AndyHS/CA - Tech conference starts .....NOW!
Bob R/CA - Hi Andy! Thanks guys for your work here :o)
AndyHS/CA - Bob - Any news on the legislation to decrease E-rate funding?
Goose/6-8/sci/Tx - Howdy all! I managed to make it this time!
-{:o)Mary - Anyone have any questions?
-{:o)Mary - Why didn't anyone answer my cable modem question on the tech board?
AndyHS/CA - Mary, I don't know the answer. We've just advanced beyond dixie cups and string.
-{:o)Mary - Shawn, sorry, we're just getting started, got any tech questions?
AndyHS/CA - Shawn, if you have a technology question, we'll do our best to answer...fire away.
JulieC/8/IL - Are there any specific topics you are going to address tonight??
Goose/6-8/sci/Tx - Mary, I once saw a guy named Cable Hogan on an old western, but I don't know anything about a Cable Modem.....
Donna/NE - I do, how do you e-mail scanned things, like pictures to someone that does not have a scanner to view them?
Kathleen - OK, It's 9 pm EDT, let's fire away with questions!
-{:o)Mary - Donna, they don't need a scanner to view them
Donna/NE - I have a hp 5
AndyHS/CA - Donna, you save it as a gif or jpeg... they can view it with their web browser.
-{:o)Mary - Donna, is that what you meant?
Donna/NE - Do i put them on a disk?
Kathleen - Hi, JB< do you have a computer or tech question for Goose?
Donna/NE - yes, and that is all
JB - Once you have a web page on the net how do you make changes or add pages to it?
Goose/6-8/sci/Tx - Donna, after you save the pic as a gif or jpeg file, you can attach it to an email so that you can send it via email, and the person on the other end can view it.
Donna/NE - then, do I add that as an attachment
-{:o)Mary - Donna, you can, but you don't have to, you can put them on your Hard Drive - you just DO have to know where you put them
AndyHS/CA - Donna, you can save them to your hard drive or a floppy...but the floppy would have to be in the drive when you attach and send the email.
Donna/NE - as attachment, not file?
Kathleen - Who will take JB's question about the web page?
n2kids - I'm going to have quite a bit of technology money this year. What are the must haves for 5-6 grades. We have a scanner and a digital camera. I'm ordering Microsoft Office for mulimedia presentations.
-{:o)Mary - JB, just edit and then publish the changes, you send them to the server the same way you did in the beginning
AndyHS/CA - JB, You can make changes on a COPY on your hard drive and then upload the changed page. As long as you don't change the name of the html document, it will write over the old one.
JB - Sounds easy enough. Thanks
Kathleen - Goose, how about n2kids queston?
-{:o)Mary - Donna, you attach the file
Donna/NE - Thanks, now to see if it will work!!
Goose/6-8/sci/Tx - Kathleen....just got back....I had to get some medicine.....what was the question?
AndyHS/CA - Goose...beer is NOT medicine!
Kathleen - n2 has $$$ for 5-6, what should they buy for the classroom..have scanner and digital camera
JB - What would you consider the ideal computer set up in a classroom?
-{:o)Mary - Power Point is for presentations
AndyHS/CA - n2Kids, I'd make sure I have some fun graphics software so the kids can do their own pictures and digital art.
Goose/6-8/sci/Tx - n2....what are you wanting to do with the technology?? Make a web page for your class possibly??
-{:o)Mary - n2, do you have power point?
n2kids - Andy, any suggestions for software?
Marva/Texas/3rd - Andy which graphic program do you use for the fun stuff for kids?
n2kids - Yes Mary, we have powerpoint.
JulieC/8/IL - Andy...What do you suggest for the fun graphics software...?
missy - do all of you use the internet in some lessons plans?
Marva/Texas/3rd - nudge julieC
-{:o)Mary - n2, that can make very good presentations
JulieC/8/IL - I use the internet constantly in lessons!
AndyHS/CA - n2, I don't work with that age group, but PaintShop Pro is affordable on a site license basis.
Goose/6-8/sci/Tx - Andy: I wish....it was Advil
Sandy/K/Mo - I use the internet all the time in my lessons
Pogo/Puter/MS - I teach in MS in a Mac Lab. In the past we have been using ClarisWorks. This year I am switching to Microsoft Word.
JulieC/8/IL - I downloaded PaintShop Pro off the net...
-{:o)Mary - Sandy, do you have any advice?
JB - JulieC, can you give us an example of some of your lessons?
n2kids - Goose, I want the kids to be able to do fun things. My school has at risk kids who have done very little with computers.
Marva/Texas/3rd - How long a time do you plan for students to be on the computer? Last year I did about 45 minutes for a group of 2. What do you think?
AndyHS/CA - Julie, how did you like PaintShop?
Kathleen - Julie, tell us how you loaded paint shop pro [free?] over the net
n2kids - What is paintshop pro?
JulieC/8/IL - I like it fine, though I am not an expert. I am a world-champion downloader...my students learn the programs and then teach others!
-{:o)Mary - Marva, if the kids like it, then it must be OK
missy - I just am finishing class in internet for lesson plans. It is not the fastest going thing here
Goose/6-8/sci/Tx - Missy....I've found some very interesting activities on the internet which I use in my class room.
AndyHS/CA - Kathleen, go to www.jasc.com and you'll find the 30 day demo, free.
Pogo/Puter/MS - I like PaintShop Pro too.
Sandy/K/Mo - missy where are you and do you want interactive sites?
Kathleen - Andy, after 30 days do techers have to pay?
Marva/Texas/3rd - Mary: well the kids liked it fine. I didn't do such a good job with the kids who weren't on the computer though.
-{:o)Mary - Have we missed any questions?
JulieC/8/IL - Kathleen and others.....I went to a shareware site (I'll have to get back with you on the address..wil post on chatboard..) that has TONS of freeware available to download. One of my students told me about it!
AndyHS/CA - n2kids, PaintShop Pro is the less expensive relative of Adobe Photoshop, the heavyweight champ of image editing.
n2kids - What is Paintshop Pro?
Kathleen - Mary, haven't missed any yet
AndyHS/CA - Kathleen, yes, everyone has to pay.
-{:o)Mary - Marva, so your problem is what to have the others do while not on the net?
JulieC/8/IL - Andy...we just keep downloading the promo...I've never paid! (Is that illegal? Gulp!)
Jill - I use adobe for editing... works really well for images and graphics
Kathleen - Julie, Andy seemed to be saying that it is free only for the first 30 days??
Pogo/Puter/MS - If anyone hears of those that would like to get their classes together next year and chat in Netmeeting, we would love to talk with them.
n2kids - thanks andy.
