Sophia - Hello,Grace!
Sophia - Are we the only ones here?
Grace/IL - Hi Sophia Are you here for the Prof Reading chat?
Grace/IL - There will be several others along very shortly.
Sophia - Nat'l board actually! Did I miss it?
Grace/IL - What grade do you teach and where are you located?
Grace/IL - I think that group just signed off.
Sophia - Louisiana, I teach special ed. 5th -8th grade, alternate assessment.
Sophia - What do you teach?
Grace/IL - We often have a sped teacher on the next chat. Hang around a bit.
Sophia - Where are you from?
Grace/IL - I'm retired but love to interact with teachers still in the classrooms.
Grace/IL - Northern Illinois -- taught first grade
Sophia - When I must be out of my classroom, I try to get retired certified teachers only.
Sophia - I hate to leave my students in the hands of a parent.
Grace/IL - I decided not to do any subbing in retirement. I did it for several years earlier and it's a challenge.
Grace/IL - In IL I think one needs to either be certified or fulfill other requirements in order to sub.
Sophia - Not in Louisiana, I feel that it fosters disregard for our profession to allow parents to sub.
Sophia - They tend to feel that teaching is like babysitting. When I have to have a parent, I leave my normal work schedule, complete with three reading groups.
Grace/IL - I think sometimes a sub should be even more qualified. It's tough to just jump in and follow lesson plans.
Sophia - I think that you are right. Especially when students have behavioral issues.
Grace/IL - I remember studying over 100 pages of math one night so I'd know how to teach bases in math -- they were into bases in the 60s when computers first became common.
Sophia - I was born in '64.
Sophia - I remember big cars with chrome knobs.
Grace/IL - Behavioral issues, yes! My supt. would assign me to a class, then call me and say, "I can't send just anyone into that 7th grade class so I'm moving you.
Grace/IL - Behavioral issues, yes! My supt. would assign me to a class, then call me and say, "I can't send just anyone into that 7th grade class so I'm moving you.
Sophia - I get every student with behavioral issues. I am so rewarded!
Grace/IL - Sorry about the double post. Hit something wrong here.
Sophia - I did that earlier.
Sophia - Hello, Juno!
Grace/IL - Were you ever exposed to bases -- number systems based on 2 and/or 12 instead of 10.
Sophia - I don't think so. Give me an example.
Juno - Are you all teachers?
Sophia - Yes, I teach Special Ed./ Alternate assessment.
jodi - I noticed that Sophia is interested in National boards. I am now a banker for EA math.
Juno - I got a question for you?
Grace/IL - Have a telephone call.
Erin - Hi everyone!!!TGI
Sophia - I want to pass so badly. If I do, I can afford a house.
jodi - I teach 6th grade math.
judythrika - Hi Erin!
Erin - TGIF, I'm so tired I can't even do that right!!!
jodi - Is this your 1st year?
Erin - Judy, love the new nickname
judythrika - LOL, and I sure understand about the missing F.
Sophia - I thank God it is the holidays! We were off at noon today.
Juno - I have a daughter that was tested by a psychologist, occupational therapist and a special ed teacher. Her IQ is98 but her abilities are way above her IQ score
Erin - How did your kids like their Winn Dixie books?
Erin - I gave mine the Best Christmas Pageant Ever. You would have thought I gave them a million bucks. The reaction was priceless
Sophia - She could have been nervous during testing.
Juno - she does not qualify for special ed but has problems comprehending what the teacher is asking of her when activities are done in the classroom
judythrika - Loved 'em, thanks for remembering. The bags were a big hit--one kid (missing a lot) exclaimed, "You mean there really is a store?"
Erin - Is that physically "missing" or mentally? LOL
Juno - she does not process the information in order to answer questions
Sophia - Could she be daydreaming intensly?
judythrika - My top group is reading Best Christmas right now--unfortunately we didn't finish.
Juno - the teacher said they did a reading test with 3 sentences and they had to answer questions about the story.
Juno - she could not answer the questions
Erin - I had just finished it yesterday. They couldn't wait to go check it out of the library when we get back so they were thrilled to have their own copy.
Sophia - Three question aren't very much to give a true picture of one's ability.
Juno - she is 6
Sophia - She might could've answered the questions under different circumstances. She could feel intimidated.
judythrika - Erin, same with Winn-Dixie. I also gave them composition books I'd bought on sale and then decided not to use--and mechanical pencils. They acted like they would be able to read and write thanks to me, ROFL.
Michelle - hello....
judythrika - Hi again, Michelle!
Erin - THey would never have "thunk" of it without you , you awesome teacher
Michelle - I'm only half here. my son is sick tonight.
Sophia - I have taught kids whose former (2) teachers said that they were uneducable. I put them on a computer program that addressed reading on their level and learning style. They are learning.
Juno - she cannot process the information from her head to her pencil.
