naneb - I spent today looking for a dog for my mother in law
judy3ca - stenz, bye and LOL at "the reading crew."
judy3ca - Nan, I read that on the board, very nice of you!
naneb - she is like a little kid, I bet we looked at 50 dogs and or puppies
riley - speced...that makes sense. She is very sociable and loves school activities. She missed a Christmas party because she forgot about it and forgets appointments. The skill is important to her. Would literacy be better? Thanks so much for your help!
judy3ca - I'll bet a dog would be wonderful for her!
Erin - Hi judy and nan
judy3ca - (((Erin)))) And we like some of the same fiction!!!
naneb - she has always had big dogs, afghan hounds, golden retrievers, german shephers so a little dog will take some adjustment
Erin - You will love Professor and the Madman
judy3ca - Thanks, it's not at the top of the pile, LOL.
naneb - so, Judy what is at the top of the pile?
Erin - Did you get Reading Essentials yet, Judy?
judy3ca - Erin, Reading Essentials hasn't arrived yet...let me go check.
Erin - Poor Judy, always checking Amazon...
naneb - I just finished Flesh and Blood by Jonathon Kellerman, it was a typical Kellerman book
judy3ca - Ooooh, it's in Dublin, that's only about 20 minutes from here!
naneb - you will have it soon!!
Erin - I sheepishly admitted that I just finished a Mary Higgins Clark book...totally brainless, just what I needed
Erin - Yeah, Judy!!
judy3ca - LOL, but I have to finish Graves first.
naneb - I have an order in my cart at book closeouts and a box full sitting here under the desk
Erin - It's a great book (Essentials)...I've breezed through it, but will go back and reread when discussion starts
naneb - that was the Kellerman, great escape fiction
judy3ca - Erin, I read brainless, too. I seriously love Lucas Davenport! And I bought the new Grisham paperback today.
Erin - I just got How's It Going? today
naneb - Which one Judy? The Summons
Erin - Which Grisham? THe Summons, finished it two days ago
naneb - I bought it too!!
judy3ca - Yes, LOL, thanks, nan, The Summons.
naneb - I read The Cat Who Smelled a Rat
judy3ca - Erin, did you like it?
naneb - I have the audio book of skipping christmas to listen to on the plane
Erin - It was alright. Though if you thought about it you could figure out the end
judy3ca - This is a hoot, I was so hoping we'd talk about books tonight.
naneb - I love books!! could talk books all day every day
Erin - My two favorite authors are Anne Perry and Elizabeth George...both require the reader to think
Erin - I love to READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
judy3ca - I've never read Anne Perry, but I LOVE Elizabeth George.
Erin - You would love Anne Perry. Victorian setting, murder mysteries...
judy3ca - I love to read, too. BRB.
Erin - Great character development, and setting...you really get a great understanding of Victorian England...plus I can never guess the ending
naneb - I almost got another cat at the animal shelter, there was a russian blue who stole my heart
Erin - Hi Alta
Alta Rose - Oops. brb
naneb - Hi, alta Rose
Erin - I can't go to the pound...I'm a sucker for those sad eyes.
Alta Rose - Hi everyone.
naneb - a Russian Blue, very expensive cat, she was beautiful and kept reaching between the bars for me
judy3ca - Back....hi, Alta!
Erin - Oh, nan...tugs at your heart
naneb - my daughter would have brought them all home
Alta Rose - Didn't realize I had nan's colour!
naneb - I have red
naneb - duh!! I guess you meant the first time!!
judy3ca - I ran downstairs to get this marvelous book I bought today. It's a picture book called My Grandmother's Clock by Geraldine McCaughrean. Anyone seen it?
Alta Rose - No.
Erin - No, what's it about
Erin - I think my New Year's Resolution will be to not ask Judy about any new books, because then I buy them LOL
Kim/1/Ca - Wow, nan...howdya get so RED?
judy3ca - Grandmother's clock is broken--she doesn't want it fixed, she and grandchild have a marvelous discussion of how time is measured. Oooooh, it's gorgeous.
naneb - I like red, my almost favorite color!!
Erin - She's taking over for Rudolph
Alta Rose - HI Michelle!
judy3ca - (((Kim)))
Kim/1/Ca - Very relieved to find nobody took my color.........wheew!
Kim/1/Ca - Knock off the book recommendations, Judy. Everytime you do this it costs me money........
Kim/1/Ca - BTW...((((Smooches))))
judy3ca - ROFL, Kim, like you didn't make any recommendations today! Fortunately, I've already read The Hours.
Michelle - I found Cynthia Rylant's The Whales for 49 cents at Goodwill on Christmas Eve.
Erin - Judy has cost me a lot of money since I've known her. One of my most expensive friendships...
Michelle - I hadn't been able to find that book anywhere!
Kim/1/Ca - <<<<(looking innocent) ME?
Erin - Brad would be proud, Michelle
Kim/1/Ca - I am on the lookout, Michelle...... things like this take time.
judy3ca - Erin, but I'm worth it, right?
Kim/1/Ca - I have been IMMERSED in Virginia Woolf today.......Mrs. Dalloway.
Erin - If there were more than one copy you wouldn't forget your friends, would you Michelle?
Erin - Judy, definitely!!
Michelle - Yeah, I used to go to Goodwill very regularly, but haven't had time in the last several months.
Michelle - Oh of course, Erin!
judy3ca - Is Vriginia Woolf changing your perception of The Hours Kim?
judy3ca - ir
Alta Rose - Has The Hours been made into a movie, or am I imagining that?
Kim/1/Ca - I haven't read The Hours yet, Judy....it is on the floor by the couch. With the latest Cornwell.
judy3ca - Yikes, that would be one downer movie.
Kim/1/Ca - Yeah.....they say Nicole Kidman is WONDERFUL in it, so is Meryl Streep.
judy3ca - I'm still waiting for House of Sand and Fog--the movie. I loved that book.
Erin - Great, I'll be out tomorrow buying The Hours
Kim/1/Ca - Yo Kimmy baby.......get here FIRST you can use the name........
Erin - House of Sand and Fog was intense
Alta Rose - I am reading a fascinating, but sad one--"The Nazi Officer's Wife."
judy3ca - Erin, at least it's paperback.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Hi, everyone.
Kim/1/Ca - Whoa........House of Sand and Fog?
Erin - Good point, oh expensive friend
Kim/1/Ca - yeah, alta.....I wrote that down........
Erin - That sounded really interesting Alta
Mrs. J/2/3 - Even if I did get here first, I wouldn't use the name. It's YOURS! Besides, everyone would be confused, Kim
Alta Rose - I am almost finished. Had to tear myself away to chat tonight! Lol!
judy3ca - I'm reading a very good one right now, The Little Friend by Donna Tartt.
judy3ca - Me, too, Alta!
Kim/1/Ca - True.....but I can always log in as Wunka or Oneka........LOL
Erin - Alta, author?
Alta Rose - Edith something....brb
judy3ca - Umm, I'm not almost finished, I just had to tear myself away.
Michelle - oh, judy, I heard about that one. sounds intriguing
Erin - True Confessions by Judy
Kim/1/Ca - Beer, she said........
Michelle - i read an article about the author while in the dentist waiting room.
Alta Rose - Yeah, Edith Hahn Beer.
Erin - Thanks Alta
Kim/1/Ca - ME TOO, Michelle.......read about Virginia Woolf in dental office. Smithsonian.
Erin - I now have three new books to buy tomorrow
Michelle - little girl who tries to avenge her brother's death, right judy?
judy3ca - Michelle, it's excellent. I read her other (big hoopla) book years ago when she was fresh out of (I think) Bennington. This one is terrific. And Erin, LOLOL.
Kim/1/Ca - I remember watching Burton and Taylor in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" long time ago.........that's about all I knew of her.
judy3ca - Michelle, right.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Geez, I'm lame. I never have time to read (other than professional stuff, of course, LOL)
Erin - Did anyone read The Girl With the Pearl Earring? Just picked up the new one by that author
judy3ca - Michelle, the characters are so well drawn, you really feel like your right there in (are you listening, nan?) Mississippi with them.
judy3ca - Kim in Mich, and you're thinking of a 4th kid, LOL.
Erin - Unfortunately, or fortunately, Mrs. J, my housekeeping suffers for the sake of my reading
naneb - Where are they in Mississippi?
Kim/1/Ca - THANKS Judy....($$$) sheesh........
Michelle - I haven't read any non-children's literature in a long time.
judy3ca - Erin, I read Girl/Pearl and loved it. My husband (who reads whatever I put in his hands) loved it, too.
judy3ca - Alexandria.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Shhhh! The last book I read (don't tell anyone) was The Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter)
Mrs. J/2/3 - LOL, Judy. You remember EVERYTHING, don't you
naneb - hmmm? never heard of it!! but then, I am not a born and bred Mississippian!!