-{:o)Mary - n2, it's a graphics program
missy - No, Sandy, I have plenty of sites to keep supplied for awhile
Marva/Texas/3rd - Mary well yes, only we don't have internet yet... my kids do HyperStudio and ClarisWorks and Ed Software stuff.
AndyHS/CA - I can't remember the name of the program, but there is a very cheap and well done shareware art program for the Macintosh.
n2kids - thanks mary!
Sandy/K/Mo - then want to share with me?? post some please
n2kids - What is hyperstudio? Is it better than Powerpoint?
AndyHS/CA - Julie, not as far as I know - you'd have to read the license.
Kathleen back - Pogo, did you post that on the chatboard (netmeeting)?
AndyHS/CA - n2kids - Powerpoint and Hyperstudio are pretty much the same thing.
Goose/sci/TX - PogoPuter...last year, Lynne from Florida and my class visited several times on a teachers' chatroom.....she supervised her end, and I supervised mine. The kids really enjoyed it.
JB - My kids enjoy hyperstudio more than powerpoint
Pogo/Puter/MS - Yes, K'leen
Marva/Texas/3rd - N2kids: I don't know much about Powerpoint. I think HyperStudio is great presentation software for k-12. It's very versatile.
-{:o)Mary - Marva, oh, sorry about the assumption, do you need ideas of what to do with the kids who aren't on the puters?
Kathleen back - Pogo, call me kat, it's easier to type :-)
Marva/Texas/3rd - Mary: yes.
Pogo/Puter/MS - There is a thought Goose. I am planning on using Microphones and speaking via Netmeeting.
missy - I might know some ms teachers who would join you, Pogo
Goose/sci/TX - Pogo...I believe the Hyper Studio is Mac's version of Power Point.
-{:o)Mary - Marva, do you want it to be computer related?
Kathleen back - Goose and Pogo, maybe we could schedule something like that for this room..remind me and I'll talk about it with Bob
Marva/Texas/3rd - HyperStudio is available for IBM as well
Pogo/Puter/MS - That sounds great Missy. Where are you from?
Pogo/Puter/MS - Sure Kat
-{:o)Mary - Claris Works has a good slide show componant - makes nice presentations
JB - No Hyperstudio is a multimedia program there are mac & win versions, as there are for powerpoint
Kathleen back - Oh, Netmeeting has sound?
Marva/Texas/3rd - Mary, no. I guess I need to just work up some interesting centers.
AndyHS/CA - You can buy Hyperstudio for PC, and Powerpoint for Mac if you want
Pogo/Puter/MS - That wasn't me Goose.
Goose/sci/TX - Kat...that would enable many schools to communicate.....great idea!
n2kids - What is the best kind of LCD projector?
Pogo/Puter/MS - Yes, you speak through a microphone.
Goose/sci/TX - Pogo....sorry 'bout that!
Sandy/K/Mo - why is it sometimes I can get a picture on my post and other times just a square?
-{:o)Mary - HyperStudio is like an easy version of Hyper Card
Marva/Texas/3rd - I have another question! How do you start your kids out at the first of the year... my kids will not have any classroom experience with computers.
AndyHS/CA - n2kids - You might consider buying tv's that double as VGA monitors. The resolution is better than LCD's
Kathleen back - Sandy, do you mean copying an image to a chtboard post?
Sandy/K/Mo - I teach my kinders the parts of computer, proper way to treat it and then start with paint to get them use to themouse
Goose/sci/TX - Marva....fortunately when I get the kids, they've all been taught the basics of computers
Sandy/K/Mo - yes sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't
JulieC/8/IL - Andy...That's what my school has...and I use a remote mouse to control the screen...Cool!
Marva/Texas/3rd - Last year I started them with a Broderbund game called "Zoombinis" and also they typed their spelling words in claris works and then use the graphics tools to put boxes around "big words inside the little words" etc.
Tony B/CA - n2kids - forget the LCD projectors - go for the video projection systems - Proxima 5800 is a great model - a bit pricey though, about 6 grand. Is it for a school?
-{:o)Mary - Marva, it shouldn't be too hard, I had kindergarten kids doing things on computers without a lot of fuss - do you have a lab? It's nice if you can instruct them all at once
Kathleen back - Andy, can you take Sandy's question,.sometimes when coping an image to the chatboard post she gets an empty square
Marva/Texas/3rd - Goose, grin. Our district is just starting out. I am the first teacher at my school to even have computers. But I'm working on my second full year.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Mary: yes we have a lab, but at the first of the year it's pretty much dedicated to type to learn (bleh)
-{:o)Mary - Sandy, the image's location URL MUST be correct
AndyHS/CA - Sandy, the empty square means that the browser can't find the image, you put in the wrong link.
Tony B/CA - VPS systems are nice in that you can run VCR, computer, video disc, and TV signals directly through it. They also work great in the cafeteria on rainy days as a mini movie theater - educational, of course ;)
n2kids - Andy, we already have tv's in most classrooms. Do I need to buy tvs just for presentations?
Marva/Texas/3rd - Mary, do you have charts or anything to give students directions? Like...how to open claris works and add the graphics tools?
Tony B/CA - Zoombinis is great Marva! I enjoy it myself ;)
Goose/sci/TX - Whoever was intersted in using the computers in the classroom, we have exchanged weather data with a group of about 10 schools for the last couple of years. I usually let the kids take turns sending the weather. We would gladly add you to the group.
Sandy/K/Mo - It is from my web page and I think I type it the same everytime.. maybe I don't
Marva/Texas/3rd - n2kids: you can use regular tvs but the image is pretty cruddy
missy - marva, I know a MS that has only one computer with internet access.
JulieC/8/IL - I'm interested in that, Goose, if you have room for another school!
Marva/Texas/3rd - Goose, was it just an email?
AndyHS/CA - n2Kids - The regular TV won't cut it as a monitor. The VGA TV/Monitor runs about $200 more than its TV equivalent. But is can be used for regular tv and video as well.
Kathleen back - Goose, how to connect with your weather project?
Marva/Texas/3rd - missy, that sounds like my school.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Andy, I think I'm going to ask for that kind of television!
missy - Goose, that was me. I bet our earth science guy would like that. We have a weather station in his room.
Goose/sci/TX - Marva....yes. I had a group of addresses called "weather." Every day we would send the weather to the group and they would send their weather. We would gladly add others. I'll post it on the chatboard.
Gumbo/K/La - missy-----only computer with internet access ---in library, which is used all day for library classes.........
n2kids - Goose, add us too.