Erin - Hi Marcia!!!
judythrika - LOLOL, but I was thrilled when one kid said that he was going to write about something that happened today.
Juno - Like a short circuit somewhere.
judythrika - Hi Marcia!
Marcia/1st/GA - hi all!
Michelle - I've been meaning to post a thanks at the mosaic ring to whoever it was that suggested reading The Nutcracker for SI.
Sophia - Use "Jumpstart" first grade level, see what happens. Computers don't fuss or call attention to you in front of others.
Erin - I have some sad news. Found out that my one girl, Samantha, who was absent yesterday and today was gone because her father died
Juno - my daughter reads perfectly but can't comprehend what a story is about
Michelle - I read that to my kids the last 2 weeks of school and it was just BEAUTIFUL
judythrika - Oh, Erin, that's very sad.
Juno - okay I will try that
Erin - I found out at lunch and have just been so upset. Called and spoke to her and asked when the funeral would be. Gave her my home phone number to call and let me know
Michelle - oh, Erin. That is so sad.
judythrika - Good for you, Erin.
Juno - thanks
judythrika - (((cavey)))
Michelle - hi cavey! you look bright tonight!
cavey - Hi Guys!! Big (((((())))))) to everyone!
judythrika - Any good presents today?
cavey - Yes Michelle, I'm feeling festive!
Sophia - I have several kids like that. They read fluently out loud, but they have not yet learned to pick a story apart for facts. I have them work on who, what, when, where, and why questions, illustrate the main idea, and sequence events in proper order.
Michelle - we finished school yesterday. Thank goodness, otherwise I would have had to have called a sub today.
Erin - Three coffee mugs, two scented candles and one box of business cards...
Erin - Sing along if you know the words
Marcia/1st/GA - Judy, I got the worst present I think I ever received today.....a Bath and Body Works terry lined bag with 3 sample bottles of hair products (?) for COLOR TREATED HAIR!!!!!
cavey - Mugs and candles here too. I did get a great Tony Bennett Christmas CD. From another teacher whose kid is mine of course!
Erin - The business cards are cool. One of my parents owns a printing shop so they have the district, my name and all my numbers...I'm looking pretty professional now
Michelle - Last year, I really made out present-wise. This year I received one ornament that I already have, and that's it. But, I really love this group of kids, so that's better than a load of gifts.
judythrika - LOL, I didn't get any mugs this year, but candles.... Here's my best present: a gift certificate for a pet and cage--the pet is to be larger than a flea and smaller than an elephant.
Michelle - Marcia, LOL. that's so funny. how cute.
Erin - Marica, LOL
judythrika - Eeewwww, Marcia!
cavey - Well Marcia, if the haircolor fits...
Marcia/1st/GA - Judy, do you want a pet?
Erin - I received much better gifts last year, but the looks on my kids faces was priceless this year. I got a present from almost every kid
Marcia/1st/GA - Yeah, should I act insulted??
Michelle - I recieved the best White Elephant gift at our staff party. A beautiful snowman cookie jar. everyone was jealous.
cavey - Judy, we brought home the mice from the science lab for our vacation
judythrika - Marcia, LOL, the gift certificate is from the daughter of my study-partner/friend. She's good at pets, I'm not. We'll see.
Michelle - and I found out that my secret santa was a good friend of mine! no wonder I kept recieving books I didn't already have!
cavey - Hey Little d
judythrika - cavey, I'm thinking mice.
Erin - I had to be scrooge today and I didn't let two boys join our party. They missed their homework everyday this week and when I benched them at recess didn't even sit on the bench. I was fit to be tied.
cavey - Yeah Judy, mice are the best rodents
Michelle - no marcia, you should feel honored. Your hair color must be so great that people think you must color it.
diane, little d - judy...can't go wrong with a rat
judythrika - Michelle, LOLOL
judythrika - diane, aren't rats kind of big?
naneb - ((((((((((Erin, Grace, Marcia, Michelle, Cavey, Diane, Judy)))))))))))))))))
judythrika - My books don't leave much room.
Marcia/1st/GA - Well, Michelle, that's one way to look at it..... (doubtful, but appreciative of your positive outlook)
Michelle - I didn't let one boy join our party yesterday. I've never done that, but he was completely out of control.
diane, little d - they can be
Marcia/1st/GA - what about a guinea pig?
Erin - Michelle, my first time too.
Grace/IL - Hi naneb and everyone else who came on while I was on the telephone.
Erin - Hi Grace
cavey - Guinea pigs stink BIG!
cavey - Hi Grace!!!
Erin - Much as I love my job and my class I am glad it is vacation. Just had to let that out in this esteemed group of people
judythrika - I don't want stinky. Actually my daughter suggested a bird.
Grace/IL - I'm not all here tonight so may not stay. We were on the road all day.
diane, little d - hi grace
Michelle - the last straw was when he took my large jar of glitter and glittered my entire carpet, and down his pants, and....who knows what else.
diane, little d - judy, i have hissing @#$%roaches
cavey - Birds are messy and stinky too!
