Stanley - Greetings
Sunny - I missed a few meetings, so I knew I had to make this one.
Bluette - last day in HS cafe duty, tomorrow is 1/2 day elem
Sunny - When are you finished, Bluette?
Stanley - Talk about missing… that's **I** on the Board. What's been happening there recently????
Bluette - the 25th is last day for kiddos
Sunny - Not much, Stanley. A big post about someone on the T board getting subs all riled up.
Stanley - Sunny, your schools are still in session?
Sunny - Mine was friday!
Sunny - Last day was Friday! I am relieved!
Stanley - So, the irritating post was on the MainBoard?
Bluette - I got a speeding ticket on the way home,
Sunny - It started there, yes. It has gotten a little out of control. We subs are passionate people!
Sunny - That stinks, Bluette. Couldn't get out of it?
Bluette - I will go to court, the judge my personal lawyer!!
Sunny -
Stanley - Blue, SORRY about the ticket![You know, prior to subbing, I NEVER used to speed! Might there be a connection?!?
]
Stanley - Sunny, if I want to track down the offensive strand, for what do I search???
Sunny - It's under pre-student teacher, and then Kathy SD/ started a nicer one.
nathalie - is this a meeting or just you all talking??? just wondering
Stanley - Greetings, nathalie!
Sunny - both
Sunny - Are you a sub, nathalie?
nathalie - bluette, thanks for the email, things have been goofy here
nathalie - no, i am not a sub, do i need to leave????
Sunny - no...of course not! Just curious
Bluette - ofcourse you can stay
nathalie - i am actually looking for some reinforcement
Stanley - Sunny, was the offensive strand under the "common" rubric of contracted Ts "slamming" Subs?
nathalie - i am moving back home closter to my parents, and i just want to hear that i am doing the right thing
Sunny - Sort of....this teacher had a bad experience with a student teacher, but
Bluette - don't know if i will sub next year
Sunny - that all subs and student teachers suck, etc....
Stanley - nathalie, how so "reinforcement?"
nathalie - now, i have subbed, and now i am teaching an elective, so that seems like subbing, no respect and not considered a real teacher
Sunny - so, naturally everyone got upset, and the OP doesn't undertand why
nathalie - stanley, just verbal, the problem is that it isnt immediate, i have three weeks, ehehehe
Sunny - what elective do you teach?
nathalie - stanley and sunny, where are you?
Bluette - my last class the kiddos were supposed to go to library but it was closed, so i showed a Bill Nye science guy video and they read Science News aloud, then did a crossword puzzle
nathalie - Computer applications and technology integration
Sunny - I live in the Northeast
Stanley - Sunny, "OP???"
Bluette - whats OP?
nathalie - bluette, that sounds like a good day
Sunny - That's a very important elective!
Sunny - OP=original poster
nathalie - sunny, but none the less an elective
Bluette - so it was not the lesson the teacher expected, what could I do, they needed data from computers
nathalie - i did teach elementary school 1st 2nd and 3rd for 7 years
Sunny - So they consider you not important?
Bluette - hope she was not counting on grading the project....
Stanley - nathalie, I'm @ the OPPOSITE end from Sunny -- San Diego, where I'm completing my 7th yr of subbing.
Sunny - Why no subbing next year, Bluette?
nathalie - here is how i have ALWAYS handled ( and that is not the right word) subs
Bluette - I think you are are avery important component in any school Nat and will be even more important in the coming years
Sunny - I agree w/ Bluette
Bluette - it has worn me down, not having any security, regular income or benes
nathalie - i have always left plans but then said, as long as the kids are safe and you have a good day, i dont care what youdo, here are the plans if they get done, good, if not, then good
Sunny - I hear ya, Bluette...so what will you do instead?
nathalie - bluette, the benes arent that good, ehehehe
Bluette - i had 3 cafe periods but so many adults patrolling they could not have food fights
Bluette - looking under computer table for benes*
Sunny - I am very good w/ following plans...I always do 100% of what is expected of me, so when I hear that subs "suck", I do get upset.
nathalie - as well, i leave lunch money adn soda money
Stanley - As for technology… I try to do as many things as possible on the 'puter -- including using a grading program for my G-1's math. [I'm in a long term.]
