jeanne/ece/tx - 'evening, Halifax! How are you doing?
Halifax - good, you?
jeanne/ece/tx - doing well, thanks!
Halifax - what are you up to these days? Do you teach?
jeanne/ece/tx - you in Ontario?
Halifax - No, I'm in Nova Scotia
jeanne/ece/tx - Yes ... I get to work with preschool aged kiddos with special needs. (Love it!) You?
jeanne/ece/tx - *red face* ... of course! I should have known that!
Halifax - I'm a teacher but can't work right now - I have to take some courses to up my credentials - I just moved form ontario
Halifax - How big is your class that you work with?
jeanne/ece/tx - can you work as "supply" (what we Americans call a substitute?)
Halifax - believe it or not, I've taught 4 years in Ontario and they won't even let me be a sub. here. Any they are crying for sub. teachers!
jeanne/ece/tx - My classes right now max at 10 per session (morning and afternoon). It looks like I may see my class expand by a couple or three kiddos by the end of the year (finances).
Halifax - classic - cut backs = larger groups lol
jeanne/ece/tx - hi ther ^^8 -- you still here?
Halifax - hi grace
jeanne/ece/tx - I can't complain too much ... 10 kiddos ... 1 teacher ... 3 teaching assistants ... music therapy ... speech therapy ... occupational and physical therapy ... we're well taken care of!
jeanne/ece/tx - Hi Grace!
Grace/IL - Hi all
jeanne/ece/tx - At one point today we had five kiddos and four adults in my classroom ... the "highest functioning" kiddos I work with!
Halifax - Your right Jeanne - not too bad
jeanne/ece/tx - Now, we "pay dearly" for that kind of staffing ... it means we have some 'ring-tailed corkers' in my classroom at times ... LOTS of one-on-one intervention ... we're a very hands-on class!
Grace/IL - Nicole, what do you teach?
Halifax - Jeanne, I've had a kindergarten class with 33 kids, one teacher and one aid - but I don't think I could do what you do. LOL
Nicole - third grade/TX
Halifax - I do some work in a grade 3 class Nicole - how do you like it?
Grace/IL - Halifax, what level did you teach in Ontario? Where in Ont.?
jeanne/ece/tx - Hi Nicole ... I'm in TX, too ... Arlington ... get to work with special needs preschool -- it is a job I LOVE!
Nicole - I like it except for our TAKS test coming in March...really stressful
Halifax - I started teaching kindergarten and then moved up to grade one.
Halifax - sorry Nicole - what's TAKS - is that state testing?
Grace/IL - Were you in the Windsor area? Ontario is such a big province.
Nicole - Kids came in way low this year and it is a huge struggle trying to get them to read at grade level
Halifax - Grace - I used to live in Ottawa
Grace/IL - Hi Ana, what grade level are you?
jeanne/ece/tx - At this point I feel badly for most of the kiddos in our schools today. There is SO MUCH emphasis placed on standardized testing ... kids have to learn the test -- learning has kind of fallen by the wayside in deference to the TEST! ((( Poor babies )))
Nicole - Yes, if the students don't pass the reading they don't go to 4th grade
Ana - Hello everyone
jeanne/ece/tx - Nicole, that won't be a small task this year! Good luck!
Grace/IL - You had bilingual schools? French and English taught everywhere?
jeanne/ece/tx - Hi, Ana~
Halifax - Really Nicole???
Nicole - thanks
Nicole - yes
Ana - I'm going to be student teaching soon!
Nicole - utor 3 day a week after school for an hour
Nicole - i am burned out!!!
Ana - so I thought I'd come see what this chat room was all about
Nicole - As well as the kids
Halifax - Grace, we had some schools that are dual track - both english and french immersion. I was in a one track, english school where the kids got 40 mins of french per day.
jeanne/ece/tx - Halifax -- it is part of the "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND" legislation currently haunting our schools.
Grace/IL - Nicole, that's a good job as long as they won't allow you IN the schools.
Nicole - What are you talking about Grace?
Grace/IL - Nicole is in Nova
Nicole - WHat??
Halifax - Jeanne - doesn't "no child left behind" indicate that they move forward?
Grace/IL - Nicole is in Nova Scotia. They won't give her a job because she's certified in Ontario.
Nicole - No more supposed social promotion
Halifax - GRace - that's me!!!
Grace/IL - Not Nicole -- Halifax!
jeanne/ece/tx - Ana -- this room (for tonite) will be an early childhood teachers' meeting ... other nites there are other meetings (student teachers, substitute teachers, new teachers, grade levels, special needs, etc.) -- there is a main chatroom where teachers and others just meet anc chat. Glad you found us!
Nicole - I teach in TX
Ana - Great! What a great resource!
Halifax - Ana - what level do you want to teach?
jeanne/ece/tx - Halifax -- the intnention of the legislation is that EVERY child WILL read on grade level by the end of third, eighth, and tenth grades. Something about making "all children average" -- is that even possible (((Consider the definition of average!)))
Ana - Thanks, Jeanne! I wish you all the best!
Ana - I'd like to teach 2nd or 3rd grade
Halifax - Jeanne - that's crazy - why would anyone want to be "average"?
Halifax - Best of luck to you Ana
jeanne/ece/tx - Ana -- here you will also find over 120 chat boards -- states, grade levels, special interests, etc -- lesson plans -- archived meetings from the past -- a monthly magazine -- meetings with well-known authors -- support beyond belief!
Nicole - But the buck is stopping at third. Why aren't lower grades tutoring the kids?? They come to my room and it's like...we have to do something
Grace/IL - I think the legislation is more about bringing up the bottom students than it is to make every child average. But the average will go up if it works.
Ana - Thanks again...bye!!
jeanne/ece/tx - Nicole -- on my campus 'at-risk' kiddos are tutored from the beginning of the school year ... Kindergarten up! tutoring doesn't start in January and end after the test, either! ((I was so surprised to see it go to almost the last day of the school year!))
jeanne/ece/tx - Best wishes, Ana!
Halifax - You know, I'll never understand why more money and efforts aren't poured into the early primary grades - that's where the kids learn the bulk of thier reading strategies!
Grace/IL - We need more research based teaching in the primary grades.
Nicole - Well...are you talking about after school tutoring or the ARI tutoring that is done during the day?? We have had that. I do that now during school and after 3 days for an hour each day
jeanne/ece/tx - Grace -- it is about better support for struggling students, and I DO believe that all children can learn, but ...
jeanne/ece/tx - There is very limited after-school tutoring done here ... there will be maybe six weeks worth of after-school tutoring done ... primarily with the same kiddos who receive extra help during the day.
