dlvlly - hi everyone
Jan in Va - have any of you been to the AC
dlvlly - Are you new candidates?
Jan in Va - 2001-2002 here, test on Monday
Jan in Va - you
dlvlly - I took the AC a week ago today.
Jan in Va - how was it
Jan in Va - i'm getting nervous
dlvlly - I wasn't nervous, got a good night's sleep, but I think I blew it . Too many questions, too little time. Not enough time to formulate good answers. Many of my answers were off the cuff and looking back, I don't think they were that good.
Jan in Va - ugh-that's what I was afraid of
dlvlly - Patti are you testing too?
Jan in Va - tried a couple of the practice tests today and they were hard
dlvlly - which practice tests?
Jan in Va - everyone says there is just not enough time
Jan in Va - the iowa site
Jan in Va - which did you find the most difficult?
dlvlly - I tried to keep my answers to each question at about 10 mins as most had 3 questions to answer
Jan in Va - yeah, plus yopu have to read, digest and think
Jan in Va - did you get tired
dlvlly - For me the behavior questions and the transition questions were the easiest. The most difficult was the Social Studies and professional jargon. Health was pretty difficult too.
dlvlly - I don't think I got tired, I use the computer alot, so 3 hours wasn't that long.
Jan in Va - yeah, i would think the first 2 would be straight forward, the rest are more content related and we don't do a lot of that
dlvlly - What do you teach?
Jan in Va - how was science/math-i know you can be specific, just general
Jan in Va - i'm resource at the elementary level
Jan in Va - mostly do reading and writing
Jan in Va - how about you
Jan in Va - think i'll be glad when it is over
Jan in Va - where are you from
dlvlly - The science one wasn't too bad, but involved a disability I am not too familiar with. I was able to come up with a plan for the topic, just not sure how good it was based on the modifications needed for the disability.
Jan in Va - what do you teach dl
Jan in Va - thinking about it
dlvlly - I teach violence prevention (last 10 years) so I've been out of the loop for a while.
Jan in Va - what level?
Jan in Va - just visiting
dlvlly - I teach reading and writing to LLD students in the summer and tutor a HS student who has difficulty with organizational skills during the school year also.
Jan in Va - over 20 here
Jan in Va - so your still somewhat in the loop, where are yoou from
dlvlly - I teach students in grades 6 through 12 who have received long term suspensions in my district, both regular and special education students.
jp - working on a master degree in computer this summer
Jan in Va - challenging dl
dlvlly - I'm form MA. just did away with the NBPTS incentives two weeks ago.
wizzlewolf - Hi everybody! Having a great summer?
Jan in Va - i go to AC monday, any words of wisdom
Jan in Va - studying
wizzlewolf - Yes! Breath deep, wiggle in your chair to stretch, and keep telling yourself: I CAN DO THIS, I CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!
Jan in Va - heard that dl, also heard they were trying to reinstate, same thing happened in virginia and the new govenor reinstated most of it
Jan in Va - i will try
wizzlewolf - Stress is the worse thing that can get you when you go to the AC. Walk in like you own the place!
dlvlly - That would be nice, I think it my have had an affect on my AC performance, but I figured I'd gone this far, why not?
Jan in Va - true
dlvlly - Have you tried the tutorial at the nbpts site? It was helpful to become familiar with how the screens work.
wizzlewolf - I think that is just aweful. I get so ticked when I hear incentives are taken away!
dlvlly - They did keep the new teacher sign on bonus (20,000) though!
dlvlly - What area are you testing in?
wizzlewolf - Yeah, that isn't surprising! Pretty soon NEW teachers will make more than the teachers that have been in the trenches for years.!
dlvlly - I understand how they are trying to recruit new teachers, but many of them don't stay. It pretty sad that they don't respect us more. I don't know if I would have signed on to do this if the incentives were not there.
dlvlly - Have you been to the AC yet?
wizzlewolf - Well, the only way the legislators will get the message is when NB teachers start leaving the state.
wizzlewolf - dl, are you asking me if I went to the AC???
dlvlly - Yes, have you tested yet?
wizzlewolf - I am already certified. I did NB in 1999.
dlvlly - Has it changed much since you went through the process?
wizzlewolf - No, not really. The format is a bit different, but overall it is the same ole, same ole.
dlvlly - I think they improved the AC as far as the set up goes, from what I've heard anyway.
wizzlewolf - How so?
dlvlly - Mirkp, where are you in the process?
smudgy - hello to all has the chat started?
dlvlly - The AC now has a screen where you can see the see the senerio, read the questions, and type all at the same time.
wizzlewolf - It was that way when I took it.
dlvlly - Hi smudgy, yes, about an hour ago.
smudgy - sorry am in Arizona time
dlvlly - You didn't have to keep scrolling back?
wizzlewolf - I don't think so. That was never a problem for me.
smudgy - huh? I don't think so.
dlvlly - I found the whole process very subjective. My support group was helpful, but told me to keep my writing (in the portfolio) simple. I found that hard to do...it is not the way I write.
dlvlly - Wizz, I think your test was longer too, wasn't it?
dlvlly - Smudgy, where are you in the process?
smudgy - Of becoming a teacher? Already one.
dlvlly - Are you a NBPTS candidate?
smudgy - no is this chat room about that?
wizzlewolf - Oh yes, much longer, but fewer sections.
dlvlly - Are you looking for the reading chat?
smudgy - teh exceptional needs
dlvlly - I'm not sure if this chat is only for NBPTS candidates and those who have the certification. Are you thinking of applying?
dlvlly - Wizz was certified in 1999 and I just completed the process last week. Now comes the loooong wait until November.
dlvlly - well, it is getting late. Have a nice evening. good luck to all who are going to the ac next week. bye
