I'm working on?
Michele in LA - Christi, I was wondering about that too
Christi - that is for Soc. Studies
harps - does it mean the video taped portion Christi?
Kelly M - Hi Hobbs - welcome!
pez/FL - HI monika
Kelly M - Hi Monika - welcome! pez- sure....you can use the parent volunteers! Be sure to write it up!
Christi - I don't know that is what I'm trying to figure out so I can write it up...it is in the planning and instruction section so I wonder if it means whole unit
Hobbs - pez/FL, I did that lesson last year, I'm a retaker and I floated around from group to group. I mounted a mic on a textbook that I carried table to table.
Donna - I may be wrong, but I think you can do one group as long as you make sure they know everyone had access to the same lesson/materials. Right?
Hobbs - Pez the idea of using parent volunteers is great and of course you can focus on one group. This is the challenge to figure out what is best
Kelly M - Donna - yes, you are correct. And you need to explain where the other children are.....what they're doing while you're working with this one group.....
pez/FL - It will be the same lesson, same materials. LAst year I did a color mixing lesson and I featured all the groups on the tape. I thought this time I would just stay with one group for the video if it's permissable
Michele in LA - the method that has worked best for me has been for me to rotate groups during center time. I'm in pre-k and my kids are used to free choice centers.
Becca - Christi my social goals, SS goal and arts goal were for the entire unit
Kelly M - Hi Marci - how are you today? pez - as long as you cover your bases about the other children that should be okay!
Hobbs - I need some ideas on classroom community? Any takers?
Michele in LA - now if I can just get footage that I'm satisfied with!
Marci - hi, frustrated but fine
Kelly M - hobbs - what kind of ideas?
Christi - what about what came before and after...is this talking about the unit or taped lesson?
Marci - lots of questions to ask today
Donna - will community be shown enough if the children are shown working together and sharing ideas/materials in SS?
pez/FL - It was really wierd. I scored a 2.0 on both my entry and at the ac. Someone mentioned that my lesson was more observational than inquiry and that's why I didn't score higher. I used the same big idea during the ac. Could that be why I scored "low" there also?
Hobbs - Choosing my featured lesson?
Becca - \Christi-have you switched to the analysis section now?
Christi - no it is still in planning and instruction
Monika - about entry 4...is it required, expected or suggested to include a communication log? And do we have to write it up as accomplishment? I jsut don't want the write-up to take up much room (of 12 pages)
Donna - before and after--should that be all the lessons in that particular unit?
Kelly M - pez - a particular big idea won't earn points over another one. You have to give evidence that supports that one, though. Donna - you have to establish what your social goal is for that one....if you're working on sharing/working together, then I would say yes!
Hobbs - Monika, I grouped all of my 2-way communication with parent ( contact log, parent conferences, etc.) together.
Becca - I was told to highlight the most improtatnt lesson. My unit was fairly long so it would have been too much to detail it all. I put the remaining lessons I wanted to talk about with the materials section
pez/FL - Is anyone familiar with the AIMS lessons for science and math? There's one lesson called Huff and Puff. Students predict how many puffs it will take to move items 3 feet. I've been trying to decide between that one and the sink or float lesson. Would one lesson be better than the other?
Monika - and you wrote it up as accomplishement? Communication?
Kelly M - Monika -= it is really suggested so that you can dmonstrate two-way communication - but remember, it needs to be about a variety of things...certainly not all behavior....and it helps if you are seen responding to a question of a parent, etc.....(to show the two-way)....
Michele in LA - Monika, I grouped mine too.
Monika - that's what it is...but I am wondering HOW MUCH I need to say about it??
Susan (NC) - I'm also using an AIMS lesson on magnets for 1st grade - so far, I've just done lots of reading - no acual taping; that comes next week.
Donna - I do a lot of AIMS but I feel it is more discovery than inquiry. It may be a good "jumping off point" if the kids generate ?? about the lesson
Marci - for ss I am doing finishing a unit on celebrations and traditions around the world and I am ending the unit with Chinese New Year. My videotape shows me facilitating (quite woodenly not like me at all) a discussion about what would show we know about the customs of Chinese New Year. Children come up with dragon celebrations and we go from there as arts naturally come up with creating using paint, etc music and dancing for a parade, etc. Is being a facilitator okay for the video or must I be "teaching"?
harps - Monika, write a brief statement about the accomplishment--the important thing is the impact portion
Monika - our plant died in the classroom & the kids were disappointed & wanted to know why...HELLO, we're doing plants (I just hope they don't get upset when they learn it died because I didn't water it!)