Grace/IL - I'm waiting for the rest of your message - -
Halifax - Nicole - you sound like you're getting a little burt out - good for you to support these kids but don't let it drag you down too far.
Halifax - that would be "burnt out"
Nicole - Don't get me wrong..I love teaching but if you talk to any third grade teachers in TX...we are all feeling the pressure
Grace/IL - It shouldn't have to be "after school" tutoring. We need to change the way we teach within the regular school day.
jeanne/ece/tx - Grace, I know that all students can learn, but until we decide that every child in every classroom is an individual ... and not all children learn the same way or at the same rate ... and begin acknowledging those learning differences, finding all children in grade 3 reading on-level is going to be a pipe-dream! We keep trying to use the old models ... they worked once but now seem broken!
Halifax - In ontario there are provincial tests in the spring as well. The teachers there are all stressed about the test as well. They hate them. The gov't is now introducing provincial tests for all grades - grade one included!
jeanne/ece/tx - Hi, Ms.Marie! Welcome to this evening's early childhood/primary chat!
Grace/IL - Have any of you visited the Professional Reading Board? We do a lot of discussing of research based practices there.
Halifax - Hi marie
Ms Marie - Hi jeanne thanks for the welcome
jeanne/ece/tx - Grace -- what is the website for that board?
Ms Marie - hi Halifax
Grace/IL - jeanne, I agree. People think the old models worked but they really didn't. Lots of kids have always fallen through the cracks.
Halifax - Do any of you use the Four Blocks model?
Grace/IL - jeanne, just look at the master board. Prof Rdg is here on teachers.net
jeanne/ece/tx - okay, thanks Grace!
Grace/IL - jeanne, have you read Mel Levine'
Grace/IL - Oh, ding it! I always hit the wrong key. Anyway, have you read Mel Levine's "A Mind at A Time"?
jeanne/ece/tx - Grace, I think some of the "old" models worked ... the "new and improved" methods we get to explore now are often so scattered and so focused toward testing that the actual learning isn't allowed to happen. Kids need TIME at the start of the reading road to master and internalize the skills presented!
jeanne/ece/tx - hi kitt! Welcome to this evening's early childhood/primary chat!
Halifax - Grace - sounds interesting - what's it about?
Grace/IL - It's about kids who learn differently, those who don't fit the molds.
jeanne/ece/tx - I like Building Blocks and Four Blocks ... Kid Writing ... Phonics They Use ... and related methods are proving quite useful ... but too few people embrace their practices.
jeanne/ece/tx - Grace, no I've not red Mel Levine yet ... I'm just now getting around to Multiple Intelligences!
jeanne/ece/tx - 'evening, AP -- Welcome to this evening's early childhood/primary chat!
Grace/IL - Another interesting book is "People Types and Tiger Stripes." It's based on the Myers-Briggs personality inventory.
AP - Thanks!
Halifax - Jeanne - I only found out about the 4 blocks last year. People up here are just finding out about it and I am pushing it like it's my new job - I love their framework!
jeanne/ece/tx - I'll put A Mind at a Time on my list of books to read!
Halifax - Hi AP - what's your age bracket?
Grace/IL - People Types claims that that most teachers are global learners but 70 percent of students are linear learners so there's a major mismatch in the schools. Hi, AP, good to see you here.
jeanne/ece/tx - Halifax -- there is a 4 blocks chat board here ... and there have been several EC meetings about 4-blocks. You can review transcripts of meetings at http://www.teachers.net/archive
AP - I teach second graders
jeanne/ece/tx - Hi Paulie! Welcome to this evening's early childhood/primary chat!
AP - Hi Grace. I just got the book you mentioned
Grace/IL - Which one, AP?
Halifax - cool jeanne. Actually, my board found out about it as part of their push for balanced literacy and I was able to go to a lot of PD about it. Then I had to offer workshops to my staff.
jeanne/ece/tx - Who authored People Types and Tiger Stripes, Grace?
AP - A Mind at a Time
Paulie - hi Meeha amd Grace I forgot it was Tuesday -- those Monday holidays will do that to u
jeanne/ece/tx - That they will, Paulie!
Grace/IL - Gordon Lawrence. It's out of print but I got a brand new copy through a used book store via amazon.
Halifax - Monday holiday??? Did I miss something?
Grace/IL - It was Martin Luther King day in the states, Halifax.
jeanne/ece/tx - Halifax ... some of us were off yesterday for MARTIN LUTHER KING Day
Paulie - well it was MLK day yesterday whether u got the day off or not
Halifax - oh...right...
Halifax - Paulie, I'm Canadian
Paulie - ok
Halifax - You know, I understand why it's a holiday - but what do you all do on MLK day?
Grace/IL - AP, I hope you like it. I can't get anyone interested in discussing it on the Prof board.
Paulie - they have parades in some cities and other celebrations
Grace/IL - Halifax, we'd be better off if schools were open and students studied about MLK.
Halifax - cool! A lot of my resourse books have sections on it but we don't tend to use them up here.
Paulie - some places they just stay home, businesses closed
jeanne/ece/tx - I see a lot of focus on our campus and in our district on taking care of each other, helping children better understand the past, and a focus on working toward a better tomorrow. (((A healthy respect for the people around us, the things that are similar and a celebration of differences.))
jeanne/ece/tx - 'evening, Mauce.
Grace/IL - Not many people like discussing the fact that a good percentage of children need carefully planned sequential instruction.
Halifax - We used to have Remeberance Day off in the hopes that people would remember the veterans and then schools started staying open for it. I don't know if the kids get more out of it by being in school or not.
Paulie - of course they do some appropriate things in school to learn about MLK Jr and black history month too
jeanne/ece/tx - hi Vic! Mauce! Welcome to this evening's early childhood/primary chat!
Paulie - have Veteran's Day off here
Halifax - Well, it's been nice chatting with you but it's bed time for this bonzo...have fun with your kiddies
jeanne/ece/tx - Paulie -- we have one long weekend each month here!
jeanne/ece/tx - Halifax, it was nice meeting y ou! Have a great week!
Paulie - bye Halifax come again
jeanne/ece/tx - Mauce, how has your week been?
Paulie - each month?
Grace/IL - In our area schools are closed for Columbus Day, Veterans' Day, MLK Day, President's Day, Casimir Pulaski Day, you name it.
Vic - Grace, how long are you in school then?
