Hello everyone!
My name is Chloe and I am currently in my second year
teaching a lovely Year 1 class in an independent school in
the western suburbs of Sydney.
I am always looking for strategies to help improve the
reading skills of my students. At the moment we have a 40
minute session Monday through Thursday for guided reading.
We focus on a different strategy each day. Prediction,
making connections, comprehension, summarising and
evaluation are just a few of the activities we do each
week. Each strategy is first discussed and explicitly
taught through modelled reading.
I would love to introduce my students to some more
challenging and independent activities that they can use
during guided reading.
I would love to hear how other teachers challenge and
support their students during guided reading.
Thank you in advance,
Regards,
Chloe
