This is an excellent article. It is a bit frightening
however to think of all the responsibilities we as teachers
have. I have been thinking about this lately, so it was
interesting to see the article this month. The longer I
teach, the more feedback I get from students long after
they leave our school. This is what made me realize that we
teach content, but it goes beyond that. If all we needed to
do was teach content, we could hand them a self paced book
and tell them to ask questions if they get "stuck".
The effective teacher knows that it is not just the content
he/she is teaching, but the life skills that continue long
after the facts are forgotten. Students need to
* learn how to think about and analyze information you read
and hear.
* learn personal responsibility
* see the world globally
* learn how to overcome obstacles
* be prepared for life's work whether it be a trade or
professional
* learn how to communicate intelligently
