naneb - (((((((((((((((((((((HI, Judy and Brad)))))))))))))))))))))))))))
brad - I was thinking of you today
brad - (((hey nan)))
naneb - Hi!!
naneb - judy??? are you here??
naneb - How has your year been so far, Brad?
brad - in a word?
naneb - sure
brad - in a KIND word??
naneb - always, kind
brad - challenging
naneb - I know you said they were really low, mine are really low too but sweet kids
brad - mine are low, some sweet, many sour
naneb - I hope it gets better
brad - apparently I was such a reading star (literally principal's words) last year, I got stuck with some LOOOOOW kids
brad - One little girl just looked up at me when I was assessing and said, "I can't read."
naneb - Isn't that the pits, happens to me all of the time, It seems we get punished for doing a good job
naneb - I came in and it was empty and the ncame back and here you were
brad - oh well, at least we got them and not some one else who may not give them what they need, right, nan?
naneb - Hi Judy!!
naneb - I guess that is true Brad, I have seen progress in some of them already
judy3ca - Oooh, oooh, I wanna gripe about getting the lowbies, too!
brad - fire away judy
naneb - I will never make it tonight, I am nodding off as i write this
judy3ca - Nan, I'm tired too! Brad, I'm sorry yours are so low--it makes it hard!
brad - but it's not just that you get the lowbies, but all their avoidance behaviors and attention seeking that comes with that makes it twice as hard to deal with
Erin - brad, love the color
judy3ca - ((Erin))
brad - thank, you, fuschia i think it goes with my nails
naneb - my principal called me in and said he was putting this EH (emotionally handicapped) student in my room because his teacher can't handle him, Now, she has a full time behavior specialist and I have a room full of kids, I was upset that I had to have him because they can't do their job
judy3ca - Yes, brad, it's the attention-seeking that's driving me crazy (these 3 days I've taught).
naneb - Pink Ho Ho's!!!
judy3ca - ROFL
Erin - nan-I hear you on that. I'm told, "I know you can handle this (fill in a behavior problem)
brad - it's the CONSTANT chatter driving me nuts. they think if i stop; it's okay for them to start.
judy3ca - Nan, that's so unfair!
naneb - We send progress reports soon!! and y'all just started
judy3ca - Wait, Brad, you're describing my bunch.
Erin - I don't start till Tuesday.
brad - yeesh, nan, it seems like you all were just starting.
brad - seriously judy, whaddaya do?
Erin - My class looks like it's bipolar 1/2 look really good on paper the other half all have some negative comment written....Oh Joy!!!
naneb - I came home and cried! but today they pushed him, literally into my room, I had a classfull taking a social studies test for their regular ed class. I told him if he came in he had to sit down and be quiet. He turned around and left and did not come back
judy3ca - Brad, I'm going to start the infamous reading groups on Monday--that usually gives structure to the day. If the chatter continues--I'm laying down the law.
Erin - brad...is it the whole class? Can you separate some of them ?
brad - did you find him nan
judy3ca - BRB
brad - at least half
naneb - He went back to his class, we have a connecting door
brad - oh
brad - I'm sure you just waved, and said "bye" lol
naneb - i let my two big talkers sit together, they want to talk to each other so I gave up and gave them a table together, I made them a deal that as long as they are quiet and do their work they can sit together, so far so good
judy3ca - Actually, I have some darling kids--and they actually did some great strategy work these three days, but I still want last year's bunch back.
judy3ca - Hi Kim!
Erin - Brad...I was reading something Jan had posted on the discipline board about explicitly modeling "quiet". You tell what it is..."No sound" and you model what it is and what it isn't...it isn't whispering, it isn't tapping pencils
naneb - We all laughed so hard, He looked up at me and turned around and left, He is famous for jumping up and hollering out all the time
Mrs.J/bcps - Brad and Judy, I feel better. I'm having the same problem with my group. We started the 26th
judy3ca - Nice to know we're not alone, LOL.
brad - I'm going to see what happens once routines are up and running. until then, aarrrrgh
naneb - I will say my 6th graders are great!! I love them! They are really low but boy do they work and they ove me too so they will do whatever I say
Mrs.J/bcps - I'm absorbing some second graders starting next Thursday so I will have a 2/3 split half the day (just for language arts). I'm hoping not to have to completely start back at square one with routines
Erin - Brad...did you get the report card information I e-mailed you?
judy3ca - Brad, that's what I'm thinking--the routines will settle it out. The weirdest thing is I have so many kids who, when cautioned, look at me as if I shouldn't be talking to them like that. When I reminded one that he needs to be quiet when I'm giving a lesson, he replied, "But I wanted to tell her something."
naneb - I took mine out into the hall and we practiced and practiced how to come into the class and put things away and do the belwork, objectives etc. The time spent practicing procedures really pays off in the end
judy3ca - Hi cavey!
brad - thank you erin, although one of the pieces would not open. I can never open attachments in that file. I got the report card and the information sheet. but the third thing (forget what it was) I didn't get.
Erin - Last year I didn't practice as much and I paid for it. I will definitely do more procedures this year
naneb - Hi cavey
brad - LOL, Judy.
Erin - It was the powerpoint...I can mail you the hard copy if you need it
cavey - Our inservice this week was on character ed- he said spend days on behavior
Erin - judy....some students are so used to getting their way that we're the ones who appear rude to them for daring to interrupt them
brad - so true, erin
judy3ca - Erin--that's it exactly!
Erin - Judy...since you thought of it...How did "Care" go in your class this week?
naneb - I agree with harry Wong, teach the procedures and you will eliminate most of your problems
cavey - My inservice guy qouted Harry Wong quite a bit
Erin - I was so happy to find "Pierre" in the bookstore. I had a note on our staff whiteboard asking if anyone had it, now half the school wants the book when I'm done
judy3ca - Erin, CARE was pretty spectacular. They gave great examples of caring--and they must have been told about me because one kid wrote: We care about books.
Michelle/3/or - this year has been a real smooth start. It helped that so many of the kids knew me from 1st grade.
Erin - I should ask if anyone has MOT and see what happens
Erin - LOL Judy
brad - What's also nice Judy, is that yours are somewhat familiar with strategies. Mine are like, "huh?"
Erin - Don't good readers sometimes go "huh?"...go with it brad
Mrs.J/bcps - Where is it that you teach again, Brad? And what grade?
cavey - Has everyone started but me?
brad - I've basically decided that it's up to me to provide lots and lots of those thousand literacy experiences they
brad - supposed to receive
Erin - Cavey...I start on Tuesday!!!
naneb - Cavey, He did a presentation for my school on our first day back
brad - LOL erin
cavey - Me too Erin
brad - ohio, second grade
judy3ca - Brad, oh, mine are excellent this year! Here's a great one. We did long lessons each day this week, one metacognition, one text to self, and today text to text. One kid came up with Leo the Late Bloomer connecting to Muggie Maggie and gave a great explanation. I still had to hammer that the point is to deepen understanding, but they did quite well.
brad - inner city dayton
cavey - Nan- Harry Wong?
Erin - I had three days of inservice this week and I'm tired. I don't know how I'll survive next week
naneb - yes, Harry Wong, he was really good
brad - erin, you sound like me last week. brb, did I drink all my drink already?
Michelle/3/or - when I started teaching, they showed Wong's videos at our mentor/mentee meetings. it was horrible. The audio was terrible. There's no substitute for a live person
Erin - brad's probably had a few drinks this week...
cavey - Only I day inservice for me YEAH
brad - erin, I'd have to take off my socks to count
Mrs.J/bcps - Your kids sound so much like mine. I'm in MI. The kids are considered "inner city" but I think from converstations I've seen before, not as "inner city" as yours. You could be talking about my kiddos though
brad - hello, my name's brad and I'm an urban school teacher
Erin - LOL brad
brad - (hello, brad!)
Sadie T - Hello Brad, nice to meet you.... too many drinks?
Mrs.J/bcps - This is the first year my kids have worked with these strategies, so it's tough going right now. I know it will get better though. They just aren't used to being asked to think!
judy3ca - Hi Sadie!!!!
Erin - Hello my name's brad and my class won't shut up!!!
Mrs.J/bcps - LOL, Erin
Sadie T - Hi, Judy
Michelle/3/or - I got my first order from bookcloseouts yesterday. Shared books all day with my class
brad - that's the deal mrs. j. Mine don't know how to "think" yet and that's frustrating. They don't have that little metacognitive voice in their head. (at least, they've never paid attention to it before)
brad - I'm feelin ya
Erin - I'm in total white suburbia...but often times the parents who volunteer a million hours at the school have children who don't do well. Very frustrating
brad - I'm feelin ya' Erin, Can I get an amen?
Michelle/3/or - I have one girl who seems to think she's a middle schooler. She brags "I NEVER think when I read!"
cavey - Michelle- just got my third order
Mrs.J/bcps - Have you taught these strategies before, Brad? Or is this your first year too?
brad - isn't that an interesting phenomenon erin? Or those who have parents who ARE teachers are the worst?
Sadie T - Yikes Michelle, she BRAGS about that?
Erin - Michelle, I ordered once this summer and have another order sitting in my shopping cart. I need to pay for school registration, car registration and homeowner's. But I really want those books!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michelle/3/or - I have 2 students who just transfered in from private schools.
naneb - Erin, I have an order sitting in my shopping cart too!
brad - mrs. j, first year formally. I dabbled in questioning last year, and really liked it.
cavey - Okay watch it brad , you're getting personal
Erin - Thank goodness my son behaves at school. He is at the same school as me
judy3ca - yeah, nan, but aren't we on our sixth orders, LOL?
cavey - Erin - LOL me too! Third grader this year.
Mrs.J/bcps - So, there comes a time when they do "get it", Brad?
brad - judy, what i was saying earlier when you logged and left: I was thinking of you today.
Michelle/3/or - Sadie, yes. it's sad.
Erin - Judy, quit your bragging. Such a high achiever
judy3ca - Erin, LOL!
Erin - Cavey, not only same school but same grade this year. In the classroom next to mine
Michelle/3/or - my son is at my school too.
naneb - Judy I quit counting book orders
brad - I think so, mrs. j. Remember I also had third grade previously. And last year wasn't exactly a low class.
cavey - Erin - one better - in my class half the day!!
naneb - My son went through 9th grade with me at his school, I think high school was a relief for him
Erin - Oh cavey!!! I feel for you!!!
Mrs.J/bcps - My son's starting preschool in my school this year. I live in fear. He is such a terror at home. I expect a knock at my door daily
Michelle/3/or - my son was in my class for reading when I taught 1st grade and he was in Kinder
cavey - Erin - I feel for me too!!!!!
Erin - Mrs. J...my son undergoes a personality change in class.. He drives me nuts at home but wins behavior and academic awards at school
brad - THis is so interesting; your own kids in your class?? I thought they tried to make sure that didn't happen
Erin - Fortunately we have 12 (yes you read that right) third grade classrooms to choose between
cavey - Brad- one horse school
Michelle/3/or - my son has never won behavior awards. but he has his sights set on the Geography Bee in 5th grade.
brad - ok, now it's making sense
judy3ca - Erin, wow, how many kids in your whole school?