Erin - HEY EVERYONE!! DID YOU HEAR WHAT MRS. J READ? LOLOL
judy3ca - (I'm whispering...The Little Friend is hardback.)
naneb - I loved the Harry Potter books!!
Michelle - oh, wait...I read "No Exit and Three More Plays" by some french dude.
Michelle - I love the HP books too.
Erin - Judy, I heard that!!!!
Mrs. J/2/3 - Really, Nan?
judy3ca - nan, maybe she made it up--but she's a Southerner.
Kim/1/Ca - Hey Nan....SAW the latest Faye Kellerman today at BN....hardcover. Stone Kiss. Looks okay.......
naneb - really!!
judy3ca - Camus????????? Some French dude?????????
Mrs. J/2/3 - Oh, that means I can come out of the closet!
naneb - I just finished Flesh and Blook by her husband, it was good
Alta Rose - I got word that my Reading Essentials was shipped today. So this time, I may be AUOI with you guys! (I was way behind reading MOT and RWM.)
Kim/1/Ca - I saw quite a few in the "new fiction" section that look good. A new Anne Rice vampire novel.
Michelle - Jean-Paul Sartre
Mrs. J/2/3 - Then I can say I saw Chamber of Secrets twice and promptly came home and read the last two books in a span of two weeks!
Erin - Maybe we should start our own book exchange so we don't all go broke
judy3ca - Shoot--------it's Sartre!
judy3ca - another French dude
Michelle - some very disturbing plays in this book
naneb - we have one at school and the books in there are not good at all
Erin - I just saw The Two Towers today with my son
Kim/1/Ca - good idea.......if you can wait for The Hours until next week or so, Erin, I will get it to you.
Michelle - me too, erin
Erin - Nan, same here...all those gushy romance novels
Alta Rose - Erin, my husband took my kids and said Two Towers was better than the first one!
judy3ca - Erin, my husband and daughter went to see Two Towers, too.
naneb - I watched the DVD of Sorcerer's Stone this weekend
Erin - Michelle, did you like it? I thought it was great
Michelle - But not with my son. I saw it with my friend who's a Title 1 teacher at our school
Mrs. J/2/3 - What'd ya think, Erin? My husband wants to go
Kim/1/Ca - Somebody send me that earring book........I can send out the Kellerman one.
Michelle - We both liked it. Visually it was amazing!
Michelle - I watched the DVD of Chocolat last night.
Erin - I don't have the earring book , but I have the Professor and the Madman, which I think you would like
Alta Rose - Haven't seen that one yet, Michelle.
Kim/1/Ca - Yeah....? I might make it to Valencia within the next few days to pick up my mom for lunch.
Erin - Mrs J definitely go...no slow parts at all
Kim/1/Ca - I didn't like the ending of Chocolat.......too..........supernatural.
Erin - Let me know. I'll be around most of the time. I'll email you my phone and address
judy3ca - Michelle, I LOVE that movie! I love that book! I love Johnny Depp. And I just read her newest book, Five Quarters of the Orange and it was EXCELLENT! My husband thought it was excellent, too. All about some kids in occupied France during WWII--excellent.
naneb - when do all of you go back to school? I go back next Thursday!! Ack!!
Michelle - I agree...go see it. My friend hadn't read the book and she really liked it.
Alta Rose - Right, my daughter, who went only to look at Legolas, ended up really liking it!
Erin - Legolas is a babe!!
Alta Rose - The Two Towers, that is.
Michelle - Kim, what do you mean? about the ending?
Mrs. J/2/3 - I know this might seem odd, given my passion for Harry Potter, but I don't really like those kind of movies (Lord of the Rings) I might go to make my husband happy though
Erin - We go back on January 6
sue - hi yall
Mrs. J/2/3 - HI, Sue and Grace
Alta Rose - Hi Grace!
Michelle - I go back to school on Jan 8th.
Alta Rose - Hi Sue.
Kim/1/Ca - them taking off.......being part of the wind.
Erin - So is Aragorn
sue - I thought the last harry potter movie was a little too graphic for younger kids
Michelle - Legolas is too efeminate
Erin - Aragorn is a babe that is LOL
Grace/IL - Hi y'all. I was watching a video and almost forgot about our meeting.
Alta Rose - My daughter thinks Legolas is a hottie, but was sorely disappointed when she saw him w/o his blonde hair!
Erin - I liked Harry Potter until the 4th one...seemed too evil at times
Michelle - but they didn't... They stayed behind and she let her mother's ashes go into the end.
Kim/1/Ca - Judy and I were reading, Grace.......had to come up for air.
Erin - Grace, that would almost get you disbarred from ESIA
judy3ca - Michelle, I LOVE that movie! I love that book! I love Johnny Depp. And I just read her newest book, Five Quarters of the Orange and it was EXCELLENT! My husband thought it was excellent, too. All about some kids in occupied France during WWII--excellent.
Alta Rose - Me too.
Michelle - aragorn is greasy and dirty. I don't understand everyone's facination with him
Erin - Definitely, Alta. The hair makes him look much better
Michelle - yeah...orlando bloom is pretty plain looking in real life, i think
sue - night all-falling asleep already!
Grace/IL - Erin, it was a lecture on the Old Testament -- not some frivolous pastime.
Erin - OK Grace, you are forgiven LOL
Grace/IL - Rather, listening to the video and doing my black background stitchery.
Kim/1/Ca - Jeez.......glad I didn't make a smart-aleck comment about Grace watching a video. (Smooth move, Erin, LOL)
judy3ca - ROFLOL!!!!!!!!!!!
Erin - Thanks, Kim for the overwhelming support. Fair weather friends I guess LOL
Alta Rose - Lol!
Erin - I thought for sure Grace was watching MTV videos, silly me
Grace/IL - Hubby gave me a new TV with a VCR for Christmas. Now I don't have to fight that big Gateway computer-TV combo.
Kim/1/Ca - I'm supportin' ya! All I said was, "glad it wasn't ME"....... (snicker snicker)
judy3ca - LOLOL
naneb - boy, I leave the room to go get some wine and look what happens!!
Kim/1/Ca - pass it here, nan........white zin?
Erin - With friends like these....
naneb - Yes indeed, Robert Mondavi
Grace/IL - Friends loaned me a whole series of videos on the Bible -- really intellectual stuff.
Alta Rose - No wine for me tonight--Neocitrin. (Stupid cold!)
judy3ca - Erin, with friends like these....you have a lot a fun.
Erin - LOL, Judy
Erin - We would have a great time at our new school we are planning
Kim/1/Ca - Grace is very pious, Erin. Kinda like a minister here. The fact that you made light of her video preferences........well, (shaking head)....
naneb - husband got wine or liquor from all of his friends at work and some customers
Alta Rose - Grace, I've been tempted to watch some videos like that, but am going to read it first. My New Year's Resolution is to read the NIV this year.
Grace/IL - Yep, Judy, this is the best group of friends. They keep me really upbeat.
Grace/IL - Yep, Judy, this is the best group of friends. They keep me really upbeat.
Erin - Ya know Kim...nothing like kicking someone when they're down
Alta Rose - All the way through it, I mean.
judy3ca - Kim, you are so very naughty! What fun!
naneb - ROFLOL!!!!
Grace/IL - Oh, Kim, pious?????
Kim/1/Ca - You didn't know, Erin, obviously.
Erin - Ha! Kim!! She doesn't want to be called pious. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
Kim/1/Ca - Go with it here, Grace. I am on a roll.
judy3ca - Grace, does your "they" mean to exclude me?
Kim/1/Ca - Yes, Judy.
Grace/IL - No, Judy, see how my sins of omission play out? I should have said, "Y'all." LOL
judy3ca - Kim, you are making my face hurt from laughing!
Michelle - wow kim, you really are on a roll.
judy3ca - Grace, LOL, I WAS teasing.
Kim/1/Ca - speaking of laughing and teasing.........where is Brad the Plaid Dad?
Kim/1/Ca - I could swear it was YOUR turn to watch him!
Michelle - this is his second week in a row MIA.
Kim/1/Ca - brb....gotta change the tv channel. sick of war talk.
Michelle - Not watching, but keeping track
Erin - Can anyone keep track of Brad?
Erin - Does anyone want to?
Alta Rose - Maybe catching a few winks when he can.
Kim/1/Ca - DOES Brad really exist, after all?
Alta Rose - brb
judy3ca - Maybe Alta went to get Brad the Glad Dad.
Grace/IL - Only in your imagination, Kim
Michelle - maybe kim is brad?
