Magoo - Ho, Angel.....you and me, kid! How you doin'?
Angel - hello
Angel - how are youu?
Angel - boy this is slow
Angel - i'm good
Magoo - Doin' better, doin' better. Doc has me on horse pills and a whoosher for the pneumonia....I feel okay, just don't have any energy or breath....Breathing is essential, you know............
Magoo - Yeah, my machine is slow today also..........
Magoo - So, where are you, and what do you sub? I don't remember.
Angel - last i checked, I'd say breathing is essential
Angel - this is my first time on here
Magoo - AHA, a Newbie!!! Hey, this place is really great. VERY safe, monitored, etc.
Angel - i came on here actually, to find out how exactly I go about getting a certificate to sub.
Magoo - I live in Washington state, and I sub K-6.
Magoo - Where do you live?
Angel - nice
Angel - NJ here...going alternate route to teach art
Angel - graduating this may
Magoo - oh, you lucky!! I originally wanted to be an elem. art teacher, but that's an extinct species these days in most places.
Angel - i knowbut I may have something set up...we'll see
Magoo - I dunno about New Jersey's rules and regs. In Washington, you have to have a teaching degree, pass a background check, and be fingerprinted before you can sub.
Angel - nice district...REALLY good art program at the middle school
Angel - wow....yeah i don't think it's that strict...should really be though
Angel - boy this is driving me crazy-sooo slow
Angel - i think here you only need to have 60 college credits
Magoo - Middle school??? You are brave!!!
Bluette - hello all you nice people and my special friend Magoo
Angel - lol
MI/Jo - Hi all!
Angel - hello
Magoo - Well, where were you guys, huh???
Miles - Hi there!
MI/Jo - Is there a specific topic tonight?
Bluette - trying to get organized, should I go to grad school for Masters and cert or let it be the way it is, I sub almost every day Sept-June
MI/Jo - Magoo, I went to weight lifting and kick boxing before coming here
Bluette - aren't you the Huffer and Puffer,, Magoo alias Eloise?
Magoo - Would you all excuse me for a moment?? I am going to go find a big stick to whack this machine with, it is so slow!!!
Angel - magoo-your mr. popular huh?
Angel -
Magoo - MI/Jo, you braggin' or complainin'
MI/Jo - Bluette, go to grad school! I did and don't regret it. Lots of work though.
Magoo - Angel, I'm a she.........the "Magoo" is because I am so nearsighted..........
MI/Jo - Just statin' a fact.
Angel - ohhhh i see...i sorry
Angel - i actually have a friend at school (no joke) that's nicknamed magoo also
Magoo - Every time I haul my bod out of a chair I am weight-lifting.....
Angel - he's a guy
Magoo - Angel, I got labeled with 'Magoo' about 40 years ago in high school
MI/Jo - Yeah, me too. That is why the classes and weight watchers meetings. I just watch the weigth there lol
Bluette - yes MI/Jo but I am aging rapidly and will have only 10 years of teaching if lucky enuf to get a job
Magoo - I have also done lots of kick-boxing.....trying to weave my way thru the debris in the basement..........
Angel - wow that smiley is evil looking....
MI/Jo - My husband is a "Magoo" That why I married him!
Angel - ahhhh
MI/Jo - Bluette, I see your point. How old will you be in 10 years if you don't go?
Magoo - Bluette, there is definitely age descrimination about teachers...don't wait too long......
Miles - Bluette, you may want to hold off on grad school until you have some teaching experience. It's all philosophy, no practicum.
Angel - i studied karate for 10 years...if you want to borrow my bo (big stick) for your computer magoo, you just let me know
MI/Jo - I have a very well packed basement and garage...Mom's stuff
Magoo - I have to sub another 6 years beyond this one to get Medicare.........that would make a total of 14 years as a sub. I waited too long to go for my own room.
MI/Jo - Magoo...there is also "lookism" If you aren't young and firm...
Angel - hold on i have a call.....
MI/Jo - Noooo! not 14 years of subbing. That would qualify a person to sainted and a pope!
Magoo - MI/Jo, don't I know it!!! I am the most lumpy, comfy sub in the district. Kids love to hug me!!
Bluette - I will still be old but ...you know I am concerned that i will put out the effort and it won't work out, I will just be in debt for educ.
