viv - hi, I am new and have a question.
viv - Today I had a mentor read my Doc. Accomplishment. It was about how I planned and implemented a Family Literacy Night that had four stations. I clearly stated the goals of the workshop and the student impact, but she felt that it did not have enough meat to it and was more like an outline. She felt that I should clearly describe each of the five learning stations at the workshop. In my intial writing, I only wrote two to four sentences about each station. I know you can't see for yourselves what I mean, but I thought I had met the standards and then would have more room for my other accomplishments. I have increased my Accomplishment One to 5 pages and it was only 3.
Kelly M - Hi viv - are you still here?
viv - hey I had to step out for a sec
Kelly M - About your doc. acc.....only you can make that final decision. It does need to be clear, concise, and convincing! And it definitely needs to show an impact on the students....so be sure to include that!
Kelly M - You might want to go ahead and write it up without a concern for the pages....then in the end as you are editing, etc., you can decide if you need to cut it some or add more. But for right now add in everything about it, so it's all there for you to cut down later!
Kelly M - Hi Melissa - welcome!
Melissa - Thanks for the welcome
viv - Thanks kelly and hello Melissa
Melissa - I'm actually a MC candidate but I though i might get some insight from this chat
Melissa - Kelly, are you the moderator?
Kelly M - Melissa, we don't have a formal format....but I guess the answer is yet - sort of !
viv - I have to go. My husband wants to go to Walmart!!!!! Great timing. One more question. I have chosen my students for LIt entry and I have two writing samples tht are about 9 weeks apart. They do have to be at least eight weeks apart, right? Well, I want to take the last sampe eight weeks from the last and get this entry over with quickly so I will have lots of time for readers to check over it andmake changes. Does that sound like a good plan?
Melissa - When did you certify? or are you a candidate yourself?
Kelly M - viv - I would suggest saving LOTS of writing samples so you have a lot from which to pick. And also, save them from more than two students....because you never know when someone might move! I don't have the new directions right here....but I think you need more than two samples for each...is that correct?
Kelly M - Melissa...is that question for me? I'm certified EC-GEN.
Melissa - Is there a MC chat?
liz - speaking of the writing samples..I initially thought the writing samples needed to show improvement but that is not it, right? The samples are simply to show what the child needs work on?
Kelly M - There is a chat later tonight...9:00 p.m. Eastern Time - for all candidates. But you are welcome here....it's just that we won't be familiar with your particular directions, etc.
viv - I thought it was just three from each child. I am photocopying and saving lots of samples from four students. I chose two low students and two gifted.
Kelly M - liz - you need to be able to analyze the writing samples that you use. You need to be able to talk about how they inform your instruction, etc.
liz - yes, 3 from each child
liz - yes, that is what I thought, thanks for comfirming
Kelly M - viv - you are probably right....as I said, I don't have the directions right in front of me....and the directions have changed since I did it. I have the new ones....but have only read through them once or twice!
viv - Yes Liz it does not have to show growth, but I am going to make sure that mine do and with most of my class, this would be the case anyway. We have to be able to analyze the samples and I am using some different rubrics from different books andprograms to help me with that part of it. Marie Clay stuff is great too.
liz - I wonder why in the reflection part they didn't ask for a sample there....
viv - I guess we have to remember to make sure we tell what the sample tells us and how that shapes what we do with that child in the future. I have just started this entry and am not as familiar with it as I should be yet.
liz - It seems like you are very limited with only giving 3 samples when we need to show integration of curr.
Kelly M - viv - make sure you answer the directions! That's one of the main things we hear from the folks who assess these entries!
liz - yes, I just started this one today....
viv - I am glad you brought up integration. Where in the entry will you discuss the themes that you do each month. It asks for the daily routines and activities that help promore literacy. Do I throw it in there?