Bluette - instead srs played pranks on the intercom, girl and boy panting, yes, yes, yeeeeesssss
Bluette - now that was funny
Bluette - hope to be a TA or just drop out of education
Sunny - How's the long term, Stanley? I just finished one w/ gr. 5
Stanley - nathalie, your perspective on subbing sounds PERFECT to ME!I'd say MOST of the people for whom I sub view "things" much as you!
nathalie - i don't have a job for the fall, so i may be subbing, hope not, just so i can have something permanent
nathalie - thanks stanley, i have always done that,
Sunny - I'm tired of it, to be honest. I just want something permanent. Definitely not for a lack of trying.
Stanley - Sunny, other than taking up **LOTS** of my time, the long term is GREAT -- a *SUPERB* group of kids!![]()
Sunny - When i have my own classroom, I know I will treat subs like gold!
nathalie - and when i had an assistant, i would make a list of things that needed to be done, and i would say, heres a list, who ever gets to it, gets to it, and if we don't then it will get done tomorrow
Sunny - First grade, right Stanley? You must be tired! They're a busy, but cute age.
nathalie - if a sub leaves a not so good note, boy oh boy the kids are in trouble, ehehehe
Sunny - LOL, nathalie! Good to hear that!
Bluette - subs have to work so hard, starting with the scavenger hunt looking for attendance sheets, cards, lessons, materials
nathalie - my kids got one bad note, oh did they hear it, they said they didnt do it, i said well your name is on here so you did something, ehehee
Sunny - Yes, it is a scavenger hunt! Especially if the teacher is not organized!
Bluette - by fall i will feel better but right now I have been so used and abused, begging for assigns etc...
Stanley - nath, I'm CONVINCED there'd be *FEWER* problems if **MORE** classroom Ts put the "fear of God" in kids who take advantage of Subs!![]()
Sunny - Yep, Bluette. I know how you feel. I am thinking I may not sub in fall...don't know yet...
Sunny - Or I may sub elsewhere, not sure....
subduck - So is this the "misery loves company" chat? Hee hee!!
nathalie - stanley, i do and feel it is one thing to goof off for the reg teacher, but another thing to goof for a sub, double trouble
Bluette - what can't all teachers put everything in the same place, why can't every school give you a folder of info, bell schedules, rules, class list
nathalie - we have a folder for that stuff blue
Sunny - yes, subduck!
Sunny -
Stanley - Sunny, the **MOST** tiring thing about my job is the stress of having to ALSO fit in RLA in Spanish, which is DEFINITELY my 2nd language!
Sunny - Wow! Mine too, Stanley. When does school end for you?
Bluette - I have to know everything about every grade and subject, geesh, no one can do that
Sunny - I know....I always say I'm "a Jack of all trades"
Sunny - How long have you been subbing, subduck?
Stanley - Hi, subduck!Sunny, Mon, 7/21 [if you can believe THAT], is the last day for us as WELL as the kids.
subduck - tooooooo long!!!!!! . . . . . 20 years
Sunny - Stanley, that's a looong year!
Sunny - 20 years, subduck? I bow to you!!!
Sunny - I've only got 3. I guess I'm the rookie! LOL
subduck - Ah shucks...gee thanks
Stanley - 20 yrs?!?!? How many days/yr have you averaged, & would you have PREFERRED to have been contracted?
Sunny - It must be something you enjoy doing!
subduck - My initial intention was to try it out so's I could check out different schools and grade levels. ...I'm still checking?!
Sunny - LOL
subduck - I used to average 175 or more, but I've been lazier and taking off more for my own kids...this year I'll have 155, i think
Sunny - I usually avg around 130-150...This year just 117.
subduck - I'm in L. A., so with the year round school's I could work throughout the summer...
