Aggieb(K) - I know! we worked on another one together and feel tht we could pull the infomation from there
Marcy - I just got done the AC on Wednesday. Did you guys go yet?
Aggieb(K) - I am not sure we will even apply ,, will decide on Monday
Aggieb(K) - Marcy,, congraatulations
Marcy - I'm not sure congrats are appropriate, but it does feel great!
sue - marcy- I go thursday
sue - I'm having a hard time seperating the strands. I'm so used to doing everything interwoven
bruppert - Marcy I go on Fri.am
Marcy - I logged on to this meeting last week and it really helped me to calm down. I wanted anyone to know who is going that it is FAIR.
sue - bruppert- good luck!
Aggieb(K) - and I am left all alone :<(
sue - I guess for ss I'll jut relate everything back to community.
sue - aggie- why did you choose so late in the summer?
bruppert - Aggie, I will bug you
sue - here's the stuff from our 3rd grade ss book-- communities, people in communities
Aggieb(K) - I hurt my wrist and I am still waiting for them to heal

sue - citizenship in the community, geography and how it affects community life, communities and cultures ( comparison)
Aggieb(K) - I need confidence.. I
sue - why bruppert?
bruppert - Me too AGGie
sue - aggie- is the wrist better?
sue - aggie- did you read the article I sent on play. It has some good basis things
bruppert - Sue, I do not feel like I know everything for all six
Patrice in KY - Hey, gang..just popping in for a bit. How is life treating you all?
sue - hey patrice
Marcy - My advice would be to go back and reread the standards (yea I know, AGAIN). I think I over studied and it really didn't help. The AC is fair and it did not seem to me to that they wanted to trick you. I think you will be pleasently surprised. I know how I felt this time last week.
Aggieb(K) - Nope but I am dealing with the pain,
sue - bruppert- you don't need to ace all of them!
bruppert - I am planning to reread the standards again
Aggieb(K) - Sue,, I read everything you send to me.. trust me I do
Patrice in KY - Hi Sue....you are headed to AC soon, are you not?
sue - I took the standards and make my own list of what each response should include in all areas
bruppert - well I feel good about literacy because I teach first grade, but the others I don't have the confidence with
sue - aggie!!!
Marcy - That is what I did.
sue - patrice-yes! thursday am
bruppert - Sue that is a good idea maybe I will do that too
Patrice in KY - bruppert, just pull on what you do in class. That is the biggie.
sue - I think someone is trying to tell my study partner and I something
bruppert - I will pull on that for sure
sue - she messed up her first application, she picked up another 3 weeks after I sent mine in... her candidate number is 1 different from mine!
sue - she had to have accomodations becuase she's LD. They scheduled the appointment.
Aggieb(K) - Wow.. amazing with all the people applying
sue - Same time, same place, same day as mine!!!!
sue - patrice- are you done??
bruppert - are you happy with this ,sue?
Patrice in KY - yes....I am a living and breathing CIW
sue - ( sue bows and curtsied to the computer screen) congrats!
Aggieb(K) - Will I ever get there,, it seems so far away yet so close
sue - bruppert- no problem with it. just amazed. we've been " joined at the hip" for the last 12 yrs according to ours husbands anyway LOL!
Patrice in KY - LOL I have never gotten a bow before!!!!!
Patrice in KY - aggie, you are close enough to taste it now, girl
sue - patrice-- I'd give you a standing ovation but my foot's asleep LOL!
Patrice in KY - LOL
Marcy - Hi, Sarah, Hi Jan!
sue - the only areas I'm not comfortable with are social studies and PE.
Aggieb(K) - Patrice,, I know I am just getting cold feet.. I feel like I am heading for the altar.
sue - I know nothing about big kids other than I don't want to teach them!!!
Patrice in KY - Would that be wedding alter or sacrifcial alter, Aggie?????
Aggieb(K) - Sue,, I am teaching sixth grade this summer. I went from K to 6
Connie - Sue. you get a big amen to that one. I don't want to teach them either.
sue - this is what I'm doing for pe. brainstorming ideas that cover the four areas of p.e.-- body awareness, static and dynamic balance and eye/hand/ft coordination.
bruppert - hello Connie and Sarah!
Marcy - Yea, at least at for your wedding you get a nice dress...
sue - aggie- I'll send you a sympathy card. raging hormones with legs I don't need!!!
Patrice in KY - Now, friends...I have K now but taught all the way up through 6th. They really are all just the same.
bruppert - AGGie, do you like it?
bruppert - One summer I taught 4/5 the graders and they were great
sue - patrice- not at my school. we have such a high retention rate and speced pop 6th graders are 14 an15!