Kelly M - Remember that you can write about other things that inform you about the child...assessments, anecdotals, etc. But the samples will need to back that up - or it did in the old directions!
liz - thats what I mean...only 3 samples...reading writing, math, social st., sci/ Where will it all fit?
bruppert - YOu are right Kelly, you do have to back it up
Kelly M - liz - select the ones that you think provide the best evidence!
liz - good idea....I must remember that
liz - This chat is wonderful...it really has helped me make sense of all the ambiguity!
Sassy - i am just going to die in one second, i have just gotten home from teaching saturday school
liz - You have Saturday school for elem age?
bruppert - for me too, liz!!
Sassy - Your right luz
bruppert - wow, how do you go on Sat as well as Monday-FRiday, where is this?
Sassy - yeah
SheliaB - I just got the "box" 2 days ago! LOL I didn't even open it until this morning.
SheliaB - My husband thought I had lost my mind.
liz - goodluckSheliaB
viv - I have another ? about LIt entry. I am writing about two students. How are you organizing it. Do you go straight through and answer all question in relation to one child you are focused on and then do it all again on the other? My daily routines and activities are the same, but I guess how the child responds to them and which ones were more effective come into play???? I am confused on this.
bruppert - SheliaB, I can relate, Iw as the same way
Kelly M - SheliaB....tell him that won't be the last time he questions your involvement with this!![]()
liz - I've been working on the literacy portfolio all day, sketching out allof my ideas
DebbieMc. - Write up how your daily routines and activites meet the needs of those part. students.
aggieb - I am fine, just very busy
SheliaB - Kelly...I am SURE you are right about that one!
DebbieMc. - You're welcome
Sassy - I teach 1st grade and still no progress from any kids
liz - oh I read abouther, congratulations!!
Sassy - No reading no writing nothing
viv - Liz, I have brainstormed shared reading of Big Books, Phonics Poems on Charts, Poetry booklets, Buddy Reading, mentors and volunteers, Literacy Centers (described each one and how it helped each student) Technology and most of all Guided Reading Groups!!!!! We can't forget speaking and listening either.
Jennifer - Thanks!
bruppert - Yeah, Jennifer we are all very proud of you!!
aggieb - sassy, maybe you mean. "measurable progress"
SheliaB - Yes Jennifer, congratulations!
DebbieMc. - Jennifer--Congratulations! I am so proud to know you!!
liz - I have a ? about writing about oral lang. Any ideas?
Sassy - yup
Jennifer - Thanks Debbie.
DebbieD - Jennifer, it was thrilling to watch you get the news on the website! We're all proud to be associated with you!
Sassy - You are right aggieb
aggieb - Jennifer,, congratulations.. we are so proud of you!!
Jennifer - Wow...I am blushing
Sassy - are you guys gonna be here sometime tonight?
DebbieMc. - I watched the video clip too. You are sooo cute!
viv - I have to go. you are all great! Thanks for yout time on a Sat.
Jennifer - Liz had a question...ask yourself Liz if your child seems to understand directions you give. Can he or she speak in complete sentences...can he or she come up with words to name objects etc
bruppert - Don't blush just be honored and know you have worked hard and finally got credit for it!!
aggieb - Liz, you can write about oral retellings, how they communicate needs, etc
Jennifer - Sooo...cute??? More likely ready to FAINT!
Kelly M - EVERYBODY REACH OUT AND TOUCH YOUR SCREEN....sort of a stand up and cheer for Jennifer - our Milken Award winning teacher! YEAH!
aggieb - Yeah, Jennifer
SheliaB - Considered it touched!
Jennifer - It has been a wonderful ride so far....I will be sure to brag on all of you wonderful NB teachers and candidates
DebbieD - Yeah!
liz - Very Cool
bruppert - Let's sing and dance and say hip-hip hooray!!
SheliaB - I have copied so much stuff from the computer that I feel a bit overwhelmed...this room has stacks everywhere!
DebbieMc. - Enjoy that money and that recognition. You deserve it. I love it when one of us gets some recognition.
Jennifer - Shelia
aggieb - shelia what are your main concerns
SheliaB - yes
liz - I know wahat you mean...I know have stacks in 3 rooms
JanKWV - Congratulations Jennifer! I logged on late.. where can I see your video clip?
