sue - hi perri
Perri - Hope I remember how to use this
Kelly M - Hi Perri - how are you today?
Perri - Hi Kelly! Great! Just thought I would participate since I have a few minutes
Kelly M - Good! Are you a candidate or already certified?
Perri - I just certified. Want to help others if I can.
sue - congrats perri! I'm a new NBCT, too
Kelly M - Hi Sue - welcome! And congratulations to BOTH of you! That's terrific!
Perri - I'm still pinching myself and logging on to the website to still make sure it's true
sue - perri- just got my score reports yesterday
sue - LOL! I want to frame them
Perri - Me too. Not too pleased with some, but I know where I need to go from here.
sue - there were 3 of us who certified this year. principal presented us with a sign to place outside our doors
Perri - Hey admin
Kelly M - Perri - that's SO true! You see....this sets you into a pattern where you KNOW you're never 'done'!!
Kelly M - Hi admin.wannabe - how are you today?
admin. wanna be - am i interupting
sue - it's huge! LOL! way tacky but the thought was nice
admin. wanna be - are there veteran teachers in here
Kelly M - Admin - we are here to help our candidates....but none are here yet. So good ahead! Ask away - yes, we're veteran teachers...
Perri - I'm a 20 yr vet
sue - admin- if 11 yrs is considered veteran
admin. wanna be - wow
Kelly M - Hmmmm...I started teaching in 1969. I'm old!
admin. wanna be - ok...i'm of course workin on my masters and one of the short papers i'm to turn in is the topic of things to consider when developing a class schedule....ie 7 period..... ican't find the info on the net
admin. wanna be - you can point me in the right direction with an address if you want
sue - did you try time management, block scheduled
Perri - That's why I don't want to be and administrator. I want to play with the kids!!
admin. wanna be - no because the school im at is 7 period and i wanted some info in that area if possible
sue - kelly- I beleive the term is " seasoned".
Kelly M - How about doing a google search for 'school administrators'?
admin. wanna be - done it
admin. wanna be - i'm worn out from looking
Perri - I was going to say that sue, just didn't know how it would sound
sue - or post the question to the admin chat board
Kelly M - sue - LOL....someone recently was talking about how some people get burned out...but others of us just get crispy! I hope I'm the latter!
admin. wanna be - sorry if i offended any one
admin. wanna be - oops anyone
sue - kelly- I like that! crisy around the edges
DebbieD - HI everybody - Kelly, had any good lunches lately?
Kelly M - admin - no offense taken! can't think of anything else to tell you! I'm sure there are lots of admin pages on the web, though! Hi DebbieD! How was your week?
admin. wanna be - what about topic 2....develop an effective communication plan for reaching your teachers and parents
sue - this is going to be an interesting week. It's my last week in the classroom.....
admin. wanna be - at the elem. and secondary level
Kelly M - DebbieD - none so good as the company I was lucky enough to share lunch with last Saturday!
DebbieD - My week went well, gave a science test to 80 5th graders and they did well!
admin. wanna be - ok...i'm prying in ...i'm sorry .....thanks for your help
Perri - admin... we send weekly newsletters as a grade level and our administrators email us frequently
Kelly M - Sue - why your last week?
sue - kelly- didn't I tell you? I'm going to central office as the Pre-K resource teacher for all the programs
Kelly M - sue - I'm sorry! If you did tell me, I had forgotten! How are you feeling about that now that it's happening?
Perri - What does a prek resource teacher do
DebbieD - I really can't stay. I've got tons of Christmas baking and 80 5th grade animal projects to grade. To say nothing of organizing the next science unit, which starts on Tuesday.
sue - kelly- I'm excited
DebbieD - Everybody have a great week, and send some snow to northern Minnesota!
Kelly M - DebbieD - at least you GOT all the animal projects!
Perri - I know the feeling. I have a million things to grade too!
sue - perri- teacher training, modeling lessons, grant writing, part of school improvement teams
Kelly M - sue - do you think you'll be able to work in the classrooms?...or is it more of a desk job?