Stanley - Sunny, SDCS' yr arounds had 5 wks off surrounding New Yr's & 4 wks off in the spring.
Sunny - Well, that explains it. In the NE, we get 1 week off in Dec, Feb, and Apr. We start school again end of Aug.
subduck - Where's everyone from?
Sunny - I'm in the northeast
subduck - brrrrr.....
Stanley - subduck, are you with LAUSD? If so, & you're credentialed, you definitely COULD have had your "own" class!!
Sunny - Yes, right now it certainly is brrr...we can't get any luck weather wise this year!
subduck - Oh yes, I've turned down many offers. I like being a "free agent." If I get a crumby class I don't have to face them again!!
subduck - It's about 80 here.
Stanley - SDCS = San Diego City Schools, where I spend the **OVERWHELMING** majority of my time!
Sunny - We're about 60 ish right now..maybe less.
nathalie - Texas here
subduck - hey, that's probably a heat wave compared to your winter temps!
Sunny - But we'll be 90 before long...don't like the weather in New england? Wait a minute and it will change!
Sunny - True, subduck. Winter was not good! Oh well. Just have to live w/it, I guess
Stanley - subduck, in what mini-district(s) do you sub? [BTW, I anticipate relocating there for '04/'05 -- assuming they're still HUNGRY for credentialed Ts!
Bluette - I am in NYState where getting a cert is almost impossible and nobody gets reciprocal cert from other states any more
Sunny - Texas, nathalie? How's the weather?
subduck - Whereabouts in New England...I have a good friend in Littleton, Mass.
Bluette - I have been a sub for 3 years too
nathalie - weather is pretty good, raining a lot, but i am sure it will get hot soon, it was int eh 100s already but not for a few days
Bluette - I have a job lead for NH thinking of applying
Stanley - Greetings, jenny!Jump right in!
Sunny - Bluette, why is it so hard to be credentialed? Is there tests involved?
Bluette - it is for reading specialist K-5, can do alternate route there
Sunny - Do you live near Houston, nathalie? I have a friend who wants to move there.
nathalie - wow, bluette, NH? pretty state
Stanley - Sunny, the credentialing question was directed to me?
Bluette - many many hoops to jump through, LAST, CST, ATS-W
Sunny - NH is very nice! Like to vacation there a lot!
nathalie - no, i am in the dallas area
Sunny - No, sorry Stanley. It was to Bluette.
nathalie - i wouldn't live in Houston, it is nasty hot there,
Jenny - HI--It's hot here in Minnesota. Hello everyone.
nathalie - hi jenny
nathalie - i love minnesota,
Bluette - then proof of foreighn lang in colleg, child abuse and violence prevention classes, student teaching
Sunny - Oh, thanks, nathalie. I'll tell ny friend. She'd be in for a shock moving there!
nathalie - sunny, i do really like the dallas area, she will too
Bluette - I was trying to do all college course for cert in 02-03, then student teach and voila, cert..
Sunny - That is a lot, Bluette, but it sounds normal to me. Lately the requirements are changing everywhere.
Bluette - could not take 3 classes in the fall, too expensive and personal difficulties involved
Sunny - How long have you subbed, jenny?
Bluette - but the rules have changed now, harder to get cert
Stanley - Jenny, in MN are most Ts credentialed after a 4 yr major in Education?