Michelle - that's why they both aren't here together anymore?
naneb - you never see them together!!
Kim/1/Ca - Good one, Michelle........
Erin - Good observations Michelle
Grace/IL - She invented him so she'd have someone else to talk with.
Erin - They have morphed into one...
Kim/1/Ca - Yeah, he is my masculine side.
judy3ca - Ooooh, Michelle, you must be a killer figuring out mysteries!
brad - I know just when to come in
naneb - see!! we were right!!
judy3ca - ROFLOL---BRAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Erin - Who called him?
Kim/1/Ca - I can't get HIM OUT OF MY HEAD........(clutching head)
judy3ca - I told you, Alta went to get him!
Michelle - well, I do always read the ending first...
naneb - What an Entrance!!!
Erin - If Kim had signed off it would have been classic
Michelle - I saw "brad" coming
Grace/IL - Now maybe I should log off and reenter as someone else.
brad - I was playing Mall Tycoon and wondering about what time it is, so when I logged off, I was like, "Crap, I'm missing the chat."
Kim/1/Ca - yeah....that would be a cyber trick, huh? (((smooches Bradley)))))
Erin - Brad, you do that on purpose don't you...just sit and read and then KABAAM...grand entrance
brad - It's called Perfect Timing, Erin
naneb - is that game fun? my son got it and I was thinking about buying it
judy3ca - Brad, I was glad to hear you say you liked Donna Tartt---I'm loving The Little Friend.
Michelle - hey guys!
Alta Rose - Hi diane.
Grace/IL - Yes, but where did Alta Rose go?
Kim/1/Ca - You look good, sweetie pie.........
brad - This would've been my third week out and I'm not ready to go that far yet.
Grace/IL - Oooh, they're both here.
brad - If you like Sim Games, Nan, (which I adore way back to SimCity the original)\
naneb - I loved Sim City and Sim Farm, both great games
Alta Rose - Just to check on daughter and friend, Grace.
Kim/1/Ca - SEE Grace? We are NOT the same person. (neener neener)
Michelle - my son loves Sim Safari
brad - You design your own mall; decide what stores to put in, where the kiosks and benches go, even decide what to sell in the different stores. It's so funny--there's even a Glamour Shots
Alta Rose - Just to check on daughter and friend, Grace.
diane - so, i have a six hour drive ahead of me tomorrow...i'm going to finally get going on my graves reading...i hope
brad - I never did SimFarm--hmmmm, I think I may even own it (came in a three-fer package)
Mrs. J/2/3 - My daughter just dumped a whole pitcher of kool aid in the refrigerator--yeesh!
Kim/1/Ca - where going little d?
naneb - I did Glamour shots, I should post that pic, I could go anywhere and y'all would not know who I was
Mrs. J/2/3 - I read some Graves tonight
Erin - diane, I wish I could read in the car
brad - I never get to read while driving because I have young children or else I"m driving. LOL
judy3ca - I used to play Sim City but, and I know you will all gasp in disbelief, I was a little too compulsive about it.
Kim/1/Ca - Those were the days Other Kim.....a whole pitcher! (experienced that)
brad - OH, Kim!
judy3ca - Hi diane! I didn't see you come in.
Mrs. J/2/3 - You have to get a TV/VCR and then put up one of those little windows like in a limo, Brad
naneb - I saw a man driving, reading the paper and talking on the phone!!! Geez!!
diane - ooo...sorry kim
judy3ca - Erin, I can't read in the car either.
Erin - Sorry, Mrs. J
brad - Judy, I have to be afraid of The Addiction side of me too. Last Christmas my wife and I were so hooked on Roller Coaster Tycoon that the house wasn't cleaned for almost the whole week after.
Michelle - my sister just announced she is expecting her 6th child. She never gets to read, period!
Kim/1/Ca - yes, brad?
diane - nan...i have a bad habit of sleeping while driving...now i'm not allowed behind the wheel on long trips
Erin - Is that a problem brad?
naneb - do you have The Sims? they are addictive too
Michelle - I don't think she even reads in bed.
brad - Michelle, she knows how to cure that doesn't she? LOL
Erin - YOu're supposed to clean weekly? Or even more often?
judy3ca - But it's okay to be addicted to books, right?
Alta Rose - That is a nasty habit, diane! Lol.
naneb - my husband does that ,we have ended up in the ditch before
Grace/IL - I read most of The Poisonwood Bible in the car last week.
brad - I'm dying for The Sims, even asked for this year, but it is pretty expensive compared to other games
judy3ca - Erin, ROFL.
Michelle - I had to take Solitaire and Mine Sweeper off the computer because I was addicted.
Kim/1/Ca - That's just plain masochistic, Michelle. (6??!!)
brad - Erin--small children--cleaning on daily basis or at least every other day
Alta Rose - I really enjoyed that book, Grace.
brad - Love Mine Sweeper, Michelle!
diane - lol, michelle, i am addicted to spider solitaire
Kim/1/Ca - Read that two summers ago, Grace........very intriguing. Very upsetting.
Erin - Do you mean cleaning or picking up? Huge difference.
Erin - Spider Solitaire is fun
Mrs. J/2/3 - Oooh, 6 Michelle? Suddenly 4 doesn't seem so extreme!
Erin - I love that game Collapse
judy3ca - I used to be a huge MineSweeper fanatic, but now it's spider solitaire.
Kim/1/Ca - Good point, Erin........
brad - Ooh, Grace, Good?? Been wanting to read for awhile. Loved Bean Trees. Read that when I was subbing. My wife hated the sequel though.
naneb - my niece is having twins
Alta Rose - I liked the way Kingsolver wrote from each girl's perspective.
Kim/1/Ca - couldn't get into bean trees..........disappointed.
diane - i ended up doing a 360 on the freeway at 80 mph...i think that was the last straw...so to speak
judy3ca - Alta, I love Barbara Kingsolver!
Erin - Don't try and be nice to me now Kim
Grace/IL - Yes, Kim, I'm still pondering the resolutions of the problems.
Mrs. J/2/3 - brb
Michelle - Yeah, my sister will have 5 between the ages of 6 and 0 when the next is born. The oldest is 13, so he's a help.
Erin - diane, we had a friend who would just sleep on the side of the freeway when he was tired...talk about dangerous
Kim/1/Ca - I am going to go get my friend ERIN a nice glass of WINE. In a crystal wine glass.
Grace/IL - Yes, writing from each girl's perspective seemed original to me.
brad - Really, Kim. That's interesting. I tried to do Poisonwood when Caleb was little and just couldn't get into, but wanted to try again after glancing at it in library a while back
naneb - much better to sleep in the car
Erin - All right, I'll forgive you Kim...for the time being
Kim/1/Ca - I can't STAND the way the little girl died. So ..... EVIL. Was that the intent? The symbolism of the snake? Yuck.
diane - yikes, erin
brad - But (and try to keep up here) I have been one of those people waiting DESPERATELY for years for Tartt's next.
diane - has anyone read prodigal summer?
Kim/1/Ca - And then, really........the way the older girl just SACRIFICED her life.
Grace/IL - My daughter is into Dee Henderson's books -- Danger in the Shadows and The Negotiator. I bought two more of them for her for Christmas.
yo - Hi, sombody speak spanish ?
Kim/1/Ca - I have not read any Tartt. But I wrote it down.
Alta Rose - No, Poisonwood is the only Kingsolver book I"ve read.
judy3ca - Diane, I've read all of Kingsolver's books.
brad - I"ve never heard of her Grace
Kim/1/Ca - No habla espanol here.....till Sadie comes.
Erin - You know, if these book recommendations keep up I will not be able to come on Fridays
diane - how would you compare prodigal summer to others, judy?
Grace/IL - Read The Negotiator on the plane coming into O'Hare after Thanksgiving -- not the place to be reading THAT book.
brad - I was so happy during this leave when I could finally pick up fiction. It takes a good chunk of time for me to get into fiction
judy3ca - Alta, I recommend you read Animal Dreams by Kingsolver--it's great.
Erin - Would that be the chunk of time between 1 and 4 a.m. Brad
brad - Judy, is that the "sequel" to Bean Trees or different?
Alta Rose - Thanks, Judy. Will keep it in mind. Have wanted to read another one.
Alta Rose - Hi Cavey!
Grace/IL - Back to Poisonwood -- yes, the older daughter surely threw her life away.
Michelle - I never did buy any of the books I was going to. I paid my bills for the month and then realized I only have $200 to live on until the end of Jan.
Kim/1/Ca - Same here, Brad. did you read my response to your "lullaby" book?
cavey - Hi Everybody! happy new year!