Aggieb(K) - yes,, I really do.
sue - back to ss-- then I matched the ideas to commom themes in the grade level. think I'm on track?
bruppert - sue are you the one that gave us the play scenerios?
sue - bruppert- yes
Patrice in KY - yikes!! Before long you all might need parking available for your students, sue!!!!
Aggieb(K) - Sue.. you are on track
Connie - I"m having trouble getting ideas for inquiry science...any thoughts on matter activities?
sue - patrice- unfortunately we had a 5th grade leave last yr to deliver her baby !
Patrice in KY - Oh MY!!
sue - connie- just think of the properties of matter-- liquid/solids/ gases
Marcy - Connie, are you talking about the AC?
Connie - yes, ac
sue - what could you do with the little ones to experiment?
Patrice in KY - Connie, there are some TERRIFIC inquiry activities on matter. Have you searched the net, checked AIMS, etc.
sue - bruppert- want more play scenarios?
bruppert - sure sue!! I am weak with that for sure
sue - here's one- what liquid substances can you combine to make a solid?
laura - for science, I thought we would get a topic and then we must be able to apply a big idea to it...am I correct
Connie - yes, ac
Patrice in KY - Is everyone here AC bound or do we have any Newbies?
Connie - AC on July 10
sue - here ya go--- St= STUDENT t= teacher
Aggieb(K) - See you there Connie
laura - I'm AC bound on Tues 25th
bruppert - Connie you could do a word search in EC_GEn messages and they have great ideas too
Marcy - CIW (that is the first time I wrote that)
Sarah - Just completed registration for NB and sent it in
laura - yeah Marcy
bruppert - Laura, you are right
Marcy - Way to go, Sarah! Welcome!
Patrice in KY - Got your seat belt on, Sarah?
sue - st is playing in House area.fixes a plate of play food. Goes to the Art area. writes squiggles on paper and tapes sign to edge of table. Goes to S2 " You want pizza?
laura - I'm thinking that we should be able to apply a health/safety issue for 3rd grade not so much pe...what does everyone else think?
bruppert - Sarah, you are in for the ride of your life in teaching!! sort of like a roller coaster
sue - great sarah- welcome to the zoo
Sarah - HA! I am now thinking I am nuts!
Aggieb(K) - laura what health and safety issues do you think might be covered
Marcy - Don't let us scare you, it will be a wonderful/horrible time, but you WILL live to tell the tale
sue - S2- walks to table pretends to eat. " I want pepperoni". S1- $4.00 please. S1 then goes to T with clipboard and asks for order. T responds " Pepperoni". S1 writes P on paper. Pts to S2 " Pay her please".
Sarah - The video I have is integrating math and science in 15 minutes!
Patrice in KY - If you aren't nuts now, Sarah, there is a good chance you will be at some point and time....but you will NEVER regret this trek.
Aggieb(K) - Bicycle,, all kids ride bikes,, water,, a
laura - anyone willing to answer my last ?...just want to try to figure out with a few days left to study
sue - health issues for 3rd grade pe-- from national and state standards coming up!
sue - brb
Patrice in KY - laura, your best bet is to be prepared to go either direction...I know that doesn't help much, but the question could go anywhere.
Marcy - I'm sorry Laura, I am not ignoring you. I just can't say anything except the test is fair....
Kelly M - Hi everybody!
Patrice in KY - Hi, Kelly...happy Saturday
Marcy - Hi Kelly
bruppert - Hi Kelly M
laura - not sure...community environmental health,,alcohol and drug awareness...injury prevention...fire safety...family health
sue - family life/ roles; nutrition and heart health/ safety issues ( remember to relate it to your kids)/basic safety and first aid
laura - nutrition...personal health...am I on the right track....Hi Kelly
Patrice in KY - Sarah, what is your schedule for your NB work.
bruppert - sue what is brb
sue - communicable diseases are optional
Patrice in KY - "be right back"
Marcy - Sounds like you would be prepared to me
Sarah - Portfolio will be due March 15
sue - hey kelly! was just going to email you
Sarah - My students return to school Aug 1
sue - be right back
sue - sarah- where are you from?
Kelly M - I'm here - life is crazy, but I'm here for a few minutes! What's up, Sue?
Patrice in KY - Sarah, have you started pulling together your entry 4 any?
