Ken - Bob, are you the creator of this chat room?
Bob Reap - No, Ken, we purchased it for just $20 from a chap named Mike Bagnieski
Ken - Bob, Cool
Bob Reap - Howdy folks :o)
karen/PA - Bob- you can't imagine how many people I've told about this site!
Bob Reap - Ken I haven't been able to track him down since, we want to get a second license for another site but his website is now missing, and nothing on Infoseek turns up
Bob Reap - Great, Karen, keep up the great work!
karen/PA - You too Bob!
Tony Bott - Greetings and salutations all. Thanks for coming by ;)
karen/PA - Thank you for this great site, Tony and Bob!
Bob Reap - welcome Leo, first time I've seen UAE in here :o)
Leo - United Arab Emirates,
Tony Bott - So... any questions, issues, desires, site suggestions, anything?
scottie/nc - hi Tony...yes thank you both for the site. How long ago did you take over?
Tony Bott - Take over? We created the site in February of 1996 (thereabouts)
Kathleen - Hi!
Kathleen - Hey, Leo!! you came al the way from UAE again?? :-)
Bob Reap - There she is!!! :o)
Kathleen - Hi, everyone!
scottie/nc - I love the teacher's chatroom. I'm totally addicted!
Kathleen - Yes, I thought I'd come to hear all about teachers.net! ;-)
Tony Bott - ... there was no take over involved ;)
Leo - Faithful to your site Kathleen. What to do?
Kathleen - Leo, I'm fine, what time is it thre?
Bob Reap - LOL Kat. You're next, don't make fun ;o)
Leo - It's 5 a.m. I'm an Aussie
Sheryl/k/MA - Bob and Tony or Tony and Bob- how did the summit in Washington go? Was it exciting?
Anne/K/FL - What's in the futur for Teachers.net
Kathleen - Leo, an Aussie?? in Australia?? you moved away fromUAE?
Dr. Doolittle - Kat...do we have a format? I have a question! (see my hand up uh,uh,uh!)
Bob Reap - The Summit was in LA - I'll let Tony synopsize that
karen/PA - Leo- did you get up early to visit with us?
scottie/nc - sorry Tony...I thought Bob said you bought this site from someone.
Kathleen - Go, ahead, Bob and Tony, take turns telling us about the future.
MLD/Pa/1 - Bob and Tony, this is absolutely my favorite site on the net!
Sheryl/k/MA - Man, I thought you got to travel to the White House!
Bob Reap - Thanks MLD :o)
Leo - No, Kathleen.Getting ready for my American coffee then jogging .
Kathleen - I thought with Bob and Tony here, they would take the lead, intro themselves, give site history, then take questions
Bob Reap - sounds fair Kat
Tony Bott - The White House Internet Summit was held in Los Angeles this year, and it was truly exciting. Teachers.Net was there to represent teachers and online communities. It was also a super networking opportunity for us. We have much planned potentially with the likes of NEA/AFT, NASA, Learning Co., and so forth... Bob?
Corinne - Have a question....what is Teachers.Net TV...I've been waiting months to hear what that is.
Bob Reap - Good question, corrine. While Tony types in an answer re the Summit, let me field that
Bob Reap - Teachers.Net TV was one of those leap before you look things that came out of Bob's mouth before Tony knew what was happening. I boasted that Teachers.Net would have a "Teachers.Net TV" this summer before I knew what it was. Now that some time has passed, and I've gone over it with Tony, we have a good idea what we will be doing for that...
valerie/NYr - and Bob what will you be doing with that..lol
Bob Reap - Teachers.Net TV will be a series of professional development videos that we'll be archiving and storing on our website and serving to teachers for free through RealVideo.
judy/wv - Bob or Tony,...Can someone take pictures at the retreat and scan them on here so those of us who can't make it can enjoy the fun from our homes???????
Bob Reap - We hope to be able to offer continuing education credits for viewing these films, in time
Sylvia/CA - Well, while they are answering questions... here's something I've been wondering... What can we do to get ONE or BOTH of them to Cherokee NC on July 8?????
Tony Bott - The White House Internet Summit was hosted in Los Angeles this year. I spoke in a session re: software barriers to the education market. We had tremendous support from y'all in coming up with over 60 responses to that question on the Chatboard in less than 24 hours...
Bob Reap - also, we hope to add a new section to our Lesson Plan Bank, the "Multimedia Lesson Bank" featuring how-to vidoe clips of lesson plans other teachers are using, in action
Anne/K/FL - Who will be starring in theses videos? Can I audition?
Jill - Tony and Bob - This site is SO great -- I can't imagine having the time to keep it up -- are you both teachers also? I haven't ever used the Web in my classroom; all the wiring is being installed this summer, so I'm trying to learn by doing before I tackle it with the kids. Is there a limit on amount written?
MLD/Pa/1 - Bob and Tony, I'm curious what prompted you to start Teacher.Net.
Bob Reap - Tony is a teacher, I'm ... not
Kathleen - Maybe some background info (bio) about each of you would help, Tony? Bob?
Tony Bott - We networked with NASA and major software companies, and are pursuing some partnerships as a result. We are excited for the potential to bring you more free resources...
Bob Reap - Thanks Kat-
Corinne - That sounds like fun! I would love to watch other teachers...you can learn so much.
Mary K&1 - Tony, did you come to any conclusions as to the barriers?
valerie/NYr - yes Bob but you are a teacher..you have taught so much....
judy/wv - Tony, Bob how about the pics??
Tony Bott - OK - I have a few on the plate here...
Ken - Tony - NASA from Goddard??
Tony Bott - I have taught elementary school for six years - currently working on doctorate at UCLA in Educational Leadership (on leave from class assignment) - and developing the site with Bob and Kathleen...
Gumbo/K/La - Dr-------bring your scanner with you to cherokee! ;-)
Kathleen - Bob and Tony, let's finish the questons you've started answering then give some bio info
Sylvia/CA - BOB!! You ARE a teacher!!! Just not credentialed to teach a group of under 18 students!! I've learned a tremendous amount of things from you!!!!!!!!!
Anne/K/FL - Do you have any grants that help you run Teachers.net?
Bob Reap - Ok, my name is Bob Reap, I graduated from PennState in '92 with degrees in advertising and psychology, then went to law school in San Diego and passed the CA bar, then did what one would naturlally expect with all that schooling, ignored it all and went into an entirely new career. I taught myself webpage programming and some Perl scripting, and the rest just kind of fell into place.
Kathleen - Anne asked if grants help run Teachers.Net, Bob?
scottie/nc - Bob...how did you get hooked up with doing teacher's.net?
Bob Reap - Teachers.Net is funded through contributions of the "principals" and some advertising revenues
Tony Bott - What prompted me to start Teachers.Net was watching Bob do wonders with Web pages on his site. He is truly incredible at this Internet gig. I wanted to get a site going that gave teachers a one-stop place on the Web to get information, resources, and network. Much has evolved on the site since Feb. 1996, largely due to the genius of Bob and Kathleen.
Melissa/NJ - Kathleen, what is your connection to these two guys?
Tony Bott - I am working on my bio....
Bob Reap - When I moved to CA, my first roommate was a teacher, and Tony was his bud, we became good friends and now Tony can't get rid of me. ;o)
Dr. Doolittle - Sylvia...I don't have one but Nelda is bringing a digital camera.
