Kathleen
- HI vee, I'm checking in to see if there are any chatters wishing to discuss
NBPTS certification. Are you a candidate?
Vee - No, acutually
I'm certified MC-GEN. I thought I might could answer some ?s.
Kathleen - Do you
know about the msessage boards here for NBPTS and the e-mail discussion
groups?
Vee - No. I belong
to an egroups list.
Kathleen - Message
board: http://teachers.net/mentors/es-gen Kathleen - E-mail
discussion groups: http://teachers.net/mailrings Kathleen - EC-Gen
meets on Saturdays at 4pmE right here
Kathleen - Isabell,
Hi! Are you interested in NBPTS or perhaps already certified?
Vee - Hi Isbell.
Are you a candidate?
Isabell - Haven't
had time to apply, but think I will eventually.
Kathleen - Vee, Isabell
is co-author of Kid Writing, a VERY successful resource for teachers of
young children
Isabell - I'd like
to get more info on it.
Vee - Oh! I'm doing
a workshop soon on writing. I don't have your book. Who published it?
Kathleen - Isabell,
Vee is certified and came here tonight just to help anyone interested or
working toward cert. Every one I know who is connected with NBPTS is very
generous and helpful, supportive of teaching colleagues
Isabell - My favorite
publishers - The Wright Group!
Vee - I'll be glad
to answer any questions you have. I'll order your book!
Isabell - Right now
I have quite a bit on my plate - but I know that this is an important next
step for me.
Vee - I have 2 masters
degrees, but NBC is the best thing I've done.
Isabell - Vee, was
the test difficult?
Kathleen - Vee, I
admire your commitment and enthusiasm, and the fact that you came tonight
to help others
Vee - My certification
in in Middle Childhood, but I teach 2nd grade. It was hard, but doable.
Kathleen - I have
to work on a project, I'll check back later. Isabell, consider coming here
some Saturday at 4pmE when the early childhood nat'l boards people chat.
Vee - Thanks, Kathleen.
Isabell - I agree
with Kathleen. You are to be commended!
Vee - I appreciate
that, but once you've completed certification you feel almost responsible
to others.
Isabell - I know
what you mean, Vee. I feel a moral responsibility to work with as many
teachers as possible. Thereby affecting children beyond my own classroom.
Vee - Do you have
any more questions I can answer?
Isabell - Just one.
But a big one. What do you see as the advantages to having this certification?
Kathleen - I have
to duck out now, thanks Vee and Isabell!
Vee - The process
really focuses on what you do in your classroom. I learned to reflect &
analyze my practice. Also, I live in Alabama. We are always criticized.
NBC gave me an opportunity to compare my practice against National Standards.
That was important to me. I've had a lot of opp. since earning cert.
Vee - Next year I'll
be working as a Special Services Teacher for the State Dept.
Isabell - So this
was a boost to your professional growth.
Vee - Absolutely.
Vee - I probably
won't ever teach science the same way. I learned a lot as I went through
the process.
Isabell - That's
wonderful! I will definitely be interested. But I'm now in school for my
reading certification. In addition to working full time and doing seminars
with parents and teachers.
Vee - Sounds like
you're busy. I was teaching college reading and 2nd grade while I worked
on NBC.
Isabell - Thanks
for the information. I may get back in touch with you, if I may, when I'm
ready to pursue it.
Vee - Please do.
I'll be glad to help! My email address is yrikard@hotmail.com Isabell - You pulled
it off and you've also got a lot going on. Congratulations!
Vee - I'm anxious
to read your book!
Isabell - If you'd
like more info about it, you can go to the Wright Group's web site.
Vee - Good idea!
I will. Can I order from there?
Isabell - You'll
get the ordering information there, but you'll have to call.
Vee - OK, Thanks.
Vee - Thank you.
I enjoyed meeting you.