Grace/IL - Kim's computer is down again. She's really upset over missing the chat.
Erin - Oh my gosh Michelle
naneb - gerbils are god small pets
judythrika - cavey, do mice stink?
diane, little d - lol...that's hissing c o c k roaches
cavey - Kim's new computer has taken over her house!
judythrika - ewwwww
naneb - male mice stink!!
judythrika - Hi Alta
cavey - HI Alta!
Marcia/1st/GA - I would love an ant farm myself
Michelle - Hi diane, alta, and nan. I'm a bit slow tonight.
diane, little d - hi alta
judythrika - This is ridiculous--I'm perfectly happy with books, LOL.
cavey - Yes, Judy, all little rodents stink, but mice are so little, they stink much less
Michelle - I'm afraid of ant farms. afraid of them breaking
judythrika - Hmmm, fish?
naneb - gerbils do not stink
cavey - ant farms are cool if they don't escape!
Erin - judy, did you not make it clear enough to your class that you like books
judythrika - nan, how big is a gerbil?
judythrika - Erin, ROFLOL
Alta Rose - Did you get an interesting gift, Judy?
cavey - Whatever you do Judy, don't get two of anything, no matter what they tell you at the store
naneb - little bigger than a mouse, plus they are awake during the day like people
Erin - Anyone who wants an ant farm can come to Valencia in the summer...plenty of ants to go around
judythrika - Alta, yeah, pressure to get a pet, LOL.
Alta Rose - What did you get?
Grace/IL - Just had another email from Kim. She says that everytime she tries to type something, everything shuts down.
cavey - I always wanted a class cat!
judythrika - cavey, but they're telling me 2 mice.....
Michelle - my secret santa...my good friend...gave me a candle set that was labeled "Mosaic Trio"....some of the others noticed right away the name. That friend, one other friend, and I ARE the "Mosaic Trio" at our school
judythrika - Marcia, that's a much better color on you, LOL, very natural!
cavey - 2 mice 6 mice 12 mice 100 mice...
Alta Rose - Neat, Michelle!
naneb - we had our faculty party last night and we played Pirate Santa, you can steal a gift, it was a lot of fun
judythrika - Michelle, that's very special!
Erin - Grace, tell Kim we miss her
judythrika - never!
naneb - Grace, tell her to shut it off and reboot
cavey - Grace, you can type back and forth for us
Grace/IL - I think Kim can read our posts, though, so you can all tell her how much we miss her.
judythrika - Sure, Grace, why not?
Marcia/1st/GA - Judy, yes, especially since I had the color you had chosen. Hey, maybe it matches my hair color!
Michelle - Nan, I did a variation of that with my kids. It was a lot of fun too!
judythrika - Marcia, I was kidding, LOL. I thought we looked nice in the same color.
Grace/IL - naneb, it's a deeper problem than just rebooting. She'll explain later.
Alta Rose - So Judy, I came in the middle of something...Did you get a rodent as a gift?
Erin - I would like to thank all of you for the weight I will be losing in the next month since I can't afford groceries since I just bought a million new books due to all the recommendations on the board LOL
Erin - KIM, we miss you. Sending our love...
Marcia/1st/GA - So, Erin, is that how it's done. I had better visit Amazon again, LOL
judythrika - Alta, LOL, I got a certificate for a pet and cage.
cavey - So that's how you do it , Erin. who needs weight watchers when you have books!
Marcia/1st/GA - Yes, Kim, I know how frustrating that is not to be able tocommunicate.
judythrika - Erin, what did you get?
naneb - great opportunity for writing Judy
Alta Rose - Oh, that's different, Judy!
naneb - lots of pet stories to come
Michelle - Erin...I've learned that cookies are very cheap to bake and can substitute for meal items when necessary. I have the same book/food issue
Erin - I knew You guys would understand...now to tell the hubby and son that they won't be eating
Erin - I got the Pressley, the Routman, the Revision Toolbox and the conferencing one
Alta Rose - That'll keep you busy, Erin!
judythrika - Erin, oh hooray--we'll have so much to talk about!
Marcia/1st/GA - Oooh , Erin, I want Routman and the conferencing one. Would the conferencing one help a first grade teacher?
Alta Rose - I am trying to order Reading Essentials, but am having problems at Barnes and Noble checkout!
Erin - Unfortunately, I need a 12 step program. Step One...Hi I'm Erin and I'm addicted to excellent books about teaching
Erin - Marcia, Judy is the expert on the conferencing one...Judy?
judythrika - Marcia, I haven't read the conferencing one yet, but I saw the author and he showed a lot of videos conferring with firsties.
cavey - I am so behind.. will I ever catch up with you guys?
Erin - Alta I got it at Amazon and Heinemann has it also
Alta Rose - I think B & N was a bit cheaper, but maybe not.
