Post: Helping Children Cope After a Natural Disaster
Posted by VET on 6/26/08
Thank you for this article. It was needed because natural disasters do affect so many children in different ways. I was never in a natural disaster, but I do remember the 50's when we went through drills of what to do in case of a nuclear attack. As I recall, we were to hide under our desks and cover our heads. I will never forget how frightened I was the day I heard a shrill sound that I thought could mean that a nuke was incoming. Finally, I realized that the sound was coming from the shop building and it was audible because all the windows were wide open in both buildings. Thank you again for this article that could help teachers help their students cope better with natural disasters and their aftermaths.
