Patrice in KY - do all the k teachers do the home visits...did yo write the grant for this?
JanKWV - I wrote a grant through Title One
Patrice in KY - I have done my visits....16 of the 20 I could reach
JanKWV - good for you!
Patrice in KY - have three more tomorrow and that will nearly take care of it
Patrice in KY - that is going to be great for your entry 4
Patrice in KY - have you been explaining the NB process to your parents
JanKWV - I hope so.. my entry so far is too wordy.. so I put it aside for a few days and I am catching up on my reading..
Patrice in KY - do you have your permission slips ready to go
JanKWV - Not yet, I hope to do that at our back to school picnic on 8/22
JanKWV - I can't get to my copy machine till the 13th.. then I will be ready to copy all my forms...
Patrice in KY - I ran into wordiness on entry 4....by the time you write your last version you will hardly recognize it
Patrice in KY - how many students do you have this year
JanKWV - I bet.. I am also hoping to have some new accomplishments to add to it this fall.. Im waiting to hear about 3 other grants that I wrote this spring
JanKWV - At the present time, I have 20 enrolled. Our maximun is 23. How about you?
Patrice in KY - what do you use as your primary grant source/search
Patrice in KY - 20 now, our cap is 24
Patrice in KY - we start wednesday
JanKWV - Wow, that's early.. I try to write something for everything we get in the mail from our state, etc. I have not been successful with anything national yet like Toyota or NEA, but I will keep trying...
Patrice in KY - i am on a literacy task force this year....what kind of reading program do you all use
JanKWV - We use Scott Foresman.. but we can use it as a resource to do our guided reading, writing workshop, etc.
Ros - hi guys

Patrice in KY - Hey bruppert!
bruppert - Hey everyone. Not many online today must be a good day for the beach for everyone. LOL
Ros - hi bruppert
Patrice in KY - yes....afraid I am landlocked LOL
bruppert - WEll Patrice you are a CIW!! Does it feel good or what?
bruppert - Hi Ros!
Ros - where are ya from, bruppert
Patrice in KY - wonderful, bruppert! I am in the ignorance is bliss stage!!!!Are you not CIW?
bruppert - We are going to the beach on Monday for the week. I am ready too. I just finished summer school yesterday. I live in south of DC about an hour.
Ros - patrice- one of the kids took a swing at me and hugged me the next day
Patrice in KY - yikes!!!
Ros - he has asbergers disease
bruppert - Yes, CIW me too.
bruppert - you must be patient if a kid hits you for sure
Patrice in KY - i thought so, bruppert....isn't it wonderful to cruise for a bit?
Ros - he missed, thank god!
bruppert - what is this disease? I don't know of it.
Patrice in KY - I have had some situations like that in the past....no fun
Patrice in KY - it is a type of autism
Ros - it is a chemical imbalance that can make one completly unaware of how to react socially
bruppert - yes I am afraid I won't want to work if I have to bank as I like reading my own stuff and being with my family and exercising again. I gained too much weight working at the computer.
Patrice in KY - i start school this wednesday and plan on getting permission slips signed, just to be on the safe side.
Patrice in KY - hi Viv
bruppert - I think I may have heard of it...I do the inclusion class of ED students in my school
Viv - Hi, everyone. I'm running late today.
Ros - im thinking og eventually teaching hs bd kids- i just love history so much- im thinking that aep might be an option
bruppert - One of the kids in our summer school,I think he may have had it.
Patrice in KY - Viv,where are you in the NB process
Viv - I will recieve my box in October. I have my first wupport group meeting on the 19th. I have been working all summer . Downloaded the portfolio info. I teach first grade and loop with my class.
Patrice in KY - Viv, do you loop up from k or into 2nd
Ros - have a good one guys- enjoyed talking to you guys- have a great school yr!
Viv - I was curious if anyone had a plan as to which entries they will attack first. I am thinking Science, as I think it may be the toughest. I want to get it over with.
bruppert - Viv I teach first grade and I should have looped with my class they were the best, but the second grade teachers are s ort of locked in at my school
Viv - Patrice, I loop first to second. This year I have first. School starts Thrus.
bruppert - Viv, last year we worked on the Entry 4 first , then we did ss., science and literacy last
Viv - Bruppert, our 2nd grade teach had been together for 8 years and our principal finally shook things up a bit. She never regretted it.
Patrice in KY - Do you have your parent letter done, Viv, explaining the process?
Patrice in KY - Bruppert, did you do a letter or explain in person?