Susan (NC) - I'm hoping to show inquiry by letting the kids experiment and ask each other questions - not just answering mine..........
pez/FL - I'm kinda of leaning towards the sink or float. A lesson that will happen after the video tape will be for the students to take a ball of clay and make it float
Debbie - Marci, I am doing the same SS unit
Hobbs - Susan (NC) I'm also first grade. I need an idea for science last year I did sink or float? Will you give more details about your lesson?
Marci - I teach 1st grade, what about you?
Monika - harps - right, it seems seems like a waste of space to write a page to exaplin it
Patty (SC) - Marci - I was the facilitator in my SS lesson
Kelly M - Hi aggieb and Denise and Patty!
Debbie - I teach k
Michele in LA - I've been doing ramps and wheels. the kids want to talk more about cars too.
Donna - pez, I was thinking of a sink and float lesson-maybe different liquids and compare objects and how they float/sink in them
Kelly M - Monika - but you need to write about how those communications impacted student achievement.....
Susan (NC) - hobbs, the AIMS units have a lot of ideas - the one I chose was "mostly magnets" and have access to a Magnets lab with several differnent types of magnets, etc.
Kelly M - Hi bruppert! good to see you!
harps - you will not explain it, you will how what impact it had on your student's lives--or how it helped.
Monika - pez - have you done the raisins & soda water experiment with sink & float....fun & relates
Marci - I am usually more animated and moving around but on this video I just am sitting, is that okay? or should I do another videotape. I feel like I'm running out of time.!
Michele in LA - my husband suggested I do a lesson on why there is air in tires. would that be science too? he says yes.
bruppert - Hey aggieb, I got the scienceline tapes and I have been studying them.
Monika - gotcha, I am just going to have to do some shaving to get it to 12 pgs
Hobbs - Is anyone familiar with the marcopolo website I have searched there this afternoon for science/math and ss/art lessons I found one on communities using the Tortoise and the Hare and I found another lesson on Friendship Quilts and the History surrounding quilting.
pez/FL - Donna, you read my mind. I was thinking of having water, juice, and milk out for the kids and to have them inquiry if it makes any difference
Debbie - Marci, my e-mail is debbiezanca@prodigy.net Maybe we could chat that way too
aggieb(NC) - Do you see how they the tapes can help?
Kelly M - be careful with the science things to make sure that you are teaching an important science concept (whatever your goal is) and not just an activity that's fun. It really needs to be tightly connected to your goal.......
pez/FL - No monika,
Monika - the way you put it harps...makes more sense, thanks
Patty (SC) - Marci - I was just sitting in mine as my children were leading the discussion, I chimed in to join the discussion as a participant.
Donna - are the science tapes helping you with ideas? I haven't got them
Kelly M - also be careful that it's something your children are supposed to be learning (ie in your district or state curriculum, etc.)
Monika - but it's those fun projects here & there that really get me kids thinking & engaged
bruppert - AGGie OH MY GOODNESS!!! YES <
aggieb(NC) - Kelly I think that is the key.. the sequence of lessons and everything is tightly connected
Denise - are there 2 chats going on here? I have a split screen, one while and one purple. I can't tell where I'm posting ... new here.
Marci - Also some of my children can't be seen because of a piece of furniture but one gets up to show the clas something so you know she's there. Is that acceptable?
Donna - pez, I also thought we would mix different liquids to see which ones were heavier or kighter and how that may affect float/sink
Patty (SC) - MArci - I also videoed every lesson I did for the peatured period of instruction and picked what I felt was the best lesson to show.
Mary Lou - Monika, - It CAN be fun, but it must relate, not just be an "add-on".