Marcia/1st/GA - well, I think I need that one. After all, that is the crux of the writing workshop
judythrika - Erin, did Amazon say your Reading Essentials would come in February?
Erin - cavey...do you think I will read them all that quick...I just like to have them for when everyone starts talking about them
judythrika - Marcia, that's a good justification, LOL.
Erin - judy, I'll have to check...hold on
Marcia/1st/GA - I am thinking Amazon had an 8 week delivery on Routman. I thought of ordering it the other day
Mrs. J - Which conferencing one are you guys talking about?
Mrs. J - What a LONG week
Michelle - How's it Going? right?
Marcia/1st/GA - How's It Going by Carl Anderson (is this right?)
Erin - Judy they say they shipped it today. I should get it by December 30
Mrs. J - The snow is really coming down here
naneb - Is everyone out for Christmas?
cavey - Okay, so I order the books, keep them in a pile by the computer, and when someone starts talking about them, I can reference page numbers and pictures
Marcia/1st/GA - Erin, that's good news about routman
judythrika - Marcia, that's right.
Alta Rose - Short week for me. I had two days off! Yes, last day was today, nan! Yippee!
Michelle - I agree, kim. I'm so glad our week ended yesterday. I don't think I could have lasted today.
Marcia/1st/GA - Mrs. J, where are you? Arent you in Michigan?
Mrs. J - I haven't heard of that one before--what do you know about it?
Erin - Checking again...hold on. Now you're making me think I didn't read it right
Erin - Cavey, by george I think you've got it
naneb - me too!! I printed 2 complete sets of report cards today, took my 2 1/2 hours
Mrs. J - Today was our last day--I distinctly said in our newsletter every week for the last month that we would NOT be having a party and everyone showed up with food anyway.
cavey - then everyone will think I'm really a professional reader
judythrika - Well, shoot, Erin, I just looked mine up and it's February (ships January 30).
Mrs. J - Yes, Marcia I'm in MI
Michelle - the author of A Fresh Approach to Teaching Punctuation calls "How's it Going" the "definitive guide to confering with young writers"
Marcia/1st/GA - Mrs. J, I grew up in Mt. Pleasant
Erin - judy, i paid the shipping on that one. It was only 3.99 and I'd done the others for free.. Although they are already shipping the Pressley one also
Erin - Judy, I think you can change your shipping preference if you want it sooner
Mrs. J - I think we talked about this before, Marcia. My brother lives works around Marietta, lives in Woodstock
Marcia/1st/GA - Oh, Kim, I am sorry. I forgot about that. Yes that's right.
judythrika - cavey, LOL, I'm soooo slow in Graves--and I WANT to read it.
judythrika - cavey, LOL, I'm soooo slow in Graves--and I WANT to read it.
diane - judy, nobody is as slow as i have been in graves
Grace/IL - Mrs. J, I think that snow is coming across from the west. It was snowy in northern Minnesota this morning, everything in the top half of the state. We were there.
Mrs. J - Michelle, have you read the punctuation book? Do you like it? My kids proofreading skills stink
Alta Rose - Is Graves a little harder to get through?
cavey - Sorry Judy, i was off reporting too.
Erin - I want to read Graves and all the others, but by the time I get home from work and clean up and do dinner I can't think straight
Michelle - I was thinking of y'all yesterday while at a party at a friend's house after work....we were all discussing our worst gifts we recieve from family, and it was agreed to be "teacher clothes". I was thinking about Judy's jumpers and vests.
judythrika - Alta, Graves isn't slow--I am.
Mrs. J - I don't know Diane. Mines still in the shrink wrapping!
cavey - I haven't picked it up again in a while, but I do want to finish it!
Erin - Send all those teacher clothes to my mom...she loves them.
diane - mine's in the same boat, kim
Marcia/1st/GA - I need to go all. I need to finish packing. We are going skiing tomorrow and I haven't skied in 20 years.
Michelle - Kim, I've read most of the Punctuation book. I haven't used it yet. Considering it.
Alta Rose - Speaking of weather--I looked out the window today and couldn't believe it was the last day of school before Christmas! No snow, and a beautiful blue sky!
naneb - have fun Marcia!! don't break your leg!!
Erin - Have fun Marcia. Merry Christmas
cavey - I don't get teacher clothes for gifts, must not exude teacher
Grace/IL - Marcia, be careful!
judythrika - Michelle, LOL, I want EVERYONE to know what I wore today: black slacks, black shirt, nice red jacket with black velvet trim---ooooh, I was almost sleek.
diane - have fun marcia
Alta Rose - Merry Christmas, Marcia!
cavey - Have fun Marcia be careful!
Mrs. J - What do you think of it Michelle?
judythrika - Bye, Marcia, be careful!
Grace/IL - Sharp, Judy
cavey - OOOHHH Judy Sleeka!