Jennifer - Shelia..don't be overwhelmed. You will learn so much from this process. Give it time to digest
DebbieMc. - Sheila, you'll live with stacks for a few months.
aggieb - Shelia, I copied a lot also,,organize it so it can be useful and easy to find
Patrice in KY - Hey, Jennifer...congrats!!!
Jennifer - marylandpublicschools.org...click on the little TV
JanKWV - Hey Patrice.... glad you are here... thanks for the link Jennifer
DebbieMc. - Jennifer's right. I have been telling candidates to try to enjoy the process because you grow so much. I know that's hard when you're actually in the middle of it.
liz - anyone from FLA?
bruppert - organization is the key to success
SheliaB - I guess I have none at this time and that concerns me. I NEED to write, write, write. I have done Entry 4 except for the reflection and of course, redoing it and adding as time goes along.
DebbieMc. - Hi, Patrice.
aggieb - I colored coded each entry and put assessment things in totally different containers
Kelly M - Hi Jan - welcome!
Jennifer - Shelia
Patrice in KY - hi jankwv...good to be here
DebbieD - DebbieMC - I agree with you, I actually enjoyed the writing and learning - just not the taping and worrying.
Kelly M - Sassy - I'm sorry - I was answering the phone and trying to get in my applause for Jennifer....let's get back to your literacy question!
Patrice in KY - Hi Debbie, congrats on an assignment close to home
Kelly M - Hi Patrice - how are you today?
aggieb - Shelia, this is a part of the reflection process, to write, and rewrite
JanKWV - I test Nov 4th.. getting SCARED!
DebbieMc. - It's wonderful, Patrice. Thanks DebbieD.
Jennifer - Don't rush to write...study standards and do the practice exercises where you practice writing reflectively. They were a huge help!
Patrice in KY - Hi Kelly. Good...enjoying the edge of fall break
liz - wow, so early....how are you preparing?
SheliaB - Color coded...done.
aggieb - word of advice for the tester!! Learn to breathe and relax
Patrice in KY - deep breaths, jankwv...deep breaths
SheliaB - Jennifer..just took that down. thanks
JanKWV - We have to be done assessing by DEc. 31st
bruppert - Did you learn to relax aggieb? LOL
liz - how do we study for the test? Does one study for it?
aggieb - Bruppert, actually, I haven't. I am redoing my entire house
DebbieMc. - Jennifer's right. The writing will not be as stressful because you'll have a better idea of how to write.
SheliaB - Liz. I am from FL
JanKWV - I had a panic attack this week.. I've been reading a lot.. but my regular classroom duties plus my role as a literacy mentor for my school, plus implementing 2 grants I have received had really overwhelmed me
liz - where?
Patrice in KY - honestly, the deep breathing to relax helped me focus more than anything
bruppert - YOu are such an energy person, aggieb!!
aggieb - NB has taught me that I can a lot more if I will only believe in myself
DebbieMc. - Jan, one thing at a time. You are just one person.
Patrice in KY - jankwv, my panic attacks hit in the middle of the night
JanKWV - i couldn't get the iowa practice site to work last night.. how do I get a password?
SheliaB - Ocala
Melissa - Jan, I understand the panic attack......you are not alone
Patrice in KY - jankwv, log on as a guest
aggieb - Practicing Yoga was the best thing I did for myself, regular exercise and a healthy diet
DebbieD - I'm getting used to the panic attacks since I got to 5th grade! It feels like much more pressure.
liz - oh...I'm for PalmHarbor....Are there others doing this in your area?
SheliaB - does FL have a practice site?
JanKWV - I know.. you all are great! I tried that, but it wouldn't go..
Jennifer - JanKWV...sounds like a lot of accomplishments to write about for the documented accomplishments entry! Just think of the impact on kids you are making! It will all be worth it.
liz - practice site for the test? I don't know
aggieb - I hit the panic attack at the testing site but by the time I was on test three, I had to learn to breathe
bruppert - Hey DebbieD, how are you doing, was wondering how yu liked 5th grade such a difference from first .
