Bette - I guess we could start anytime. someone have a particular issue to address tonight?
NSTA Shirley - Did anyone read Post Gazette Sub Series
Stanley - Shirley, I enjoyed your input on the Post-Gazette articles. http://www.post-gazette.com/headlines/20010107subs2.asp
knightmom - yes Shirley. Interesting article.
knightmom - Your input was excellent!
Bette - Stanley, I enjoy reading your posts on the board. http://teachers.net/mentors/substitute_teaching/
NSTA Shirley - Thanks
Bette - I have a question, ok? Anyone read my post today about getting direct feedback from teachers?
knightmom - Not yet Bette. Just got to puter now. What was on your mind?
Cheryl R - Yes I read it. I don't get much feedback either. Most of the teachers I sub for I know from when I student taught so I know what they expect.
knightmom - Fill us in, Bette.
Stanley - Bette, I've not yet read it... Let me open up another browser.
knightmom - You wanted the teacher to actually write to you about your work as a sub?
NSTA Shirley - Curious to know, what is biggest sub concern in your District
Bette - yes. I really have no way of knowing how well I am doing, even though I do go back to some schools more than once.
Bette - Maybe "no response" is better than "one", yes?
Stanley - Bette, I'll read the strand shortly. However, from what you said, I think classroom Ts are plainly just too busy to be "bothered" -- at least in most cases!
subgirl - agree, stan
knightmom - Do you talk to the teachers you have subbed for when you go back to the same school. like introducing and saying, Hi I subbed for you last week. Just wanted to know if you had any concerns about the job I did for you.. You could do that. I have.
subgirl - it wouldn't hurt to ask a principal to drop in
subgirl - or to let you know what they think
Bette - Thanks knightmom, that would work!
NSTA Shirley - we are too invisible
subgirl - subs are taken for granted, so if you want a critique....ask
Stanley - Bette, read my response [finally] to Ruth the author. I think the call backs are a BIG key in most cases!
subgirl - i've grown used to the invisibility....even like it at times...eating lunch alone in room....etc
knightmom - I don't think I am taken for granted. I have been told time and again how wonderful it is to have us around and that we do a great job of handling the classes when the teachers are gone. I heard only one complaint from a new art teacher who was upset with her sub for going ahead in the lesson plan.
Magoo - subgirl, eating ALONE??? Unless you munch on garlic and onion sandwiches, you should not be alone, that's not very friendly of them.
subgirl - my choice, magoo
knightmom - So MAgoo, any more news on your situation with the hiring of another sub when you were right there?
NSTA Shirley - Whenever I approach a teacher I don't know, and volunteer feedback, I get a blank stare
Cheryl R - Sub girl, I agree. Eating alone is awful. I prefer eating with the teachers plus they get to know who you are and MIGHT request you.
Stanley - subgirl, I always feel VERY scitterish about inviting administrators in. I WELCOME them to observe, but I **DON'T** like to request it. Strange, huh?
Millie - Hello, Millie from Orlando, member National Substitute Teachers Alliance
subgirl - no....you'd feel like you were giving a command performance...i understand
athena !! - may i ask...what are some of you paid in your areas for subbing?
Stanley - Shirley, in San Diego City Schools there has been an ongoing, CHRONIC problem about Subs getting paid for ALL of their days. Seems to be improving NOW, however.
Magoo - knightmom, the plot thickens......the Situation has been brought to the attention of the local teacher's union....I can't file a grievance because am not in the union (go, NSTA!), but the matter may not be as settled as some would like. Felt REAL good to have some teachers go to bat for me, and other subs.
knightmom - $80/day here. Have retirement with that. Why I don't know.
cyberian - In Milwaukee do you get contracted for the whole yr.?
Magoo - Sub pay where I am (SE Wash.) is $80/day, no benefits.
knightmom - No contract. Just on a list.
athena !! - i get $65/day in a public school
laurap - athena: $67 per day here
Stanley - athena, San Diego County ranges from, I believe, $75 to $120 for day to day work.
Quique - I get $80 and $85 in San Diego's North County
athena !! - no benefits here either, nothing
Bette - same here in this county Stan
Cheryl R - Athena, I get $75 per day in one city. Forget what it is in the other one because I haven't subbed yet there.
knightmom - Actually I am in a suburb of Milw. So the city proper of Milw I think pays more, but I am happy here in my home district.
knightmom - Athena. you need a better job or join the union!
