naneb - Hi Brad
naneb - how was your week of inservice??
Glenda 1st TN - Hi Brad. I'm in orange again.
Brad/3 - is everyone out yet?
judy3ca - Happy summer! Last day today!
Glenda 1st TN - Kathy, I'm glad you emailed me. I had forgotten about the chat tongiht.
Brad/3 - boring, boring, boring. One was on 4B. They had barely any experience and no training on it. They ended up looking to me for answers.
judy3ca - Hi, nan, sorry about your principal.
naneb - Your class sounds really wonderful, Judy
Glenda 1st TN - Welcome to summer, judy.
Brad/3 - They were teachers though so very friendly to what teacher's needs are at the inservices.
judy3ca - Hi Kathy--glad you got the Polacco film info. We really liked all 23 minutes of it. My kids were entranced to see her drawing.
naneb - no big deal! I should be used to him by now
kathyb1stia - I am glad I emailed you, too, Glenda!
Brad/3 - judy, i still wasn't able to get your file to come up on mosaicteachers.
naneb - I would love the video, I may have to buy it this year
judy3ca - Thanks, Nan, they were a delightful bunch.
naneb - Judy did you get Firetalking?
Sadie T - Hi Nan Brad Glenda Judy Kathy!
kathyb1stia - I am out, but I taught a week of Summer School, then had two Team Days this week, and 4 days of standards next week...
Glenda 1st TN - Kathy, did you get the email with the Dr. Jean attachment?
judy3ca - Brad, that's weird because I just went back and checked it and it was fine. I don't know much about this stuff but I did it in Excel, does that matter?
judy3ca - nan, no, but it's on my Amazon wishlist, LOL.
Brad/3 - it may, sometimes, (and I'm not sure why) excel stuff won't come up for me. is there any way you can email it?
kathyb1stia - Judy, PP is great! I must use her more!
Brad/3 - Maybe nan can tell me why LOL, she's become the tech rep for the 4B mailring
naneb - Hey, everyone I have a new file on my webpage. It is a paper on fluency written by someone on the 4 block webring, It is about 50 pages but lots of good information and ideas
kathyb1stia - I want to teach a grad class on illustrators.
naneb - lol Brad, it seems like it
Brad/3 - i'll check that out nan
naneb - it's on the reading page
kathyb1stia - No, Glenda, no attachments, yet ...
judy3ca - Brad, LOL, I can only email it when my daughter or husband are available to help me, but I'd be happy to send it.
Glenda 1st TN - Kathn, That sounds interesting. What illustrators?
Brad/3 - thanks, judy, i just like the idea of doing all strategies, but maybe picking one or two to go more in-depth with as appropriate
judy3ca - Brad, how do I get your address?
Glenda 1st TN - Oops, That's Kathy. Did you not receive an email from Micah's account?
Brad/3 - There's something else in the files there that's in Excel and it always tells me the form is not valid
kathyb1stia - Oh, Nan, I must see/read this!
kathyb1stia - My team partner and I will pick 4 each, then everyone in the class will have to pick 2 and give presentations. Anyone choice.
judy3ca - Brad, how are you liking Ray's newest? I've only read a tiny bit, but love it so far. She sure has high expectations for us....now I know how my kiddos feel sometimes.
Brad/3 - i really love her latest, as I did with WW, I guess I'll have to get the Workshop one too. I posted about her "lofty" ideas on the chatboard.
naneb - http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/gipsy/41/guided_reading.html
kathyb1stia - I will have to look for an email from Micah's. I will let you know.
Brad/3 - I question how to best apply this with 2nd graders next year
naneb - that is the link to the page, the fluency article is at the bottom of the 3rd coumn
Brad/3 - this latest is really a distillation of her ideas from previous books I think
Brad/3 - i was surprised by her author's pic on back; not how I had pictured her
Glenda 1st TN - I've started reading STW. Boy it is great. I think it is going to help me with the RWM lessos. They both go hand in hand.
Sadie T - Hi Carol
judy3ca - That's an interesting thought, Brad. I finished The Writing Workshop and thought it was wonderful, but as she says, her stuff isn't for the beginner, LOL.
Glenda 1st TN - Hi Carol
kathyb1stia - Thanks, Nan, I bookmarked it for later... tonight that is! LOL!
Carol - Hi Sadie! Hi all!
naneb - you're welcome
kathyb1stia - I WANT MY WW, I WANT MY WW, I WANT MY WW!!!
judy3ca - Kathy, which WW do you mean?
Glenda 1st TN - Why is it taking so long?
Brad/3 - were you able to implement much this year, judy
judy3ca - Hi Carol!
kathyb1stia - I have STW, but I will need to brush it off.
Brad/3 - LOL, I was cracking up at Jan because I had the book
Brad/3 - I just lent STW to someone who will be my partner next year
kathyb1stia - Wondrous Words... I ordered it from Border's, but no word as to when they will get it in. RWM came this week.
judy3ca - Brad, not from The Writing Workshop because I read it so recently. I did think a lot about what she had to say about conferences and I asked my kids to write about conferences. Their responses gave me a lot to think about. There are suggestions she makes for conferring and sharing that I want to try. I did try one of her lessons from Wondrous Words and it was fabulous!
Glenda 1st TN - Kathy, get started brushing. I have MOT sitting on my bookshelf. I'm not taking the plastic off until I've finished STW and reread RWM.
Carol - I've just finished the questioning chapter in MOT and I have a question.
kathyb1stia - I wish my partner was interested in "reading" prof books, but she has a new baby and no time.
Brad/3 - OOH, that sounds good, judy, because I'm looking for something to shore up "conferencing"
kathyb1stia - Hey, Carol, let's hear the Q.
Sadie T - Carol, I'm reading MOT now too.
Carol - I know the focus is on forming questions to improve comprehension, but how much time do you spend actually discussing answers to the questions, especially in the beginning?
Glenda 1st TN - Go ahead and ask Carol. But I hope you don't get me started on MOT. I really don't think I can read 3 books at once.
judy3ca - Hi Carol!
Brad/3 - do you see a primary difference in the 3 books? is the Writer's Workshop the how? LOL
kathyb1stia - Glenda, it is thundering here in all the dust
Carol - I know how you feel, Glenda. I'm reading MOT and RWM!
Sadie T - Good question Carol... from what I've read so far there is very little discussion of the answers to the questions. Just the questions themselves.
Carol - Don't start that, Brad!