Paulie - ok I will bite who is Casmir Pulaski?
jeanne/ece/tx - Paulie -- yes. Let's see ... Labor Day ... Colombus Day ... Thanksgiving ... WInter Holiday ... MLK Day ... President's Day ... Spring Break ... Good Friday ... Cinco de Mayo ... Memorial Day
Mauce - My week has been busy. We are getting ready for report cards. At home we are getting ready to send our youngest to the Junior Prom.
Vic - Have I told you all about my former students who had NF?
jeanne/ece/tx - Getting ready for JR Prom already? WOW!
Grace/IL - I think schools have to have 180 teaching days. It runs to about 186 days including institute days. I'm retired so I'm a little out of the loop.
jeanne/ece/tx - One of my assistants asked me where we were in the marking period today ... 4 weeks to report cards!
Paulie - JR prom for Valentine's day?
Grace/IL - Casimir Pulaski was a Polish general who helped Washington in the battle for independence. There are a lot of Polish people in Chicago so IL made it a holiday.
Paulie - sounds like a good reason for a holiday
Paulie - thansk for the info
Paulie - thanks too
AP - We have Records Day this Friday and report cards are to go home on Monday 1/27.
Mauce - Jr Prom is in January - this Friday on records day. Senior Prom and All-night Party is in June.
Paulie - o
jeanne/ece/tx - AP, where are you? We had our Records Day on 1/6!
Grace/IL - Mauce, where are you. I think we had a junior prom and a senior ball when I was in high school.
AP - Michigan
Mauce - Our report cards are due next Wednesday.
Vic - Goodnight all, I was hoping to talk about my little 9 year old student who had a stroke, but everyone is involved in other discussions. Good night all.
jeanne/ece/tx - Where, AP?
Mauce - Thanks for info on Casimir Pulaski. I have heard his name but didn't know who he was.
Grace/IL - Gee, Vic, you didn't tell us. We'd have jumped right on it.
AP - Lansing
jeanne/ece/tx - I grew up in Port Huron ... ahve been to Lansing more than once!![]()
AP - How did you end up in Texas?
Mauce - I live just south of Port Huron and go through Lansing every time I go to see my son at Western Mich. I went to MSU so we make a stop to eat in E. Lansing.
Paulie - It is too bad that Vic did not understand they can talk about tahat too hope they will come back another time
Grace/IL - Ooh, a bunch of Michiganders here! I was in Port Huron eons ago.
Julie - Hello everyone, I am a non-traditional student who is attending Eastern Kentucky University. I have an assignment to have online interview with a teacher. 4 questions, can anyone help?
Mauce - What brought you to PH, Grace?
Paulie - we can try Julie
Grace/IL - Also went under the Blue Water Bridge in late Sept., 2001, when we cruised the Great Lakes.
AP - Questions? Hmmm. Maybe.
Grace/IL - Well, as I remember, I was in a college choir and we gave a concert at a church in Port Huron -- probably before you were on this earth.
Julie - 1)What were your major concerns during your first year of teacher. 2)What type of support and by whom was most helpful? 3)What things became easier as you gained experience? What advice would give me as a prospective teacher?
jeanne/ece/tx - How did I land in TX? Born here ... parents returned to here ... I got a teaching job here! (((I applied for over 300 jobs in the Port Huron area ... never got ONE interview! Hired following first interview in TX!!!)))
AP - My GM volunteer wants to retire in Texas. He hates MI weather.
jeanne/ece/tx - I'm with him, AP!
Paulie - major concern: not enough materials to use for teaching Had to buy lots of my own stuff just for basics
Paulie - always good to have a mentor teacher at same gr level if possible
Paulie - daily lesson plans writing becomes easier
Mauce - Major concern my 1st year was keeping up with everything in all subjects (I taught 6th grade), knowing about each student, and learning how to live on my own many miles away from my family.
Paulie - as a prospective teacher I would say don't plan to get rich, not everyone has your high ideals for students but keep them anyway; start gathering books NOW -- especially if you are a elem teacher; join groups at T net
Mauce - What was the next question? I can't think or type as fast as the text is moving!
jeanne/ece/tx - http://www.eslcafe.com/
AP - I didn't have any major concerns. I taught in a Catholic school and had virtually no problems.
Paulie - did I answer all 4?
Julie - What type of support & by whom was most helpful?
Julie - Yes, very helpful. Thank you.
Mauce - I was at a building that was an overflow building. All except two on the staff were new teachers. We leaned on each other for support, ideas, and materials.
Paulie - when I started teaching I was not on the internet and did not have teacher resources like they have a T net join mailrings for gr level at, below, and one above what u hope to teach
AP - Julie..New teachers in our district are now assigned a mentor.
Paulie - but a mentor that is not at your gr level and is still teaching is not a lot of help
Julie - Thanks for all the help--have a good evening
Grace/IL - OG involves listening, speaking, saying, and writing, all at the same time whenever possible.
Grace/IL - OG stands for Orton-Gillingham multisensory methods of instruction
Grace/IL - OG also involves very carefully sequenced instruction so children build on what they've learned previously.
Paulie - aren't speaking and saying the same thing?
jeanne/ece/tx - http://www.ortonacademy.org/ has information on OG, Paulie -- I saw just bits and pieces employed where I was in MI! Seemed like it was quite effective in practice
jeanne/ece/tx - OG - a method of working with and helping children learn to read/write ... Orton Gillingham ... multi-sensory approach
Paulie - thanks Meeha -- will check that out later
Grace/IL - OG came long before people started talking about multiple intelligences. Oops, my brain isn't working -- what's the 4th sense, AP. I know it as well as I know my name but I've blocked.
jeanne/ece/tx - Grace -- is that the kinesthetic intelligence?
Grace/IL - It involves kinesthetic/tactile experiences.
AP - Yes. See, hear, say, and write
jeanne/ece/tx - (I just started the book yesterday ...)
Paulie - so how do the students understand then?
Grace/IL - Kinesthetic/tactile can involve thinking about how the mouth forms sounds as well as tracing on texture and writing in air.
Grace/IL - What book did you start, jeanne?
Paulie - I think I learned that way to see, hear say and write I mean
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina, how are you doing this evening? It is getting cool here (again) in Arlington!
jeanne/ece/tx - Grace -- Multiple Intelligences
AP - You should see me trying to converse with my three students from Mexico. They think I'm funny. Thank goodness for my GM volunteer. He helps translate.
Grace/IL - I wondered about that. Do you have lots of people helping in the schools for that reason?
AP - They are spread out in needy school around the area.
Tina/TX/PK - Just curious! What do you do with your kids when it's that cold? Do they go outside?
AP - No. Our poor kids stay in and watch a video
Mauce - We havaen't allowed them to play outside for days. It's too cold.
Paulie - Mauce then I would have them do at least ten minutes of exercises
Mauce - We get a lot of cold air off Lake Huron.
Grace/IL - I think we kept kiddos inside if the wind chill was below 20 degrees. Our playground was an open field with no protection at all.
AP - Well, it's been fun chatting. Thanks Grace for encouraging me to try this. Good night everyone!
jeanne/ece/tx - AP -- have a wonderful week ... hope to see you again next week!
Grace/IL - Good night, AP. I think I'm heading out, too.
Tina/TX/PK - Gosh, my kids would freak...they can't handle 50 degree or below with out complaining of the cold
Mauce - We did an experinment on Friday with the thermometer. Will the red line go up or down when we put it outside? Everyone made a prediction then I put it outside our door. When I went to get it, it was broken. the wind caught it and threw it on the cement.
jeanne/ece/tx - LOL, Mauce! So, what was the decision ... did it go up or down?
Tina/TX/PK - Oh no! Don't you hate it when things like that happen
Mauce - Up and then down, with a splat! lol
Paulie - can u get another one to do and tape it this time?
Tina/TX/PK - I guess it went down...to the ground that is
jeanne/ece/tx - It was a lesson in a different scientific principle ... gravity (what goes up must come down!) maybe "incidental teaching"!
Paulie - did u guys print any printables from Tnet?
Tina/TX/PK - There you go Jeanne
Mauce - Lucky for me the other Kdg teacher has the same huge classroom thermometer. We did it again yesterday. this time I put it where the wind didn't get it.
Tina/TX/PK - Not yet... I've got ot do that tonight
jeanne/ece/tx - Paulie -- I"ve used the turkey and the g-bread man ... will likely use the bear later this month
Paulie - I finally printed one calendar it is one page with every month on it I have printed other stuff for files but did not print calendars til today cause I thought I ahd no need for a mo one this year lol
Paulie - the bear is cute huh?
Mauce - The best part - I found the same thermometer in the childcraft catalog -- on sale!! $16.99 and the principal said she would buy me another! All's well that end's well.
jeanne/ece/tx - He'll fit the polar bear theme we're on now.
Paulie - Mauce so what were the results did the kids guess right or not?
Tina/TX/PK - Yes I love the bear...I thought we would use that with our five senses unit
Paulie - o that is great Mauce
Tina/TX/PK - What a nice princple
Tina/TX/PK - OOPs! I guess pisces are bad typer too!
Paulie - actually it is a principal pal at the end is how to remember how to spell it
Paulie - the 100th day of school (jan Brett) tnet picture is great too
Tina/TX/PK - And bad spellers!
Mauce - You pisces Tina? me too.
Tina/TX/PK - I haven't seen that yet...guess I better check it out
Tina/TX/PK - Yep! March 19th
Paulie - I did not like the numbers on the Christmas book
Mauce - Feb 24
Paulie - but I printed it anyway cause I can white out the page numbers and place the pages how I want
Tina/TX/PK - My anniversary!
jeanne/ece/tx - I need to remember to check out calendars here before I go and create my next one!
Tina/TX/PK - Me too! I have a bad time with calendars
Paulie - create?
jeanne/ece/tx - (So far this year it seems I'm a firm believer in recreating the wheel every month!)
Paulie - Feb 24 is an anniversary of mine too -- my divorce final lol
Mauce - Congrats, Tina! How many?
jeanne/ece/tx - I build a calendar from a spreadsheet every month ... need to buy me the new Publisher along with OFFICE suite!
Paulie - Tnet has 4 different kinds of calendars depending on what u want to use them for
Tina/TX/PK - Oh...well crongrats or I'm sorry...which ever applies!
Paulie - gosh jeanne that is alredy done for u at Tnet
jeanne/ece/tx - Paulie -- "old habits die hard"!
Paulie - don't be sorry here was supposed to be on Feb 14th but he did not show up lol
Tina/TX/PK - I use Word, and make a calendar using a table...but I never seem to have enough room
Paulie - I know meeha but it si good to develop new ones too
Paulie - Someone sent me a PM and I missed it
Tina/TX/PK - 15 years now!!!! Seems like forever!
Paulie - send again and I will watch for it
jeanne/ece/tx - Same here, Tina! Getting better ... mastering new little skills, but still not where I want it to be! Always glad to find an easy way to the goal!
Paulie - my anniversary of that date (hehe) will be 25 years in Feb
Tina/TX/PK - I've never been able to venture into spreadsheets! Seem intimidating
Paulie - I lied I forgot to look for PM
Tina/TX/PK - What is a PM
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina -- actually I use the "Table" in Word ... it just acts like a spread sheet
Paulie - private message, Tina
jeanne/ece/tx - our local library has (had?) a grant from the Gates foundation ... taught lots of classes on computer technology ... I learned a lot from them.
Paulie - see at the bottom where it says send to room u can also send to someone privately instead of whole board
Tina/TX/PK - Ok...Guess I have to get used to the lingo! LOL
Tina/TX/PK - Oh...ok! Thanks for that!!! You learn something new each day!
Paulie - long as someone doesn't say PMS -- then that is a whole different thing
Paulie -
Paulie - wish we could make the grinning smiley in here like in the chat room
Tina/TX/PK - Have any of you ever applied for a grant?
Mauce - I need to take a class, most of what I know is "learn by doing".
jeanne/ece/tx - I need to excuse myself for a minute ... reboot my 'puter. be back soon!
Paulie - yes I got a grant for a garden in every school
Paulie - we got a garden box for each grade level, dirt, soem plants and garden tools
Mauce - I had a grant from my district to set up my bookbag library.
Paulie - that was in so CA
Tina/TX/PK - When you apply, do you do it for in your name or the school...I know nothing about grants but have been hearing a great deal about them from others
Paulie - lucky u Mauce I did that all at my own expense
Paulie - some grants can be for you , some are for whole school They particularly like ones for more than one class
Mauce - The money ran out before I had everything I needed. thank goodness for Scholastic and bonus points!
Paulie - but if I got a grant for something I was doing in school and it was something that could move with me if I got transferred I would not do it in the name of the school or it would have to remain there
Tina/TX/PK - Ok...excuse my stupidity, but I work in a private not public school...it is for profit...can I still apply
Paulie - I would think so
Mauce - I'm not sure, Tina. Most grants give directions or list someone who you could ask.