Magoo - I can't be a saint, I'm sort of a Presbyterian...sort of a Methodist...
MI/Jo - yeah! that makes two of. "Cept I have 3 kids headed for college. I have to have hope and $ soon.
Magoo - Okay, Blue, 'fess up..........how old are you now??
MI/Jo - Bluette, I understand and agree. Thats why I have .5 of a masters
Bluette - Aug 24, 1946, I say I am 50 plus
Magoo - Bluette.....how long would it take to get the Masters, and would it increase your SUB pay any???
Miles - Bluette, you're not alone.
Magoo - ***muttering to self, 'Bluette is just a kid!'***
MI/Jo - Magoo, I can saint you and make you Pope. I was raised Lutheran by a Cathloic and a Jew. You figure it out.
MI/Jo - Ok Magoo, I am 44, 45 in August. What does that make me?
Magoo - I was 48 when I went back to college.....30 years between my soph and jr years!! Grad at 51, been subbing ever since. My district won't hire oldsters, so I don't bother with interviews anymore.
MI/Jo - Bluette, Can you teach in a private school?
Bluette - I need some security and sure can't get it subbing
MI/Jo - I was thinking if the private/procharical(sp) would hire you, it might be worth it.?
Magoo - MI/Jo, I had a friend in school whose Mom was Catholic, Dad was Jewish, they had 5 kids and raised them all Presb.
Angel - ok i am back
MI/Jo - Whoo! I am not weird after all
Magoo - Mi/Jo, good idea, I hadn't thought of private school...........they aren't so picky about age??
MI/Jo - Nah! In fact got a call from the local Catholics wanting to know if I am avail. for next fall...Oh Yeah! I am.
Bluette - all private schools here are Christian or Catholic, except one where my son went, non-sect. very liberal, not sure I could stomach any of these 3 alternatives
Magoo - WB, Angel.........***Angel is the kid in here just now***
MI/Jo - I am willing to try and earn the expereience and $
Magoo - I am too ornery for a religious school.........
Angel - so is there anyone here from NJ that knows how to go about getting a sub. license
Bluette - me too Magoo
MI/Jo - I know about NJ, except that lots of people live there.
MI/Jo - Have you logged on to the state ed. dept. web site?
Bluette - being a "real T" is a lot of work, grades, meetings, extra curr. if MS or HS
Miles - Angel, just call the state department of education. They'll tell you the steps.
Angel - yes i am
Gemini - Hi everyone
MI/Jo - Yep, I want to experience it for myself. Long-terms have confirmed this is for me.
MI/Jo - Hi Gemini!
Bluette - I can't do long term w/o cert
MI/Jo - Stanley!
1-I'd-Bubba - Hola, Stanley aquí!
Magoo - Hi, Gemini...are there 2 of you??
MI/Jo - OOO that is like Michigan's rules
Angel - wow this chatroom is soooo slow...i type a message and it comes up 2 min. later after the fact!
Miles - Bluette, in Maryland you can.
MI/Jo - How are you Stanley? Doin' alright?
1-I'd-Bubba - Magoo, HOW are ya' feelin', anyhow?
Angel - i've going on the state ed. dept web site MI/Jo-but actually haven't gone to look for that-more trying to find out everything about alternate route teaching
MI/Jo - Magoo, do you still have P'monia?
Magoo - YO, ((( STANLEY ))) !!!
MI/Jo - Don't know about the alternate route stuff...
1-I'd-Bubba - MI/Jo, JUST fine -- just returned from a swim. Et tu??
Bluette - hello, Stanley
Gemini - Yep, I am a twin!
MI/Jo - Kick boxing and weight lifting! Yeah
MI/Jo - Gemini, did you ever try to switch ids
1-I'd-Bubba - Blue, GOOD to see YOU, too!!
Gemini - what was all that about districts not hiring older teachers?
Angel - it's tough...you teach during the day...then go to classes right after-teacher ed. programs
Gemini - We only tried over the phone.
Bluette - husband is Gemini, think he has a split personality
Magoo - Angel, I'm having speed problems tonight also..........***whacking machine with large stick***
MI/Jo - If you ain't young and cute...forget it here
Angel - and where i live, the place that offers the teacher ed. programs is 30 min from my house
Gemini - I not only am a twin but am a Gemini as well
Magoo - Yes, I still have pneumonia.........am still on horse pills and a whoosher..........