Kathleen - Melissa, pure love and devotion :-)
Barb E. 9/MI - Again, back to Sylvia's question. I'm about to go UPPER CASE letters here...
Bob Reap - Tony's too modest, except about Kathleen. She is a selfless hero, and every live meeting ever held on Teachers.Net is entirely due to her. :o)
scottie/nc - So glad you two got together. this is really a great place!
Jules/GA - I'm glad that you two met, Bob and Tony
Sylvia/CA - Hey Val!!!! I'm trying to get Bob or Tony to answer my question! !! Don't change the subject! (hee hee hee hee!)
Anne/K/FL - Kathleen are you the fairy godmother of Teachers. net or Tinkerbell?
Corinne - Kathleen, do you live on the east coast? How do you stay in touch...computer, no doubt.
Kathleen - Bob and Tony, why don't you take care of the queston about the NC gathering
Tony Bott - I am an elementary school teacher from San Diego. Now, a doctoral student at UCLA. Loved teaching, but Teachers.Net took over. Now, Bob can't get rid of me ;)
Kathleen - Anne, more like Dumbo ;-)
Kathleen - Corinne, telecommuting is a wonderful thing!
Bob Reap - Thanks, Scottie, A last part of the formula is YOU guys, without your feedback we'd still be just a chatboard and a mailing list.
Kathleen - Tony, many want to know if you can make it to the NC gathering
Corinne - Kathleen, do you know each other in person?
Kathleen - Corinne, yes, I live in Connecticut
Leo - Kathleen, do you need short stories supply for the Teachers Net?
Sheryl/k/MA - I love the mail link. My husband is jealous of all the mail!
Kathleen - Corinne, I have not been in anything but cyberspace with Tony and Bob
Kathleen - Leo,do you mean fiction?
Tallytchr - Bob...I had difficulty entering the Spot Survey...was it my 'puter or was there a problem this week?
Anne/K/FL - Tony and Bob what are your short term goals for Teachers.net?
Sylvia/CA - Tony!! You are just like my students! You forgot the question!! Tony or Bob... What can we do to get ONE or BOTH of you to Cherokee, NC on July 8????
Mary K&1 - Neither Tony nor Bob can go anywhere. Who will mind the store if they do? You know how we feel when the site goes down! It wouldn't be a happy scene!
Melissa/NJ - Kathleen, how did your first cyberspace meeting take place?
Leo - Yes, Kathleen.
Tony Bott - Oh, is that the question. Probably not. We don't have the funds for that right now. Truly, we'd love to go, but next year is probably much more realistic. However, we'd be happy to create an upload site for pictures - no problemo.
Bob Reap - I don't expect we'll have an inside rep from Teachers.Net at Cherokee, but it's not for not wanting to be there. This is a development year for Teachers.Net, and we need to stay close to headquarters and keep things running smoothly
Corinne - I had a feeling teachers.net started just about when I started to go online...maybe in March or April, 1996. Then, the chatboard only got 10 or 12 posts a day...but we got to know each other very well.
Bill T. 6/NC - Six more days until the BIG event, kathleen. Right you are there, Dr. (((Doolittle)))
karen/PA - Bob and/or Tony- do you have an estimate of how many people use the Teachers Net? Is there any way of knowing?
Sylvia/CA - MARY!!!! Don't give them an excuse!!! It's because of THEIR site that I have friends all over North America!!!!!!
Kathleen - Bob, someone asked Will we be posting pictures of the gathering at the site?
Dr. Doolittle - Judy...when we get back I will scan them to my web site and I can post a link at Teachers.net. Would that be OK Bob and Tony?
Bob Reap - However, now that we have KATHLEEN on board, we expect this time next year we'll have you all over to the Teachers.Net Institute in San Diego, Honolulu, or Myrtle Beach, whichever is closest for you ;o)
Bob Reap - I've asked Bill T to send along pictures from there as he can get them to us, and we'll be posting any we can get from him. Sylvia will be there, I'm sure she'll help keep him on task
Sea/2 - so true for us all, sylvia! we've become a global community on here!
judy/wv - Dr. Doolittle thanks sooooo much. I'll be looking forward to it.
Anne/K/FL - Tony and Bob what are your short term goals for Teachers.net?
Barb E. 9/MI - Why not scan from Cherokee if we can?
Dr. Doolittle - Barb...anyone plan to have a computer and scanner there?
Sheryl/k/MA - Closest? with Honolulu as an option?
Sea/2 - that's ok bill...just SEND PICTURES on here!
Bill T. 6/NC - I can support that, Barb!!! Feel like CNN news here!!!!
Bob Reap - Short term goals for Teachers.Net is making the system self-sustaining, and getting key personnel in place so we can begin growing in a serious and targeted fashion
judy/wv - I know I am not the only person who is unable to attend and would absolutely love to share in the adventure.
Sylvia/CA - Kathleen... I have DEFINITELY seen your influence here on T.Net!!!!
scottie/nc - where in Cherokee is this gathering and how many are going? I live in NC but didn't know about this!
judy/wv - Tony, are you planning on going back to the classroom anytime soon?
karen/PA - Bob/Tony- any idea of how many people use Teachers Net? Any way of knowing for sure?
Sylvia/CA - Dr. D... I'm taking my keyboard! Can't talk to the folks without a keyboard!!! !!!
Bob Reap - Tony, would you like to tell them about our plans for the Teachers.Net Institute?
Kathleen - Mary does alot of work..all of the transcripts in the archive for one thing
Barb E. 9/MI - Scottie, I think it's kind of all over Cherokee!
Peachy/K/NC - Scottie, please remind me of where you are in NC.
Sheryl/k/MA - I know the Early Childhood Mail link is very active! Are the other levels as well? I get such great ideas and have met such nice people.
Gumbo/K/La - I have a question--------is there anything that can be done about the whitouts in the chat rooms?? :-)
Bill T. 6/NC - July 8-11 in Cherokee, Scottie. We check the main chatboard for details under "other announcements." The whole itinerary is there.
Anne/K/FL - Bob how can we help Teachers. net to stay in the forefront?
Leo - Kathleen, still waiting your confirmation if you think the stories will be of any benifit to the Teachers Net.......
Kathleen - tony, Teachers.Net Institute?
Dr. Doolittle - OK...I'm going to ask my question and you guys can just answer it whenever. I would like to look into creating a Teachers.net web ring with educators web sites. Someone (I'm sorry I forget who) has a list of them and Pat (PeaceB2U) has offered to help. Can we use the Teachers.net name and logo?
Jeanna - Sheryl, The 5th grade mail ring has become every active in the last 2 days
Bob Reap - Whiteouts are not uncommon, it is a pretty busy little script, and that happens occasionally, but all will be fine when it goes in the archive
Barb E. 9/MI - Is there too much activity on here? Should some of us maybe just lurk?
SarahW/2/TX - LOL! I kept track today of my email for the second grade ring--74! Love'em!
Sea/2 - we'll probably blow out the entire Internet system tonight! LOL
scottie/nc - Thanks Bill....I'm in Laurinburg peachy...near the SC line.
Kathleen - Leo, I'm sorry. I didn't understand what kind of stories you are referring to.??
Bob Reap - Anne - good question. The best way to help Teachers.Net stay at the top is to VOLUNTEER to lead a meeting or build a resource for us. We are always interested in fresh blood. :o)
Tony Bott - I don't want to get into the Teachers.Net Institute right now - still too developmental... but I will get the goals, how we're supported, and what was your ? judy...
