Lilly - Hi there! How are you?
tmw1 - I'm o.k. and you?
tmw1 - Are you in the process of certification, waiting for scores, or already certified?
Lilly - Good. This is my first time in a chat room. I' m a NB teacher "01. Are you a candidate?
tmw1 - I am. My portfolio entries are due April 15th.
Bobbi - Hi...I'm a banker in the second year of the process and waiting for the scores release???!!!
tmw1 - Good luck to you then Bobbi! : )
Bobbi - THANKS!!!
Bobbi - and good luck to you too
Lilly - I am certified in MC, but assessed EC. Which certification area are you both doing?
Bobbi - Lilly what was your area
tmw1 - I'll need it for sure! : )
Bobbi - I redid Science
tmw1 - EC for me
Bobbi - I didn't include Inquiry the first time
Lilly - The scores should be out really soon. Good luck Bobbi!
Bobbi - What did you assess Lilly?
tmw1 - I am fixing to start on my literacy entry. Almost finished with accomplishments. Need to write up reflection for it, but not sure how to start it.
Bobbi - Wonder what the hold up is with the scores?
Patrice (KY) - Greetings from KY nb friends!
Patrice (KY) - I am just popping in for a bit. I have Christmas "stuff" to do.
Kteach - Hi guys, I'm a new NB candidate
Patrice (KY) - welcome to the wonderful world of nb work, kteach
tmw1 - I need to get started on that myself! : )
Patrice (KY) - How are you Aggieb and tmw1?
Kteach - Thanks Patrice, I'll have to say it seems like an exciting journey!!!
Patrice (KY) - Hi Lilly!
Bobbi - I lost my subscription to EC Gen ring when we changed internet services....any word on line about what to expect with the scores?
Lilly - When I was notified of my scores, first Congradulations but no numerical scores were issued on the website, then the numerical scores came in the mail. Good luck to all!
Kteach - So is everyone here certified or waiting???
tmw1 - Beginning to get a little stressed over the literacy entry.
Patrice (KY) - Bobbi...an upcoming Friday...whether it is the next or not, we don't know.
aggieb - I am waiting!! and waiting and w......
Bobbi - Oh...Friday...AGAIN???!!!
Patrice (KY) - Kteach...I am waiting...and waiting...and waiting
Patrice (KY) - lol, aggieb...kindred spirits, are we not.
tmw1 - Good luck to you both Patrice and aggieb!
aggieb - Bobbi, I say congratulations also, but it said on embarking this journey.. I thought for a second i had passed.. this was a week ago. )
Kteach - Sounds like I'm possibly the only newbie then huh??? I have a couple of specific questions
Patrice (KY) - yes, bobbi. No matter what, the plan is to release them on a friday to the candidates and the following tuesday to the public
tmw1 - Wish I was waiting and not just beginning!
Patrice (KY) - tmw1, I remember that feeling VERY well
Becca - Did any of you do community workers for SS/arts? Im a newby as well tmw1
aggieb - what questions do you have?
Patrice (KY) - hi kristi
tmw1 - I am a newbie myself Kteach.
Lilly - Be sure and read the Standards for the literacy (and all) the entries and incorporate them into your teaching an text..
Kteach - so tmw1, have you gotten a good start on it?
Bobbi - Last year I waited at home to see my scores and then went to school...
aggieb - I didn't do community workers but it sounds very developmentally appropriate
Bobbi - well, not scores...but "We regret to inform you...
tmw1 - I am almost finished with entry 4. Just have to write up my reflection, not sure how to start it off. I am fixing to start on the entry 1 next.
Kteach - OK, here's one of my questions, I have my science video and am completing my write-up. I feel like I am repeating myself when it asks for the me to state my goals and then the objectives. I'm sure there is a difference but it seems so subtle, that I find I'm repeating myself.
Becca - We did a unit on our school the children did interviews and presentations it was wonderful
Patrice (KY) - I didn't do community workers as a part of my entry, but it is certainly a part of my curriculum
kristi - Hi everyone. I'm a newbie, too.
aggieb - what are your social goals and arts goals
Kteach - I looked at my goal as what I want them to achieve and my objectives, how I got them there, but they sound sooo much alike. Am I way off base?
tmw1 - Hello kristi!
