Post: Not every campus has relatable teachers
Posted by Broom Rider on 3/25/08
It would be nice if the Teacher's Lounge were a place where you could go for information, to vent, to get support, to ask questions, to make friends. In my experience this has not been the case. I eat in the lounge maybe once or twice a month. The remainder of my days are spent in my room reading a good book and having some much needed quiet time. I have also learned that some teachers don't appreciate it when others ask questions. Often snarky comments are made and then the person who asked the question is "tattled" upon. On more than one occasion this has happened to me. I was called into the office for "degrading students" because I asked how I can get a particular child to stay in his seat. I was more than frustrated and needed support from experienced teachers, but didn't get it. I was also called in for "gossiping" in the lounge. I hadn't eaten in the lounge in a year and the principal knew it. I feel like the lounge could be a wonderful place for everything the article stated, but so far at the two campuses I have worked on this is not the case. I am hoping that other teachers here who have positive experiences that I may reflect on and see the happier side of the lounge.
