sukiRR - I am sped certified
Martina - Now he must be a super person then lol

Laurie - They are just little kids in big bodies!!
sukiRR - I am pure American
Martina - I teach grade 3 at an all white preparatory school out here
Tina T. - yeah, i've worked w/ hs-ers before; i get along pretty well w/ that age group
sukiRR - Third grade is a nice age
sukiRR - My youngest is 10 now

sukiRR - My son is here ..he loves ja
Martina - He's a smart boy then lol

sukiRR - We went to Lime cay three times when we were in ja in february
Martina - what do you like about the place?
sukiRR - he steered the boat..a 45 foot racing sailboat.
Martina - Oh i'VE ACTUALLY NEVER GONE OUT THERE HOPEFULLY SOON THOUGH ON A sUNDAY AFTERNOON
sukiRR - Well its not the greatest but melrose coyuld not get the time off for us to go to a real beach and it was better than Kinston harbour proper lol
Martina - Hey mind I have to cuss you about my Kingston Harbour lol
sukiRR - ts not bad....but watcg out for the baby portuguese man of war jellyfish. we say 3or 4 of them there
sukiRR - you could go in the harbour but you might come out glowing from god knows what
Martina - how old are you Suki?

sukiRR - I have two older kids 21 and 18 from my first marriage and two grand babies
Martina - I am 20, 21 in October
sukiRR - both just turned 1 last week. I am a busy lady

sukiRR - I am going to Greece next week to see my folks. They have a house in Crete.
sukiRR - I am taking my youngest with me.
sukiRR - My daughter will already be there.
Martina - I wish I were in your shoes I'm on break now and I'm just so bored
sukiRR - She is taking care of my mum who just had knee replacement surgery
sukiRR - I taught summer school till last week.
Martina - I'm sorry to hear
sukiRR - I am a Reading Recovery teacher...are you familiar?
sukiRR - Mum is doing great..better than before
Martina - Yes I am, my school offers sec ed too
sukiRR - Do they do Reading Recovery in Ja??
sukiRR - Its a program from new Zealand
sukiRR - We work with students selected from the lowest third of first graders

sukiRR - and work with four students one on one for 30 minutes a day for up to 20 weeks

sukiRR - The goal is to get students to the average performance band of their class

sukiRR - Just explaining Reading recovery.

sukiRR - I work with low acheiving first graders one on one

sukiRR - for up to 20 weeks
Martina - okay we do that but not under that specific system

kk104 - My friend teaches Reading Recovery. It is a great program! She has great success.
sukiRR - In RR you do Reading half time and another job for the rest.
Martina - yOU AND sUK HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON THEN!
sukiRR - Its great to bring the procedures to SPED ed kids too.
sukiRR - They work for them also but it takes longer
kk104 - This year I will be teaching reading to a self-contained LD reading group.
sukiRR - they don't usually "discontinue" successfully but gain a lot fromthe program.
kk104 - I am really looking forward to it.
Martina - I'll research on it and maybe introduce it to my school could you aid me?

sukiRR - You have to go through a years training program, Martina nder strict supervision..But read Marie Clay
kk104 - It is about teaching reading comprehension.

sukiRR - too often we sped teachers focus on visual anaysis and leave off the comprehension

sukiRR - I do not use 4 blocks..we use balanced literacy a la Fountas and Pinnel

kk104 - Depends on which BUG you have.
sukiRR - It is so hard to maintain crowd control during centers and guided reading

sukiRR - then flip errord over words multiply I tryiong to figure out how best to explian

sukiRR - fromthe error rate you calculate accracy Instructional level is what a child can reac at 90-94% accracy
sukiRR - Anything below 90% accuracy is frustration
sukiRR - so basically if you have a [passage of 150 word more than 15 errors too hard
sukiRR - there is a formula but it is hard to explain without looking atit
sukiRR - then you can check comprehension using a retell
