tyylee - Hello Sadie, how is RR going for you this year?
Melissa/1st - hello
Sadie - Hi tyylee, Hi melissa
Melissa/1st - hi sadie
Sadie - Pretty good..... I'm in week 6 already!
Sadie - It is interesting how we seem to have patterns of students each year. Last year our struggle was with passivity in our hardest to teach... this year it is language and articulation difficulties
tyylee - We are in week four and two of mine still don't know all their letters. It will be quite a while before we get to M & B. I do have one who is doing well. though.
Sadie - Anyone have any experience on working with severe articulation problems? My poor babies (2 of them) cannot pronounce words correctly so HRSIW is very difficult for them. The other 2 are 2nd language learners but I know how to work with that!
Sadie - tylee, my 2nd language learners are low in LID but one of them knows what to do with what he knows so I am hoping he will fly. He had an excellent K teacher last year
Sadie - tylee, do you have 2 or 3 students?
tyylee - We had one with artic problems last year. We usually had to stretch the words for them so they could hear the sounds properly. Ww also always tried to have the children repeat the words after us but we let them listen to our stretching when hsiw.
Sadie - tyylee, did you find that eventually that would transfer and they would be able to do it independently in the classroom? I am really worried about one of mine. It seems like his tongue is too big for his mouth. He drools and his head is shaped kinda funny. But he is a smart little guy!
tyylee - I have the usual four students, but have lost one already and so one is still in roaming, one who is being tested soon, one flying, and one who is learning but slowly.
Sadie - oops... I realized that I meant to write 3 or 4 students earlier...
tyylee - The child with artic problems learned to write most of the high fluency words and for many other words could hear them correctly in his head after a few times practicing them even though he couldn't artic. them aloud. The transfer to the classroom was so so. He had the most trouble with new words if someone wasn't there to say them slowly for him before he tried to hsiw.
Sadie - tylee, i am so worried about this boy. He is so excited to show me that he as learned new things, but he is very shy. His teacher is very strict so I don't think that it is the best environment for him
Sadie - Where are you, tylee?
tyylee - Was there suppose to be a topic for tonight? I slept through the last chat. One on one instruction is probably the best thing ever for the shy child who gets lost in a regular classroom. You can give him the confidence and support he won't get there.
Sadie - I don't know, tylee. I so rarely get to come anymore that its been a while for me
Sadie - Phooey...I just heard a crash and a yell so that is my cue to go! I'll try to come back before the hour is up! Bye!
tyylee - I have some homework that I need to get started on soon so I think I'll bow out for tonight. Goodnight.
