Barb/2/NE *Host* - Sher, it's St Mary's Press, let me pull it up
Sher - ok
Barb/2/NE *Host* - http://www.smp.org/hs/Resources.cfm
Sher - thank you
TAM - How is lent going?
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Sher, lots of good stuff, just have to poke around and look
Dr. D - Is there anyone in this chat from a Christian school?
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Hi Tam! Great! Our theme is God's Life Giving Waters!
Sher - i am, we are Lutheran based
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Dr. D, I'm at a Catholic School
TAM - I teach in a Catholic school but I am not Catholic if that helps Dr. D.
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Dr. D, doing a survey???
TAM - Very Interesting!
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Tam, what grade?
TAM - Fifth and Sixth grade science only
Dr. D - Barb - no I am not doing a survey. Just came for a look.
TAM - I just started in December.
TAM - Any Advice?
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Dr. D, this meeting room has different times for different groups, in 15 minutes, the NBPTS exceptional needs candidates come in
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Tam, how's it going so far?
Sher - what state are you in Dr. D
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Tam, 5th and 6th graders are loads of fun! I have 2 sons that are in that grade~
TAM - Pretty well. Only 1 major discipline problem and I think I have it corrected. It's just so hard not knowing what they did before I arrived this year.
Dr. D - I am in northern New Jersey. I have been in the same school for 23 years! It has been great.
Sher - I am interested in findint out how you folks deal with discipline,
TAM - I agree they are loads of fun, but they are also loads of confusion I don't think they understand what's going on with them either.
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Tam, do you have a textbook? My husband teaches HS science, and he just assumes that his students come in with zero knowledge, because they are all over the place!
TAM - Yes I have a textbook. Any specific questions about it?
Barb/2/NE *Host* - TAM, his philosophy is keep them curious and interested, and you have done a good job!
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Sher, your discipline question would be answered better on the chatboard, more time for people to outline how they handle things on the chatboard, have you been there?
Sher - no
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Dr. D, wow! That's great, continuity(sp?) is a good thing for a school!
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Sher, let me give you the link, one moment.......
Barb/2/NE *Host* - http://teachers.net/mentors/private/
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Private/Parochial teacher's chatboard, bookmark it and visit often!
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Bye Sher, nice to meet you!
Sher - you too, you have been very resourceful
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Tam, how big are your classes? Do you have access to a lab?
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Just wondering what grade you teach?
Dr. D - Barb, I am the principal, but I also do a little teaching. I teach a few junior high classes.
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Oh, Dr. D, I see......did you see the site I got on my scripture workshop today? It's from St Mary's Press
Dr. D - No, I did not see that. What was it about?
Barb/2/NE *Host* - http://www.smp.org/hs/Resources.cfm
TAM - My classes are small About 25 each. I do have limited access to a lab.
Barb/2/NE *Host* - This site is set up for the High School students, but it has many prayer services and articles for teachers on it
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Tam, I know that my own children love being in the lab!
TAM - Evidently
TAM - I don't know if my students have the self-discipline to handle it. Know what I mean?
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Tam, My husband also felt that the grade school children should get the sciences that they won't get in HS, like ecology or earth sciences, etc.
TAM - I agree. It's just so hard to fit everything in when trying to cover what you know they will be tested over.
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Tam, lots of structure, my son says that when they go into lab, they all are assigned jobs, like a recorder, investigator, manager, reporter, etc
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Tam, oh yes, the BIG tests! Nebraska is not on the big band wagon, yet, we still have local control over our testing
Barb/2/NE *Host* - ss, welcome to the Private/Parochial teacher's chat!
TAM - That's sounds like a plan. I'll try it. It will just take me a little while to organize myself.
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Tam, looks like the next group is coming in! Nice to meet you!
TAM - you too. thanks. bye.
Barb/2/NE *Host* - good bye!~
Barb/2/NE *Host* - Ok, the room is yours! The private/Parochial teacher's meeting is over![]()