Sadie T - Erin... how big is your school then?
Mrs.J/bcps - You know, Erin, lots of people keep telling me that. I hope it's true with mine. I also am thinking the structure of school might help at home. (Please?!) He hasn't really been in that kind of setting before. I pay my parents to watch my kids
Michelle/3/or - my principal already told me that my son can't be in my class next year.
brad - Anyway, Judy. I thought of you because I was whining to my partner across the hall about how I'm AGONIZING over book selection now.
Mrs.J/bcps - 12 third grades? Wow! We only have one class per grade level in my building.
Erin - We have 875 students k-3
Michelle/3/or - we have 5 third grades, but only 2 are English-speaking.
Erin - Mrs. J...my son thrives with the structure...summer gets very long around here
Mrs.J/bcps - We only have 135 k-5!
brad - mrs. j. You would be surprised. My neice was a holy terror until she got in school, and now she's a pretty decent little girl. Same things going on with her little brother, so I'm looking forward to him starting school. LOL
Mrs.J/bcps - Ah, you guys always make me feel better! LOL
Erin - The reason is my district didn't build enough schools for the growth. We have a new elementary opening next fall....hooray
cavey - Erin don't know about you but I've had all the quality time I can handle for one summer
judy3ca - Brad, I'd be happy to help you with book selection if you're working on something I've done. The books I used this week were wonderful and a former student was visiting afterschool today as I was putting out next week's read alouds and he was not happy that some were new and he "hadn't heard them last year." And this from a kid in the 99% on standardized reading tests.
Mrs.J/bcps - Now, if you could all make my strategy instruction magically fall in place this year, I'd really love you! Brad, what do you find different about how you are teaching the 2nd graders this year? I have 3rd, but will have a 2/3 next week. Will I just need to proceed slower?
Erin - LOL cavey, I agree. I'm looking for quality not quantity right now
Michelle/3/or - Today I read one book you recommended, Judy, that I had never heard of before...Painted Words, Spoken Memories. It was great.
brad - Right now, Judy I'm looking for books where the character "learns a lesson" about behavior or some such and also books where characters are readers. Email privately LOL
brad - Michelle, I read that when I launch my Writer's Workshop
judy3ca - Michelle, thanks! That makes me feel so good!
naneb - I am going to bed, night
Erin - brad, I have a bunch of books laid out because I'm not quite sure what to use. Then when I think I know I find another
Erin - Bye nan
cavey - Bye Nan
Sadie T - Good night Nan!
brad - night nan. sleepy nan. est nan (or is it cst)
Mrs.J/bcps - Night, Nan
Erin - brad...share the wealth when judy emails you
naneb - Judy, it sounds terrific, Wait until you hear Sharon and laura, They are so good with their southern accents
judy3ca - Night, Nan!!!1
naneb - oops, that message was for Judy
brad - Michelle, oddly enough, I think I may be having some behavioral problems because I'm not moving fast enough. My population needs lots of structure and things have been just a little too "free" this week, I'm thinking driving home today.
Erin - Yuk, my son just got one of those pizza lunchables where the sauce changes color...it's dark turquoise.
judy3ca - Well, Brad, did you read my highly recommended "Pierre" by Sendak? He sure learns a lesson! And of course, the much discussed Muggie Maggie by Beverly Cleary (which we just blew through in 3 days).
Erin - brad, you may be right. If you keep them busy they may not have time to talk
brad - Just really MODEL MODEL MODEL and break it down to their level. Tell them one thing at a time and then confirm they got it. Have someone model it and then have someone repeat it again. THEN DO IT. (would you all agree?)
Mrs.J/bcps - Haven't heard of those, Erin. Are they new? My kids would probably love them. They are really into the green ketchup and purple ketchup
Michelle/3/or - Erin...I was thinking of you...I got a notice that the author of Words Their Way will be presenting in Portland in December. I might go
Erin - brad, "THe summer my father was ten" is one where the character learns a lesson
brad - Judy, I already was thinking of Pierre. I'd appreciate if you could email your "lesson" on that.
Erin - Mrs. J...lead them to the lunchables section and I'm sure they will find it.
Erin - Michelle, if you can they're great.
Michelle/3/or - I'm reading Muggie Maggie right now too (how did I ever select books before meeting Judy?)
judy3ca - Erin, I LOVE that book!
judy3ca - I mean..The Summer my Father Was Ten--it's beautiful!
judy3ca - Michelle, LOL, thanks.
brad - Michelle did I ever thank you for Daily Five?
cavey - Okay who is the author of that book girls ( pen in hand)?
Michelle/3/or - Yes, last week, brad. You're welcome again.
Erin - cavey, I don't know...at school
Erin - Judy???
brad - WHat about books on not letting life pass you by (cause you're too busy talking?? LOL)
Erin - LOL brad
judy3ca - Pat Brisson
Erin - There has got to be a book about talking too much
brad - LOL, Erin, we seem to be on the same wavelength tonight
cavey - Judy is running out to the bookmobile parked in her driveway to look it up for me
Michelle/3/or - for listening, I like "Listen, Buddy!" I read it to my first graders and they loved it
Mrs.J/bcps - Very impressive, Judy
Erin - I can already sense that this chat is going to cost me big bucks tonite.
brad - Have you ever had salad dressing that tasted so good, you just want to drink it?? (too much to drink or tired, you decide?)
Erin - Good thing I just got paid
judy3ca - cavey, please don't tell my husband about that bookmobile, he thinks it belongs to the neighbors
Erin - What????????? Brad????????
brad - LOL on judy's bookmobile
Michelle/3/or - lol Judy
Erin - Brad is making some odd connections
Mrs.J/bcps - I avoid salads at all costs Brad, therefore, all salad dressings also
brad - erin just lost my wavelenght
judy3ca - Yuck, yuck, yuck!
cavey - Yes Erin, but Amazon lowered their minimum for super saver shipping to 25 dollars!!!!
brad - mrs. J?? How could you?? Salads are good.
Erin - cavey, is that supposed to make me feel better??? LOL
Erin - I love salad, but drinking dressing
Mrs.J/bcps - Ya know, I just can't get into them. It's like chewing a tree
Michelle/3/or - I don't think I've ever had a problem making the minimum dollar amounts on my book orders
brad - don't tell me I have a bunch of "ranch" freaks in here> LOL
Erin - Nope I'm a "caesar" person myself
cavey - Dressing poll? Ceasar
Michelle/3/or - what kind of dressing are you refering to, brad?
brad - Getting back to books though, Michelle what happens in "Listen Buddy"
judy3ca - Caeser, Italian, French, Chinese
Michelle/3/or - I'm non-committal to salad dressings. It takes me a while to decide in restaurants.
brad - Definitely ceasar. any kind of peppercorn kind of thing. Italian's good too. The one i'm having right now is some kind of soy ginger
Erin - Look at brad...such the kiss butt, gets us all of track and then says, "Back to books" (Kiss, kiss kiss)
brad - Look at Erin. Taking Kim's role in keeping me in line while simultaneously poking fun
Michelle/3/or - oh...a rabbit named Buddy doesn't listen. Always does the wrong thing. He's told to brind a slice of bed, instead he brings a slice of bed...
cavey - Erin- drinks for you too?
brad - LOL, Michelle I think I get it, typos and all
Erin - Thanks cavey, strawberry margarita please
Michelle/3/or - finally, he gets in big trouble when he doesn't listen to his parents' directions and meets up with a Scruffy Varmit.
brad - Where's jan this evening?
Michelle/3/or - oops...thanks.
Michelle/3/or - i rarely proofread.
brad - ok, i have to rescue daughter from son's evil clutches, brb
Erin - Probably still figuring out expository versus narrative
Michelle/3/or - bring a slice of bread....brings a slice of bed....you know
brad - (and get more dressing)
Erin - Michelle, that sounds like a great book for teaching about the iimportance of listening..I am writing it down
Michelle/3/or - it's by Helen Lester
judy3ca - Do you guys know the book Aunt Isabel Tells a Good One by Kate Duke? It made my WW excellent today--and the kids loved it and were quiet!
cavey - lost in cyberspace for a minute
cavey - writing furiously again
Erin - No, but I am writing it down.
Michelle/3/or - WW is not my strongest area...what did you use the book to teach, Judy?
Mrs.J/bcps - What's that one about Judy
cavey - need more post its
judy3ca - Oh, Helen Lester!!! She's great. I love Hooway for Wodney Wat!
judy3ca - It's about storytelling, but told in an enchanting way. And it's paperback.
judy3ca - We're working on storytelling to lead up to IDEAS. We're telling a lot of stories--and the book is excellent because the Aunt tells the niece a great story--but they throw in words like character, setting, problem, etc.
Erin - Judy, are they verbally telling the stories? What are you having them do?
judy3ca - And, boy would the parents be unhappy if they knew some of the stories we've heard, LOL.
Erin - Michelle, I feel weak in WW also
Sadie T - Judy, is it a "childish" book? Could it possibly work with older, um, high school students with low vocabulary skills?
Michelle/3/or - thanks, judy. I'll look for that book. We've been working on ideas too. though today I did a thing exploring what a Writer's journal looks like. I used Going Home. I imagine Eve Bunting driving to Mexico, taking notes on what she sees on the way.
Mrs.J/bcps - ooh, sounds good Judy. You know, I'm going to have to get WW. I've heard you all talking about it so much. I'm just resisting right now since I have so many books I haven't read yet!
Michelle/3/or - maybe I should have done Ideas more first, before moving on.
judy3ca - Sadie, umm, yes, I think it's too childish--the characters are animals.
Erin - You can always go back Michelle.
Michelle/3/or - I am still working very slowly through that book. Our school's Literacy Coordinator has it on order so we can go through it together, she and I
Sadie T - Okay then. No talking animals in my class!
judy3ca - Sadie, LOL!
cavey - Michelle, I'm about half way through , love it, but trying to absorb everything
Mrs.J/bcps - Michelle, I'm assuming the OR is for Oregon. Where abouts are you?
Erin - My neighbor teacher and I are going to try to implement Wondrous Words
brad - Well, I guess I won't be In Sadie's class
Erin - Hi Glenda!!! (who is still a member of ESIA)
cavey - Hi Glenda - Are you the new ESIA membership coordinator?
Mrs.J/bcps - Brad's back! Kids ok?
Erin - brad, did you drown your sorrows in a bottle of salad dressing?
Michelle/3/or - I am between Portland and Salem.
Glenda 1st TN - Only if drafted Cavey
brad - speaking of drowning sorrows, brb
Mrs.J/bcps - My district sent a bunch of us to Portland last summer to go to the Learning Network Conference. It was beautiful. My first plane ride! Then 9/11 happened. Haven't been on one since
cavey - Glenda consider it done!
diane - how was your first week, judy?
brad - Brad's kids are just DMC. Driving Me Crazy.
diane - mrs.j, i'm in a suburb of portland...gorgeous evening here tonight
brad - but now all's beautiful. Spanked them all soundly and sent them to bed
Michelle/3/or - I think Portland is the best city.
judy3ca - Diane, so-so. I'm not in love with this bunch like I was with last year's class. Time will tell. Thanks.