Marci - 1 chat, multiple conversations
Denise - okay .. got it.. thanks
Monika - it relates...sure...goes from sinking to floating (the raisins) and they can figure out WHY
pez/FL - Need to go, sis on phone
bruppert - Hey Girls if you guys can get your hands on the PBS scienceline videos watch them, you will see real inquiry. It is neat. I wish I had seen them last year!!
Denise - I've been researching "No Child Left Behind" on this snowy day. Anyone have any opinions?
Kelly M - Marci - yes...don't worry about that! Assessors are regular teachers and know the limits of taping in your classroom!
Kelly M - Hey Mary Lou! didn't see you come in! we're sort of full in here today!
aggieb(NC) - I am using the tapes for mentor training
Kelly M - bruppert! You got the tapes! Great!
Mary Lou - Monika - Now where do they want to go next? What new questions did this raise? How do they propose to prove or disprove their theory?
Hobbs - bruppert-How do we get those videos?
Michele in LA - I'll be learning lots about NCLB. I've been asked to work on grade level expectations for my state
bruppert - We have been discussing "NO Child Left Behind" and we have differing opinions of this by our faculty
Donna - Kelly, that's because we newbies are all starting ti panic!
Monika - right ML...
Mary Lou - Hey Mom! I was quiet for a while!
bruppert - Hello, Mary Lou Goodbye heart, sweet Mary Lou!!
Monika - I'm going to tape plants and Chinese new Year & see what comes up
Mary Lou - Hey Kelly - It's 10 below here in Maine!
Kelly M - I think there are some good parts to the legislation....but I'm not in favor of how they want to control teachers.
Marci - another question: I teach 1st grade, many of the questions I see regarding literacy questions relate to K such as do they know letters, sounds, etc. Anybody have any good examples for 1st grade questions . I'm feeling very "stupid" at the moment. do you think the pressure to get it done is the problem?
bruppert - HObbs, I had to order them through my school district I will go and get the number for you , be back!!
aggieb(NC) - Kelly congrats on your assignment to read the grants.. I think you will be a wonderful asset. Someone who knows children
Mary Lou - Hi Bruppert! My dad used to sing that to me when I was little.
Donna - I will start videotaping next week-guess I will be very busy!!
Michele in LA - regarding inquiry -- what do you do with kids who seem to just think things are magic or "God did it or made it that way"
Denise - I wasn't aware of the responsibility it seems to place on Title I teachers .. If I'm understanding correctly.
harps - Marci, where did you find inquiry k questions for literacy?
aggieb(NC) - Marci, look at your state's requirement s for literacy, Mary Clay,
Monika - marci - I think of more comprehension for 1st, no?
Marci - reading through the emails, the files and in my county's K-1 assessments
Mary Lou - Denise - What does it require of Title One teachers?
Kelly M - For literacy questions, check the files. Lists of them are in there....many times!
Donna - Marci- what about high frequency words, phonemic awareness, applying phonics skills to writing, reading with understanding, fluency, use of the 3 reading strategies
Hobbs - Marci, I'm feeling the same way! First grade questions should be chunking sounds, sounding and blending to make sense of words, and to use this to comprehension.
aggieb(NC) - Richard gentry is also a good source for literacy
Denise - It's seeming to me that there are different "rules" based upon if your school is a Title I school or not .. I think my county is considering taking Title I out of our middle schools .. I dont' teach title I, just have some friends who do.
bruppert - Aggie what do you think of the book Spel a 4 Letter word? Do you have it?
Donna - harps, there are a lot of good literacy ? in the files under New Generation(the 2nd one)
Mary Lou - Comprehension questions - can they relate text to self? text to text? text to world?
Monika - when you write up an area (like science, which I haven't started) how many days of the unit do you include? All or how do you choose? I am trying to figure out an outline for writing b4 I start
Marci - things such as can he use blends?, digraphs? does he only know how to spell words correctly on spelling tests than not use them? Are those questions I could pose?
Susan (NC) - I need to get back to work - lots of good discussion today! Keep up the good work everyone!
Kelly M - With literacy don't forget to talk about oral language, written language too!
harps - for ss, I had a month long unit. I generallly told about all of it, answering the questions in the book but focusing on the videoed portion
Mary Lou - Marci - YES! Just think of what you need to know in order to facilitate the most learning.
