Only a School. Only a Teacher.
School is still, at its heart, a dance of men and women of character. A school is its teachers.

Post: Candles... I love them...

Posted by EMA on 5/02/08

I enjoyed the Gazette article on Candles... it made me
think that I need to stop and post something positive and
uplifting that has recently occured in my dealings with
children... even though I don't exactly teach in the
traditional sense... I do get to work with children... the
children I see are either incarcerated in a juvenile
facility or are on probation... last week I went to test a
young person... I was told by several of the correction
officers that they doubted that the child would cooperate
and were generally negative... long story short... not
only did he cooperate, I finally got a bit of a smile and
when I told him to take care he told me to do the same...
this child was mostly non-verbal during the entire
evaluation... only when pressed would he give verbal
responses... "this little light of mine... I'm gonna make
it shine." It's what we put out into the universe that
determines what we get back... too bad those Correctional
Officers haven't been able to figure that out...