Mrs.J/bcps - LOL, Brad. I think we are kindred spirits!
Mrs.J/bcps - Mine are 2, 4, and 8
cavey - Erin - it's okay he's self medicating
Glenda 1st TN - Okay , Cavy, but realize I'm an overachiever and I tend to over organize. I just might have us all going crazy.
judy3ca - Oh, no, San Francisco is the best city!
brad - (I hope everyone thinks I'm kidding. Hello, my name's Brad I'm an urban alcoholic teacher who beats children)
cavey - It's okay Glenda we're already there!
Erin - LOl cavey...fortunately I don't think he knows what we're talking about
diane - lol...i already know most all of my kids since there's only the one class...sadly i already know i'm not quite as in love...at least not yet
Sadie T - Notice he says "I hope everyone THINKS I'm kidding." Not "I hope everyone knows...."
diane - lol, sadie
Erin - I'm an urban alcoholic, dressing chugging, child beating, salad loving teacher
judy3ca - diane, maybe we're just slow starters this year--after all, I've only had them 3 days.
brad - I love it (dressing chugging)
Michelle/3/or - good observation, Sadie
Mrs.J/bcps - Diane and Judy, that's exactly how I'm feeling too.
diane - could be, judy, i don't even have them until next wednesday
Sadie T - Where is Kim anyway?
brad - Well I'm sure you all answered all my questions on literacy while I was gone and we can get back to more important things like dressings checks.
Glenda 1st TN - OOps, I've had my kids for two weeks.
judy3ca - ROFL at dressing checks, Brad!
brad - I haven't heard from kim in two days, which is unusual
Michelle/3/or - questions? were there questions? I'm so tired, I can hardly think to type....
cavey - Kim is still throwing away Pendaflex folders
diane - so, send positive thoughts my way...my mother had her knee replaced today
Erin - And brad is still trying to figure out what one is
brad - If there was some children's literature out there about salad dressing, I'm sure Judy would know the title ROFL
judy3ca - Michelle, me, too--about being tired. I was trying to remember the books I read aloud this week (3 days worth) and I can't !
Glenda 1st TN - Michelle, you should have taken a 3 hour nap like I did. I crashed at 6:so in the middle of the news and woke up at 9:30
brad - No, I know what they are now. Although not issued to us, I have them because I buy and use them.
judy3ca - Hmmm, thinking....
Michelle/3/or - ohhh...so funny. I was thinking of Kim yesterday. When my class and I returned from recess on thursday, what was on my table but a brand-spanken-new box of PENDAFLEX!!
Sadie T - Diane, sending positive thoughts... how's she doing?
brad - But I still don't need new supply each year, because I REUSE each year (imagine! no wonder our school districts never have enough money to give us a raise)
judy3ca - Diane, thinking of your mom.
Erin - How are all of you so lucky!!! to have them given to you. We must purchase these treasures with our supply money if we want to be so blessed as to file in them
brad - If Judy comes up with a book on salad dressing I'll pass out
brad - (and no, it's not the wine)
diane - thanks, sadie, she's too drugged up to tell...quietest that woman has been in years, though (-:
cavey - Erin - I have a pampered chef utensil holder that spins for all my pens aren't you jealous?
Erin - brad, we get it..reuse paper clips, reuse pendaflex, alright Mr. Green
Erin - cavey ROFLOL
diane - ooo, cavey, great idea...i'm a pen fiend
brad - LOL Cavey. I have dish drainers sitting on my tables and everyone walking in says, "What's these for?"
Michelle/3/or - i need pens. especially green, or purple
Erin - But I like the idea cavey. Anyone having a Pampered Chef party?
brad - By the way, I've been a chart-a-holic this year.
Sadie T - Dish drainers?
Michelle/3/or - my sister sells Pampered Chef
Glenda 1st TN - Okay Brad what are the dish drainers for?
Sadie T - Michelle, green pens are the best.
brad - The place for spoons and forks hold writing utensils and the plate section holds notebooks
Glenda 1st TN - Great idea.
Erin - well goshdarnit, that is a great idea brad!
judy3ca - Tell us about your charts, Brad. I love charts. The Lit Coach practically passed out with joy when she saw the Venn diagram the kids made today.
Michelle/3/or - where do the dish towels go?
Mrs.J/bcps - What are they for?Books?
cavey - Oh Brad the master of ingenuity
brad - Green pens always remind me of my college English professor (fondly)
diane - damp dish towels of course
brad - I haven't got the dishtowels yet.
Mrs.J/bcps - Ok, my computer is slow, you already answered that question
Sadie T - or wet blankets
cavey - It's okay Mrs.J - my brain is slow
Erin - It's a bummer though when someone puts their coffee mug there to dry!!!
judy3ca - mine, too, cavey
Glenda 1st TN - Who can keep up with their coffee cup?
Erin - I can't Glenda, that's why I go through the drive through
cavey - Brad, arent you going to get us back on track?
brad - Well we've done interviews on charts Judy ("That's a 4B thing) and then we've also charted how to become a better reader (using "Drawing Lessons from a Bear" by David McPhail) and we've charted ways to record counting in math. We also charted Marshall's Levels of Behavior (and put morning messages on chart paper) But I plan to chart much more in coming weeks
brad - What's this I missed about coffee mugs?
judy3ca - Good work, Brad! That sounds wonderful.
Erin - "Drawing Lessons from a Bear?
diane - brad, great start!
Michelle/3/or - Bears draw?
diane - i'm getting really anxious for the kids to come...i think i finished my room too early!
Erin - Yes, Michelle, but not well!
cavey - Okay, I love David McPhail - what's the bear book I thought he only did pigs
Glenda 1st TN - Sounds great Brad. I'm afraid I've not been able to do as much 4 blocks as I had hoped. I have a student teacher and I thought I'd wait until she leaves before I try to do too much.
brad - Pick it up, Erin. We charted "Lessons on Becoming a Better Draw-er from a Bear" He does things like "draws a lot" "teacher helps" "tries to copy better drawings". Then the next day, I crossed out everywhere it said drawing and wrote reading. It works
Erin - brad, sounds great. I've added it to my list (which is becoming increasingly long tonite)
brad - Glenda, 1st year with strategies but 4th with four blocks, so I get that up and running pretty quickly.
Erin - If this keeps up I won't be able to chat on Fridays
Michelle/3/or - Oh...it would work well in my class with Writing, I think
Sadie T - Only on Fridays at the end of the month Erin... LOL
brad - "reads a lot" "teacher helps" "tries to copy better readers". . .
Erin - Sadie, LOL, when I get paid
Erin - ((((JAN))))
Michelle/3/or - writes a lot...tries to copy better writers...
Sadie T - Hi Jan!
cavey - There you are Jan!!!
brad - there's jan'; (she's sick of me)
Glenda 1st TN - Hi Jan, I'm glad you made it.
Erin - Good idea Michelle
Michelle/3/or - yay, Jan's here!
Mrs.J/bcps - hi, Jan
brad - I'm thinking it could work for that too Michelle. I use Spoken Words Painted Memories to open my Writer's Workshop
diane - hi jan
Jan - Just dropping by to say hello...back in town from a 3-day workshop and I am pooped. Putting it mildly.
Michelle/3/or - I'm trying to copy better thinkers
Erin - Jan we were just discussing narrative versus expository....just kidding
brad - Have some salad dressing, Jan.
Glenda 1st TN - Brad, I'm trying to start strategies and 4 blocks. I'm following the small bites and small steps theory.
Sadie T - Jan beware of Brad's salad dressing
Jan - I quoted ALL of you in my workshop! You are my new "research."
Erin - Just beware of brad
diane - lol, michele...i'm always trying to copy better thinkers
cavey - And his drinks Jan
Michelle/3/or - how did you use that book for Writing, Brad?
Jan - We have salad dressing? Is this for the ragout?
judy3ca - Wow, Jan, what did we say, LOL?
brad - Somewhere at the end of the story, He says something like, "we all have stories to tell. We can become a Room of Writers." Or something like that. It's just a good opening
cavey - Oh Canada Hi!!!!
Glenda 1st TN - Jan, wish me luck, I start my RWM discussion group next Thursday.
Jan - I could talk about reading strategies as if I actually KNEW something about them!
brad - I then say to them. "LEt's make our room a room of writers too and tell our stories. . ."
Michelle/3/or - oh, yeah! i thought of that when I finished that line, wishing I had used it in WW....but i still could.
diane - brad, do you have the author on that last book?
brad - which one diane, Spoken Words?
diane - sorry...that's the one i meant
brad - aliki
Michelle/3/or - did you mention Synthesis, Jan?
diane - thanks!
Jan - Glenda, that is so exciting. Can't wait to hear the report.
brad - (gee that drink went fast too)
brad - Jan, is this another one of those acronym workshops?
cavey - Erin- cut him off
judy3ca - Okay, friends, I'm falling asleep at the keyboard. Good night, all!
Jan - Michelle, oh, yes...we talk a lot about Bloom. I felt particularly well-informed on synthesis this time around.
Glenda 1st TN - Thanks Jan, I've developed a syllabus for us to follow. I'm trying now to come up with some discussion starters in case the groups fall flat. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Michelle/3/or - good night, Judy.
diane - night judy, sleep well!
Erin - brad, put the salad dressing away, that is enough for the night
brad - oh, judy, please let me know about pierre or any others that come to mind. sweet dreams
Sadie T - Judy, and you're on Pacific time... LOL Good night!
cavey - Oh Judy I've only spent about 20 or 30 dollars because of you tonight can't you stay longer?
Jan - Nope, no acronyms, Brad. We call it Effective Instruction. We are changing title to Advanced Analysis of Instruction for administrators!
brad - Well, Glenda, as Jan would say, you could always talk about the way she sets up procedures. She's the reason I didn't "jump right into" strategies. and boy I'm glad I didn't. We're spending september setting up routines before jumpin in
Erin - Sorry Sadie...I thought you were saying good night to all of us. LOL.. I apologize, don't leave
brad - maybe Sadie's drinking. she doesn't know if she's leaving or not
Michelle/3/or - Yes, the whole Classroom Climate section is great to discuss
cavey - Well, I'm so glad we had this time together
Jan - Glad you said that Sadie...I just was scrolling back to see if you had left.
brad - in fact, i might re-read it this long weekend
cavey - Just to share a laugh or sing a song
Erin - Don't transfer your problems onto others brad. That's being in denial
Sadie T - It's the salad dressing, Brad
brad - now cavey's leaving?
cavey - Seems we just get started and before you know it
Jan - cavey, you are very funny...
Glenda 1st TN - Good point Brad. I've tried to "slow down" the rush to start in on the many lessons this year and my group is reall y responding.
Alta Rose - School starts for us on Tuesday. I am excited about implementing MOT for the first time.
cavey - Comes the time I have to say ( everybody now)
brad - I saw her on Mama's Family today
brad - "Goodnight everyone"
cavey - So long ( tugging ear and showing age) Night guys!
Jan - Good bye! (Right, cavey?)