Sandy/K/Mo - we have one computer with internet in the lab
-{:o)Mary - Marva, I don't use chart, Kinder Kids wouldn't know how to read them in the beginning of the school year, I do a lot of oral repetitions of steps to be taken
Marva/Texas/3rd - Goose, well I have a scheme to get internet in my classroom.... a really long phone cord.. heh. But I'm not sure I'll have it yet.
n2kids - We only have internet access in the library. Drop boxes were installed so hopefully when school starts we'll be ready!
Goose/sci/TX - Whoever is interested in being on the list, send email to huntcd@infinitytx.net and I'll get it. We won't be starting school again until early August.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Mary: okay. I didn't have any type of charts last year, but I was wondering if anyone used that sort of thing.
Sandy/K/Mo - my kinders don't have charts.. just a lot of pointing and indiv. attention on my part
Goose/sci/TX - Marva....sounds like a great idea!
Marva/Texas/3rd - Sandy, Mary, do your kids mostly use sotfware? or doyou use claris and hyperstudio applications?
n2kids - We are wired so that we can have our own broadcast show. What else can we do with that capability?
-{:o)Mary - Marva, have you looked into writing a grant for getting on the net? There are many foundations who can help if you are willing to put in the time to write a grant
AndyHS/CA - Marva, it makes sense if you're going to get a tv to get one that can be used as many ways as possible. Definitely worth the extra $$$
missy - so how do you handle the one computer access ordeal?
Goose/sci/TX - Marva, are you referring to the charts in Excel or something like it?
Sandy/K/Mo - my kids use paint, word, the reading journey and magic school bus
Sandy/K/Mo - living books too
Bob R/CA - Mary, how would you recommend to a teacher they go about getting a grant?
Marva/Texas/3rd - Mary our district already wrote the grant! It's just going to take us another year (my school) because it's so far out.
-{:o)Mary - This year we did mostly programs, but next year it will be Claris in the lab all the time
Sandy/K/Mo - They even learned to make wallpaper ... they thought they were cool :-)
Kathleen back - Bob, Mary has agreed to do a cht session on grant writing, right Mary? Mary?
Marva/Texas/3rd - Goose, no >blush< Just charts like "directions" for the kids to follow.
Bob R/CA - Great idea :o)
Tony B/CA - how about a daily news program to broadcast each morning to all of the classrooms? Students can interview teachers, student leaders, administrators, sports teams, etc...
Sandy/K/Mo - Mary that would be awesome :-)
Marva/Texas/3rd - Sandy that is cool for kindergarteners. I am going "model" technology integration to the rest of the school next year. Don't know quite what to say to the k-1 teachers.
Tony B/CA - That's great Mary! I'll attend for sure.
Goose/sci/TX - Marva....oh....I understand now.
Sandy/K/Mo - tell them to jump in the water is great :-)
-{:o)Mary - I posted a source about how to get started on the Main Board, I'll post some more info, there, it's not easy, but there are tips that I can give - Folks can look on the ChatBoard, I'll make some more info available
Sandy/K/Mo - bragging... they were written up in the paper
Linda/MS/WV - Sandy, we LOVE the Interactive Journeys for our K-1 kids!
Tony B/CA - who does that software Linda?
Sandy/K/Mo - the interactives are great.. have several internet sites... one kinder is always on the net
Linda/MS/WV - Reader Rabbit Interactive Journey --Learning company
Marva/Texas/3rd - Do you guys do a lot of "lessons" with your software programs (Like Interactive Journey) or do you just let them play/learn
Sandy/K/Mo - A great growing program RR
Tony B/CA - Thanks Linda - we'll try to get that into our Catalog Center as soon as possible.
Linda/MS/WV - Interactive Journey is a progressive program --
Aussie - Kat, my class are really keen to get their own web page running.i'm just not sure where to start
n2kids - How do you ease teachers into using computers. They all have one in their classroom
Kathleen back - Are all online computers capable of using microphone communication?
Tony B/CA - Sandy, does your school use any filtering software?
Kathleen back - missy, it usually takes a few days..
Hazel/FL - We used some of our tech grant money to train teachers at their level
AndyHS/CA - n2kids, I do afterschool, come as you are, voluntary training. I vary the topics, have SNACKS, and they come and learn.
Linda/MS/WV - Do any of you have a Users Policy in place for the Internet? I need to write one for this coming year for our school. any help?
Marva/Texas/3rd - n2kids: our district is doing this peer coaching model: the teachers come into my classroom and see how things go. Then we reflect and discuss what they saw. We use the ACOT model.
Sandy/K/Mo - I am the filtering ... so far my kinders are the only one that use internet the most
n2kids - When my kids learn powerpoint, I want to do a presentation for the board members. Maybe on how to run a school district.
Hazel/FL - They also got some free time to explore the programs in the library after school.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Linda, I think Our User policy is on the net somehwere. I will try to find it and post it, okay?
Sandy/K/Mo - yes we have a release that the parents and student sign
Hazel/FL - You people with Internet are sooooo lucky.
AndyHS/CA - Linda, we have a very developed District Users policy (teacher and student) I would be happy to email one to you later.
Linda/MS/WV - What grades are using power point, n2kids?
Ratman - Andy...you still have a killer web page, and I'm still getting ideas from it. If you have time, let me know what you think of the changes!
-{:o)Mary - n2, sounds like a very good idea, -- Kinder kids can do anything!
Tony B/CA - I see... but no NetNanny or SurfWatch art or any of that?
Sandy/K/Mo - Hazel I can't wait to get it in my room.. use i all the time
Linda/MS/WV - Thanks, Andy -- whitmanl@citynet.net
Ratman - I can't believe I'm talking with the famous Goose!
AndyHS/CA - Hey Ratman, how are things in Clovis!?
Kathleen back - Mary, would you advise Aussie on how to get started, his students wish to do a web page
Kim/KS/8th - Hello all! Linda, my district has a Users Policy. I'll look to see if I have a copy. I just brought home all of my files from school so I could sort through them, so I MIGHT find it.
Marva/Texas/3rd - OKay, sorry if I missed the answers: Do you guys do lessons with your software (Like Interactive Journey) or do you jsut let the kids play/learn
Hazel/FL - This was the first year at our school that everyone's classroom had at least one computer.
Sandy/K/Mo - we did have nanny but I think they took it off
n2kids - I've only had my computer a short time. When I click on an email address, it won't open it. It says something about I can't send an attach. but I'm not trying to.
Aussie - I've seen some of your web pages guys. They are so good I think thats whats putting me off getting started on my own.Good acts are hard to follow
-{:o)Mary - I'm getting very dicoursged with Bess, our filtering proxy, they won't let Teachers.Net through!
Goose-2 - Ratman.....I'm not sure it that's good or not!.
n2kids - Oh, I have internet explorer.