Erin - Very nice Judy...in fact it is sleek
Marcia/1st/GA - I know I am a little worried about it, but hey! Yes, Have a Merry Christmas everyone!
judythrika - And then a kid gave me a teacher necklace and I had to wear it!
Erin - From sleek to geek in 5 seconds straight LOLOL
cavey - I wore my "all of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names" shirt
diane - i got the world's ugliest snowman figurine...it's clownish and freaky
Erin - LOL diane..."freaky"
Michelle - So far I really like it. She uses an inquiry-approach to teaching punctuation. It would be easy to use this book in the classroom.
cavey - Yes, Judy, but at least you didn't have to stick a pin in it!
Mrs. J - Is it a Stenhouse Michelle?
Erin - Judy, did you watch Survivor last night?
Michelle - it's actually published by Scholastic.
Erin - Once it was down to those last two dopes I turned it off.
cavey - A "chucky snowman that watches you, Little d?
Mrs. J - Is the conference one by Scholastic too?
judythrika - Erin, I did and loved it. What did you think?
Michelle - I had bought it before Mae first mentioned it...but I didn't mention it first because I was afraid to admit I had bought a Scholastic book for professional reading.
Erin - I think they really nailed Helen...was she @#$%ed or what
naneb - Scholastic has some really good books lately
diane - lol, cavey...i found out that his sibling gave one to her teacher. the 2 kids actually fought about which one to give to which teacher....apparently they all knew that mine was hideous!
Erin - Should have been p i s s e d
judythrika - I'm glad Helen didn't win after turning out to be such a poor sport. I have very little tolerance for poor sports, LOL.
Mrs. J - LOL, Michelle. That's what I was just thinking! But it must have been more affordable than some of the books I've bought lately!
Michelle - lol diane
Erin - Talk about poor sports winning...do you watch Amazing Race
Michelle - no, I can't remember who publishes the conferencing book
judythrika - Nope, Erin. But I'm addicted to Boston Public (if I'm making confessions).
Michelle - it's around $15.
Mrs. J - Oh my gosh, Erin. Was she the whiniest woman you have ever seen?
Erin - Yikes, me too Judy. My principal even watches that
naneb - what is the name of the punctuation book?
Mrs. J - Didn't you just want to reach through the screen and throttle her?
Erin - Amen, Mrs, J...she should not have won on the "whine" factor alone
Michelle - Judy, as I was planning to have a party yesterday afternoon I remembered one of your other confessions...something about having some sort of Halloween shindig or something
Mrs. J - I wanted the two guys. I thought the married couple was mean to each other
Erin - If I was that close to a million bucks, I would suck it up and tough it out
judythrika - Mrs. J--yes!
Michelle - A Fresh Approach to Teaching Punctuation
cavey - No, Michelle, her latest confession was the Junkyard wars turkeys
Michelle - It's actually on sale in the January issue of Lucky bookclub. for $10 or so
Erin - I agree Mrs. J...I really wanted the twins but once they were gone I liked the brothers
Mrs. J - I'm surprised her partner didn't commit murder
judythrika - Yup, Michelle, guilty as charged.
Michelle - oh...that was it.
naneb - Thanks, Michelle
judythrika - Oh, I thought you were still talking about Helen, LOL, sorry.
naneb - I can use bonus points can't I?
judythrika - Yes, nan, you can.
Michelle - I think so....I have it here so I'll go check. brb
Erin - Judy, I hate to admit it but I wanted Helen to win from amongst those four choices
naneb - I have over 4000 bonus points
Mrs. J - I liked Jake
Mrs. J - The four at the end weren't easy to choose from
Alta Rose - Grace, are you and I the only ones who don't watch Survivor?
judythrika - I wanted Helen or Brian. I like the way Brian thought through the possibilities. He was a little smarmy, but a pretty good player.
Michelle - ok....It's $13.95 in the Lucky catelog. No bonus points can be used.
cavey - No, there's me too!
Erin - Yeah, Mrs. J...he's who I was really rooting for. I hope they do something different next time. This time got a little boring
judythrika - Oh, yes, if we back up, I really liked Jake.
Mrs. J - I don't think this one was as good as the others--not much drama
Grace/IL - Perhaps, Alta -- We don't have cable so watch very little TV.
Alta Rose - OK, 3 of us Cavey? Lol.
diane - ughhh...i'm having a hard time focusing
Michelle - wow! I can't save bonus points that long! I think the most I've had at once is around 400.
Erin - Did you know that Brian used to be a porn star and just brought his wife to court for punching him while he was sleeping and breaking his nose?
cavey - Not much TV here either Grace, and I have cable
Mrs. J - My eight year old thinks they should drop them in a COLD environment one of these times
Alta Rose - Michelle, my bonus points are always used the very next month!
Michelle - No cable here either. I would like to see Trading Spaces someday, though. My extended family is really into it.
Erin - Mrs. J...that's what we were talking about today...the Arctic perhaps?
cavey - I'm trying to figure out how they have time to read and watch all this TV!