Lilly - It seems to me that goals are long term and objectives are for a shorter period of instruction.
Becca - I'm going through the write up and I understand the connections relative to the SS but having a hard time making the connections in the national standards
Kteach - Hi Kristi
Becca - For the arts: Recognize how performing and visual arts are avenues for expressing content knowledge.
aggieb - Look careful at the standards in your NB book also
Lilly - Or anyway, learning goals are broader.
Patrice (KY) - kteach...your goals are broad, your objectives are measureable
Becca - Social Skill: Cooperate with peers and effectively expressing ideas and questions in whole and small groups discussions
Bobbi - Lilly did you like assessing?
Becca - It is MUCH easier to find evidence in the NB standards b/c of the building upon social studies knowledge upon self and personal knowledge
tmw1 - I am having a hard time because the make up of my class is constantly changing. Lost 3 students within a week and a half last month. Just got a new student this past Tuesday. I am getting another new student Monday. Very frustrating.
aggieb - Becca, seems as if you are off to a good start, make sure your activites bring out these goals loud and clear
Lilly - I worked with a wonderful group of teachers and I think it would have been very enlightening to have done it before doing NB.
Patrice (KY) - kteach...goals are the big picture, objectives what do want them to walk away knowing and how will it be measured and activities are the vehicle to get you there is my understanding
Bobbi - Lilly, will you assess again?
Patrice (KY) - tmw1, that makes building community more of a challenge, doesn't it?
Kteach - Patrice, any suggestions here, one of my goals is for students to be able to understand how plants grow from seeds, but I don't know how to make that in a "Measureable" objective
tmw1 - Lilly, I am sure someone has already asked this ?, but what part did you assess?
tmw1 - Very much so!
kristi - I'm working on a unit right now for thanksgiving/thankfulness. We are studying the first thanksgiving and discussing what we are thankful for. We are making a class quilt next week. Each student is making a square for the quilt. Each square is made by each student according to what they are thankful for. Would this be a good disussion/activity to videotape for the SS/Social/Art entry?
Lilly - I think so. I only did it on one particular entry and I'd like to assess a different one. That would be interesting.
Patrice (KY) - kteach...what is the big idea for your unit
Becca - tmw1 could you use ruberics associated with journal entries?
Kteach - constancy, change, and measurement
tmw1 - Could you measure the growth of the plants and make prediction charts, graphs, etc
Lilly - I assessed EC literacy.
Patrice (KY) - kteach, how are you going to assess that they really KNOW how plants grow from seeds?
aggieb - Kristi, anything that shows the social goal , arts and social studies content will work,, just after you video , you have to analyze that section that cleary shows the standards based on the rubric
Kteach - i wrote it up as an observation of the conversation and they measured the plants and made a growth chart..
Lilly - I also mentored people last year who were doing MC, PE; this year Art and ESL..
tmw1 - I would think so.
Bobbi - aggieb are you still on the EC-GEN mailring
Becca - Sue-What is brb?
lindy - I'm first time - a reading specialist trying for EC, has anyone borrowed kids to do your videos?
Patrice (KY) - kteach, sometimes if you think backwards from what you want to come out of your lesson you end up with your objectives and then your goals.
Lilly - With each entry I completed, I got more in the swing of incorporating NB standards and answering the questions that the entry asked me for. That was the hardest part for me.
Patrice (KY) - kteach, do you have the national science standards?
Lilly - Our reading facilitator borrowed students for a video taped entry,
Kteach - Yes I have national science standards
Patrice (KY) - hey....ginger!!!!
lindy - I also heard that you need to keep looking at the scoring rubrics as you are writing, I think they help as much as questions.
tmw1 - Lilly, I was told that it is best to use writings that are from different areas. Being that we can only turn in 3 one page samples for each child. That is going to be hard to do. Is there a way that I can copy students work and put more than one sample on a page?
sue - is anyone here Pre-K?
Patrice (KY) - kteach...build on your goal from those standards....does that make sense? If the goal is broad then the objectives fall under the umbrella with a measurable focus of learning...clear as mud, right?