1-I'd-Bubba - Gemini, what do you want to know about oldsters being circumvented?
MI/Jo - Have you looked for on line teacher ed classes?
Angel - my fiance is a gemini too
MI/Jo - Yeps! Magoo! You have had that stuff for what 3 months now?
Gemini - Well, since I am 41 and still working on my degree, I am a little concerned
MI/Jo - Angel, do you feel as if there a lot of doubling up in your family with all of those geminis?
Bluette - Gemini, you are 15 years younger than me, so go for it
Magoo - MI/Jo, yeah, since about the first of November. Not coughing as much now, tho. Just NO energy and have to keep reminding myself to breathe............
Gemini - I am so tired of people asking me when I'll be done!
Gemini - Thanks Bluette
Angel - can't seem to find anything only ....
Bluette - keep asking me when I am starting?
1-I'd-Bubba - Where are ya' located, Gem? Plus, do you have any of the "specialties" such as SPED, Bilingual, or Math/Science?
MI/Jo - Gemine, go for the degree, you will find a use for all that knowledge.
MI/Jo - If you can go for sped. certification. that will get you worshiped
Gemini - I'm in Michigan, Language arts and Math, hopefully a coaching endorsement
MI/Jo - Gemini, where are you in Michigan?
Magoo - Gemini, you are just a kid, dearheart!! I got my teaching degree at age 51 !!!
Gemini - Well, i'd like to be worshipped MI/Jo but I don't think I could do that day in and day out.
MI/Jo - Coaching will get you worshipped here!
MI/Jo - (((laurap)))long time no see
Magoo - "Oh, I wish I was in Michigan....down on the farm..."
Gemini - The rate I'm going Magoo, I'll be 51 before i'm done
1-I'd-Bubba - So you're HS &/or MS? Here in San Diego Math would robably get you in!
Bluette - Magoo, did you do student teaching
Gemini - Where are you Mi/JO, I could stand to be worshipped for coaching
Magoo - ((((((((((((((laurap)))))))))))))))) !!!
laurap - hi guys... been having trouble with computer all day and just as things are back to normal i remembered tonight is meeting night... thought i'd see if anyone was still here!
Gemini - I'm Elem/MS
Bluette - Stanley, do you have a masters
MI/Jo - ahhh, I asked first, but SE corner between toledo, ann arbor
1-I'd-Bubba - Uh, Gem, that was SUPPOSED to read, "Probably," but I guess HTML doesn't work in this thing! |-o
Gemini - I have family in that area. I am northern, attending Central in Mt Pleasant Live by Big Rapids
Magoo - Blue, yes, I did 3 practicums, then 8 weeks of ST in a 4-5, and 8 weeks in a 2nd.
Gemini - I was wondering, bubba
Bluette - don't think I can support myself and still do all that
Bluette - maybe take some courses in summer?
1-I'd-Bubba - Blue, I've got about 70 post grad units but no MA/MS.
MI/Jo - Gemini, You are a spring chicken, compared to me. You will get a job.
1-I'd-Bubba - HI, wease! Gem, what were you wondering?
MI/Jo - Bubba, you mean abd? why not the thesis?
Gemini - Yeah, I heard teachers have good retirement and I'll be eligible by the time I graduate!!
Magoo - THIS MACHINE IS DRIVING ME NUTS IT IS SO SLOW
Gemini - I was wondering about your particular spelling of probably
laurap - Gem, i will be almost 50 when i finish my masters.... never too late, i truly believe
1-I'd-Bubba - ALL my post-grad units were either T.Ed or to qualify for it. I've never been involved in a Masters program.
Gemini - Thanks Laurap, I believe that too. I'll have alot of good years to teach.
MI/Jo - Magoo, don't you have a "mean teahcer" look that could inspire the darn thing?!
Angel - so what's all this talk about younger people getting teaching jobs....
laurap - and i just got hired for my first teaching job a couple months short of 47th birthday
Bluette - I asked a question on sub board about teaching Native Amer. students
Angel - i didn't major in education in college
Magoo - MI/Jo, yep, I do have The Look, as my own kids labeled it, but it doesn't work on junk.