Mrs. J - Of course, then there's no skin
judythrika - Erin--yuck! I hadn't heard that! I wondered why he was so angry about his wife on that video.
Erin - If you don't have cable around here you can't get any t.v. at all
Michelle - me too, cavey!
judythrika - Michelle, I LOVE Trading Spaces.
Erin - Mrs. J...although in Jan's case (Survivor Jan) that might have been a good thing
Mrs. J - What do you think of the new designers Judy?
Michelle - and I'm like Sadie...I can't read if I'm on the computer. If I take time off the computer I can read, but I can't do both.
Erin - I read while I watch t.v.....leftover habit from college
cavey - I have seen trading spaces a few times, but It's too long. I think they could do it in a half hour. I watch the first 15 and the last 5 minutes sometimes
Alta Rose - Wow, that's talent, Erin!
naneb - My bonus points are from the 21X points in the September catalog
judythrika - Mrs. J, I don't like them so far, but I haven't seen many episodes. I've really hated everything the new woman has done.
Michelle - I can't concentrate on my reading if I'm watching TV too. I've tried.
Mrs. J - Me too. Did you see the one where she made that bedspread out of fake flowers and it looked like a grave?
cavey - Shoot, I can't walk and chew gum at the same time
Michelle - oh, nan, I can never get that much money in sales to even come close to the 21x bonus points. In my dreams.
judythrika - cavey, that's how I watch Trading Spaces. I watch the beginning, go do some work or some reading, then come back to see what happened.
Alta Rose - No, I couldn't do both at once.
Erin - Thank you, Alta. It's one of those rare ones that few appreciate. LOL
judythrika - Mrs. J, I did see the graveyard one--it was awful!
naneb - Michelle, I used school money and got the 100 books for $99 and then spent another 100 to get to $199, I am using the 10 books for rewards and incentives
Alta Rose - Then there's my daughter--Chatting on MSN, listening to music and doing homework all at the same time....
judythrika - cavey, you underestimate your wonderful self!
Michelle - I heard about that one from my family...also about one where the walls have hay all over them. for reals???
naneb - I like Changing Rooms on BBCA better than Trading spaces
cavey - Oh judy, you overestimate me darling!
Erin - I would rather be on "While You Were Out" At least a family member is there to give some guidance
judythrika - Michelle, I didn't see the hay episode, but I saw one where Gen/Jen? put moss on the walls!
Mrs. J - Straw actually
Michelle - I saw one episode of While You Were Out with my family on Thanksgiving.
Michelle - that's where they all told me about Trading Spaces.
naneb - I like Sensible Chic as my favorite decorating show
naneb - it is on HGTV
Mrs. J - And they had little kids
Erin - Good choice, nan
Michelle - the episode I saw was filmed in Portland. The wife was so upset she proceeded to get drunk.
judythrika - nan, if we're switching channels, I like Designing for the Sexes.
Erin - Which one was that Michelle?
Erin - I haven't seen all of them, just a few
Mrs. J - Why was she so upset?
cavey - I want a show where they give ME the money and time without any advice from any whacky designers, just some furniture movers, and let me make my own house over!
Alta Rose - I have no schema for any of these! :-]
naneb - me too, Judy but that guy is so annoying
Erin - cavey, that's called "Marry a Millionaire"
naneb - good plan Cavey!!
Erin - Did you see that new show that is coming on "Joe Millionaire?"
Michelle - The one where they made the husband's home office into a Mexican-themed room. it turned out nice, but it was hard to tell how it was going to turn out.
Michelle - Alta, I have one episode of one show to grasp onto. That's my schema.
cavey - So alta, how's the weather up there?
Mrs. J - Speaking of marrying a millionaire, have you seen the ads for the new fox show? The women think they are competing to marry a millionaire, but the guy really has a $19,000 a year job
Erin - THey take a really gorgeous guy, the women and set him up in a big mansion.....the guy however, only makes $19,000 a year..HMMM
Alta Rose - Oh no, Mrs. J!
Erin - Mrs. J. great minds
Michelle - geez.
Mrs. J - I think that is just awful!
Alta Rose - Warm, Cavey. Very warm. We are in the middle of a drought.
Alta Rose - No snow.
cavey - Those Fox people, programming at its best
Alta Rose - It isn't good. We need moisture.
judythrika - Okay, besides Boston Public, Survivor, Jeopardy, Trading Spaces and HGTV, I LOVE CSI.
Erin - All right gotta go. Promised my son I would get off.
Erin - Merry Christmas, everyone!!!!!
naneb - We leave for London in 32 days!!!!
cavey - I think our drought is finally getting better alta
Alta Rose - Merry Christmas, Erin!
Mrs. J - Have you seen the Miami one?
judythrika - Bye Erin. Keep thinking--I'm waiting............
Mrs. J - Bye, Erin
Alta Rose - Oh nan, how exciting!
judythrika - No, Mrs. J, is the Miami one good?
naneb - Judy!! I cann't call my sister when it is on because she will not talk to me and it is long distance!!!!
cavey - Bye Blondie!!
Michelle - ok, CSI is pretty good.
Erin - I know Judy, now that I'm not so busy I will email you...I have not forgotten...
Michelle - (yay! a show I know!)
judythrika - nan, LOLOL, I don't think I like it that much.
naneb - we got our documents today plus a map and a sightseeing book!!
Michelle - I also like Law and Order: Criminal Intent. I like that guy on it.
cavey - Okay, I do watch CSI
judythrika - LOL, we just started vacation today and we can only talk about TV. Hooray for us!
Alta Rose - The Practise--That's one I don't miss.
cavey - That red haired guy on the Miami one is a terrible actor
Michelle - Nan, how exciting! I went to london in October 2 years ago. We spent one entire day in the Tower of London.
cavey - Well, I could talk about chocolate too
Michelle - I love history! I studied the history of England in college
judythrika - Good girl, cavey. I hadn't watched TV (except Jeopardy) for years, but now I'm really into it again.
naneb - My husband always watches either the History channel or the Science channel so I don't see any of those shows
Michelle - that's what I was thinking judy...about talking tv.
naneb - I wanted to ride the London eye, but it will be closed for maintenance
Alta Rose - Sounds like my hubby nan. He likes the Discovery Channel.
Mrs. J - My daughter loves the Discovery Channel. She's a walking encyclopedia
naneb - I usually sllep on the couch while he watches tv!! LOL!!
Alta Rose - Have you been to London before, nan?
Michelle - we didn't ride on the London Eye. Too much money. We were having to cut down by that point.
naneb - No, alta!! I can hardly wait but it is going to be cold!!
Mrs. J - My husband and I like the same shows so that works out nicely
Mrs. J - How cold, nan?
Michelle - make sure you have waterproof shoes. and bring an extra umbrella. for when you leave one on the underground
Alta Rose - What's the London Eye?
naneb - 40's during the day and 30's at night
naneb - I have a neat umbrella that folds up and fits in your pocket
Alta Rose - brb..Need hubby to translate weather! Lol!
Mrs. J - Hey, that's warmer than here!
naneb - London Eye is like a giant ferris wheel but it goes very slowly, you get on and off while it is moving, you can see all of London from it
naneb - Mrs. J, I am in south Mississippi so that is cold
Michelle - it's about the same as here. It shouldn't be too bad if it's cloudy. A warm 40-something
naneb - I have my all weather mocs from Land's End, these are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn
cavey - Okay, okay butting in here and changing the subject. I have no schema for those of you who have not fessed up about yourselves. Spill it girls, ages, hair color height ( I'll let you slide on weight this time, it'd be a lie anyway). Help me here!
Alta Rose - Hubby just translated. That's the balmy weather we are enjoying right now! Lol!
judythrika - Cold here for California. And my classroom flooded on Monday. Yuck.
naneb - my sister from south Dakota is going to send me a coat
Mrs. J - You'll be having so much fun the temp probably won't bother you
Michelle - I learned something from some cheesy talk show today....
Michelle - I am slightly taller than average and slightly thinner than average.
Michelle - does that help?
judythrika - I'm average.
cavey - Very funny!
Alta Rose - Cavey--39 years, 5 foot 7, strawberry blond hair.
cavey - No Judy, you're blond and sleek!
Michelle - "average" for an american woman is 5'4" and 140 lbs.
naneb - Cavey, there are pics of some of us on the Yahoo site
Mrs. J - Who says that's average?
judythrika - Oh, Alta, I would love to be 5'7". I'm 5'5".
Mrs. J - I don't know many who fit that bill
cavey - Can you link me nan?
Alta Rose - My dad was 6 foot 3. My brother is tall, too.
cavey - Alta, I'm 5'5" and a brunette, but thank you for playing
Michelle - I can't remember where the stat came from. It was quoted on that talk show with Danny Boneducci. (however he spells his last name)
Mrs. J - 5'7", 33, I like to say dark brown hair although others say black, with annoying sprinkles of gray popping up more than I'd like
naneb - sure hold on
naneb - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mosaicteachers/
naneb - you will have to join the group and then go to photos
Michelle - ok.....5'5.5" 130 lbs (I think. I don't own a scale). 32 years old.
Michelle - brown hair, brown eyes.
Mrs. J - Oh, blue eyes, here
Mrs. J - glasses
Alta Rose - Blue eyes for me, too.
Alta Rose - And glasses.
Michelle - I have glasses. I used to wear contacts, but now that I'm an old maid I've really let myself go.
cavey - Thanks nan, I bookmarked it. I'll go back.
naneb - brown eyes, brown and gray hair
Alta Rose - I tried to wear contacts, but my eyes were red all the time.