Sunny - Of course! We are now required to take this new test to be "highly qualified" now
nathalie - it is hard to get a job in MN, very competitive
Bluette - people are leaving NYState to teach in friendlier places
Sunny - We just heard about it last month, and now everyone is scrambling to take it.
nathalie - Bluette, there are jobs all over NY but they arent interested in out of state
Bluette - I have a BA in English Lit, was trying to get into masters program
Bluette - NYCity, dying for teachers, but it is a very difficult environment
Bluette - nat did they tell you cert in Texas was insufficient?
nathalie - Bluette, i applied in upstate, but no word
Bluette - what subject nat?
nathalie - i can't imagine why any other states cert is not good enough
nathalie - students move and aren't told their ed isnt good enough
nathalie - bluette, technology integration
Sunny - me either, but I think a lot of it is that "No Child...." act
Bluette - thats NY for you, a fee to pay every step of the way too
Stanley - Blue, I'd suspect that MOST large cities [San Diego, excepted] are "dying" of certificated Ts!
nathalie - Stanley, my cousin wants to move to SD
Bluette - technology is really needed!! we have so many openings in NY for math science technology spanish and sped
Sunny - Heeyyyyy, Magoo!!!
Bev/CA - Hello, you guys.........I'm not a sub.........anymore....but I used to be. I now teach 5th grade in Orange County, CA, and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all of you!
nathalie - is this e chat bev???
Bluette - Magoo, how are you dear friend
Magoo - Hello, peeps---sorry I'm late...I don't think I will EVER get the time zones straight.
Bev/CA - nathalie, this is echat bev
Sunny - Thank you, Bev! That's really what I need to hear now!
nathalie - (((((bev)))))))))))))))))0
Stanley - Hi, Magoo & Bev!Bev, I'm in San Diego, how about you?
Magoo - Sunny, I didn't realize we were the same skin..........
Bev/CA - Sunny, I taught a 5/6 combo this year, and I was absent several days. God, I know what you guys go through!
Bluette - Bev that is so nice of you, do you leave chocolate for your sub??
Bev/CA - Buena Park, Stanley...near Anaheim
Sunny - I know, great minds think alike!
JennyMN - Hi again--got kicked off network so am Jenny MN now. Most teachers do get credentials after 4 years. It is a matter of completing licensure requirements within a 7 year timelimit.
Magoo - Blu, how are you doing, dearheart??
Stanley - nathalie, is your cousin a T? If so, what's her specialty?
Sunny - I had a long term in 5/6 combo once. That was a challenge! You have my admiration for doing it all year!
Magoo - I had a 5th grade teacher leave me 2 pieces of truly fine chocolate the other day....last week, come to think of it.....
nathalie - no he isnt a teacher, another cousin is a T in La Habra
Bluette - oooh, she is a sweetheart!!
Magoo - So, is everyone finished for this school year???
Sunny - HI BeeSeeLisa...I always enjoy reading your posts!
BeSeeLisa - I teach a grade 5/6 class also, but spent many years as a "teacher on call" as we say up here
Bluette - noooo. hs last day was today, elem ends 25th
BeSeeLisa - Hey Blue
Sunny - I am finished, Magoo! Yahhoooo!
Stanley - Bev, I'm anticipating being in LAUSD for '04/'05 -- assuming they're still eager for CREDENTIALED applicants!
JennyMN - Yes--school's out in rural MN.
Bluette - so nice to have all of us here in chat!
BeSeeLisa - Hello Sunny-- and thank you for saying so!! |-o
Bev/CA - I must go, but I did want you folks to know how much I appreciate all you do. It's so nice when I know that my class is left in capable hands. Have a wonderful year, everyone! STANLEY, THEY'RE DESPERATE, SO I HEAR
Magoo - We were finished on the 11th. I worked every single day in May but 2, and 7 of 8 days in June!!!
nathalie - bye bev
Sunny - Thanks, Bev! Good night!
BeSeeLisa - Bev-- NICe one-- my sentiments exactly
Magoo - Jenny, where in Minn are you? I used to live in S Dakota
subduck - LAUSD has 3 calendars. Traditional's last day is Thursday, year rounds wrap up next week....
Bluette - good for ou Magoo, what will you do this summer, walmart or McD's?
Sunny - Lisa, what did you think of the post o nthe main board about pre-service teacher?
Stanley - Magoo, 7/21 will be our last day for both Ts & Ss. [A Mon, so go figure, right?]
nathalie - sunny, what board is it on?
