Posted by Lisa / Georgia on 10/06/08

For sale is my newest teacher-created literacy bag. This
hand-painted canvas bag is a treasure trove of fun,
educational activities based on the book A BAD CASE OF
STRIPES by David Shannon. Included are THIRTEEN activities
that cover the areas of reading, language, writing, math
and science. As always, activities are in full color,
PRINTED ON CARDSTOCK, LAMINATED in thick 3 mil. laminating
film AND CUT OUT for you. Even the lima beans are
    included! :o)

PRICE: $23.99 + $5.25 PRIOIRTY MAIL WITH DELIVERY
CONFIRMATION (Paypal, checks, RME, and money orders
accepted) Please email me if interested.

    INCLUDED:
    1. Large Hand-painted Canvas Bag

    2. Measuring the Stripes:
Measure each stripe using the lima beans. Record your
answer in the box at the end of each stripe.
    (dried lima beans are included)

    3. Bean Counters:
Match each bean card (with the beans colored in light and
dark green) with the addition problem card that matches the
problem. (ie: 3 dark green beans and 7 light green beans
would be matched to the 3+7=10 card.)

    4. Memory Match:
Play a memory match game by turning all the cards upside
down and taking turns turning over two cards until you find
the pairs that are decorated the same.

    5. Stripe Tally:
Put the colored popsicle sticks in a bag or box. Without
looking, pick one out. Mark a tally mark next to the color
you picked. Do this fourteen more times. When you have
finished, answer the questions at the bottom of the page.

    6. Vocabulary Cards:
Match together each word card with it's correct definition
    card.

    7. Beginning Letter Sounds:
Say the name of each picture. Write the beginning letter
sound you hear on the line.

    8. Growing Lima Beans
(A science experiment and lesson in observation and
    recording data):
This lima bean activity will help children develop science
skills including prediction, observation, and recording
while encouraging language development. The children will
plant the lima beans two different ways * in a cup with
soil and wrapped in paper in a plastic bag. (Dried lima
    beans are included.)

    9. Make a Pattern:
Use the paper person and create your own striped pattern.

    10. Math Mats:
Place the correct number of bean indicated on each math
    mat.

    11. Creative Writing:
Write about a time you were sick and what helped you feel
    better.

Follow the directions on the page to compose a short
    diamante poem just about you!

    13. Favorite Bean Graph:

Fill in the graph to show your answers.

    14. Discussion Questions:
Questions to help parents discuss the story with their
    child.

    15. Activity Letter:
