Kathy - How did you do on your test?
ronni - I have just started this process. I won't test until after Christmas.
Kathy - The portfoilio was easy They told you exactly what they wanted but they weren't very clear about the testing material
Kathy - Good Luck it is a lot of work . I liked working on the portfoilio . It made me a better teacher
ronni - I believe they said just study the standards and the assessment is all about them
Kathy - Their are a lot of standards.
ronni - Have you joined any of the sites pertaining to your area?
Kathy - yes, They helped alittle but I wish nbct would have given us a couple of sample questions
ronni - I know you have tried already the online tutorial
Kathy - yes but that was getting used to the computer
ronni - If you want to give me your email address, if I find any sites thta may be helpful I can send them to you
ronni - You test this Monday?
Kathy - thank you ronni penny3@adelphia.net
Kathy - Yes
ronni - Im sure you will do fine- they said just pay attention to the clock

jodi - sounds like you are getting ready for your test. My area is ea math. what are yours?
Kathy - aya Math
ronni - maybe Jodi can help
jodi - Kathy, have you tested yet?
Kathy - no Monday
Kathy - What's EA Math?
jodi - I tested on June 28 at Appalachian State U. I spent many hours studying but I felt like some of the studenst say, --- the teacher did not ask the right questions.
jodi - EA Math is Early Adolescence math - ages 11 - 15.
Kathy - I am so sick of studying I could just cry
jodi - Ronnie , what is your area?
jodi - Where are each of you from?
Kathy - Were the questions about how you would teach a particular area
Kathy - I live in Hilton Head SC
ronni - I am from Dunn, NC and my area is exceptional needs- severe and multiple disabilities
jodi - That would be good idea to study.
Kathy - How did your taping go Jodi
jodi - I also studied the NCTM standards which are on their website.
Kathy - I thought that it was really hard to show only 15 minutes
Kathy - Thanks I'll go there and look also
jodi - I teach 6th grade math so the assessment center was much more difficult to me than the portfolio
Kathy - This is the first time i have been ever in a chatroom
isube - Hi evryone! Kathy - I am from Charleston, SC right around the corner from you
ronni - I'll be thinking of you Kathy- I'll send you some web sites
Kathy - I hope I do okay I haven't had some of the stuff they are testing Cakcukus ans statistics in 25 years!!
Kathy - I can't spell
Kathy - What is your area isube?
isube - my area is going to be early childhood generalist - I am going through it this year and very much nervous about it!!!
isube - Have you all been through it this year?
Kathy - They give you a good outline on how to set up your portfoilio. They don't give you any hints about the test though
isube - Jodi - did you just finish nationals?
Kathy - I enjoyed working on the portfoilio It made me a better teacher
jodi - I looked up the yahoo website that I used Yahoo!Groups:Early-adol-math and you will get answers to some of your questions about testing
Kathy - Are there 2 jodis or did the color change
isube - A teacher at my school just went through it this past year and she had a very bad experience with it. How was yours?
Kathy - Thanks Jodi
jodi - only one jodi -- I just accidentally logged off when I looked up the yahoo site
Kathy - It was really hard you have to work on it a little each day don't get behind
jodi - I completed the process on June 28. Now the waiting being until Nov. to get the results!
isube - If there is one thing you two could tell me to prepare for this next year, what would it be?
Kathy - Get started early. It will take a day to pack. I wish I would have waited a day or two to mail it I was done about a week early. I found some typos and such. But I just wanted rid of that dreaded box
jodi - I read the "box" materials often so that I was sure to answer each question as clearly as possible. Because the pages are limited for each section, the answers need to be concise, Each time that I read the materials, it seemed that I noticed and understood the questions better.
isube - Was it worth it for you two?
Kathy - I have nightmares thinking I put my whole group video sticker on my small group video
isube - Did you go through it by yourselves?
jodi - Before you take the test, go to the practice computer test that is at the national boards web site.
Kathy - Yes you learn alot and will become a beter teacher
Kathy - I did that. I have decided to write out my answers because of all the math symbols
jodi - The process becomes almost like an obsession until it is done. Kathy, I'm sure that your box is fine!
isube - I thought I could go online to the website and view my portfolio questions. I tried but could not pull them up. Do any of you know how to do that?
isube - I get my box in October, but would like to just read them before hand.
Kathy - It does become an obsession.
Kathy - We weren't able to get ours ahead of time but ours were not online
jodi - You will be given a booklet with graph paper, scrap pieces of paper, with the option to write the explainations by computer
Kathy - There were several other people at my school who certfied but they did not help me.
jodi - I could not find anyone who had worked on national boards in my area, so i was basically on my own also.
jodi - Kathy, good luck on your test Monday, I'm sure that you will do great! What do you teach?
Kathy - i need to go and study some calculus thanks for your help and allowing me to vent. Aftter monday I will be like you a CIW Candidate in waiting
Kathy - I teach Precalulus Geometry and remedial math
jodi - I'll be thinking about you on Monday, Good night!
