pj - now in Flagstaff, AZ...but just signed a contract for next year!!!
Val - Did everyone have a good "tax day"?
Stanley - pj, I'm in the process of applying to L.A. for a contracted position. What did you think of it there?
pj - combat pay...that's what I thought! LOL.
Val - How much do you subs get paid a day? Where I live it's $75.00 for certified subs, seems low to me!
pj - just depends on what part of LA.
pj - I get $60 a day...
Stanley - Arggggh -- taxes!But I had a decent day of subbing today!
pj - yeah, me too...actually subbed in my content area...woo-hoo!
Stanley - pj, Kudos on the contract!What grade?
Stanley - San Diego area can pay anywhere from $80-115, depending upon the district.
pj - 6-12 music thanks!
pj - it's a 4A school...principal says i can anything I want for classes...no budget!!!
pj - Stanley, were you there during the teacher strike?
pj - a few years ago..
pj - i remember they were so hard up for subs...we got $140 a day.
Stanley - Last yr I made just a tad less than $25K from subbing, though that was done by working > 200 days, AND getting to do 14 days of intercession!
pj - man...subbing can be hard work...and IS hard money.
Stanley - T strike in San Diego, pj? If so, that happened during my T.Ed courses.
pj - It was amazing...they were out for a couple of weeks.
Stanley - Val, ns... jump right in, ya' hear?
Stanley - You're talking about the '96 strike in San Diego City Schools, pj?
pj - yes...guess it was more than a couple of years ago...time flies.
Stanley - pj, what's a "4A" school? Also, what parts of LA would you recommend avoiding?
pj - It's been so long that I don't remember the school...it was alternative school of some kind...where I was.
pj - 4A means they are at a high level for things like sports, music, drama...they have an indoor olympic pool...stuff like that..
pj - LA...I would avoid East LA and South Central.
Stanley - pj, I'll do SPED, though I USUALLY try to avoid alternative schools...
pj - Stay away from places like Pomona...culver city...very, very challenging.

Stanley - pj, so where else do you think I'd get "sent" in LA?I speak reasonable Spanish, & I normally work in San Diego's barrio schools, so...
pj - I was subbing at jr high in Montclair/Ontario in 1989 and kid brought a gun to school!
pj - pulled it out in class..

nyslave - every single day i got calls, i cannot afford to chosen!!!
nyslave - subbing in ny get $98 after taxes.
pj - so you want to leave SD? is it cost of living?
pj - i lived in an old building on 6th and elm for about 10 years.