Patrice (KY) - how are you feeling, ginger...
Kelly - Hi everybody! Good to see so many folks here!
aggieb - Lindy,, I think you are smart.. You want to know what will be your measuring stick!!
ginger - feeling great! Heart surgery was truly a piece of cake!!!!
Kteach - it really seems clear to me until I try to make my objectives measurable and i find that very difficult to do.
ginger - i actually ran an errand today!
sue - the reason I ask is our state standards for Pre-K finally got approved. they fit with the NB standards quite well
Lilly - When I did a similar entry for MC, I only added to a particular student's page a small editing checklist. The important part is your analysis of your teaching and addressing students learning needs.
Patrice (KY) - lindy, I took the 4 scoring rubric and put it into real world type questions and first person. That seemed to help me somewhat.
Bobbi - Hi Kelly...could you tell me how to subscribe to the EC-Gen mailring
Patrice (KY) - hi Kelly
Patrice (KY) - ginger, you mean you are already driving????
tmw1 - Also, there are 2 teachers at my school that are already certified that are helping the 11 of us in the process at our school. They suggested for entry 4 that as we type up our accomplishements up, to put them back to back like more than 1 on a page. Is that a good idea?
kristi - when selecting the pieces of work for the literacy entry, are they just looking for the student's dictation to the teacher if we choose option A? Can we mix? For example, we do journal writing where they dictate to me. We also do writing where I give them a sentence to write, and they write it.
Kelly - Bobbi - go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EC_GEN/ and click on the subscribe button! That will do it!
ginger - yep, have freedome to do anything i want to do!!
aggieb - tmw.. I don't think it will work for the new generation.. read those directions again
sue - tmw- be careful. Read your directions. We had to have a cover sheet for each accomplishment
Patrice (KY) - kteach, ususally an objective says something like will do "so and so" with 80% accuracy, or something along those lines. You don't have to do it that way...that is just what the college classes suggest.
Kelly - tmw - be sure to read the directions to see if that's okay! The directions change a little from year to year.......and you want to be following them exactly!
tmw1 - I didn't think so either! I didn't do that just wanted to make sure. Also, can we type everything in Arial 12 point?
Lilly - I would go by what the instructions say. The page limitations are so everyone is on a level playing field and the pages are counting regardless of where they are placed.
sue - kristi- mine was a combination of dictation and student writing. I;m Pre-K though
ginger - tmwl, remember that if it's a short accomplishment, you can count it as 1./2 page and only make sure you don't eceed your limit
Patrice (KY) - tmw1 follow the font guidelines in your directions....wrong fonts can cause limitations on your scoring
Kteach - So if I have 3 main goals, I should state 3 different objectives that are all measurable with a percentage of accuaracy to achieve each goal??
tmw1 - I don't think that I have, but it is VERY close.
Kelly - tmw - be SURE to check it all with your directions....page length, font, etc.
kristi - tmw1-garamond saves space and it is okay to use.
ginger - tmwl, have you done things to save space, like only putting one space between sentences?
Becca - I saved two lines per page with Times New Roman.
tmw1 - The directions state that that is an acceptable font, however our mentors keep telling me to check to make sure that I can use it. That makes me question myself.
aggieb - just dandy.. but I need some numbers :<
sue - don;t forget orphan control
Patrice (KY) - remember kteach...your goal is broad...may be only one with several objectives...anybody disagree/agree along those lines
Kelly - Kteach - be sure that you actually use those goals.......and then assess them! Assessors tell us that it's amazing how many people assess something other than what's in the goals!
Lilly - Editing and reworking my entries took up a lot of my time. A reader from school read it, my husband read the questions to me aloud while I read my answers and I compared my responses with How Will My Entry be Scored, in addition to using mentors.
ginger - i agree, patrice, a goal is broad, an objective more specific
ginger - i agree, patrice, a goal is broad, an objective more specific
Kteach - Is it alright to use teacher observation as an assessment or does it need to be something more concrete?