Paulie - what do u want a grant for?
Tina/TX/PK - Wher do I start
Paulie - (and u are not stupid -- we all are forever learners) or we are dead!
Tina/TX/PK - Playground equipment mostly
Paulie - depends on what u want
Tina/TX/PK - True!!!!!
Paulie - well I don't know about that kind of a grant I would look at a teachers supply store for a good book about grants OR look in a google.com search for ideas
Tina/TX/PK - What my worry is that my employers will not want to due to taxes or suchj...does that apply?
Paulie - why can't your PTA get the equipment?
Paulie - I have no idea Tina each grant is separate in itself
Tina/TX/PK - We have no PTA....My parents are NOT INVOVLED AT ALL... unforunately...we re lucky if we get recycables from them.
Tina/TX/PK - I thought about pennies for our playground fundraiser
Paulie - Tina I would post on the main Tnet chatboard for teachers and ask about grants -- maybe even post on the administrator's board and the private school board You will usually get lots of answers/help
Paulie - would take a lot of pennies
Tina/TX/PK - Good idea!!!!
Tina/TX/PK - Exactly!!!!!
Paulie - Mauce u desert us too?
Mauce - Is your school sponsored by a company, etc. Who is the "for profit" in your school? Can they help?
Tina/TX/PK - I would also like a laminater and a die cut machine. we probably spend 2000 a year in takiing out laminating to the local school supply
Mauce - I'm here, just typing slow -- like molasses in January lol
Tina/TX/PK - Welll, I have tried to talk to them about upgrading but they always say the same thing...we just don't have the money right now
Mauce - Isn't there a chatboard about grants? Look and see.
Paulie - well u have to give really good reasons to ahve those kind of things for a grant they don't just need it because it costs teachers money u have to write a proposal hwo it helps the kids and the teachers
Tina/TX/PK - Ok...I will. Thanks Mauce
Paulie - some of those boards people never visit and it takes forever to get an answer Mauce
Tina/TX/PK - There are so many thing I think we would benefit from, My list is long!
Paulie - yes but u got to tell several reasons why beneficial they don't give u grants jsut cause you "need" it
Tina/TX/PK - A lot of them I buy on my own...or make if possible
Mauce - Tie it into as many things that make the school look good as possible -- the more reasons you have for needing it, the harder it is to say no.
Tina/TX/PK - Yes...well, I could use safety on the playground
Paulie - Tina that is only one reason to have the item u got to be creative and think of more
Paulie - more than safety
Tina/TX/PK - Maybe I'll win the lottery
Paulie - need to include about physical movement for students and using big muscles and stuff liek that that benefits kids
Tina/TX/PK - Yes! We are down to 5 trikes...how sad
Paulie - I always thought I might win the lottery -- never did . . . . my sister said I ahve to buy a ticket first!
Mauce - Exercise, improves the looks of the schoolgrounds, movement enhanses learning, etc....
Paulie - wb Meeha
Mauce - welcome back Jeanne
Tina/TX/PK - Yes...that helps!
Paulie -
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina -- NO trikes for my kiddos
jeanne/ece/tx - we don't even have an assigend time on the playground!
Tina/TX/PK - How come?
Paulie - I would also look into if a parent can build it
Tina/TX/PK - Yikes! i would pull my hair out!
Paulie - because that would make it parent invlovement for the grant
jeanne/ece/tx - too many kids, not enough time ... 10 kids on the playground doesn't make sense to big campus administrators.
Paulie - and the people who give grants look for co,mmunity involvement
Tina/TX/PK - Well, that's my next venture ...beyond a grant...getting parent and husband volunteers
Tina/TX/PK - Oh my....More the reason....they need that...i just found some article on the link betweenlarge and small motor skilss...great to prove a point
Paulie - nono the parents and volunteers need ot be a part of writing the grant u need to include as many people as possible U might even try Home Depot and see if they would give u a grant
jeanne/ece/tx - we do LOTS of music & movement in my classroom ... at times my assistants will take some of the kiddos out with Kinder (but it is hard for some of mine to be safe w/ith kinder kids)
Paulie - Yes the motor skills I was trying to tell u before
jeanne/ece/tx - we also do a lot of "obstacle course" type work in my classroom ... work on language skills, visual perception, etc.
Mauce - Can't you go out when another class is out? We sometimes have 3-4 classes out at a time.
Tina/TX/PK - What age Jeannne
Mauce - e no set time
Tina/TX/PK - Dr. Jean is great for movemnet...My kids love her!
Mauce - I meant - We have no set time
Paulie - <==== K had their own play yard
jeanne/ece/tx - about the smallest group on the playground is 120! We have a BIG school ... I have PPCD (3 - 6 years old) ...
jeanne/ece/tx - one playground, 1000 kids!
Tina/TX/PK - YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!
Paulie - Meeha Tina needs help getting and writing grant for playground equip and other things
jeanne/ece/tx - TIna -- where are you in TX?
Paulie - any good resources for her?
Tina/TX/PK - I have a set time...right before luch...It's great!
Tina/TX/PK - Houston
jeanne/ece/tx - UT- Austin had a class (I think the prof's name was Frost) that designed playgrounds around Texas ... great work they did in designing and assembling them!
Tina/TX/PK - We found a playground we would like to model after...all made of wood and tires, chain and rope...but getting the materials is the problem
Tina/TX/PK - We have the tires...donated by a truck shop, the wood is the most expensive
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina -- wood isn't really a good material ... rots SO fast! same with rope ... alternatives?
jeanne/ece/tx - tires are all POLYESTER BELT? You don't want steel belted radials!
Tina/TX/PK - I don't know....Little Tikes and such are sooooo expensive
Mauce - We had one made of wood, chains, and tires. Watch out for splinters! Ours had to be dismantled. Now we have plastic. It lasts much longer.
Tina/TX/PK - Alll polyester...we checked for that
Paulie - check out Home Depot for wood and screws/bolts they might have a grant
jeanne/ece/tx - I"ve just read about kiddos being severely injured or killed with wooden structures that rotted without being recognized as unsafe.
Tina/TX/PK - Guess I need to re think this... you've made some good points. If I get this going I don't want to have to replace it in a couple of years
Paulie - and don't forget what is under the equipment has to be ok for falls
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina -- check with a high school or jr. college wood working or construction - type class ... free labor .....
Tina/TX/PK - Yes! I have thought of that
Mauce - Beware of treated wood, also. Some of it can be hazardous, poisonous.
Paulie - is made of polyester? did I misss soemthing?