Erin - Hi cavey
Mrs. J/2/3 - Hi, Cavey
diane - hi cavey!!
judy3ca - Diane, I like all of her books, but I have to admit that I can't remember the plot of Prodigal Summer right now--is it the one about the farm?
Michelle - I'm taking a class beginning in January anyway, so I'll be busy with that.
Erin - Yikes Michelle. That's tough
diane - ouch michelle
Kim/1/Ca - Okay........what was the book about the girl who has her baby in a Walmart?
Mrs. J/2/3 - Ouch, Michelle.
Grace/IL - Must pick up other Kingsolver books although Poisonwood is rated as her best.
brad - OH, geez, no kim, I've been "addicted" for the better part of the evening, plus playing some games with my kids, plus keeping Trey happy (I think sour stomach today)
judy3ca - Brad, different. The sequel to The Bean Trees is Pigs in Heaven.
judy3ca - (((((cavey)))))
Mrs. J/2/3 - Great minds think alike, diane
diane - lol, judy, that's partly why i was asking you!!
brad - Walmart--Where the Heart Is--Okay
judy3ca - Kim---I love that book!!!!!!!
brad - That's right. Thanks Judy
brad - Where the Heart is just didn't amount to anything in the end for me. That's why I don't place it that high.
cavey - Are you guys talking about real books that I never read
Kim/1/Ca - LOL...I bought it,read it. Then, forgot I bought it/read it. Bought it again. LOL
Erin - OK so who's exchanging what?
Alta Rose - Lol, Kim!
brad - You know what "girlie" books I liked?
judy3ca - Diane, I think that wasn't my favorite. I think my favorite Kingsolvers are Animal Dreams and Bean Trees.
Erin - I just did that this weekend Kim
Kim/1/Ca - I am offering The Hours sometime soon. Also, the latest Sue Grafton/Stephen King. Excellent.
brad - Letts (Walmart baby) wrote a second book "Honk and Holler Opening Soon" that I liked a little bit better (but not much)
Erin - I'll take the Hours. I'm offering Professor and the Madman
Michelle - yeah....Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret, brad.
diane - those are my favorite as well, judy...i guess i was wondering if prodigal summer was somewhat of a return to the earlier books
Kim/1/Ca - The Pilot's Wife was OUTSTANDING.
Grace/IL - I also need to get Paul Krebill's latest book, Heritage Hidden. Paul is a personal friend and has taken to writing novels in his retirement years.
Michelle -
brad - Kim, my post about The Hours was with Lullaby right?
Kim/1/Ca - I want the Pearl Earring one.
diane - oh...i'm waiting for the hours...i do have mrs. dalloway if anyone needs it
judy3ca - Has anyone read A Gesture Life?
Kim/1/Ca - think so, brad........
Mrs. J/2/3 - Kinda creepy that you're reading that book, Brad
Kim/1/Ca - just bought dalloway today, diane...........sigh.
Michelle - Here's another "grown-up" book I've read...."The Glass Lake" by Maeve Binchey. Anyone read that?
Kim/1/Ca - Maeve Binchy? (snort)
brad - No, Michelle. I really liked Fannie Flagg's Fried Green Tomatoes and her first book--"Coming Attractions" (later published as "Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man" after success with Tomatoes.) So I got "Welcome to the World Baby Girl" from library, and it plain sucked. I abandoned it about halfway through. It wasn't going anywhere. So I noticed shopping that she has a new one out now and I'm afraid to try
Michelle - several of us at school read that book and discussed it for a while.
Michelle - well...I'm trying.
judy3ca - Kim, I liked The Pilot's Wife. I liked Shreve's The Weight of Water better. I recently read her Sea Glass and my husband is reading it right now.
Erin - Judy, do you Have Pearl Earring still for Kim?
Alta Rose - brb....Putting son to bed.
Kim/1/Ca - just kidding, michelle.........at least you didn't mention (dare i write it) Danielle (gag) Steel (gag)
brad - Really Good Book---Memoirs of a Geisha. I learned so much (and broadened my schema as well)
Erin - brad...loved that book
judy3ca - Brad, Fried Green Tomatoes is one of my all time favorite books.
Kim/1/Ca - Broadened your SCHEMA? yeah, right (snort)
Michelle - oh my....Why are her books popular? They are all the same!
brad - which one, erin?
diane - i'm reading the man who owned vermont...good start
judy3ca - I have Pearl Earring but I can't give it away because it was a gift from my daughter.
Erin - Geisha
brad - Judy, I keep telling my wife she has to read that and The Prince of Tides, the former as a funny companion slightly better than the movie. The latter to erase the memory of that awful movie.
Erin - Sorry Kim, I'm trying. I think I may have loaned my copy to a friend. I'll check
Kim/1/Ca - Oh man.......The Prince of Tides, I swear to Goodness, has the most beautiful prose..........
brad - I really felt in another world when reading Geisha, Erin.
cavey - brb left family watching a movie, I'
brad - Prince of Tides is in top 3 (I refuse to rank)
Erin - Had to go see the ad on t.v. for the sewing machine for dummies. My son and husband think I should get it
judy3ca - LOL, Brad. Have you read A Prayer for Owen Meany? That's another of my top faves.
cavey - 'm being rude
Erin - I agree, brad. I was totally caught up in it
brad - Judy, wasn't that released as a movie, "Simon birch" I almost read that before the movie came out. Maybe I'll have to now.
Erin - Simon Birch was a really good movie
brad - But it wasn't difficult to enter that world, do you agree, Erin?
Kim/1/Ca - The most beautiful prose...what a way with words. This from the man who wrote The Great Santini and The Water is Wide. (sigh) The beauty of the words and the powerful images, juxtaposed with the most brutal violence.......
judy3ca - I went through a period when I thought Pat Conroy was the King. We even went to hear him speak twice.
Grace/IL - How do all of you find time to read novels, read professional books, raise families, and teach at the same time?
brad - The only other Conroy I've read is Beach Music, which was good, but not as good as Tides
judy3ca - Yup, Simon Birch is the movie. I'm going to marry John Irving in my next life.
Erin - No brad, but what a fascinating, different world than I expected
brad - Conroy's new one was based on a chance meeting he had in a bookstore around here.
Kim/1/Ca - No, tides is his finest work. How to top that?
Michelle - my exact same question, grace.
judy3ca - Kim, I just bought Conroy's new book, too.
diane - well, grace, i have no kids, but i find that i have to read in the bathtub!
Michelle - and watch tv, from what was said last week.
Kim/1/Ca - It's like Thomas Harris. The Red Dragon was GOOD. Silence of the Lambs is a MASTERPIECE. Hannibal is a travesty. Go figure.
Erin - Grace, like I said, my house is not the cleanest on the block
brad - I only read Lambs, long time ago, but after movie (which of course taints things)
Alta Rose - Grace, I made the decision to cut back on TV watching--That helped.
judy3ca - brad, wait, how is the basketball book based on a bookstore?
Michelle - maybe I need to take a speed-reading course. I take too much time thinking about my reading.
naneb - Oh!! Kim I agree with that completely! hannibal was awful, I think it is a perfect example of what happens when a publisherwants another book and it just isn't there
Grace/IL - Diane -- in the bathtub? I had a friend who could do that. Not I!
Alta Rose - Plus my kids are 9 and 12.
Erin - I really don't watch a lot of t.v and I often read while I watch
Grace/IL - My house isn
Alta Rose - I don't know how you do that, erin!
Kim/1/Ca - My dad turned me on to Lambs........surprised how HAUNTINGLY, surreal and tightly written it was. I said at the time it would be an awesome movie. Then Jodie Foster optioned it. Took awhile to make it.
brad - Judy, Conroy was here in town for a book signing at this bookstore when he ran into a guy on that team at the store. It reminded him of those times and he decided to write a book about it.
Michelle - I can't read in the tub either.
naneb - I don't watch much tv and if I do I also am reading a book
Grace/IL - My house isn't the cleanest either. Maybe I need to take the solitaire games off the computer.
judy3ca - Oooh, that's good book gossip, Brad, thanks.
Erin - C'mon Michelle...thinking while you're reading?
brad - Somehow they got to talking about the team, went out after the signing, inspiration, boom
Michelle - imagine that, eh?
brad - I tape most of my television and then watch it all right before I come here Friday nights
Erin - I sometimes think I read too fast...I feel like I waste my money when I buy a really good book, I finish it too quickly
brad - It's sort've a ritual my wife and I have perfected since we've moved here.
judy3ca - But it's not as good as Cynthia Rylant/Dav Pilkey.
Grace/IL - When I was in grad school, I sat in the lounger reading while the TV was running. Multi-tasking, I guess.
