Beth - have you joined the 4 blocks mailring yet?
jewls - Yes, last evening or least I think I was successful at it
Beth - it is filled with some helpful people. I'm no expert in 4 blocks but like what I do use
jewls - This is the first time I've been in the meeting room, does anyone come in to lead the discussion?
Beth - do you have any experience with 4 blocks jewls
jewls - None, desperately seeking advice
jewls - I purchased a book yesterday called "True Stories from Four Blocks Classrooms"
Beth - jewls, do yo have any of the books...access from your new school...aren't they going to help?
jewls - yes, the school is actually going under construction right now all classroom materials have been moved to the gym its a big mess
Glenda 1st TN - Jewls, I saw that you are new to 4 Blocks, me too. Beth have you been using 4 blocks?
jewls - My principal said I could come in after the 4th of July and get started if I wanted to.
Beth - well, for 2 years BUT I am the only one at my school so I am learning as I go
jewls - I haven't used four blocks before
jewls - What I have read in this book seems to be awesome
Glenda 1st TN - I can identify. I'll be the only teacher at my school too. What grade do you teach? What grade will you be teaching Jewls?
Beth - Is this your first teaching job jewls
Beth - Glenda in teach 1st
Beth - I have learned a great deal from these chats as well as the 4Blocks mailring
jewls - I have taught in Head Start and the GA Pre-K program for the past six years
jewls - Hi carole
Glenda 1st TN - Hi Carole
jewls - I student taught in a K/1 multiage class
Beth - So this well be a new adventure for you jewls.
carole1 - Hi! I raught Head Start and K/1, too.
jewls - Brand New!!!!
jewls - where are u carole
jewls - if u don't mind me asking
carole1 - North Carolina, I taught 3rd this past school year and loved it. Will next year.
lisa/2/nc - Carole....are you in NC?
carole1 - Sorry, Lisa. What part of NC ar you from?
Beth - I'm in FL...so we have a nice little group of primary teachers
lisa/2/nc - I'm going to be teaching 3rd grade next year though
lisa/2/nc - I'm in Winston Salem....home of 4Blocks
jewls - Yes we do, up the east coast here
Beth - NC,,,what a beaytiful state
Glenda 1st TN - Beth, what part of FL?
Beth - Orlando
carole1 - I live in Burlington but teach in Saxapahaw at the Charter school
lisa/2/nc - I'm still getting used to North Carolina
jewls - So my first question to you guys who have experience with 4blocks?
jewls - About how much time is set aside for each block?
lisa/2/nc - Jewls......each block should be about 30-45 minutes....
Glenda 1st TN - Beth, Are you going to the National First grade Conference in July? It is going to be in Orlando. I did everyting I could to go, but it didn't work out this year.
jewls - So where do you get infor on the Conf.
lisa/2/nc - what grade jewls?
Beth - No...I'll be camping in the Smokeys.
jewls - thanks lisa
jewls - Camping in the Smokeys sounds relaxing
Glenda 1st TN - Beth I hope you enjoy your visit.
lisa/2/nc - Jewls....the blocks of time are fairly flexible..whatever suits your needs
Glenda 1st TN - Jewls, were you asking about the first grade conference?
carole1 - We used open court this school year. Anybody use it before?
Beth - jewls a good book to start with is The Teacher's guide to the Four Blocks
jewls - Yes, sounds like fun
REI/2/IL - The National 1st grade conference is sponsored by SDE. Here is the link http://www.iteach1st.com/
Beth - I always fo Glenda. it is a great spot to reflect and get grounded
lisa/2/nc - nope Carole....did you have to stick to the script...or could you be flexible?
jewls - Yes, the school will provide me a copy with that in early July
lisa/2/nc - I am not a fan of Open "cult"
Beth - I bet you will get all kinds of help when the school year gets closer
carole1 - Very flexible. Its better than Saxon that we use to have.
jewls - Yes I have a really good friend I went to High School and College with who also teachers first grade at this school
Beth - Flexibility is the key it all areas of life and teaching
Brad/3 - ah, beth, wisdom from on high
lisa/2/nc - so what do people want to talk about tonight?
jewls - I am verrrryyyyy flexiable, I have taught Head Start for 6 yrs.
carole1 - I'm a very hands on teacher and like to do all sorts of things with my kids.
Brad/3 - he who is flexible may touch toes without groaning
Beth - No Brad...from age
Glenda 1st TN - I've started leveling my books. Do you put all your books out at once, or do you add the baskets of higher books as you see they are ready for them?
Brad/3 - what about conferencing. I'm interested how others do it and some potential converts keep asking me "how it's done"
Brad/3 - I know how I do it, but how do others?
lisa/2/nc - why do you level your books Glenda?
carole1 - Have to go. Somebody is at the door.
Glenda 1st TN - Bye carol, hurry back
lisa/2/nc - in first grade, I'd start with the emergent level books.....until you have kids ready to read higher levels...but they are always great for read-alouds
Glenda 1st TN - Lisa, I'm leveling my books to better help my students find books to read on their own level during SSR. Is this right REI?
lisa/2/nc - Brad.....after four years of using 4Blocks...I still conference "on the run"
lisa/2/nc - but if you teach them how to chose "just right" books
Beth - I also, don't have a good, solid plan for conferencing. I try to set a schedule but that usually doesn't work
jewls - I'm completely new with 4blocks brad, when does the conf. suposed to come in
lisa/2/nc - even first graders are great at chosing books that are at their levels
Brad/3 - beth, I tried setting a schedule this year too, but I'm looking to be a little more flexible (lol Beth) next year. Spend more time with strugglers, etc. . .
Brad/3 - Once you have everyone settled during SSR without behavior issues (long time coming for me), jewls
REI/2/IL - Glenda....I level mine as hard (which are really easy book) harder books and hardest books. I also use the Goldilocks method with my kiddos to show them how to chose the "just right" books for them.
jewls - I just need to know how to get started?
Glenda 1st TN - You've got to remember Lisa, I've not taught using 4 blocks. I've been read 4 blocks t. guide and reading with meaning. I thought I remembered reading to level the books. Am I wrong?
Brad/3 - I actually made a rubric on choosing a book at your level
Brad/3 - nan, where'd you go?
Beth - I hear you loud and clear Brad. I work best when I play it by ear and conference with those that seems to need it most
jewls - That sounds like a great idea
Brad/3 - glenda, not important to level books under 4B, but may help "guide" some who can't determine their own levels
lisa/2/nc - well.....you really don't need to level your books Glenda
jewls - the Rubric
naneb - white screen
Brad/3 - jewls, read the books, join the mailring, post on chatboard, come to these chats.