Tina/TX/PK - I would really like to seperate the the youngers from the olders
Tina/TX/PK - Polyester tires
Mauce - hi, rose!
Paulie - Meeha not only free labor but it also invloves the community -- something else the grant people look for
Paulie - o
jeanne/ece/tx - Paulie -- the tires need to be ONLY polyester belted ... s teel belteds can scratch kids up, give metal splinters
Tina/TX/PK - Ok...so how about a laminater...wish I could find someone to give me one
Mauce - We have two playgrounds, one for K-2, the other for 3-5
Paulie - oic
jeanne/ece/tx - I don't take my munchkins out on the playground often, really feel it isn't fair to the big kids to have to always watch for the little ones ... and often they just plain won't look for little ones!
Paulie - usually a laminator is not a necessity so probably can't get that on a grant I would go for the penny fundraiser or a rummage sale or soem, thing
Tina/TX/PK - This is true. Too busy running
Paulie - but the die cut could work well if you listed the many uses for it and not just convenience and money teachers ahve to put out to do elsewhere
Tina/TX/PK - I thought about contacting the school districts in the area...Do you think they sell their used items when they replace
Paulie - sure all schools ahve auctions
Paulie - nk u will find a good die cut that way or a laminator unless a hand press laminator from years ago Now they are all self moving ones on a roll
Tina/TX/PK - Maybe that will be my first step then
jeanne/ece/tx - hand press laminator is almost more what I'd like to see ... too often the rollers just don't seal!
jeanne/ece/tx - (((But it is tough to get the flat ones to start out well, too!)))
Mauce - Get a new laminator. They wear out and that's why schools get new ones.
Tina/TX/PK - That's true...I've paid for toomuch laminating that is not sealed.
jeanne/ece/tx - I would agree with Mauce!
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina -- does your school have an active PTA or PTO?
Mauce - We just got a new one. The old one didn't heat the film properly so it didn't stick right.
Tina/TX/PK - But you figure at 80 cents a foot ....We spend a mint in laminating alone
Tina/TX/PK - No...unforunatly not even parent participation
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina -- do you go to a c hurch in Houston? Where I worship I can laminate for about 25 cents a foot!
jeanne/ece/tx - same price at Mardels!
Mauce - The new one has a plastic guard across it that keeps fingers out and heat in. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is "energy efficient" and goes into sleep more when not being used so you think it is ready but it isn't.
Tina/TX/PK - We used to have a church who did that years ago but they said it was not cost effective anymore
jeanne/ece/tx - Is there a MARDELS in your area?
Tina/TX/PK - We even had a public school who was doing it for a while. Said we paid for it in taxes...until the board found out
jeanne/ece/tx - oh, are you a private preschool?
Tina/TX/PK - Yes
Mauce - If you ever have laminating that doesn't seal go over it with an iron. Use a low setting. THat's the only "ironing" I ever get done, the clothes will have to wait!
Tina/TX/PK - LOL~
Paulie - there are cold laminators too but it makes it real thick nice for soem things
Paulie - laminate at church? wow
Paulie - lol Mauce I lvoe to iron clothes
Paulie - love
jeanne/ece/tx - Paulie -- we have a large congregation, very busy education program!
Tina/TX/PK - Yuck...Wash and wear. That's my rule
Paulie - am cooking dinner -- forgot it was Tuies nite brb got o check my spaghetti
Mauce - Also, save the ends of laminating film. Places that charge you to use their machine will toss the almost empty rolls. You can cut it, fold it over small things, and iron it. It is a bit of a hassle but it isfree film.
jeanne/ece/tx - My mother's rule: "Respect thine perma-press!"
Mauce - Paulie, do you make housecalls?
jeanne/ece/tx - I need a housekeeper ... ironing clothes can wait!
Tina/TX/PK - Bravo Jeanne!
Tina/TX/PK - I used the ends for overhead projector projects
jeanne/ece/tx - Okay ... did we all fall asleep at the same time?
Mauce - brb - kids need me
Paulie - nope u have to bring me your irong and while you are at it bring me some snow too!
Paulie - <========was checking my spaghetti
jeanne/ece/tx - we put the ends of laminated plastic through a shredder and made "rain" for clouds last year ... streamers for something in the fall ... windows in some art project we did!
Tina/TX/PK - Ha! That's great!!!!
jeanne/ece/tx - spaghetti sounds good, but pasta makes my blood sugar soar!
Tina/TX/PK - This month we are doing space...today we made our own planets, using shaving cream mixed with glue as the surface
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina -- I LOVE our space unit ... we'll do that after spring break!
jeanne/ece/tx - We make rockets, comets, shooting stars, planets, stars ... I hang black*purple*blue nylon netting from the ceiling and we hang many of our projects from the netting! It looks SOOOO cool in the classroom!
Tina/TX/PK - My kids are so excited about it
Paulie - II have to tell u about this neat thing I found at grocery store yesterday It is ice cream shaped crayons
Paulie - by Popsicle brand
jeanne/ece/tx - sounds cute, Pualie!
Paulie - It is called "Scribblers"
Tina/TX/PK - Everyday they tell me they saw the moon. and we watched the shuttle launch on Thursday
jeanne/ece/tx - I'll keep my eyes peeled for them ... my kiddos will probably enjoy them!
Paulie - they come in strawberry, chocolate an vanilla flavors but two kind of those to a crayon and dipped the tip in chocolate they are on a stick
Paulie - and the stick has riddles ont hem too
Tina/TX/PK - Yes! My Own kids at home love them...beg for them everytime
Paulie - 18 to a box
jeanne/ece/tx - Be sure you read Frank Asch's MOONCAKE and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOON!
Paulie - jsut the right size for a small treat
Tina/TX/PK - Yes....we have....going to read Sun up Sun down tomorrow
Tina/TX/PK - Make tissue paper suns
jeanne/ece/tx - Do you have the Planet sont?
jeanne/ece/tx - (The Family of the Sun)
Tina/TX/PK - No
Paulie - I made an ocean ahnging from the ceiling one time with strips of blue cellophane hanging down and on top I ahd white netting for the waves and a whale on the top coming out of the surf
Tina/TX/PK - Oceans comming up in March... I can't wait to try that
Paulie - ok sorry I see u r on another topic going to get my spaghetti I threw soem against the wall and it stuck so the pasta is done brb
Tina/TX/PK - LOL....Paulie you are a hoot!
jeanne/ece/tx - http://www.si.edu/resource/faq/nmah/planets.htm has the words ... tune is The Farmer in the Dell ... my kiddos learn the 9 planets and a couple of facts about each in the song!