SheliaB - Yes...several. What about there?
Patrice in KY - aggieb...not you!!!!
DebbieMc. - I just got home from Okaloosa Island. My family and I had a wonderful time. The weather was beautiful.
aggieb - You donot need a password for the Iowa site
DebbieD - Bruppert - it's a huge difference, but I really like the kids. Planning takes hours since everything is new for me.
DebbieMc. - DebbieD, are you departmentalized?
Kelly M - DebbieD - I've missed you!
bruppert - Yeah I bet it is a big planning thing too, I buddy teach fifth grade with my first grade and it is fun, but I like the little ones best
Jennifer - DebbieD...I can relate...I have been doing alot more teaching of intermediate grades as reading specialist. I have come to appreciate how much they can do independently. Unfortunately, the big difference is that the 5th graders don't think teachers walk on water anymore.
DebbieD - DebbieMc - yes, I teach science to all 3 sections - little did I know what learning about inquiry was leading to!was
JanKWV - okay.. I;ll try again.. thanks...My science activites are going very well. Not so sure about my SS/ARts. Morning meetings are great.. .but I have not video taped anything yet for the Building the Community Classroom yet..
DebbieMc. - DebbieD, have you thought about joining the MC Gen ring? My sister is on that ring and loves it.
Kelly M - Hello FF_GB - how are you today?
SheliaB - I think I may take all of my printouts and put holes in them and into my notebook. Tomorrow I will read one of my other Entries.
DebbieD - DebbieMc - you sound like my husband - he already thinks I should try for MC-Gen certification. It's too soon.
Jennifer - JanKWV...I also struggled with the social studies and arts entry
DebbieMc. - I agree, Jennifer. I work with all grades K-5 and I still love primary best.
Patrice in KY - DebbieMc, did your sister give you my greetings last month?
aggieb - Jan, just set the video up and let it roll.. even if you have no intentions of using the video.. You can learn a lot from this. Mistakes you won't make on the video
FF_GB - kelly...lena??
DebbieMc. - I agree with your husband but later when you're more comfortable. I mean joining now just for ideas for teaching.
DebbieMc. - Yes, she did, Patrice. Thanks for remembering me.
JanKWV - would a lesson taped on our fire safety unit work? We have songs and fingerplays that would include the arts? We also make a lot of quilts.
liz - I have a ?...Can you get one certification in one area, switvh to a new grade level (intermediate) and get another certification..double the $$?
FF_GB - lena...kojaiii??..
Kelly M - Hi Carol - how can we help you? FF_GB - I'm Kelly...can I help you?
Patrice in KY - SheliaB, I started out with hole punching everything and putting it in a notebook...it grew to a file cabinet.
DebbieD - Oh, I hadn't thought of that! What a good idea!
Melissa - DebbieMc. can you tell me about the mc ring?
lena - oh..........ffgb biya konfranc room
Kelly M - Hi lena - welcome!
DebbieD - Liz - I can get certified in more than one area, but there's no money in it for me in Minnesota, so I don't know how that would work.
Jennifer - It depends on your district, liz. In mine...I don't think you get double the $ for dual certification
Kelly M - Be sure to get the MC-GEN group you want. I know one allows some chat other than NBPTS - but another one doesn't! Pick the one you want!
FF_GB - koja??
DebbieMc. - There is an MC Gen ring on yahoo groups. Probably more than one. She really likes the one she's a member of. I
Carol - Hi, everyone, I am just dropping in. I certified in 2001 and am facilitating a group of new candidates as I did last year. Just listening! Debbie Mc., I love my new job. New challenges.
JanKWV - Okay Aggie, thanks.. I'll just get that camera going during morning meetings and see what happens....
SheliaB - Patrice...how should I handle the papers then?
FF_GB - lena...kojai ??