Bluette - my best offer for summer work has been weeding the flower garde for my doctor, maybe I can barter for services
nathalie - that would be a deal bluette
Sunny - The main board...waaaayyy down, now!
BeSeeLisa - Oh gosh Sunny-- i didn't reply to that one, 'cos I'm TRYING to be nice, but,,,,,,,,, YEESH
Magoo - Ha to Blu---I am taking this summer 'off' I think. Don't have to go to STL to battle DaddyDearest, apparently am not teaching summer school, so I vow to clean the basement!!!
Sunny - I know, it was evil. I admit, I replied! That is why I don't post on that board as much. I'm always afraid of being flamed.
Magoo - Hey, Blu, we used to do some bartering.....hubs did charcoal portraits of a store owner's kids in exchange for shoes for both our kids.
BeSeeLisa - Sunny-- it's foriegn to me-- I remember being so EARNEST and dedicated as a student
Bluette - oh boy, let us know how that is!! Magoo/cleaning, somehow I don't see those two together
BeSeeLisa - student teacher, that is
Sunny - I am working full time this summer...my other job. But 1 job IS a vacation!
Sunny - Me, too, Lisa...as a sub, too
Magoo - HEY, I CLEAN!!! Well, when the planets are lined up correctly.....
Stanley - subduck, will LAUSD be doing away with its year round schools? Or, was that but a POTENTIAL solution to the budget crisis? Also, in what part(s) of LAUSD do you work?
Bluette - maybe babysit some kiddos fulltime while mommy works???
Sunny - Magoo, the basement? My you are adventurous!
Magoo - After 9 years of subbing, and after The Inquisition last winter, I find that I do not give as much of me as I used to. To subbing, I mean.
subduck - Nope...still too oevercrowded so still plenty of year rounders. I'm in the San Fernando Valley
Sunny - I wouldn't go near a basement! that's scary! LOL
Bluette - duck i lived there in the 50's, was a 3rd grader at Cold Water Canyon School
Magoo - Sunny, I can't get near our basement as it is...........I am very much wanting to Weed Out and Box Things Up, etc.
subduck - Hey, that's one of my school's!
Sunny - I have all these things to clean this summer, and don't know where to start.
Stanley - subduck, there's a Sub by the name of Prentiss [sometimes posts on the SubBoard] who works in the Valley.
Magoo - Jenny, if you answered my ? about Minn I missed it.............
BeSeeLisa - Inquisition Magoo/
Sunny - Today I started w/ the car, LOL
BeSeeLisa - ?
BeSeeLisa - ?
BeSeeLisa - Geesh-- sorry
Bluette - OMG* we went to school in barracks 1/2 days while school was being built
Sunny - The Inquisition was unbelievable!!
Sunny - Magoo tells it best!
BeSeeLisa - Blue-- prepared you for life inthe trenches/
Bluette - Magoo was the first recipient of the Golden Subby, our highest honor!!
Stanley - subduck, since I'm reasonably proficient in Spanish & have probably 1,000 days of experience in barrio schools, I'm looking towards the Huntington Park area.
subduck - Oh, wow! I think they've finished building it!Now there's a bunch of bungalos all over...
BeSeeLisa - MAN-- what is WRONG with my ? key????
BeSeeLisa - I read the Acceptance speech
Sunny - She was....I also received it in the spring, but for different reasons.
Magoo - Blu, I LIVED in barracks for 2 years!! Hubs was in grad school, U of Iowa, and we lived in student housing, which was quanset huts left over from WW2..........a real trip when it hailed on those corrogated tin roofs!!
Sunny - Poor Lisa!LOL
BeSeeLisa -Sunny don't worry it's usual for me :D
Bluette - I wanna Golden Subby too, does it come with a box of hershey's masterpiece chocolates???
Sunny - Well, at least if I post on the main board, I'll have a new ally....BeeSeeLisa!
subduck - The hiring seems to fluctuate here, so don't know what they're doing at the moment. I think with the cutbacks, they're probably holding off to accommodate cut teachers. But eventually you should have no problem. Just have to be patient!