Tina/TX/PK - Mauce...still there?
Tina/TX/PK - I have a play that is about the planet...but I made cards with the saying for each planet and hung them underneath each one.
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina -- I have it all printed out on a song card (poster board) ... with cute illustrations I "stole" from another teacher (traced and recreated) several years ago!
jeanne/ece/tx - we do a "Space walk" ... kids make space suits from trash bags, helmets from millk jugs ...
Tina/TX/PK - Gonna be a long night!
Paulie - ===back with spaghetti
jeanne/ece/tx - what's up, Tina?
Tina/TX/PK - Yes...sone the milk jug helmet...tried the sponge space boots but it didn't work too well
Tina/TX/PK - Gotta get that stuff off that sight you gave me
jeanne/ece/tx - hadn't heard of sponge space boots!
Paulie - bak don't u test pasta that way?
Tina/TX/PK - I'm ready to use it tomorrow
jeanne/ece/tx - NOOOOOO (I don't!)
Tina/TX/PK - No...I might start
Paulie - well u should try it if it falls off wall it needs to cook more
jeanne/ece/tx - I've heard that!
Paulie - have to be thick sponges for boots or would not work well would they?
Tina/TX/PK - Get large sponges...like you wash cars with nd tie them around their shoes...they kept falling though
Tina/TX/PK - Thanks! I'll try that next time I make spaghetti
Tina/TX/PK -
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina -- don't forget the "Mr. Sun" song!
Paulie - for the price of those sponges u will use only once u could buy a laminator
Tina/TX/PK - Oh yes! I did forget
jeanne/ece/tx - Oh, yes ... and One Light, One Sun ...
Tina/TX/PK - LOL Your not kidding!
jeanne/ece/tx - How the Sun and Moon Came to Live in the Sky ...
Tina/TX/PK - Ya'll have made my night!
Tina/TX/PK - Is that a book Jeanne
jeanne/ece/tx - yes ... a legend (sorry, can't remember where it originated ... don't see it in my library, though.)
Paulie - <===have some of those legend books but not that one
Tina/TX/PK - I'll have to do a search
Paulie - trying to think of the story where the animals think the . . . becasue it got dark now I can't even remember the premise
jeanne/ece/tx - I know I have it ... can see the picture on the cover in my mind!
Mauce - I'm back! I have that book. I think it is from Africa but I haven't read it in awhile.
Tina/TX/PK - Not to change the subject but I have one more question for you
jeanne/ece/tx - what's that, Tina?
Paulie - <=== I charge for answers never get paid but I charge
Tina/TX/PK - Have either of your heard of Victoria Smith from Kinderkorner?
jeanne/ece/tx - I"m not sure ...
Paulie - yes I know of her I don't really think she is that terrific
Tina/TX/PK - Well, I was just wondering cuz she is coming to Houston in March...and charges 149 for her workshop...isn't that a bit much
milymo - Most workshops around here I've seen charge between 119 and 139.
Tina/TX/PK - Wow! I just can't see paying that much
jeanne/ece/tx - It seems about in-line with the workshops and seminars I see advertised.
Tina/TX/PK - I freak over 50...guess I'm a cheapskate
milymo - Our district pays for a workshop every now and then for us.
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina, I don't normally pay it ... wait for locals to come my way. One I WILL pay for is Frog Street Press' annual Splash in Dallas ... it is pricey, but good!
Tina/TX/PK - Mine will but not that much
Mauce - I must be cheap too. I get the district to pay if possible.
Tina/TX/PK - Lasting lessons is good as well, usually only 25 here
jeanne/ece/tx - "locals" are sponsored by our local district ... I c an go for free!
Paulie - ok the legend I was talking about is called Mancrow's Feather and it is a legend from jamaica is a story of how a mean bird took the dun away and it was always dark and nothing could grow
milymo - Haven't tried to get them to pay for anything this year... budget problems.
Tina/TX/PK - You figue though, if 100 people attend that 15,000 dollars
Tina/TX/PK - I'm in the wring business
Paulie - sorta ties in with stydying about sun
Tina/TX/PK - I'm going to search for legends.
milymo - Teaching teachers is where the money is?!?!?
jeanne/ece/tx - I've not been known to figure that way, Tina -- but interesting idea!
jeanne/ece/tx - The places the meetings are held are quite pricey ... and then there's the sound equip ... travel ... hand outs ... advertising ... .... ....
Tina/TX/PK - I guess, but they must know that teachers are very underpaid
Paulie - my legend books are by Janet Palazzo-Craig so you might try her name in Google.com too
jeanne/ece/tx - mily -- teaching teachers ... professional organizations (like CEC, CCBD...)
jeanne/ece/tx - insane, isn't it?
Tina/TX/PK - Yes!
milymo - We are going on our second week of indoor recess. My kiddos need to go out and run!!!
Tina/TX/PK - Ok...I'm writing it down now
Paulie - I went to a lot of workshops taught by other teachers in our district. The teachers got paid a sm fee and supplies and thei sgrant bought handouts like books and good stuff for all who attended It was from Eisenhower funds
Mauce - Why, Mily? Are you in the deepfreeze too? We haven't been out lately either.
jeanne/ece/tx - mily ... think about obstacle course in the classroom ... over, under, between, through, between ... put some hoops on the floor to jump between, etc.
Tina/TX/PK - I've taught several workshop just within our school...No extra pay...not even traing hours
milymo - Two years ago, I taught a one hour course to other teachers in the district.
Tina/TX/PK - We stayed out for a hour today...warm and sunny
Tina/TX/PK - Sorry , had to make you jealous
milymo - Yes... single digits at night... about 18 during the day.
jeanne/ece/tx - You gotta stay out while you can this time of year, here!
Tina/TX/PK -
jeanne/ece/tx - morning was nice here ... afternoon got to be rather brisk!
milymo - You succeeded in making me jealous!!!
milymo - What do you consider brisk in Texas?
Mauce - Where are you, Milly?
jeanne/ece/tx - mily -- it was probably in the 40's ... lots of wind ... I'm now officially a thin-blooded creature! (But I still won't wear a coat!)
milymo - Between Cleveland and Akron in Ohio.
Mauce - We are in single digets in Michigan and below zero with the windchill
milymo - That's cold, but real cold is when the inside of your nose freezes when you go out!
jeanne/ece/tx - Mauce and Mily -- Brrrrr!
milymo - I heard that Lake Erie has frozen over - the first time in several years!