Glenda 1st TN - REI thanks, Brad, I'm interested in your Rubric.
lisa/2/nc - teaching them how to chose wisely works really well
Brad/3 - that happened to me at the prof book discussion last week
Beth - No, you're not wrong. A lot of teacers prefer to keep their book baskets, buckets, whatever leveled. Some other, prefer to have a healthy mix all in the same baskets. To me it's a matter of preference
naneb - I am thinking of meeting and conferencing with maybe 3 students at a time, more modeling for lower students and maybe I can model good discussion for all of them
Brad/3 - I'm trying to remember my rubric. I just tore it down last week so I can make a new one with next year's class.
lisa/2/nc - I have a Goldilocks chart on my class' website that teaches them how to chose appropriate books
jewls - I would like to see or hear about the Rubric
Brad/3 - Definitely MUCH more modeling and explicit teaching next year for me too Nan
Glenda 1st TN - Lisa, what is your web addresss. I'd like to visit.
lisa/2/nc - http://www.myschoolonline.com/NC/Tiggerkyds
jewls - me too lisa
naneb - this year I had a wild class that took lots of controling, I hope next year i will not have to do that
Brad/3 - I think 4 was "I can pick books on my level easily. Occasionally I read books that are more challenging or easy.
Glenda 1st TN - Got it. Thanks
Brad/3 - 3--" I try to read books always on my level"
lisa/2/nc - the Goldilocks chart and how to chose "just right" books is what I teach the first several weeks of school
Beth - Oh Lisa...I have your site linked on my teacher site page.
Brad/3 - 2--"Mr. Johnson usually has to talk to me to help me make book choices
jewls - What is the Goldilocks chart?
naneb - my biggest SSR problem was getting students to read harder books, my best readers wanted to read the easiest books
Brad/3 - 1--"I am always 'stuck in the library' choosing a book instead of reading"
lisa/2/nc - and many of my parents are able to check and see how to help their children chose appropriately at places like the public library, etc
lisa/2/nc - Jewls....it's on my page that says "Just Right" books
REI/2/IL - My kiddos have Goldilocks chart in their book bag.
Brad/3 - Something like that. Sorry I don't have it in front of me. The rubric also had a component about how you spend your reading time similar to the one in Lucy Calkins "Art of Teaching Reading"
jewls - ok thanks
Glenda 1st TN - I have a Q. that may seem silly. How do you handle the teachers that keep telling you that 4 blocks takes too much time? I've got really good friends that I teach with and one keeps telling me to get a life because I'm working on the 4 blocks this summer. It is beginning to hurt my feeling.
naneb - close the door and do your own thing
lisa/2/nc - Glenda...I would just ignore those "friends"
jewls - so what are u focusing on this summer with 4blocks
Glenda 1st TN - I'm trying Lisa, thanks
Brad/3 - I made my "spending reading time" rubric color-coded, red-yellow-green like stoplight, and on the reading log, they colored in how they thought they were on the rubric and I colored in how I thought their behavior was. Surprisingly, they usually matched. Kids aren't stupid; they know what they should be doing it (they just have a little trouble deciding to do it : )
Diane/1st/NE - Tell your friends that 4 blocks is just best teaching practice. It's NOT a waste of time.
naneb - I had the same thing from other sped teachers but after Christmas she commented on the progress my kids were making and started to do some of the ideas I had given her
lisa/2/nc - but that teacher who has told you to "get a life" may just be feeling jealous of how energized you are feeling about 4Blocks
REI/2/IL - Glenda...know that you are doing what is best for your class. I went through the same thing. Eventually, they all came around to asking me to help them implement.
Alison/4/OH - Brad, the reading log rubric sounds cool...is their an elaboration on it ?
Glenda 1st TN - Well, I'm reading and re reading 4 blocks, mbym phonics, and Reading with Meaning. I'm leveling my books, organizing my letter tiles. etc. I've an orgainization nut.
Brad/3 - Glenda, that's terrible. I was the lone ranger in my school, and I think I've got several converts. I don't think it takes any more time than planning any other lesson. Does anyone else feel it takes more time in the room tonight?
Marcia/1st/GA - Yeah, Nan! It's good to see you.
Beth - Glenda, being the only one at my school, I can relate. It sometimes does get to you. When they see what great progress the kids nake they will come around...hopefully
naneb - at first guided reading lessons took me a long time to plan but it got easier
Marcia/1st/GA - I don't think 4 blocks takes more time. It seems that the friends feel like Glenda shouldn't be spending time planning during the summer. Is that it, Glenda?
lisa/2/nc - it's hard to be the "lone ranger" at a school...but the 4Blocks mailring can definitely become your support system
Brad/3 - Alison, it comes primarily from Lucy Calkins "Art of Teaching Reading" There's something on there about staying in one place during the time, choosing the book on level, no "pretend" reading, "I understand what I read," "I pace myself (no racing through the book)"
Glenda 1st TN - I sure hope so. I have one teacher, she was my co-op teacher when I did my student teaching and I think she may be showing some interest in 4 blocks. My principal is very interested.
byw - I'm enjoying your ideas. I will just be starting 4 blocks in the fall. What grades does everyone teach?
Alison/4/OH - Our students are not heterogenously grouped although we are pretty close. I will have the intervention group next year.....low/mediums.....Is there anyone out there teaching in the same way?
Beth - Getting the admin behind you is always a good thing. Good luck Glenda
Glenda 1st TN - Yes, marci. They feel when school is out I should not be working on school things.
Marcia/1st/GA - Glenda, I ahve been doing 4 blocks all year. I didn't really plan iwth my team b/c our methods were different. However, at the end of the eyar, two of the teachers kept coming to me and asking me how to set up a readers' and writers' workshop. They want to plan with me next year
jewls - so im not the only "new kid on the block" yeah
Brad/3 - is that just because you were making sure they were aligned, nan, because that's what I struggle with in that block occasionally. In fact, I'm looking to tweak this block a little this summer, maybe switching grade levels
lisa/2/nc - Byw.....I am looping for a third year...taking my kiddos into 3rd grade
Brad/3 - marcia, that sounds great. I've had a somewhat similar experience
jewls - 1st
naneb - Glenda, I work on school all year long and I hear the same thing but big deal!! I am a teacher, it's what I am!
Alison/4/OH - BYW, I'm teaching 4th grade....newbie to 4blocks next year....getting very excited!
Brad/3 - me too nan. Cheers!
Brad/3 - (it's in the blood I think)
Beth - Alison...me too. Four Blocks will work for you. How long of a block change do you have? I hope at least 90 min
Glenda 1st TN - Thanks nan and Brad.
REI/2/IL - Glenda, LOL...even before using 4 Blocks, I was always working on school stuff in the summer. That is when I can finally get caught up and get things made for the following year.
Alison/4/OH - I too plan all year...brought a huge box home today...lots of laminating to cute out!
naneb - Brad, this year my biggest problem was findinf the right books and or enough books, that worked out as the year went on and I am better supplied now
Marcia/1st/GA - I know Nan works on school a lot. I do too. We wouldn't be in this chat room right now, would we, if we weren't that type of educators.
jewls - Marcia where are u in GA
Alison/4/OH - Well we'll be homogenous all day long...I'm self-contained so I'm hoping to have 2.5 hours a day...2 hours for 4blocks, and another half hour for intervention groups, small group
Marcia/1st/GA - outside of atlanta
naneb - I just redid my website, www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/gipsy/41
Diane/1st/NE - Be proud you are the kind of teachers who spend the time you do!
jewls - I will be teaching 1st next year in Hall Co.
Brad/3 - I found that you just can't do it in under 2 hours. In fact the district is asking that all teachers spend 2 1/2 hours on literacy this year, and so many teachers are FREAKING OUT, trying to think how they can spend 2 1/2 hours teaching reading, when all this time, I've been hoping they expand from 90 minutes so I can do all 4B (like Nan, I shut the door and used the whole 2 hours to begin with)
Alison/4/OH - We had our last day of Success For All reading today!!!! Boy was I feeling good at 11 am this morning...
Marcia/1st/GA - Jewls, I am not sure where Hall county is
Brad/3 - Marcia, do you also post to MOT ring on yahoo.
byw - Brad, are you talking about 2 hours uninterrupted?
jewls - Gainesville
Brad/3 - I'll be looking at your site, nan. Have you tried reading a-z.com for books?
Alison/4/OH - Is there a Mosaic of Though mail ring?????
Marcia/1st/GA - Brad, yes. I am co-moderator for that group.
lisa/2/nc - well....I'm gonna go....take care everyone...
Beth - so Alsion, your homeroom class is all on the same ability level for reading?
Alison/4/OH - Brad if I remember from the chat last week, are you in Middletown or closeby there?
jewls - Northeast of Atlanta maybe 1 hr 1/2
Brad/3 - The good thing about 4B is you don't HAVE to be uninterrupted (although that would be nice)
Marcia/1st/GA - Yes, there is a MOT group. Right now we are reading and discussing Reading with Meaning, but our discussions about MOT keep popping up.
Alison/4/OH - well, I wouldn't say that ....but they should be within a years ability instead of the 2-3 year span that I had this year being heterogenously grouped.
Brad/3 - I've been reading a lot of your posts lately. I just joined a week ago. I'm going through all the old messages till I get current. Good to "meet" you.
Brad/3 - yes, alison
naneb - I did Brad, I have made copies of all of the books, laminated the color covers too. I used that spiral binding to make the books. my kids loved the nonfiction books
Marcia/1st/GA - What I liked about 4 blocks is that I taught my SSR and Writing Block in the afternoon. My kids were always engaged!
Alison/4/OH - Cool...could you send me the link please?
Marcia/1st/GA - You too. Glad you are with us. Things have been a little slow on that ring. However, you will find the posts are well worth reading. Well at least most of the time.
Brad/3 - I used the spiral binding too. Didn't do color covers though. My kids LOVED the nonfiction too. The basals just don't have enough appropriate (I stress that word) nonfiction.
Alison/4/OH - That's what I'm thinking is to divide up my time......our principal though is into everyone teaching reading at the same time. Our whole building will implement 4 blocks next year.
KBH - Has anyone seen the new writing book that is supposed to be out?
byw - I'm new to all of this and I have to go now, but I will be back to get ideas. Thanks!
Diane/1st/NE - KBH--Just ordered it! Can't wait to get it
Brad/3 - Read somewhere that nonfiction should be 1 1/2-2 years below grade level, because there may be no schema for subject matter, plus the difficulties of navigating expository text.
Glenda 1st TN - Does anyone have any problems working handwriting in to their day in first grade at the beginning of the ;year?
Marcia/1st/GA - I have not seen the new writing book and just ordered 3 new books today. I have got to quit spending money on my books!
Marcia/1st/GA - Bye, Allison
Alison/4/OH - thanks marcia!
Glenda 1st TN - I hear you Marcia.
cin - naneb.....when you talk about making copies of all the books....what are you referring to?
Brad/3 - I got writing book for 2nd grade. A little skimpier than I'd hoped, but still very useful, especially for newbies to writer's workshop methods
Alison/4/OH - I'm not leaving that was BYW that was.....sorry!
Diane/1st/NE - Glenda--yes I'm wondering what others do about that too.
naneb - Brad, my kids read the shark, whales, sea turtles books and then did research and made powerpoint presentations using the nonfiction conventions, they turned out so awesome, we did all of this in 1 week of guided reading lessons
Brad/3 - alison, it will be a common literacy time building-wide?
Alison/4/OH - Brad, would you say much of that book can be implemented to your 3rd graders?
KBH - Our local teacher store will be offering 20% off 4 Block materials in July and may wait.
REI/2/IL - Glenda...My handwriting is done during Word Block when modeling writing WWW on the board for checking and configuring.
Brad/3 - good for you nan, you're 6/sped right?
Beth - Handwriting...I try to use it along with writing.
Marcia/1st/GA - Brad, look at the files on the MOT group. I did a nonfiction notebook with my first graders and it was great! The kids really responded to it.
naneb - cin, http://www.readinga-z.com
Beth - And WWW,,I hit send to soon
Alison/4/OH - marcia, i'm familiar with yahoogroups so I should be fine.
naneb - cin, that site has books you can print out and use, it costs to join
Glenda 1st TN - Diane, in the past I've taught my handwriting as I introduced my phonics. From what I've read handwriting is touched on in Word Block like REI mentioned. My question REI, Is there enough "practice" time in the block to not take away from the word block itself?
Brad/3 - We read two different books on dog breeds and dogs at work in one week and did some comparing/contrasting. I really enjoyed the books, That was actually my observation lesson, and my administrator was very impressed with the little books. She asked where I got them.
REI/2/IL - I use Readinga-z with my kiddos. Has filled out my SSR baskets.
naneb - yes, Brad
Marcia/1st/GA - My notebook is on the files. It came right from Reading with Meaning by Debbie Miller. I can't claim any credit for it. But teaching it was a great experience and the kids were still talking about it a month later.
msdtchr - When are you guys beginning cursive?
Beth - But doesn't readinga-z have free ones too? I know I downloaded many free
Marcia/1st/GA - Great, Allison. When you join, introduce yourself and I will respond, Ok?
naneb - That was some of the best money I ever spent, I used those books for SSR and for guided reading
msdtchr - I have several kids with handwriting difficulties
Glenda 1st TN - In my system and I think in the state, not till third.
Diane/1st/NE - Cursive--3rd grade
cin - naneb....I take it you can make 'free' hard copies of these books?
REI/2/IL - Glenda....even through the end of the year I still do correct letter formation. It just flows together. We don't do formal "handwriting" papers.
Alison/4/OH - in our school they intro. cursive at 2nd...
Brad/3 - Cursive begins in 3rd in my building. I spend the first two quarters before Xmas about 15 minutes every other day introducing how to form letters. I reinforce by making one of my "on the back" activities writing the word wall words in cursive.
naneb - they do have some sample books plus, http://www.learningpage.com has the Tommy books and some other books you can print for free
msdtchr - I still have kids who are working on prewriting skills.
Brad/3 - I never used them for SSR, nan, but I hope to next year when I make some more (busy summer)
REI/2/IL - We introduce cursive at the end of 2nd grade.
Glenda 1st TN - What grade are you teaching, msdtchr?
msdtchr - I find that cursive is harder than manuscript.
Beth - Is Alison joinign the MOT group? I'm a member too..I just do more reading than posting
msdtchr - I teach special education K-8
naneb - I still have some of the newer books to make, they are printed and laminated but not bound, ran out of time
Brad/3 - I didn't laminate, nan, how did that work out. Do you think it helped?
Brad/3 - I was afraid of the glare.
naneb - I just laminated the covers
Alison/4/OH - I'm hoping to Beth...
Brad/3 - That's what I was thinking if I download color covers
Marcia/1st/GA - Beth, I think I have been doing more reading than posting too. I was reading my RWM book yesterday and was really enjoying it. I haven't read it through yet, tho?
Brad/3 - Reading my mind
Beth - I didn't laminate either. i just gave them away at the end of the year and make new ones for the next. I'm lucky to have a great supply of copy paper
Brad/3 - Alison, you're in Hamilton?
Alison/4/OH - Yes..brad
Brad/3 - That must be nice Beth, I'm thinking of doing some give-aways next year too though. I just can't believe schools and the copy paper issue. I mean for crying out loud, it's a school! (I know some worksheet queens abuse though)
Brad/3 - Just checking, that's what I thought
Beth - Me neither Marcia. I keep going back to it and rereading.
Alison/4/OH - We don't have a paperlimit in our school...thank goodness!
Brad/3 - This will be first year with 4B?
Alison/4/OH - OK, 4blocks...WWW do you do any of the homework lessons from the making words books?
naneb - I made some plain black and white copies to use for homework for next year. I am going to send them in a bag with an activity
Brad/3 - don't have the books, alison, but in fourth, I think they would be good
Brad/3 - me too nan, (it's scary how you're reading my mind tonite)
Beth - No paper limit here either. We just have to order our own. If we use up what we ordered...oh, well. I don't make a ton of copies so am always in pretty good shape.
REI/2/IL - We haven't been given a paper limit YET...but they started tracking our paper usage after Christmas.
Brad/3 - GMTA
Brad/3 - how do you save on copies Beth?
Beth - Good idea nan!
Alison/4/OH - we have a copy in our library, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to do the homeworks or not...on friday I'm planning to run some things for next year as my room will be ready to go for summer!
naneb - Brad, even though my kids are older they read at about a 3rd grade level so that is how I teach them so, we have a lot in common
KBH - Are any of you in states with money issues? I am from Indiana.
Brad/3 - just finished today, alison. turned in room keys today
naneb - we get 10,000 copies for the year, the machine keeps track, everyone has a password for the copy machine
Glenda 1st TN - KBH, I don't think there is a state without money issure. It is really rough in TN
Beth - Sad to say Alison, but not really.
Alison/4/OH - Lucky you!!! We have kids until 12:30 tomorrow, teachers go til 3:30, then we also have a teacher workday on Friday!
naneb - I have been out of school since May 23
Brad/3 - That's how it is in daughter's school here in town, Alison
Alison/4/OH - We start earlier next year too....
Marcia/1st/GA - I have been out since May 24th. Oh, Nan you have me beat!
Brad/3 - and how's your summer been Nan. Cheers again!
Beth - I've also been out since the 23rd
Glenda 1st TN - I've been out since the 31st of May. I've been in inservices this week and next week, too.
Brad/3 - so, not just to beth, how do you all save on copies?
naneb - I go back on August 5th, and get to hear Harry Wong speak on that day
Alison/4/OH - I am taking SIRI next week, then going to Columbus for Baldridge training the week after....then I get my summer break!!!
KBH - Glenda-are they increasing the size of your classes?
naneb - I am going to KY and the Smokies on the 16th of June and then to Cozumel on July 14
Beth - I have a 4 blocks inservice next M-W...my first...can't wait.
Brad/3 - I'm not the type of person who runs a lot of copies, and yet, I was down to my last ream when school let out. I'm not in the copy room near as much as some of the people who appear to have set up shop in there. I can't think of how that happened
Alison/4/OH - I am going to 4blocks training in July...
REI/2/IL - We have Baldridge training too this summer.
Beth - Me too nan! I'll be in the mountains the week before you. Small worl
Glenda 1st TN - KBH, It looks like we might. We will not have our EAs, bus transportation may be cut back, school technonolgy personel is also on the chopping block.
KBH - Has anyone heard Cheryl Sigmon's seminar---for those who want to go beyone the basics?
Brad/3 - I have Baldridge classroom training 20 and 21, and thten SIRI training that next week. The reverse of you alison, LOL
Alison/4/OH - I've been in my school 5 years and our princcipal doesn't limit our copy/paper use at all.....so I've never really thought about how much I even use!
REI/2/IL - KBH...I attended it several years ago.
