ramona - I have not received my box yet... is there any thing that I can work on over the summer to go into the port.
nan - Do you have questions about the portfolio?
ramona - I believe on the assessment test -- they will give you a situtatuion and yu will answer 4 question about the situtation
nan - Well- You could start to think of your accomplishments for the current school year. Remember they need to show partnership with families, you as a learner, and you as a collaborator. That was the hardes part - finding ones that would be appropriate.

nan - Jan the communication log is a good idea to start out for the portfolio. Ramona, date everything and record what is was about and the outcome.

ramona - we visit the fire station--learn fire safety--something on that order
nan - Ramona- you are doing fine. We are hearing from you. Jan- I found questions on a site that had the AC protocol - it was about 44 pages long and I stayed with it to find out the info. I am a MILD MODerate EXN teacher

jan - go to wizzlewolf.com, find iowa practice, different questions but gives you an idea of the experience

nan - Jan- I guess I'm doing the right thing. I have college textbooks, CEC magazine articles. I'm a resource teacher and - well I guess I'm anxious!

jan - YES, they are on the site
jan - behavior, social studies and the arts, math, transition, pe/health, leisure and vocab
nan - jan I am from IL
ramona - I read a scenario about two children at play one was hearing imparired
ramona - and you had to answer 4 question about the play activity
nan - Jan - you would think we could have the vocabulary that they would be asking about. My mentor tested last year and was able to know the questions and bring notes in with her.
ramona - nan- you had to interupt the play and answer the question.

ramona - they have a secton on assessment center prompts

nan - Ramona- In you box you will get a guide book with the assessment portfolio info, questions, direction, Also you get the standards to follow.

steph - What are you focusing on with regard to vocab?
nan - Steph- Are you going through the process right now?
ramona - I read the scenario in the scoring guide in the back----- they score on a rubic? right
steph - Yes. My portfolio is in and I test on June 19
steph - Was that last year's scoring guide, ramona?
ramona - it was an assesmment center prompt
nan - Steph- Vocab that I was talking about refers to special education terminology
ramona - yes, i believe so---Steph
nan - Steph- I think I understand you're question on vocab now- I would think we need to know the current lingo being used at our meetings and such???
steph - I know - I meant what area are you studying the most - law, exceptionalities, etc
nan - Steph- do you feel confident for the test taking at this point. I have been reading and highlighting and my hopes are that the questions will be easy to relate to. How 'bout you?
steph - Are ya'll going through nbpts now?
nan - That is a good question - Is it laws and such - let's see - I have one book that has about six pages of sp. ed. lingo
steph - I am not confident, as such. I am studying what was in the standards book about assessment and have 3 working notebooks crammed full of highlighted info that I am refreshing. I wish we had an Iowa site with prompts in the same format we will be tested in.
ramona - does not each state have different laws
steph - Generally, I think what we would be tested on would be Federal Legislation
ramona - do we have to know the laws in each state?
ramona - based on what one person told me it is more applicaton
nan - Ramona- Another thing that helped me was setting deadlines for completing portfolios- I also has a mentor that actively edited my papers- she asked a lot of good questions that kept me on topic - of course I had to redo paper a lot.
ramona - how do you get a mentor
nan - I agree with federal legislation also, ramona
nan - I went to meetings that had lists of people who passed the test and would mentor candidates. the list was given to all of us at one of our meeting.