DebbieMc. - In Kentucky, there's no extra money for more than one certificate.
lena - farhad................biya room--kofranc.ok
Jennifer - Welcome Carol
DebbieD - Kelly -planning any Mn trips anytime soon?
DebbieMc. - Hello, Carol! I'm so glad. It's a lot of work, isn't it? But challenging and something new everyday.
FF_GB - nemibinam!!,...az koaj?..
Carol - I think the same is true for SC The bonus is for being certified.
Patrice in KY - SheliaB, I simply made a file per entry and could print out emails, web info, etc.
Jennifer - Wow...I certified in 1998...I am really an old timer
JanKWV - I forgot.. where can I find the prompts for the assessment center?
DebbieD - Jennifer - a true pioneer, and look what it's led to for you!
SheliaB - ok I will do that Patrice. Thanks
lena - logoff/ konfans room..ok
Carol - Yes, I am learning that it is a different kind of stress. I love my kids--but they have many challenges.
Patrice in KY - what is the plan for recertification...I know the first group will be up soon
Kelly M - DebbieD - looks like I'll be there for Thanksgiving! Any chance of you coming down?
DebbieMc. - Jennifer, I am the class of '99.
FF_GB - ok
liz - what? I thugh it was good for 10 years??
Melissa - Thanks for the input..Have to run for now
DebbieD - Kelly - possibly, let's talk later!
Jennifer - I think they are still working on that...last I heard there was some contraversy about how to go about recert
Kelly M - They are establishing the recertification process now.....for the first ones!
liz - Isn't certification good for 10 years?
bruppert - Kelly , be careful about coming to DC lately with the sniper they have not caught him and he is near my area for rea.
Patrice in KY - It is for ten years...but the first group has been around for almost that long
DebbieMc. - bruppert, you be very very careful!
Carol - Our county had it's first certified teachers in '99. There were only 3 teachers in that first group.
liz - really? I though this bagn 3 years ago....
Patrice in KY - bruppert, you and those around you are in my prayers
liz - began**
Jennifer - Also, I wouldn't want to wait to attempt recert to the last minute...what if my first attempt didn't work? I would hate to have to start from scratch
DebbieD - I've got to go - scoring science tests with 5 separate parts for 84 students takes a long time!
SheliaB - I will be visiting in your area in Northern VA and MD Thanksgiving as well
tmw1 - Hey everyone!
DebbieMc. - I'm thinking that I saw the recertification requirements. But I can't remember when/where. Old age.
Jennifer - Bruppert...where are you from
bruppert - OH we have been, this sniper is something else,
Kelly M - The first certificates were earned in 94 I think.........but NBPTS started in 1987...it took them 6-7 years to build it enough to award a couple of certificate areas!
SheliaB - Yes, please be careful up there
DebbieMc. - Bye, DebbieD. If you send me your email, I'll forward it to my sister.
Carol - Bye, Debbie D. That sounds like a lot of work! I should be off planning my Sunday School lesson
liz - wow...where have I been.
bruppert - I live outh of DC about an hour. I met Kelly one night for dinner but I did it twice!! Only caught her once. LOL Right KELLY !
liz - ? about Literacy....I should show growth in each of my samples/
Kelly M - I've heard some things about the recertification process, too....but of course, can't remember! We're not much help, are we?bruppert - looks like I may not be coming back for the Rdg First stuff...we're handling a lot of it by conference calls now!
liz - I think i should although it doesn't indicate that
Jennifer - Liz not neccessarily...choose kids that you have questions about.
Patrice in KY - liz, showing growth is not necessary....usually a natural process, but not necessary
DebbieMc. - Carol, we need to email sometime. Discuss our work.
liz - Can I choose 2 girls?
Jennifer - Sorry to hear that Kelly...I was sorry I couldn't get there last time
tmw1 - For the literacy part, is it better to use high students or low ones
tmw1 - For the literacy part, is it better to use high students or low ones
Kelly M - liz - you want to be able to show that you can analyze what they have written - and how you use that to inform your instruction with them...