Sarah - Yes. I am getting the artifacts, examples, etc now
Marcy - Sarah, did you say you have a video already?
sue - kelly- I found 2 ERIC digests while doing research for another grant that I think would be helpful for everyone. Want to put them in the files?
Patrice in KY - Do you have video equipment available?
Kelly M - Hi Jeanne - can we help you today?
sue - i jeanne
Kelly M - Sue - send them to me!
Sarah - No. I copied the portfolio for EC Gen online. Went to classes for a week last week for NB. Started pulling #4 together and planning year
Jeanne - Hi, I'm a banker taking the AC again on Wed.
Sarah - I found a Sony digital for the video.
sue - kelly- will do.. also the home page for ERIC on reading with lots of info-- strategies galore
laura - I can't get in the files...I have tried over and over again...what could I be doing wrong?
Marcy - You have classes. Are they from your state or from your school district?
sue - jeanne- what are you retaking?
Therese - Hi Jeanne...is that you?
Sarah - Yes. Bank of America in AZ offers a scholarship. YOu have to apply and be accepted. I was one of the lucky ones. They will pay half
Jeanne - I'm retaking constructing curriculum and analyzing work samples
Kelly M - Laura - you have to go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EC_GEN/ and then look at the list on the left. Click on Files.
Jeanne - Hi Therese
Marcy - That is wonderful. What a great leg up!
Patrice in KY - laura, you have to be registered with Yahoo. When you pull up the EC-Gen site does the corner list you as a guest?
Kelly M - Hi Therese - Can we help you? Jeanne - have you planned out for all the strands?
Therese - Jeanne, are you getting nervous?
laura - I have tried that...I will try again....Patrice thanks I have registered many times...the site recognizes me...
sue - they revamped the scholarship process for our state this yr-- lots tougher
bruppert - Sue, thanks for the play scenerio? CAn I write to you and comment on it to get a feel for it?
Jeanne - Therese, I'm trying to stay focused and just remain calm. How about you?
Therese - Been online all day. Need to focus on studying now!
sue - Jeanne- I test thursday. I can feel the tension building in my shoulders already
bruppert - sue I went to the ERIC site today too
Jeanne - I took some practice tests and have been reviewing the standards again.
Jeanne - Good luck Sue!
sue - bruppert- did you like it?
sue - jeanne- thanks!
Therese - I printed out the notes from Kelly. I'll be reading them tonight.
Jeanne - I have her notes too. I found them helpful.
bruppert - sue, yes I liked it but not knowing much about play I am not sure what to say to be honest
Marcy - They were helpful. It was very kind of you to share them. Thanks again
Sarah - Nice to meet you guys. Good luck to those who are going to the assessment center. See y'all next week.
sue - bruppert- what grade are you?
laura - Therese besides trying to get to the site...is there another way I could get some of the notes or recommended readings
Patrice in KY - See you on the ring, Sarah. Bye
Kelly M - Those notes came from Kelly B. I put them in the files....but I didn't write them! They were from a study group of hers.
Marcy - Well thanks for uploading them
Kelly M - Please don't respond to anyone except for EC-GEN questions for a while.... Thanks.
Kelly M - Sarah - are you on our mailring?
Marcy - Well, I am going to log off. Best wishes to anyone going to AC this week.
Therese - laura, I got the notes from the Yahoo.com site
Kelly M - Laura - write to me and I'll help you get back into the Files. We can work it out!
sue - thanks marcy
Kelly M - Bye Marcy!
laura - thanks Kelly I will do that, I'd appreciate the help...I'm going to log off for awhile to study (test date Tues. (25th)
Patrice in KY - Does anyone know how the scheduling will be done for bankers next year with the new set up in place?
Jeanne - Therese are you retaking constructing curriculum? I couldn't remember what you said.
Kelly M - Aggieb - when is your test date? I'm thinking you have postponed it until July, right?
sue - bruppert- when do you test?
Aggieb(K) - kelly I am going the 10th
Kelly M - Hi prettydr - can we help you?
prettydr - thanks Patrice
Therese - Jeanne, that's the one I passed! I can't remember what it was though...
prettydr - I test on Monday..................
prettydr - sure you can help me......................
sue - therese- you banked, too?
bruppert - sue, I test this Friday and I am a bit nervous but ready to get on in my life
prettydr - I had to take today off and just relax
Therese - Yes, I'm a banker. I had to do 2 portfolios over and 3 AC again.
prettydr - So I'll be up late tonight reviewing.....
Jeanne - Therese are we still on for studying Monday?