Mauce - It's when you put pop in the frig to keep it from freezing outside.
jeanne/ece/tx - My brother told my father the St. Clair River froze straight across! WOW!
milymo - Yes! I left a couple cans in my car over the weekend. I had the one thawing on my desk today.
jeanne/ece/tx - mily -- the other one kind of exploded?
jeanne/ece/tx - Tina -- we lost you?
Paulie - You are lucky it did not explode and make a mess all over your car
milymo - What activities do you do when you are evaluating students one-on- one?
Tina Tx/Pk - Had can that be?
milymo - That's true Paulie. The other one I had to defrost at my nephew's BD party.
Mauce - I haven't seen a freighter go by lately but there was an ice fisherman who went through the ice on Anchor Bay.
Paulie - I have had to log on up to 4 times before I was Paulie and paulie 2 and Paulie3 and Paulie 4
jeanne/ece/tx - the appearance of your name is different -- on is TX/PK, the other is Tx/Pk!
Tina Tx/Pk - Hmmm. Ok well it's me.
Paulie - sometimes you can click on the Green "G" to the left and then click on the board and it will start ok
jeanne/ece/tx - Mauce -- did he live to tell about it?
Tina Tx/Pk - Milymo, waht are you evaluating...something specific or just general stuff
milymo - Just general stuff - letters, numbers, patterns, etc.
Mauce - Milymo, I do Letter and Sound ID, Numeral ID, counting by ones, address, phone number, etc.
Paulie - I have this little ring of colored papers I laminated and test their color knowledge with that
Tina Tx/Pk - I have a box, of stuff that is called the one person box. Who ever I paln to evaluate get to play with it. I change it oue periodically.
jeanne/ece/tx - I hate to do this, but I've got a meeting after school tomorrow ..... and have to pull all my paperwork together ... I"m going to have to say goodnight and I'll see you all again next week. Take care, all.
Mauce - The fisherman got "fished" out of the bay by a young man from Marine City. He was very lucky.
Paulie - I show them numbers and have them tell me what is what not numbers in a line they memorized. . .
milymo - Oops! I mean, what are the other students doing?
Paulie - bye meeha
milymo - Bye jeanne!
Mauce - bye, Jeanne, see you next week
Tina Tx/Pk - I see what they do on their own and then sit with them doing activities
Paulie - regular centers while I am "testing"
Tina Tx/Pk - Goodnight Jeanne. Thanks for your help!
Tina Tx/Pk - Mine as well.
Tina Tx/Pk - Well, folks I gotta go to. Early day tomorrow! Thanks for all your help! And thanks for making me laugh Paulie! I love to laugh!
Tina Tx/Pk - Try to be back next week
Tina Tx/Pk - I will look forward to it!!!!!!
Mauce - I do centers, sometimes resort to worksheets if it is something that I can use to evaluate and sometimes I give them "busywork" if I am really pressed.
Mauce - When I am lucky I have a college student who comes and plays Bingo with them
Paulie - because of standards we ahd to test our kids on these things for a book too
Mauce - bye Tina, see you next week
milymo - I am going to be having a student teacher come for a practicum experience beginning next week.
Paulie - front, back, what is on title page, who writes a book(author) who draws pictures (illustrator) with your finger show how you read the words on page (left to write and top to borrom)
Paulie - wow how neat milymo
milymo - Too bad report cards go out at the end of this week!
Mauce - I've got to go. Bye all, see you next week!
milymo - Bye Mauce!
Paulie - nite Mauce
milymo - It's amazing what they are expected to know now!
Paulie - let us know how she is working out milymo
Paulie - w did you get to be a mentor teacher?
milymo - How?
Paulie - sorry yes How
Paulie - I was afraid u were leaving too and typed too fast
milymo - My principal asked and I said yes... Another teacher who is only on her fourth year of teaching is getting her second student teacher this year.
Paulie - wow
Paulie - was just surprised cause you just changed to K this year so did not know you could do it
Paulie - I am not talking ability
milymo - I guess so... I did have kindergarten my very first year of teaching.
Paulie - I am talking about length of time teaching to be a mentor I think it is great for u
Paulie - oic
Paulie - well you will do well I know
milymo - I know I'm not ready to have a regular student teacher.
Paulie - this student teacher is not regular?????huh?
milymo - It's not the student teaching part, just a practicum. She will only come 2 days a week throughout her semester.
Paulie - my student teaching for a semester was called a practicum
milymo - Maybe I should have said "Full Time"
Paulie - the other was called "bit teaching"
Paulie - I did that for several teachers
Paulie - and gr levels
Paulie - well no matter . . . hope she has a great experience and the kids enjoy it too
milymo - That's a good name for it! My "bit teachings" actually went better than my student teaching. I sure did learn a lot though.
milymo - I learned even more when I did day care.
Paulie - I lvoed bit teachings becaue you got to work with different gr levels and see how many teachers worked
milymo - I loved my kindergarten experiences!
Paulie - I never worked in K til I was employed
Paulie - during college years I eman
Paulie - I did work as an aide in K for summer K when I was young
Paulie - I thought I would ahte teaching K student taught in 5th gr
Paulie - but I found I loved K
milymo - I did quite a bit in college with kinders. I think fourth is as high as I went on the upper end.
milymo - I thought I would be a kinder teacher for a long time... until I got my job in 2nd.
Paulie - I wanted to do 4th gr practicum but my daughter's 6th gr teaher told me her friend in 5th gr would give me a good experience so went with that and Media center too
Paulie - I lvoe 2nd next
milymo - I will probably stay with kinder for the next couple years.
Paulie - use they are beginning writers and you can develop a love of writing with them
Paulie - that is great wish I could get another K job
Paulie - Well, I guess our three hours are up so I better say goodnight
milymo - Things just did work out this year? I remember when you were talking about your interviews.
milymo - I mean didn't
Paulie - nope didn't get the AZ job
Paulie - we will see
milymo - That's right - I remember you talking about the distance.
Paulie - It is always good to see you here
Paulie - I will go almost anywhere but not to TX, FL or CA again
milymo - Yes! I am trying to come every week now that I know you will be here.
Paulie - test driven states
milymo - Remind me where you are now...
Paulie - Meeha and Mauce come too mauce is JustMeMI u know
Paulie - Washington
milymo - Ohio seems to be going in that direction
Paulie - I want developmental K with all day program
Paulie - and be able to use BB and Kid writing
Paulie - not Open Court
Paulie - well I better get going
milymo - Yes! See you later!