Patrice (KY) - kelly has some wise words, tmw1....everything needs to weave together from start to finish, like a fine tapestry.
sue - try looking at it this way-- my goal is to loose 20 pounds. My objective would be TWL complete 45 minutes of daily excerise
ginger - kteach, are you talking about preassessing or during the course of a lesson?\
Lilly - Plus I "justified" the page, didn't indent and rephrased the question as part of my response, like we teach the kids to do. I substituted short synonyms for long words so I could get the most on the page.
Bobbi - Kelly I tried to e-mail you privately...but I'm not sure how this all works...at any rate, do you have any clearer picture of when we might expect cert. results to be posted?
Kteach - ginger, I'm talking about where it says what were your instructional mathematics and science objectives: Reasons for selecting: Plans for assessing students knowledge in light of these objectives
Lilly - Teacher observation I think is a very valid measurement.
ginger - yes, you can use teacher observation. I would also include something that is a bit more concrete
Lilly - Losing weight - Nice example of goal and objective!
Kteach - ok, if i use teacher observation, how can i write that objective so that it is measurable?
Kelly - Bobbi - I had really thought it would be today. They really stuck to the "end of November/beginning of December" timeframe when it was mentioned in San Diego last weekend.
ginger - kelly did you have fun in SD?
sue - kteach--I'm a CIW. I listed the objectives and how they were linked to state and national benchmarks and standards
ginger - I grew up out there and miss the sunshine!
Patrice (KY) - I am having trouble staying in the room.
ginger - patrice, having trouble staying with us?
ginger - sorry, we'll all just come to your house then!
Patrice (KY) - coming and going left and right, ginger. lol
Kelly - Ginger - growing up there you must know that it rains 10 days per year (that's what they told us). Well, all I can say is that it rained the three days we were there! But the truth of the matter is that conference could be held in timbucktoo and it would be terrific! I had a wonderful time!
Patrice (KY) - come on over...no food here...haven't been to the grocery store in forever...but coffee, ginger....and it is NOT decaf.
sue - kteach- what entry-- what about the work sample itself?
Becca - I feel so ALL over the place. I am putting together my instructional materials today
tmw1 - Are there any good suggestions for websites that I can go to to get some really good SS and Science lessons?
ginger - yay!!! I can actually order a coke now!
Becca - oppps ssorrry that wasn't meant for the group
ginger - tmwl, have you ever been to eduhound.com?
Lilly - If you have to include oral language development, would you use teacher observation?
Kelly - tmw - they're all over the web - but really look at what you do normally. NBPTS doesn't want fancy schmantzy lessons. They want to see what you do, how you do it, why you do it, etc. No need to have anything fancy.
Kteach - sue, i'm working on my science entry. I can always add work samples, but I still don't know how to make a teacher observation measurable when writing an objective. See what I mean
ginger - or....have you ever tried coreknowledge.org? That is an awesome place!!
sue - tmw1- I think it works best for you to see what the kids are truly interested in and what is required from your parish
Patrice (KY) - kteach...back to your concerns about measuring....look at how well you want them to learn what. Some children may grasp things in a different way. Overall...you want then all to grasp what you are teaching.
ginger - sue, did a kid say something that you heard that caused you to believe they understood the idea?
sue - kteach- how about classroom conversation-- TWL verbally identify the parts of a flower with 100% accuracy
Lilly - Nasa has wonderful websites; national geographic. www.socialstudies.com, www.geopop.com, www.ncss.org (Nat'l Social Studies council", www.pbs.org
Becca - How far along were you all with 12 weeks left????
Kelly - tmw - also try the North Carolina Course of Study.......do a search...I'm not exactly sure of the address.......
Lilly - I used core knowledge. I love it.
sue - ginger- I am Pre-K. Most of my evaluation is classroom conversation and anecdotal notes
Patrice (KY) - there you go sue....a measurable way to use observation...also, through observation students can do a reflection to show understanding.
ginger - i bought a unit from them a couple of years ago....best $20 i ever spent!
Bobbi - Well...good luck to all...those who have just begun and those who are waiting for cert. results...I've got to get back to homework
sue - ginger- sure did- they answered their own questions from the KWL chart when they voiced their observation
ginger - so sue, isn't that how you would show the mastery of the objective?
tmw1 - Good luck to you too Bobbi. Hope you hear some good news soon!