Kelly M - Patrice - I think (but am not sure) that the bankers next year will still test on the same schedule that they had before. That's been what they've done before....
sue - bruppert-- here's some play notes for you
bruppert - good luck Therese, when do you go?
Therese - I hope so. I'm counting on it. Maybe we can help each other with our notes.
Jeanne - Sounds good, I'm putting everything together tonight.
Therese - I test this WEd. with Jeanne
Patrice in KY - Thanks, Kelly. I was just wondering, since the assessment is so much more flexibly scheduled now.
prettydr - I studied with my partner this week and it really helped a lot
Jeanne - prettydr, it's very helpful to have someone to study with.
Therese - Any words of wisdom for Jeanne and Me?
prettydr - No words of wisdom for all of us
Patrice in KY - I am going to scoot. Much luck to you all who assess this week.....good thoughts are flooded your way. Bye all.
laura - you've got that right prettydr
bruppert - bye Patrice and thanks
prettydr - laura thanks
Therese - Jeanne, I'll see you on Monday!
sue - got it!
Jeanne - Sounds good Therese, good luck studying!
Therese - Does this end at 5?
laura - Prettydr good luck to you on Monday, I test Tues.
prettydr - laura thanks
Therese - Good luck studying to you to, Jeanne!
prettydr - once again
Kelly M - Therese - we can stay as long as we like. I think there is another chat later on tonight.
sue - kelly- realistically how long did you study for the AC?
Jeanne - Did you find any helpful sites Therese
bruppert - Has anyone ever been to the chat at 9pm?
Therese - I haven't had time to look much with report cards and other things due at work.
Kelly M - Sue - I studied for a while...but then again, I was under the old generation with 90 minutes for each exercise.
Jeanne - I'm going to search tonight. I'll call you tomorrow if I find anything good.
sue - I keep thinking that at 30 minutes we won't have time for a lot of details
Therese - Kelly, obviously you're a NBCT. Can us bankers take our books into the AC?
bruppert - Kelly did you have 4 subtopics or all six like we do?
Jeanne - Is anybody else a banker?
Aggieb(K) - I think all we have time to do is just "answer the questions" No fluff
Kelly M - Hi Sonja - how are you today? Can we help you?
sue - clear and concise
Kelly M - Therese - yes, bankers are allowed to take in notes that are handwritten into an originally bound Standards Book or an originally bound AC booklet.
Therese - When I did it last year, that clock was ticking mighty fast. I had to think quickly.
sue - my body is starting to feel the stress. just had to put fleaxall on the shoulders
prettydr - I can't seem to relax
prettydr - or laugh
Sonja(KY) - I finished up in Apr. Tested in Apr.
Kelly M - bruppert - we had four exercises - 90 minutes each. We were there all day.
Therese - Although I might be a bit nervous, I don't need to do this for anyone but myself so perhaps I'll be a bit relaxed!
teacher jo - hello, I was so busy reading over my AC notes (I test Monday) i forgot to log on
Kelly M - Hi teacher jo - how are you today?
prettydr - teacher jo I test Monday as well
Sonja(KY) - Try your best and know your area.
Jeanne - Kelly, any advice for us bankers?
Kelly M - Sonja - what area are you in?
Aggieb(K) - I think if we know what is expected of us from reading the quesion in the response book it might help when we test so we don't have to struggle with that
teacher jo - I am fine thanks....well considering....why do we stress so much?
Kelly M - Therese - that's a great attitude! I think relaxing really DOES help....
Sonja(KY) - early adolesence soc st/history]
prettydr - we stress because we want to get it right......
sue - tomorrow is the prayer maze, monday is the movies, tuesday is my favorite meal and wed is a bubble bath!
Therese - I don't want to do this again but I will if I have too. I'm pretty determined.
prettydr - WOW Sue......................have fun!
prettydr - Well today was shopping and a movie
sue - I will be relaxed for Thursday morning
prettydr - tomorrow I will review a little and relax
prettydr - Monday I will test
teacher jo - I read that to really open up our brain we need to relax. I have started to start forcing myself to relax and tell myself that we do KNOW this stuff!!!
Kelly M - Jeanne - go over the notes in the files. Review the standards. That's about it! If you're doing the math piece, then plan through each strand. Think of misconceptions for science. Pretty much the same things everyone has been saying!
sue - the night before my comps for my masters, we had to call 911 for my husband. I took the test with 3 hrs sleep!
Sonja(KY) - NBPTS was the most traumatizing and rewarding time in my 18 years. It really made me look at my teaching. the kids want to know if we pass.