Perri - So you are part of the central office personnel now?
DebbieD - Kelly, you're right, no sympathy for me - I assigned it!
Kelly M - DebbieD - one of the blessings of being in first grade is to NOT have those type of projects to grade!
sue - perri- pretty much
Perri - I teach 3rd grade. Have thought of admin, but I love being with the kids so much
sue - kelly- it's about an even split, classroom teacher support and office
DebbieD - Kelly, that is true, but I'm enjoying this change. We did literature circles this week, and I loved the conversations about books, and the way they policed each other if the work wasn't done!
sue - perri- it took me a long time to even decide to apply
sue - any ideas on how to help some advanced candidates who are very discouraged kelly?
DebbieD - Gotta go - Kelly I wore your pin every day this week. It felt like a hug from you every time I put it on!
Kelly M - DebbieD - that IS one of the benefits to the older grades! They can do SUCH different things! Sue - are you feeling more excited or more sorry to leave the little ones?
Perri - Debbie, I agree with you about the older kids. I taught K and 1st for 18 years and now 3rd. I love the fact that they can do so much more. It's probably because I'm getting older!
Kelly M - DebbieD - it WAS a hug from me! Glad you're wearing it!...you EARNED it!
sue - kelly- it's a mix. I'll still get to see my kids because I'll being doing support at the school
Kelly M - Sue - the biggest thing is to be supportive and encouraging. Then follow through with doing whatever you can to help them achieve!
sue - I'm just a little worried because my replacement has never caught babies
Kelly M - Sue - LOL....'caught' babies?
Kelly M - Sue - let me know if a personal word from me about my experience would help!
Perri - I have a colleague who is also very discouraged. She has alot of points to make up, is in the middle of Spec. degree prog. and has 2 young kids.
Perri - Hi Ketsy. Cute name
Patrice in KY - hi gang...wow...much smaller group today...people must be out shopping.
sue - oops taught
Kelly M - Hi Ketsy - how are you today? And hi Patrice! Welcome!
sue - kelly- I might ask you to email her
Patrice in KY - hi Kelly M..how are you
Perri - That's where I should be since I've only bought 4 presents
Kelly M - Perri - if you think I can help encourage her (him?), let me know. Having been a banker myself it sometimes helps them to hear from me!
Patrice in KY - Perri, I pretty much finished this morning. My husband and I are going on a trip this week and I felt pressed to get things pulled together.
Kelly M - Patrice - just fine, thanks! Trying to keep up with everything....but that's become my normal state!
Perri - I really think that her best bet would be to consider using her 2 yrs left to get the points. She can do it, she just may need more time than one year
Patrice in KY - Sue, I just got a private message from you that I think may have been headed to Kelly.
sue - patrice- sorry! computer gremlins are at work
Patrice in KY - No problem Sue....seems the norm lately. LOL
Patrice in KY - Kelly, how is the banker ring coming along
Kelly M - Oh yes....I've reported it to teachers.net - but don't use the private message feature! It IS haywire!
sue - this is great to be able to communicate. I totally lost my voice this morning!!!!
Kelly M - Sue - just email me at lkelly46@cs.com ....I'll answer!
Kelly M - Patrice - it's coming along fine. Tons of support there!
Perri - Kelly, I will tell my friend about you. I don't want her to quit.
Kelly M - Perri - those banking years are there for a reason!
Patrice in KY - Kelly, I really miss hearing from some of the people on that ring.
sue - I asked for and got the stats from my state-- 153 attempted, 19 of those were bankers and 85 certified
Perri - Sue, Where are you from?
Patrice in KY - sue, who did you ask?
sue - wait, there's now a seperate bankers ring?!
sue - La
sue - the dept of professional accountability at my SDE
Patrice in KY - KY had 204 certify which is a great number for our state.