Kteach - ok moving on to another question I had, if my video is a little short of 15 minutes is that alright. I read the directions and it just says 15 minutes, but I need to cut it off at 13 min. or so for it to have closure.
Patrice (KY) - there you go, sue....that is great for assessing
ginger - sounds good, sue
sue - ginger- yes
Kelly - Becca - map out what you have left to do.......remember to save that last week for copying/packing/mailing!
Bobbi - Thanks and bye, guys.
ginger - yes, making it a bit shorter is fine, Kteach
sue - kteach- it can be a max of 15
ginger - bye, bobbi
Patrice (KY) - kteach, we were told last year that as long as you cover what needs to be shown then under 15 minutes is fine
Patrice (KY) - bye bobbi`
aggieb - As long as the video shows the standards.
kristi - bye bobbi-good luck!
ginger - i used a 45 minute tape and found the 15 minutes i liked best
sue - I also use representational drawings a lot
ginger - sue, those would be perfect!
sue - where did aggie go?
Patrice (KY) - great way to assess young children sue!!
Lilly - Less is ok for video. I hit "pause" and wrote every bit of dialog, and compared it to the Standards. I've mentioned this before, but I showed the video afterwards to the kids and asked probing questions about their analysis of their learning and used some of that in my analysis/reflection.
Patrice (KY) - sue, do you use a scoring guide, or rubric as some call it
Kteach - well I have lots of typing to do before my kids come home from soccer. thanks for you help
sue - patrice- I used the COR from HighScope. My anecdotal notes are used to score the COR which is leveled on 30 items in 5 domains
ginger - lilly, that is a great idea! you should share that on the ring. lots of people could use that idea!
Lilly - Bye - good luck!
aggieb - lilly did you assess this summer
Patrice (KY) - Lilly, I scripted too, that helped me find the weaknesses and strengths much more readily...not to mention evidence that I needed
lindy - Does it matter if the kids say your name on the video?
ginger - nope, lindy
Kelly - lindy - no, not at all...
Lilly - Thanks - the kids loved it. They felt as important as they were to the process.
sue - hope not-- my kids were hollering my name through the whole thing because they were so excited
Lilly - Yes, I did summer assessing.
lindy - thanks ginger
aggieb - Lilly what area?
ginger - i bribed my kids not to look at the camera by offering 10 minutes on the playground. After a while, they just ignored it
Patrice (KY) - how about when the children are drawing representations for a particular objective...with a scoring guide used you have measurable results...just a thought
Lilly - As the TIps on Videotaping suggest, put the camera in a few days before so they'll get used to it.
Patrice (KY) - i have tried to decide if i am going to pull my entries out this week and look back over them. I have not looked at them since I mailed them....have any of you kept them tucked away too?
ginger - and don't count on getting a perfect specimen the first taping. Just do it lots and you'll get one you like
aggieb - I think the teachers on this ring should form the Department of Education for the nation
Lilly - EC, although I'm certified in MC (I taught 2nd grade and could've gone either way.) Have you assessed? I met some great people there.
ginger - patrice, i know right where they are, but I put them away last summer after I assessed and decided not to look
ginger - great idea, aggieb. Wouldn't we make better decisions?
Patrice (KY) - ginger...i kept mine with the little profanity and brawl that took place, just to prove it really happens
sue - lilly- where did you assess?
tmw1 - Ha! Just thinking about when I start taping my lessons. I sort of told my kids that there are cameras in the lights taping their behavior for their parents to see. When they see the actual camera in the room, wondering how they will react. : )
aggieb - No, I have not assessed but that is a goal if I pass NB this time aound
Lilly - I kept my lessons and have used the materials again, and shared with other teachers, but I couldn't look at them til I got my scores.
ginger -
sue - aggie- mine, too!
Lilly - Ft Lauderdale
Patrice (KY) - tmw1, everyone of us can share funny (now, but not at the time) incidents that take place. We could do our own version of NB's Funniest Videos. LOL
Becca - I didn't do much for the science just went for the natural flow but for SS I told them them camera was lookin gto see them being kid to each other and that the camera only wanted to watch them talk with each other
Lilly - I recommend it but it takes up 3 weeks of your summer. Bear that in mind.