Gumbo/K/La - hazel-----same here about computer in each class........
Aussie - Kat, I'm female but I wont hold your gender bias against you LOL
Ratman - Andy...busy as ever...Next year I'm getting 7 laptops in my class, and one for me, (PC)...I'm a mac man myself, but I'm taking tech workshops this summer.
Tony B/CA - Interesting Sandy - I wonder how other schools are handling the access issue in terms of content screening....
Linda/MS/WV - You've got that right, Aussie! I was just given an inservice on Frontpage --but am still timid...
Kathleen back - Aussie, don't be intimidated..let your kids build it from scratch, not to create a masterpiece, but for the learning experience
Sandy/K/Mo - see I think that was what was happening with Nanny not letting anything through
Gumbo/K/La - there's some secruty thing on the ONE internet computer, but I don;t know what it is........
Marva/Texas/3rd - Ratman, just wait.. once you go IBM.. you're hooked!
AndyHS/CA - Aussie, we all start out walking before we can run. You should have seen my first web page!
Linda/MS/WV - Ratman --HOW did you get money for 8 laptops????
Sandy/K/Mo - we have to stand by the computer and know where the stop button is. I know That is why so many of the "older" kid teachers don't use
AndyHS/CA - Tony - My district is going to proxy filtering also. Of course, we don't have internet access at my HS so the point is moot.
Goose-2 - Aussie....you can download a copy of the html codes and your kids can build a nice web page without an editor. I've built several and don't even know how to use the editors.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Aussie: I used Microsoft Word in Microsoft Office. It was pretty easy to compose.
Tony B/CA - Mary, Bess won't let Teachers.Net through? Now that is just absurd. I'll get on that and contact the company. But that isn't atypical. We don't come through on a few for some reason.
Aussie - Linda we have a program here where every teacher can lease a laptop for $3 a week, tax deductible
Kathleen back - Tony, I think it's because of "chat"board
Marva/Texas/3rd - Sandy, yeah I'm kind of concerned about that myself.
Hazel/FL - Aussie, is that through the generosity of some company?
Tony B/CA - Ah, perhaps the name needs changing. We'll have to roundtable this one, Kat.
Linda/MS/WV - Geessh! that's a super deal! Hey, Goose! why the 2?
Kathleen back - Aussie, that's an incredible program (laptop $3)
-{:o)Mary - Tony, it's the word chat in the addresses and they don't like Chatrooms at all, I've been fighting it out with them, it would help if you would give them what for also!
Marva/Texas/3rd - Mary/Sandy/Andy: do you use your software programs (like interactive journey) for lessons? Or do youjust allow students to play/learn?
Sandy/K/Mo - don't blame you but if you research the site before hand and know where the links go you should be ok
Kathleen back - Tony, I think Bob is mulling it
n2kids - What about my computer not opening email addresses?
Aussie - We have a school web page built with front page.We want our own though. Is it easy to make changes once you have started? Do you need to know how many link pages you will have before you start?
Kathy/5/IA - Hi, I've got a few little questions. I'm teaching a computer class in a few weeks - to ten teachers at my school. Let me know when I can jump in with the questions - I don't want to interrupt the conversation. :0)
Tony B/CA - Aussie, that's awesome! How does that work? How many teachers take advantage of that? Who is it available to?
AndyHS/CA - Marva, I have no classroom computers.
Aussie - Its a governmaent tech initiative funded by a computer company
Tony B/CA - Mary, you betcha. I will!
AndyHS/CA - n2kids - I don't think I understand the problem. What email program are you using?
Linda/SD - The entire staff at my school attended a TNT conference last week--it was really informative.
Tony B/CA - Well Andy, at least filtering planning is going on before students access the Web. That shows thoughtful administration of the integration process...
Aussie - Its available next semester to all government teachers. At the end of the lease period you can buy or just take out a lease on a new model
-{:o)Mary - Tony, Bess is wildly used up here in NW PA, but because of it, nobody can get to Teachers.Net!
n2kids - Andy, it's Eudora.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Sandy, did you see my question?
Goose-2 - AUTZEN....Stinnett, a small town about 50 miles north of Amarillo.
AUTZEN - Does anyone use Sammy's Science for K level lessons?
Sandy/K/Mo - no sorry what was it
Linda/MS/WV - Does anyone use Cyber Patrol? that's what our county sent us.....
Linda/SD - Does anyone know anything about G3's or IMac's? Are they good to work with...
Kathy/5/IA - OK...question number 1 (these are from another teacher) She wants to know how to take clip art (or pictures) found on the internet and add them to a work processing document, and save them so she doesn't have to be on the internet to use them.
Michelle - Hello all, I'm trying to read what's going on with a 2yo and a 4yo hangin on my leg wanting to do a "progam".
Gumbo/K/La - Cyber Patrol--------that's the one on ours......
AndyHS/CA - n2kids - double clicking on the email in eudora should open a "new Message" window. Is that what is happening?
Goose/sci/TX - Is G3 a Gateway computer?? If so, I have a G6 and love it!
AUTZEN - Please share ur secret of how you manage ea child going to Computer Center-
Hazel/FL - I just bought Cyber Patrol for my home computer, is it any good?
Marva/Texas/3rd - Kathy: right click (is this IBM??) and save the picture to a file, then insert the picture into her document.
Linda/MS/WV - Gumbo --do you like it?
n2kids - What would be a good laptop for me to use at my principal meetings and conferences?
brooks - I would love to know of any SS teachers I could converse with about possible jobs.
fritz - My Navigator won't save addresses in the address book, even though I have followed technicians procedures. any ideas?
Linda/SD - No--I don't believe the G3 is from Gateway...
Hazel/FL - G3 is the new MacIntosh isn't it?
Sandy/K/Mo - I have my classromm computers set up as a center
Marva/Texas/3rd - How much was Cyber Patrol?
Tony B/CA - Linda, G3's are Mac's newest computer. They are lightning! Very nice indeed!
Kim/KS/8th - This year we had ONE computer in our building that was set up for the internet. Only teachers were allowed to use it, so when we did research, one of us had to sit down with the students and use our own passwords. It was a nightmare. Very few students got the privilege.
Bob R/CA - fritz, a fresh install of netscape might do it, but make sure you back up your bookmarks first
Goose/sci/TX - Tony....does the G3 refer to 300mhz??
Sandy/K/Mo - we have 16 pc's in the lab
Tony B/CA - n2kids - what is your budget? Are you IBM or Mac friendliest?
Kathy/5/IA - Thanks Marva...now, since the lab I'm using is a mac lab (yet most teachers have IBM) whats the difference - instead of the right click.