Magoo - Cheryl and cyberian, you are LUCKY to have had good relationships with your dads....I never have, never will, just lots of pain, always envied girls who had dads who cared.
subgirl - $80 in wash state med sized town
NSTA Shirley - In San Diego City--you have subs in union
Cheryl R - I live near Boston but sub in the suburbs. Looking for a position though.
Stanley - Quique -- small world! South Bay is a **TERRIFIC** district -- particularly if you are bilingual!
Quique - does it help them? any benefits?
athena !! - and for those of you who are scheduled to work and it then becomes a snow day, are you paid for taht day?
Quique - Stanley-I taught 6th gr bilingual last yr in Chula Vista...
Magoo - Do any of you haul tons of stuff when you sub, or do you just make do with whatever you find in the room?
subgirl - hahahah...paid when school cancels...hahahha
subgirl - what a q, athena
knightmom - My principal wants me to get my certification so I can teach regular. I am too old and poor for that. plus I don't need the hassle of full time teaching.
subgirl - sorry to laugh hysterically there
athena !! - i use whatever is in the room, but i go to a middle school, not elem
NSTA Shirley - Yes--A long term job schlepping a tray of textbooks from room to room
Bette - I keep a goodie bag with ideas for different grade levels, just in case.
Magoo - OOOOOOO, wish I was bilingual! I would LOVE to work in a more cosmopolitan area!! Very 'white bread' here, very boring.
Cheryl R - Magoo, my mom told me that I was lucky to have him on my wedding day almost two years ago. She lost her dad before her wedding day so I at least got walked down the aisle and got to dance with him.
knightmom - Never athene. No school...no pay![]()
Quique - Stanley, do you live in South Bay?
laurap - athena: no pay for snow day if scheduled for reg sub day; as a long term sub i was paid for the two snowdays we have had so far this year, but if we go over five and have to make up days at end of year, i do not get paid
Stanley - Correct about San Diego City's union: That's why we're pd oddball figures like $113.97/day. [Collectively bargained % increases.]
athena !! - that's ok subgirl i laughed as i typed it
Cheryl R - magoo, make do with what is there. Used to lug a bag, got too heavy.
Bette - my worst day was in a bilingual class and I don't speak Spanish. I'm lucky in that I can pick and choose where I want to work
athena !! - knight......what union?
Jackie - Hi everyone. We don't get paid for snow days here in NH
NSTA Shirley - I agree Kinight about the hassle
subgirl - i doubt if maggoo's days are boring somehow
Magoo - knightmom, if memory serves, you are younger than I am, and I grad. college at 51.....went back to college at 47...you are never too old, altho I think now I would be too tired!![]()
Cheryl R - Jackie where in NH?
Jackie - Merrimack
knightmom - I carry a breifcase of stuff. still have to figure out how to make use of it though. Got to get to a copy store so I can copy all those word pouzzles ets. for slow days.
athena !! - hey.....i sub in anything....spanish...home ec...art....french....i just let the kids think i know everything
Stanley - Quinque, No, I live in what is varyingly called Park West or Banker's Hill. If you're bilingual & desire a contract, you SHOULD have no problem!
laurap - athena: i will try to answer again; my previous attempt doesn't appear to have gone thru; as a daily sub, we do not get paid if booked for a snow day, but on my long term assignment, i have been paid for the two calamity days we've had so far.... if it goes over five days, and we have to make any up at end of year, i will not get paid for those days
Quique - Stan-I'm working mostly in Encinitas now, hoping for an opening
Bette - Athena, how do you "fake" Spanish. Tell me quick!
NSTA Shirley - Calamity--what a great term
athena !! - thanks laurap
knightmom - Athena, the NSTA. SHirley can tell youabout it.
athena !! - bette.....ask the kids who do well in the class
Magoo - Cheryl, on my wedding day (Sept. 5, 1964), VERY small, cheap wedding , father did not like my guy, wouldn't pay for wedding, and as we were about to start down the aisle, he turned to me and said, and he wasn't kidding: "You know, you could still get out of this if you wanted to."
NSTA Shirley - sounds like Streetcar Named Desire
athena !! - magoo......and what did you say to him???????
subgirl - with you there, athena.....my best compliment ever was when a kid said she learned more sewing from me than from her reg tchr....sewing!! me??!! wow
athena !! - thanks knight
NSTA Shirley - NSTA is the hottest Sub Advocacy Group around
athena !! - LOL subgirl
Millie - We are having a wonderful National Conference in Orlando this July! Have any of you visited our website?
Quique - I applied to San Diego city but there's no shortage, can u believe it?
Stanley - Back to the Post-Gazette articles: I downloaded the LOT of them! Whether what I believed or not, I felt them to be accurate of what's "out there!"
Magoo - knightmom, can't you make copies at the school where you're subbing??? I can do that, and then a couple times a year I bring them a ream of copy paper to keep my conscience clear![]()
knightmom - Yes Magoo I do lack energy. with one 15 yr old still at home (studying for finals now I hope) and a 20 yr old in college and hubby I am tired after a sub day. School would be too much although interesting!
Bette - I saw the note and wondered if there will be anything here on the West coast Millie
Cheryl R - Want to hear something almost as tragic? I had an interview for a long term of three weeks. Got a phone call the next day (husband answered) asking me for a 2nd interview. I called back on Tues (day after funeral) and haven't heard anything since.
NSTA Shirley - http://www.geocities.com/nstasubs just a plug
athena !! - we need a union here !!!! we are not paid well at all. it just went to 65 this year from 60.
subgirl - sometimes it helps in some classes to be learning right along with the kids.....taking the.."okay, we can figure this out together" attitude
Millie - Hello, my CA friend and president!
athena !! - i wish the subs here would just refuse to sub 1 day and see how the schools would manage
Quique - I asked a couple districts if they would pay my fee to go to a math conference, but no such luck!
subgirl - there's always summer school, knightmom
laurap - stanley: i too downloaded the whole bunch from post-gazette.... thought they were good reading, but i agree with pambre that the sub point of view article was unsatisfactory
Magoo - athena!!, I said something like, "Well, I'm going down there, see ya" and down I went....VERY long aisle, huge Presb. church, my honey waiting at the other end. My father did not think it would last--I married an artist, that made him a bum in my father's eyes--we had our 36th anniv. last fall. Nyah, nyah to my father!![]()
Millie - Shirley, found roommate for conference today. Edie, Berkley
Stanley - Quinque, THERE'S a shortage of bilingual -- unless they've so glutted things with their BECCA Interns @ 30K/yr. Do you find Encinitas to have a bit of an attitude? I think their sub pay is only $75.
NSTA Shirley - VP and Treasurer!
knightmom - I offered for anyone to share a ride to the conference in July (I'll drive) if they come as far a Chicago. $60.00 is cheap for a conference where we can learn something!
knightmom - Any takers?
subgirl - they would manage, athena....they'd just lower their standards
NSTA Shirley - Edie will be a great roomie
athena !! - magoo......wow. you were right. is your father still alive?
Quique - Its $80 now. Luckily I'm at a school that loves me.
NSTA Shirley - Yes-We'll learn a lot in good company
Millie - You said it Knightmom! Send me some money, honey!!
subgirl - i love that we share the good websites on our board
Quique - The personnel sec'y has an attitude though
athena !! - i'm at a school that loves me too
Magoo - I have subbed 2 classes in the same room due to shortage of subs....it is do-able, if hectic, and I made darn sure I got paid for BOTH rooms.
subgirl - have saved some on my favorites to read later
knightmom - You are right subgirl, but that's when I really don't have money! No school...no money.
Quique - I just need them to offer me a position!
Stanley - laurap, I only read pambre's comment in the sub article -- too busy downloading. I thought pambre, er "Evelyn" was RIGHT ON in her comments!!
Millie - If you have always wanted to have a substitute teacher organization in your area, NSTA will show you the way!
subgirl - good for you magoo
NSTA Shirley - Think Aboit it Everyone, we can't work a full school year
subgirl - i've covered two classes as well, but only out of goodness of my heart, didn't even think about asking for double pay
athena !! - how millie?
Bette - NSTA will tell me if there is one already in this area, right? I just need to log on?
Stanley - kmom & NSTA folk, I hope to still be working in July! Did 237 days last yr, & will try for a similar amount this yr!
athena !! - bette......are you bette in TX ?
knightmom - I called in to a talk show on a radio station here talking about year round schools and how they would benefit everyone. Lots of people calling in agreed, but there were parents (believe it) who said they love the summer time with their kids.
Magoo - athena!!, yes, the old poop, he just turned 85. My folks div. after 24 yrs., Mom died about 4 yrs. ago. My Father has $$ in banks all over town....my brother keeps track, says we both are still in the will at this point!![]()
Bette - No, bette in Calif.
Millie - Yes, Bette, write Shirley!
subgirl - just figured it balanced out with the days I am asked to cover music when only kids who can't go on trip are there
Quique - Subbing is too easy, a false sense of security...no meetings, lesson planning, parent contacts etc
athena !! - ok bette
athena !! - magoo.......LOL
Stanley - Quinque, well good luck up there. Where abouts do you live?
NSTA Shirley - Bette, Where from?
Bette - will do, thanks
Bette - Modesto, Ca.
Quique - Sorrento Valley near the merge
subgirl - have you done both, quique?
SubDuck - Bette, where in CA., I'm in the shakey San Fernando Valley. Quique, right on about subbing being easy, but i try not to tell!![]()
Stanley - Shirley, one of these yrs might you have it in San Diego? At least then I'd be able to attend SOME of the sessions!
Magoo - Hey, Stanley!! Didn't see you in here. You are in a year-round school, right?? I'm in a 180-day one, but usually sub 120-130 days of that.
NSTA Shirley - Yes San Fernado Valley--know it well
knightmom - Stan, you like year round schools right and the kids like it too, right. Do you think the teachers spend a lot of time reviewing stuff in the start of year and after long breaks?
Quique - yep-6th gr bilingual last yr w/ 27 special day-type students and no aide or admin support!!
NSTA Shirley - Not far from Fresno
NSTA Shirley - San Diego would be a GREAT Conference location---maybe the "third"
subgirl - yikes
laurap - hey, ralmap...
Magoo - Shirley, have the sub conference in SEATTLE next time![]()
Stanley - Quique, that was 1 heck of a drive you made to Chula last yr!![]()
Bette - Fresno is about 1.5 hours away. Think they might have a sub conference? I'd rather go to SD!!!!!
knightmom - HI ralmap!
Quique - Stanley, do you work in SDCS? which schls?
subgirl - tough to do the job without admin support
Quique - Stressed me out good!
ralmap - hey laurap..
NSTA Shirley - NO, NOT IN FRESNO!!!!!
Bette - SD, right!
knightmom - Hey SHirley how about Chicago or Milw. ( we have a hotel that has indoor water park right downtown!
Cheryl R - How about in Boston?
Millie - You will find GREAT airfares to Orlando, and we have a reasonable deluxe hotel!!
Magoo - I have neices/nieces/? who went to year-round school in Portland, Ore., loved it, parents loved it--6 wks of school, then 1 week off. Teachers said kids did not forget as much as they do over summers.
athena !! - yes -- good idea cheryl
Stanley - Magoo, I've access to multi-tracked, year-round schools. Those folk virtually NEVER stop! Yeaaaaah!!![]()
cyberian - Waterpark???what hotel?
Bette - I do year round also. I just notice that the rooms (because they are shared) tend to be very cluttered.
athena !! - in UK they have a week off after every 6 weeks of school
NSTA Shirley - Do any of you in S.D. City Schools know Deberie Gomez
Julie - hi all I forgot about chat oops
Millie - Join NSTA and vote for SF for next conference!
Magoo - Cheryl, Boston is a good idea---does Southwest go there? They have the best prices.![]()
Cheryl R - I could never do Year Round. I need my summers off.
Bette - SF would be great also!
Quique - what school is she at Shirley?
Cheryl R - I think Southwest goes to Boston.
knightmom - It's the Milw Hilton Hotel.
laurap - hey julie
Quique - Southwest flies to manchester, NH
Stanley - Quique, wherever they send me! A school with LOTS of biling is Perkins, in Barrio Logan almost beneath the bridge. A LOT of EXCELLENT Ts there, IMO!!
Magoo - Everytime somebody says 'S.D.' I think they mean South Dakota instead of, apparently, San Diego.........
NSTA Shirley - She's a Deputy Supt came from Fresno
Bette - Anyone here in the Denver, Salt Lake area/
Cheryl R - San Fran sounds good to me also. I have a brother there plus my in laws live in San Jose.
Quique - Yes, I know the school
knightmom - The offer is still open to drive there with me and save money people! (although with gas prices here, it may change!
Julie - Cheryl glad you are here!!!
ralmap - I used to live in Dunedin, FL
Magoo - I VOTE FOR MANCHESTER, N.H., wherever that is.........if SW airlines goes there, I'm game. (course, I would be so 'game' if I'd bathe...)
NSTA Shirley - SF is nice, too
Millie - Where are you from ralmap?
knightmom - Magoo, you scamp!![]()
Cheryl R - I'm in Boston but is anyone here from Indiana at all? Possibly will be going there this summer for a week.
Stanley - Shirley, what do you know of Dr. Gomez? In the next day or so I need to invite her to speak to our County's Visiting Ts' Assn. She did so last yr, though I was unable to attend.
knightmom - Right now I'll take anyplace than WIsc!
athena !! - i like that magoo......i can drive there
ralmap - Husbands job moved us to Albuquerque 5 years ago.
Magoo - I vote for wherever Southwest Airlines flies to, actually.....................
Cheryl R - Julie, what do you mean?
NSTA Shirley - Well, we were glad to see Deberie go
Quique - Stanley, after I went thru the whole process to register w/ San diego city w more fingerprint copies imaginable, then I got hired in Chula Vista the next week! That was last yr

NSTA Shirley - Deberie comes from Texas, orig.
Millie - We invite you to NSTA's website: www.geocities.com/nstasubs/ Find out more about our national organization for substitute teachers.
Stanley - Quique, Dr. Gomez is the Human Resources Director for San Diego City Schools. Last yr, her 1st with the District, contract opportunities for subs GREATLY increased!
subgirl - must log off all....good to see you live and almost in person
athena !! - how will i know if there is a conference??????
Cheryl R - Kmom, why didn't you say that earlier? I LOVE Choc Chip Cookies warm. I'll go just for that.
Magoo - ralmap, I did my Peace Corps training in Albuquerque the summer of '63...do they still have a program there?
knightmom - Who cares whre they fly too. it's the cookies I want!
SubDuck - Knight., have they expanded their service? Used to be only served with lunch flights. I always booked around those cookies!!
Bette - Sorry guys, it's been fun but I gotta run and get dinner for the family. See you next week, look forward to your posts!
Julie - Cheryl just know you have been through a lot lately
NSTA Shirley - Yes we taught Deberie a LOT

Cheryl R - Thank you then Julie.
Quique - I spoke w Sandra Huezo in San diego city, Stanley. She was working w the bilingual apps...
cyberian - Thanks All !
knightmom - So Stan. Going to the conference or are youy working AGAIN?
Millie - Good night, all! Pleasure chatting with you.
athena !! - shirley...what is the site again?
NSTA Shirley - Deberie was our Assoc Supt
Magoo - Cheryl R, my family came from southern part of the state, Warrick Cnty, and up near Lafayette (go Boilermakers!).
NSTA Shirley - Night Millie
knightmom - Did everyone have off for MLK b-day? Our schools were open but banks and P.O. were closed. I did not get called![]()
Stanley - Shirley, you taught her a lot?
laurap - i should mosey along myself: it is semester exam, and my students (LD) will be keeping me busy reading tests, modifying, etc... it will be a busy week..... fortunately it's a four day week followed by a three day weekend and ANOTHER four day week.....
Stanley - Shirley, so she went from Fresno to San Diego?
knightmom - We have HS finals for 3 days and then record day fri. so that's why there was school I suppose.
NSTA Shirley - Yes, we taught her to like unions
Magoo - Schools out here, gov't offices closed. Nobody here understands WHY, as the civil rights movement did not touch them at all..........hard to explain it to them.
Cheryl R - I have no clue whatsoever as to where Andeson is located. my niece plays basketball and i've never met her or her brother. Usually go and visit her grandparents in CA.
Stanley - k.mom, I don't take off for nuttin'! {G}
Cheryl R - No school here today. Forgot it was a holiday and checked my mail.
Stanley - Quique, Huezo did my brief interview last May when all the Subs could resubmit their apps.
Magoo - Cheryl, Indiana basketball, especially high school level, is THE BEST in the world!! When we got our VCR, "Hoosiers" was almost the first video we got.
athena !! - i need to go. nice meeting all of you. SUBS RULE !!!!!!
knightmom - Come on STan.. if I go to FL will you go? It's on a wekk-end.. noschool.. promise to bring you back in time for classes on Monday!