Gemini - Well, I am at the computer lab on campus and it will be closing soon. I Have really enjoyed talking to you all. You have lifted by spirits?
Angel - i'm an art major
laurap - i definitely qualify as one of Sr. M's old dinosaurs!!
Gemini - Do you meet at a special day?
MI/Jo - Has anyone here started the annual, letter/resume mailings?
Gemini - t join the teachers ring
Magoo - and this machine is junk.
1-I'd-Bubba - (((( laurap )))) Ol' 1-Eye here didn't, uhm, "see" you arrive!
laurap - hi miss BTL... i was tickled to find out just this week what your handle stands for...
Bluette - those students are a challenge to me
laurap - geez, stan, i been here a hour now!!!!....
laurap - just kidding, of course... how are ya?
Angel - i don't know about some of the 'behind the scene" stuff going on with teachers...
Miss BTL - Hi laurap, good to see you
Gemini - good night all
Magoo - I have a real question..... do any of you get upset when you're in a job for, say, longer than a week, and there are NO plans? I mean when the teacher knew they were going to be gone, not an emergency.
Bluette - g'night Gem
Angel - good nite gemini
MI/Jo - Good night Gem, write soon!
Miss BTL - "behind the scene" stuff? angel?
Bluette - I haven't been in a class for more than 4 days in a row, always with plans
MI/Jo - Yes! me. I let the office know about it, then write my own, and turn a copy in to the P.
1-I'd-Bubba - laurap, please excuse -- i've been embibing some potionteacher elixir!
laurap - magoo, every long term i ever had, from 3 to 6 or more weeks, the teacher said, have them read "whatever" (examples: Old Man and the Sea, The Human Comedy, Flowers for Algernon, etc.... and that was it as far as plans!
Miss BTL - Yes, Magoo....that one makes me shake my head
Magoo - I have always thought Miss BTL was Miss Bacon, Tomato and Lettuce???
MI/Jo - Bubba! I am warning you... stay away form the foks who get your goat. Not good for your blood pressure.
Miss BTL - Magoo....the ones that bother me though, are the half days where the teacher has an am meeting and figures they can just TELL you everything 5 minutes before class starts.
Angel - yeah...i mean...what's this talk about younger teachers getting jobs over other teachers who have more experience? and what are these packages i hear about teachers getting to retire early?
laurap - i would think, though, for a one week assignment, and especially in elem, you should get some basic plans....
Magoo - I had a 5-week job last spring, at the end of the year....NO plans, and the T knew for months ahead that he would be gone at that time. I was furious.
MI/Jo - Magoo, that is called a lazy teacher!
MI/Jo - Bye, Miles
laurap - in my district a couple years back, they did offer an early retirement incentive, allowing higher paid older ts to retire, replaced by us newbies, who are much cheaper....
MI/Jo - Hi Su
Miss BTL - I would have loved that, magoo....such freedom to teach what you want,....but very unprof on the T's part
Magoo - I have had that happen to me 4-5 times over the years. I don't mind doing plans, but I very much mind getting SUB pay for doing them, when a teacher gets TEACHER pay for doing them.
su - hi, this web like german to me
Bluette - cheap districts keep making the same stupid mistakes, hiring those with no experience like me
MI/Jo - Nah! I can understand some German...this does not sound like it.
Miss BTL - Agree.....magoo....and with the end of the year hassles like report cards too!!
Magoo - Miss BTL, not all that much freedon, either....had to stick to curric, and what same-grade teachers were doing, AND, I HAD TO DO THE GRADES !!!
Angel - so do people (districts) look down at alternate route teachers?
Miss BTL - LOL magoo...like minds....I did an end of the year last year for 3 weeks
MI/Jo - Why does this cound like german to you?
Magoo - su, this izzn't German..........it's barely English!!
Bluette - just kidding, they won't hire me as a perm even a long term
Magoo - If that ever happens to me again, I am going to go to the P and offer to do plans, but on the condition that I get paid more. If they say no, I will say, okay, find another fool.
MI/Jo - Yeah! Magoo! way to go!