Patrice in KY - hey newbie jones
Kelly M - Sue - of those 85 who certified, how many were bankers? You have to pull them out to get 'passing' rates....
sue - we only have 170 in the state total
sue - hi newbie
Ketsy - I am wondering if there are any ideas to help a banker whom I supervise. She is the best and never asks for anything.
Kelly M - Hi Newbie Jones - welcome! Sue - there has been a banker ring for the past two years.....started when there were two separate formats we were talking about - the 'old' generation and the 'new' one.
sue - kelly- not sure. I only know of 1 locally
Patrice in KY - Kelli, how many people are on the banker's ring?
sue - kelly- I'll have to tell my friend
Patrice in KY - Hey, Newbie...I just got your latest email...I will try to download it now.
Newbie Jones - Hi there! This is a new thing for me!
Perri - Ketsy, tell her about ECGen list and this site...and be there to support her...as I'm sure you already are
Kelly M - Ketsy - have her check out the banker ring (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EC_GENbankers/ ) . They're VERY supportive of one another...and many of the regular mentors on the 'big' ring are on the banker ring, too!
Kelly M - Patrice - over 225 on it now! ... and growing every day....
Patrice in KY - HEY Bruppert!
Newbie Jones - I have worked all day on this video analysis and I forgot to eat!
Kelly M - Hi there bruppert! How are you today? I hope you've had a good week!
Patrice in KY - Kelly, Wow!! I have some people I want to send that direction
Kelly M - Newbie Jones - be thankful for the not eating part! Many of us worked hard and ATE throughout the process!
Patrice in KY - Do you need certified people to pop in too?
BRuppert - Every week is a good week, yes I had a super week. It snowed and we missed 2 days of school
sue - newbie- you may be the first ECGEN candidate to loose weight during the process!
Perri - That would be me...I have joined weight watchers with my certification raise
Newbie Jones - I guess you are right!
Kelly M - Patrice - anyone who wants to be supportive is welcome on the banker ring. We have many NBCTs on it....the same ones who are supportive on the 'big' ring.
BRuppert - Hey Patrice, thanks for the kind emails, you are so thoughtful. When I come to KY I will look you up
sue - bruppert- do you have snow days built into your schedule?
Newbie Jones - Kids don't care how big or small you are. You are still important to them.
Patrice in KY - I think I will sign up for that one too. Like I said, I have many friends from the main ring who are there and I miss, miss, miss hearing their words of wisdom.
Ketsy - Here is what I've done so far. I've met with our 3 assistant superintendents, tried to explain everything (or as much as I can understand) to our Board of Ed. there isn't really an understanding. My worry isn't so much in supporting her directly, but supporting her process through the organization. Are there any promotional materials to help get the point across?
Patrice in KY - Bruppert...I will hold you to that!!!
Perri - Kelly, I would love to help on the bankers ring. I feel that I owe this group alot.
BRuppert - Now Kelly-- if I want to visit you should I come to St. Louis MO or will you come to MN?
sue - newbie- so true byt like Kelly said many of us ate our way through MB
BRuppert - Sue, yes, we have days built in about 5 days
Kelly M - Perri - everyone is welcome! It's no pity party, though! We there to be moving forward! Everyone has to go through the 'grieving' process more or less....but they're still there because they want to move on.
sue - ketsy- there's a thing to admis on the main page I printed out
Newbie Jones - I'd gain weigth if it would help me pass....ice cream Patrice?
Patrice in KY - Hey newbie....you are witness to my weight gain. LOL....
Patrice in KY - To all out there, newbie jones is a teaching colleage of mine...she is just around the corner from my classroom.
sue - bruppert- was just wondring. we have hurricane days but will still need to make up 3 days in june
Kelly M - Ketsy - email me and I'll help all I can. (lkelly46@cs.com) bruppert....my home is in St. Louis, but I'm in Minnesota often! (my daughter lives there...and I love it there!)
Perri - Newbie, listen to Patrice!!!
BRuppert - Patrice, I will get on the banker ring too, I jsut need to get my emails down to a managable number I have 500 right now.