NSTA Shirley - Yes all schools out today
Quique - I spoke w her a couple times in the summer and fall
Stanley - Shirley, You did your "job" well! We're QUITE happy to have her here!!![]()
Cheryl R - Well she's only 14. If Hoosiers was not the first moviee yuo got for your VCR, what was it?
knightmom - Magoo..are you planning on going to the conf? You would be great there. Could be one of the feratured speakers on a sub's life!
Magoo - Anybody working this week? I'm in a 3rd grade tomorrow (not The Third Grade, that's getting the sub, but the other one), and in my fav. 4th grade on Friday.
Quique - I called back every other week
Quique - I get my favorite 6th graders tomorrow!
NSTA Shirley - Yes.. Deberie respects subs more now
knightmom - No call yet..have to get off the puter soon so I can get a call.
ralmap - I have nothing set up..will have to wait for 6am call.
Cheryl R - I'll find out tomorrow if I'm subbing though all the College childrn are home with their teacher parents and are being dragged in to sub (by parents)
Magoo - knightmom, OOOOO, puff my ego some more!! I can't afford to go to Fla. for anything at all, but would sure love to be there. I will be there in spirit.
knightmom - Magoo, I will drive us there. We can be the Thelma and Louise on the road to Orlando!
Stanley - Quique, I wish I knew SPECIFICALLY of someplace in San Diego begging for biliterate, as they now call it. I'd be SHOCKED if there weren't any... BTW, do you have a Masters or other "expensive" post-grad units?
NSTA Shirley - Yes., Magoo we love you
ralmap - My husband is flying into Tampa Feb 8-12, but he's not a teacher.
Magoo - Cheryl R., the first videos we got were: It's a Wonderful Life, Alice in Wonderland, Hoosiers, Harvey, Auntie Mame, and Shane.
Quique - Yeah, got my masters last yr in "cross cultural"
athena !! - knight......where are you and how are you getting to the conf?
Magoo - knightmom, SCAREY THOUGHT!!! I refuse to go off a cliff, tho.
knightmom - I am in Wisc, (Milw) and thinking of driving there. I love driving!
athena !! - and yes, i'm workign 3 of the 4 days this week
Quique - But ive been entrenched in Poway, Encinitas and a couple others, so I hope something comes thru
Cheryl R - Magoo, all very good choices.
knightmom - No cliffs, Magoo, just a lot of laughs along the way!
athena !! - oh, knight, not my area
Stanley - Shirley, last spring 3 female subs I know, ages 47, 49, & 57 were all given contracts for this yr. Stuff like that has NEVER happened previously here!
knightmom - Where are you athena!!?
Quique - not very bilingual ther however
athena !! - NY
Magoo - I am flying to Oregon the first week of April (Sp. Brk) to visit my best pal and sis-in-law, Judy. Then am SERIOUSLY thinking of flying to St. Louis for 40th (!!) high school reunion in June, so going to Fla. is just not possible.
Stanley - Quique, Poway has no bilingual, so aren't you wasting your advantage there?
knightmom - Get as far as Wash. D.C. bytrain and I will drive rest of way!
NSTA Shirley - Incredible!!!!
Quique - Stanley, do you have your BCLAD?
athena !! - i love driving too. i'd drive to DC...10 hours for me
NSTA Shirley - NY? Where?
knightmom - BUmmer!![]()
athena !! - upstate......near lake placid
knightmom - Be about 24 hours from here total. Air in van works too I think!
Cheryl R - *doing the Barry Manilow cd - helped last week*
Stanley - CLAD only, Quique. I *NEVER* have a BT complain of my Spanish, however. And you?
Quique - Stanley, I had such an extreme experience in chula that I need to get a little closer to home and find a positive schl environment w/ support for a 2nd yr tchr
athena !! - 24 hours to orlando for me too
Magoo - knightmom, I can't do 'marathon' riding anymore. My rear gets tired, my back cramps up, my feet go to sleep...I hafta get out and stretch, etc. every 1- 1 1/2 hrs. drives my dear hubby nuts. If it isn't for stretching, it;'s for potty breaks!!![]()
knightmom - Anyway, I'm thinking about going just cause I never go ANYWHERE! I need a vacation!
athena !! - magoo.....you must be great to travel with![]()
Quique - although i do have my BCLAD, see the irony?!