Viv - Oh, so that way everyone on line are on the same phase of the process. Makes sense! No, I don't have my letter ready, but I have a copy to go by.
bruppert - yesh some of the principals in our county did some shakeups, ours will do it soon I bet. But I love first and so I will be happy no matter what
bruppert - What I did with the letter was introduce the letter in person when we had conferences
Viv - Bruppert, I had been hoping for 2nd for several years and when I finally got there, I missed the neat things I do in first. It is such a special grade and unlike anyother. I have taught every grade. I have taught k-4 over the last 15 years.
Viv - Oops I have not taught everygrade. My hands are moving faster than my mind.????? LOL
Viv - Well, which entry was most challenging for any bankers out there?
bruppert - I also met with conferences as part of my Entry 4 alot sort of every 2-3 weeks with the parents to teach them how to work with their children. It worked with my slow group
Patrice in KY - company is here...gotta' scoot. Have a good week all. Bruppert...rest, relax and recharge.
bruppert - For me the hardest one was Entry 4 as I am not a boaster and I wasn't able to toot my own horn.
bruppert - I had to study for the science one and I found ss hard too, But I really enjoyed all of it as it was challenging and I was stimulated by others doing the same thing.
bruppert - I never missed this chat -- I learned so much from everyone too
Viv - OH I feel they same way. I am hoping my principal will toot it for me in her letter. I do a lot with Parent Workshops and I have led a few workshops. The leader part intimidates me a bit. What kinds of accomplishments are you using? I have been told to focus on two in each area.
bruppert - I focused on three accomplishment where many others had 10... I felt I could show student impact better if I just did the three one for each area.
Viv - Do you feel good about that. or do you wish you had done more? I think that is a big decision for me.
bruppert - I did what I did and I will find out what I did in Nov.
bruppert - It may not pass, but I was please with what I wrote and all.
Viv - Also, I am the only candidate at my school this year. We had two last year. They don't seem very interested in helping me though. Luckily I have several friends who will mentor me.
bruppert - I guess I am odd but If I pass then so be it, but I did learn so much all year that I am not going to worry with what I didn't do.. do you know what I mean?
Viv - That is a good attitude. I have heard many people say that they will not bank. If they don't make it the first time, then that is a done deal. I am not sure how I feel about that. I don't know enought about the process.
bruppert - I was the only one from my school but many in my district worked on it about 20 or so. I had one teacher at my school who had passed last year.
bruppert - It is hard to say... it is a personal thing. I understand how some say they will not bank. It is an intense process and you give so much of yourself in doing it.
Viv - Well in these last few minutes. I have two more questions. First, about how many hours per week did you work and what books were helpful to you?
bruppert - I don't know if I can find the recharger to keep working onit. Every year I get the tough group and doing the National Boards was hard to fit into my life and keep up with my class responsibilites.
bruppert - I had a schedule to work on it every day at least 2hours or so. where I read information from the EC-GEn yahoo group and I did research on things. Sat and Sunday I spent more time and I never missed the chat which was very valuable. I worked many mormings from 4or 5am to 7am.
Viv - I think it it so unfair that certain teachers get the tough groups. We have several teacher who always have the best well rounded classes and others who get very mixed, challenging students. OUr student's scores are tracked. It is easy to be a teacher who shines if you get all the top notch kids every year! I usually get a pretty good little group.
bruppert - The best books are Morning Meeting... it is a must to read and incorporate in your life
Viv - Wow, do you have children? I have three!!!! Yikes!
bruppert - my children are grown up... one 21 and theother one is 25
bruppert - Here
bruppert - Here is another great books-- Building the Primary Classroom or Doing what Scientist do.
Viv - I have heard a lot about morning meeting. My school was one of the National Schools for Character Ed. WE have been doing morning meeting for seven years and none of us have ever read the book. LOL A lot if our ideas for Character Ed have been published nationally without our permission too. Although I am positive that book was not a stolen ideas from us. We should have copyrighted everything.
bruppert - Pathways to Play and Pathways to the Science Standards
bruppert - Yeah our county got lots awards toward the Character EDucation we developed. It is good
bruppert - where do you live, Viv?
Viv - I am going to buy both of those. Well, I have to run. My husband will be here any second and I want to start dinner. Thanks for taking the time to chat with me. I really appreciate it and hope to chat again next week.
bruppert - yes you have fun. it is a wonderful journey getting involved in this. Bye and see you around.
Viv - Cocoa, Florida and it is hoooot here! Rains every evening and the mosquitoes are horrible. I am on the Spacecoast around an hour east of Orlando. Well, I have to go. Thanks again!!!!