Bluette - I know T's can negotiate long term, why can't subs
MI/Jo - Blue, can non-certified subs in your area do long-terms
Miss BTL - with you on that Magoo....after I accepted the job, I was chatting with another sub (terrific retired teacher fellow) and he said...I wonder who fell for taking ms P's long term! oops
1-I'd-Bubba - German? GERMAN?? My surname is German to the nth degree! If I write it on the board it **DESTROYS** the day's phonics! :-[
Bluette - don;t think so MI/Jo
MI/Jo - come on Bubba, It can't be that bad! Try Frautchinowski!
Magoo - subs don't get NO respect.or retirement, or insurance.
Angel - listen i must go now....i get up at 5 for my part time job-thank god i go back to school this sunday because i hate this job
Miss BTL - so....um...I'm sure this topic has come up...but,Stanley...you gonna lay off Sr. Marcos or what? He's already cracked, you know.
Bluette - give it to us Bubba...
laurap - Well, my dears, i am at the end of a lovely four day weekend... grades due tomorrow, lots of stuff to get ready for the a.m., so i had better say good night.... lovely to see you all.... got your email, stanley.... always wonderful to hear from you... HAVE A LOVELY NIGHT, EVERYONE....
MI/Jo - In Michigan 5% of pay goes to retirement. Thats all the bennies here
Miss BTL - aw....laurap....sorry to see you go
Angel - you too laurap-goodnite
MI/Jo - bye Laurap
Angel - so goodnite everyone-thanks for your help
SJF - MI/Jo...where in Mi? I'm from Flint area...brand new sub.
1-I'd-Bubba - MI/Jo, Fraut...? Is that YOU??? [Now, if it had started off Kraut... I might have understood it better!]
Angel - magoo, nice meeting you
laurap - nitey nite, don't let the bedbugs bite, as my momma used to say....
MI/Jo - Sjf, SE corner btwn A2 and toledo. Bubba, its german!
Miss BTL - welcome to the world of subbing, sjf
MI/Jo - Babba, maiden name....
SJF - not too far....and thanks..I think!!!!
Magoo - "Frautchinowski"??? ...good Irish name...
MI/Jo - magoo, lol!
Miss BTL - 7pm here in washington state, usa
1-I'd-Bubba - OK, MI/Jo -- Care to try to pronounce "Hoersch?"
MI/Jo - Yep! Bet i can!
MI/Jo - It is Herrsk!
Magoo - HEY, Miss BTL, where in Washington??? I'm in the ugly part, near Idaho.
1-I'd-Bubba - MI/Jo, NOPE, try again...
Cindee - in WA here
Magoo - Stanley..."horsch" ???
Miss BTL - semi-ugly...on the columbia
MI/Jo - OOOO! Horrshk
Miss BTL - hiya, cindee
Magoo - Cindee, where in Washington???
Miss BTL - gosh....I feel like singing "washington my home"
Cindee - miss btl....I'm in WA too
Magoo - "on the Columbia..." yep, that's ugly!
MI/Jo - Okay, bubba can you do my name?
su - He's right about you all.... very nice
Cindee - I'm in Yakima
MI/Jo - SJF wher are you in Michigan?
Bluette - My last name is smith but first name is difficult
Cindee - I'm in Yakima
SJF - Mt. Morris...just N. of Flint
MI/Jo - Cool! same side of the state!
Magoo - YAKIMA ??!!?? I have a dear, dear friend who lives there. You guys have got one really swell little theater group over there!!! I got to see "Big River about 6 years ago and it was fantastic!!
1-I'd-Bubba - MI/Jo, No I can't -- I'd cheat by saying "F," like I do with mine. But it's really easy: /Hirsch/ or /Hersch/ -- not sure of that linguistics stuff!
MI/Jo - Okay, blue can you do Lorrenzea?
Miss BTL - A to MI/jo for geography
Cindee - They keep us busy here too
MI/Jo - Bubba Say Frau-chin-now-ski!
Bluette - sometimes I let kids do a hangman/type game, guessing
MI/Jo - Gotta go, later guys it has been fun!
SJF - Yup! I travel by AA often...on way to Cincinnatti to see new grandson.
Miss BTL - I'll bet....Are you bilingual, Cindee?