Gumbo/K/La - Linda---don't know about cyberpatrol---have never gotten on that computer........not instructed on password, etc. yet......
Kathleen back - andy, any suggestions for a good laptop for n2 s principals meetings?
fritz - tried that bob
Linda/SD - Thanks Tony--I guess our school is getting G3's for the labs and IMacs for our classroom.
Marva/Texas/3rd - SANDY:but do you have the kids do lessons with the software (like interactive journey) or do you just let them play/learn
AUTZEN - I have tried to put 2 kindergarteners on 11 computer but it is crowded.
brooks - Can anyone tell me of a downloadable program to help in creating a web page?
AndyHS/CA - n2kids - You could pick up a CHEAP pentium laptop to do your conferencing. Make sure you get 32 megs ram, though
Aussie - Wow I am starting to think we are pretty well off down under,.we just got connected to Vic1 which provides us with free internet use in every classroom
Marva/Texas/3rd - Kathy, I think you just drag the picture from the web page to the file you want to put it in. But "m not sure. :-(
Sandy/K/Mo - Autzen.. it is hard for them to share..
-{:o)Mary - brooks, just use netscape - it's free
AndyHS/CA - Brooks - HTML builder is freeware.
Bob R/CA - fritz, did you check the Netscape sight for FAQs for your version of netscape? They often have bug fixes there.
Goose/sci/TX - fritz....Did you click on Communicator and on the address book, and still nothing??
Tess - Aussie...how do your kids work on the net?
Linda/MS/WV - Marva, Interactive Journey is a progressive program...students work individually and progress sequentially on their own.
Kathleen back - Aussie, you ARE well off!
brooks - But I hate to use the language I would rather have a template to make my web page.
AUTZEN - Kids or Techs?
Kathy/5/IA - I'm going to the lab I will use on Monday, I'll try that Marva!
Marva/Texas/3rd - Linda did you keep check on their progess at all?
Sandy/K/Mo - the kids.. :-)
Tony B/CA - Here's the gig on the G3 - the processor is and improved on any former processors(Mac or IBM). Often, when you hear a computer is 233MHz, that refers to the fastest speed attained within the chip. Transfer over the motherboard is much lower (typically 3
-{:o)Mary - Copying clip art - who is asking? What OS - MAC or PC?
Bob R/CA - brooks, you want to use a WYSIWYG editor, or were you ready for text editing? Text editors are a bit more complex, but if you learn that way you can do a lot more with HTML.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Kathy, please see if there are any mac people here to check that.
Sandy/K/Mo - I had computer lab 5 days a week for 30 min. each time.. and then the two in my room
Kathy/5/IA - Me Mary...
Linda/SD - Tony--do you know anything about IMacs?
Tess - Linda, do your kids like Enteractive Journey?
Sandy/K/Mo - microsoft office has a templet
Kim/KS/8th - This year each classroom is to have one computer with internet access. I'm not sure how to use it with my students. I have 25-30 students for 80 minutes each day. I also have a tremendous amount of curriculum to cover.
Linda/MS/WV - Yes, it is very easy to do that --when they log on you can see where they are..it will not allow them to go ahead until they have made 80% at least on the lesson.
Michelle - does anyone know of a great gradebook program? I bought "Teacher's aide" but didn't like it. I don't have Microsoft Works at school, only at home and it won't load there.
Kathy/5/IA - I'd like to know both - PC and Mac
AUTZEN - If Win95?PC, just right click and "SAVE IMAGE"
Goose/sci/TX - AUTZEN...what part of Texas are you from??
Aussie - Tess, I have two internet computers in my class. They use the internet for daily email and conversations with keypal teachers .They are able to research projects etc on their own,, we have a timetable for this and they spend about 20 mins each day at the computer
n2kids - What do I have to do so that I can hear sounds?
Tony B/CA - But the G3 speed is pure throughout the system. That means, a 233 MHz G3 is on average about 60% faster than an IBM 233 MHz, or non G3 Mac 233 ... G3 is a great thing for Mac lovers.
Linda/MS/WV - Michelle, our teachers use Making the Grade and seem to like it.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Linda oh okay. I have lots of software, but I didn't use it for lessons.
Kathy/5/IA - I'm a PC and most of the teachers I will train are PC, but the lab we are using is a Mac lab.
AUTZEN - Any K teachers recommend a Lesson Plan Software for 1/2 day programs?
Sandy/K/Mo - Kim.. do they have study times? set them up with research
Linda/MS/WV - Aussie --what grade do you teach?
Marva/Texas/3rd - I have 4 desktops and a laptop for my classroom. No internet till July 99
AndyHS/CA - n2kids - you need a sound card and speakers on a PC. All macs have that stuff built in.
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, on a PC, right clip on the picture you want to use, then select save image as - and save it to a folder on your hard drive or a loppy
Tony B/CA - I got cut off there, but serves me right for writing a novel. I think I got the point across..
Kathleen back - Michelle is looking for suggesstions for a good grade book program. doesn't like "teachers aide," doesn't have Micorsoft Wroks at school
Michelle - Linda: I haven't seen Making hte Grade for sale, where did they get it, or do you know?
Bob R/CA - Michelle, you might ask for recommendations on the software chatboard - http://teachers.net/mentors/software
fritz - Autzen, i just use claris works spreadsheet to make my own
brooks - One more question, I just purchased Print Master Platinum, I am trying to make a portfolio. Is this a good software program or is there something better?
Sandy/K/Mo - smiling.. didn't know about lesson plan programs
Tess - Aussie...how do you keep them from the "bad" stuff?
n2kids - I have speakers. What are sound cards. Is that something I have to buy?
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, for a Mac, click and hold to get a pop up menu from which you can select the save feature
Bob R/CA - autzen, you might get some good answers from our EC Chatboard at http://teachers.net/mentors/early_childhood
Bob R/CA - or the software chatboard http://teachers.net/mentors/software
n2kids - Brooks , are the portfolios for the students?
Kathy/5/IA - So I can save a picture in a file and then it will be there whenever it is needed?
AndyHS/CA - Brooks - Many freeware Html editors here http://www.webattack.com/freeware/webpublish/fweditors.html
Tony B/CA - not familiar with it brooks... sorry
Goose-2 - n2kids....If your puter doesn't have a sound card, you can buy one and put it in yourself.
Kathy/5/IA - Do I just copy and paste it then?
Aussie - Tess as yet I bookmark sites for them and they do their research from them. When they want to use a search engine I stay with them.
Sandy/K/Mo - Tess.. you have to monitor them..and check out the site before hand
Linda/MS/WV - I think you can find it in most software catalogs --not sure which one we bought it from.
