box in Dec. and had to mail the end of May
Les - You can't do
it in any less time, and you're given 3 yrs. to qualify
moly - when I fill
out application, do I send $300. ?
Suzette - I'm in
Mississippi and they pay our $2000 and we get a $6000 bonus for 10 years
when we certify
moly - did you find
portfolio difficult?
Suzette - Portfolio
was NOT difficult. VERY time consuming and nit-picky.

jj - I am doing MC
Generalist.
Les - I agree, very
time consuming to do at the same time you're teaching.
Suzette - JJ do you
have your box, waiting for assessment center or what stage are you in?
moly - I am in Florida,
not sure of anyone else around me who is appling for cert.
jj - I was in Durant
just last weekend. I live in Ok. and they will be sending in all our apps
at the same time. Not for a couple of months. I have seen the box but I
don't have mine yet.
moly - jj, did you
send in the money in order to receive the box?
Suzette - Only one
teacher in our school is certified (high school English). Most of our teachers
have had 20 years teaching and don't want to WORRY with the box. So I have
gotten NO support from school OR from my husband and children! It's been
a long six months.
jj - No, I have qualified
for funding by the state. They are paying my $2300 plus they will be giving
us $200 to help with costs.
jj - Moly, you do
have to pay the money first before you get the box.
moly - Suzette, that
is a similar situation for me, that is why I am a little hesitant
Suzette - Moly, you
or your school has to send ALL the money before you get your box.
Suzette - Moly, you
CAN do it. There are lots of web sites and chat rooms with others in our
shoes who UNDERSTAND.
Les - Just wait until
you send in the rest of the $, then the pressure starts.

Mississippi the state dept of ed pays the ENTIRE $2000 fee, so we are ALL
subsidized. What state are you in? Each state is different.
Suzette - JJ, I'm
a vocational candidate. Can you think of ways YOU could use technology
in your K classroom?
jj - Testing this
next year has gone up to $2300.
Suzette - WOW $2300.
That's your whole saving account if you have to pay yourself!

the retest fee gone up also if you have to retake a section?
jj - Suzette, I teach
3rd grade. I love using the internet with my class. I have to admit using
one computer is not a great way to use it. We are getting new computers
in our computer lab so it will be a lot easier to do research and word
processing for the whole class. Do you have any suggestions?
jj - I'm not sure.
No one said that it did.
Suzette - JJ, all
ages love their own pictures. Buy a digital camera and make photos all
year and print a digital photo album at the end of the year. You can take
them on field trips, etc. There are also lots of E-pals (classrooms that
will e-mail with you each week! Let them take turns with the microsoft
paint program to DRAW a picture, print and take home to hang on mom's frig!!!