Cindee - bye MI
Cindee - No, not bilingual
Miss BTL - tah, MI/Jo....enjoy reading your posts, BTW...nice to "see" you
SJF - bye MI/Jo
Magoo - I have kids do a math problem when they want to know how old I am.........2002 takeaway 1943............then they gasp in horror and holler, "YOU ARE OLDER THAN MY GRANDMA!"
Cindee - dreading the next 3 days.....at the high school
Miss BTL - LOL....lovely way to answer the q, magoo....Any bright ones ask for your birthdate?
Miss BTL - Why, Cindee...were you there last week...was it terrible?
1-I'd-Bubba - Cindee, why the dread? The subj, or just not a HS person?
Bluette - Cindee, what will you teach?
Cindee - not a hs person.
Magoo - Miss BTL, nobody ever asks that.....hee hee hee!
Cindee - gonna be in Lang Arts....only subj I'll take at hs
Magoo - I won't sub over 6th grade, and I will do that only in one school in the district. ***shuddering*** all those unleashed hormones..........
Bluette - doesn't sound bad to me, I love English classes, any type or age
Cindee - lol exactly
Miss BTL - with you there, bluette
Cindee - I love k-8!!
Magoo - ...and the "Fourth Grade Girl Crazies".........that's the one that I have no patience for...........
1-I'd-Bubba - Cindee, I've done very little HS, so it's in no way "natural" for me. However, I can use my humor more there... 8-)
Cindee - just getting back to subbing....ran a preschool for the past 8 years
Bluette - gotta getsome zzz's, g'night evryone
Cindee - nite bluette
Magoo - preschool would drive me over the edge...........I admire you, Cindee!!!
Miss BTL - Oh, then HS will be a bit of a culture shock for you....Don't let 'em see you sweat.
Cindee - LOL
Magoo - NIghty, Blue...........you take care (((HUGS)))
Cindee - preschool was definetly harder than I thought but I got to keep my kids with me.
Miss BTL - Gee, Bubba....I'd have thought somehow from your posts that you did a lot of HS
1-I'd-Bubba - Cindee, I agree with Miss BTL. And that's where the humor comes in! O
Cindee - I think it took me 2-3 years to adjust.
Magoo - I love to sub in 2,3,4.
1-I'd-Bubba - Nope, Miss BTL, I've an elementary credential. And you??
Miss BTL - A two-day stint at a pre-school broke me of ever going back. Those women are saints!
Cindee - magoo....me too they're great.
Magoo - Well, I must go. Pack a lunch, find some clean clothes, dig out a book to read to the kids tomorrow...........4th graders.........they love my 'color' fairy tale books!! The Blue Fairy Tale Book, etc. some are nice and gorey, so the boys listen...........
Cindee - I'm excited when they sit for 15 minutes after doing preschool LOL
Cindee - nite magoo
Miss BTL - Beware of the 4th grade girlies, Magoo.
1-I'd-Bubba - Magoo, you **DO** watch your health, ya' hear?
Magoo - MissBTL, I just tell 'em to go work it out, every female goes thru this, I did, your mothers did, you WILL survive, etc, etc,
Magoo - Thanks, ol' One-Eye, I am doing that. You all take care...hope you all have a good week!!
Miss BTL -It's lovely to hear from a person who is in the right place at the right time.....Magoo....I hope they appreciate you over there in God's country.
Miss BTL -alone at last
1-I'd-Bubba - Miss BTL, where is it you're located, anyway? [I'm in San Diego, at least for another 6 mos or so.]
Miss BTL - Wenatchee, Washington....same side of Cascades with magoo and cindee.
Miss BTL - why another 6 months....you going to run away to alaska and open up a flight school with stinger?
1-I'd-Bubba - FUNNY emoticon! Are you on a Mac or PC? For us Maccers not all the emoticons work! ;-(
Miss BTL - PC....maybe that's why I couldn't do the tilde over the N
1-I'd-Bubba - Ah, stinger... I think he first "surfaced" when I was on a hiatus helping a colleague with her Master's course. He is DEFINITELY interesting!
Miss BTL - Indeed. Some of the board ppl. come with personalities built in....some are totally forgetable.
1-I'd-Bubba - Ah, yes -- the tilde! Did what I say work on a PC? [Probably not...]
