Post: Coachial Studies...I mean Social Studies
Posted by Erin on 7/30/08
I was trying my best to find any information regarding the diregard of social studies. I finally found this article! And Amen to it! My husband recently graduated able and ready to teach social studies in the great state of Mississippi. He has perfect Praxis scores and glowing praise as a student teacher. He also has a military background. He was ready to spread his knowledge and his love of all history, but was met with, "If you can't coach, don't even bother coming by." He's now trying to get on at the local fire department because there is no hope. That's all I'm going to post because I may start getting a little angry at this "we'd rather have a 21 year old basketball coach who minored in history and has NO teaching experience over someone actually qualified to teach." Thank you Lamar County, Forrest County, Marion County, Covington County, Columbia, and Hattiesburg Public Schools!