Brad/3 - somebody was saying how the questioning leads right to the inferring so they kind've combine the two
Glenda 1st TN - Very funny Kathy
Sadie T - Or they are supposed to find answers as they read. But what about the ones they can't find answers too?
Carol - I just read that email today, Brad. I think combining the q and i sounds good.
Brad/3 - Sadie, they address this with the "Charlie Anderson" lesson in STW
judy3ca - Sharon, HELLOOOO!
Sadie T - I don't have STW yet
Glenda 1st TN - Sadie, wouldn't you catch those during individual conference time, and guide them in developing this skill(s)?
Brad/3 - sharon share alike?
naneb - Hi, Sharon
Carol - I have STW, but like Glenda, two books at once is my limit!
Sharon - promise not to mention those bookmarks, Judy... I'm still wondering where I can find them!
Brad/3 - and i lent it to someone, sade, so sorry
Sharon - hey nan and everyone
Sadie T - Yes Glenda I think that's it.
judy3ca - Sharon, LOL, I'd be happy to send you a few. Really! I think there are at least 6 in the package. I'd be happy with 1.
judy3ca - Sharon, besides, you can really use them with your studies!
Brad/3 - bookmarks? did i miss something?
kathyb1stia - I might have to get Writer's Workshop, as my principal wants to start a Writer's Club this year. In her other school she had a Reader's Club, but now wants to move on to Writer's Club.
Sharon - awww... thanks, Judy... you're a peach... but I'll find them... promise I just got in from Lowes, purchased my rain gutters for bookshelves... got the ok to proceed with them
naneb - I am doingthem too, Sharon. did you buy the brackets?
Brad/3 - ooh, sharon, how do they work, do we screw them into the wall?
judy3ca - Cool on the rain gutters. Please post a pic when you're done.
Carol - I'm so jealous. There's no way my principal would let me put up rain gutters.
Sharon - you probably haven't read her MOT email ring post yet, Brad... she talks about them.... Yes, Nan, I finally found the underneath brackets
naneb - how much were the brackets?
Sharon - yes, brad... screw the brackets into the wall and that's it!
Carol - I want to hear more about the wire shelves that are cubes.
kathyb1stia - My friends say you need extra brackets, as the books are heavy and they might sag ...
Sharon - carol, and this is a brand new school... i was excited that the principal allowed it
naneb - Oh! I saw those at Walmart today
judy3ca - Carol, our rooms were totally gutted and remodeled last year, so they'd probably fire me for putting them up!
Brad/3 - my custodians would be calling the union, I think. Not that they're mowing the lawn or anything. . .
Glenda 1st TN - Where are you putting your rain gutters? Now, don't say the wall. That much I understand. I 've looked in my room and I can't find a wall that I could use.t
Sharon - $2 each bracket, Nan... the gutters were only $3 for each 10 foot section
Carol - My school is an open school (in makeup, not philosophy). We only have partitions up, so they wouldn't really hold.
judy3ca - Brad, they must be related to OUR custodians! However, one of them was a sweetie about hanging a pinata on a tree outside our classroom today.
Pinky - Hello to all
Sadie T - Hi Pinky!
naneb - Yours were cheaper than here, gutter was $4
Pinky - Hello Glenda
Carol - Nan, I'll be at Wal-Mart tomorrow!
Sharon - underneath each dry erase board, Glenda... it's a space I don't think I'll miss much... thinking I'll have two 10 foot shelves under each of two boards
kathyb1stia - Glenda, how about UNDER your blackboard?
judy3ca - Glenda, that's my other problem. I couldn't figure out how to give up any wall space.
Brad/3 - i never got a pencil sharpener screwed in all year
Glenda 1st TN - I have bookcases under my whiteboards.
kathyb1stia - Carol, I am in an open school floorplan, too.
naneb - I am putting mine under my dry erase board and under my wordwall, I am going to get at least 4 and maybe 6 sections of gutter
Brad/3 - I never quite understood these cubes. Someone explain them to me again, please.
Glenda 1st TN - Has anyone used the whisper phones? I made some this year and my students loved them.
judy3ca - Yeah, Brad, I get it. I wanted wires strung just so, so I had my husband do it. I didn't get permission.
kathyb1stia - My principal got those double sided bookcases for us to use to divide ourselves off from the center pod area. LOVE IT!
Pinky - Sadie helloo tooo
Sharon - yes, glenda... my first graders love them
Brad/3 - where'd you get them glenda? and how much?
naneb - I put the pencil sharpener on my desk, did it myself
judy3ca - Glenda, I have bookcases under my whiteboard, too.
naneb - my sixth graders liked the whisper phones too
Pinky - Whisper phones? what are they?
Brad/3 - i had electric one too so didn't mind, it's just the whole idea. . .
Carol - kathyb1stia, We have those too. I like them.
naneb - Brad, you make them, costs a few cents each
naneb - a 4 inch piece of pvc with an elbow on each end
Brad/3 - it's like PVC pipe, right? but how much?
Sharon - now you can buy them pre-made... why didn't we think of marketing them first???
naneb - it makes a phone that students who want to read out loud can use and no one else can hear them
Glenda 1st TN - I went to Home Depot and bought 2 1/2 inch elbow pvc pipes. But you can order them just as cheaply. I'd have to get the info from school. You might be able to find them on the internet. Try the words Phonics phones.
kathyb1stia - I want to do Whisper Phones, bought the stuff, but never got them together...
Carol - I've seen the whisper phones, but didn't know if they were effective. That's another item on my list!
Brad/3 - has anyone ever tried stuffing the glove and attaching it to a dowel to make a pointer?
judy3ca - Remind me what the whisper phones are for. My third graders didn't know how to whisper.
Pinky - Ddo ya attach the phones to any thing???
naneb - I used 3/4 inch pvc and the elbows come 10 in a bag
Brad/3 - no one has still given me approx. price.
naneb - judy, they hear themselves read so, #1 they speak softer and #2 they can monitor their reading better
Sharon - brad, i quit having cutesy pointers... they seemed to distract my firsties from the text... but I LOVE the story telling gloves... did anyone else try them this year?
naneb - I made 15 phones for about $3.00
Brad/3 - but do you think having the whisper phone encourages oral reading (when you really prefer silent)
kathyb1stia - I bought the gloves and dowels, but that's another thing that I never got together.
judy3ca - Thanks, Nan! I get it.
Sharon - i use them in writing too, judy... for hearing the sounds in words better
kathyb1stia - I am very bad about buying stuff that doesn't get finished.