Erin - "More salad dressing everyone?"
Alta Rose - You know you're getting old when some of your collegues don't rememeber Carol B. That happened to me last year!
Alta Rose - Night, Cavey!
Glenda 1st TN - Make mine honey mustard.
Sadie T - Good bye whoever's leaving...
diane - night cavey!
brad - Carol B?? Is that a rapper?
cavey - Jan - long and song rhyme
Jan - Right, it IS "So long."
Glenda 1st TN - Very funny Brad.
brad - mmm. . . honey mustard
Michelle/3/or - "goodnight everyone"? isn't that from the Donny and Marie show? oh...that's Goodnight Everybody!
Alta Rose - Lol, Brad!
Sadie T - Alta... should I ask, or just let that go by in silent ignorance?
Jan - Got it, cavey. Too much synthesis this week.
brad - okay, I'm trying to think now. What was Donnie and Marie's song?
Alta Rose - Ask what, Sadie?
brad - somehting about purple socks?
Michelle/3/or - I had one or two of their records....
Sadie T - Who is Carol B?
Erin - I'm a Little Bit Country
Mrs.J/bcps - Ok, Brad, I found a book. From Seed to Salad by Johnson and Dorn. It's a children's book showing you how to create a small garden and then make three salad dressings.
Michelle/3/or - I remember the closing song real well, but not the opening right now.
Alta Rose - Carol Burnett.
brad - I know they did "A little bit country, a little bit rock-n-roll" but that wasn't their closer
diane - carol burnett
Erin - Yeah Mrs. J
diane - i'm afraid i really only know her from her guest run on mad about you
brad - ROFL MRS> J> GET OUT!! (shove)
Michelle/3/or - May tomorrow be a perfect day. May you find love and laughter along the way. May God keep you in his tender care, till he brings us together again..
diane - too funny, mrs j
brad - ohmighosh. how serious are you diane.
brad - ohmighosh. how serious are you diane.
Jan - Sadie, who is Carol B?! You must have had a tough week. LOL
Sadie T - LOL Mrs J!!
Alta Rose - Very good, Michelle!
Mrs.J/bcps - But don't get too excited. It's out of print. Maybe Judy has a copy though!
Mrs.J/bcps - Or Jan?
brad - Good for you Michelle. And you knew the words. That's impressive.
Sadie T - Sorry. Braindead.
Jan - Brad, why are you saying everything twice?
diane - well...how serious i am depends on what's going on around me, i suppose...
Alta Rose - Oh, you ARE young, diane! Lol!
Erin - I wish we had audio, I can't remeber the tune
brad - hit enter button twice
brad - i thought you were my friend
Erin - brad, hum a few bars would you?
diane - i'm 32...but my parents didn't let me watch television...could that be it?
brad - that could be it diane
diane - sheesh, brad, to think a little thing like a tv show could stand between us, brad...you are fickle
Jan - Copy? of what, Mrs. J---I seem to be having trouble focusing!
Erin - Diane, I don't remember it either
Mrs.J/bcps - Brad's salad dressing book is out of print. From Seed to Salad
diane - thanks erin...we stand together in solidarity!
brad - i take my tv very seriously diane. I once didn't speak to my wife for a whole week because she couldn't remember which one was Kate and which one was Allie
Erin - Amen, sister
Alta Rose - It was in the era of the variety shows! Course, when I was a kid we only had two channels, so everyone knew the Carol B. show!
Jan - Oh, sorry...that's one book I don't have!
Erin - Lord help us as we deal with brad
Michelle/3/or - Brad...that's serious. Funny!
diane - lol...believe it or not, i was talking about kate and allie last night!
brad - Amen had that guy from the Jeffersons erin
Erin - Actually brad's wife did that on purpose so she wouldn't have to talk to them. "NO honey I really don't remember" Now get out and leave me in peace
brad - It'
Michelle/3/or - I watched Carol Burnett as a kid. Of course, my favorite part was always the closing cartoon where she scratches her behind
diane - we were trying to remember which one was which
Erin - "That guy" is the best you can do brad?
brad - It's too bad it's out of print because I just might buy it to taunt you all with salad dressings. Look in your stocking this christmas
Sadie T - Well, not a children's book, but... how about "Salad Dressing: Hidden Blessing" by B. Russel Sprout?
brad - LOL, Michelle. My next door neighbor used to do that. "coo coo pigeon"
Glenda 1st TN - Wasn't his name George?
brad - Sherman Helmsley
Jan - Sadie, LOL
Mrs.J/bcps - Sherman something right?
Mrs.J/bcps - Geez, beat me again, Brad. You have a faster computer
Michelle/3/or - is that for real, Sadie?
brad - Jane Curtin was Allie. Susan St. James was Kate. (she was also on Mcmillan and Wife with Rock Hudson and Rhoda's Mom, the Quicker Picker Upper)
Jan - Brad, you really DO know your television! Sherman Helmsley!
Sadie T - I wanna see how long you guys spend LOOKING for it before I tell you if it's real or not.
Mrs.J/bcps - How do you find time to teach with all that tv, Brad?
brad - It's a curse. I could write MOT for television strategies
Erin - LOL Mrs. J
Mrs.J/bcps - LOL, Brad
diane - susan st james was the name we were trying to come up with...i think she was in a bad movie about housewives stealing money from a huge ball in the middle of a mall
Michelle/3/or - are there strategies for tv? Maybe for remote control usage?
Jan - Now that's an idea, Brad---easier than teaching!
brad - The question is How do I find time for drinking with all that teaching and TV watching. LOL
Erin - There are strategies for T.V.? 1.) Remote control activation 2.) Learning to use the T,V. guide
Mrs.J/bcps - I bet my kids would do better with those strategies than they are doing now!
brad - LOL Diane, I remember that movie!!! ROFLMAOPMP
Erin - Michelle, great minds
Jan - My remote just went through the washer, Michelle. If you know of a strategy to help, I'll be happy to listen
Michelle/3/or - use the kids as waiters.
brad - I can't remember if Susan St. James was in it or not though
diane - how to beat the high cost of living...
brad - Jan??? That's sacrilege
Erin - Strategy #3. Justifying your t.v. watching to your spouse
Mrs.J/bcps - The washer?
diane - yep, i think she was the athletic housewife that paddled the canoe in the river
diane - movie was filmed in eugene
Erin - #4. How to avoid watching Barney for the millionth time
Glenda 1st TN - Jan, I recommend Wal-Mart
Michelle/3/or - unscrew the back and allow to air dry. replace batteries.
brad - Diane, you know too much about that movie. LOL
Mrs.J/bcps - Ours got submerged in kool-aid, and taking the back off worked for us
brad - I wonder what she's up to these days.
diane - it's truly bizarre what i seem to stuff into my brain...ask me anything about geography and i am useless...
Jan - I agree, Glenda. Wal Mart it is.
Alta Rose - Hey, no Barney-Bashing allowed! Lol!
brad - I'm not gonna ask, Mrs. J
Erin - That's a good I wonder question brad
Mrs.J/bcps - 2 year old, Brad
Jan - I am drying the remote as we speak. I will see what happens.
Michelle/3/or - I've had the grilled-cheese-in-vcr experience...
Erin - Say no more Mrs. J...we all have been there
brad - isnt that true Diane. Every time Margaret Colin comes on, I think of this obscure eighties half-life sitcom she starred in called "Foley's Square" And you guys probably don't even know who Margaret Colin IS , let alone recognize that show
Mrs.J/bcps - ooh, Michele. That's a more expensive one
brad - Or Suzanne Pleshette as Maggie Briggs. Bizarre??
Glenda 1st TN - Brad, you make me think of my husband. He too is full of trival info. We tease him that what he doesn't know he makes up. Does this apply to you too?
Mrs.J/bcps - Wasn't she on As the World Turns as Margo?
Erin - Michelle, you cook grilled cheese on the stove
Jan - I know who M. Colin is. She used to be in As the World Turns!
Mrs.J/bcps - Margaret Colin that is
brad - Probably Glenda. I have a good Memorizing kind of head.
brad - Exactly. Oh my gosh, you do know her.
Jan - Suzanne Pleshette? I used to eat at the same restaurant where she was!
Erin - All right. I gotta go. Waking up at the crack of dawn to go to a motorcycle race.
diane - i went to high school with someone that used to be on as the world turns...
brad - erin, awww, night
diane - night erin
Glenda 1st TN - Have fun Erin.
Erin - Loved the salad dressing and t.v. trivia, but I must tear myself away
Alta Rose - Good night, Erin.
Mrs.J/bcps - who, diane?
Erin - Talk to you guys later
brad - how can you "used to eat" at same restaurant jan>
Jan - diane, you're kidding! What part did she play.
Sadie T - Good night Erin
Michelle/3/or - good night, erin
Jan - Night, erin
diane - the girl that played andy dixon's wife/girlfriend who had the eating disorder...
brad - LOL, Jan's a ATWT watcher. I knew she couldn't spend all that time looking up synthesis and expository
Jan - Neither she nor I go there anymore---the restaurant closed up!
diane - i'm a little embarassed (well, a lot actually) that i know the characters' names
Jan - I now watch Young and Restless---gave up ATWT
brad - Jan's fickle
Jan - diane, I'm impressed! Tjat beats going to college with Batman like I did.
Jan - Oops---the word is "that's"
Jan - Oops, the word is "that."
diane - well...not really, she wasn't the nicest person in the world...i have also seen her in commercials for, ahem, feminie products...cracks me up! she's also filled in as harley on guiding light
Sadie T - Jan, you've been drinking too much salad dressing too?
Alta Rose - (trying to get in the loop, here) OK, my sister-in-law went to kindergarten with Michael J. Fox.
diane - i'm not sure anything beats batman
brad - I used to like Password too. <low voice> The word is "that"
Glenda 1st TN - Hey guys, before too many of us leave for the night, I'd like to let you know I'm going to show my RWM group our little chat board hear on T.Net next Thursday after school. Would some of you post a welcome to them? Just call them the Rutherford County Reading With Meaning Group.
diane - oh, our new first grade teacher went to high school with tom hanks...that one beats all
Jan - That dressing will get you every time!
Sadie T - Diane, I agree, that does!
Mrs.J /bcps - I hate when that happens. I was lost in cyberspace
diane - sure glenda
Alta Rose - Sure, Glenda. Remind us?
Michelle/3/or - I only have connections to local news reporters....nothing special like you all
Sadie T - So Glenda when your group visits should we try to act normal or just be our usual selves? LOL
diane - oh, michelle, i was in the oregonian yesterday!
Michelle/3/or - really, diane? why?
diane - i think only washington county got it though
Jan - Tom Hanks! Yikes...she should get tenure right away.
brad - I'll greet them with a round of salad dressing and a plate of frosted ragout
Mrs.J /bcps - brb
diane - photo essay on teachers geting ready for back to school...
Glenda 1st TN - Sadie, just be your lovely self. Now we might need to coach Brad just a little bit.
Alta Rose - Are you tired of Ho Hos, Brad?
Jan - I know the Oregonian! What famous thing did you do, diane?