Kim/KS/8th - Study time? I don't even have enough teaching time. We have several assessments at the district level, some for QPA, and some for the state. It seems all I do is TEST! Also, research covers several of my benchmarks, so I usually do this in conjunction with the civics teacher to cover some of his benchmarks as well. We only have time for one research project.
AndyHS/CA - n2 - If you have speakers, you have a sound card. Just turn those speakers on.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Kathy: ANY PICTURE IS YOURS! That was the coolest thing I learned last year! Yes it will be on your computer once you save it.
Aussie - Marvea my problem is I can never remeber where I have saved them
AndyHS/CA - Brooks - go here for several freeware HTML editors http://www.webattack.com/freeware/webpublish/fweditors.html
Linda/MS/WV - Anyone have internet lessons for 2-6 that they really liked?
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, pictures on the net will not copy, you have to save them first, and then you can insert them into any document
n2kids - Andy, the speakers are on. A message comes up that says something is being used and I need to wait until its finished. I know, sounds complicated.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Aussie: grin. I always put them on my desktop so I can SEE it. then I move it to another file later.
Sea/2 - may I ask a question about MSN...it keeps popping up on my "search" screen and has all these errors...how can I get rid of it and back to my old search engine list?
Kim/KS/8th - Well, I was just informed by my five-year old that it is HER TURN at the computer. I'll check for this session in the archives. Goodnight.
Kathy/5/IA - OK..Question #2. Is organizing "favorites" on explorer the same as book marks on netscape. (Like making a folder and dragging files to the folder)
Sandy/K/Mo - Aussie.. set up a special file for them
Tony B/CA - yes Kathy
Tess - Mary...where are the pictures if I want to use them with a word proc. prog?
fritz - Can you really find archives of a chat session?
Sea/2 - i think i visited someone's homepage and sucked in the MSN thing...
AndyHS/CA - n2 - sounds like a problem I can't help with unless I have my hands on the offending computer - sorry!
Kathleen back - Sea is bothered by MSN search popping up...
Marva/Texas/3rd - Tess:ANY PICTURE. You see a picture you like on the net... YOU GRAB IT. It's an incredible rush.
Kathleen back - fritz, we save many in our archive, click on "archive" in the left frame
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, the idea is the same
Kathy/5/IA - To make a new file on my PC I right click...on the mac I just hold the mouse down and a window will pop up...is that right?
fritz - are there archives of a chat session?
Tess - Lol..Marva!
AndyHS/CA - Sea - are you using the MSN as your service provider?
Kathleen back - How can sea get rid of the MSN thingy that has attached itself to her?
Sea/2 - kathleen, i sort of "borrowed" from MSN originally...when I was setting up...
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, yes - I think - try it and see
Bob R/CA - fritz, we archive the group meetings
Kathleen back - fritz, yes, click on "archive" over in the left frame
Marva/Texas/3rd - Kathy, are you talking about bookmark files? Or regular files?
Sea/2 - hi andy, i think part of it...Internet Explorer
n2kids - Thanks anyway, Andy. I'm going to get someone to look at it.
Kathy/5/IA - I'm going to the mac lab monday...I'll try it!
Kathy/5/IA - Book mark files.
Marva/Texas/3rd - I get that sometimes too and I USE MSN.
AndyHS/CA - Sea - I would go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, and REmove the MSN from your computer.
Aussie - I am actually at home for report writing today so I guess I should go write some. Thanks for the advice I'll check the archives later
Marva/Texas/3rd - Kathy, once you click add to favorites, you get a menu that says: create in: and you click that, and it gives you the choice to make a new folder. Then you name your folder
Sea/2 - marva, how do you get rid of the miserable MSN search screen that won't work?
Kathy/5/IA - Thanks marva!
Sea/2 - andy, that won't remove my Internet Explorer stuff will it?
Marva/Texas/3rd - Sea, I don't know.. I just push cancel
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, if you don't get a pop up, just select the image and go to the file menu and save it as what you want
brooks - I don't know who gave me the address but I appreciate it.
Goose-2 - Sea/2 Hopefully their is an uninstall icon that you could find and click on to get rid of the problem.
AndyHS/CA - No - it will only remove the files for the Microsoft Network
Sea/2 - ok, andy and goose! i'll give it a go! thank you.
Kathy/5/IA - Do you think it is going to be way confusing for the teachers I train to be trained in a Mac lab, but most have PC. It was the only lab I could find to do my training. I'm part of the US West Technology Project and we have to train 10 teachers.
Linda/MS/WV - I have to go, too. Andy, did you get my e-mail? thanks for offering to send your User Policy. Bye!
Marva/Texas/3rd - Kathy you will mostly be training about the software, right?
Sea/2 - thanks goose-2...are you also "the" goose?
Kathy/5/IA - We have to train on Word Processing, email, and the internet.
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, there's not that many differences any more, it won't be that confusing
AndyHS/CA - Kathy, if they are just starting on computers, you want them on the SAME operating system that they will actually use. Its too hard for beginners to "generalize" what they learn.
Goose-2 - Sea/2....yes, I just logged in twice so I could answer questions faster.
Sea/2 - ummmm, i was just going to add that "goose" on the chatboards really does some fantastic things with his name!!!
AndyHS/CA - Linda - Got your email - will send tomorrow!
Hazel/FL - I have this wonderful program with book called ClarisWorkshop for Teachers
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, the first thing to teach them is how to use the HELP sections of any software
Sea/2 - thank, goose! understand now.
Marva/Texas/3rd - Kathy, if they have computers at home they should be okay.
Kathy/5/IA - A few are just starting out, but others have computer knowledge
fritz - Claris also has a web site with lessons
Kathleen back - hazel, it's easy to use?
Kathy/5/IA - What do you mean, Mary?
Sea/2 - i just got Claris at school, hazel...haven't had enough time to figure it out, though
Goose-2 - sea/2....thanks....during the winter I have more time to play around with 3-d programs...etc..
Hazel/FL - it's very simple
fritz - I am so THRILLED to learn about archives. thanks
Sea/2 - you are graphically literate, goose!!! LOL
Hazel/FL - I got it from www.visteched.com
Kathleen back - Claris Workshop for Teachers. Hazel likes it.
Kathy/5/IA - The Macs have Microsoft word or works on them - that would be the same as on a PC ...most have Gateways at home (since the plant is ONLY a few miles from here! :0)
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, if a person knows how to use the "help" menus , they will be able to find their way around the program
Gumbo/K/La - hazel------is it easy for kids to use independently?
Goose-2 - Sea/2....don't know about that....I just play around a lot..