Sea/2 - Kathleen, have you heard of Tom Pickett in Canada? (Somehow I wound up on his mailring and he's full of great stories (similar to Chicken Soup for the Soul)...if you ever need more! Let me know!
Bob Reap - (we may someday go to an IRC based system, maybe Java, and then these problems will go away - plus you'll be able to get to the chat from the IRC instead of just a clunky web browser
Sea/2 - Why Bob! such honesty becomes you :)
Mary K&1 - Tony and or Bob, have you given any thought about writing a propsal for a grant of some kind to help keep this site afloat?
Leo - Stories suitable for children I guess,Kathleen.
Melissa/NJ - What do you mean by building a resource, how do you volunteer to lead a discussion, what topics are needed?
Kathleen - Leo, why not send your idea to me in e-mail, I'll be better able to respond that way. Thank you!
Bob Reap - Mary, I know nothing about grants. I am defintely planning on attending your grant writing workshop to learn more.
Tony Bott - Our short term goals are, now that the resource has a user base to support, to become financially stable. We'd like to further develop our banner advertising and Teachers.Net Catalog to help accomplish this goal. You can support this by visiting our vendors...
Mary K&1 - Melissa, talk to Kathleen, she can put you to work!
Kathy/5/IA - Mary, when is the grant writing workshop...is it here???
Kathleen - Melissa, many of our live sessions are led by people from our own 'community' who have a special interest, special area of knowledge, they volunteer to lead a disucssion..I put them onto the schedule
Tony Bott - Also, we have a short-term goal to pursue some strategic partnerships with groups like TURN (NEA/AFT), NASA, Theatrix Software, NSF, and a few others...
karen/PA - Bob or Tony- Do you have any idea how many people use Teachers Net? Is there any way that you keep track?
Leo - OK,Kathleen.I'll send an e-mail later.
Kathleen - judy, I don't think so, I think there are plenty of lurkers, too! :-)
SarahW/2/TX - did my part today--visited Amazon ;-0
Mary K&1 - Kathy, that's Kathleen's department, she'll let us know
Bob Reap - Judy, the room functions the same whether you "lurk" or sign in, the same demands on the system - don't worry, we've pushed it further before!
Melissa/NJ - Kathleen, I was told you could put me to work for the site. What can I do?
Sylvia/CA - I signed up for the mailrings and I haven't gotten ANY responses!! I'm volunteering for some kind of newsletter. I get occassional email newsletters from a few of the sites I've visited...
Jules/GA - Tony I'm in Ga we have a wonderful group called PAGE, check with them
Kathleen - Melissa, many of our live sessions are led by people from our own teachers.net community..you could lead a meeting
Kathy/5/IA - Sylvia - which mailring (grade level)? The fifth grade one just got a good start this week!
Ken - Kathy5, does the 'IA' mean you're from Iowa??
Anne/K/Fl - If we have suggestions how can we be instrumental in creating positive changes to enhance Teachers.net?
Leo - Kathleen, the Teachers Net needs some enhancement in ESL quizzes.Don't you think?
Sylvia/CA - Kathy, ya know... I've even forgotten what I signed up for!!
Bob Reap - Karen, that's a very good question - we have two servers (on one my site Counsel.Net - this server here in fact) and on the main server we have access logs that report over 100,000 "user sessions" every month. That means 100,000 people have visited under different "Dial-ups". that could mean they just called back under a different dial-up though. Probably between 30,000 and 75,000 people visit us each month
Kathleen - Thank you , Leo, I'll watch for the e-mail :-)
Tallytchr - I get lots of feed back from the chatboards...I depend on them!
Tony Bott - Now, how are we supported? Until a couple of months ago, Bob and I have shouldered a modest investment in server fees, and a rather extensive investment in time and energy. Kathleen has brought us some needed focus and development, and is helping us to generate advertising funds for further development. We don't want to charge our users anything, so we'd like vendors to shoulder the future development...
Melissa/NJ - That sounds a little scary, what is involved?
Jill - How does one join a mailring? (The 5th grade one in particular)
Kathy/5/IA - Yes, Ken - I'm from Iowa
Jeanna - Sylvia, Just send a mailring out, that's all it takes. The 5th grade is even setting up a list of everyone on it
Barb E. 9/MI - Tony, about the vendors...the majority seem to be for elementary ed. I teach secondary, so I haven't found many useful items to purchase. Sorry. 8-(
Kathleen - Leo, do you mean tests for Languages in the ESL board?
Bob Reap - Anne, if you're Mrs. Alphabet you've already helped take us a long way. Write to Kat@teachers.net(Kathleen Carpenter, our Director of Professional Development, with your ideas.
Leo - Exactly,Kathleen.
Kathleen - Melissa, e-mail me kat@teachers.net and I'll get back to you about meetings :-) thanks
Dr. Doolittle - Didn't see an indication if you saw my question...I'll try to make it shorter and try again. With the help of several others, I would like to create a web ring of educator's sites that frequent Teachers.net. Would it be possible to use the name and logo for the ring?
Kathy/5/IA - Jill - go to the gradeboard part - you can sign up for email rings there.
Tony Bott - Barb, we've just started. We plan to expand to cover all domains and levels. Watch us grow...
Bob Reap - BY THE WAY - if anyone is looking for some part-time work, we are looking for people to help with ad sales. Can be fun and lucrative.
karen/PA - Thanks Bob. So many people are being helped each day! Think about how much more we can give to our student's because of all the great ideas we receive on Teachers Net.
judy/wv - Bob, I remember many people who shared strategies they used to increase their test scores. Would it be posssible to set something up so that we teachers could get and share ideas/activities???
Jeanna - Kathleen, remind us how to subscribe to mailring. I forgot how I got on
Barb E. 9/MI - Tony, you know I will. I'm here for the duration.
Kathleen - Leo, perhaps you can post that message on the ESL chatboard.
Mary K&1 - If Tony answered my question, I missed. Did you come to any conclusions about the barriers to sofware vendors in school?
Bob Reap - Bill, look for Teachers.Net TV some time before the calendar summer is gone. That's my promise.
Melissa/NJ - Bob, what is involve with the ad sales job, can it be done from home?
Kathy/5/IA - Would we have to move to CA for the part time job, Bob?
Kathleen - Jeanna, if you go to the mailrings page, there is a sime 'form' to fill in to subxcribe
Tony Bott - ...as I said, we'd have to know more about your plan there. What is the idea, more specifically. I'm not sure I grasp it...
Bill T. 6/NC - Sounds good Bob!!!
Barb E. 9/MI - Bob, please elaborate about ad sales.
Bob Reap - That's a great idea Judy. We also desparately want to archive all of the gems that flow daily throguh our mailrings, you would not believe how wonderfully creative and brilliant you folks are!!!!!
Tony Bott - That's the plan, karen/PA - to provide you with a network of teachers - Teachers.Net is nothing without you all.
Leo - Also some methodology is needed,Kathleen.
Gumbo/K/La - yes we would, bob.......;-)
Bob Reap - Barb, ad sales are easier than you'd imagine. If you bring us a company that places an advertisement with us, you get a 30% commission. Avergae ad sale is $500.
Tony Bott - Ahh, Mary, yes we did, sort of....
