Advocates for Young Students Protest National Education Standards

At a time when states across the country have been lowering their standards in an effort to avoid the severe penalties coming out of the nearly decade old No Child Left Behind legislation, a major new direction is underway. A panel of educators appointed by the nation’s governors and education commissioners has proposed a comprehensive set of standards to be used in the development of curriculum in mathematics and English for the country’s school children from kindergarten through high school.