NSTA Shirley - I heard about Chula Vista--some problems there
athena !! - magoo...where are you?
Stanley - I'm sorry about Chula, Quique. I've a couple of subbing friends who were NOT happy there either.
Cheryl R - What is a BCLAD?
athena !! - knight....did you say you are retired?
Quique - SO much of my time was just discipline, discipline and crisis mgmt
Magoo - Cheryl R., BARRY MANILOW????? Are you a fan, also??? I got to see his Copacabana concert in Spokane in '85 I think it was---middle of the 10th row from the stage, oh, be still my throbbing heart!!
NSTA Shirley - Knight--There are some VERY cheap flights to Orlando
knightmom - By the way, Magoo, good luck with your situation. Hope the teachers stand up for you and it gets resolved in your favor eventually.
Quique - BCLAD is the Bilingual credential in California
ralmap - Cheryl, I was gonna ask the same question!![]()
NSTA Shirley - Know three Chula Vista subs--all left
Quique - they probably subbed at my school!!!
Magoo - athena!!, I am in SE Washington state, little place called Clarkston.....right across the river is Lewiston, Idaho.....guess who stopped here on their way to the Pacific Ocean???
knightmom - No not retired, I am 49 and still working. I will check the flights to Orlando. I will start saving now for air fare since no one will drive with me.
Stanley - Cheryl, BCLAD = Bilingual Crosscultural Lang & Academic Development. Almost invariably the "B" means Spanish.
NSTA Shirley - Know that Werblin fellow
Quique - Cheryl-whats happening w/ MCAS in Mass.? I hear Ron Unz is headed that way to spew more blah blah blah!
Cheryl R - Friday night I was in another room and we were partying to music piped in by Sierra. She got me to get out my Barry Cds. Very theraputic. My brothers used to tease me about Barry. Never seen him in concert. Want to someday.![]()
NSTA Shirley - Knioght--go to NSTA website and see links to cheap flights
Quique - thank you Stanley for the specific translation there
Magoo - knightmom, you know, I'm not so much bummed that I didn't GET the job, as I am that I wasn't ASKED. It is interesting to see the politics, etc. (which I hate), but I have friends I didn't know I had.
knightmom - Ooooo, thanks SHirley! didn't know you had that service!
ralmap - I love Sierra!
knightmom - I will definitely send in my $10.00 joining fee this week now!
Cheryl R - Not too sure about the MCAS mess out here. They are now going to be testing in 5th and 6th grade too. posibly 3rd? Can't remember. Makes me want to do Private Parochial schools even more.
Stanley - Quique, You've **GOT** to check out South Bay! Because of the way their district is "formatted" they probably have THE greatest overall % need for BTs in the County. I go there in a heartbeat if I packed a BCLAD!!
knightmom - Anyone hear about the major testing kids have to do to graduate? Is that for nationwide or just here in Wisc?
Quique - Whats your favorite schl there?
Magoo - Cheryl R., it was just wonderful---no 'mouth', nothing gross, just his music. I do advise, tho, if ever you can go to a concert of his, stuff cotton in your ears. You can still hear just fine, and your head won't be going 'wang, wang, wang' the next day.
Quique - It's about a 40 minute drive from my house to South bay, the draw back
Cheryl R - I'll try to remember that. Wanted to go to recent Bare Naked Ladies concert over New Years (two shows). Asked the wrong brother for tix. Oh well.
NSTA Shirley - We have it in CA--
Stanley - Quique, That's one of their selling points -- I find VERY little difference between schools, there. I tend to work a lot @ Pence & Nicoloff, but I've friends all over.
Quique - Stanley, We ought to get 2gether for a beverage after school some day
knightmom - My son (15yrs) will be the first clas that has to take the for real test to graduate HS. ALready doing some pretesting in some schools here.
Magoo - Stanley, what in the world is a BCLAD??? Big Cow Licking A Duck??? Brave Cowboy Lassoing A Dinosaur???
Cheryl R - *Bandstand Boogie*
Cheryl R - Magoo, you are a hoot!!!!![]()
NSTA Shirley - My son, too 15
knightmom - Magoo, you are incorrigible, and I love it!
Magoo - Hoot! Hoot! Hoot! 'Owl' bet you didn't think I could do that!