Sylvia/CA - Would it be a problem if I accidently signed up 'again' to the mailrings??????
judy/wv - Yes, Bob I have seen many ideas that I wish I could store somewhere. (Remember I am technolodically challenged!) :)
Kathleen - Leo, the people who use the ESL?Language board are the experts in that area, share your thoughts there, I'm sure they would be appreciated :-)
Sheryl/k/MA - Thanks, Bob. We're taking a lot of hits in MA lately. We need the warm fuzzies.
Melissa/NJ - Is there an archive for the chatboards?
Dr. Doolittle - Tony... my site is involved in the Classroom Connection ring. Basically you click on a logo from one site and it takes you to the next site in the "ring". Eventually you go full circle. Someone (I'm sorry I forget who) has posted a list of educators pages. I would like to link them together using a Teachers.net Webring.
Bill T. 6/NC - They giving you a bad time up north, Sheryl??
Praline/3rd/LA - I have only been visiting the Teachers .net since around Jan. 98 And I can honestly say that I have learned more on this site than all the inservice offered in my parish all school year. .So I owe you all a big THANK YOU.
Sylvia/CA - Tony... the way I see it... T.NET needs US and WE need T.NET!! What a TEAM!!!! Perfect match!!!
Anne/K/Fl - Bob, I am working on bringing a big company to Teachers.net. Keep your fongers crossed!
Kathy/5/IA - So how would you go about getting sales for tnet?
Bob Reap - Judy, I still have all of the email from the mailrings, and am just waiting for some capital to invest in some storage space to serve them from. We are also seeking benefactors. ;o)
Melissa/NJ - Is that all their is to the ad job?
Sheryl/k/MA - Just election year jive. It's the pits!
karen/PA - Gotta go- Thanks guys! Keep on doing what you do so well.
Kathleen - Melissa, no ARchive at this point for the chatboard, but Carole Ware has and will save some threads (as she did with Looping and Accelerated Reader)
Leo - Isn't a good idea to show the pictures of the Teachers Net members Kathleen?
Bob Reap - Great, Anne, you can reach me toll-free anytime at 888-430-TEACH
Tony Bott - ...The panel I was on had the Sales Director for The Learning Company, and they took a hit for monopolizing the education/school markets... Los Angeles Office of Education confirmed that the big players have the advantage....
Lenore/1&2/MN - HI-I would just have to say thank you for this great communication tool. It cannot be said enough!
judy/wv - That's great Bob.
Bob Reap - (except now I'm in Orange Co CA, not San Diego - and tonight Tony takes me to the Viper Room in LA ;o)
Kathleen - Leo, no because my hair is a mess! *:-)
Sheryl/k/MA - Walmart is getting a lot of good attention from the Early Childhood ring. You should try to get them to sponsor.
Tony Bott - I turned the table and presented the small software vendors with an intro. to Teachers.Net - we level the playing field for vendors in many ways - -
Janet/AR - Hi Bob and Tony! You all do a wonderful job for the teachers!!! You are very much appreciated!!!
Lenore/1&2/MN - I live in a very rural part of MN and you have inspired me soooo many times. Keep up the great work!
Jane - I,too, would like to say thank you for the great professional development tool.
Leo - LOL.Kathleen!!!!!!
Kathleen - Sheryl, I am working on Walmart :-)
Bob Reap - You can see Bob at http://www.teachers.net/christmas/bob.jpg
Sylvia/CA - HEY, Bob!!! YOU shoulda told me!!! I just CAME back from OC JUST to be a part of this!!!!!!! So CLOSE and yet SO FAR!!!!!
Dr. Doolittle - Bob, Tony did you see the Webring details. I'm just having trouble keeping up tonight :(
Tony Bott - Thank you all for the support and warm feelings. We love doing this for teachers, and if we can make your day a bit easier, more relaxing, more interesting, or more anything... well you know.. ;)
Bob Reap - heheh Sylvia!! ;o)
Janet/AR - Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Tony and Bob for the wonderful service they provide teachers.
Kathleen - {ok,no pushing now as you all exit to see Bob's photo]
Jimmie/ESL/TX - LOL, Kathleen.
Peachy/K/NC - Nice picture, Bob. Does Tony have one, and Kat?
Janet/AR - LOL Kat!!
Bob Reap - (that's a "bad picture" of course ;o)
jo march - bob and tony how about something specific for new and upcoming teachers info advice etc.
Sylvia/CA - Okay! I'm heading on the freeways toward Fountain Valley!! Bob!!! Look for some nut driving around the city with a bag over her head!!!
Jeanna - Thank you Bob, Tony and Kathleen
Tony Bott - No picture of me yet... sorry. I will when Kathleen does ;)
Kathleen - Peachy, no way [speaking for myself]
Anne/K/Fl - We are all plugging away to bring more resources to the net! I am so thrilled at all the sites I have bookmarked from teachers bringing resources to the net. Thank you Tony and Bob for giving us this opportunity to gain more knowledge for ourselves and our students.
Bob Reap - Tony has one, but I'm not at liberty to release the URL <g>
Lenore/1&2/MN - I first discovered Teacher.net last Aug..you have come such a long way in such a short amount of time. So well organized. You have no idea what you are doing for America's students. I hope you are reaping some rewards yourself.!
Leo - I'd like to thank Bob Reap and Kathleen who dedicated herself to make this net work !!!
Kathleen - Jeanna, thank YOU ;-)
Mary K&1 - Is there a plan for a Teachers.Net regulars' photo album?
Bob Reap - Leo, you missed a crucial part of the equation - Tony, the founder :o)
Kathleen - tony's photo Htttp:////tony.playgirl.him I think ;-)
Tony Bott - I am focusing my doctoral studies on Teachers.Net, Lenore. This will make for a wonderful book next year.
Jimmie/ESL/TX - Lenore, I just started coming here in March. And it has grown so much since then!
Jean - I just joined the mailring. Loving it! What an idea!
Mary K&1 - Tony, is Teachers.Net part of your thesis?
Barb E. 9/MI - I hope not, Mary!
jo march - I want to know, bob and tony if there might be any spec. area for future and new teachers for advice, info. etc
Bob Reap - Jimmie, March is when I quit my full-time job (no parachute - what was I thinking!!!) and started full-time on this site.
Barb E. 9/MI - I mean about the photo album, Mary.
Sylvia/CA - Kat!! you're too funny! People only read playgirl.him for the articles!! NOT the pictures!!!
judy/wv - Mary, I love the photo album idea.
valerie/NYr - Bob's photo took 36 seconds to come into view..lol
Bob Reap - Judy, it popped up a new window, this one remained underneath
Peachy/K/NC - I do, too, Mary!
Lenore/1&2/MN - I only have 30 hours a month of "online ' time and I use 29.99 of it right here !
judy/wv - Kathleen LOL :)
Tony Bott - Jean, we plan to evolve the mailrings into a format similar to the Early Childhood group. Mailrings for the dailies, the chatboard for more permanent info and shared group "memory", and a weekly live session in the Conference Center... soon.
Anne/K/Fl - Thank you for giving us the opportunity to network with other teachers, share resources that we discovered on the net, and gain technical support for our own projects. Not only do we benefit, but the students in our classrooms.
Sheryl/k/MA - Jo, we have a lot of students and new teachers on our mail ring. Have you tried that?
Bob Reap - Val, it's slow good, huh?