Erin - Nope, that is the gossip of the year, Judy
brad - true, true, judy, that's great gossip there
brad - If I remember correctly, the bookstore newspaper said the teammate was a teacher around here somewhere
Kim/1/Ca - Same here, Grace, LOL
Erin - brad, just found out I can get my admin credential by taking a test..do you have that option?
Michelle - where exactly do they live? I'm thinking the Southern Oregon coast. Is that right?
Erin - I won't have to finish all the coursework
brad - I don't think so Erin; I've still got classes, even if I could pass the test.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Are you in CA Erin?
Erin - Yes, Mrs. J
Kim/1/Ca - I am still reeling in disbelief from the CLAD news, Erin.......you can "test out" of the admin credential?
Erin - All you need to take the test here is CBEST and teaching credential
Mrs. J/2/3 - Does each state do it differently? I'm not sure we have an adminstrator's credential here
Erin - What is the CLAD news Kim?
diane - i'm headed to southern oregon tomorrow...maybe i'll bump into the happy couple
Kim/1/Ca - brb...."break" time....
Erin - About 15 states have the test obtion for admin credential
brad - me too, thirsty, brb
Michelle - you can "test out" of the ESOL endorsement in Oregon now. I might do that since I took all the coursework 10-12 yrs ago, but the coursework doesn't count.
judy3ca - diane, get autographs--we'll pay you!
Erin - Honestly, it's all short answer and essay, I don't think you could pass it without some coursework.
Alta Rose - So Brad, are you getting decent sleep lately?
Grace/IL - IL has prescribed courses for an administrative certificate. Don't think anyone can get it by simply passing a test.
Erin - webiste is www.ets.org, select major testing programs then School Leadership Series for more infor
Mrs. J/2/3 - Where would I check that out at Erin? Our state department of ed?
Erin - This was just approved this month
judy3ca - Mrs. J, are you going the admin route, too?
brad - Erin, that's how our teaching credential test is now--all short answer and essay. (Whew! I was the last group to take multiple choice)
brad - Sleep is okay. Not much for dad to do since mom is breastfeeding.
Erin - Fortunately, I write well on tests. I"ve taken a million in my life
Mrs. J/2/3 - Well....I'm leaning that way. I have my masters in reading, but my district started a Leadership Development Academy for aspiring administrators that I was accepted into this year. Next year they will be attaching credit to it
brad - However our room in this house is FREEZING.
Erin - I would like to do the testing option and get my master's in reading instead of administration.
brad - We bought a space heater for basement and now it can get downright toasty
brad - Today's the first day we haven't built a fire since Monday
Erin - What state are you Mrs. J?
Michelle - I can't get my masters in Reading since I already have my reading endorsement....got it with undergrad credits.
diane - speaking of freezing, did you get impacted by this morning's storm much, michelle?
brad - <-----talking to self??
Mrs. J/2/3 - In my district you don't need an administration masters or certificate or credential--just a masters in an education field and at least 7 years teaching experience
Grace/IL - Keeping the basement warm really helps. Floors get nice and warm.
Mrs. J/2/3 - I'm in Michigan, Erin
Kim/1/Ca - How do you spell RELIEF?
Michelle - no, just windy here. It wasn't bad here.
brad - w-i-n-e, Kim
judy3ca - Apparently so, Brad.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Where are you at, Michelle?
Alta Rose - No, i'm listening, Brad! Lol.
cavey - I'm back in black
Michelle - Oregon
Grace/IL - You feel that much better, Kim?????
Erin - Kim, what was the CLAD issue you mentioned?
Mrs. J/2/3 - Did you get much snow, Brad?
Kim/1/Ca - HI Cavey!
Erin - Mrs. J, just checked. Michigan not one of the states listed
naneb - is that w-i-n-e or w-h-i-n-e??
judy3ca - Hi again, cavey, did we do you in with the book talk?
diane - we had power outage this morning...
brad - I never heard official count, Kim, but I'm thinking about an inch, maybe two
Mrs. J/2/3 - Thanks, Erin
Grace/IL - cavey, you look good in black.
Kim/1/Ca - Oh........ the foreign language component is not required now.
cavey - Well, the rest of the family is all here and I kinda snuck out
Michelle - how long, diane?
Mrs. J/2/3 - Wow, you lucked out. We got 8 here. The storm turned our way
cavey - thank you grace, I need the slimming effect after the holiday
brad - What is a really good book I should read? Fiction. My cousin says something about "Crimson Petal" so. . .
Erin - Fortunately I took three years of high school French and that fulfilled the requirement for me
diane - well...i slept through the beginning, so i'm not totally sure...2 hours at least
judy3ca - Kim, I heard that about dropping the foreign lang from the CLAD--but I'm still proud of my BCLAD.
Erin - cavey, I agree. I have eaten way too much this past few days
diane - brad, have you read we were the mulvaneys?
brad - They were expecting a lot more Kim. I live under I70, so I get the better end of the "I70 Effect."
Grace/IL - I refuse to get on the scale -- really pigged out Christmas day.
cavey - Slim Fast for me next week!
brad - No, Diane, Oates appeals to me but she can be odd.
Michelle - me too. Maybe I'll actually go to the gym that I haven't stepped foot in since joining in June
Kim/1/Ca - I am not lazy, Judy.......but it seemed like a bunch of wheel spinning to me. I am finishing up the academic coursework now. The 6 units of coursework in Spanish just seemed.......time consuming and unneccessary.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Remind me again, Judy and Kim--CLAD and BCLAD?
judy3ca - Diane, ooooh, I love Joyce Carol Oates! And the Mulvaneys is one of her best!
cavey - don't need a scale, the jeans say it all
diane - it's the only oates that i have been able to get into
Erin - I can't drink those Slim Fasts. They make me sick because of all the fiber in them
Kim/1/Ca - The Mulvaneys.......now THAT was a troubling book.
brad - Oh, You women are all Beautiful just the way You Are
judy3ca - The B is for Bilingual.
cavey - You have to do the Slim Fast bars, I don't do the shakes either
Mrs. J/2/3 - And the CLAD?
Michelle - cavey....jeans tell the tale here, too.
Kim/1/Ca - Clad means you can teach English Language Learners. BCLAD means you are proficient enough to teach ELLs in content areas.
cavey - Brad, you've never seen me have you?
Erin - So what else do you eat or drink with the Slim Fast bars?
Grace/IL - Went shopping today, though, and bought a dress. It's the first time in ages I felt comfortable clothes shopping.
Michelle - I like the slim fast when it's the powder blended with milk and ice.
Michelle - do the bars fill you up like the shakes do?
Kim/1/Ca - BCLAD is much more extensive and it is usually persued by native Spanish speakers.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Do you like the bars? My mom didn't like them
cavey - well Erin, very little, yo yoing for a lifetime has gotten me
Alta Rose - I'm going back to the gym as soon as I've gotten rid of this dumb cold.
brad - Oh, the end of what we'll talk about! Honestly--Slim Fast?? (giggling like schoolgirl)
Erin - I'm usually ok when I go back to work. Cereal for breakfast, Lean Cuisine for lunch and small dinner. Age has caught up with me
Grace/IL - SlimFast doesn't satisfy me -- neither bars nor liquid.
judy3ca - Brad, tell me about The Crimson Petal.
Kim/1/Ca - Slim Fast is NOT healthy. Just eat write and exercise. Plain and simple.
Mrs. J/2/3 - That's right, you prefer HoHos, right Brad?
cavey - I only do it grace because it's easy and brainless
Kim/1/Ca - Eat RIGHT...sheez.
Erin - How do you eat and write, Kim?
Mrs. J/2/3 - Writing will do it, huh, Kim? LOL
diane - okay guys, i have to go...i haven't packed yet. my husband is one of those people that likes to leave at 4:00 in the morning...yawn!!
Erin - Darn you beat me to it!!!
brad - all my cousin said was It's set in Victorian times (cousin is English lit major). She should be here next weekend, so I'll find out more then (she's the type who we both go to the bookstore and spend about 4 hours)
Grace/IL - Erin, work did me in -- There were always snacks around.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Writing on the brain
Kim/1/Ca - Well, erin..the WRITING burns calories....LOL
cavey - Notice I did not make fun of your typo Kim
Erin - There's that brown noser cavey....
Kim/1/Ca - <<<noticing Cavey's respectful discretion.
Michelle - eat, write, and exercise?
Alta Rose - Me neither, Kim.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Brownie points for Cavey
Erin - Notice I did not learn my lesson from teasing Grace earlier...
Michelle - I've never heard of that. what are you supposed to write?
cavey - it's that glass houses thing with me
Mrs. J/2/3 - And Alta
Grace/IL - They say that chewing gum constantly will help one lose a pound or two over a year's time.
Alta Rose - Lol!