Stanley - I hear ya' 'bout the drive, Quique. But the District JUST might be worth it!
knightmom - SHirley, are they a weird bunch those 15yr olds or what?
NSTA Shirley - Yes--Very Squirrly
Magoo - Oh, Lordy, give me a Zoloft and some chocolate and there's no stopping me!!![]()
knightmom - Mine has a 4.0 GPA and worries about grades constantly ! No pressure from me it's just built in, I guess!
Stanley - k.mom, were YOU departing? [Sooooo many conversations here tonight...]
NSTA Shirley - Night--I'm still here, I think
knightmom - Remeber, Magoo, in this room we share!
Cheryl R - Magoo, just figured your message out.. OOOOOOOOOOOOh. you are just like my dad.
Magoo - Stanley, c'mon, I'm growing older by the minute here, what do all those letters stand for?? Or stand five, actually, if I counted correctly................
NSTA Shirley - Zoloft and Chocolate sounds like an Oscar award winning movie
knightmom - I thought Shirley was going, I'm sorry. I shoudl go too so I can recieve a call ??? but I'll hang for a while!
knightmom - Wellbutrin works well for me on most days. Need a refill tho.
Stanley - Quique, next Sat AM in the SDEA Bldg in Mission Valley the County's Visiting Ts' Assn will be having its monthly meeting. I'm the Sec.; You ought to try to attend!
Magoo - knightmom, ain't NOBODY getting any Mighty Z from me!!! I made brownies tonight, new recipe, the big box of Ghirideli (sp??) from CostCo, and they are just YUMMERS.
Cheryl R - Quest. Is it normal to want to call Dad, not be able to hear his voice in my heead, miss him so much that my heart truly aches *Weekend in NE*? Will I ever be "normal" again. That is if I ever was before...
Quique - what time do you start at? I'm not naturally a morning person, only when i teach!!
knightmom - BROWNIES> TOO? Oh, drat. Enjoy, Magoo!
Magoo - Shirley, Zoloft and Chocolate go well together.....especially with a cold glass of moo juice.
knightmom - Hi Bluette, knightmom (barb W.) here! You are late!
Stanley - Quique, Got the addy. I'll be SURE to know if we get Dr. Gomez scheduled, as I'm hoping!
knightmom - Lactose intolerant, Magoo! remember?
Cheryl R - Thought someone was bringing Snickerdoodles? I have Tootsie Rolls but i'm not sharing.
bluette - sorry, just got home from work at my second job
Quique - you'll let me know via email, hopefully
knightmom - Tootsie rolls i ahve too but they are for kids in class.
knightmom - That's right, bluette, welcome anyway!
bluette - have to eat some dinner even though it is 10:30 ish
Magoo - Cheryl R., bless you heart, I'll get serious here (yes, it's possible). YES, your feelings are totally normal! My Mom died 4 yrs. ago this June, and just the other day I thought, Oh, I think I'll give Mom a call.....then remembered. I still find myself wanting to write to her, call her, etc. I can't remember her voice! Things will remind me of her at the darndest moments! The other day I had to pull over, off the road, because the radio was playing an old song she used to sing around the house and I started bawling.
Cheryl R - *getting emotional - All the Time by Barry*
Quique - Gotta go amigos, Ive got 2 boys to take care of here and tomorrow starts early!
Quique - When is "Guest Teacher aprreciation day?"
knightmom - I will have to go soon, but want to check with bluette first. How is it going with you?
Stanley - Quique, Enjoyed it! We'll be in touch!! ¡Adiós!
bluette - hoping to get a teaching assignment Tues., I miss the kids when we have 3 days off
Magoo - knightmom, I forgot about you and moo....how are you with goats milk??
Cheryl R - Thanks Magoo! My brother told me to call anytime, but I don't want to bother him. He has his own life to contend with. Plus he has a lot to do with my Dad's estate.
bluette - had 3 diff assigns in 2 districts last week
Quique - How do make the accent mark-you have a Mac or PC?
knightmom -:-( :-( goats milk
NSTA Shirley - Night everyone..
Quique - Buenos noches
knightmom - Sounds like you are somewhat busy, blu.. I had 5 for 5 last week but 2 were 1/2 days. Haven't been called yet for this week. If I get off the pouter maybe they will call me?
Cheryl R - Night Shirley.
Cheryl R - Night Night
Stanley - Going, going...