Patrice in KY - liz, remember to children with parents you can contact/interact with
liz - Any ideas on what to write about the eual access ? Does that mean to include all students yadada
Jennifer - Liz...and Kelly...boys or girls, hi or low...it doesn't matter. You want to have kids that have a lot to analyze.
Kelly M - Hi tmw1 - sorry I didn't welcome you quickly! I think it does NOT matter whether or not your students are high or low....but you have to be able to analyze what they are doing in all aspects of literacy...and what you are doing to improve them...
Patrice in KY - tmw1, it does not matter. Just choose children you have lots of questions about and you can work through their needs
Carol - Absolutely, Debbie Mc. I am the only Specialist at my school --I am treated kindly, but don't really have any one to bounce ideas off of.
Jennifer - I chose a kid that read well but had awful writing...I had been wondering what was going on with him. It made for a lot to analyze
liz - equal accdes for all.............explain??
tmw1 - Right now I am working on entry 4. I am weak on the category of teacher as a learner. How bad is that going to hurt me?
DebbieMc. - Sounds good, Carol.
liz - access***
Patrice in KY - my literacy was my last entry, because I kept changing the children
DebbieMc. - Equal access--all children have access to the same, rigorous curriculum
tmw1 - I seem to have a lot as teacher as a leader and working with the community
Kelly M - tmw1 - are there some things you can do this year to help that? Then you can also reflect on what you see as you look at your accomplishments...and what you plan to do about it! Reflect, reflect, reflect!
liz - what do you do for teacher as leader?
Carol - Has anyone seen Regie Routman's new book--REading Essentials? It looks great. NB has definitely made me an addict for professional resources.
tmw1 - I am a team leader and chair on various commitees things like that
Jennifer - See you all...hubby is asking to read his email...as a good EC teacher...I need to share. Cant wait to see Routman's new book...
DebbieMc. - liz, what do you do to encourage/ teach other teachers/educators/community/parents, etc.
DebbieMc. - I haven't Carol. But I'll bet it's good.
tmw1 - Any suggestions? I have taken some courses, but I have been told that it isn't a good idea to write up courses and workshops.
Kelly M - Bye Jennifer - and again, thanks for being such a great role model for us!
DebbieMc. - tmw1, you can use all that just make sure that you show that you have impacted student achievement.
liz - by...thanks for all you help fellow colleagues..see you next Sat!!
DebbieMc. - Think about things you've done as team leader and committee chair that have brought about changes/policies, etc that have increased student achievement.
tmw1 - Really? What sort of documentation can I use for this entry?
SheliaB - By everyone, I need to get my files together.
DebbieMc. - letters, committee minutes, minutes from teach meetings, notes, cards, agenda, etc.
Kelly M - Bye SheliaB - see you next week!
SheliaB - Thank you for your help.
Carol - Good luck everyone! I am enjoying the ring . I am saving the wonderfull posts for my new candidates as they get started. This is the best help. I am going to go to Heinemann and order that Routman book before I tackle the Sunday School lesson! Bye!
Patrice in KY - catch you all later...have a wonderful week
JanKWV - What kinds of lessons did you all do for social studies/arts/community?
DebbieMc. - Well, ladies. I need to run. Still unpacking from my trip.
tmw1 - Haven't come up with one yet? Is it better to do one out of the SS textbook that we use or to come up with something else?
bruppert - DebbieMC, see you and be in touch - glad you got a vacation!!
DebbieMc. - Thanks, Bette. Have a good week.
Kelly M - Jan - people use all kinds of things! You should start with your own curriculum.....that's for sure! NBPTS doesn't want you to make up something for them! They want to see what you do in your classroom and have you explain how it fits the NBPTS standards!
DebbieMc. - tmw1, I would read the EC Gen standards and the social studies standards. That will help you get an idea of the big ideas in Soc. St. You probably need to think in terms of major concepts or what I call the big ideas in Soc. St.
JanKWV - okay.. I understand.. just wondering what other's found successful...