Michele in LA - Gotta go, youngest child is whining
aggieb(NC) - Your time frame for your unit will depend upon your unit,, but youdo want to show a sequence, how one builds upon the other
Mary Lou - Also remember that you need to answer all your questions, so you don't want to have a million. Also your assessments will offer information.
Donna - for oral language, most of my assessment seems to be anecdotal records. Is that OK?
Becca - Strange question here: "I am going to my grandfathers house with my brother and serene too " I sthis a complete sentence. I was thinking incomplete b/c of the run on but now as I look at it it seem fine. Any thoughts
aggieb(NC) - My ss unit was 6 wks or more and my science was even longer,, Just depends on the unit
Denise - Just get rid of the "too" at the end of the sent ..
Kelly M - Also remember that in literacy those questions are sort of like goals. They need to be ones that then your assessing addresses...and your instruction.....you know, the same old "make it all tie together tightly" thing....
Monika - aggie - but how much of the unit did you include?
aggieb(NC) - Becca, the child means that he is also going to do the same thing that someone else did
Kelly M - Becca - your student wrote that?...or said it?
Mary Lou - Oral language - Can they retell a story? Can they ask and answer a question? Can they read back their writing?
aggieb(NC) - monika ,somehow , but not in detail I told about it all.
Debbie - Is 'change' a big idea in science
sue - hi yall
Becca - He wrote it. am thinking I want to switch sample b/c I
aggieb(NC) - constancy, change and measurement
Becca - OPPS!
Becca - Having a hard time todya
Kelly M - Hi sue - how are you today?
sue - kelly-- LOL! craazed with my bew job but fine
sue - I;m waiting on my new " mentee" come over
Monika - what portion of tapes are best to show. Like for science, is it best to show hands-on investigation, discussion, both...?
Becca - Sure sue..I'll hop on a plane!
Marci - what kind of assessments would you recommend for 1st grade? I use running records, observation, phoneme blending and segmenting, etc. My speech teacher said I couldn't administer any tests since I'm not qualified or have parent permission. I could ask parents but don't know what tests are out there to use that would help this entry. any advice?
sue - becca-- anytime
harps - are you all spending hours on writing to find it doesn't convey what you wanted to say so doing it all again--or worse yet--I started another unit
sue - marci- check out the monster spelling test. It looked like it was easy to admin
Debbie - I used change as my big idea to incorporate seasonal change and change in life processes-caterpillar to butterfly. Is that ok
Donna - yes harps. i have written everything over at least 5 times. Boy am I getting good at editing features on my computer!
Kelly M - harps - you'll be editing until you mail it! and most people are revising even after that (at least in their heads!)
Denise - Marci . .what "tests" are you wanting to give?
Marci - monster spelling test?????
Monika - do you have any sort of phonological awareness skills assessment? That's what we use
aggieb(NC) - These changes are constant and can be measured!!
Mary Lou - O.K. I've got a good one for you guys! I was up at school today and keep chapstick in my desk. I grabbed it and it wasn't until I had coated my top lip that I realized I had used a glue stick instead of chapstick!
harps - I have talked to some others who are doing that too
LN - the monster spelling test is Richard GEntry's
Donna - Mary Lou, you have been working too hard!
Denise - You may have to have parent permission ...
Kelly M - Hi LN - how are you today?
Marci - any tests that will help me with this entry for my kids to help write down what I seem to just do instinctively
Marci - love that story Mary Lou, sounds like something I would do
bruppert - Mary Lou, that was good. I have wanted to do that to some kids I know LOL
harps - bye, gotta get back to writing
Monika - books like "Phonemic Awareness" have good PA skill assessments in them (from rhyme to blending to phoneme deletion)
LN - I'm extremely lazy, Kelly
harps - only have 2 months left
Mary Lou - Gotta go too!
Kelly M - I use the monster spelling test every year - at different times....but when I want to be able to demonstrate to a parent about the progression a child makes in spelling! They just want the child to be able to spell! Mary Lou, I SO love that story! It is YOU!
Marci - is the monster spelling test something I can download or do I have to buy a book to get it?
Kelly M - LN - everyone needs to be lazy every now and then! harps, some folks have less than that! Some portfolios are due Feb 15! It all depends on when you signed on and your fees were all paid!