Becca - they go a kick out of that
ginger - i decided to start a new project for the net two weeks, something to keep my mind busy.
sue - tmw- tape lots-- I went through 8 taping sessions for 2 entries
aggieb - what entry did you assess
ginger - good ideas, becca
sue - oh well lilly.. that means no for me.
aggieb - I told my kids that other teachers wanted to see what a great job we were doing in our class
sue - I may be changing to an 11 month position
tmw1 - Hopefully they will take me seriously. I have a lot of class clowns.
Patrice (KY) - A tip I can share that I realized deep into the process....is look at what you would like to see take place in that 15 minute space of time and make every opportunity available for it to happen...in otherwords, plan a best case scenario and realize that it will have some glitches...but maybe just maybe it will flow like you think it should.
lindy - Lilly, could you tell where the entries were from?
Lilly - On my first and best tape, the media specialist only shot the back of the kids heads, and I heard myself go "SHH" all the time so I couldn't use it. Lesson - place the camera in the right place to get the kids faces. I assessed literacy.
ginger - tmwl, my class clowns were there, and sometimes looked into the camera with a silly face, but that's reality, and real teachers are looking at this, so they know.
tmw1 - And since I tend to keep losing and getting new students constantly, the changes really show up in their behavior.
Lilly - No we didn't.
ginger - tmwl, i had that problem last year, too. This year i've stayed constant....so far
sue - tmw1- just go with the flow. If NB wanted perfect classes no one would certify LOL!
ginger - you can address that in your write up
tmw1 - That's true.
aggieb - I have 22, only 17 are the original class. they just keep coming!!
Lilly - I went on the chat room at NB during the time of my candidacy (I know that's not the right word!) and people said birds flew in to their classroom and bits of roofs fell during their videotaping, but that shouln't affect scoring.
sue - on my ss video what I asked if the kid were ready for more music- two screamed out no!
Becca - I have a lot of the back of kids heads. But the presenter and discussion leaders are visible and you can hear the discussion very well
Patrice (KY) - aggieb, that revolving door can be a headache
Kelly - aggieb - they must have heard how good you are!
tmw1 - I started out with 17, dropped to 15. Then to 12. NOw I am back up to 14.
aggieb - I have looked at several videos of teachers who have certified, and no the videos are not perfect but they show good teaching
sue - I'm losing 1 and gaining 2 in the next 2 weeks
Patrice (KY) - 14!!!!!!!!!!!
Lilly - That's what it's all about, isn't it.
Patrice (KY) - I thought having only 22 this year was a treat.
Becca - !$! i started this year with 30!!!!!!!!!!
sue - I was wondering the same thing
aggieb - Kelly take this serious,, yes,,, they are moving in from other schools as parents share how well my kids are doing..
tmw1 - Heard I might be getting another one to make it 15.
Patrice (KY) - You are one lucky teacher, tmw1.
lindy - should I borrow a small group or whole class for the science entry ?
sue - ok- K max in my parish is 25 with no assistant
aggieb - this is the first year I have had this many students in a LONG time
Kelly - aggieb - I meant it seriously!
Becca - That was supose to be 14! How wonderful do you have any job openings. Just kidding!
Lilly - One thing I did notice assessing - so many teachers around the country had small classes. Where I work, 30 is the norm.
ginger - i'm grateful that i only have 21 right now....
tmw1 - It was wonderful when I only had 12. We got soo much accomplished.
aggieb - I think I would take a leave of absence with 30 five year olds
Kelly - I had never had fewer than 20 until 3 years ago....had 18 that year - and
Patrice (KY) - lindy, you have to make the lesson where all students have the opportunity to do it...but the video can be small group
sue - tmw- are you public or private
sue - the catholic schools here pack them in at 36 per class
aggieb - NC's cap is 24
Becca - gotta run! Nice hearring from you all!
Lilly - We just had a class size issue on the ballot of the recent election, and people voted to reduce class size. The public is sympathetic to what teachers go through and want the best for their kids.