Marcia/1st/GA - Well, Brad, you have to have some type of documentation of kids' prgress. I find myself copying a lot of forms or story maps or webs, things like that. Still a worksheet, I guess, but more geared to MY instruction.
Brad/3 - Baldrige is excellent, I think, for those of you who will be encountering it the first time. I hope you have our presenters too, they were very entertaining.
naneb - We are going to Mammoth cave and then drive over to the mountains and down to Atlanta and then home
Alison/4/OH - Are you going to Columbus for Baldrige? And are you doing SIRI 1 or 2?
Marcia/1st/GA - Nan, you should call me when you come to Atlanta. I am on the northwest side!
Brad/3 - That's what it is Marcia. Also, being a first-year, I was trying a lot of different things. I'm thinking of laminating some story maps and things next year. What do you think?
KBH - Glenda-Our technology must be hurting too, they've asked me to be the building rep.
Brad/3 - I think it's SIRI 1. I"ve never been before.
Glenda 1st TN - When our principal started limiting our copies, the first grade teachers went to him and justified why we felt we needed more copies. He was a jewel and and gave us 3,000 copies, per 6 weeks.
naneb - Marcia, I am thinking of using a portfolio for next year and have documentation for each strategy
Alison/4/OH - Vis a Vis wear out pretty quickly in my opinino and cost more than a ream of paper or so....
KBH - REI/2/IL Is it good?
Brad/3 - I already did Baldrige training in district. This is Baldrige in classroom in my district's offices
Marcia/1st/GA - I think it's good. See if you can find a poster maker. They are a great machine. You can take a basic web or story map and it will blow it up to poster size.
naneb - I am the tech person for my school, lots of work=little pay
naneb - we have one of those Marcia
Glenda 1st TN - Be careful KBH. I was the sysop for our school for several years. It came close to burning me out and causing me to leave teaching.
Alison/4/OH - You'll love it!!! You'll get the strategies that work book, ,and several others....
Brad/3 - AGreed, Alison, like the tip melts or something on VIS a vis. I"m dreaming of a whiteboard next christmas (with every overhead I write)
Marcia/1st/GA - I was going to tell Brad that if he chooses to do the MOT strategies with his 3rd graders (which would be excellent at that age), then he might want to have the kids record things in a spiral notebook, Hence, less copying again.
REI/2/IL - It was....you definitely need to have a strong back ground in 4 Blocks for it.
Marcia/1st/GA - Brad, at our school, we have big sheets of the shower board that are propped into our chalboard ledge. Works great, however it's not magnetic
KBH - GLENDA-thanks for the warning! I may have to take a few classes to be up to par, but will have the help of the corporation techie.
Marcia/1st/GA - What is Baldridge?
Alison/4/OH - I will do beginning baldridge for 4 days!
naneb - I have a big TV connected to my computer and I use that for lots of things
Alison/4/OH - Brad, do you have collaborative planning time as well?
Brad/3 - Alison, how come I can "get" these books free at these workshops after I've already bought them. It makes me want to ask for a voucher for a different book since I was already so smart to buy the one they're giving away LOL
Glenda 1st TN - Brad, if your dreaming of a white board, check out the shower boards at HomeDepot or Lowes. That is what I have on my board.
Brad/3 - Nan, I'm looking for the equipment to do this. marcia, where did you get showerboard, how much?
naneb - Glenda, I am about there now, I usually hide out during my planning time to avoid computer problems
Alison/4/OH - we just got this last year naneb, but my problme is I do most of my computer work at home, and I have macs at school, but not at home...
KBH - REI/2/IL Thanks, this will be my 3rd year for 4 Block. I've heard Dottie, Pat, and gone to a 5 day workshop too.
Alison/4/OH - I have showerboard too...not magnetic but is great!
REI/2/IL - I have shower board too. Wanted a Smart Board...got shower board instead. LOL!!!
Marcia/1st/GA - Brad, showerboard can be found in the lumber department of a Lowes or Home Depot. Costs about $10
Brad/3 - we do have collaborative time, alison, but I'm at a weak grade level and that's all I say without legal representation
Beth - I had a piece of the white shower board cut into small sections for the children to use.
Brad/3 - what size are you talking, marcia?
Alison/4/OH - Me too, Beth...works great for review games and such!
Marcia/1st/GA - I usually buy a big piece and have them cut them down to 12 x 12 pieces. I buy a bunch of markers and Wala! Christmas presents for the kiddos.
naneb - Brad, I used showerboard too. Lowes will cut it for you and everything. I put it up with panel adhesive and then screwed it around the edges, It cost about $20.00
Glenda 1st TN - naneb. I hear you. I got no pay and stress from my principal. I enjoyed the technonloy training I receieved. But the time after school and during the weekends and summers just was more than I wanted to do.
Marcia/1st/GA - It's 4 feet long and the width will fit exactly into the chalkboard. Probably 3 feet wide.
Brad/3 - Also heard a rumor there is an unused smartboard in the building as of last week.
Brad/3 - that smooching sound you hear is not me
Alison/4/OH - LOL brad
Marcia/1st/GA - Smooch away to the right person at your school, Brad!
naneb - Marcia, I bought 4X8 sheets
KBH - The tech duties sound bad, I wonder if I made a bad choice?
Alison/4/OH - Mine at school is 4/x8
Brad/3 - I used my chalkboard for my word wall. God bless magnetic chalkboards
Marcia/1st/GA - You know what Nan. It is longer than four feet. Not thinking tonight, I guess. Mine is probably the same as yours. 4 x.8
Glenda 1st TN - You can give it a try KBH. If it turns out to be more than you bargined for, give them notice and bow out.
Marcia/1st/GA - What is Baldridge?
Brad/3 - personally, I wouldn't be tech for love or money. I think the lady who does it is constantly bombarded.
Alison/4/OH - Brad, do you have a copy of the SSR Rubric you talked about earlier? I came in on the end of that conversation.....
naneb - KBH, some parts of it are good, more training being in on everything that is happening, my computer is always fixed first, etc
Brad/3 - alison, I took it down, but if you give me your email, I"ll locate it and send it to you
REI/2/IL - KBH~I'm the Tech coordinator. It can be a big job, but has perks.
naneb - Brad, send me the rubric and I will post it on my site, I think everyone will want it
Alison/4/OH - Certainly....alihiam@fuse.net
Brad/3 - be sure to credit Lucy Calkins because the majority comes from her book
Alison/4/OH - Thank you!!
Glenda 1st TN - Sounds like a great idea nan and Brad.