Kelly M - Marci - I have one. I'll upload it into the files this afternoon!
Marci - thanks Kelly, I apreciate it!
Donna - Kelly, do oyu use the monster test in K?
bruppert - Here is the phone number to call for the science line videos 1-800-344-3337
Monika - how much bru?
Marci - at what point did you all say, I've got to stop searching for the perfect video and just start writing?
aggieb(NC) - Have a great evening , I have to go.
Marci - Monika, I think my school paid about 55 for them
Donna - I was wondering if my school media specialist could find them somewhere in my county so I can borrow the videos
bruppert - Total $50.00 and shipping/handling makes it more. The PBS is in Alex. VA and that is close to my home. So it was only $56.00 total
bruppert - bye Aggie!! I will be in touch
Kelly M - Donna - I would use it with any student who is beginning to put letters together. When you see it you'll understand what I mean. It gives a 'stage' for every child who is putting some letters down on paper for a word....
Abby - Marci, I did that today. I don't think my SS video is great, by a long shot, but I have everything else done but the analysis of the video, so I'm just going to use it. Time is running out!
bruppert - I bought the videos for me but will donate to the school after I become accomplished. LOL
Kelly M - Hi Abby - welcome!
Marci - in your reflection for entry 4, can you mention workshops you participated in but did not mention specifically in your writeup of accomplishments?
Kelly M - The monster test is now on the first page of the files. It's listed as "Developmental Spelling Test".
Donna - when writing up workshops you have attended, how specific do you need to be for student impact? I wrote how I was able to go back to the room and do foolow up experiments to clarify science concepts after an assembly. Is that enough evidence or should I elaborate if I have room?
Lynn (MS) - Your reflection shouldn't have anything new. The assessorisn't documenting accomplishments anymore, just checking for the "fit" amd your analysis. best to put it in somewhere before you reflect on it!
Kelly M - Marci - I'd probably stick to things I had included...but that's just me.
bruppert - Kelly, you are multi-tasking this computer stuff good girl!!
Kelly M - Donna - student impact is everything! be very specific!
Kelly M - Hi Lynn - welcome!
Kelly M - bruppert - LOL....I just try to keep up!
Marci - that's why I ask, you all are the best source of information, without this ring I would have practically nothing done
Lynn (MS) - Donna, let the assessor know how it affected the children when you took it back to the classroom. That makes it really tight.
Becca - Well I seem to be having difficulty. I'm going to head back to work! Thanks everybody!
Donna - This ring is a lifesaver. I have taught 30 years and am learning soo much from this process.
Donna - So, discuss the experiments we did and how it led to further experiments/questions?
Kelly - LOL...of course I was trying to keep up and the screen went blank!
Kelly - Hi Kim - how are you!
Kim - Good- just remembered today was chat day!
Abby - When entry 4 is assessed, if you have several really strong accomplishments with good documentation, and have one that is just so-so...will the one that's not so hot bring the score down for the others? Am trying to decide whether to include one or not.
Marci - how far back do you recommend when writing up what came before in the ss entry? I started out with celebrations around the world in Dec. and we are finishing up with Chinese New Year which is my largest most comprehensive unit (about 3 - 4wee ks of info). Should I just mention the beginning and then focus my writing on the Chinese New Year section of the unit?
Kim - I am a banker and am really exhausted thinking about what I need to finish up.
Kelly - Abby - you do not lose points for anything. You gain as each piece of evidenced is recorded. Nothing takes away.
Abby - That's good to know.
Marci - also is it okay to include as an instructional goal for the video was problem solving since I wanted the children to come up with a way to demonstrate they understood some of the customs of Chinese New Year?
Lynn (MS) - Abby, unfortunately, that could very well be the case! It's something we had to deal with in assessing, so when I wrote upmy entry 4 for this year, if I felt that really ahd to stretch or had some holes, I left those off ... who knows, but that's my take.
Kelly - Marci - I would mention the the tie in to the previous unit. Some folks put in a VERY brief explanation of the yearlong course of study if it all seems to progress....but I don't think that's necessary. BUT...I haven't read the new directions closely enough to be able to say if they ask you to talk about yearlong or not...so PLEASE check those directions!
