i think the point is... there are a lot of teachers around at the moment who are
not teachers by choice but are teachers because they didn't
get the jobs they wanted (post grad) and there has been a
demand for teachers. I'm talking about the teachers who
teach solely from textbooks and would be lost without them.
if you are teaching because you are genuinely someone who
wishes to educate the next generation, someone who
discusses things through with pupils and actually TEACHES
them rather than saying..."Page 90, copy it all in your
book and do the exercise" which in my opinion is not
teaching but just plain laziness and is to blame for poor
exam results and high drop out rates in further education.
The quote means (IMO)... If you teach chemistry, surely if you were any good at
chemistry you would be a chemist? or if you were any good
at maths you'd be a mathematician or an accountant or
something similar rather than just spouting the exact same
stuff you were taught 10/20/30 years ago, purely to keep
society's loop intact.