Glenda 1st TN - I made one phone for each child. I wrote a number inside each phone so each child would know their own phone. My students kept their phones in their cubby. When they got ready to read independently, they would get their whisper phone. When they used the phone they could hear themselves reading and the noise level was really low. Well worth the money.
Pinky - Oh thank you Nan
Brad/3 - maybe if i just made four or five and acted as if they were treasures??
naneb - Brad, at first all of my kids wanted to use them, then I took them away from the ones who were playing with them, the ones who really needed to hear themselves used them
Sharon - i found they gave them up as they were ready, brad
Glenda 1st TN - Price, around $250 or $3.00 each
naneb - I kept mine in a basket but I also numbered them but, they had to check them out and in
Brad/3 - i tried everything i could to encourage silent reading this year. You read faster silently, blah, blah, blah, but I still had one or two who insisted on reading aloud, so I just don't want children reading aloud, because I've given "permission" with the phones
Glenda 1st TN - There is a difference between first and 3rd grade.
naneb - Glenda, why did they cost so much? mine were cheap. I used 3/4 inch pipe for about $1.50 and the rest was for the elbows maybe $2.00
Pinky - How much longer till school is out?? We have till Monday
Carol - Brad, I still think some lower readers need to hear themselves.
Brad/3 - I agree, glenda. I"ve seen them in first grade and totally believe. maybe, since I'm switching to 2, I'll start the year with them
judy3ca - Brad, I was just thinking that I don't want them for my third graders either.
Sharon - good point, glenda... question again... did anyone else use the story re-telling gloves this year... i found it to be wonderful with my firsties
naneb - I had a boy who read so fast orally that he didn't comprehend what he read, using the phone really helped him slow down
kathyb1stia - Explain the story retelling gloves, Sharon.
Sadie T - what are story re-telling gloves?
Glenda 1st TN - I'm not sure. I made them back in Nov. I might be remembering the price wrong. I do know I had to purchase a smaller pipe to go inside each elbow, The store was out of the elbow that would fit inside the other one. I was too impatient to wait.
Carol - Glenda, you sound like me!
Glenda 1st TN - yes, please explain the story telling glove. I've seen them, but I'm not sure how they are used.
kathyb1stia - ME, Too. ME, Too...
Missy - Are you talking about books yet?
Glenda 1st TN - Smiles to you Carol.
naneb - we are talking about everything
Sharon - it's a glove that has a story element piece on each finger... when we were studying story elements I would just hold up a finger and they would say... oh yeah, character, problem, setting... etc... it has a little house for the setting, lock for problem, key for solution, etc
kathyb1stia - Which book would you like to discuss, Missy?
judy3ca - I had one kid who was pretty much a nonreader at the beginning of the year and at the end he'd read aloud, but we were all so thrilled he was finally reading that no one ever complained. Unfortunately, my classroom is a pretty noisy place.
Glenda 1st TN - Hi Marie and Alta Rose
kathyb1stia - We have brought up a few Q from various books, so ask away!
Sadie T - Hi Marie and Alta Rose and Solitaire
Brad/3 - In our state, a summary is different from a retelling, so we have to be careful on terminology.
naneb - Hi, Alta rose and Marie and solitaire
Brad/3 - mine was noisy too. thought about yakker tracker.
Marie/3/SC - Sorry I am late
kathyb1stia - Hi, Alta Rose and Solitaire.
naneb - assistant principal came in one day to tell my class they were too loud, she looked around and everyone was on task, they didn't even look up, she said " never mind" and left
judy3ca - Ouch, Brad, I hate stuff like that! I'm hoping most of the noise in my room is productive.
Alta Rose - Hey, everyone. I can't stay. We are having computer problems. But listen--I told my son's teacher Colleen about this chat and she might pop in tonight. If she does, please tell her I'm sorry I couldn't be here. (Just identify me as her friend, as she won't recognize my A. R. handle, but she'll know who you're talking about. O.K?) Thanks!
Glenda 1st TN - Missy, If you get a little lost, just ask. Everyone here is very helpful.
kathyb1stia - Yes, Missy, and it flows down and then disappears. Sometimes it is hard to keep up! LOL!
kathyb1stia - Nan, great story!
Sadie T - Bye Alta. We'll watch for Colleen.
Brad/3 - i'm just worried the noise was completely cutting some people off; my whole school is noisy and not productive noise either
Glenda 1st TN - Will do Alta Rose
judy3ca - What does "cutting off" mean?
Brad/3 - not allowing them to truly concentrate. I'm reminded of something I think Calkins or maybe Routman said, saying, "It truly must be quiet to concentrate on good writing or reading." When I think about it, I have to agree. When I truly focus on my reading or writing, I want absolute silence. And I always thought I could thrive with several things going at once. But we can't.
judy3ca - Does anyone know if Jan and Kim are coming tonight?
Brad/3 - We once thought of writer's workshops as being noisy, but productive places. But who can really concentrate in an atmosphere like that, and do their best?
kathyb1stia - Kim can't be here tonight
Brad/3 - Kim told me to tell all of you she is helping her son at Chico
Brad/3 - I need jan to show up so I can tease her some more. LOL
Glenda 1st TN - Have you thought about letting students wear headsets to cut down on noise?
Carol - It's hard to have good small group work going on without some noise, though.
kathyb1stia - HAve any of you heard of the book, Great Performances? I left a post on the chatboard.
judy3ca - I started teaching in the days when we were judged by a quiet classroom. Now I love the quiet hum of community. Truly, when I look around as I confer during WW, the kids are writing--it's just that some are working with a peer. Same thing during guided reading. I really think they learn a lot from each other.
Brad/3 - what type of headsets? Small group work has to have noise, I think.
Carol - I haven't. Tell us about it, kathyb1stia
Brad/3 - kathy, i had never heard of it. it sounds interesting though, keep us informed
Brad/3 - of course, to we junkies, it ALL sounds interesting
naneb - judy, i agree, I think there is a big difference in that noise too, you can tell when it is productive noise, I think that's why the AP said never mind, she walked in and realized my kids were working
Marie/3/SC - my class seems to be really loud during partner and group reading...it makes it hard for people to concentrate...but what can ya do?
Carol - You're right Brad!
kathyb1stia - I am going to a workshop on Tuesday and it is on the agenda that we will read and discuss Chapters 1 and 2. I wanted some advance info, I don't like surprises like that.
judy3ca - Brad, speaking of teasing Jan, you're so controlled tonight. No thunder, dishtowels, or even metaphors.