Newbie Jones - Hey now that I know whay LOL means I did it too! You did not gain weight! Did you get my draft Patrice?
Ketsy - Sue, I'm sorry, I don't understand - on the main page I printed out?
BRuppert - Sue where do you live?
Kelly M - Ah - KETSY!!! I just realized who you are! Sorry!...it takes my mind a while to catch up! I'm seriously GOING to start that administrator's ring!
Patrice in KY - ouch, BRuppert...that is alot of reading.
Perri - Bye everyone! Singing in a Christmas Concert tonight. Need to primp!!!
BRuppert - Kelly my son has is n laws in MO
Newbie Jones - I DO listen to her every chance I get. She IS such a good friend to me!
sue - ketsy- the NB page-- all about us.... I printed it
sue - new orleans
sue - brb gonna find the link for you
Patrice in KY - Yes, Lisa....the download was successful time!!! YAY!
BRuppert - Wowie Sue, are the Sue that helped me with Children's Play?
Kelly M - bruppert - hey - I seem to ALWAYS be behind! There just are times I can't read them all in one day...so they build up! But I eventually get caught up. There's never been a message I didn't read on any of the rings I started!
Patrice in KY - Kelly, you must live at your computer when you are not at school
Ketsy - Kelly, I'll do anything I can. This is now a mission for me. I have learned more in the last year than in all of the previous 21 years. Watching this excellent teacher stretch herself (and me) beyond belief has given me soo much enthusiasm.
Newbie Jones - I think that I will go for now and eat some brunch.or lupper? It was alot of fun! Call me Patrice Hope the shopping was fun!
Kelly M - LOL .... not always...but sometimes that's the truth!
Patrice in KY - happy eating newbie.
BRuppert - Kelly only once did I delete any and then I had over 800 and I just couldn't do it.
Patrice in KY - Kelly, so what is this about an admisitrator's ring?
Kelly M - Ketsy - will you be my resident administrator on that new ring? Anyone who knows me would tell you I don't often see things from the perspective of administration!
Kelly M - Patrice - as if I need some more mailrings...I'm about to launch two more! One will be for administrators who have teachers who are going through the process!
Patrice in KY - that should be "administrator's"...I sure do miss spell check on here.
Patrice in KY - OH HOW WONDERFUL
Ketsy - Absolutely, but I'm not sure I would be the best to do it because I've not gone through the process myself. Let me know what to do and I'm there
Patrice in KY - Please let me know asap when it is set up. I have a wonderfully supportive principal and I feel certain she would be interested.
Patrice in KY - hi Dana
Kelly M - Hi Dana - how are you?
Kelly M - Ketsy - please do email me so I put your email address in my address book! (please?!) lkelly46@cs.com
Patrice in KY - Kelly, you said TWO new mailrings...what is the second one to be?
sue - kelly- the admin thing is needed. mine had no clue all year
Kelly M - Patrice - I will post to the EC-GEN mailring when I get it up and running. I just think it would help them to talk to each other and hear what others are doing in the way of support.
Ketsy - my email is astepbackint@aol.com.
Patrice in KY - I think that is a wonderful idea, Kelly. You are so thoughtful and insightful.
Dana - Hi Ladies!!! I am trying to read and see what's up! LOL
sue - well, time for a nap or I won't be at wrok monday
sue - night all
Patrice in KY - have a good nap, sue
Kelly M - Sue - I agree!...so MANY administrators are in the dark. I have a brand new principal this year...and he is wonderful! However, he doesn't know anythign about NBPTS....and noone else in our district does, either. They just don't care. It's nothing here.
Patrice in KY - I have to scoot too. My husband and I leave for Italy on Tuesday...much to do before then.
Kelly M - Ketsy - got it....thanks! Patrice - the second one is to organize the Missouri NBCTs....another of my pushes this year!
Dana - Italy??? Wow!
Patrice in KY - Yes, a business trip for him...fun for me.
Kelly M - Patrice - have a great time!