KBH - naneb-that sounds good our tech person winked and said I would be 1st to get a new computer this year
Alison/4/OH - Nan, by the way, my printer was working overtime at your website the other day!!!!!
KBH - hopefully that will make up for the hassles
Brad/3 - marcia, baldrige is a system of alignment and organization for school districts or buildings
Alison/4/OH - Great job on it!!
naneb - I am the coordinator for the electronic gradebook too, so, I have the server, we are going to an all networked program so, I hope I get to keep the computer
Marcia/1st/GA - Never heard of it. What is involved?
Alison/4/OH - Also to add, Baldridgestarted as a coporate way of being analyzed
naneb - Alison, that is what it is for, all of that stuff is from the mail ring
Brad/3 - nan, I think you sent something I don't know how to open and I think I've deleted it
naneb - thanks, alison
naneb - I sen my email it is, naneb@bellsouth.net
Marcia/1st/GA - Brad, is it system organization, curriculum alignment, or both of those things?
Brad/3 - training, Marcia. It really sounds like a good program to me. When I get more info, I'll send to you. It's not just for schools It's for any organization. It's big in OHIO right now, state board just adopted it
Brad/3 - both
Marcia/1st/GA - Brad, ok. Thank you. my email is ncnyga@aol.com
Alison/4/OH - Marcia, the way it was presented to us was seeing the school run more like a business...the students are our stakeholders...
Brad/3 - nan, can you explain electronic gradebook, I think my district is going to this next year. I already use an electronic gradebook, but I'm curious how this works on a district level
REI/2/IL - http://baldrigeineducation.org/
Marcia/1st/GA - Allison, it's probably not a bad idea to run schools more efficiently. Some things I have seen handled in schools is apalling. For example, inventory control...
Marcia/1st/GA - Thanks for the website. I saved it.
Beth - nan, does your school also keep report cards on the server
Alison/4/OH - OK, did I make it to the right mosaic mailring? MosaicTeachers?????
Brad/3 - good for you rei, I've been looking for the site this whole time
Brad/3 - sounds right, ali
Beth - Sounds right Alison
Glenda 1st TN - REI, I'm going to have a student teacher in the fall. I'm also going to start 4 Blocks. Do you have any advice on what she should take over first? Any advice at all on 4 blocks and student teachers?
Brad/3 - ali, did you graduate from this area?
Alison/4/OH - Cool!!
Marcia/1st/GA - it's mosaicteachers There's no space between the two words. What's your email addy?
Alison/4/OH - college? Miami U
Brad/3 - glenda, I think easiest block is word block, especially if you have MXM
Alison/4/OH - yes, no spaces.... alihiam@fuse.net
naneb - The one we use is called Pinnacle. It is great, it keeps track of attendance, notes, grades and a principal can view it but not edit. Teachers can work on it from home by logging into the network. It prints progress reports and report cards, new students are automatically entered into the system
Brad/3 - just curious if you were from the area also
naneb - I will get the link for you
Marcia/1st/GA - Glenda, I started 4 blocks this year and had a student teacher and it was VERY hard for her to understand. However, I mgiht add, she had a hard time with everything!!
REI/2/IL - Glenda...you are in luck. I've had 5 student teachers in the last 3 years and will have my 6th one this fall. I usually start them off with the Word Block.
Glenda 1st TN - I have MXM phonics for first
naneb - pinnacle gradebook
Brad/3 - in my district, they will be using it to determine "what" we're grading (my understanding). How is it used to do this, nan?
Alison/4/OH - Yes, born and raised here...
Alison/4/OH - you?
naneb - http://www.gradebook.com/
Beth - Glenda, I agree with Brad...word block would be easier for him/her to handle. It will probably be new to them. I doubt if they get much exposure in college to 4 blocls
Glenda 1st TN - Great, thanks Brad and REI. I don't want to swamp her, but do you have them read the teacher's Guide to 4 B?
Brad/3 - After word I would move to SSR, being sure you model conferencing
Brad/3 - then I would go to guided and writer's assuming he/she's watched you model over and over and over and over. Many many teachers still don't quite understand a workshop way of teaching
REI/2/IL - Glenda...it is one of the things I give to my student teacher.
naneb - the regular ed classes have all of their objectives in the system and they reference them for each grade
Brad/3 - At the time I learned there was no "guide" so I just watched, but then I'm pretty quick at picking things up
Beth - Brad has the idea. i had an intern this spring and that's the schedule for her take over responsibilitie I used
Marcia/1st/GA - Allison, I see your addy in our membership list. I sent you an email.
Brad/3 - I'm from around Middletown, Franklin specifically, but I lay no claim
Brad/3 - I'm sorry, Nan, so many ideas flying. So they score for each indicator?
Marcia/1st/GA - Well, I am enjoying immensely, but need to share the computer with a teenager in the house. I hope to hear from some of you on MOT mailring soon!
naneb - I will have a student teacher in the Fall as well
Glenda 1st TN - Thanks everyone, I feel so much better about her coming.
Brad/3 - ie. indicator--Adds two digit numbers with regrouping--A?
naneb - I think it just references the objective for the assignment
Alison/4/OH - Thanks a bunch Marcia!!!
Glenda 1st TN - bye, Marcia, It's been great
Brad/3 - I'm up to message 850, Marcia!! LOL, I"ll be there soon.
naneb - yes, Brad I think that is correct, I had to put in my own objectives because I am sped
Marcia/1st/GA - Your're welcome, Allison. And good to hear from you too, Brad! Keep reading!
REI/2/IL - Glenda, it can be hard, but if you model, model, model and then carefully check what they have planned it should go smoothly.
Alison/4/OH - hamilton/fairfield for me.....
Marcia/1st/GA - Bye Nan. Let me know when you are coming to Atlanta
Brad/3 - I actually believe 4B would be easier on new teacher, but what do I know? This is the only way I've ever taught
naneb - last year I was new to 4 blocks and I had a student teacher first thing, it was hard on both of us
naneb - okay, Marcia
Brad/3 - Do you have certain assessments you have to conduct for each objective, or. . .?
Brad/3 - I could see how that would be difficult, though, nan, both being new
REI/2/IL - Glenda...do you know if your student teacher has any idea about 4 Blocks?
naneb - I don't think they do
Beth - bye..must go..it's been nice
naneb - I think this year will be much better, but we are going to 100 minute classes every other day
REI/2/IL - Brad...it can be very difficult on a student teacher if they are coming from a university that doesn' have much exposure to 4 Blocks.