Glenda 1st TN - Brad, your right about the small groups. I was thinking more when the students were trying to write and was being bothered by the noise. You can get head sets from airports. The kind they wear to muffle the loud airplane noise. The students can still hear you, but it really does muffle a lot of the excess noise.
Brad/3 - but there should be little noise during silent reading or writer's workshop
judy3ca - phew, thanks, Nan!
Marie/3/SC - airport headphones...good idea Glenda
judy3ca - Glenda, I made a couple of those headsets from old listening centers. I don't think they really cut out too much noise, but the kids love them.
Brad/3 - I just get this quiet feeling from MOT, WW, and RWM, though, don't you?
kathyb1stia - I use broken headphones, that don't work... just cut off the wires.
judy3ca - Doesn't it seem like almost all of Miller's examples in RWM are kids working together?
Glenda 1st TN - Judy, I've had a few students that were very sensitive to noise. The headsets helped them. As for the others, they would usually lose interest over time.
Sharon - reading the posts.... loved judy's description of the "hum of community".... but then again, I ALWAYS love judy's posts
judy3ca - Glenda, same here.
Brad/3 - With firsties, I think they have them working together more, yes, perhaps because they can't sustain unless they do. Calkins speaks of this too in The Art of Teaching Reading
naneb - It makes you much quieter!!!
judy3ca - Sharon, you flatterer.
Brad/3 - maybe because i sat in inservices all week. you can ask my teaching partner; i was doing all my wisecracking there yesterday
Glenda 1st TN - Judy, I think your right. It does seem that way.
Brad/3 - maybe kim just isn't here to egg me on and call me cheap. LOL. I FINALLY BOUGHT A BOOK, SIGHT UNSEEN KIM!! LOL
Sadie T - Brad did you have liquor there too?
Brad/3 - Sadie, don't I wish. Inservices would be a ball if they just served liquor.
Carol - Some inservices would be better that way, Sadie! )
Brad/3 - brb, more liquor
kathyb1stia - I will be sure to let Kim know that you finally spent some $$$.
judy3ca - I really worried about the noise factor when we were a few months into Writer's Workshop, so I had several different teachers come and observe. Every single one of them said the kids were on task (remember, I'm stuck conferring). My study partner even came and she said everything was great except I was too loud, LOL.
Sharon - brad, where do you teach?
Carol - With an open floorplan, my teammates will tell me if my kiddos get too loud.
Glenda 1st TN - Okay, Judy so now you know, You're the problem.
kathyb1stia - Judy, I will try to remember that... as I am loud, too.
Brad/3 - aha, now the margaritas are flowing.
judy3ca - Glenda, that's it, LOL!
judy3ca - Kathy, GMTA!
Brad/3 - Carol, I liked the location of my room this year, because only Media Center next door. And in the gym hall too, so everyone keeps doors shut anyway
kathyb1stia - Carol, my teammates do, too... Sometimes it makes me sad...;(
Brad/3 - I teach in Dayton OH Sharon
Sadie T - Aren't there are lot of distractions with an open floorplan?
Brad/3 - Inservices this week = boring and scant good infor
Marie/3/SC - carol, what do you meant by open floor plan
Carol - I used to teach in a room added on to the building. No one ever heard us. I loved it!
kathyb1stia - Carol, sometimes I see/hear great things, that is over shadowed by their comments. ...
Brad/3 - I subbed in school with open floor plan, I didn't think there was too much interference.
Sadie T - What were your boring inservices about, Brad?
Brad/3 - where are you, share?
judy3ca - Brad, I have classes coming up, too. Next week is 2 days of Six Traits and the week after is 2 mornings of "tiered instruction."
Carol - Marie, we have floor to ceiling wall partitions between grades, but within the same grade our classes are only divided by bookshelves and portable bulletin boards.
Sandra - Hello, I am trying to read and catch up with you all.
Brad/3 - Linking math to state test-okay, reading in math--good info, dry presenter, and then 2 days on 4B which I've been doing for awhile and knew more than the presenters, who kept referring to me when people asked questions.
Marie/3/SC - That sounds like it could present some interesting problems Carol...can't you hear what all the other teachers are saying
Glenda 1st TN - Good luck Sandra. I've been here for sometime tonight and I can't keep up.
judy3ca - Carol, what is the point of that?
Carol - Kathy, I am fortunate to work with some really great people.
kathyb1stia - Yes, Sadie, open floorplan isn't the best. My neighbors HATE when I use CDs, except for listening background noise!
Carol - they are good about their comments.
Sharon - be sure and bill them as a consulter, brad
Brad/3 - judy, I would be excited about 6 traits, I want to work this in next year along with some of Ray. I have Baldrige this next week and then SIRI the last week of June and I'm done for the summer
Sadie T - Glad they had a 4B expert Brad... LOL
naneb - Brad, who were the 4 blocks presenters?
Brad/3 - teachers in our district who had heard of 4B
judy3ca - Brad, I'm thrilled about 6 Traits. I already went to day 1 and it was terrific.
Sharon - we only have foss kit science instruction inservices this summer
Carol - It's good and bad. We work well as a team and the kids are good about whispering. BUT there are sometimes you want to do something loud and it bothers others. We just plan loud things at the same time.
Brad/3 - In fact, I was asked to do these presentation but said no because I feel I didn't have time to prepare.
naneb - we have Pat cunningham coming in the fall!!! Yeah!! I have been promised that I can go to the inservice
Carol - Judy, I think it started in the 70's with the open school philosophy
Sharon - wow, nan... i'm envious!
judy3ca - Lucky you, Nan! Classrooms That Work was my Bible when I returned to teaching.
Brad/3 - But I was asked to present again after I was answering other people's questions. So I'll probably do some this fall. This is an arena that I really want to move into, so I'm excited.
Marie/3/SC - Do you do a lot of team teaching...sounds like the setup is conducive to that
kathyb1stia - Yes, my building is 27 years old.
judy3ca - Sharon, Foss Kits are a great supplement. I like them.
naneb - I just hope they don't forget me when the time comes, it is for elementary teachers
Brad/3 - Wow, Nan, please let me know how Pat goes,
Marie/3/SC - Judy..what are Foss Kits
Sharon - keep reminding them, nan
Brad/3 - Sharon, our district uses a few of the Foss kits and Teachers hate them
Sadie T - Nan, can I come too?
Carol - No, Marie, we're not allowed to
Brad/3 - Tell her I want to be a "licensed" presenter.
Sharon - do you, brad?