Miss BTL - Cindee??? cindee who? But everyone knows Magoo, for example.
Miss BTL - um......what did you say?
Miss BTL - One day, I'll learn all there is to know about this computer. LOL
Miss BTL - welcome dawn
1-I'd-Bubba - I kind of suspect I'll have a contract in L.A. for '02/'03, & there is NO reason to leave here early -- considering I've probably spent over 45 yrs of my life here!:-$
dawn - hi, where's everyone from?
1-I'd-Bubba - San Diego, dawn. And you? Also, do you sub?
Miss BTL - suspect?.....you been applying to L.A. or are you thinking of a change.....or what?....I can't see leaving San Diego for L.A.
dawn - IL, use to teach k, stay at home mom
Miss BTL - Washington State, dawn.....I sub all grades and am quitegood at it.....or at least have been doing it for awhile.
dawn - i plan on teaching preschool in my home
Miss BTL - Ah....so you just logged on and figured Bubba and I were more interesting than the other room...How right you are!
1-I'd-Bubba - I just basically need to photocopy some papers & send them off. It's a $$ thing -- as in about DOUBLE my pay if I'm contracted there. @ close to 55, that's probably NOT something I can overlook...
Miss BTL - Uh oh....now I have to be interesting....drat!
dawn - i'm new on here
Miss BTL - I'm sure you'll succeed in whatever you do....the only question is...will YOU like it?
Miss BTL - I figure it's time for me to quit having so much fun subbing and settle down, too....so next year, I may join your ranks...not in LA, though.
1-I'd-Bubba - Change is ALWAYS risky, Miss BTL. The nice thing about L.A.: You "negotiate" with individual sites, & the Principal decides whether to contract you.
Miss BTL - Negotiate....oh how you tickle me, Bubba
1-I'd-Bubba - What kind of credential do you have, Miss BTL?
Miss BTL - How many li'l ones of your own do you have, dawn?
Miss BTL - In Wash State, you must be certified to be a sub, so most of us have gone through teacher's ed classes. The young 'uns are looking to land the first job...and the old folks are usu retired ....and then there's folks like me....in the middle, you might say.
1-I'd-Bubba - Yes, dawn, sorry to seem like we're ignoring you...
Miss BTL - I'm elem certified with endorsement in Reading.
1-I'd-Bubba - But what TYPE of credential? Also, what "tickled" you about my use of negotiate?
Miss BTL - I taught 5th grade for a year....MY DREAM JOB! ha aha ha ha ha ....oh sorry....ehem...well...let's just say, my illusions about teaching were shattered. It's taken me this long to put the pieces back together so they'll hold water.
1-I'd-Bubba - Well, should moving become "urgent" because of no contracts, you've ENOUGH for L.A.!
Miss BTL - "negotiate"....just brought on a Sr. Marcos moment, 'tis all.
Miss BTL - You mean, they'll take anyone? Even me?
Miss BTL - I think we're boring poor dawn....DAWN! You still with us?
1-I'd-Bubba - L.A. cares NOT a whit about anything that happened > 5 yrs ago. I'm "naturally" more intemediate myself, though I expect to "lobby" HARD for G-3 because it's the oldest grade that still has 20:1 ratios.
Miss BTL - Everyone wants to teach G3 it seems. You don't have to train them (much) in How to School and they still think school is fun....Perfect age.
1-I'd-Bubba - She's gone -- name first popped off the "Send to Room," then off the top!
Miss BTL - You mean big brother is watching us?.....Gee, you'd think he'd get a better hobby.
Miss BTL - oops....meant to pm that....I'd make a terrible spy. LOL
1-I'd-Bubba - Wow... Stromer's use of negotiate... how soon I forget! |-o
Miss BTL - oh....was it stromer?....Yep, the spy gig is definitely out....be shot the first time they asked for the password.
1-I'd-Bubba - Sometime you should check the transcripts! A day or 2 ago I did for 12/01, & it seemed to go on LONGER than the 1 hr schedule!
Miss BTL - I didn't know they saved 'em.
1-I'd-Bubba - It was Stromer using his dry wit contra you know whom. But... password???