Alta Rose - You should join that site, Cavey. It's very good.
judythrika - Blue eyes and glasses here, too.
Michelle - It is good. but it's hard to keep up with sometimes!
cavey - Brown eyes, no glasses
judythrika - cavey, yes, do join. We're a great group.
cavey - Thanks alta, I will.
naneb - I have to go, my son wants the computer
Mrs. J - Hey, how's Thea? I haven't heard much from her.
judythrika - bye nan!
Alta Rose - Take Care, nan. Merry Christmas!
naneb - I will talk to some of you on sunday, if not have a Merry christmas!!!
Mrs. J - Bye, Nan. Merry Christmas
cavey - But, I haven't read the book
Alta Rose - What time are the chats on Sunday, nan?
cavey - Bye Nan!
Michelle - I don't know where I'd be without the Mosaic group, though. Many of the things I've done this year have come straight from that group. Also many of my book purchases come from there too.
judythrika - cavey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You haven't read Mosaic of Thought??????????????
naneb - I heard from her the other day, she is still pretty down and bothered at school
naneb - Alta, they are whenever someone gets in the chatroom
Michelle - way too early for me! those chats are 6:30 a.m. Pacific time!
cavey - I told you you overestimated me, Judy. ( hanging head in shame)
naneb - Cavey!!!! You absolutely must read that book!!!
Alta Rose - That would be 7:30 here.
judythrika - cavey, lol, well, you must. Really, this one book changed my life.
Alta Rose - Yes Cavey! That and Reading With Meaning.
Michelle - how long do those chats usually last? Last Sunday I woke up at 8 am.
cavey - Well, its on my list....
naneb - Michelle, we are almost never in there then, I get home about 8:30 central time and there are usually people in the room or they come when I send an email
naneb - plus Strategies That Work
Michelle - Reading with Meaning is wonderful. My friend got her picture taken with Debbie Miller while she was in Denver. I was jealous!
Alta Rose - Move it to the top, Cavey!
naneb - I will hear her this summer
judythrika - cavey, MOT is a fun read--you'll be shouting 'YES' as you go.
cavey - Okay Okay, read read read read read buy buy buy buy. I got it!
Mrs. J - Oh, you are so lucky, Nan
Mrs. J - Where at?
Michelle - that's 6:30 here. Way to early for me. oh, well. at least I have this chat.
naneb - Birmingham, AL, it is a 2 day workshop
cavey - I had the 6 traits books at the top. Should I do MOT first Threeka?
Mrs. J - Yes, yes, yes
naneb - Yes!! cavey
judythrika - nan, did I ever tell you I have a cousin who lives in Birmingham?
naneb - Judy, go visit and come to the workshop!!!
judythrika - Tough choice, cavey, apples and oranges.
Mrs. J - I tell ya, nothing ever comes to Michigan!
naneb - I think Sharon is going too
judythrika - LOL, not a kissing (or visiting) cousin.
naneb - and Marcia and maybe Terry
cavey - Should I make a fruit salad?
Michelle - wow, now I really know I need to get the 6 traits book, if it's a "tough choice" between that and Mosaic.
Mrs. J - Don't you think that working with the strategies helps with their writing?
Mrs. J - Don't you think that working with the strategies helps with their writing?
Alta Rose - brb
Mrs. J - Oops
naneb - I have to go, good night
judythrika - LOL, cavey, if you're thinking about setting up/organizing/evaluating your writing, Creating Writers is great. But to learn about how we think about reading, go for MOT. Seriously, I love that book and have read it many times.
Michelle - you know, I need to go too. My son isn't doing too well. Getting sicker by the hour.
Michelle - Have a great Christmas!
Alta Rose - Yes, Kim. Right now we are working on SI. The writing program I use also teaches them to use SI, so they blend perfectly together.
Mrs. J - Night, Michelle. Hope he feels better
Mrs. J - Merry Christmas
Alta Rose - Merry Christmas, Michelle. I hope he's better soon!
judythrika - bye Michelle. Hope he feels better soon!
cavey - Oh heck, I'll just get them all and pile them up near the computer and join the mosaic group ( althought I have a really hard time spelling that word)
judythrika - then call it MOT
cavey - goodnight Michelle!
Mrs. J - Well, I was hoping to make it to midnight but I am going to bed. Just 15 minutes shy
Alta Rose - The Mosaic Group is reading another book now.
Alta Rose - Merry Christmas Mrs. J!
judythrika - Back to Kim's excellent question, yes, I think learning the strategies definitely helps with their writing.
Mrs. J - Have a merry christmas everyone
Mrs. J - I might catch the Sunday chat--I always forget
cavey - Bye Kim!
judythrika - Good night, ladies. I'm off to read (fiction).
Alta Rose - What are you reading, Judy?
cavey - Me too. Gotta go! Email me Judy!
Alta Rose - I guess I'll call it a night, too, as I haven't talked to hubby since he got home!