Sandra - I hope Cunningham is good. Our system did 4b training one year, they did the same presentation every time. It was like the Rocky Horror Show--everyone knew what to say next.
naneb - I think i would like to do presentations too, I have done some computer workshops but not for money yet
kathyb1stia - Marie, no team teaching here, although one would think that would be best.
Glenda 1st TN - What are Foss Kits?
judy3ca - Brad, why do they hate them? Marie, they're just science lessons/equipment in a box.
Marie/3/SC - Well...I guess there must be a good reason for that but I can't think of one
Brad/3 - LOL, who was your 4B presenter, Sandra?
Sharon - inquiry based science instruction, glenda
naneb - I really like using the 4 blocks framework even though i had to adapt it a little
Sandra - Mr. Cunningham
Brad/3 - because there's no text, Judy. Teachers are too text-dependent, I'm sure I will get no disagreement in here
Marie/3/SC - Oh thanks Judy..I see
Glenda 1st TN - We have those. First grade has 4 kits we get for 6 weeks each.
Brad/3 - The second day, the presenters actually asked me to get up and speak for a bit, boy did they ask the wrong person. I'm too much of a performer. LOL. They were nice though and were very understanding of teachers' needs at inservices (ie. food, long breaks, and don't read overheads that we can read)
naneb - I haven't been to any 4 blocks training so I hope it is good, if they take me out of the classroom and it is yucky I will not be happy
kathyb1stia - Glenda, email me about your FOUR Foss kits later. I need some "inservicing!"
Sharon - well my new school is a science magnet... i hope the teachers are more open to inquiry science... but you all know how it goes... some applied to go there because it is a new beautiful school :
Marie/3/SC - My sister's school uses the science kits and she says they would be great but they never fit in with what they teach and they never know whats coming
judy3ca - That is weird Brad! I think everyone at my school uses and likes the Foss Kits. Sharon, you'll have to let us know what you think, please.
Brad/3 - nan, i'm sure if it's pat it will be good,
Marie/3/SC - Carol and Kathy , do they say why team teaching is a no-no
Sandra - We wondered if they thought they were supposed to have different levels at each session, but they sent the same audience each time. It was kind of bizarre and funny at the same time. I think after the 3rd time, everyone knew what he was talking about.
Brad/3 - I like the kits we have
naneb - How, weird Sandra, I bet you all had some good laughs about that
Sadie T - Well, recently I was an inservice where the guy kept saying "Like we talked about last time..." and we'd never met him before!
Carol - In my school, the admin. doesn't think 3rd graders are up to having more than one teacher. I did it at another school, though and loved it.
Sharon - will do, judy
kathyb1stia - Oops, well, what ever kind of science boxes you have.
judy3ca - Marie, well, we just bought the Foss Kits that go with our standards.
naneb - my children had different teachers in first grade
Glenda 1st TN - Our system furnishes our own kits. I worked on a committee this spring to fill in state standards that were not covered.
naneb - I meant for different subjects
Brad/3 - We're a Core Knowledge school, so Foss kits never went with "curriculum"
Carol - Well, guys, I hate to go, but it's almost midnight here and my son is sure to be up by 6!
judy3ca - Night, Carol!
naneb - bye, Carol
Brad/3 - besides, our state curriculum is changing, and our core knowledge money is out, so i think the kits will be phased out or refurbished.
Carol - I'll see you all next week.
Marie/3/SC - I think it must be a problem with organization at her school
Glenda 1st TN - Nan, was their first grade departmentaized (sp)?
Sadie T - bye, Carol
Glenda 1st TN - bye carol
Marie/3/SC - night Carol
Sandra - We did laugh some. Some were outright rude, talking. I hate it when people are like that, but they were wishing they could be in their rooms working.
kathyb1stia - Bye, Carol.
kathyb1stia - Bye, Carol.
Brad/3 - I subbed in a departmentalized first grade
naneb - they had pairs of teachers, they had different teachers for reading and math
Glenda 1st TN - Did it serve the students well?
naneb - Actually, after my daughter they quit doing that in primary grades
Brad/3 - The teachers traded subjects at the end of each quarter, adn there were 4 of them, so by the end of the year, they had taught all subjects
Marie/3/SC - nan, what did you think of it as a parent
naneb - I think my daughter would have done better with one teacher, she was really shy and needed the consistent environment
Brad/3 - I think it was more in teachers' interests (less to plan) and the children didn't seem to mind. It depends on what you mean by "serve well" I guess
Sharon - don
Marie/3/SC - makes sense, nan
Brad/3 - sharon, did you ever answer where you teach?
kathyb1stia - I would like to switch class every so often, but I don't I can talk my partner into anything. She is finishing her MA this Summer along with new baby. One would think that she might be more open to new ideas. ...
Sharon - oops...... don't think i'd like that brad, just when you get to know the kids' needs and strengths well, you change subjects?
naneb - my oldest son was great, he is very bright, outgoing and a handful, he flourished, my other son stayed with the same teacher and he was fine too so I guess it was okay
Sharon - didn't see the question, brad... i teach in alabama
Marie/3/SC - I suppose it might be a matter of style as to whether it works well or not
Sharon - right outside auburn, alabama WAR EAGLE!
Brad/3 - sharon, I don't know, less planning is attractive, to teach one subject really well, and to get to know more students at your level is attractive, but I think I'm with you, do you really know them by switching so much? I'm wondering if they went back to that format this year.
Brad/3 - Sharon, are you bamateacher
naneb - War Eagle!!!! is right!!
Sharon - yep, brad... that's me!
naneb - I din't know that, sharon !!!
Brad/3 - LOL, my wife gets so pi**ed off because I walk around the house saying BAMA-teachaaah!
Sharon - you didn't, nan?
naneb - if I did I forgot!!
Brad/3 - it's just funny, I started doing it when I was reading all the mot posts when i first joined group
Sharon - LOL... my car tag is TEACHA.. how sad is that????
naneb - I knew you were from Alabama, but not that you were bamateacher
Brad/3 - My wife was like, "What the heck are you over there saying to yourself?"
naneb - my cartag is myspydr
Brad/3 - (i'm wierd)
Brad/3 - where is judy
Sharon - do you drive a spyder?
naneb - 1988 alfa romeo spyder
judy3ca - I like that plate, Sharon. Mine used to say CAMSMOM (son Cameron) then along came license plate frame that read "And Chelsea's, too." But then they got older....
kathyb1stia - In Iowa we have teacher plates with big red apples on them. whenever the cops drive around our school on the weekends, they just point to my license, smile and wave, then leave.
