Mama B - Welcome to tonight's chat for Retired Teachers.
Susie - What do you do with al of your teaching material?
Mama B - I gave most of mine to my daughter who is a teacher and told her to throw out what she did not want. I gave some to some teacher friends, too
Susie - I would like to sell mine. What do you think/
TEX - Susie, I left a lot at school and gave a lot away. Some of my videos and hands on stuff I kept
TEX - Go for it Susie, I do not see anything wrong with that
Mama B - What grade or subject did you teach, Susie?
Susie - I also gave my "stuff' away but how about all of your units, files and resource material??
Susie - I taught 1st and Kindergarten
TEX - Susie, most of the young teachers coming in do not teach like I did so they did not want it.
TEX - I taught in middle school. I was old fasion and did not let the kids have popcorn and cokes everytime they had a test.
Mama B - Susie, If you can sell the stuff, go for it. I think a lot of new teachers might want some help and would enjoy having it ready for them
Susie - Thanks Tex. Guess it is just hard to toss all of that hard work away
Mama B - Tex, I never let them have anything during or after a test. I can not understand why some teachers think we have to do such
Susie - How long have you been retired?
TEX - Yes, Susie, I travel a lot and have video that I bought and wanted to keep. I have canons and things like that that I kept
Mama B - I kept some of my more personal stuff, such as pictures, seashells,
Mama B - I retired in Jan. 1997
TEX - that was me Mama B cokes were a special treat. The principal kept telling us no but the new out of college teachers, listened to their prof.
Mama B - Susie, where are you from?
TEX - Susie, one week and one day.
Mama B - I was one of those old fashioned teachers and I never apologized for it, either
Susie - I am from N.C.
TEX - preal , join in. I only bite one person a day and have bit mine for today.
Mama B - Pearl, Where did you teach?
Mama B - Susie, where in NC. My daughter in law is from there, Near Washington, NC and Bath, NC
Susie - MamaB, Where are you from?
Mama B - I taught in Georgia, but now live in Hilton Head, SC
TEX - I did not either Mama. Had the president of the school board make sure that her granddaughter was in my class all three years.
Mama B - Tex, that was a nice compliment to you. It pays to be tough
Susie - I live near Raleigh
Mama B - Susie, my daughter teaches kindergarten
TEX - All of my history students except one passed the history part of the TAAS, the one that did not was special ed and was having a bad time.
TEX - Ask away, I just took the History quiz on T V and rated a civil war vet.
Mama B - This is a forum for retired teachers, not homework central
Mama B - Good for you, Tex
Mama B - I need to go take some meds. Nice chatting with you, Tex.

Chuckles - Bob, do you teach as well as looking after the board?
Bob R/CA - or Chuckles, or Uni - anyone going to gatherings this year?
uni/IN - Just thought I would welcome advice how to make it easier for her? She really didn't eant to retire yet but her hubby did so they are!
TEX - Yes, Bob, Goose and I are in charge of the meeting in Colorado Springs
Bob R/CA - no chuckles, I'm a ringer, never taught. I worked for the other side. ;o)
uni/IN - No can't afford luxury trips - one son finishing freshman year in college (Northwestern) and second son applying for college (her will be senior)
Bob R/CA - (not administration, but the students)
TEX - uni, they gave my wife a memory book. Had the students, teachers and others to tell things the remembered about her. It is great
uni/IN - Hi Grady
Chuckles - S'Ok, you do what you do well
Bob R/CA - Uni, are they thinking about teaching too?
uni/IN - Yes we did that too - we are finished with school (last Friday) but she is still packing her personal belongings and sorting
TEX - Chuckles, I cause trouble LOL
uni/IN - Gosh I hope not Bob!
Bob R/CA - Grady, that's awesome, are you going to take some video this year? I'd love to get some realvideo clips up this year
Chuckles - Tex, I've noticed. You do that well too
TEX - I had to do that uni, it is hard.
TEX - O K Bob will do and then mail them to you.
Bob R/CA - great! Is anyone doing shirts for you guys this year?
uni/IN - No money in it - older one poitical science - younger one is computer nerd - game designer - he'll make triple what his father and I do! And be respected for it as well!
TEX - Chuckles where are you?
Bob R/CA - (I can't get any interest in the San Diego gathering - wahhhh!)
TEX - Yes, Bob, Barb is
uni/IN - I would love to go to San Diego (always wanted to go to the zoo.
Chuckles - I'm in Canada - New Brunswick. Somewhat removed from gatherings.
Bob R/CA - I want to order one too, and have you guys all sign it in markers then send it back to me
Bob R/CA - Chuckles, there will be one in CA next year I hear
TEX - Well Bob you will be welcome to come to ours. We will take the train to the top of Pikes Peak, tour the AF Acad. and the Olympic Center
uni/IN - And I have to go to my parents 50th wedding anniversary in PA in August - can't afford two trips to PA
TEX - Chuckles, I have been up your way. Hopewell Rocks are very interesting.
Bob R/CA - Uni, there are 20 million people in southern california - you'd think I could get 20 of them to come to this oasis for a weekend, huh?