JanKWV - I have the big ideas in science.. where did you get the big ideas in social studies?
bruppert - When I did SS I used a unit on Martin Luther King because the kids wanted to know who he was and what he was all about, It was a wonderful lesson for all of us
DebbieMc. - The social studies standards will discuss major concepts.
tmw1 - Where are the big ideas in science? I haven't received my box yet?
bruppert - I used the National Standards of Social Studies for the big idea in SS
Kelly M - People have done communities, learning about another country (especially when there is a direct connection...like a child is from there, etc.). They have done economics, geography, slaves, ...you name it! I think I've heard about everything since this list started! It all sounds good to me!
JanKWV - you can find them on the npbts site under the portfolio instructions...
JanKWV - i think it is on the candidate resource page.. it is the same stuff you'll get on your cd in the box
bruppert - Kelly are you teaching first grade or kindergarten this year?
DebbieMc. - You can read the social studies standards from our EC Gen files. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EC_GEN/files
Kelly M - bruppert - first....and oh, do they wear me out!
JanKWV - Thanks Debbie!
tmw1 - What type of writing did you use for the literacy part? books, stories, etc
tmw1 - What has been more successful?
Kelly M - Hi kll - how are you?
Kelly M - bruppert - my thoughts are with you folks in the DC area. I'm hoping (as I'm sure you are) that they catch this sniper TODAY.
JanKWV - I better get back to work.. this is my Saturday to work.. my son plays college football and this is his off week, so I better take advantage of this time.. Enjour your weekend Kelly & all
tmw1 - At the assessment center, is it better to type your entries or write them?
tmw1 - Thank you for the help and advice!!
DebbieMc. - Ladies, I 've gotta go too. Have a wonderful week.
bruppert - Kelly is it so scary and they don't have much of a lead either!!
bruppert - See you soon and thanks for your good advice, DebbieMC
Kelly M - Bye folks! tmw1 - I think it's MUCH easier to type! People say that their hand really wears out handwriting them! But it comes down to what YOU are most comfortable with!
tmw1 - I just don't understand how people can do stuff like that! It's crazy!
bruppert - I typed and I found I was more relaxed as I could just go and do the test. The ones that wrote had so many more interruptions and all
tmw1 - I will test this summer, any suggestions on how to prepare?
Kelly M - tmw1 - it'll wait until then! I'd concentrate on portfolios first! You will learn SO much with doing them that will help you at the AC.
bruppert - - Kelly we are messing this thing up. thanks for bearing with DebbieMC and me, we are catching up on our lives and all . Sorry for the inconvenience
bruppert - Kelly you are right I learned from the portfolio and was able to study for the AC better for it, good advice.
tmw1 - Is it best to work on one entry at a time or to work a little on each of them?
tmw1 - Right now I am only focusing on entry 4 accomplishments
bruppert - some of the ladies can multi-task I did one at a time
bruppert - I spent too much time on entry 4 and SS, I should have divided my time up better
bruppert - But I learned from them all
Kelly M - tmw - I think that you'll find that no matter which way you start out to do it, you'll end up working on all four at the same time! You will always go back and rewrite, edit, etc. But some folks really prefer to sort of complete one entry before they begin to write another. Of course, you're planning for all of them all of the time! You have to be saving literacy things, planning for SS and Science, collecting documents for your accomplishments, etc.!
Kelly M - I'm going to have to run. I'll see you all on the ring!
tmw1 - For a parent workshop that I am doing soon, can I turn in a survey, signin sheet, and a pamplet that a colleague and I made up in for documentation when I write it up?
bruppert - I would have the parents write you a note about it as documentation
bruppert - yes, you can use all of that data as well
tmw1 - On the survey, I have a section for parent comments or concerns.
tmw1 - I am just concerned about coming up with 20 pages of documentation
bruppert - well girls, I have to fix dinner . see you later on another SAt.
bruppert - bye and good luck with your work!!
tmw1 - Thanks for the input and advice