Brad/3 - my car tag is CMS 9796
Brad/3 - (again, i'm wierd)
judy3ca - kathy, that's cool!
naneb - kathy, where in Iowa are you from?
naneb - LOL@Brad!!
Sadie T - I love the teacher plates idea... never seen that
Brad/3 - there's judy!
naneb - I am from South Dakota or used to be
judy3ca - I don't get it (Brad's tag)!
Marie/3/SC - We have some Apple plates in SC too
Sharon - we have educator's tags in alabama... books with an apple on them
Brad/3 - south dakota, nan, do you have teeth?
kathyb1stia - SE Iowa
naneb - judy, I had a dog named Chelsea!! LOL!!!
naneb - sure
Brad/3 - It's just a normal tag, Judy!! (unlike me)
Brad/3 - My daughter is Chelsey
judy3ca - nan, my poor daughter--but I'm going to blame her name on husband and son, they chose it.
Sadie T - Brad! We were trying to figure out what it meant...
judy3ca - Brad, another connection!
kathyb1stia - I am a long ways from SD, but I love vacationing there. I love the campus at Augustana.
naneb - judy, it was an Old English Sheepdog, hence, the old english name
Sandra - That is cool, but I had a child spit on my car because it had a Blue Devil plate on the front, must of been a Carolina fan. Does anyone ever react negatively to cars with red apples?
judy3ca - Oops!
Brad/3 - LOL, nan, when I went to SD everyone I ran into either had no or was missing some teeth. I kept thinking I should be a dentist and move to SD
naneb - sounds like Mississippi to me!!!
Brad/3 - roflmao
Glenda 1st TN - No that is TN. We just lucky we wear shoes
Sharon - bad connection here, brad... i had a mom come in at the beginning of the year with absolutely not ONE tooth in her head... i was fascinated heh
Brad/3 - rolmao pmp
naneb - I am going through TN on Sunday, we are going to Mammoth Cave
Sandra - I can't believe I typed "must of." I have read it so many times in papers that it looks correct.
Brad/3 - scary, sharon
Sharon - i love mammoth cave, nan
Marie/3/SC - Yikes Sharon
kathyb1stia - No, I have never noticed anyone reacting negative to my car.
judy3ca - Oh gross, Sharon!
Glenda 1st TN - When you go through Franklin on I 65, think of me. I'm just East of Franklin.
naneb - everyone at school just wants a ride in my car
Marie/3/SC - Maybe she just forgot them at home Sharon
naneb - Okay, glenda I will wave out the window
Brad/3 - LOL Marie
judy3ca - Marie, ROFL!!!
Sharon - she had a full set of false teeth the next time i saw her... what was probably scarier was what she looked like before the teeth were gone
Brad/3 - They were probably in a Mason Jar on the kitchen sink, LOL
Marie/3/SC - or in her purse
Brad/3 - roflalalalal
Sandra - I am happy to hear that. I wasn't too thrilled about my car being spit on, but we are basketball fanatics here and everyone thinks their team is the best.
Brad/3 - with purse lint stuck to it
Glenda 1st TN - We drink RC in Mason Jars with moon pies.
Marie/3/SC - ewww.....visualizing
Brad/3 - glenda, you sound like my "people" (no claim)
Sadie T - Brad, that's gross!
Brad/3 - proficient readers do that, marie
Glenda 1st TN - Ever been to the RC and Moon pie festival?? =)
Sharon - you haven't lived till you've had moon pie and RC
kathyb1stia - Well, I can live with parents coming to school without teeth. But, we have moms coming in without anything on under their dirty, torn T-shirt.
Marie/3/SC - hey, now...nothing wrong with a good 'ol RC and a moon pie
Brad/3 - kathy, that's attractive
judy3ca - Glenda, do you know that I read "Jimmy Zangwow's Great Moonpie Adventure" (or something close to that) to my class this year and only 2 of my kids knew what moonpies were. One cool mom sent in enough for everyone--she said we all need moonpie schema.
Sharon - we have that too, marie... and no shoes... and men with hairy chests and unbuttoned shirts.... OH LAWD
Brad/3 - Moonpie schema, I love it
Marie/3/SC - again...not a pretty mental image...(note my proficient reader behavior)
Glenda 1st TN - I'll take no teeth any day over no bra.
naneb - They throw moonpies from the floats during Mardi Gras here
Brad/3 - LAWSY, LAWSY, LAWSY
Marie/3/SC - Judy that is a sad commentary on today's youth...no moonpies
kathyb1stia - Actually, the scariest mom has a tear tatoo on her face under one eye.
naneb - I am usually so happy to see a parent that I don't care what they look like
Brad/3 - LOL, try explaining a record (as in album) "Um, what's that?"
Sadie T - It's been forever since I had a moonpie
judy3ca - Marie, well, at least they had the good grace to like them!
Marie/3/SC - Yikes...Sharon
naneb - I like the chocolate chip ones the best
Brad/3 - that's sad, kathy. literally
Sandra - I had a man peer through the narrow window in my door one day at school. When I opened the door to see what he wanted it was a woman, obviously a woman with hair in pink curlers and a scarf, pink sweater, other obvious characteristics, and a full beard.
Sadie T - Right, Brad, or try explaing "sounds like a broken record"... they're thinking sports!
Marie/3/SC - Glenda, I have to agree..Somebody could lose an eye that way
Brad/3 - LOL, Sandra, I am peeing my pants now
judy3ca - Sandra, eeeewww! Double yuck!
Sharon - my all time favorite though... a kid who shared about momma's boyfriend, Rick... who came over when dad went to work... and one day dad came home and found rick and they got into a fight and dad tried to stick ricks head in the oven and turn it on..... sad situations for some of these kids, huh?
Sadie T - Sharon, that's awful.
Marie/3/SC - Judy, that makes up for a lot
Brad/3 - sharon, are you in the sticks?
judy3ca - Oh, my, Sharon, that's a sad one.
kathyb1stia - Brad, they told me the tear tatoo has a "special" meaning, as she has been in prison.
naneb - LOL@Brad!!! OMG
Brad/3 - scary enough, kat, i think i've heard that before
Sharon - not really, brad... just a low income area... my new school is from the high income area... will be an adjustment, huh?
Sandra - I was stunned, my jaw dropped, I couldn't speak. She asked for her nephew and I sent him without even asking if she had been by the office. This was many years ago. The child was glad to see her, proudly said "that's my mama."