Sunny - No, unfortuately, it doesn't Bluette
BeSeeLisa - OF COURSE you will Sunny-- I am the Queen of the Elves, apparently
Magoo - I was truly honored to be the first to receive the Golden Subby Award.
Sunny - I saw that..what a nice post!
Bluette - you deserved it after what you did
Sunny - You rock, Magoo!
BeSeeLisa - LOL magoo-- I liked that one
Magoo - BCLisa, are you in Br. Columbia, Canada??
Bluette - I have bronchitis and laryngitis again
Sunny - I post under SunnySub on the mian board, BTW
BeSeeLisa - YOU bet Magoo-- remember-- i asked you to comeup and work for me-- and I would make you lemon pie?
Bluette - and I must shower and go to bed, its 10 pm east coast time
Sunny - Well, I'm going to go. It was nice chatting with you all! Enjoy the summer!
BeSeeLisa - I will look for you SunnySub
Magoo - You know, the BWS was speaking to me the last couple of days of school.....I was SO relieved (**barfing**).....I had lost SO much sleep over that (snickering)...
Stanley - Magoo, speaking of hail, I remember being in a modular classroom several years ago when in suddenly hailed. The kids [G-3s?] went **NUTS**!!
BeSeeLisa - (((((((((((((((BLUE Blue blue))))))))) take care
Sunny - Night all!!
BeSeeLisa - **decoding BWS**
Magoo - I would crawl over broken glass to BC for homemade lemon pie............
nathalie - bye bluette, take care
BeSeeLisa - **BWS= Big White Shark?
BeSeeLisa - See you Sunny!! Nice to meet yoU!!
Bluette - you are all my bestest buds...remember a sub is also a HERO! goodnight all xxxxxxxxxx
Sunny - Same here, Lisa!
Stanley - Blue, **DO** take care of yourself!![]()
BeSeeLisa - Magoo- if you read my eclectic cafe you know I am a BIG fan of food
Magoo - "BWS"= /Witch/Snitch......a term used interchangably between the 3 who tried to drown this ol' sub last March.
Bluette - see you next meeting of subs anonymous, my name is Bleu and I am a sub*
Magoo - Oh, guess I can't say ' '............hmmm, well it rhymes with 'snitch' and starts with a B........how's that??
subduck - SUPER hero! g'night blue
BeSeeLisa - OOOOOOOO subs as a recipe
nathalie - magoo, let me at them, i take them all on
BeSeeLisa - !I GOTCHA magoo!!
BeSeeLisa - LOL Nath-- me too
Magoo - I must go also. I am trying to motivate myself to make potato salad yet tonight, for lunch tomorrow with 2 friends.
BeSeeLisa - Okay (((((((((((((((Heroes and Heroines)))))))))))))) I mujst depart
BeSeeLisa - let's go Magoo
BeSeeLisa -
Magoo - Using daughter's recipe.....very easy, very tasty.........
Stanley - subduck, I had references from LAUSD for '02/'03 but didn't interview because I wasn't ready for the move. [I've about 50 yrs living here in San Diego.] Then, the budgetary issues "spooked" me for '03/'04.
Magoo - ***linking arms with BCLisa and doing high kicks out the door***
Magoo - ***being dragged out the door by BCLisa, who left first, apparently***
subduck - Are you looking for a full time position, Stanley, or just want to continue subbing?
Magoo - AAIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE............
subduck - Bye, Magoo....g'luck with the p. salad!
Stanley - Magoo, take care of yourself, ya' hear?
subduck - Well, I should head off too....nice chatting with you Stanley. G'luck!
Stanley - subduck, I'd **ONLY** go to LAUSD with a contract in hand -- & the approx 57K/yr THAT would mean for me.
subduck - Ah, very good! Best of luck to ya!
subduck - g'night...
Stanley - {{{ Poof !! }}}