Donna - I found the scoring guide to be very useful. It tells you exactly what the assessors will be looking for.
Lynn (MS) - oops. I guess I didn't agree with Kelly! But, the assessor looks at the overall picture and goes from there.
Monika - do you have to show math in science video like you are expected to do with art & SS?
Kelly - Lynn- I'm intersted in your take on that. It was my understanding that points were never deducted.......only added. So if I had come up short it was because they didn't find something in there. Of course, in something like science if you clearly show a misconception as part of your instruction...that's different. But in Entry 4 I thought it was all add-ons....
Lynn (MS) - This thing is kind of dangerous! I'll try to curb my first impressions and lurk a little more! Sorry if I confused anyone with my answer about entry 4.
Marci - I guess I need to know if it's okay to have a goal that is not ss related. I wanted the children to pick what they wanted to use to show knowledge and I wanted them to problem solve as a group without my dictating the direction
Donna - Marci, wouldn't that show community if they are discussing/listening to each other?
Marci - that's part of my community building. but can it be an instructional goal too?
sue - marci- for entry 3 you should have other goals that are not ss related. you need to have social and arts goals.
Kelly - Monika - Yes...you have to have math in the science entry...not just added in there, but something that helps you convey the science concept you are presenting. Lynn- PLEASE don't lurk! I'm asking because YOU have better knowledge about that than I do! I just know what I've been told.....I have never assessed! So I would defer to YOUR opinion! Please keep giving it to us!
Kelly - Hi jeff - welcome!
Marci - sue, I do have other goals too, I am incorporating music, dance and painting into the unit and the social skills are turn taking, respect for one another, listening, etc.
jeff - Thanks, Donna where did you get the scoring guide?
sue - marci- ok, guess I misunderstood your question
Monika - kelly - but does it HAVE to be done in the video (the more I think of it, they WILL be measuring plants constantly)
Marci - no problem. I just am unsure of the instructional goal portion.
Donna - Jeff, it's on the NBPTS site, under Candidate 2002-03
Lynn (MS) - Kelly, The points are not deducted, but we didn't give points. We took notes on what was in the narrative and decided on the fit, using terms given by Nat brds,. Then we went back and assigned the score according to the overall picture. Ikind of feel like someone else was saying "writing and trying, but not saying what you mean".
jeff - Thanks, Donna I can get lost at that web site!
Donna - me too-just keep looking. I had to search, but it IS there
Kelly - Lynn - yes, thanks! I appreciate you clarifying that for us!
Lynn (MS) - You are so welcome, but giving advise on this is so scary. I'd hate to screw someone up!
Marci - sorry to go back to the same question but . . . can my instructional goal be something not mentioned as a ss goal, social skills goal or the arts goals? I am very confused about that. The purpose of my video was for the children to put us in the direction they wanted to go with our study of Chinese New Year so I'm not sure what the instructional goal would be. Maybe I should just do a different videotape??
Kelly - Lynn - that's why everyone has to take what they hear and decide for themselves!
Marci - we worked off a KWL chart so I knew they would go in the direction I wanted that would incorporate the arts
Kelly - Marci - remember that whatever goal(s) you use you have to keep everything tight. Those goals need to be followed by activities to lead the children there...and that has to be followed by assessment. I think it's very hard to do that with all three goals (ss/arts/community)........I sure wouldn't add anything else!
Abby - Marci, If it isn't something they ask for, I wouldn't include it. I had someone tell me last week not to make it harder than it really is.
Marci - also for my instructional materials can I use pictures of the kids making the dragon costumes, in the parade, making food related to the holiday or is that photo overkill?
bruppert - well girls, gotta go!
Donna - Bye, bruppert
Kelly - bye bruppert! talk to you later!
Lynn (MS) - I guess I'd better go and make some use of the insight I've gotten today ... before I forget it! I'm assuming that the chat archives ya'll have been talking about are at this website?
Abby - Thanks, all, for your help. It's back to analysis time. I may need analysis before this is over!
Donna - Abby, either us or our neglected families!
Kelly - Lynn - yes - archives are listed on the website homepage (www.teachers.net) .
Donna - guess I'd better go revise something!!