Sadie T - Yeah, we'll have to coach Brad. LOL
Catherine - hey anyone teacthers here
Michelle/3/or - oh...I thought it would have something to do with the budget thing or something. but that's pretty neat! are you pictured?
Sadie T - Hi Catherine!
brad - One can NEVER tire of ho ho's . Did you ever find any?
Catherine - anyone teachers here press 123
Glenda 1st TN - Oh Brad, I take it back how southern of you to greet us with ragout and salad dressing.
brad - well I would have sweet tea, but I am a yankee.
diane - lol, jan, i was helping a colleague organize her class library by genre...thrilling stuff
brad - LOL, sweet tea
Alta Rose - No. I looked in the city I'm close to, in Wal-mart, thinking they might have them there since they're American. No luck. But I have Tim Horton's ice cappucinos!
diane - my father did inform me that my mother cut it out of the paper to take to the hospital and show everyone...god help me
Glenda 1st TN - Poor Brad, my daughter sends her regards.
brad - glenda, huh?
Jan - diane, take whatever publicity you can get! Congratulations.
Catherine - HEY ANY TEACHERS HERE PRESS 123
brad - I had someone ask for sweet tea one day when I was waiting tables and I was like, "do what?" I had to go ask what it was.
Michelle/3/or - was that today, diane? i know you already said..but i forgot
diane - what are you talking about, catherine?
Catherine - hi sandi
Catherine - are you a teacher
Glenda 1st TN - Jessica is crazy about sweet tea. She feels so sorry for you yankees who don't put sugar in your tea.
diane - what michelle? the paper was yesterday...surgery was today
Michelle/3/or - brad, I had the same thing happen to me when I waited tables...I told them they could put sugar in it if they wanted.
Jan - Phone call - I'm off. Good night, all!
Catherine - are anyone school teachers press 123
brad - me too
Alta Rose - Yankees don't put sugar in their tea?
diane - what is sweet tea?
Sadie T - Giid night Jan!
Sadie T - I mean Good night
Michelle/3/or - oh, good. so I can call my aunt and uncle and have them save the picture for me.
Mrs.J/bcps - you're not making sense Catherine
diane - oh dear, michelle...
brad - Some do Alta, but we don't have the audacity to assume everyone does and call it SWEET TEA. (now the ho ho's are gonna fly)
Glenda 1st TN - Okay, sweet tea is made by making hot tea and adding a lot of sugar when the tea is still hot. It doesn't desolve as well in the tea once it is iced. We have a restaurant here in M'boro that puts sugar water on the table so people can sweeten their tea. A big hit with my family
brad - LOL, Mrs. J. about Catherine
Michelle/3/or - that's the thing....some of those places in the south serve all their ice tea pre-sweetened!
diane - ahhh...my teeth hurt just reading that!
Alta Rose - Interesting! Here, we just add our own sugar if we want it.
brad - What a concept, huh, Alta?? LOL
diane - okay, my husband is waiting for me to start the movie....gotta run
Mrs.J/bcps - What a simple concept, eh, Alta Rose?
brad - what movie
diane - the rookie
Sadie T - Bye Diane
Alta Rose - Night, diane!
Michelle/3/or - written by a Portland guy!
Michelle/3/or - goodnight diane!
brad - enjoy diane
Mrs.J/bcps - Must go, I think. It's after midnight and children have konked out all over the house instead of in their beds
Glenda 1st TN - Your right Michelle, We went on vacation this year to Gulf Port Mississippi. The restaurants there did not serve sweetened tea. My daughter told them they were still in the south and should serve sweet tea. We just say we have gone to far south to get sweet tea when we go to Florida.
Sadie T - Hey do those of you who have started school already, all have Monday off?
diane - night
brad - monday off here
Sadie T - Good night Mrs. J
Mrs.J/bcps - We had today off and have Monday too
Alta Rose - Good night Mrs. J.
brad - lol, mrs. j
Michelle/3/or - yes, we do here Sadie
Alta Rose - What are your class sizes like?
Glenda 1st TN - We have Monday off
brad - doesn't everyone??
Mrs.J/bcps - Our state made it a law that we have a four day weekend--for the tourist industry
Michelle/3/or - I have 25 kids.
brad - 22 alta
Glenda 1st TN - Alta, I have 15 first graders.
Michelle/3/or - 9 girls, 16 boys
brad - That was my class last year. Michelle.
Mrs.J/bcps - I had 18. I'll have 25 on Thursday
Glenda 1st TN - What state Mrs. J?
brad - Exactly
Mrs.J/bcps - Michigan
Sadie T - Largest class 37, smallest 12 (high school)
brad - is the 12 nice, Sade
brad - michelle?
Alta Rose - That sounds pretty good. Especially 15! My son is going into a class of 30 Grade 4s. :')
Sadie T - The class with only 12 students is *amazingly wonderful*
brad - i think you already did that michelle
Michelle/3/or - this was my class two years ago, brad! except only 6 girls then
brad - you know what they say that means, michelle
Michelle/3/or - what, brad?
Glenda 1st TN - Sadie, I had only 12 first graders last year. It was the hardest year I've ever taught. I had sooooo many special needs students, it almost did me in.
Michelle/3/or - too much dressing?
Sadie T - It really depends on the students. I've had small classes that were much harder than larger classes.
Alta Rose - Did you have any teacher's assistance, Glenda.
Sadie T - But, I think over 30 students is ALWAYS difficult.
brad - there will be so many boys because there will be a war in about 15 years when they're all "of age." There's a lot of boy-heavy classes in my bulding too.
Mrs.J/bcps - Ok, husband out in recliner too. Going for real this time
Glenda 1st TN - I had an E.A. for 30 min. a day.
Michelle/3/or - oh, yeah.
Mrs.J/bcps - Bye
Michelle/3/or - well, the year behind it has the same ratio!
eilene3il - Hey, guys. Just popping in. Michelle says you're talking class size
Sadie T - 12 can really be a lot when they have special needs, Glenda. That's hard.
brad - wars don't just last for a year, Michelle. LOL
Sadie T - Hi Eilene!
Alta Rose - Hi Eilene!
brad - eilene, never just pop in. Pull up a chair. Have some salad
Michelle/3/or - I know...I'm agreeing with your point. scary thing is, my son is in that group.
brad - I know,
eilene3il - Salad? Love some, brad. Oh, thanks for the advice on the Frank Shaffer stuff, too. Hello, to everyone
brad - And how do you know Michelle?
Michelle/3/or - hi, eilene. what's your boy/girl ratio?
eilene3il - Boys 19, girls 11
brad - suddenly i just got 3 emails. must be mass mailing junk
Glenda 1st TN - Sadie I broke it down : 5 boys - 2 with emotional needs 2 ADHD and their meds were not right. 7 Girls: 3 of them repeating first, 2 in Title I ended up with only 2 students out of 12 that did not receive some type of service outside the classroom and was not a repeater.
Michelle/3/or - wow, glenda, that's incredible!
eilene3il - Last year I began with the similar amount, but by the end it was more of 16 boys, 12 girls (with all the transfers, and such)
Alta Rose - Were you purposely given all those sped kids, glenda?
brad - oh, glenda, sit, have a glass of sweet tea.
Michelle/3/or - hhmmm.....eilene doesn't want to admit how she knows me....
eilene3il - I did!! I answered you, Michelle
eilene3il - Why would I ignore my one and only coherent source of Prof. Reading Lit?
brad - Eilene is your EVIL TWIN SISTER who threw you down the well and took your husband after murdering your best friend (played by Margaret Colin)
Glenda 1st TN - Smile, I'm not sure why I ended up with so many. The other first grade teachers had several behavior problems too. Mine just seemed to be more severe. It all served a purpose. It changed the way I teach and led me to this chatboard, and 4 Blocks. God does have a purpose.
Alta Rose - brb--Daughter's friend is dying her hair. Better go check on things!
Michelle/3/or - brad STEP AWAY FROM THE SALAD DRESSING
Sadie T - Glenda, I see what you mean. And I think it would be MUCH easier to have a class of twice as many students all on-grade-level, non-ADHD, not special needs kids.
brad - Oh, Glenda, how very sunny-side-of-the-street of you. That's a good outlook.
eilene3il - Oh, sorry brad, I never saw the post. I'm exhausted. I know Michelle from another board...er, not quite the "professional" one like this
Glenda 1st TN - Trust me Brad it wasn[t so sunny last year.
Sadie T - Alta - dying her own hair or your daughter's?
Glenda 1st TN - What color Alta?
brad - you know michelle from the "trading salad dressing recipes chatboard"
eilene3il - I used to color my hair, now I'm just losing it!
brad - (the "porno website mailring?")
eilene3il - Exactly, brad. that and the How to Toss the Salad to Perfection board
Michelle/3/or - for goodness sakes...I'll say it...the Harry Potter boards (but I'm out of that phase now)
Alta Rose - Dying my daughter's hair! Just a few thin strips, though. (Pink)
Glenda 1st TN - Your a good mom.
brad - Where are Harry Potter boards? (serious)
Sadie T - Well, pink's okay. I was afraid it would be some unnatural color....
Michelle/3/or - and she met the Air Force pilots with me in Vegas
eilene3il - www.harrypotter.com
brad - oh geez, AGAIN with the pilots
Alta Rose - Lol, Sadie!
eilene3il - Yep, that was me. Then, brad you go to Platform 93/4 for the dialogue center. It's not a chat, just a message board
Glenda 1st TN - Don't put down the pilots, My husband was in the air force. I like those uniforms.
brad - Michelle, you and I both know you'll be lighting up the boards over there again when number five comes out next year (we all hope)
eilene3il - Sadie, my niece died her hair blue (streaks)
brad - so if it's just message board, how'd you two hook up?
Michelle/3/or - we'll see. this board and the mosaicteachers thing really keep me busy these days.
Alta Rose - This dye doesn't last long.
eilene3il - We posted messages and realized that we had a lot in common, then started chatting.
Michelle/3/or - lots of messages....and she came to visit me over Spring Break
brad - When they announce the publication date I'm thinking of re-reading the series
eilene3il - Oh, and saw Lord of the Rings!
brad - See, how books bring people together?
Glenda 1st TN - Alta, my hairdresser cuts my son's hair and will spray it a color just to torment (sp) his father. It washes out.
eilene3il - Well, brad, it should be out around Jan 2003
brad - I'll probably read #2 again some time soon since movies' coming out in Nov
Michelle/3/or - I've read all those books so often, I almost have them memorized. I was in a reading rut for a while
brad - who says, eilene?
Alta Rose - I was hoping my daughter would get it "out of her system" last time, but no.
eilene3il - Someone I know from Scholastic
brad - everyone laughs, but they really are good books. Have you read the Unfortunate Events series by Lemony Snickett?
Glenda 1st TN - How old is she? Just remember this too will pass.
Michelle/3/or - I have the set in my classroom, brad.
eilene3il - Sadie & Glenda, I would dye my hair so often when I was 18 or so, that now it just is so fine and thin. Can't handle any chemicals anymore.
brad - I read it (some) in read aloud. the first one. It's too hard for third
brad - they like listening, but they can't read
eilene3il - I read the first book for third. After the first chapter, they were fine.