Jimmie/ESL/TX - Bob, no parachute. Well, thanks for braving it for us! You're a good guy. :)
Bob Reap - (kidding ;o)
Ken - My first time here. Lots of energy and potential. I think it would be good to have a capability for groups to split off. That way, if someone had a prob to solve, they could work it up without those who aren't interested or whatever. There's a lot of stat
Kathleen - jo march, do you think new teacher advice can come through the existing chatboards?
Kathleen - Anne, the kids are really the main 'target', right?
Bob Reap - Thanks Jimmie, tell the boss-man to give me a raise ;o)
SarahW/2/TX - Tally your messages are coming up, even after you send, it may take several second for the screen to refresh itself so you post will show
Tony Bott - Mary K&1, Teachers.Net IS my thesis - actually, something like providing informal activity settings for professional growth and informal mentoring/networking among teachers.... you know ;)
Bob Reap - Hey, i like you folks, but my goal is to help the kids ;o)
Bob Reap - Tony, would you like to comment on your vision for the Teachers.Net Institute?
Anne/K/Fl - Yes, so many children are benefiting from new knowledge being brought to light!
judy/wv - Hey Bob how about a link to current research studies, articles, etc......????
Sheryl/k/MA - Jo, join the mail ring. You'll love it. Early childhood is very active.
Kathleen - Anne, that's the good news!
Tony Bott - My goal is to help you folks - TEACHERS! I know what you do for children everyday - Teachers.Net is here for you. (not that Bob and I compete on this one)
Jane - This net service is better than taking days off and going to workshops for professional development
jo march - I think this site is great , I found it 3 days ago and now check chatboards etc. daily
Bob Reap - Doc, go to the mailrings page at http://teachers.net/mailrings/
lj/6/OH - Tell me about the webring Val
Dr. Doolittle - Don't know Barb :(
Anne/K/Fl - How about a children's.net?
Bob Reap - Thanks Jane, we have a long way to go to reach our potential, but \i'm glad you see it
Lenore/1&2/MN - My Gosh! Look how full the room is! We need some food for this party. What is a teacher's meeting without food!
Sylvia/CA - Bob, tony and kat... We like you, too!! AND our goal is to help the kids, too! Like I said before... WHAT A TEAM!!! Perfect Match!!
Bob Reap - good idea Anne, check Internic for the domain
Leo - Bye Sheryl and all...
Bill T. 6/NC - Gotta dash y all. Dr. D and Barb, be seein you soon. Tony, Bob and kathleen, thanks oh so much for all you have done!!!
jo march - My only complaint, and as I said I am new, is that I see a lot of Elem. info. especially for reading writing , but my field is sec. english and haven't seen much on this subj.
Dr. Doolittle - Bob...it's different from a mailring. It would be all the educator's web sites linked together. There is a list of them already on Teachers.net somewhere. Can I use the logo to link them?
Kathy/5/IA - You'll be HOOKED in no time, Jo. I check this site SEVERAL times a day!
lj/6/OH - I like the idea of a childrens.net
Tony Bott - Jane, we plan to investigate partnerships with Universities to allow y'all to pick up professional development credits for participating in some of our sessions - watch for it...
SarahW/2/TX - Jane--and you don't have to plan for a sub!! LOL!
Anne/K/Fl - Lenore I brought M&M's
Barb E. 9/MI - Lenore, I hope you didn't read YENDOR's #1 item on his list yesterday or today
Kathleen - jo march, if you can think of ways for me to reach more secondary people and attract them here, drop an e-mail kat@teachers.net
judy/wv - Research link Bob?????? I'll be happy to provide some.
Barb E. 9/MI - Jo, I teach Language Arts 9. So does Evelyn/CA. Stick around. We'll find each other.
Lenore/1&2/MN - Barb, No, I didn't read it, but I just adore YENDOR-so i am sure I would approve.!
Bob Reap - I think Tony's ignoring my Teachers.Net Institute question, so allow me. We are envisioning a project called the Teachers.Net Institute, physically located in San Diego (initially, then others) and we will provide teacher training in intensive workshops to integrate technology and the Internet into the classroom.
jo march - thanks barb
Sylvia/CA - Jo march... I think if YOU post your HS concerns... and/or respond to other HS concerns, MORE HS people will keep returning!! Don't give up!!!!
Audrey - Hi, MEL. Are you behaving?
Bill T. 6/NC - Be talking to you all later!!!
Bob Reap - man, lost post, a long one too :o(]
Kathleen - Secondary people, I'd be happy to get more meetings of interest to your level, get in touch with your ideas and I'll work on them (even better, volunteer to lead a session)
Barb E. 9/MI - See ya in a coupla days, Bill!
jo march - sounds good sylvia
Bill T. 6/NC - You got that right, Barb!!!
Dr. Doolittle - Bob and Tony...when you get a chance (ha!) look at the ring that is already on my site and see if you would approve one for Teachers.net. http://www.geocities.com/enchantedforest/cottage/2674
Bob Reap - ok... Teachers.Net Institute is a project Tony and I envision, an institute located (initaially) in San Diego where we provide intensive workshops in integrating the Internet and technology into the classroom.
Kathy/5/IA - I like the childrens.net idea too - is there a way you could set up a safe room for different classes to chat during the school day? Maybe a conference room or something???
jo march - I've recieved some great info. advice from some chatboard responses already
Bob Reap - Doc, is that a webring?
Kathleen - Kathy, hosting classes for chat is something we are talking about
Dr. Doolittle - Yes Bob! A WEBring!
Bob Reap - oh, ok. One of my short term projects is to finally get a webring onto this site.
Kathy/5/IA - I'd love to do some online literature circles - Kat!
Tallytchr - I'm looking forward to Pat Cunningham..will it be in this room ?
Kathleen - Also, if you know of an Internet class for teachers, be sure the leader knows that our chatrooms can be used for their practice, and they can explore the whole site as a class activity...get the word out :-)
Dr. Doolittle - Jo...it's just mine, I just wanted Tony and Bob to see an example of what I was trying to explain.
Bob Reap - yes tally
Sheryl/k/MA - Audrey, I can't answer you back! Try going to the home page and look for mailrings.
Bob Reap - One of my short-term goals is to integrate a webring into teachers.net
Tony Bott - any more questions? I'll be checking out soon here...
Kathleen - Tally, yes Pat Cunningham will be be at 8 pm 9note that time) on Tuesday, July 14 8 pm 8 pm
Kathleen - bye, Audrey, thanks for coming!
Kathy/5/IA - Hey - Kat. I'm teaching a class next Mon. Tues and Thurs. Could we set something up in the conference room?
Sylvia/CA - Kathy... I've used this conference room for my students to chat with YENDOR and Randy/AK... It was great!! We've been sending things back and forth through snail mail too!
Tallytchr - Yes Mel...thought it was just me!
Mary K&1 - Tony, what's your Birthday?, You're not on the list
Kathleen - Kathy, yes, e-mail me :-)
SarahW/2/TX - Bob, tony and Kathleen--Thank you all so much for all your efforts on Teachers' behalf. This is just a wonderful site and I wish I could get more of my colleagues to come visit!
Dr. Doolittle - Bob! You are not hearing me! I can DO IT! Some people have offered to help! Can I use Teachers.net name and logo. As in Teachers.net Webring!?
Praline/3rd/LA - How long does it take to get a postcard on the postcard part of the net?
