Lynn - How far are you in this process
Susan (NC) - Are you a CIW?
Lynn - I test on Monday. I am terrified
Susan (NC) - Last year I was a banker- redid 1 AC and 2 portfolio's-
Lynn - How about you
Susan (NC) - But remember; I did it with the OLD rules...
Lynn - I am so scared of only 30 min.
Susan (NC) - Guess I'll find out Nov. like everyone else-
Lynn - What was the hardest part? When you look back?
Susan (NC) - 30 minutes doesn't give you any time to think much less writee............have you talked to anyone else who did it the new generation?
Lynn - YEs and their advice was to cram Not to take it for granted.
Susan (NC) - I would have to say the hardest part was going back through the screens.......take good notes and you won't have to.
Lynn - I have read teacher manuals of 3rd gr. cover to cover
Lynn - What do you mean going back thru the screens
Susan (NC) - Anyway, good luck with your test on Monday!
Susan (NC) - When I took the AC the prompts were given on the screen (monitor) and each part had several questions- that is what made it difficult - making sure you answered each part-
Susan (NC) - does that last thing make sense?
Lynn - YEs. I remeber comments from others that say that on the ring
Lynn - Some say you don't have time but I'd rather take the time and answer all
Susan (NC) - I'm not on the EC ring anymore; just the "bankers"-
Susan (NC) - What grade do you teach?
Susan (NC) - Also, where do you teach, forgot to ask that............
Lynn - This is the first time I have felt down about the process. I can't imagine being able to say all I want in 30 min. Recalling it that quickly is what I mean.
Lynn - I teach a multiage K, 1, and 2

Susan (NC) - I'm a K-5 reading teacher but have taught K, 2 and 4th in Florida before I moved to NC.
Susan (NC) - My parents and sister live in Homasassa.
Lynn - I am visiting an old HS friend in Hendersonville on Tuesday
Lynn - Have you already retested?
Susan (NC) - I imagine the recall would be very difficult.........like when watching "Jeparody" I usually could come wiath the right answer if they would give me enough timle-
Susan (NC) - I did my retest before school got out!
Lynn - My problem is I talk with my hands and sometimes have to explain a description when I can't recall the words I want to use. Hope I don't have to do tht onthe test.
Susan (NC) - I just came home from shopping in Asheville; very close to Hendersonville.........small world!
Susan (NC) - I wish I could help you more but I only know about the old NB process!
Lynn - How did you feel retaking test and entrie 2nd time around. Was it just as difficult
Lynn - Why do people say its what you do everyday?
Susan (NC) - I just did 1 part - so that was 90 minutes on 1 subject MATH - I did a lot of preparation ahead of time like writing notes on each math strand.........and YES - after it was over - I felt very good about it!!
Susan (NC) - I guess it is like what you do in your classroom everyday - BUT having said that, you & I are not regular classroom teachers with just 1 grade level.........It makes it harder!!
Lynn - I am looking forward to Monday night when I pack up all on my living room floor. It's occupied the room since last Aug.
Susan (NC) - I know what you mean! NB sure can make a mess of your house & your life!!
Lynn - How far along are you? All but the waiting?
KathySC - I have never been in a chat room before . I am taking a break from studying I takkkke my aya math test on monday !!! Can anyone give me some advice
Lynn - I test on Monday at noon. I cam here today for calmness and reassurance. I am thinking of drinking a bottle of wine.

Lynn - This is my first time at the ac so I don't know what to expect
Lynn - Everyone says it is exactly like the prompts. LOL. They are rather vague. At least from this perspective. Maybe Monday I will feel different

Carol (KY) - Well I am a CIW...taking apart the prompts and studying truly helped me stay focued.
KathySC - Whats a CIW?
Carol (KY) - Candidate In Waiting
Lynn - Studying what? Can't believe I am asking that?. Writing ogjectives and activities?
Carol (KY) - Reading over the standards and lokking how they apply to each prompt.
Lynn - I have read SS teacher manual cover to cover and have activities in my head for lots of themes. Is that helpful?
Carol (KY) - looking...just wanted you to know I can spell.
KathySC - I am studying discrete nath statistics and calculus
Lynn - When I read standards i feel comfortable that I do those things. How does that help me?
Carol (KY) - In the past chats Lynn others have stated that was helpful to them.
KathySC - Will it be like the Praxis?
Lynn - you are making me feel better.
Carol (KY) - O.K. now what is the Praxis?
KathySC - a test given to teachers to get certificatuion in certain states
Carol (KY) - Do any of you have mentors in your area?
KathySC - I can't spell
Lynn - We had mentors. Almost one to one from Jan. on. I had 3 active ones read my entries
KathySC - there ars 3 other math teachers at my school who certified but they were not that helpfull I was on my own
Carol (KY) - Have you already completed your portfolio? Some candidates have mentioned they were taking the assessment first?
Lynn - I feel very good about my entries. I might be disappointed and refuse to be over confident
Carol (KY) - I was on my own too!!!!!
KathySC - I have completed the portfoilio Ithink that part is okay I am afraid of this test
Lynn - I am terrified of this test. I have studied little today because I have amost been on the verge of tears all day. I NEVER felt that kind of defeat when I was working on the portfolios.
Carol (KY) - Well I felt the completion of the portfolio really help me prepare for the assessment.hope that makes you feel better.
Lynn - I have emailed several people and called several for support and noone is home today.
KathySC - What are prompts?
Lynn - I reread my entries last week. I felt they were strong still now as then
Carol (KY) - Did you receive an assessment booklet? The sample prompts are contained within this.
Lynn - Prompts-just the brief paragraph about literacy, play, math, ss, science andpe
Carol (KY) - That is what I was referring to.
KathySC - No I did not receive an assesment booklet with prompts
KathySC - Wher can I get some sample prompts?
Lynn - They are on the NB website and at EC Gen ring files
Carol (KY) - It is called an Assessment Center Orientation Booklet.
Lynn - Are you a member of EC Gen ring?
Carol (KY) - You can call and request to receive a hard copy.
KathySC - There were no prompts in it just a general overview of math topics that would be tested

KathySC - Adolescent and young adult Math
Lynn - At Yahoo groups you can join a specific e-mail ring. Ec Gen has been my emotional lifeline

Carol (KY) - 12...... I'm impressed with the 24!!!!
Lynn - I swear I'm not as old as that makes me sound!

Carol (KY) - Ha!!!! Didn't mean that... I just hope I continue to want to learn.... if that makes sense.
Lynn - Nb has made things fun again. I was slipping these last couple of years.
Lynn - Found myself wanting to take the easy way out and not be innovative and a leader. This was just the spark I needed.
Carol (KY) - yes thank goodness!!! Now I wish I could just settle my berves with the waiting.
Lynn - So you have tested?
Carol (KY) - sorry it's taking me so long my 2 year just woke and wants to go outside. gotta go this is his time!!!