Jeanne - That's been my focus. I think the last time I went off on tangents. I need to try to stay clear and concise with my answers.
prettydr - I was so tired from staying up and studying I feel asleep in the movies
Kelly M - I think it really helps if you take the simulation on the nbpts site. It gets you prepared for what to expect.
Sonja(KY) - No, cotton candy answers.
sue - kelly- I was having problems with the sim-- totally skipped one question !
bruppert - prettydr, what grade do you teach?
Aggieb(K) - wouldn't it be great if the web site allowed you to type in your own questions for practive
prettydr - I have been first and kindergarten.....I got a new position for next year
prettydr - I'm really excited about that but can't be for this AC hanging over me
Sonja(KY) - Don't u have to score 270 total for passing.
Kelly M - Aggieb - I think the simulation has been worthwhile....at least several people have reported that!
sue - aggie- Actually in response to the sim question about the catered affair, I typed in a science idea I had!!
Therese - I thought it was 275 total score.
Kelly M - Sonja - You need to earn a total of 275 points.
Aggieb(K) - how can uncertifed teachers, assess the ac questions and then apply in the future
Sonja(KY) - Ok I'll find out in dec.
sue - 275 is the magic number
Aggieb(K) - Therese, we should not have to go into theories this year,, only to analyze the scenario,, I hope
Kelly M - AggieB - that is true now....but won't be soon. At first there have not been enough NBCTs willing to do it....but that will change as the process gets smoother. I think within a couple of years assessing will happen online. That will allow MANY more to do it.
erin - I teach second grade every morning (different teacher in afternoon) then I push in and teach science and math in a different school in pm--NY
Sonja(KY) - Hw many times are the portfolios and tapes scored by assessors?
sue - I thought it was 3
Kelly M - Sonja - this year everything will be double scored. If the 2 are too far apart, the person in charge of the room reads it, too.
Therese - I'm not sure what to expect. I hope that my instincts and the info I've studied will guide me.
Kelly M - It's a really well set-up process. They've been through all the stats about what it is they have to do to be valid and reliable.
Sonja(KY) - More objective!!
Jeanne - Does anyone know the percentages of people who pass or bank on the first try?
Aggieb(K) - by now my science has passed or failed.. Something to think about
Therese - Science was the hardest for me. I hope that I dont' have to do it a third time!
sue - science I was comfortable with. two NBCT's read it and were impressed, not that that means it'll score well!
Kelly M - Jeanne - every year people try to figure that out. But truthfully, it does change every year! With the new generation it will change once again!
Sonja(KY) - I don't know. If I have to bank, I'll bank. Try it again.
Therese - Sue, it sounds like it will. Don't stress over it.
Jeanne - Thanks Kelly, I was just wondering.
Aggieb(K) - how many people applied this year, are the stats out
prettydr - Well, if it wasn't for an NBCT reading my portfolio I would been up a creek big time
Kelly M - Jeanne - no problem!...everyone always wants to know! I think it's holding between 40-50% though.
sue - therese- I basically want this to be over with
teacher jo - My AC question is about our answers; I know I am to relate everything to our EC-Gen standards but is that really possible with every question?
sue - between now and the end of July I have 3 major reports, 1 major grant, 3 small grants and 2 workkshops to present!
Therese - Sue, I'm with you on that one!
Aggieb(K) - I can imagine the passing rate on this ring is pretty high.. wish we had stats on that
Kelly M - teacher jo - it should be possible with everything you do in teaching!
sue - jo- yes. what I did was reread the standards and make sure my responses touched on the high points
sue - jo- you do more than you think you do
teacher jo - Thanks....I will try!
Aggieb(K) - I have to go,, thanks to every one
sue - bye aggie- check your email later
Kelly M - Aggieb - we tried to get some stats on that...but many people did not respond to the poll....and the way yahoogroups had the poll set up it really didn't work well at all!
Jeanne - I'm off too. Thanks for all of your advice. Therese, I'll see you Monday! Good Luck everyone!
Kelly M - I need to go, too. Good luck everybody! See you on the ring!
Therese - I'm signing off to go study. Thanks to all and good luck. We'll get though this somehow!
sue - bye all have some paperwork to do
prettydr - so everybody leaving huh?
prettydr - I guess so
teacher jo - yes, I guess I better get back to the "final" read over before the AC...see you!
bruppert - well if everyone is leaving I can go and fix dinner for the gang. good luck to everyone this week in testing
teacher jo - thanks!