Kim/1/Ca - you're just sore over your little faux paus, erin...........(hee hee hee)
brad - Um, did I miss something in the conversation?
Erin - "I will not eat dessert" "I will not eat dessert" 100 times
Michelle - I'm really behind here...talking to a friend also.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Is that because you don't eat when you are chewing?
cavey - I would also be divorced if I did that diet Grace, hubby hates gum
Alta Rose - My son read an ariticle in his OWL magazine that said chewing gum is good for the brain. He showed it to his teacher, and she started to allow gum in class!
Grace/IL - So if one writes continually, that should take off a pound or two.
judy3ca - cavey, I agree with your hubby
Erin - No MRs. J, you don't eat while writing because you can't pick up a fork
Mrs. J/2/3 - Being divorced might help me lose weight! My husband is awful
brad - I think I read that article, Alta. I haven't chewed gum in so long. . .
Erin - Alta, very cool
judy3ca - Alta, good for your son! I give my students gum during standardized testing.
Mrs. J/2/3 - No, Erin, I was asking Grace about the gum
Kim/1/Ca - Well, earlier, Brad, ERIN made a snide comment about disbarring GRACE from the ESIA, for watching a video. Grace humbly said she was watching a video about the Old Testament. Erin was rightfully embarrassed and I felt compelled to make sure she understood what a terrible thing she did. Making fun of our pious Grace.
Erin - LOL Mrs. J
Erin - NOT LOL at KIM
naneb - ha!!ha!1hee!hee!!
brad - Why would we disbar Grace for watching a video?
judy3ca - Brad, I just looked that book up--it's "bawdy." Watch out, LOL.
Grace/IL - No, it's because you're exercising those jaw muscles. But, of course, one wouldn't be eating during that time.
cavey - So, if I watch biblical movies you guys won't make fun of me?
brad - mmmm. . . strawberry PIE-ous (homer drool)
Erin - Because Grace said she was watching a video and almost forgot about the chat.
Alta Rose - I think because she almost missed the chat brad.
Kim/1/Ca - Well, ever since.....Erin has just been WAITING for me to mess up.
naneb - because she wasn't in here chatting!!
brad - Really Judy? Is it excerpted on Amazon?
judy3ca - yes Brad
Erin - Oh yeah, Kim, just waiting...with baited breath...to pounce on one error...
Kim/1/Ca - alskjflkasjflksjf
Erin - Sorry cavey, you're still fair game
brad - That's funny. I know my cousin was going on recommendation. She'll be interested in this bawdiness. LOL. As will I.
Erin - See KIm, that was more than one error and I didn't say anything
judy3ca - I think my next book is The Piano Tuner.
Kim/1/Ca - ouch! (erin hit me with her POUNCE)
judy3ca - Brad, go read Amazon's review, too.
brad - Judy, who wrote that? I think I may have checked out but not read (a frequent hobby of mine)
naneb - Judy, I read Piano tuner and I immediately thought about Fall On Your Knees, talk about connections
brad - What's the full title, Judy? I just know it has Crimson Petal in title.
Alta Rose - Has anyone read A Fine Balance. That's next in my pile when I finish this one.
Kim/1/Ca - OOOh... sounds intriguing.
Grace/IL - I don't need to READ the Piano Tuner -- I need him to do some work!
Alta Rose - (((((Sadie)))))
cavey - Hi Sadie- watch out for Erin, she's the typo police tonight
Sadie T - Hi, Everyone!!
judy3ca - Daniel Mason
Erin - AAGGHHH Stop with the book recommendations...
judy3ca - Hi Sadie!!!!!!!!!
brad - Alta, whoever wrote A Fine Balance just put a new one out. I saw that in my travels Christmas Eve.
Kim/1/Ca - (((Sadie!))))
Erin - Thanks a lot cavey
judy3ca - The Crimson Petal and the White
Kim/1/Ca - Sadie and Judy...when is your spring break?
Michelle - think "library" for those novels.
Grace/IL - Everybody's picking on Erin
Sadie T - My spring break is in the spring.
Mrs. J/2/3 - I second that motion. I am feeling INFERIOR again!
Alta Rose - Is A Fine Balance good? Does anyone know?
cavey - by the way Erin, it's bated breath
Erin - Thanks, Michelle,
Michelle - oooh....sadie is secretive!
Kim/1/Ca - you wanna narrow that DOWN a little? Sheesh........everyone's a comedian.
judy3ca - Kim, I don't know, LOL.
Erin - What, did you go look that up cavey? A little slow for the typo police
Grace/IL - How about having spring break in the fall?
judy3ca - BRB, I'll go look.
Sadie T - Sorry, I really don't know when it is. The week before or after Easter. And I don't know when Easter is!
Kim/1/Ca - gee thanks..........(ask a question)
Erin - It's o.k. Grace, I've (sob) got tough (sob, sob) skin
brad - You're right Judy! There's nothing I love better than a bawdy novel about erotic love and familial sin.
judy3ca - Kim, mine is March 31.
Michelle - we usually begin spring break in the winter.
Erin - Mine is the week before Easter. When is that?
judy3ca - I knew it was right up your alley, Brad, ROFL.
Michelle - it's the first week of spring...which may include a few days of winter
Mrs. J/2/3 - Ooh, erotic love and familial sin. Gotta add that to the list
Grace/IL - Easter, I think, is the first Sunday after the first full moon in spring.
Erin - Then you probably love those V.C Andrews books, huh, brad?
Kim/1/Ca - Well, Judy and Sadie, I thought MAYBE if my spring break is different from yours, I could come see you in your classrooms. Spend the day with you.
judy3ca - Now, who was asking about A Fine Balance? I haven't read it, but it was VERY well reviewed. It's not my favorite setting, so I passed.
brad - Easter this year (and thus spring break) arrives in late april
Erin - Obviously, Kim does not include me in classroom visitations although I am the CLOSEST to her.
Kim/1/Ca - V.C. Andrews? OH GAWLLLLL.......didnt' she learn at the knee of Danielle (gag) Steel (gag)?
Michelle - those VC Andrews books....another series that's the same time and again.
Sadie T - Yikes, I just looked it up, my Spring Break is late this year - April 21
Grace/IL - That's setting the exact date LOL
Alta Rose - That was me, Judy. Thanks.
brad - I have never read a VC Andrews book. Very popular, but I've heard they're hideous.
Kim/1/Ca - Well, that goes without saying Erin.........(looking sheepish)
judy3ca - Oh, Kim, that would be fun! But then you'd find out how ordinary I am.
Erin - THey are, I read a few way back when
brad - LOL, Judy. ROFLMAO
Sadie T - I think I'd be disappointing.
Sadie T - Kim, when is your Spring break?
judy3ca - Brad, are you laughing at 'ordinary?'
Michelle - judy is funny.
brad - yes, Judy
judy3ca - Sadie, that's just what I was thinking.
Kim/1/Ca - I think mine is the last week in March....i have to check. I can ASK the question, but not answer it real well.........hee hee hee....
Erin - Judy, you are nothing but ordinary
cavey - She is not ordinary, she is sleek
Michelle - judy forgot the "extra" in front of "ordinary"
brad - Sleek and bawdy (at times)
Erin - I mean anything but ordinary
Erin - I mean anything but ordinary
Erin - WHat the H** do I mean
Grace/IL - Judy might be ordinary. Some of the greatest achievements are done by ordinary people.
Sadie T - LOL Erin
judy3ca - Kim, you are very welcome. My Lit Coach is videotaping my Writer's Workshop conferences one day the week we go back. I hope the kids are themselves.
Erin - I gotta go. I can't think. I'm all nervous because Kim is making fun of me.
cavey - You know, I was going to pounce on you Erin, but in the holiday spirit, I exercised restraint
Sadie T - I have a poster in my classroom: "Our greatest heroes are ordinary people doing extraordinary things."
Kim/1/Ca - Out of the ordinary.......extra ordinary...........anything BUT ordinary........
brad - I'm loving that word---bawdy---anybody got anything else I can call bawdy
Sadie T - Erin, don't go! I'll even make some typos for you.
judy3ca - Erin, ROFLOL!!!!!
Erin - Thanks Sadie a true friend
brad - Kim--you're bawdy, right?
cavey - Oh Erin, I'll do some in a minute
Kim/1/Ca - A truly BAWDY tale.........reminds me of pirates.
Sadie T - No problem Aaron.
Grace/IL - Bawdy -- that's my term for a certain hotel in Selkirk, Manitoba.
brad - reminds me of another word--piebald--what's that mean?
Kim/1/Ca - Really sorry, Erin....(really looking sheepish)
Michelle - I don't think I've ever heard anyone use the word "bawdy"
Erin - LOL at brad
judy3ca - Isn't that a horse?