Bob Reap - Doc, write to me at feedback@teachers.net and we'll discuss it
Sylvia/CA - OH!! speaking of the birthday list... is it possible to have a sort of 'guestbook' birthday sign in for newcomers??
Dr. Doolittle - OK Bob! Will do!
Anne/K/FL - Grea idea Sylvia!
Bob Reap - Sylvia, write me with your proposal, I'll see what we can do
Barb E. 9/MI - Good idea, Sylvia. Many have joined since the original was created.
Kathleen - Sylvia, I think when people first come, they are not ready to give out that kind of personal info..they will later once they feel comfortable
Barb E. 9/MI - Kathleen, a bunch of people did today!
jo march - is mailring any thing like being posted about events or is it something more?
Tallytchr - Well...I know teachrnet has made a great impact on my teaching life!
Sylvia/CA - Also... Does the Teachers.Net logo here to the left lead to the T.NET home page?? I've sent lots of people to other parts of T.Net and it would be much easier to have a direct link to what they need...
Tallytchr - thank for all you guys do!!! It matters to all of us!
Tammy/MI - Hi all...Bob, Tony, and Kat I just wanted to say THANKS for a GREAT resource for teachers!
Sylvia/CA - Kat, even if people aren't ready at first, they can sign in when they are ready, if it's available to them...
Tony Bott - jo march, the mailrings on Teachers.Net are groups of like-minded teachers on a shared mailing list. Ideas are exchanged, links to websites, questions and support, etc.....
Bob Reap - Thanks Tammy! I just wanted to say that every day, every minute of every day, every second of every minute of every day, I say to myself "I LOVE MY JOB!!!"
Barb E. 9/MI - Sylvia, I think a Guestbook for newcomers and visitors is an EXCELLENT idea!
jo march - tony, so I could get liked with fellow eng. sec . teachers?
Praline/3rd/LA - I have enjoyed looking at all the postcards.
judy/wv - Okay, will do. Thanks for all your hard work. BTW attorneys around here make the big bucks!!!! :) low cost of living, just get ya pot lickin' hound and a truck and your all set!!! :)
Anne/K/FL - Good night, thank you for disclosing some of your future plans.
Bob Reap - I was planning on staying till 7:30 pacific
Kathleen - LOL! we have a guest book! linked from the homepage!
Jane - Bob, even when the systems get fouled up?
Sylvia/CA - BOB!!!!! I LOVE hearing it!! I say the same thing, too!! How LUCKY we ARE!!!
Tony Bott - jo march, you could join the high school mail list - but there isn't a specific english secondary list yet...
Barb E. 9/MI - We do, Kathleen?
Bob Reap - well, sometimes I have to take a break and walk away, but if it was perfect, everybody would do it for free, then I couldn't make ends meet ;o)
Mary K&1 - Bob, what sofware do you use for the site, or do you do straight html?
Barb E. 9/MI - I say that, too, Bob.
Kathleen - Anne, thank YOU!
Cindy/PA - Hi! Question. My friend who is on the ring has not got one of my e-mails. They come through but are blank. I have got them in mine. I have had response from others on ring. What could be her problem?
Sylvia/CA - Kat! I know we have a guest book.. I'm talking about a sign in for an on going birthday list!!
Barb E. 9/MI - I caught that, Kathleen. "wrap up"
jo march - tony , will mailring link me with other sec. eng. teachers?
judy/wv - Night all. thanks for all the hard work Tony, Kathleen and Bob.
MEL - Okay, Bob Reap, you seem to be with it tonight. On the adminstrators chatboard it was suggested that we meet in the conference room tonight. Since there is teacher chat some of us wanted a principals' chat too. Did anyone say anything about it earlier tonite?
Bob Reap - I use the following software: textpad (for editing HTML); CuteFTP (for ftp); Netscape 4.05, Eudora Pro 3.04, telnet, and photoshop.
Barb E. 9/MI - Jeesh, I guess I should go to the home page once in a while. I go straight to the ChatBoard. It's my home page.
Bob Reap - (and also GifConstruction set, but I really really prefer the Macintosh program Gif Builder by Yves Piquet - it roles!)
Kathy/5/IA - The chatboard is my home page also! :0)
Praline/3rd/LA - Same here Barb
Dr. Doolittle - Same here Barb!
Mary K&1 - Thanks, Bob
Bob Reap - (rules, rocks, whatever)
Tony Bott - Mel, we'd be glad to host weekly chat sessions for administrators - if you have a group that wants to meet. I didn't hear of one tonight, but we'd like to set it up for you..
Barb E. 9/MI - We got it, Bob. ;-)
Kathleen - MEL, e-mail me abut the Administrator's meeting..it's not tonight kat@teachers.net
Sylvia/CA - barb!! I do the same thing!! if it ain't on the chatboard, I may not know about it! (WELL, okay... a little exaggeration here!)
Dr. Doolittle - Well, just want to say thanks too for a wonderful site. I loved hosting my mom's sessions on rubrics and assessment. I will write up that proposal for a Webring and get it right off! Good night!
Tallytchr - Well..I'm not on Pacific time anymore..so nitey nite. Thanks Bob, Tony and Kathleen for all your work!
Kathleen - Tally, thank YOU!
MEL - Kathleen, is it next week? Maybe I have my weeks mixed up.
Bob Reap - Thanks doc :o)
valerie/NYr - I always went straight to the chatboard..just realized a few weeks ago that there was a homepage for teachers.net..lol
Praline/3rd/LA - It is amazing how the 3rd grade mailring is so informative. I LOVE it.
Kathleen - valNY the homepage is fun to watch, Bob keeps it vibrant!
Bob Reap - Those mailrings are incredibly active - I get literally thousands of e-mails a week from them
Jimmie/ESL/TX - Yeah, valerie, and some people that go to the chatroom don't know there's a chatboard.
Mary K&1 - Bob, do you know of any other net screeners like BESS who have TNet blocked? or any who don't
Bob Reap - Val, don't miss the main page, that's where we post the updates and coming attrcations
Kathleen - Jimmie has an important point..many people enter the site via the chatroom, so you can help by orienting them to the rest of the site
Barb E. 9/MI - Are you serious, Mary? Someone has T.Net blocked? Why on earth?
Kathleen - Hi, Jude, we're still talking about Teachers.Net!
Bob Reap - Mary, I don't know really anything about that - you'll have to get with Tony on that, he is consulting with several of these gateway companies
valerie/NYr - Bob I know that now and it is bookmarked....and we do send the newbies to the chatboard....
Barb E. 9/MI - Gateway owns a server which blocks T.Net?
Kathleen - Pass the word to new people about the homepage when you can, it's the key to the site :-)
Mary K&1 - I need some kind of canon to move them off their opinion!
Bob Reap - a gateway is a gate between the local network or machine and the Internet in general
~§Jude§~ - It would be great if there was a icon to send newbies to the homepage on the chatroom wallpaper?!
Barb E. 9/MI - Okay, computer literates. How do I change my home page to T.Net's home page? I forgot! duh
Bob Reap - (a filter system, they often block URLs of adult sites, or URLs that have the word "chat" in them, etc)
~§Jude§~ - It would be great if there was a icon to send newbies to the homepage on the chatroom wallpaper?!