Chuckles - Thinking about it Bob. but I'm wondering if retiring will take me away from this field of interest
uni/IN - I would love to go to one in Carolina!
Bob R/CA - Tex, I may do that yet
Bob R/CA - Chuckles, I don't think it's that easy to get away ;o)
uni/IN - Are any of you "young" retirees - retiring cause you can not because you have to?
Bob R/CA - uni, first I heard of that, is that in the outer banks?
Chuckles - Hopewell, is sort of the poor man's answer to the Grand Canyon
TEX - Bob, goose is coming. They have a wedding to attend so they will be there Wed and Thur
uni/IN - There isn't one - just want to go to one there!!!!!!
Bob R/CA - the outer banks would be an awesome location. Maybe next year....
uni/IN - I went to college in Chapel Hill - would love to live there - Indiana is rather boring!!!!!!!!!
Chuckles - Uni, don't have to, but I'm eligible and didn't want to flunk the sanity test.
TEX - Chuckles, we started our tour at St Andrews by the Sea then went up the coast. Then to NS and PEI and came back over the bridge. Had a great time at King's Landing
Bob R/CA - I used to vacation in Nags Head all the time
Chuckles - This is my first time chatting, finding it difficult to read and type
TEX - We vacation in Palo Duro Canyon, the Grand Canyon of Texas
Chuckles - Tex, sounds lovely. How was the weather when you were here?
TEX - Chuckles, that way you can blame your poor typing on trying to read the messages. That is what I do
TEX - Chuckles, It was cool and wet.
Chuckles - We tend to specialize in "natural air-conditioning"
TEX - Howdy deke
uni/IN - Chuckles? Sanity test? Meaning staying in too long?
Chuckles - Right, Uni!
TEX - Chuckles how many years did you teach?
uni/IN - I think this is why my friend is retiring - she can and she watched two other in the past years get awfully cranky at the end - she didn't want to end up like that.
Chuckles - 33
TEX - Howdy history
uni/IN - I cam to teaching as a second career rather late in the day so even if I make it to 65 I will only teach 20 yrs
TEX - Chuckles I made it 38 and wanted to retire while I still loved teaching
Chuckles - Uni, I've become so mellow in the past year, Im practically comatose
uni/IN - this is what my friend said Grady
TEX - uni, I started teaching when I was 22
uni/IN - LOL@chuckles
Chuckles - Good decision Tex
uni/IN - Well with three teens, two stillin hs it will be a LONG time before I can even consider retiring
TEX - Chuckles, I was planning on that but I had a student that kept me awake. There is only one like him. Thanks heaven
uni/IN - I actually was in grad school until I was 27
Chuckles - My nest emptied last year Uni, loving it!
uni/IN - Finished a few degrees in history
uni/IN - Started my family about 2 yrs later - I guess I am a slow starter!!!!!!!!!!
TEX - We got rid of the last one three years ago. I told them I was going to retire and sell the house and take off in the motorhome and call them when I needed money
Chuckles - Tex. I was gifted with an autistic boy last fall who kept me awake for a few months, till he got another placement
Chuckles - LOL, Tex
uni/IN - LOL - my hubbie who is 10 yrs older keeps talking about retiring and living off my salary - he hasn't looked at my contract closely lately!!!!
Chuckles - I didn't catch it - are you retired Uni?
uni/IN - My youngest is 14 - will be a while
TEX - Chuckles this one was ADD. He really was but mom would not let him have meds. Did not want him on drugs. She has been arrested several times for drugs. Figure that out. She wanted the money for her drugs
Chuckles - Good grief!
uni/IN - No I am not retired - came to ask how to make retirement easier for my friend who is retiring this year (youngish - under 60) she didn't ant to retire but did npt want to fail sanity test either
TEX - Bob, our principal was one of the top three in the state of Texas. She is a neat person
Chuckles - I found this board last August when I was surfing for tips for a great final year. Got that and much more.
uni/IN - It is a really neat gethering place although some people like to boss others a bit too much here
TEX - uni, we are all teachers and that is what we are famous for LOL
uni/IN - Bossing??? LOL
Chuckles - I've noticed that some are quite "earnest"
uni/IN - Yes but we are also suppose to listen to others opinions
uni/IN - Earnest was a polite way of saying that!
TEX - Chuckles, I like it because people that are not being nice can get kicked off
Chuckles - Sometimes I wish I cared that much.
Chuckles - Oh was that a warning?
TEX - uni, or read one mans on the chat board.
uni/IN - Warning?
Chuckles - Warning not to get kicked off?
TEX - No, chuckles, I have seen it get heated when two want to make their views known and do not want to agree
TEX - No Chukles, we get some like pimpboy on at times and off they go.
uni/IN - Yeah - well.... I think I may mosey over to the other room and say "hi" although you two are fun to caht with alone
uni/IN - Not so crowded here
TEX - I have to be going also. Had a very busy day. So bye all
Chuckles - Sounds interesting, I should visit more often
Chuckles - Me too, then. G'night
