Call For Submissions

Teachers carry the weight of the future on their shoulders,
and their voices need to be heard. For that reason, I am
seeking short written contributions from a selection of
teachers in all 50 states. Selected contributions are to be
included in a book examining modern education from the
viewpoint of teachers across the country.
I hope you'll consider writing a piece for possible
inclusion in this project, to be titled LISTEN TO THE
TEACHER: EDUCATORS ACROSS THE US SPEAK OUT ON EDUCATION. Any
piece of writing between 300 and 1,000 words dealing with
any topic concerning modern education will be considered. A
strong voice, of course - one that jumps out at readers - is
important, and a fresh perspective on some aspect of
education will help a piece of writing stand out. Otherwise,
I'm suggesting no guidelines here because there are few
restrictions on what can be included in the book. I'm an
experienced teacher myself (high school English and Social
Studies), and could easily go off in a hundred directions
while writing a short piece addressing modern education. The
same is true of nearly every other teacher I know.
Going into some detail on one topic is probably better than
trying to cover too much ground. But, again, it's a
compelling voice and a fresh view that really draw readers
in - and when it comes to matters concerning education in
this day and age, believe me, there's a vast and eager audience.
For information about me, the editor of this project, you
can visit my website at www.stevenverrier.com. If you have
any questions, I can be contacted via the website or at
sverrier@hotmail.com.
Please be aware there are no plans at this time to
compensate contributors financially for pieces that are
selected. If you contribute a piece and it is selected, you
will be informed periodically as to the status of this
project until its completion, projected for early 2013.
If you would like to contribute a piece of writing between
300 and 1,000 words on any topic in some way concerning
modern education (including the life of a teacher), please
email it, by 11 October, with a brief (one- or at most
two-paragraph) bio (including your name, age, subject area,
years teaching, some information about your school, and
anything else of importance to your piece) to
sverrier@hotmail.com. Feel free, meanwhile, to pass along
information about this project if you know of another
educator who may wish to submit a piece for consideration.
Teachers have an enormous amount of responsibility - and an
enormous amount of insight. Please consider sharing some of
yours.
Thank you.