Grace/IL - Kim's NOT bawdy.
Kim/1/Ca - riebald, brad........
Kim/1/Ca - ribald
Kim/1/Ca - it's like bawdy
brad - OH, you're right, Judy! LOL
Grace/IL - piebald -- isn't that a spotted horse?
Erin - All right, I'm feeling better
brad - I thought of that one too, Kim
cavey - piebald means having patches of black and white like a horse
Kim/1/Ca - appaloosa is a spotted horse, grace. Riebald is a horse of another color.
judy3ca - Yup, piebald is "of different colors."
brad - When I die, you all can put "Bawdy" on my tombstone, kay?
Kim/1/Ca - Danny is home for the winter break. His room looks like a pig sty. Life is good.
brad - Bawdy with Ho Ho's please
Grace/IL - My dictionary agrees -- "of different colors", usually black and white.
Kim/1/Ca - Bawdy Brad, the Brand New Dad.
Erin - That would be a sight at brad's funeral. All the women standing around the grave site
brad - Now there is a decodable!!
Mrs. J/2/3 - Bedecked in plaid
brad - Ah--me public!
Kim/1/Ca - Throwing in HoHo's........
judy3ca - I think I'll have sleek and bawdy on my tombstone.
Erin - Reading decodable books
Michelle - how can "black and white" be "different colors"? back and white aren't even colors to begin with!
Mrs. J/2/3 - Ooh, that's deep Michelle
Erin - I want "Knew how to laugh" on min
Erin - mine
brad - Hey we had that "Text Matters" discussion at my class the week before Christmas
naneb - black and white are colors
judy3ca - Michelle, LOL, good call.
Kim/1/Ca - Good point, Michelle.......
cavey - Okay, Michelle, why don't you chat in white next time
Kim/1/Ca - I like John Donne's epitaph.
Sadie T - LOL Cavey
judy3ca - Well, Kim, what is it?
Grace/IL - black and white -- so says the dictionary
Michelle - ha ha, cavey. it's not a color.
Mrs. J/2/3 - And....Brad
brad - Hey, is Sharon out of town?
Michelle - (don't notice i'm in another non-color right now. I'm colorless.)
Kim/1/Ca - You know who he was? A medieval English poet and cleric. He married Anne.....her father disowned her. Very tragic.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Isn't black the presence of all color and white the absence of color?
Kim/1/Ca - He wrote "Death be not proud....."
brad - Kim, didn't he do the one about the flea?
judy3ca - I wish Sharon were here--she would have appreciated my picture book recommendation, sigh.
Kim/1/Ca - So his tombstone belongs to him and his wife. "John Donne. Anne Donne. Undone."
Michelle - black and white are Shades.
naneb - other way, black is absence of color and white is all colors but only in light
Sadie T - Have Jan or Nan been here tonight?
Erin - judy, we appreciate it...and you
Sadie T - Nan!! Sorry. You ARE here!
Kim/1/Ca - yes, judy..the flea too.
Grace/IL - bawdy -- boisterously or homorously indecent
Sadie T - But you are quiet....
naneb - I am here!! just silent!!
Mrs. J/2/3 - Oh, yah! Thanks, nan
naneb - but black and white are colors
brad - Well then that's me, Grace--bawdy Brad
Grace/IL - naneb's sitting in the corner.
brad - Nan, you are awfully quiet. All those tornadoes down near you
Kim/1/Ca - Black and white have to do with light........ALL LIGHT on the spectrum versus NO light on the spectrum. the primary colors of light are magenta, cyan, and yellow. Contrary to popular belief.
naneb - no Jan though and Sharon has lots of company for the week
cavey - Those of you who think white is not a color have never picked out paint
brad - My wife and I decided Walmarts are the new trailer parks for tornadoes
Michelle - not according to Art Prof's at Western Oregon University.
Erin - LOL cavey
naneb - it was very scary for a few days
naneb - too much wine
Sadie T - Primary colors of light - magenta, cyan, yellow; primary colors of art - red, blue, yellow
Alta Rose - Did you have a tornado near you, nan?
cavey - tornado magnets, brad?
Kim/1/Ca - My son the college student says that white is the absence of colors and black is a mixture of ALL colors. He has spoken. So believe.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Primary colors of pigment and primary colors of light are different
judy3ca - My daughter is driving me crazy because she wants the computer to talk to her boyfriend. What's wrong with this generation? Haven't they ever heard of the telephone? Good night, dear friends!
brad - When you are talking light and color, white and black are completely different things.
Michelle - yes...I did know that Sadie, from my Technical Theatre class at WOU
naneb - north of us but we spent all night with a tornado warning and it howled and blew all night long
Mrs. J/2/3 - Geez, my computer is slow tonight
Michelle - theatre/dance minor
Kim/1/Ca - No Sadie....look at your printer's color cartridge. what are the three colors?
Erin - Good night Judy!! I'll be thinking of you while I'm at Borders tomorrow
Alta Rose - Scary, nan.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Night, Judy
cavey - Bye Sleek one!
Alta Rose - Take Care, Judy!
brad - Wow, Michelle. I'm impressed. You and I have quite a bit in common though
Mrs. J/2/3 - The primary colors for printing are the same as for light
naneb - night Judy
brad - Fare thee well Bawdy Judy
Michelle - you too, brad?
Sadie T - Good night Judy!
brad - I was studying to be a director my first two years, so technically I guess I minored.
cavey - brb
naneb - except when they print they use all of them to make black and use the paper to lighten the color
Michelle - theatre and dance? what kind of dance? I studied Jazz.
Michelle - oh...ok.
Grace/IL - I hear the sounds of nightly retirement. Guess I need to go get some shut-eye. 'Night all.
brad - I took dance classes but I didn't study it. I only took Jazz and Modern before dropping
Erin - I'm heading out too. Good night all
Erin - Someone keep an eye on the typos for me
Kim/1/Ca - erin, i said i was sorry.........
Sadie T - No one else leave, okay?? LOL
Sadie T - I'll keep an aye on the typos for yuo
Mrs. J/2/3 - LOL, yuo
Mrs. J/2/3 - and aye
Sadie T - Wow, it got quiet in here when they left.
Kim/1/Ca - seriously.....it feels GOOD to read some fiction....must say.
brad - totally agree Kim. probably the first I've fictioned since this summer
Mrs. J/2/3 - I keep getting these annoying pop up ads. That's never happened here before
Alta Rose - It feels good to have time to BREATHE.
Michelle - I mainly read kids' books. Gotta keep current on the stuff I'm putting in my classroom library
brad - Kim, do you have "TEaching the Youngest Writers" by Freeman?
Kim/1/Ca - same here, brad. that can't be healthy.........LOL
Kim/1/Ca - amen, alta rose!
cavey - I've got to go, but since I wasn't using a color, you won't notice
Mrs. J/2/3 - I know. I can't believe a week has gone by already
Alta Rose - Really, Mrs. J?
brad - I go through periods of that Michelle
Michelle - do you have something else open? I'm not getting any pop-ups.
Kim/1/Ca - not yet, brad.........might be my next buy. I am trying to start Routman but just don't WANNA.
Mrs. J/2/3 - bye, cavey
Sadie T - Good nigiht Cavey!
Alta Rose - 'night, cavey.
Kim/1/Ca - ((cavey))
brad - Really, Kim, because I'd be all over Routman if I had it.
Michelle - bye, cavey!
brad - I really recommend the Freeman, Kim.
Mrs. J/2/3 - I don't think I have anything else open. I only have teachers.net at the bottom.
Kim/1/Ca - sure you would, brad........you'd be putting your SODA on it next to the puter while you play SIMS
brad - She's very sensitive to emergent writers needs and you just don't see that in a lot of these writing books
Michelle - his pop, actually
Sadie T - No pop-ups here.
brad - LOL--pop
Sadie T - What is Freeman's first name?
brad - It's pop around here.
Kim/1/Ca - sounds strange, kim....i have never had a pop up here at tnet..bob prides himself on that.
Kim/1/Ca - sorry, POP
Mrs. J/2/3 - pop here too
brad - Marcia Freeman
Kim/1/Ca - it's soda here.......
naneb - no pop here
Alta Rose - And here.
Kim/1/Ca - or DRINK
Kim/1/Ca - or "large diet"
brad - She talks about ESOL's Sadie' I'm not sure of your exact situation, but it could be worth a glance.
Alta Rose - It was ages before I figured out what soda was when I heard it on TV. Thought it was icecream.
naneb - here it's a cold drink or a Coke
Sadie T - Soda here. Except the kind Kim is getting on her computer, those are pop-ups, not soda-ups.
Michelle - there used to be a commercial around here for a local soft drink..."I want a POP [reverb.]...I want a Shasta!"
