I, too have always heard beginning teachers given the advice to avoid the teacher's workroom, but I agree with the author that it can be a place of teamwork, support and collaboration. It all has to do with the atmosphere of the school. The lounge as a positive place (free from gossip and disrespectful comments about students or families) should be a goal to aspire to in all buildings.