Patrice (KY) - On those days when the flu hits and I am down to 15 or 16 I feel as if I could set the world on fire.
tmw1 - There are only 3 school districts in my county and some private schools. ONly one school with 1st grade in our district with 15 1st grade teachers. I think the most any of us have is 17 or 18.
Kelly - sorry!...I sent my message before I was finished! and 18 last year......but started this year with only 17 and 2 were forced out because they don't really live in our district! Two more might be going because of the same reason!
tmw1 - public
Patrice (KY) - KY's cap is 24, but SBDM can change that if needed.
lindy - patrice, thanks, I never knew that
sue - kelly- you don't issue permits?
ginger - sounds like a great idea, tmwl. That's what California did and they are scrambling to get enough teachers for the smaller classes
Kelly - sue - not from school district to school district. We let kids move within our own district if there is ample room. But the money is allocated by district....so we don't take any for whom we get no tax money!
sue - ours vary parish by parish. orleans has larger class sizes, st charles is smaller
tmw1 - We don't in our state. However we just elected a governor that wants to issue something like that.
lindy - enjoyed the talk -bye
ginger - bye, lindy
Patrice (KY) - Gotta' scoot, gang...Christmas shopping is calling my name. Have a great week and here is hoping next week is celebration time.
sue - kelly- thought you meant school to school. we don't cross district lines either
tmw1 - My school serves k4 through 1st grade.
ginger - bye, patrice, great to talk to you
Lilly - This is my first time in a chat room. Nice to talk with you all!
tmw1 - bye patrice
sue - one a totally different note, WilliamsSonoma has some great specials now!
tmw1 - You too Lilly!
kristi - bye guys, thanks!
ginger - come again, soon, lilly
Kelly - Bye to all who are leaving!
aggieb - Lilly, please come back,, we will need your expertise
Lilly - Thanks, I'd love to. Bye and best of luck!
sue - just bought an All-Clas saucepan for $20 normally 84!
tmw1 - I need to leave myself to get ready for a cookout for my brothers bday.
tmw1 - Talk to everyone next week. Good luck.
ginger - sue, it's a healthy thing to think of something other than NB, so have fun!
ginger - bye all......gotta go
Kelly - Hi Cinnamom - welcome!
Cinnamom - hi... first time here
Kelly - Bye ginger!
aggieb - I had so much fun playing with my scores on Excell, I made myself believe I had passed.)
sue - ginger I did. I bought 5 Christmas presents today!
Cinnamom - i am actually working on MC
aggieb - :<
Cinnamom - does anyone know when they meet?
Kelly - aggieb - that's great to play with them!
sue - I think I did! I think I did! I think I did! Repeat after me Aggie
aggieb - But I can't make them real!!
Kelly - Cinnamom - there is another chat in here tonight for NBPTS in general...no specific certificate area. As far as I know there is no scheduled chat exclusively for MC=GEN. Have you joined any of their mailrings?
sue - Geppeto could maybe we can too LOL!
aggieb - Oh ,, I did make it at least a certain percentage of the way,, maybe not 100% but I am getting there..
Cinnamom - no, i haven't... how might i do that, kelly?
sue - aggie- did you get my latest email?
Cinnamom - any advice you can give me would be appreciated
sue - cinnamon- the requirements are so different from EC
Kelly - Cinnamom - you can go to wizzlewolf.com and click on National Board. She has all the groups listed. There are several that are MC-GEN....some allow chatting outside the specific issues of the portfolio (like other classroom issues) but one of them wants the messages to stick to the NBPTS issues. Not sure which is which.....
Kelly - Hi Becky - welcome!
Becky - Hi, everyone! I haven't logged in since I submitted my portfolio.
Kelly - Becky - long time no see!
Cinnamom - thanks, kelly... you're a gem
Kelly - Cinnamom - joining a mailring is a great help usually! Everyone there is involved in exactly the same thing!
sue - hey becky-- how are you surviving the wait?
Becky - I'm waiting for my scores!
Becky - I can't stand it much longer! I just want to know!
sue - well,I;m going to find a recipe for pumpkin soup. see you later
sue - have a good night
Kelly - Hey there Becca - welcome back! Have you gotten over the trip yet?
