Post: Writing for T-Net helps

Posted by Jan on 7/11/09

ASCD, which is the largest publisher (Educational
Leadership is their journal) of educational books, is a
good place to start. They sometimes look for writers, and
they look in places like T-net. I wrote some articles for
the Gazette here several years ago. An acquisition editor
from ASCD called me and asked if I'd be interested in
writing a book. ASCD had been interested in publishing a
book on classroom management and they thought I might like
to do it. I co-authored the book with the editor who called
me and another frequent poster here on Teachers. Net who I
knew and recommended. It was that easy. Our book was
published in 2003 and came out in the Chinese edition in
    2009.

They read manuscripts all the time. They give complete
details for submitting manuscripts both for books and for
journals. They are always looking for new things to publish
You aren't paid for the journal articles (Ed Leadership)
but you get a huge exposure through that journal and it
leads to other things. They are great to work with because
they market their books very aggressively and they have
them on display at every teacher's conference in the
country. You don't have to worry about getting out there
and selling them; you just have to WRITE them. We had a
great editor who was very helpful....it was all-in-all, a
    wonderful experience.

Give it a try; you have nothing to use. I believe you have
to submit an outline and 3 chapters...which isn't all that
bed. Check their website for information....ascd.org