Barb E. 9/MI - Whew, Bob, I thought you meant the company in Cowland
Tony Bott - Several of the filtering companies have approached us to talk about cross-linking, and in talks with CyberWatch, NetNanny, CyberSmart, and N2H2 (Bess), our content is worthy. But, many of these filtering services are just getting around to sites to list, like Teachers.Net, and the process is judicious...
Jimmie/ESL/TX - The most frustrating thing about this site is that I keep telling everyone in Irving about it, but I never see any of them here!!!! Aaaarrrrgggghhh! They have such good ideas have so much to share.
Kathleen - Bob is working on links from the chatroom to the rest of the site ;-)
Bob Reap - Barb - in Netscape 4.0, "Edit... Prefernces... General (or "navbigation")"
mayra - I'd like a chance to say thanks to Bob and Tony for this.
Bob Reap - Kathleen, they are already there, in the "chatrooms" button left frame
Bob Reap - (thanks Mayra :o)
Kathleen - Bob, I think the suggestion was for links to chatboards as well as homepage from the chatroom
Tony Bott - do you have a question or idea, Hazel?
Sylvia/CA - Jimmie!! I have the same frustration!! Even so... I don't give up!! I send them links to the chatboard or gradeboards always telling them I found it on www.teachers.net!!!!!!!!
Bob Reap - Kathleen, I actually had them there before, but I don't think too many people knew about it
Hazel/3/FL - actually, yes, this may have been convered tonight, but i was concerned at the confusion in the chat mtgs. like this, everyone just sending question after question, even archives are hard to read
Jimmie/ESL/TX - Me, too. When they have meetings announced on email or things like that, I run copies and pass out. I've passed out I don't know how many stickies with the url... But I keep passing them out.
jo march - well, I have to go thanks bob and tony for starting this, and to everyone else for making it what it is Your great!!
Jane - Bob,as a guestiment about how many people use the Tnets services?
Kathleen - Jimmie, good job!! :-)
Sue/3/okie - I have just a few minutes. Just by to say a big THANKS! I have learned so much here. This is the best place to be.
Kathleen - bye, jo march!
~§Jude§~ - amen thank you Bob and Tony
Hazel/3/FL - but other than that, i love teachers.net, especially the mailrings
Sylvia/CA - Jimmie, I also send email to the whole staff... each time I include a link for t.net...
mayra - OK, I don't want to sound too silly, but I've found the mailrings (EC & 1 grades) to be so helpful. I can't say enough about this place!
Bob Reap - Hazel, we had a few ideas about that, we considered presubmitting questions, and that probably will be the norm in future author chats
Tony Bott - we are experimenting with formats... one improvement may be to have questions pre-submitted, and responses posted to those questions to use as a starting point...
Praline/3rd/LA - As far as I am concerned this is the BEST site on the internet.
Tony Bott - Jane, we have well over 150,000 unique users each month, visiting about 2 million pages...
Kathleen - mayra, not silly at all!! :-)
Bob Reap - Jane, I'd guess we have 20 to 50,000 people a month, maybe more. No more than 150,000 though
Hazel/3/FL - i have been in chats where a host receives questions, then posts them in order after the speaker answers them one at a time
Sylvia/CA - Tony... I was going to make that very same suggestion about pre submitting questions and answers and then going from there!!!
Bob Reap - (Tony and i are talking different numbers, we're actually both right)
Tony Bott - we think alike, sylvia...
Kathleen - Hazel, that is what we're considering, so thank you for the feedback, :-)
Jimmie/ESL/TX - Kathleen, I gave the URL to a lady named Pat Hagerty who's assoc. proff at Univ. of Northern Colorado and a language learning consultant. She spoke at our literacy institute. She's great. She was very interested in the site.
Kathleen - Jimmie, that's great, keep spreading the good word about us!!
Tony Bott - True, Bob is speaking users, I meant user sessions....
Bob Reap - If Kat ran the world, this whole chat thing would be less confusing, I guranatee it. <g>
Hazel/3/FL - your welcome, i think you have heard my complaint before kat :)
Jane - When can we order T-shirts with Tnet on it?
Jimmie/ESL/TX - Sylvia, I'll have to do that with the email, too. We'll all have email and every classroom will have at least two computers hooked to the Net.
Kathleen - hear! hear!
Hazel/3/FL - t-shirts?? : ) oh yes!!
Tony Bott - someday, Jane. someday...
Praline/3rd/LA - I would love one Jane!!!
~§Jude§~ - are you guys using amazon for the book orders?
Bob Reap - Jane - great question! We would love to create T-Shirts, sweat shirs, and coffee mugs, but haven't been able to find the right company yet.
mayra - Jane has a good idea, how about putting the url in big letters on the back?
Tony Bott - How would y'all like for us to design the shirt? how bout coffee cups?
mayra - Jane has a good idea, how about putting the url in big letters on the back?
Mary K&1 - Why do you supposed so many people miss the opportunity to submitt pre questions? They come to the chats and wonder why they can't ask questions. How can this be corrected?
Kathy/5/IA - T-Shirts...there's a fund raiser for you guys!
Sylvia/CA - Tony, Bob, and Kat... You already know that I'm a 'die-hard' fan of T.Net... but lately I've especially appreciated the ARCHIVES!!! I haven't been able 'attend' many of the sessions, so the archive is just perfect for me!! Also like the specialized chat
Bob Reap - (I sure need a new coffee mug, this site runs on Java octane! ;o)
Praline/3rd/LA - I would buy a shirt.
Tony Bott - Jude, we use amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. Please though, if you use amazon, go in through our site - every little bit will help us out - thanks ;)
~§Jude§~ - Why don't yall have a designing contest? Offer it to schools...and classrooms? Maybe connect with your supporting companies for prizes and in turn add their logo too?
Hazel/3/FL - i would love to purchase a shirt, especially a sweatshirt
Praline/3rd/LA - Same here Sylvia..
Bob Reap - Mary, the problem is Bob is stretched to the limit and I can't get the presubmit page up for each event. It is quite tedious now, I need to revise the system to something simpler
Jimmie/ESL/TX - I have a T-shirt from Dave's ESL Cafe. A site very similar to this strictly for ESL. Very in depth and with lots of resources. I'd love a Tshirt!!! :)
mayra - Mary, i think we don't know how to presubmit questions. maybe that can be included (the info on how to do it) in the notices that go to mailrings.
Mary K&1 - Tony, Shirts and cups are great! I'd buy a couple of each. My cups have to have lids, though, I can't drink out of ones without! I dribble on my shirt!
Bob Reap - I like that Jude!!!
Kathy/5/IA - How do we go through T Net to get to Amazon and Barnes and Noble?
Kathleen - There's an idea..e-mail me about that idea, Jude!
Tony Bott - good input here folks, you're accessorizing nicely ;)
Sylvia/CA - LOVE the idea of T.Net selling T.shirts and Mugs!! Put me in for your FIRST order!!!! SERIOUS!!!!!!!!!!
Hazel/3/FL - maryK, is there a place to presubmit questions now?
Praline/3rd/LA - I want a T-shirt with th T-net logo with the apple.
~§Jude§~ - Bob, I have some "good" ideas for that, but this is prob not the place for details e-mail me if ya would like to hear em... mccabe@pobox.com
Kathleen - Kathy, click on the book icons on this site, or go through the catalog
Mary K&1 - Hazel, not now, but the times that it has been tried, it had problems.
