Check the meeting schedule for future meetings

meeha/ece/tx - Hi! I'm just checking this out ... I think montessori techniques might be very effective in my classroom. Don't presently use the program.
Kathleen - Hi meeha!
meeha/ece/tx - Hi Kathleen! How are you doing?
Kathleen - I'm hoping this first ever Montessori chat will draw at least a couple of Montessori educators. Can you hang out here for a little while?
Kathleen - I'm fine, thanks! Good to see you!
meeha/ece/tx - Sure can... I hope they come, too!
Kathleen - Are Tuesday evenings "free" on your calendar this semester?
meeha/ece/tx - ... and the good news is ... my class (only one!) is on Thursday evenings this semester! I'm done in May!!!!!
Kathleen - Wow, that's good news all around!
Kathleen - I hope you can log on for many of the Tuesday ec meetings, you're a natural host
meeha/ece/tx - provided I keep my studies current and on schedule I'll be in many Tuesday evenings! (YEAH!!!) I've missed the ec meetings.
Montessori Chat - The ec meetings need you!
meeha/ece/tx - This semester I'll be in class at the campus that is just (maybe) 20 miles from my home ... tele-class ... we'll see how that goes!
meeha/ece/tx - Thanks! (I always wonder what to do and "when" to step in ... especially when another host is present -- but it always works out!
Kathleen - They're pretty informal these days, but that's fine. Teachers have enough structure in their lives. Sometimes all it takes is for one person to log on and welcome others, it encourages others to join in.
Kathleen - YOu should contribute articles on ec topics for the Gazette now and then. We need more of that.
meeha/ece/tx - Well, maybae when all this university stuff is done I'll have time enough to breathe, it might be fun if I could figure out what to write! As of today I take on no more commitments than currently on-tap.
Montessori Chat - I'm going to attend to some other things, I'll check back in a while. I'll count on you to greet if anyone logs on.
meeha/ece/tx - I'll stay for a bit and see what happens.
Kathleen - I understand about not taking on any additional commitments. I'll wait.
Kathleen - Okay, see you in a bit maybe. Thanks!
meeha/ece/tx - Hi, Juliette! Welcome to tonite's chat on montessori! This is the first!
Juliette - Hello
Juliette - nice to be here
meeha/ece/tx - Juliette -- the montessori chat started 20 minutes ago -- just Kathleen and I were here until you arrrived. EC chat starts at 9 pm ET.
Kathleen - meeha, click update
Kathleen - We can carry the Montessori chat into the 9-10pm hour.
Kathleen - Montessore, EC and Primary combined, no problem
meeha/ece/tx - sounds good to me!
Kathleen - ok, I'll check in later again.
meeha/ece/tx - I'll be back in a couple of minutes ... need to refill the tea glass!
meeha/ece/tx - Hi Joan -- Welcome to tonite's early childhood chat. We'll be discussing "general interest topics" and maybe a bit of mntessori!
meeha/ece/tx - ... or montessori!
meeha/ece/tx - Joan, do you work with early childhood or primary age children? I work with special needs preschoolers in north-central Texas.
missy - okay time to start talking about other things
meeha/ece/tx - Hi missy! How are you this evening?
missy - okay
meeha/ece/tx - do you teach, missy? shat age group?
meeha/ece/tx - sorry! what age group?
Juliette - Hello
meeha/ece/tx - Hi, Juliette! Sorry I had to back out right as you came in earlier!
missy - , talk about teaching. i will just listen. i am trying to decide if education is for me. i don't think it is
Juliette - I am a Montessori teacher.
Juliette - Nice to meet you.
missy - No offense, but all teacher topics seem boring. i am writing a paper at this minute
meeha/ece/tx - Juliette -- it is nice to meet you! I work with special needs preschoolers, am wondering how effective montessori techniques might be in working with my kiddos.
missy - I am supposed to write about exciting things in current education. So far, i have been bored out of my skull
missy - I am thinking of changing to being a fireman or something exciting
Juliette - Are my messages coming through?
missy - Maybe an emergency worker
missy - No juliette
missy - Hi rooki
Rookie - hello all
Rookie - who is trying to decide to teach?
Juliette - Is this where the Montessori chat will be held?
missy - keep on typing. I am writing this all down for my class at columbia
missy - me
meeha/ece/tx - missy -- sounds like a good idea. as teachers we touch tomorrow ... and help others become who they will be. I can't imagine a more rewarding profession, but if it isn't for you, then it is best not to get started.
meeha/ece/tx - Juliette -- yes, this is the place!
Rookie - I have been teaching for a short time and left a great paying job to teach
missy - Okay talk about teaching
Juliette - Hi Meeha!