Sadie T - I am never quite sure of exact situation either, Brad. LOL
Mrs. J/2/3 - LOL, Sadie
brad - Michelle--we had Shasta's for a while. Not sure, we may still. We also had Faygo's
Michelle - I thought it was like ginger ale, or something when I heard "soda"
Mrs. J/2/3 - I remember that one, Michelle
Michelle - I don't know if they still sale Shasta here.
naneb - sounds like a cajun name Faygo
Mrs. J/2/3 - You don't have Faygo anymore, Brad?
Mrs. J/2/3 - typo, typo
brad - we might, but I wouldn't know
Michelle - why is it a cold drink? isn't milk a cold drink? or a beer?
Michelle - sell...i meant sell....
brad - Can I drink Shasta?
Mrs. J/2/3 - Faygo still alive and well here
Kim/1/Ca - you can still buy shasta here, michelle........synonymous with 'cheap soda' and usually sold by the case.
Mrs. J/2/3 - I don't know, can you?
Michelle - what makes Coke or Dr. Pepper a "cold drink" but not Orange juice?
Kim/1/Ca - yeah, brad........shasta cola, shasta orange, shasta black cherry, cream soda, etc.
naneb - it's a southern thang!! Someone will ask you if you want a Coke but they just mean a soft drink not only a Coke
brad - Yeah, Nan. I"ve noticed that
Kim/1/Ca - And why can't you EVER get a Diet Dr. Pepper at a fast food restaurant? The oNLY diet drink you can get is stupid diet coke and stupid diet pepsi........
Alta Rose - nan, I heard that when I attended a guided reading (F & P) session in Edmonton a couple years ago....
Michelle - Nan, when I was in high school, we learned that from a girl who transfered in from Alabama.
brad - it wouldn't sell kim (or so they claim)
Mrs. J/2/3 - You know what annoys me. If someone asks for a soda, I know what they want. But in New York, I asked what kind of pop they had and the waitress looked at me like she had no idea what I was talking about
Michelle - She'd offer you a Coke and then ask what kind you'd want.
Michelle - I hope it wouldn't sell kim. That's illegal!
Mrs. J/2/3 - I LOVE Diet Dr. Pepper. It's the only Diet POP I like
Alta Rose - The presenter was from the U.S. and told a funny story. When she got to Edmonton, she went to a restaurant and asked for a coke, but she really meant another flavour....
naneb - when my sister visited and asked for a pop my kids laughed for days
brad - Kim J, when I was waiting tables, I had someone ask me for sweet tea. I had no idea what the h ell it was. Had to ask a Southern waitress I worked with.
Alta Rose - Confused the poor waitress all to heck! It was a funny story!
Michelle - Kim in M, me too....about Diet Dr.P
brad - Nan, we used to laugh at my "Joisey" cousins when they came cuz they'd always say "Soda"
Mrs. J/2/3 - Sweat tea? Haven't heard that before
Sadie T - Well, now we DO have different flavors of Coke... Cherry Coke, Vanilla Coke....
brad - Vanilla Coke is my addiction
Michelle - sweet tea is big in texas.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Did anyone try the blue Pepsi?
brad - so Is Lemon Pepsi
naneb - my son brought his friend over so he could listen to my sister talk, she lives in South Dakota and sounds like the people in Fargo
Mrs. J/2/3 - Vanilla coke is good if really cold
Kim/1/Ca - When I worked for Bob's Big Boy, we could MAKE different flavors of coke at the fountain.......cherry coke, vanilla coke, lemon coke, chocolate coke........
brad - The blue Pepsi is nasty.
Sadie T - Oh yeah, forgot about the blue Pepsi and lemon Pepsi.
brad - Although I liked that Crystal Pepsi they had a few years ago
Kim/1/Ca - I loved FARGO.
Michelle - remember Pepsi Free?
brad - I still get that at Frisch's Big Boy, Kim. Had one not too long ago
Mrs. J/2/3 - That was the clear one, right?
naneb - sweet tea is big in the south, that's all people drink here
Alta Rose - Vanilla Coke!
Mrs. J/2/3 - Didn't try that one
Michelle - Crystal Pepsi confused me.
brad - I remember Michelle!! Whatever happened to that?
Sadie T - Didn't Crystal Pepsi really taste the same as regular?
Kim/1/Ca - They still have Big Boy there in Ohio, Brad? Only two left in CA...the first two originals.
Michelle - didn't sell well, i heard.
naneb - me too, Kim one of my all time favorite movies
Mrs. J/2/3 - What was it free of?
brad - Alta, you're like my wife. She hates it, but me and the kids, we love it
Mrs. J/2/3 - We have tons in MI
Kim/1/Ca - A real vanilla coke is good. With the syrup.
Michelle - free of caffeine and sugar, i think. For sure it was free of caffiene
Mrs. J/2/3 - (Big Boys that is)--Elias Bros
brad - They're all over here, Kim. They're Frisch's around here.
Mrs. J/2/3 - So it would be like caffeine free diet pepsi?
brad - When I was waiting tables, we didn't have Fountain Cherry Coke, but I'd make it from the bar. MMMM
Kim/1/Ca - Here in CA Big Boy was started by a guy named Bob Wyans. He invented the double deck hamburger when some musicians came in one night and asked for something different. The rest is history.........
Michelle - that's right...about Pepsi Free
brad - Are they just not busy out there, Kim?
Michelle - I did the same, brad.
Michelle - bob's big boy is gone from this area
brad - I also made Lemon Cokes (and Lime). I was always doctoring the Coke (I'm a Pepsi drinker)
Kim/1/Ca - He sold out to Marriott in the late 70s........all kinds of problems. Took over by Cocos or Carrows. Only two original Bob's Big Boys left in Toluca Lake (Burbank) by the studios and in Glendale. Wyans long dead.
Michelle - oh man, I'm getting hungry.
brad - We have two in my town.
Kim/1/Ca - All the kitchy stuff.......collectibles now.
naneb - I had fried crab claws and gumbo for dinner!! yum
brad - Speaking of kitschy. Did everyone else
brad - Mcdonalds go fifites?
Michelle - i haven't had a real meal since christmas
Mrs. J/2/3 - None of ours are, Brad, but I have seen some in Grand Rapids and Detroit
Kim/1/Ca - No, just the #1 store in Downey is original and 50s.
naneb - we went out to eat
brad - LOL, Where's Erin?
Michelle - one of ours did, i think
Alta Rose - Nope.
naneb - I remember those old stores
brad - One of ours just did (and it looks nice) but then I noticed that ALL of them went to the fifties take-out bags (and the Happy Meals went back to the fold-up boxes)
Kim/1/Ca - The Bob's in Toluca lake was a Drive In. used to go there as a kid. You could get an "inside tray" or an "outside tray."
Mrs. J/2/3 - Our Happy Meals are in the fold up boxes
Michelle - really? we haven't had a box Happy Meal in so long.
brad - Oh, Kim, all of our drive-in Big Boy's are long gone
Mrs. J/2/3 - What makes the bags fifties take-out bags?
brad - Are there still any Burger Chef's around?
Mrs. J/2/3 - None here
brad - Instead of current logo, Kim, they have a fifties logo with a little "hamburger man" that says Speedy.
Michelle - I've never heard of Burger Chef.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Oh, thanks Brad
Kim/1/Ca - yeah...that's the logo on the first store, Brad.
Michelle - Our McD's doesn't have that. Went on Monday.
brad - When I was growing up, we had one in my small hometown. And then they all turned into hardee's in the early-mid eighties. Just wondering if they were taken over by hardee's or what. (Speaking of which--hardee's doesn't look like it's doing too well either)
Michelle - no hardee's here.
Mrs. J/2/3 - We don't have any here (Hardees). I think the only time I have been to one is on the Ohio Turnpike, Brad
brad - It was the only fast food in my hometown. (except Mcdonald's out by the highway)
Kim/1/Ca - Well, kidlets want the puter.......gotta go.
Mrs. J/2/3 - Bye, Kim
Michelle - aww...bye
Michelle - I'm going to go too. Very hungry.
brad - where are you in michigan again?
Michelle - see you next year!
brad - michelle--it's too late to be eating
Mrs. J/2/3 - Battle Creek--Southwestern MI. About 2 hours west of Detroit
Alta Rose - Me too. Feeling kinda miserable with this cold. 'Night all!
Mrs. J/2/3 - Bye, Michelle
Sadie T - I'm going to go too, good night!
Mrs. J/2/3 - Bye, Alta
brad - Well then let's all go at once then. OLO
Mrs. J/2/3 - Night, Sadie
Mrs. J/2/3 - Geez, I guess we're wrapping up!