Brad/3 - So as long as my classroom activity or test was for that indicator, it didn't match what I did? Sorry, I probably shouldn't discuss this in this chat. Maybe we should email privately. WWW. gradebook.com?
naneb - REI, sped student teachers will no nothing about 4 blocks, but it didn't take mine long to see the benefits
naneb - sorry can't type no=know
Brad/3 - But, to me, the thing about 4B, is it's an organizational system too, with a few choice activities. It's not a radical new way of teaching. But again, I'm young and this is the only way I've ever taught
naneb - I am not even sure what I will be teaching next year, my principal is Mr. control and he has not decided what each sped teacher will teach
REI/2/IL - Naneb~actually, 4 Blocks was covered in my special ed student teachers program.
Glenda 1st TN - REI, I met her just before school was out. No, she didn't know anything about 4 blocks. She seemed eager to get in the classroom. I think if I can get my act together, she will work hard to follow my lead.
Brad/3 - As far as subject matter/grade level???
naneb - I had kids who would not read at the beginning of the year and by Christmas they were fighting over who got to read what book
Brad/3 - Just be open and let her try new things,
REI/2/IL - Oops...that should have been my last special ed student teacher.
Alison/4/OH - I'm there with you Brad! Been in the classroom for 4 years, and I've only taught Success For All Reading....I have alot to learn!
naneb - really? that is amazing REI, my student teacher was an Early childhood major and she knew nothing
REI/2/IL - Brad..how long have you taught using 4 Blocks?
Brad/3 - I didn't think my cooperating teacher was going to be very open to new things (32 years) but she basically let me try all sorts of new things as long as she saw I was capable.
naneb - what I love the most about 4 blocks is the excitement from the students, they are so engaged all of the time
Brad/3 - this is my first year under contract, but my coop teacher in student teaching let me do it and I did it in my long term sub position. and in my internship
Alison/4/OH - Our proficiency scores raised alot this year, so I hope 4blocks will bring them up even more next year....
Alison/4/OH - brad did you go to UC/
Glenda 1st TN - Where do you have your students keep the books the pick out for SSR when they come in in the mornings?
naneb - I just found out that I will have a student teacher, the coordinator from school called and said that the University requested me specifically, I was flattered
REI/2/IL - But the student teacher I had right after her came from a school in Kansas. Hadn't had any exposure to 4 Blocks. In fact, none of her professors knew about 4 Blocks.
Brad/3 - word walls were distributed around my school but no one put them up except me. Then people started putting them up and my kids were saying, "Mr. Johnson, seems like everyone's copying off you with these word walls, now." They loved word wall!!
Brad/3 - went to Antioch
REI/2/IL - Glenda..my kids have baggies. The baggies are kept in our table "book baskets".
Brad/3 - Glenda, part of my supply list was a magazine file, adn they kept clipboards reading logs and SSR books in there, they could carry it anywhere in the room they read. (I move during conferences, not them)
Brad/3 - did not learn 4B in university, in fact exposed some of my university faculty to it
Brad/3 - Nan, I'm impressed. Good for you.
naneb - REI, that is what I did too, I tried baskets and that was a hassle cuz, the kids would put their book in any basket when the bell rang, bags worked the best
Brad/3 - in 3rd, most are in chapter books, so I thought rotating the baskets would be too much a hassle with kids who hadn't finished, blah, blah, blah. . .
REI/2/IL - It makes it easier for my kids to keep track of their Now book, Next book and 2 Quick and Easy books.
Glenda 1st TN - Okay, nan and REI, each child has a plastic baggie. Then they put their bags in the basket at their table. Are there other books in the basket that are not in their bags?
Alison/4/OH - I am going to try SSR folder for logs/baggies for books...used to have those chair things and gave them away...shooting myself in the foot now!
naneb - We also had folders with the reading a-z books in them, we did that at any available time
Brad/3 - oh, alison, I would love to have the chair things!! Why'd you give them up?
Brad/3 - how do you store readinga-z books nan?
naneb - Glenda, yes I had a few books in the basket, usually books that I have read during read aloud
Brad/3 - Magazine files are sturdier than baggies, in my humble opinion
Alison/4/OH - yes, but my kids don't even bring pencils to school let alone a $3 magazine file....
Brad/3 - 95 cents at WALMart
Alison/4/OH - I had a class from h**l who just wouldn't leave them alone...took them down. I got them from Crayons to Computers so I may get some more if they have them on our next shopping day...
Glenda 1st TN - Your right Brad, but with 6 yr olds they will not have enough room at their tables or desks to keep them.
naneb - I have a rack from a book store that has shelves with plexiglas fronts kindof like little steps. I keep them in stacks by level
Alison/4/OH - Really? Plastic or cardboard?
REI/2/IL - Glenda..in my classroom, each table has a basket. Kiddos plop baggies into basket.
Brad/3 - what do you mean take them down?
Brad/3 - wow, nan, I'm jealous
naneb - you can get the boxes from walmart that folders come in for free, just ask them
Alison/4/OH - meant off....
Brad/3 - Plastic
naneb - somebody was going to throw it out and I grabbed it, it is only about 2 feet tall and sits on the floor in my reading area
Brad/3 - Glenda, you're probably right in first grade. I think the traveling baskets work well at this level and beginning second because they usually read a pic book or two a day, but in 3rd with chapter books, you can't rotate baskets daily. so I did away with them altogether
Glenda 1st TN - Okay, I'm jump topics again. What do you use for an author's chair?
naneb - I use baskets just to store the bags since I have different kids every period
Brad/3 - good idea, nan, or you can make them from cereal boxes. One of my kids brought one in this year, and I made it for him. Didn't last long though. HE's kind've destructive on his things.
naneb - I don't have one yet, but Family Dollar has plastic lawn chairs on sale this week
Glenda 1st TN - Are they the child size?
Brad/3 - want to find something else, but MY CHAIR, they all try to steal it everyday anyway
Alison/4/OH - I have an old rocking chair in my bedroom, that I'm thinking about painting blue to match my classroom, then writing AUTHOR in fancy letters ( or somehting).
REI/2/IL - My 2nd graders usually are reading chapter books by Christmas. I rotated baskets once a week. If a kiddo wasn't finished, they just put their book in the new basket.
Brad/3 - I was thinking of 3 hole punching and binding the corresponding lesson plans and worksheets adn then storing my "collections" in cereal boxes. What do you think or do you have better suggestion?