Michelle/3/or - really? i had a couple girls who really got into the books last year.
Glenda 1st TN - I understand eilene, did you use the bleach to make it blonde?
eilene3il - The second book is beyond my kid's "ken" because they can't identify with Lockhart. That's beyond their experience
brad - you probably have higher readers than me michelle. I had one who attempted but took long time and I was never quite sure if he was REALLY getting it
Michelle/3/or - I didn't read it to them, except the back of the 1st book in Book Talk
eilene3il - Glenda, I used those sun-in things, and it turned into a nice shade of orange
Alta Rose - shes' going into Gr. 7.
Sadie T - I've got to go... don't drink too much salad dressing... or use it to dye your hair.
Sadie T - Good night
brad - so have you read Lemony Snickett?
Alta Rose - I won't let her wear makeup yet. A lot of her friends were wearing it in Gr. 6.
eilene3il - Bye, sadie!
brad - nite sade
Michelle/3/or - I've read the 1st and 3rd books.
eilene3il - I read Lemony Snickett, brad
brad - I love their "voice"
eilene3il - I only have the first 4, I think those are too old for my kids right now
Michelle/3/or - I want to get the boigraphy, but I'm waiting to find it cheap somewhere.
brad - I bought it
brad - They recommend you don't read bio until having read series
eilene3il - is it good, brad?
Glenda 1st TN - I remember those years. They are getting so social. My daughter and I spent our free time shopping and checking out boys. We would spot a guy and decide if me passes our test. Tall, Nice looking and a Christian. Her dad did not appreciate our comments.
brad - there's going to be thirteen of those
brad - (just like each book has thirteen chapters)
eilene3il - I never noticed that before, (that each book has thirteen chapters) I'm not quite that astute
Michelle/3/or - I hadn't noticed that either.
brad - I haven't read it yet, Eilene. LOL. I"ve only read first in series. This board and rotten kids keep me busy. Plus I must make salads and store Pendaflex folders
brad - (Michele will let you in on lingo)
eilene3il - Ah, yes, Pendaflex folders. My district I think has a warehouse full of those
brad - the lemony snickett website is very droll
Michelle/3/or - maybe the school system owns stock in Pendaflex somewhere?
eilene3il - I've been lurking on the boards. I know a few things of what you crazy people do
brad - that's it. Kind've like that deal with Apple all those years ago
brad - I'm very serious and studious Eilene.
eilene3il - Gad, no. My school system has stock in the mayor's house in Vegas. (Just kidding, of course)
Michelle/3/or - I finally figured out Dish Towels, by reading archived chats
eilene3il - The town mayor has been indicted for racketeering, and unless she wins the appeals, all her possessions will be seized.
eilene3il - Oh, brad, so am I!! It's nice to know that there are other people out there.
brad - I thought you were in ILLINOIS, eilene
eilene3il - I am in Illinois.
brad - These people like to joke around and I ALWAYS have to keep them in line.
eilene3il - Which line, I wonder?
Michelle/3/or - oh, you are just so funny tonight, brad! LOL really loud
brad - I bring the chats back around to the authentic stuff all the time.
eilene3il - "Dish Towels"?
Michelle/3/or - yeah, like salad dressing and ho ho's...this isn't the food chat, brad.
brad - The center line, you know. The one we all have to walk down in the hall.
eilene3il - Ho ho's??? I missed the ho ho's????
brad - (maybe food network has a board. BAM!)
Michelle/3/or - brad is keeper of the Ho Ho's
Glenda 1st TN - Our line is called the "silver line".
eilene3il - Ack! don't say that. In my highschool, we weren't allowed to walk on the white center line
brad - Is that like the third line on the subway, Glenda
Michelle/3/or - like you were driving down the hall or something, eilene? Vroom-Vroom
Alta Rose - brb
brad - i mean eilene
eilene3il - That's right, Mich. We only had 2 minutes to get to class, or the nuns would herd us. Walk to the right! Stay off the white line!
Glenda 1st TN - I'm not sure. It has been a very long time since I've been in a subway.
eilene3il - Well, our subway is called the Red line
Michelle/3/or - we have no lines in our halls...heck, many classrooms here don't even have walls!
brad - Remember, the third line will give you a shock if you touch it. A good shock.
Michelle/3/or - I've never been in an american subway. have no idea what brad is talking about
eilene3il - Here, we call that the "the third rail"
eilene3il - You know what used to give us a shock when we were kids
brad - Are you in one of those liberal flower sniffing hippie open classrooms Michelle.
Michelle/3/or - No. After I was hired (I would have said yes to about anything), I was SO relieved to find I had a classroom with walls
eilene3il - We used to climb up and touch one of the screws on the refrigerator hinges, and then touch another screw on a wall guard (all in my house, of course) and get a bit of a jolt. Pretty wild!
eilene3il - I don't kow if I could teach in a "no walls room". Too wierd to me. Not my own space.
brad - LOL, someone brought a "jolt" to band camp one year, and we used to recrut all the people from other schools to stand in a circle and wed all "get a jolt" LOL, stupid.
Glenda 1st TN - We lived in the country eilene, We just went to the field and touched the elec. fence. Well usually once was enough.
Michelle/3/or - I've subbed in lots of classrooms without walls. No one liked it, that I can recall.
brad - LOL, Glenda. I can see you now. LOL
Michelle/3/or - lol, glenda
eilene3il - Oh, an electric fence? There's that, too.
brad - .......and the time we put my sister in the dryer........good times, good times
Michelle/3/or - when i was a kid, my grandparents owned a farm. they scared me to death with warnings about the fence. I still can't walk within 5 feet of one
eilene3il - Brad, there's this link for your future reference: http://forums.foodtv.com/forum.jsp?forum=84. Emeril Live forum
brad - crack me up eilene, that you took the time
eilene3il - You're an evil person, brad.
Glenda 1st TN - Brad, did you really put your sister in the dryer?
brad - michelle, my grandparents always scared me about "flogging" still does
eilene3il - I have foodnetwork.com as one of my favorites, wasn't that difficult
brad - We didn't turn it on Glenda!! LOL
Glenda 1st TN - Well, we have some things to be thankful for.
eilene3il - He just threatened to turn it on, Glenda, which is just as bad
Glenda 1st TN - LOL. eilene. I'm sure pay back was interesting.
brad - We were playing like she was our drunk mother we had to hide when the social worker came over. We were strange children with too much tv
eilene3il - LOL, you didn't get out much as a child, did you Brad?
Michelle/3/or - lol, brad. that's....sad. glad you mentioned the TV part
Glenda 1st TN - Oh the things I missed out on as an only child
brad - out of the dryer?
eilene3il - You were always the Permanent Press Poster Child, huh, Brad?
Michelle/3/or - what on earth tv show had a drunk mother hiding in the dryer??
brad - I always remember that because our cousin from Joisey who hardly ever was over came over once and we played it so she ALWAYS brings it up when we're together now at reunions
brad - I don't know Michelle but I'm sure it had margaret colin and susan st james
Michelle/3/or - it sure wasn't Donnie and Marie, I can tell you that!
Glenda 1st TN - Come on Brad, your not that young.
eilene3il - Susan St. James? Where did that come from? And who in the world is Margaret Colin (dare I ask?)
eilene3il - Wasn't Susan St. James in Kate & Alley?
Michelle/3/or - you missed a whole tv conversation before you logged on, eilene
brad - IT seems like we were always orphans or something though. Isn't that psychologically interesting?
Michelle/3/or - well...when i was a kid, i used to daydream about being kidnapped....but not in a bad way
eilene3il - oh, okay. Then ignore my questions
brad - Freud could have a field day in this chatroom right now
brad - yes, eilene. she played kate.
Glenda 1st TN - We were always superheros, cowboys, good guys and bad guys.
brad - yes, but what does that say about you and your childhood, michelle? I should write a book.
eilene3il - When I was a kid, I used to dream about owning my own little house in the backyard, but still have my mom cook, clean and take care of me.
Michelle/3/or - since I wasn't so sure what evil thing they did to kids after kidnapping them, imagined being tickled severely
brad - I went through superhero phase for a while with one of my cousins, Glenda
eilene3il - I wanted to be Wonder Woman, and fly the invisible plane, and have the lasso of truth
brad - Something to do with melting things with one hand and freezing them with the other....
Michelle/3/or - we played Bionic Woman and Wonderwoman
eilene3il - Oh, Jamie Summers!
Glenda 1st TN - Eilene, I think that is the plan of my friends kids. the 25 yr old who is married is building a house. She and her husband have moved back home until their house is built. My friend is doing the cooking.
brad - I had the Bionic Man. You could open up his back and there was a lever to move his bionic parts.
brad - She could rip a phone book in half
eilene3il - Aren't moms great? They usually always take you back
Michelle/3/or - yes! my friends at the babysitters had that steve austin. he was so cool!
Michelle/3/or - you could see through his eye
eilene3il - We had the original GI Joe. Big whoop
brad - LOL, I just remembered my cousin had these big red ball clip-on earrings and she would spin around and whip those off and be (duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh) "Wonder Woman!":
Glenda 1st TN - Do you remember the spy tv series. Not I spy. The one with the blonde and dark haired guy. I can see their faces but can't remember the names.
brad - Yeah, yeah, I remember that now. YOu could see through his eye!! He had a rocket ship too.
brad - "She's a Wonder, Wonder Woman" <-----singing to self
eilene3il - No, Glenda, I don't.
Glenda 1st TN - I remember now, Man from Uncle.
Michelle/3/or - my friend's mom went to high school with Linda Carter. She wouldn't let my friend watch WW because she hated the sight of her.
eilene3il - No, I never got into UNCLE. I used to watch Adam-12, though, and the other one about the paramedics
Alta Rose - Emergency.
brad - Emergency
Glenda 1st TN - My girlfriends and I use to play that we were married to the characters. I always got the dark haired guy and I really wanted the blonde. Just not assertive enough.
eilene3il - Exactly!!! Now we have ER, interesting
Michelle/3/or - oh, I watched Emergency! only dabbled in Adam 12
brad - That Lynda Carter. She was a sassy one.
Glenda 1st TN - I think I'm a lot older than you guys.
Michelle/3/or - watched Starsky and Hutch.
brad - Diana ????
eilene3il - But I was a huge Charlie's Angel closet wannabe. Kelly Garret was my rold model
brad - Definitely Starsky and Hutch. And Barretta
Alta Rose - What makes you think so, Glenda?
eilene3il - Barretta had the bird
brad - Jaclyn Smith's birthday is the day before mine. LOL. Loved Charlie's Angels. Wrote a paper on it for college.
eilene3il - No, you didn't, brad! On what?
Glenda 1st TN - Just from the shows your discussing. I watched them, but was in my teen years or already married.
brad - It is so silly when you catch it in reruns
Michelle/3/or - what kind of class could you write a paper on Charlie's Angels in?
brad - Wrote a paper on Charlie's angels.
brad - English 112 (freshman, everyone takes it)
eilene3il - I meant, "what about Charlie's Angels"
brad - The topic had to be a television show and its effects on society
eilene3il - and how did C.A. effect society?
Michelle/3/or - we had to write papers on Animal Rights in my freshman writing class in college. Not fair!
brad - Any show that popular, I figured, Had an effect on society. so I was joking, adn someone said you should do it. So I did. I should find it and post it. LOL
brad - Well, it was one of the first shows to show women doing "a man's job"
Michelle/3/or - did you get a good grade? or was it that "ungraded college" you went to?
brad - And "the Farrah" was a HUGE hairstyle. (found article after article on that)
eilene3il - I really enjoyed Cagney & Lacey. That was a really good series
Michelle/3/or - you should have done Duke of Hazzard...I'd like to see the "effects on society" you could come up with for that one
brad - Actually I got a B. But everyone who read it couldn't believe it only got a B. This guy really didn't like me a lot.
Michelle/3/or - Dukes, I mean
brad - He gave some chick who did 90210 an A and held hers up as a model. Others in the class thought mine was better.
brad - "Tonight, on the Dukes. . . "
Alta Rose - OK, while we're talking '70s TV, I gotta put in a plug for my favourite--Little House on the Prairie!
Michelle/3/or - My sister and I would make Coke floats and watch the Dukes on Friday nights when my mom and her husband went out.
eilene3il - I love Little House!!
Alta Rose - I am a huge Michael Landon fan.
brad - The last time I looked at it, it wasn't the wunder piece I remembered it being, but it was still alright.
eilene3il - me too, Alta
Michelle/3/or - Alta...my sister loved the theme song from Little House so much that she tape recorded it and played it constantly...even at school
brad - It was Dukes, Dallas, Falcon Crrest (by the last I had usually fallen asleep)
Glenda 1st TN - Does anyone remember Michael Landon on Bonanza?
Alta Rose - Alright--Whadda mean--Just alright!
eilene3il - Little Joe!
Alta Rose - Yes, but just barely, Glenda!
Michelle/3/or - in reruns, glenda
brad - talking about my CA paper Alta. LOL
Alta Rose - Oh. You're forgiven, then. Lol.
brad - We always ordered pizza Michelle and watched Dukes on friday
Glenda 1st TN - Told you guys I was a lot older. We we lived in Chicago it came on every Sunday night. We always ordered Pizza and I could sit up past my 8 pm bed time to watch it. Fond memories.
eilene3il - My favorite show was MASH. My mom used to watch that every Sunday night at 6:00.
brad - But just barely forgiven, Alta. I never watched Little House. I think it was girly girl
Michelle/3/or - Ah...the days before VCR, when we were all stuck with network programming...
brad - My dad was a big MASH freak. At the time it annoyed me, but when I see it in reruns I realize how good it is.
Alta Rose - I still watch the reruns. And my hubby will never admit it, but every once in awhile he gets caught up in a scene, too.
Michelle/3/or - and if you didn't stay home on friday night...you missed whatever Boss Hog was up to this time..
Alta Rose - I like MASH now. Never watched it at the time.
brad - LOL, Michelle ,... I wish we had the Boar's Nest around here
brad - Sherriff Roscoe PEEEE Coltrane, coming at ya'. Enos, you dipstick."
eilene3il - Oh, the most emotional episode of MASH was the Henry Blake episode (I saw them all at least 10 times.) Someway, somehow, MASH would be on three times on Sundays.
Michelle/3/or - I loved Flash. so adorable.
brad - it was on 3 times a day wasn't it?
brad - I always liked the one where you were the patient and everyone was looking at the camera. Or that one with the clock ticking down in the corner of the screen
Michelle/3/or - well brad, since you are so experience in it, I'm expecting you to be able to tell everyone how this conversation is Professional Reading related...
brad - "Here come the Dukes" You all just don't understand what this show was for boys. Cars, chases, and Daisy
Glenda 1st TN - Brad, what show are you talking about with the clock ticking down?
brad - mash
Michelle/3/or - well...Bo and Luke weren't too bad...
eilene3il - Oh, that was a good one, with the clock. the funniest one though, was with the Propaganda bomb!
Alta Rose - I like the relationship between Hot Lips and Frank. Trying to hide it, but everyone knew. Frank was a good actor.
brad - remember the fake dukes, Michelle. Coy and Vance?
Glenda 1st TN - I think we should say this is all schema related.
Michelle/3/or - I try to forget, brad.
brad - LOL< Glenda
eilene3il - I was going to say that we were all making connections, Glenda
Michelle/3/or - oh, yes. You're right, Glenda.
brad - I'm building my schema for the History of TV book I'm tackling this weekend.
Alta Rose - I have a little girl in my class who doesn't have a TV--Parent's choice.
Glenda 1st TN - Before my RWM days I would say we were just strolling down memory lane.
Glenda 1st TN - What grade do you teach Alta?
Michelle/3/or - I have a friend without a tv. Her son is a great listener! remembers everything he hears! all that radio exposure.
Alta Rose - Looping with my 1's to 2.
brad - I will be honest. I do think that so much television watching in my youth contributed to my wit, my creativity, and my reading in the way of story sense. (Or maybe I just liked watching Charo on Love Boat)
Michelle/3/or - he was in my class in first grade, so i really know
Michelle/3/or - April! Hootchie Cootchie!
eilene3il - My sister & her husband don't have a tv either, by choice. She didn't know about Pricess Di's death until three weeks later, when we talking about it
Glenda 1st TN - Does your little girl or the other children find it strange or uncomfortable?
Sylvia/CA - Hi Everyone!!!!!!! You're all up pretty late, tonight!!
brad - But that was when you HAD to watch network. There's just too much crap on cable these days. And it's all so promotional. Disney is about the worst.
Michelle/3/or - I saw some lady on Oprah who said now that she watches more tv and reads more "junk" novels, she's become a more interesting person to be around
brad - Not that Love Boat was sophistication, but. . .
Alta Rose - The child herself seems to be fine with it. It came out in a discussion once, and you could hear a pin drop. Another girl said, "What do you DO all day?" She just smiled and said, "I read."
Glenda 1st TN - Hi Sylvia
brad - that is so interesting michelle. was that recently? who was she and why was she on oprah?
Michelle/3/or - I don't have cable. why pay to have more reasons to sit in front of the tv?
eilene3il - I'm so tired that I may watch tv, but I never remember it. and I'm stuck with non-cable tv. Hey. Sylvia
Sylvia/CA - Michelle, I'm with you! As it is, I very seldom watch tv anymore!
brad - Michelle. I'll sum it up in four words: E! True Hollywood Story
Glenda 1st TN - I bet they were in shock. Good for your little girl.
brad - LOL
Michelle/3/or - I don't remember her name. She's someone who wrote a book about organizing your life, doing what's important or something like that. helpng women to do more for themselves.
brad - You have to know why we had to suffer as a nation through Coy and Vance!!
Michelle/3/or - it was sometime this summer, brad
Sylvia/CA - That girl without tv is a rarity in this day and age! We did a graphing activity where I once, just out of curiosity, posed the question, "Do you have a tv in the room where you sleep?" You all knew what the overwhelming answer was!
brad - I read a lot too though. I did quite a bit of both. Now of course I didn't play sports organized or not.
brad - But I played outside some and with cousins a lot and with other "toys"
Sylvia/CA - But, gee brad, you sure seem to BE a good sport! LOL!
Michelle/3/or - I did see that thing on the Dukes of Hazard...I lived with a woman who had cable (while I was down and out a few yrs ago)
Glenda 1st TN - No doubt everyone had a tv in their room. I had a little boy last year that was always sleepy. We discovered he was getting up in the middle of the night and watching TV.
brad - LOL, Sylvia. I tried sports. No good at them. So I quit. Perhaps a little prematurely.
Sylvia/CA - I'm not sure I know who 'Coy and Vance' are.... were?
Alta Rose - Hubby and I don't have a TV in our room--Doubt if the kids ever will!
brad - My children have tv's in their room, but no hookup to them. They use them for video games and vcr tapes
Michelle/3/or - when my son was in kindergarten, he used to get up in the middle of the night to play on the computer! the computer's in my room now.
brad - it keeps them from using main television
Glenda 1st TN - Hanging my head in shame. We have 5 tvs. with ony 4 people in the house. Long story.
Sylvia/CA - Glenda, right! I posed it as "the room where you sleep" because in the poor community where I teach, many of them don't have their own rooms... and often sleep on living room floors...
eilene3il - Only tv is in the living room. I end up falling asleep on the couch
brad - and monopolizing it
Michelle/3/or - i have only one 19-inch tv that takes 20 minutes to "warm up"
brad - lol michelle; you're in the dark ages. Remember when the tv always had that little spot in the center as it faded out???
Alta Rose - When we moved into this house, we decided to put the TV in the basement, and have the livingroom for visiting / reading only. Love it!
Sylvia/CA - Michelle, uh oh! I've often gotten up in the middle of the night to browse the internet! (read emails and stuff!)
Michelle/3/or - yes, we have several who sleep on living room floor too.
Sylvia/CA - I guess you could say the internet is my 'TV'! LOL!
eilene3il - I have a lot who sleep in the living room as well. It's said.
eilene3il - *it's sad, I meant to say
brad - True story. We were reading a story one day and came across the word "mute." And I asked my student if he knew what that meant. And he said, "Sure it's that little button on the remote."
Michelle/3/or - my mom used to sleep with the tv on all night. of course, broadcast actually ceased at night...so it would be her alarm clock to wake up the next morning.
Glenda 1st TN - Makes sense to me.
Alta Rose - Lol, Brad!
brad - I remember they played the National Anthem right before it signed off about two in the morning.
Sylvia/CA - Brad! Wow! I never thought of that word as being something most kids would know! But... you're right!
Sylvia/CA - Hi Coyotito!
El Coyotito! -
Michelle/3/or - remember Poltergeist? That movie wouldn't make sense to kids these days.
El Coyotito! - why is everyone in here tonight?
brad - You're right Michelle. It's been AGES since I've seen "snow"
Sylvia/CA - Sign-offs.... seems like those are rare, here, too! they just play news programs all through the night... or play informercials!
Alta Rose - Well, I'm getting up early to go to the Farmer's Market, so I'll sign off now. One more weekend to enjoy before school starts on Tuesday. I don't have the typical nervousness, though, because I know my kids / parents already. I love looping! Goodnight, everyone!
brad - I don't think anyone signs off anymore do they?
Michelle/3/or - good night Alta!
brad - (except alta) Night alta
Michelle/3/or - I don't think they do.
Glenda 1st TN - Sure Brad, alta just did. good night alta.
Sylvia/CA - Alta Rose! Just starting school??? I'll be going on my first break in three weeks!
Glenda 1st TN - Sylvia, are you on a year round schedule?
Sylvia/CA - Brad, Michelle... they found a way to make money during late nights and early mornings!
brad - Before we all go, we need to make up a story to tell Jan if she asks what Important Ideas we discussed
Michelle/3/or - Schema....
brad - Are Coy and Vance instructionally sound?