BRuppert - Sue are you the Sue that helped with Childre's Play?
Dana - Kelly, NBPTS needs to hire you on their public relations/education stafff!
Patrice in KY - Will do!! Everyone have a great week! bye
Dana - Have a safe trip Patrice - what kind of work is your husband in?
Kelly M - Dana - they have plenty of folks already! I just do what I can on the side!
Dana - Yes, but you deserve pay for all you do to help the cause!
Kelly M - The advantage to them having their own pr people is that THOSE folks actually know what they're doing instead of me, who is just shooting inthe dark!
BRuppert - Kelly does get pay we all love her so !!
Dana - Well, you sure 'hit the mark' with the Ec_gen ring!
Kelly M - Everyone on those rings make them the successes they are! Not me!
Kelly M - So bruppert - how's Danny?
BRuppert - Dong much better Thanks for asking, he is on the mend and I am deciding which portfolios I will redo
Kelly M - bruppert - go for the ones that satisfy two requirements.....1) that will offer you the most points to gain! and 2) something you feel comfortable tackling again!
BRuppert - I did as you suggested Kelly went online and did the figures with my scores. REally neat idea, whoever came up with that was smart.
Ketsy - The one thing that has happened in my district is that I have written a proposal to link our strategic plan. We have a new superintendent (last monday to be exact) and I think we have a chance. I live in western NY, we're just beginning. If anyone has an administrator who is just beginning I would love to tell him/her about the things we've tried, but we have so far to go.
Dana - The administration in my district shows no interest in NB - it is sad.
Kelly M - Ketsy - but that's exactly the encouragement new people need!
Dana - My husband is due any minute and TJ is in town and will be here soon. Hope you all have a good chat! Bye.
BRuppert - In our area we have more people working on NB because they offered classes in supporting it, It has been really neat around here.
Kelly M - One of my district's administrators was at a meeting and heard someone talk about NBPTS. She called him later and asked if he could come and present at an in-service for our district teachers. She never THOUGHT to call and ask me to! The guy laughed, and told her to call me...that I do a lot of that around our city!
Ketsy - Dana, do you think they would be willing to find out? Honestly, I really have learned sooo much. Not just about NB's, but what I can give to other teachers. It's like the "Big Idea" for administrators.
BRuppert - So do you think it will work Ketsy?
Kelly M - Ketsy - I love it! The 'big idea' for administrators! That's terrific!
Kelly M - I'm going to try to see what nbpts can provide me that I can upload into files on the new admin ring. I know somebody who has been involved with nbpts since it's beginning....and I'm going to ask him for advice of the type of thing I should make available.....think about any suggestions you may have!
aggieb - Hi everybody
Kelly M - Hey aggieb - welcome!
bruppert - somehow I got kicked off sorry
bruppert - Hey aggieb, I was just thinking I needed to bug you some more!!
aggieb - How are things going for everyone
Kelly M - just fine, aggieb - and you?
bruppert - Fine and dandy!!
bruppert - How about you? Did you get any snow ?
aggieb - I am fine, very busy, but fine
aggieb - My area is clear but a bit to the west of my is just awful
aggieb - Chapel Hill where my daughter is in school is in terible shape
Ketsy - The best thing is that the 5 core propositions provide an exact connection with what we should be doing with/for our teachers. The other night on "the ring", someone relayed something about teaching and the lightbulb went off. I changed it in my head to good administrators assess their teacher progress, reflect on their teaching and make changes to better meet the needs of their teachers.
bruppert - Hey Kelly when I am looking at what I want to retake do you mind if I get your opinion of my idea?
bruppert - Yeah my two of my brother are in Charlotte.
aggieb - bruppert , let me k now if I can help after you decide on the entries
bruppert - OH I plan to pick your brain and your mind , thanks for the offer too.
aggieb - That's what friends are for,
Kelly M - bruppert - my ear is yours anytime! Ketsy - I think that's a GREAT idea! I never thought of it that way!