Glenda 1st TN - My students would "steal" my desk any time I told them they could work anywhere in the room. I think I had a room full of future teachers.
REI/2/IL - I have a large plastic chair covered with sparkly stars. Modge podge the thing so they couldn't pick the stars off. Been using the chair for 5 years now.
Brad/3 - I have two orange chairs that are really just adult versions a size bigger than their chairs. No one will touch them, but I also have a blue one (all student ones are blue or yellow) They think I won't notice they have that one. LOL
Glenda 1st TN - What is Modge podge?
Brad/3 - Modge podge?
Alison/4/OH - varnish
Brad/3 - 100 times a day--"You know you're not supposed to touch the purple table chairs." LOL
Glenda 1st TN - I get it. Thanks.
REI/2/IL - It is a thick acrylic type stuff that seals things. It looks like really thick glue.
REI/2/IL - Dries clear.
Alison/4/OH - oh well...i am still teaching, so I need to go get my stuff together for tomorrow!!! Some of us aren't so lucky to be on summer break just yet!!!! LOL
Brad/3 - I want to go to tables next year. Has anyone done this?
Alison/4/OH - Wanted tables BAD...district ordered new desks for everyone...no say so!
Brad/3 - alison, hope to see you again soon
Brad/3 - ugh
Glenda 1st TN - How important do you think it is to name the chair "The Author's Chair"? I had thought about "The Share Chair" because we will be sharing our books, stories, and books they have read. Any ideas pro or con?
REI/2/IL - I'm teaching summer school. Won't be on break until end of June.
Alison/4/OH - Yes, thanks again for the rubric idea!!! night all!!!!
Brad/3 - ugh on tables situation, not you alison, lol
Alison/4/OH - hehehe knew what you meant!
Glenda 1st TN - Bye Alison.
naneb - I am going to make a cover for mine and let the kids decorate it!
Brad/3 - Share Chair. More rhythmic. "Brains love rhythmic patterns." LOL
Glenda 1st TN - Good point Brad.
Brad/3 - a cover for your chair?
Alison/4/OH - one more thing...I love share chair!!! Better than author's chair!!
naneb - I have two person tables, we push them together to make groups
Brad/3 - That way they can share vacation photos or seashells or anything from the chair, not just books
REI/2/IL - Glenda..My chair isn't named, but I have two different chairs. The Star chair is our Author chair. I have a children's rocker that is covered in sparkly apple stickers that is our Share chair.
naneb - s, Brad out of fabric, then let the kids paint it with fabric paint
Brad/3 - dreaming, nan, wishing i were you
Brad/3 - oh, now that I think about it, a slip cover. duh
naneb - even my big kids love to share, during writing they would write just so they can read it to everyone else
Brad/3 - so, nan, ideas are flying. did you have one on my storage situation. multiple copies of readinga-z books
naneb - I must have missed that question Brad, I was in talking to my husband for a minute
REI/2/IL - Better go. I need to work on workshop materials for next week.
Brad/3 - Goal for next year, incorporate the share daily. Not real frequent this year, and I think it hurt. It's a great motivator. Bad me.
Brad/3 - what kind of workshop rei?
Glenda 1st TN - Jumping topics again. Sorry to be so full of questions. I've always done centers. I realize I won't have time for centers next year. Am I correct? I have 8 computers in my classroom that the system expects to be used a lot and I mean a lot. How do you suggest I get this in?
naneb - Brad, I am not goingto print color covers for the books that we read together then just give them to the kids, the ones for SSR I will laminate the covers and keep
naneb - I am going to try to incorporate more partner and table sharing
REI/2/IL - Workshop for next week is Big Blocks.
Brad/3 - glenda, I think I'm going to try and incorporate some centers time next year, just for that reason
Brad/3 - And during this center time, I can pull strugglers aside
naneb - Wow, 8 computers!! I would be in heaven
Brad/3 - And hopefully squeeze in a little more ss/sci this way
naneb - REI, can I come??
Brad/3 - do you have some on computers for writers', Glenda
REI/2/IL - Glenda....I find it is difficult to find center time. I have 6 computers. We use them for publishing, research, illustrating, etc...
Brad/3 - Goal for next year, spend more time on ss/sci
naneb - I bought this software called Easy Books Deluxe that you can use to make books
Brad/3 - I'm searching for time too REI. It's hard to do 4B and give math and the others their justice too when my school day is so short
Glenda 1st TN - Yes, it is nice. 5 are CDroms (one of them is my personal computer from home) and the other 3 are old server computers. But they work. I will have Book Builder on 3 of them. I hope to get these 3 attached to a printer.
Brad/3 - Integration was next to impossible because of pull-out, but I'm thinking of new ideas over the summer
naneb - see if you can get network cards and then network them to a printer, that way they can all print to the same printer
Brad/3 - Relating more instruction in 4B to soc/sci topics. Any other ideas?
REI/2/IL - Naneb...Sorry, but my workshop is full. They have been turning people away the last month. Same for my Building Blocks workshops. My 2 day 4 Blocks workshop (for late July) has only a handful of spots left.
Brad/3 - REad alouds. . .
Glenda 1st TN - Well, it is getting late. You have all been great answering my questions. I'll keep reading and be back next week. Lord willing. Again. thanks.
Brad/3 - glenda, good night
naneb - It is too far anyway Rei, just teasing!!
Brad/3 - REI, if you don't mind, who are you by name (in case you come to my town)
naneb - I am in Mississippi, kind of far to go for a workshop
REI/2/IL - Lennette Holden
Brad/3 - okay, thanks
Brad/3 - do you have any further ideas on integration?
naneb - We are suppose to have Pat coming in the fall, I have been promised that I can attend
REI/2/IL - Naneb...coming to your district?
Brad/3 - My title kids left during literacy time but I was still responsible for their grades in these subjects, so it was difficult to do anything integrating.
naneb - going to go for now, talk to you all later, bye Brad, REY
Brad/3 - bye, nan
naneb - Yes, sometime at the beginning of the school year
Brad/3 - good to talk to you, i'll get the rubric to you
naneb - thanks Brad
REI/2/IL - Why were they pulled during yoru literacy time? Our title program isn't allowed to take students during our literacy time.
Brad/3 - to make class size smaller, I think, is the prevailing reason. This may happen again next year, what do you suggest I do?
REI/2/IL - Okay.....I'm really leaving now.
Brad/3 - Title teaches literacy in our school to those "on the bubble" of testing
