Wow!!!! If you haven’t seen this video about why some schools insist …
There is nothing quite so beguiling as just digging a hole in the ground. What mystery, inquiry, and engineering skills of all kinds are employed in simply digging a hole!
Most teachers would be glad to see the schools get rid of the few who
make a mockery of teaching. Few teachers would object to yearly
evaluations like I’ll suggest because they are clear, verifiable, have
a built in opportunity to improve or change, and are not based just on
one person’s evaluation, but on other criteria as well. It is complex,
but it is necessary to insure that good teachers are not punished and
ineffective ones are not allowed to continue to teach.
Get kids “fired up” about writing! “Every year my new students ask, ‘Are we going to do that candle thing?’”