Brad/3 - Sharon, be prepared, though the parents can be just as scary, but in a different way
Marie/3/SC - Kids just love their parents no matter what, huh?
Brad/3 - brb, margaritas are calling me
Sharon - so i've heard, brad
Brad/3 - Brad? Brad?
kathyb1stia - Well, you guys and gals, it is nearly 11PM... see you next week.
Sharon - i hope he means liquor and not multiple women
judy3ca - Yes, Brad, but the parents are also capable of understanding what you're doing. I've taught in both and loved both, but it's very nice to have "moonpie schema" parents who appreciate me.
Marie/3/SC - Well, guys thanks for letting me join in and I am off to bed now
Sandra - I think the scariest parents, sometimes, are the parents of upperclass kids. They know just enough about school to cause trouble by not quite getting it.
Brad/3 - I have answered their call,
Brad/3 - marie, you must stop by more often and tell us tales of big-breasted women with no bras
Glenda 1st TN - Sandra, I had a parent this year that really scared me.
Sadie T - Sandra, that's true. Sometimes they think they know more than we do about teaching...
Sharon - she never said big-breasted, brad... that was your OWN visualization
Brad/3 - I was just saying to Nik the other day, (my wife), that ours is the only profession where everyone feels just because they've been there, they have a say in how it should be done
Sadie T - Glenda, what was scary about the parent?
Glenda 1st TN - She was not stable. She had to be put in the hospital for a few days because she threatened to kill her mother. It didn't make me feel too good to know she was not happy with me this year.
Brad/3 - <----hanging head in shame, now that love of big-breasted women has been revealed
Sharon - eeek, glenda
Glenda 1st TN - I'm just glad the year is over.
Brad/3 - I mean I've been to dr's office but would never dream of telling doctor how to diagnose an illness
Sadie T - Yes, Brad... some have the attitude "I know how to teach because I was in school once..." no one says, "I know how to practice medicine because I've been to a doctor!"
Brad/3 - now that I think about it, is my love for big-breasted women now being archived?
naneb - I had a set of twins one year that the father had kidnapped and then gotten custody in another state, the mother found out where they were and I had to keep the door locked at all times and they were not allowed to go anywhere alone
Glenda 1st TN - You are exactly right Brad. My principal made the same comment to us on the last day of school.
judy3ca - Brad, is your wife a teacher, too?
Brad/3 - That he liked big-breasted women, glenda?
Sandra - We have a couple of women who each taught about 2 years twenty-five years ago and think they know exactly what is going on, but they relate it to their teaching experience. We didn't even have free lunch back then, when we did it was about 10%. These days it is up about 75%. So, you know that nothing is like it was 25 years ago, yet still they come to tell how they did it.
Sadie T - Glenda, did your principal comment about Brad's love for big-breated women??
Brad/3 - heavens, no, judy, she doesn't know how i do it.
Brad/3 - LOL Sade
judy3ca - Brad, at least SHE appreciates you!
Glenda 1st TN - No, but I'm sure he would if he got half a chance. What he commented on was the attitude that everyone feels they know how to teach because they went to school. Very Funny Sadie! Do you know my principal????
Sadie T - Judy - Glenda's principal????
Brad/3 - yes, but she hates school talk sometimes or just doesn't get it, so that's why I'm here every Fri.
Brad/3 - Forward his email, Glenda, we lovers of the breasts have to stick together. LOL
judy3ca - Okay, folks, today was my last day of school, faculty luncheon, daughter's HS graduation. I'm exhausted. Thanks for a great chat--good night!
naneb - bye Judy have a great summer!!
Brad/3 - nite, judy, hope you got my address and can get someone to help send that stuff. LOL. Great summer!
Sadie T - WOW, all that was today? Bye Judy...
judy3ca - Sadie, time for one more ROFL before bed!
Sadie T - Enjoy your summer!!
Sharon - my hubbie is a superintendent... it helps that we're both educators... he understands and appreciates what i do
Sadie T -
Brad/3 - that's good, judy. supe in your district?
Sandra - Signing off, enjoyed it. Getting late here.
judy3ca - Brad, wait, did I miss your address?
Glenda 1st TN - Wow, Sharon, if he is like our superintendent right now, he is up to his ears trying to work out the budget crunch.
Sharon - that was me, brad... no, in a neighboring district... i want to stand on my own reputation... not his
judy3ca - Never mind, I'll get it later. Good night.
Sharon - yes, he is, glenda... though they're in good shape
Brad/3 - you's a stand-up woman Sharon
Brad/3 - I just sent it to you judy
Brad/3 - sharon, I'm so happy you came
Glenda 1st TN - It is really rough right now in TN. The state hasn't settled the state budget. The local governments are up in the air too.
Brad/3 - we're changing state curriculum so. . .
Brad/3 - state tests will be changing in a couple years. . .
Sharon - i always forget about the chat, brad... i'm loving the chatboard posts though.... very insightful
Brad/3 - there's always something to look forward to, isn't there?
Glenda 1st TN - We've just update our state curriculum
Sharon - i don't get to post too much... bogged down way too much with grad school
Brad/3 - why thank you, sharon
Brad/3 - what happened to nan
Brad/3 - oh, sharon, what is major?
naneb - I am still here lurking
Glenda 1st TN - Calm down Brad, she said the chats were insightful.
Sharon - ph.d in reading education, brad
naneb - Dr. Sharon!!!
Brad/3 - estimated completion?
Sharon - still a long way to go though
naneb - said i was going to do that but now I don't think I will
Brad/3 - do you want people to call you Dr.
Glenda 1st TN - Where are you taking your grad classes?
Brad/3 - hey nan, I had a question about some of that IE stuff
naneb - I know that answer!!!
Sharon - 2 more years... problem is that my masters is in administration.. so i'm unable to count a lot of the courses from masters level
naneb - what Brad?
Brad/3 - i went to website, but
Brad/3 - my masters is in admin too sharon
Sharon - auburn university, glenda.... no, brad... my hubbie has doctorate and is very low key about it.. i'll be the same
Brad/3 - nan, are those exercises just something you have them do everyday or what? I"m still not getting it
naneb - my masters is in special ed.
Brad/3 - screw it, I want to be Dr. Brad,, after all, you earned it didn't you?