Kathleen - Hazel, the Joe Bonsall meeting was the first time (only so far) that we tried pre-submitted questions
Bob Reap - Kathy, it's a bit "bumpy" now, but first go to amazon and find the "ISBN" number, then go to our Literature Board and enter the ISWBN into the box, and we get 15% of the order price :o)
Sylvia/CA - Praline! I'm with you!! I've always liked that logo!
Jane - But don't make the tshirt white.
Bob Reap - noted - thanks Jude :o)
Bob Reap - me too Praline!
Kathleen - kathy, note Bob's response below, too
~§Jude§~ - hey are you getting the 10% from Barnes and Noble...they offer it to non profits
Jimmie/ESL/TX - I thought you had some with Marjan, too, Kathleen.
Kathleen - ISBN #
Barb E. 9/MI - I'll take a shirt and a mug and a pin and...and...and
Kathy/5/IA - I agree Jane - I don't like white tee shirts either - I'm always spilling something!
Praline/3rd/LA - My husband is leary of giving credit card# on the internet.
Bob Reap - why not white Jane? You need a bib like m? <g>
Sylvia/CA - Jane!! Yes!! I can't wear white!! but.. they'd probably be cheaper!
Tony Bott - We're not a non-profit, Jude.
mayra - A question here, I am an Amazon customer. Is it better to order through Teachers. net to Amazon? Is there a percentage to Teachers. net? If there was, I'll do it!
Kathleen - Jimmie, yes, through his book's icon you go to Amazon and we get credit
Tony Bott - What color - if not white?
Praline/3rd/LA - Make them different colors...
Bob Reap - Praline, the net isn;t the problem. If the company is legitiamte, it is safer than ordering over the phone (if the site is "secure")
Tony Bott - yes, mayra. We get a small percentage. Please do.
Jane - YES! Blue, green, even with the little hunningbird
Kathleen - mayra, if you go to Amazon by clicking on a book icon here or by entering the ISBN # on the Lit board form, we get credit
~§Jude§~ - Praline I have literally ordered 2000 worth of books from Amazon...never a single problem. I also used my budget and bought about 6000 worth of stuff from that teacher supply place that advertises on Tnet...no problems there either
Barb E. 9/MI - I agree, Bob, especially after seeing Absolute Power!
Mary K&1 - Navy or white is my choice
Bob Reap - LOL Jane - i'd forgetten him
mayra - So do I have to re-register as an Amazon custumer? How does that go?
Praline/3rd/LA - I agree Bob ..Tell him that..But then maybe it is the amount I spend on books...Ha
Jimmie/ESL/TX - Light gray is good. I like blue and green, too. I like grey best. LOL
Hazel/3/FL - i think you should make them all colors
~§Jude§~ - and yes Bob, all future purchases made by me to Amazon will be done via Tnet...:)
Mary K&1 - NOT GRAY OR GREEN!!!
Bob Reap - JUDE!!!!! That order would have gone a LONG way for Teachers.Net!!! <g>
Sylvia/CA - BOB!! maybe you can put the info on how to get the T.Net credit in the CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS section
Kathleen - Rio Grande offers free shipping and a discount on orders of...is it $20??? check it out, it's a good deal. especially free shipping
Bob Reap - (heheheh! LOLLL!~)
Barb E. 9/MI - Good question, Mayra.
Hazel/3/FL - that way people could get their school colors, maybe even a polo type shirt with collar for those of us who have to wear uniforms
Tony Bott - Jude, who did you spend all of this money on?
~§Jude§~ - have you talked to them Tony...they may decide an ok since they offer a 10% discount for in store purchases to educators??
Kathleen - mayra, when you use the Amazon site, they lead you through the process. It's easy
Bob Reap - Mayra, the first time you order from Amazon, you need to fill out a profile of sorts. Thereafter you can order with "one click"
Jimmie/ESL/TX - We have uniforms. But on Fridays we can wear school colors/school Tshirt with jeans. So I could maybe wear the TNet shirt. :)
Barb E. 9/MI - But Kathleen and Bob, if I already have an account there, how can I get them to send you your percentage?
Bob Reap - Rio Grande Book Store has great products, and they sponsor Teachers.Net. Over 30,000 on-line products, and they take purchase orders - http://www.rgbc.com
Tony Bott - Jude, I haven't talked to amazon about that, i'll investigate. thanks.
mayra - My point is, Amazon already has my credit card number and all that. If I order through Teachers.net, do I have to re-register? Maybe I should ask them directly, what do you think?
Sylvia/CA - I think if we get too many colors choices orders are more easily mixed up... I say.. keep the T-shirt orders simple....
~§Jude§~ - I spent all the money on "educational books for me" Psychology, adoption, foster care, mental illness, behavior disorders....etc
Kathleen - Barb, we are credite automatically when people use the process we described
Jimmie/ESL/TX - Ask them mayra. Someone there should be able to tell you their policy.
Tony Bott - no you don't mayra.
~§Jude§~ - Yeah, Rio grande that is the other company i used....THEY ARE AWESOME!!!!!!! and they ship QUICK!!
Bob Reap - Barb, the percent comes from the first page you order it from - if you come from a link on our site, we get 15% of directly linked stuff, and 5% of stuff bought after you bounce around on their site
Kathleen - mayra, no you don't have to re-register at amazon
Barb E. 9/MI - Tony and Bob, have you ever had any contact with a company called "Homeroom"? They sell products geared more for individual teachers, but I imagine you could sell them on exposure alone!
valerie/NYr - well that T.net logo would look great on white or navy...lol
Bob Reap - Great, Jude, tell them you saw them on Teachers.Net! :o)
Kathleen - Barb, I've been in touch with Homeroom and many other teacher-oriented supply companies..will keep trying, I like Homeroom, too ;-)
Praline/3rd/LA - I agree Valerie.
Bob Reap - Barb, I've not heard of them. We'd be interested in speaking with them, if they are receptive to banner advertising on great teacher sites :o)
Kathleen - Hi, Marvin, we've been talking about the Teachers.Net site :-)
Jimmie/ESL/TX - White or navy is great at Schulze. or light blue or red
Barb E. 9/MI - Good, Kathleen. I could become one of their best customers.
Sylvia/CA - I don't know if this message came up.. so I'll do it again.. Maybe Bob can post directions (on CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS section)for ordering thru Amazon.com so that T.Net gets the percentage.
Barb E. 9/MI - Sylvia, you have so many kewl ideas!
Tony Bott - Folks, this has been fun. Perhaps we should do this more often. We sure appreciate the interaction and support you all offer.
Bob Reap - Great idea, Sylvia, stay on it with that Bob guy, he can slack off at times I've noticed
Mary K&1 - Why not Teachers.Net pins, then we could put them on everything we wear
Sylvia/CA - Question: Any more news on Richard Strain?
Bob Reap - Tony and I were thinking of doing this monthly, maybe call it "Office Hours"

Barb E. 9/MI - You go, Mary!
Jimmie/ESL/TX - Bob, Yippee!!!! And I was so frustrated tonight. First I had a friend call me for some advice, so I was late. Then I finally got here and my mom stops by. No one ever calls or stops by unless I want to come to a meeting here. LOL!!!
Kathy/5/IA - Well, I need to go - still need to plan more for my computer class next week. Thanks so much Bob, Tony, and Kathleen for a great resource for teachers! I've enjoyed hosting meetings here, and would love to continue to help out. I'll email you later, Kathleen.