AndyHS/CA - Brooks - Let us know when you get that first website up!
fritz - I have claris at home and at school which is great cause i can take files back and forth from p.c to mac
Goose-2 - Brooks....HOT DOG has some great web tools if you would like to try them while your at it.
Hazel/FL - No, this is for teachers, however they have ClarisWorkshop for students also
brooks - I will when I get it up and running.
fritz - my first graders use claris easily
Hazel/FL - This is a good self training tool for teachers, any level
Kathy/5/IA - Question 3...can things from the internet be saved on a disk?
Goose-2 - By Sea/2...I'll put a post for you on the chatboard.
Kathleen back - http://www.visteched.com for Clasis Workshop for Teachers, Claris Workshop book for students
Hazel/FL - I phoned them and when I mentioned I was on the tech committee at school they sent me one free.
AndyHS/CA - Kathy - anything you see can be saved. Some things, live Javascript, have to be saved through the source code.
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, yes if you are using the right version of a browser
Kathleen back - Hazel, good tactic!!
fritz - yes kathy.go to file, save as. send to h.drive, later copy to disk off line
Hazel/FL - But I am going to recommend that we buy at least 5 copies for school because teachers can train at their own level and time.
Kathy/5/IA - So how do you save through the source code and how do you know you are using the right version of a browser?
Kathleen back - So, hazel it paid them to send you the free one! everybody wins!
Hazel/FL - They walk you through projects step by step, adding different features all teh time
Goose-2 - Kathy....you can click on "view source" and find the source code that you are looking for.
fritz - Kathy...not sure...but can you find FILE on your screen?
Hazel/FL - Oh yes, we spend a big chunk of our tech money on training, for $129.00 we can buy 5 copies of book with CDRom
n2kids - Is there some kind of computer paper that you can iron on pictures from a digital camera to make a t-shirt?
Kathleen back - Hazel, is that just available for Claris?
Gumbo/K/La - hazel---what kind of projects?
AndyHS/CA - Kathy, all you need to do to save text is highlight, copy to your clipboard, and paste in a word processor. Pictures you save by right clicking and "save image as"
brooks - Adios All!
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, if in your file menu, you have an edit option, you can select to edit the page that you are viewing and then save it to disk, that way you'll have all the images, if you have your preferences or options set right
Kathy/5/IA - You mean FILE at the top, Fritz?
Kathleen back - n2, that sounds like a question for addie, who isn't here, but Mary, anyone know about transfres for digiatal pics onto fabric?
AndyHS/CA - n2kids - Yes. Go to a Staples or Office Depot,. They will have it.
Kathy/5/IA - I don't see edit under file.
okie/3 - Got a question about saving songs and gifs. Can anybody help?
fritz - Kathy...file, then "save frame as" do you have that?
n2kids - Andy, is the image pretty clearly?
Kathy/5/IA - Yes, Fritz!
fritz - great.just click on that and tell it where to save. i save on my claris, school folder
AndyHS/CA2 - n2kids - No, its definitely NOT a professional t-shirt.
Kathy/5/IA - Thanks fritz...I'll give that a try!
Kathy/5/IA - Question #4 :0) Can Paintbrush be used in a way that the drawing don't look like that of a Kindergartener?
okie/3 - I got my name figured out. But how do you put gifs and music? I'm slow tonight - been cleaning out the garage - sales tomorrow.
Goose/sci/TX - Okie if you were wanting to save a gif from the net, just place your mouse pointer on the gif and clik on your right mouse button. Then pick the option, "save as" on the menue that will pop up.
fritz - i save tons from online like that. ideas etc. then print them up when off line by going to my claris word processing program. Do you print e-mail that way?
AndyHS/CA2 - Kathy - Paintbrush is one of the worst things that Microsoft has ever produced.
okie/3 - Got that. then can I save to a folder that I have opened?
Goose/sci/TX - okie.....you can save midis (music) the same way. Place the mouse on the little box that comes up when there is a midi playing and click on the right mouse button...etc.
Kathy/5/IA - What's it's purpose...paintbrush. I don't use it, but one of the teachers I'm going to train wanted to know about it.
fritz - I'm moving from gr 1 to grade 3. any good software suggestions?
okie/3 - Kathy, are they really worth it???
Goose-2 - okie....yes, you can save it anywhere you like. I usually save mine on a temp file or on a floppy.
-{:o)Mary - fritz, I don't understand your question - I'm slow tonight
Kathy/5/IA - (NO, Okie! :0) I just hope it doesn't RAIN!
okie/3 - what is a temp file?
fritz - teacher...changing grades...
okie/3 - No change of rain here.
AndyHS/CA2 - Kathy - You can do art, geometric figures, fill colors, text. The teacher should just PLAY with it - its easy enough to figure out. But you need to better graphics program to do really cool stuff.
Hazel/FL - okie you can create your own temp file in Windows Explorer, then when you download, just save to it
-{:o)Mary - I mean the email question, fritz - the software question - Jump start is good
okie/3 - After you save something. Then what? How do you put them where you wanat them?
Kathy/5/IA - OK, Thanks Andy, I'll tell her that. What other kinds of graphic programs are there? Any suggestions if she asks?
Goose-2 - okie...temporary...a file that I use for things which aren't really important to me. I created a temp. file in my files
Goose/sci/TX - okie....that depends on where you want it....where do you want to put it?
AndyHS/CA2 - Okie - I just have a folder called "Download" and I save every download in there initially. That way I know where all my downloads will be.
fritz - is that a folder you name TEMP/
okie/3 - Is that sorta like a folder that I created called "clipart"?
Hazel/FL - the only problem is some online services have Download folders so be careful it goes to the right one
Goose-2 - fritz....yes
Hazel/FL - Yes okie, just like that
Susan/2nd/NY - I have so many folders on my desktop with folders in them...it is a mess...I have too much stuff...clutter...the story of my life!
AndyHS/CA2 - Kathy, I would suggest she go to a place like download.com and look up graphics or drawing programs. Don't buy until you try!
Kathy/5/IA - I really don't understand downloading. Are you walking Okie through that now? I wasn't paying attention. :0(
fritz - Mary...sometimes I save e-mail to print later to pass on to someone
okie/3 - I guess I need a course on cut and paste. I thought I knew how, but today I couldn't get it to work.
Susan/2nd/NY - I was just there and it looks fine...:-)))
Kathleen back - Someone, define the difference between download and upload
Hazel/FL - What program are you using okie?
Goose-2 - Kathy....well more like copying pictures and things off of the net, but you could call it downloading.
okie/3 - I tried to put an image on a post here and I couldn't do it.
okie/3 - Hazel - microsoft Internet explorer
Goose-2 - download is when a person loads something off of the net or another computer. Upload is when a person sends something to another computer....like an FTP (file transfer prtocol)
Hazel/FL - that happened to me the other day also
Kathy/5/IA - I tried to download a grading program once - but couldn't use it. I must of done something WRONG!