bruppert - So If I pick Kelly and aggieb's brain just think I might make it LOL
Kelly M - Hi jewel - how are you today?
bruppert - Thanks so much Kelly you are so special
jewel - HI, kelly, sorry couldn't figure out how to elarge screen
bruppert - Kelly did you have fun meeting Patsi? She said she had fun and I think you already knew DebbieinDuluth right
jewel - finally home on a sat to join part of chat
jewel - HOw is everyone doing? I finished writing and typing out entry 4 but have way too many pages! Need to do some deletion, I am working on SS all this week and next
aggieb - It is funny how saturdays are planned around the chat group
Kelly M - bruppert - Debbie from Duluth and I have been communicating for several years....first on the first grade mailring here on teachers.net .... then got her started in EC-GEN! But we had never met face to face! So that was fun. I've gotten to be with Lori from MN on several occasionsl.....even was in her classroom several years ago. And I had never met Patsi. So the four of us had a great time!
bruppert - Yes aggieb, for me too, I did everything around beinghome by 4 even today
jewel - COme down to New Orleans!
Kelly M - jewel - it's good to put entry four away and go back to look at it later to edit!
bruppert - OH Kelly, I was there in spirit too, Patsi said so several times.
aggieb - Jewel, Now that you have your thoughts down, reread it,, It was easier for me to rewrite for clarity and conciseness , instead of trying to edit. It took less time in some cases.
Ketsy - Would anyone be able to tell me the 3 most supportive things which their administrators do/did for them?
jewel - yes that is prob what i will do. working hard on SS, What i wanted to know is if Holidays around the world, Winter Holidays around the world or Christmas Customs around the world which is better? Christmas doesn' make sense as I taught Hanukkah and Kwanza
aggieb - Yes, putting it down does help also.. it seems as if it is too fresh on your mind to edit
Kelly M - bruppert - that's because we were all talking about how we wanted to encourage you!
bruppert - For me my administrator wrote a letter of recommendation, asked how I was doing several times and gave me permission to go to workshops in the area.
Kelly M - Ketsy - that's an excellent question to ask on the ring.....have people send their responses to you...and you could collect them! If you'd share them I'd put them in a file on the new ring!
bruppert - Kelly that makes me very happy and I do feel encouraged. Thanks a million!
Kelly M - In San Diego they presented several (maybe 3?) awards to administrators who had gone above and beyond the call of duty to be supportive of nbpts candidates. One subbed in the candidates' rooms in his building...to give them more time to write!
jewel - my principal cares mostly about "how she looks". So she wants a Certified teacher but hasn't done much for me except the initial letter of reccomendation so I could receive state funding. I am hoping to ask for an extra proffessional day as I want to take one to write as my date gets closer and then later one to visit a 3rd grade and pre k the 2 grades I haven't taught , so I could prepare a bit better for test
Kelly M - jewel - good planning!
bruppert - jewel you will like the extra day, it was good for me. too
jewel - She did anounce at " open house " that I was going for Nat, Cert. and how much work I was undertaking LOL. Like the parents even cared! She also put it on the agenda for opening of school
bruppert - well I better get going as my grandbaby is coming to my house soon and I hav eto help my mother who is legally blind, so see you girls later. I will email you later on Kelly and aggieb. SEe you guys later
jewel - but she tried to place me in 5th grade. she likes to play games with the teachers and we were not sure 3 teachers were needed in 2nd... she did this knowing i was doing ECE! I was soo mad, I called Union and Personnel to see about transfer so I could do ECE. Luckyly everything worked out. I think she backed down once she saw I would not change my certifcation area
Kelly M - Actually, I need to be going, too. I hope everyone has a great week! I'll be in touch, ketsy!
jewel - bye B
Ketsy - Thank you all so much for your help. I have learned soo much from all of you. Kelly, thank you for your creativeness and energy. Please let me know what to do next.
jewel - i will go too, Seeya'll on the ring, it is such a help
Ketsy - Goodbye for today