Rookie - I believe that it is the best decision of my life
meeha/ece/tx - missy -- this will be in the archives in a couple of days -- then you can just print it off! http://www.teachers.net/archive
missy - okay thanks
Rookie - I teach 7th grade math and enjoy every day of it.
meeha/ece/tx - Hi Rookie! What age group do you work with now? What setting?
Juliette - I feel Montessori is a good approach. Although I am not closed minded about other teaching methodologies
Juliette -
meeha/ece/tx - Juliette, what are the recommended texts or readings for helping on become familiar with the Montessori method of teaching?
Rookie - I can only tell you one thing, The students do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care.
Juliette - Maria Montessori wrote many books.
Juliette - My favorites are The Absorbent Mind and Secret of Childhood
meeha/ece/tx - Rookie, I wish you were my son's math teacher this year!
meeha/ece/tx - Thanks, Juliette!
Juliette - These are two good starting books if you are interested
Rookie - You have to make it fun and interesting.
Juliette - It's also very interesting to go to a few schools in your area and just sit back and observe.
Rookie - Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. This is the worst problem in education today, the resistance to change factor.
Juliette - You can get lots of ideas about how the method works and even pick up some ideas that might work in your class with some students who are difficult to reach via traditional route.
meeha/ece/tx - Juliette -- I might try that this summer, I work 5days a week now (M - F) in the classroom. Summertime is my primary time to revamp, rethink, and rewrite!
Juliette - I agree with your statement about students not caring about how much you know, Rookie.
Rookie - meeha, are there some good sites for teachers that you use or recommend?
meeha/ece/tx - I keep exploring new avenues of education, trying to learn more about what I do so that it can be better done!
Juliette - I know meeha. It really is hard to find some time. Summer would be good, since some Montessori schools go year round.
meeha/ece/tx - Rookie -- this is my favorite site, outside of here most of the sites I know or am familiar with are early childdhood sites, my oldest kiddos turn six during the school year!
meeha/ece/tx - Do you ever check out http://www.pbs.org?
meeha/ece/tx - (oops! no question mark in the addy!)
Rookie - I am searching for some problem of the week or problem solving ideas that are for my level students. It is becoming harder by the moment.
Rookie - thanks for your help and good luck to you all
meeha/ece/tx - Rookie -- check out the middle school and math teacher chat boards here!
Juliette - Well, maybe I will drop by later. Thanks. I am glad that you set up this chat.
meeha/ece/tx - Juliette -- what are you looking for in a chat? how can we meet your needs?
meeha/ece/tx - Hi Alastor. Welcome to the chat !
Alastor - Hi, thanks.
meeha/ece/tx - What do you teach?
Alastor - Lit. 16-18 yr olds.
meeha/ece/tx - I work with special needs preschoolers. 3 - 5 year olds.
Alastor - Writing from Greece. You?
meeha/ece/tx - north-central Texas.
meeha/ece/tx - Are you native to Greece?
Alastor - Yes.
Alastor - Work in an IB school.
meeha/ece/tx - It is nice to meet you! What is an IB school
Alastor - International Baccalaureate. It's an international curriculum. See for yourself at ibo.org.
meeha/ece/tx - sounds interesting -- i'll check it out later!
meeha/ece/tx - welcome back, Missy!
Missy - What does an IB school have to do with ece
Missy - Hi meeha
Alastor - What's ece?
Missy - have you heard of edutest?
Missy - early childhood education
meeha/ece/tx - Missy -- ece is early childhood education. IB isn't related to early childhood, but is education.
Missy - Alastor, i sent you an e mail
meeha/ece/tx - Teachers at different age levels often share and exchange ideas and social communication!
Alastor - As a matter of fact it is. Their curriculum starts at 3.
meeha/ece/tx - I'm definitely going to check it out -- http://www.ibo.org -- right?
Alastor - Right meeha.
Missy - meeha, IB is a great way to go to high school
Missy - They get a special diploma
meeha/ece/tx - why is that, Missy?
Missy - it is very comprehensive and it is like college
meeha/ece/tx - I host foreign exchange students ... have hosted teens from Germany, Japan, Denmark, and (this year) Finland! Great kids coming here!
Missy - meeha, you sound so nice and patient
Missy - If I had little kids, I would want you to be their teacher. I mean that
meeha/ece/tx - Much of the time I am, Missy -- BUT -- ..... thanks, Missy!
meeha/ece/tx - Alastor -- it was nice meeting you, have a wonderful day and an even better tomorrow!
Missy - alastor, you have been very exciting. See you soon
Alastor - Thanks you two. Hope to see you again.