Sharon - nan is a nationally certified teacher... that's something i hope to accomplish after doctorate...i'm impressed by that, nan
Glenda 1st TN - My masters is in Curr. and Inst. I was just 3 hours short of Admin. cert. too. Now the requrirements have changed .Too bad
Brad/3 - but then again, as I'm sure you've noticed, I'm not a low-key person
naneb - yes, Brad the instruments start out simple and get harder but that is not the main part, mainly you discuss their thinking, the teacher does not explain or instruct you help the student to figure out what to do and they discuss how they did that, you go through all of these steps to logically think through a problem
naneb - that's why I don't think I will go for a Ph.D. why bother
Brad/3 - what do you discuss when you discuss their thinking. and how does it transfer?
naneb - Brad, there are usually no directions on the pages
Sharon - it's all about the knowledge for me, nan..... i'm loving the classes
Glenda 1st TN - Nan, I don't get it. What do you mean by why bother?
Brad/3 - about how many people are nationally certified?
naneb - first step is gather information, so, they discuss all of the parts, then they relate it to previous pages and instruments and infer, what they should do, develop a plan and a strategy and then they do the page, then they discuss their answers, develop a principle and bridge the principle to other areas of life
Sharon - not sure, brad... but in alabama it's a $5000 raise plus $5000 for your classroom bonus
naneb - I meant why should I get a Ph.D when I am NBCT, I think that is equally as demanding
Brad/3 - can you give example or would that be too hard
Glenda 1st TN - I see. Thanks Nan
Brad/3 - per year Sharon?
Sharon - not sure about that nan... i'll let you know... i know the national board certification is all consuming for a few months, but a doctorate takes years of intensity
Sharon - the classroom bonus is once, brad... the raise is for 10 years... and then you recertify
Brad/3 - if you were going to be nat cert, when in your career would you do it and at what time of year? summer?
Sadie T - how does recertification work for that
naneb - first instrument is Organization of Dots which teaches planning behavior and organization, so a principle for a page might be that it is important to investigate all parts of a problem before beginning to work on it. Then, they would find other areas of their life where that would also be helpful
naneb - NB takes a year at least Brad
Brad/3 - i see, is this for the older set, nan?
Sharon - i think you go through the process agai, sadie...not sure
Sadie T - Nan, I'm lost... what is this process you are describing?
Glenda 1st TN - Well, I guess I better turn in. It is getting late. It has been fun.
Sharon - my friend just finished.... november to april... then an exam this summer... she's finished
Brad/3 - so nat cert is not for life?
naneb - they haven't finalized the recertification process yet
naneb - Sadie, it is a program I teach that Brad had questions about
naneb - 10 years Brad
Brad/3 - so when would you do it (and whatever for besides raise)
naneb - Brad, yes you really should be at least 12 or so, need to be able to handle abstract concepts
naneb - doing national boards will change you forever, It makes you stretch as a teacher and examine everything you believe an do
Brad/3 - hmm
Brad/3 - well, I must turn in, big day tomorrow
naneb - Brad, I had 2 weeks of training for iE, 9 hours a day for 6 days, It is very intense training
Sharon - bedtime for me guys....... sleep sweet!
naneb - bye Brad, me too
Sharon - enjoyed the chat!
Brad/3 - good night all, may we all dream of big-breasted women that have ALL teeth
ne-ne - i am currently an assessor for nbpts and seem to be having a bad time understanding the specifics of the rubric for ex; i gave a candidate a 4 b/c i though everything was coverd 2 way communication, impact on Student learning etc. My trainer said that it should have been a 2 i was planning on doing nb tthis fall but is having 2nd doubts any suggestions
Marcy - My suggestion, go for it! I have learned so much this year. I am far from done (I go to the assessment center on Wednesday). Yes it is hard, but I have gained so much knowledge about myself and my teaching!
Kathy in CT - I agree, GO for it ne-ne. It was an amazing process.
Marcy - Kathy, are you done?
Kathy in CT - Yes I tested June 4th.
Marcy - You very lucky girl!
Kathy in CT - Now the wait begins!
Marcy - I am ready to wait, I am sick of studying!
Kathy in CT - Good luck on Wednesday. You will be fine.
Marcy - Did you feel it was fair or were you surprised?
Heidi - I go to the AC on Tuesday. Sometimes I think I'm ready, other times I am in doubt.
Marcy - I know of what you speak
Kathy in CT - It was fine. I just needed to get typing faster. I took too long on the first question getting started. Once I warmed up it was fine.
Marcy - Thank you!\
Kathy in CT - Good luck on Tuesday Heidi.
Heidi - Thanks Kathy
Marcy - Yes! I wish mine was today! Best of luck!
Heidi - I figured it out
Heidi - Kathy, did you make mock lessons ahead of time or just study the content and standards?
Kathy in CT - You will feel an intense sense of relief when you finish. I went to lunch with a friend as we tested the same day. We took the test at 8:30 and then went to lunch at 12:30. I am glad we took the whole day off. I took a four hour nap after the test and lun
Kathy in CT - I just studied a little of everything and kept reviewing the standards.
Heidi - I can't wait for intense relief...........
Marcy - Sounds like a good way to spend the day. I go by myself, but plan on going shopping in the "big city" afterward
Kathy in CT - My husband and daughter are relieved too a now they have half a chance to get a meal more than one day a week and laundry gets done occasionally too!
Kathy in CT - Hi Penny
penny/FL - Hi everyone. AC is over and done with
Heidi - Kathy, thats what I have been doing. Glad to hear you did the same.
Kathy in CT - Good for you. Feels great soesn't it?
Marcy - Oh, man, that is the one good thing about this, I use it for an excuse for EVERYTHING lol
penny/FL - LOL, me too. Now I really have to clean the house
Marcy - Hi Penny! Good for you - you must feel great
penny/FL - marcy, it's a relief, but if I didn't do well I know what to expect the next time
penny/FL - I had the most horrible keyboard to work with though. The keys kept sticking
Marcy - That is the way I am thinking about it also. I go on Wednesday
penny/FL - Plus I'm hoping my portfolio will carry me
Kathy in CT - Don't give up, penny, You might surprise yourself. All we can do is wait. I put all my study things in the attic so I could not make myself crazy with should have, could have.
Marcy - Did you go through a case of the "crazies" I drove to the center yesterday (an hour and half away, just to peak in the door and see what it looked like)
penny/FL - No, another teacher from the school took the test a few weeks ago and gave me directions. But it was an hour away in Tampa
Kathy in CT - I took a dry run to make sure I knew where to go and actualy went inside to see what it looked like. Good thing since it was a tiny, tiny building and we missed it the first two tries!
penny/FL - I couldn't believe all the security involved