Sylvia/CA - Glenda, yes.. year round school... been at it for more than ... well... lots of years!
brad - Was Kate the authentic one or was that Allie
Sylvia/CA - We discussed world to world connections!
eilene3il - I'll go with the Schema idea
Michelle/3/or - ESIA not approved!
Sylvia/CA - Kate and Allie??? LOL!
brad - Where is my Diorama of Hazard County anyway?
Glenda 1st TN - More like network to network connections
Michelle/3/or - I got Luke in a can!
Sylvia/CA - LOL, You're right, Glenda!!
eilene3il - What about modern symbolism and how we relate to it
brad - LOL, Michelle
brad - OOOHH you're good Eilene
Sylvia/CA - Ooohhhh! eilene! Profound! the whole world is one big symbol!
Michelle/3/or - Jan would be impressed
eilene3il - I come from a long line of talented b-s'ers
Glenda 1st TN - Maybe we could compare developing schema to reruns.
brad - I have to visualize the Boar's Nest and Daisy (in those short shorts)
Sylvia/CA - eilene!! LOL!! Me too! Got my B.A. and M.A and M.A. with BS!!!!
brad - ANd we talked about bilingual education (Couchie!)
Glenda 1st TN - Okay, have we agreed on modern symbolism?
Sylvia/CA - brad, YOU talked about bilingual education! LOL!!
Sylvia/CA - Modern symbolism... Agreed!
brad - Joo like?
Michelle/3/or - Jan always misses the real profound discussions hehe
Sylvia/CA - Michelle, that's because content is more important than mechanics! LOL!!
brad - Nobody said a word about Blair, Jo, Natalie, or Tootie!!
Michelle/3/or - we discussed multiculturism?
eilene3il - It's the sharing of ideas and the discussion that makes it our "own" and reinforces it
Sylvia/CA - Hmmmm... trying to figure out what else you might have discussed BEFORE I came in....
Glenda 1st TN - Guys have a great weekend and enjoy your families.
eilene3il - Night, Glenda!
Sylvia/CA - OOOOhhh! Facts of life!!
Sylvia/CA - G'night G'lenda!!!!!!!!!
eilene3il - "You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both, and there you have..."
Glenda 1st TN - Nite
Michelle/3/or - oh...brad, I have to tell you...when I was a kid, i didn't dare turn it to Facts of Life, because I thought it would be a "dirty" show
Sylvia/CA - Sing it, Girl!!!!!!
brad - We'll save MRs. G. and Eastland for next time.
Michelle/3/or - finally, as I got older and more daring...I tried it when my mom wasn't around
brad - LOL, Michelle. I would've turned it there on purpose if I thougth that. LOL
Sylvia/CA - Ohhhhhhhhh Michelle!!!!!! You missed a fun show!!!!!! Tootie on her roller skates through the house! LOL!
eilene3il - that song was written by Alan Thicke. Can you believe it?
Michelle/3/or - I couldn't believe it! It wasn't at all what I thought it would be
brad - I used to think Love Boat was sexy and Fantasy Island was scary
Sylvia/CA - I remember Alan Thicke on his own talk show... and what was that other one???with the kids?
Sylvia/CA - Gee! At least you thought! I just watched and vegetated!
brad - Michelle, Love Boat and Fantasy Island was the Saturday after you had coke floats on Friday watching Dukes
Michelle/3/or - Fantasy Island WAS scary
eilene3il - Growing Pains
brad - Rofl @ Michelle
Sylvia/CA - hee hee! Brad! You just reminded me that a "Love Boat Saturday Night" meant you had no date for that night!
eilene3il - (almost said Growing Pans, but I think that was a Mad Magazine Issue)
Michelle/3/or - Love Boat and Fantasy Island were staples. Only thing on when you're babysitting.
brad - There was one about vampires we were watching one time while my mom wrapped Christmas presents that sticks in my mind to this day
Sylvia/CA - We used to ask each other if they had a 'love boat saturday night' over the weekend! LOL!
brad - Isn't that funny why certain things stick in your mind?
Sylvia/CA - right, eilene, Growing pains...
brad - "Show me that smile again...."
Sylvia/CA - I liked that theme song, brad!
brad - "Love, Exciting and new...."
Michelle/3/or - I liked the "human history" part of the intro to Growing Pains
eilene3il - hmm, Love Boat wasn't a big hit with me. Fantasy Island was okay
Michelle/3/or - I learned my first mixed drink from Love Boat...."Screwdriver"
brad - LOL, Michelle
brad - I probably did too, Michelle. I was always riding on the Fiesta Deck
Sylvia/CA - This site has theme song lyrics.... http://www.classic-tv.com/themesongs/lyrics.html oops! Just checked it.. guess not!
brad - (or was that the Promenade Deck?)
Michelle/3/or - Promenade Deck, I think
eilene3il - I like when they went someplace. Not just floating by the moonlight
Sylvia/CA - Hey! But it leads you to some oldie tv shows! Gilligan's Island!
brad - LOL, when you see it in reruns now, it looks SO fake. THey are obviously in a studio.
Michelle/3/or - you didn't like Gopher, Eilene?
brad - Dont' forget my man Isaac who worked at EVERY bar on the boat
Sylvia/CA - I Dream of Jeannie! The Munsters!
brad - SIMULTANEOUSLY
eilene3il - Gopher? No, he was too weasly looking
Michelle/3/or - yes, they worked that man so hard...
brad - Thus, gopher.
Sylvia/CA - Isaac! That's right! See?? I really DIDN'T think! I never thought about how he was at all the bars all the time! LOL
brad - Well, after all, he was the HEAD bartender
Michelle/3/or - of course he was head bartender....that's what happens when you are the only one!
Sylvia/CA - Bewitched... guess that was before Fantasy Island
brad - "Laverne and Shirley was taped in front of a live studio audience. . ."
brad - SHlemeil Schlamazel
eilene3il - Shlameal, Shlamatzul,
eilene3il - okay, so I spelled it differently
Sylvia/CA - Now.. speaking of education, which we weren't.. sorta.. How do you spell.. Schlemiel..schlemazle?? LOL! OOPS! You were way ahead of me eilene
Sylvia/CA - ooh! and brad, too! hee hee!
brad - Rosy Greenbaum and Terry Butafuoco (long before Joey)
Michelle/3/or - I read a quote from Laverne and Shirley..."Carmine and I have an agreement. I can date any man and he can date ugly women"
brad - I think Laverne and Shirley is great. Still to this day. Swear.
Michelle/3/or - it was in Uncle John's Bathroom Reading.
Michelle/3/or - Reader, not Reading
Sylvia/CA - What do you remember from Welcome Back, Kotter? That one didn't last too long, did it?
eilene3il - Oh, profound literature, Michelle
brad - John Travolta and Horshack "OOO, OOO< OOO Mr. Kottah"
brad - John Travolta and Horshack "OOO, OOO< OOO Mr. Kottah"
eilene3il - I can sing you the entire WB, Kotter theme song.
Michelle/3/or - I used to watch it in the day care of the bowling alley. Love those sweat hogs!
Sylvia/CA - So I see, Michelle, that even in the bathroom you are using shema to make connections! LOL!!
Sylvia/CA - Sing it eilene!! LOL!
brad - "Your Dreams were your ticket out..."
eilene3il - Freddy "Boom Boom" Washington
eilene3il - "Welcome back, where dreams were your ticket out
eilene3il - Welcome back, to that same old place that we laughed about
Sylvia/CA - "Who'd a thought they'd lead ya, back here where they need ya?"!!!!!!!! Hey! That's MY theme song!!!!!!!!!
eilene3il - Well the dreams that you made when you hung about...
brad - My brother and I used to play a drinking game every time Mrs. Romano said "Dammit Schneider." I swear it must've been in Bonnie Franklin's contract to say @#$% in every show at least once
Sylvia/CA - I grew up poor... and now I'm teaching in a very poor community! (I never thought we were THAT poor, tho!)
eilene3il - Are the dreams that remain and are still about
eilene3il - It was sung by the lead singer of the Lovin' Spoonful
Sylvia/CA - Ahh.. Mrs. Romano!!!!! I had forgotten about her and Schnieder!
brad - LOL< Sylvia. At the end, when they sing, "Well we tease him a lot cause we got him on the spot...." I used to think it said "Cheezy My Lot, cause we got him on the spot." LOL
Michelle/3/or - you gotta like schneider's resourcefulness....cigarettes rolled in tshirt sleeve.
eilene3il - Oh, and don't forget about her Tuna Casserole

Sylvia/CA - In case you can't tell, I love song lyrics.... of all kinds!
brad - "There's a bathroom on the right...."
Michelle/3/or - the one i always swore i knew was "stop! blow your nose!"
Michelle/3/or - it was actually "Stop! For your love!"
brad - "This is it. (This is it.) This is life, the one you get, to go and have a ball. . ."
Sylvia/CA - I've even had my students 'rewrite' song lyrics using school terminology! was great for syllabication and rhyming words.. .and sentence patterns...
eilene3il - me too, Sylvia! I sing to my kids all the time in school
brad - "Keep on doing what you do. Hold on tight. We'll get on through. One Day at a time."

Sylvia/CA - Little House theme?? Hmmm... I don't remember what it was!
brad - Sylvia, it was instrumental.
Michelle/3/or - there were no words to it, Sylvia
eilene3il - I still make up words to the Bonanza theme song
Sylvia/CA - Oops! NO extrinsic rewards!! I forgot!
Sylvia/CA - yeah, I KNEW it was an instrumental... but I forgot what it was... what the music was....
Michelle/3/or - but if you ask my sister, it went "Li-i-ttle House on the Pra-ir-ieee

Sylvia/CA - LOL, Michelle! You sing reel gud!!!
Sylvia/CA - LOL@horse noises!
Michelle/3/or - Bonanza: "do do-do do do-do DO DOO!"

Sylvia/CA - *not singing brad's song*
Michelle/3/or - ok...this takes REAL talent...come up with lyrics for 60 minutes!
eilene3il - tick tick tick
Sylvia/CA - Michelle, just say whatever in a monotone single pattern style.....
brad - LOL, that reminds me of my brother and I trying to sing Dallas "Wah-wah. Wah-wah. Wah-wah, wa-wa-wah wah."
eilene3il - Well, I was raised a la School House Rock, so I love any type of music
Michelle/3/or - Love School House Rock! I have a few of the videos.
Sylvia/CA - (Now where was I before I almost accepted Michelle's challenge?) Their house is a museum.. Where people come to see um...
brad - I bet I could call my brother right now and ask him to sing Dallas and he'd say, "Wah-wah. Wah-wah. . . " Rofl

brad - My brother: "Hot child on the ceiling."
brad - That story ALWAYS comes after the Hot Blooded one
Sylvia/CA - But, Brad, your story is much easier to take than when MY mom likes to tell about how I learned to walk by holding onto my diaper thinking that was what was keeping me up!
eilene3il - Everytime I see any reference to the Supremes, I think if China Beach, because of that theme song...
Sylvia/CA - Michelle, no telling about what's there! they've got quite a few!!

eilene3il - And then there's ... One banana, two banana, three banana, four. Four bananas make a bunch, and so do many more.