-{:o)Mary - fritz, it will be saved as simple text or txt unless you have selected to save it as something else, you can open it and print it any time, but you may want to delete a lot of the beginning stuff
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, after a download, you have to install before you can use it
AndyHS/CA2 - Kathy - Downloading is no more than clicking on a link for a downloadable program, and then deciding where to save it. After you download, you go to the program on your computer, click on it, and it will install the actual program that you expected to get.
Kathy/5/IA - How do you install it?
Hazel/FL - sometimes when I download text, it looks like binary code when I open it
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, find the file that has the EXE tag and double click on it
Susan/2nd/NY - Hazel...that is because it may have come from a mac...do you have a pc?
AndyHS/CA2 - Kathy - download to your desktop. Once you download, double click, and it will install itself!
Hazel/FL - yes, i do susan
Gumbo/K/La - hazel------that happens to me, too--loks like hieroglyphics.....
Susan/2nd/NY - I bought the BEST converter imaginable...it was expensive but it converts anything...even MAC discs on a PC
Hazel/FL - i never thought of that
Anon. - what is uploading?
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, do you have your view set up so that you can see your extension tags?
Kathy/5/IA - I don't know...how can I tell, Mary?
Hazel/FL - uploading is when you post something on the Net, like a lesson plan
Susan/2nd/NY - When people send you files....if they did not write the proper file extension, or if you don't have something to decode it...you are in for trouble...
Kathleen back - Someone please answer Anon..what is uplaoding? ;-) (Bob, no comments, please)
-{:o)Mary - Anon, uploading means sending files to another computer like a server
Hazel/FL - susan, is that a card or a program
Kathleen back - Thank yo Hazel :-)
AndyHS/CA2 - Anon - Uploading is when you send a file from your computer to another computer, usually a server where other people can access the file.
Susan/2nd/NY - My husband has helped me...he spent hours in the binary code "dumpster" figuring out jpgs
Susan/2nd/NY - Hazel..it is a program you can buy
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, do you see your files as a name.something?
Hazel/FL - how expensive is expensive??
Susan/2nd/NY - $100 but well worth it
Kathy/5/IA - You mean the files I have on my computer?
-{:o)Mary - like .doc, or .txt or .gif - do you see the dot and then the tag after the name of the file?
Kathleen back - Well, it's 10:30 pm ET, our experts are now off the "payroll" ;-)
Kathy/5/IA - I don't think they same name.something/
fritz - Has anyone used the apple e-mate laptops?
Susan/2nd/NY - It does everything...converts all kinds of files...zipped ones...everything
Goose-2 - I just finished uploading a gif to my service provider computer. Uploading is when a person sends a file to another computer. For example I just finished sending a gif to the computer where my web pages are stored. To do this I used and FTP program which is File Transfer Protocol.
AndyHS/CA2 - Susan - What is the name of the program?
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, yes, files on you computer or a floppy
Kathy/5/IA - No, they don't say .something
Goose-2 - did okie get all the his/her questions answered??
Susan/2nd/NY - It is called Conversions Plus
Susan/2nd/NY - Data Viz, Inc.
Hazel/FL - not actually the word "something", but .doc, or .exe
Kathleen back - Goose, I think okie is okay :-)
Susan/2nd/NY - phone 203 268-0030
Kathy/5/IA - no .doc or .exe that I can see
Susan/2nd/NY - It saved my life...you have no idea...I got files from Mac people...
Hazel/FL - no .anything???
Susan/2nd/NY - It can even figure out what kind of file it is if it lacks an extension...it is idiot proof....designed for me!!!
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, I'll post it on the main chatboard later, you should see the extensions so that you know what kind of file each is
fritz - Susan.this is like the burma shave bill boards(smile)
Hazel/FL - it would come in handy to do stuff from my Mac at school here on my PC
Kathy/5/IA - Thanks Mary!!!
Kathy/5/IA - I'm sure some of my teachers will ask about downloading - and I know nothing! What are you doing next week, Mary...want to come to Iowa??? :0)
Hazel/FL - does it work automatically or do you send files through it??
Susan/2nd/NY - absolutely....that is the beauty of it
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, it will help you to know, I don't know why the default is set to hide the extensions, it never made sense to me
-{:o)Mary - Kathy I'm teaching classes to kids grades 1 - 6 next week
Kathy/5/IA - Your post will tell me how to get the extensions to show? ( and undefault it)
Kathleen back - Well, thank you everyone, especially Mary, Goose and Andy!!!!
-{:o)Mary - Kathy, yes
Goose-2 - Kat....thanks for all of your time that you spend organizing things here. Also thanks to MaryK,Andy, and Bob....I'm headed to the chatboard a bit...see you guys later!
AndyHS/CA2 - Check is in the mail, Kat?
Kathleen back - anyone can stay and chat for as long as you wish..good night!!!
Kathleen back - Andy, with a big bonus!! ;-)
-{:o)Mary - Andy, RIGHT!
Kathy/5/IA - Actually my class is July 6,7, and 9! Free then? Ha
Kathleen back - Goose, good to have you back!
-{:o)Mary - Bye, Kat, see ya later
Kathleen back - Mary, you said you would volunteeer, so I sent your $$ to Andy ;-)
AndyHS/CA2 - Kathy - you need an "assignment." A simple program to find, download, and install. Once you do it once, you'll get the hang of it!
-{:o)Mary - Have we left anyone hanging without an answer?
-{:o)Mary - Kathleen, that's the way it always goes for me, I don't mind anymore
Kathy/5/IA - Give me an assignment, Andy! I'm afraid of viruses, too!
Kathleen back - bye!! for real this time..you guys are great.
Bob R/CA - thanks for all your help with this you guys, we'll have this archived on-site soon. :o)
-{:o)Mary - I'm going to take off also, I'll get to work on the things I said I'd put on the ChatBoard - if I can remember what they are
Kathy/5/IA - Thanks everyone for all your help!
AndyHS/CA2 - Kathy, go to www.download.com Look around, find a program you want. Follow the links until it says "Download" Click on the link, and let it download. Pick something small - less than 1 megabyte. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes to download. Then find it on your computer and double click.
Kathy/5/IA - When is this due??? Thanks Andy!!! :0)
AndyHS/CA2 - Kathy, post to the tech chatboard if you have any problems. Once you get the hang of it, your problem will be that you'll want to download everything!
Kathy/5/IA - Thanks, Good night!