Miss BTL - I don't wander around much on here....just check the sub board...then occasionally the admin board (I asked them a question once. Took two weeks for an answer, and then only one...They must not check in as often as we do.) and have clicked on Magoo's article and a few Harry Wong things and that's it.
1-I'd-Bubba - YES... I believe you can access them via the archives!
1-I'd-Bubba - I mean, the THINGS that are available on T.Net! Have you ever checked out the 4 Blocks stuff??
Miss BTL - Yep,.....no memory....would never remember the password....good thing I'm a teacher and can say things like..."What a lovely question. How do you suppose you'd look that up? And What do YOU think the answer is?
Miss BTL - Oh yes....like to stay somewhat current....have read quite a few of those articles.
1-I'd-Bubba - Your humor is captivating! So, WHY did you thing I was a HS Sub?
Miss BTL - Reading is my THING, you know, so I devour everything I can.
Miss BTL - Dunno...probably just tossing you into the ol' stereotype hopper....male teacher who GETS kids....must be a HS guy.
1-I'd-Bubba - The masters course in which I was assisting was about teaching reading. I feel in love with "Classrooms That Work."
1-I'd-Bubba - Also, did you see my post of today about conferencing with readers?
Miss BTL - Catchy title.....trying to place it....uh oh....I'm falling behind the times....Tell me more.
Heidi - Hi. i'm late
Miss BTL - I remember you started a strand, but it didn't seem to lead anywhere.
1-I'd-Bubba - It's one of the MANY books by Pat Cunningham, Richar Allington being her co-author.
Miss BTL - Better late than never, Heidi....You can help us put up the chairs.
1-I'd-Bubba - Greetings, Heidi!
Heidi - HI

Miss BTL - I'm famous! Heidi, meet Stanley, aka Bubba
Heidi - here are you both from i'm from long island, ny
1-I'd-Bubba - Yes, I'm actually Stanley, though this 1-I'd-Bubba handle I sometimes use in honor of a G-6 boy who called me that last yr! [I'm still wearing an eye patch as a result of a detached retina 1 yr ago almost to the day.]

Miss BTL - My mind has gone blank.....Care to spill some brain cells for me Heidi....What's on your mind tonight?
1-I'd-Bubba - Heidi, it's been surgically reattached, though the rest is still in, uh, "negotiation?" [Miss BTL, will you remind me to contact the Stromer/Marcos law firm about that?]
Miss BTL - okay, okay....I'll click on your reading conference post again and see what I can add to it. Nag, nag, nag.
Miss BTL - LOL
Miss BTL - I'm sure you said all there was to say quite well though
1-I'd-Bubba - Don't get on my bad side, BTL! I'm a stalker, ya' know!
Heidi - where do you find the smile faces? i don't see them
Miss BTL - I know. I know. It's just that I could use the company!
Miss BTL - : ) =
Heidi - nothing special on my mind. came to see what was happening
1-I'd-Bubba - Heidi, they're called "emoticons," & Magoo once told me where to find them. I BELIEVE it's the ? button to the left of this pg. [However, if you're on a Mac, not all of them work as listed!]
Miss BTL - More brain cells to steal!!! welcome kiky
Heidi - .............
Miss BTL - Cool, bubba 8) And here I thought that was just an ad.....The S is freeze messages....??? Why would you want to?....Ah well.
1-I'd-Bubba - If you had spelled that "kiki" I was going to ask if you were a recording artist with "Ebsen" for a surname!
Miss BTL - oops....8-)
Miss BTL - sigh....guess I'm not hip enough to wear shades.
1-I'd-Bubba - kiky, that was NOT the "emoticon" I wanted! [Blasted Macs! Or better: BOO to Bill Gates!!]
1-I'd-Bubba - Miss BTL, I like to freeze when I'm composing. Less distracting for us ADD types, ya' know!
Heidi - i don't have a mac. i see the emoticons, but can't use them. : ((
Miss BTL -Try typing that frown without any spacing, Heidi
Heidi - i'm going, too. dishes to wash and things to get done before morning.... good night
Heidi -
Heidi - It worked! Good night
1-I'd-Bubba - Goooooo, Heidi! I downloaded a copy as it's the ONLY way this 54 yr old brain can recall them!
Miss BTL - Night all.
1-I'd-Bubba - !Hasta la vista!