Cinnamom - looks like a good website... thanks for your help... bye
Becky - Have you heard from a lot of anxious people lately? Do you know when they will post the scores?
Kelly - I really thought it would be today. But they have stuck with the 'end of November/beginning of December' line - even in San Diego they said that.........
Becky - Have the newbies started yet?
aggieb - Just maybe on Monday, NB will post a specific date
Becca - I had Monday off and went for a MASSAGE! Best thing I could have done fro my stress level!
Becky - Aggieb, are you waiting, too?
Becca - I'm a newbie and will be DONE in 12 weeks! I hope
aggieb - Yes, Becky,
Becky - 12 weeks! Wow!
Kelly - Becky - oh yes! We have a large group of newbies! aggieb - I certainly hope they do as soon as they know. It's so much better to know specifically when to expect them! Becca - that sounds great! I had to go right back...and we had parent conferences Thursday evening and Friday!
Kelly - Becca has actually taken the AC already!
Becky - I think I remember chatting with you last winter.
aggieb - Becca, good for you,, You go girl!!!
Becky - Good luck, Becca! Where are you from?
Becca - I'm in Raleigh NC
aggieb - It was an experience,, that 's about all one can say, isn't it!
Becca - Where are you?
Becky - I thought it was great! It really energized my teaching.
Becky - I'm in Maine!
Becca - The AC feels like year ago right now...
Becky - The AC was the least exciting part of the process!
aggieb - beca. when did you take it?
bruppert - Hey girls how are you all?
Becky - Hi, bruppert! Long time since I've been here. How are you?
Becca - I took it at the end of July!
bruppert - Got a minute and thought I would see what was up?

Kelly - Hi bruppert! how are you????
aggieb - Don't remind me. everytime I got by that place I get butterflies!!
Becky - I used all the time available. I didn't really feel it was anything you could really prepare for.
bruppert - Doing just fine and dandy!!
Becky - I have no idea how I did.
Kelly - Becca - I think you and aggieb are both in NC, right?
bruppert - Yes, AggieB you were very nervous about all of this but we all lived through now if we can all pass.
Becca - I am! Where are you from Aggie?
aggieb - Right,, and I wish I had not studied,, I would have probably been more at ease. that is my opinion.. I would have workde for me not to have studied.
aggieb - I am from NC,, east coast near Wilmington
Becky - How the school year going for all of you.
Becky - Is it nice in NC today? We had snow today.
aggieb - My year is going great,, having a wonderful year.. doing lots of interesting theme based projects
bruppert - NO Aggie, you had to do your thing your way and you will be fine, I am sure of that !!! You were fun to watch and such a great mind you have.
Becca - GRAY, GRAy and RAIn. I feel like I have moved back to Wahington State this fall. We need the rain but enough is enough
aggieb - NC is not having nice weather
Becky - I thought it would be so relaxing without the pressure of NBC, but the year is just whizzing by. I have great, adorable kids. I teach second grade.
bruppert - VA is a rainy day too and we need it to get the water table up any ways
Kelly - It's gray and rainy here, too. I really need to go....I'll talk to you all on the ring! Have a good week! Maybe we'll know something NEXT Saturday!
aggieb - Becca you have gained a lot of knowledge by hanging around this group.. I did the same before I became a candidate
aggieb - This is an awesome group
Becky - One thing I learned from the process is Inquiry Science. It is addictive! I can't seem to settle for neat, tidy science lessons anymore.
bruppert - Yes, this group is wonderful and such good people to learn from.
aggieb - Becky, I agree,
bruppert - well I better go and get dinner ready, be good and see you on the ring.
aggieb - Science has never been the same since i learned how to do it the inquiry way
Becky - Bye, bruppert!
aggieb - at least I hope I did.. Let the scores speak for themselve
aggieb - I have to run also.. good-bye
Becky - My children are so curious. I feel so manipulative. Their curiosity is the best classroom management tool I have.
Becky - Good luck aggieb! I'll look for you on the list.
Becca - I agree! We are doing rocks now. i gotta go! Talk to you soon!
Becca - by agie an dbecky!
